Great service a wonderful food! Try the sizzling rice soup. The dish is a tasty way to start your meal. This one of the cleanest restaurant I have ever eaten at. One of down rivers better places to eat.

All the food, my family ordered, was excellent. The ambiance was very nice. I also love how the restaurant was remodeled. I also felt welcomed when my mom and I walked in to order some food. The bathrooms were also upgraded. I remember Cathay House when I was a little girl. This was the first Chinese Food Restaurant I have ever gone to. I will never forget this wonderful experience that I have witnessed today

This place has been here since I was a little girl. I remember going here often and having fun meals. I stopped in and ordered take out. It came out HOT and FAST! The food was good but just standard Chinese take out. If you are looking for quick and good this is MUCH better than fast food. The meals are way more than one person can eat alone.

Wow what a difference!! This place has a whole new feel. The service was fast and knowledgeable. I like that all the food was made on site rather than, the norm of frozen and deep fried. I had the Woo Dipp Harr which consisted of Jumbo shrimp, bacon, onions and an excellent sauce. This came with fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup. The Egg drop suit was great, a little peppery which was different but good. This was a nice meal that someone with a big appetite would still be able to take home enough for a snack the next day. And the next day everything still tasted great.

I believe this to be your best choice of Chinese Cuisine within 100 miles! The remodel is wonderful! Prices are a little higher then the Rat infested establishments down the street but I prefer cleanliness and good quality food. The owner was nice enough to take me inside the kitchen to show off the newly designed and cleanliness of the kitchen. Keep in mind this was a Friday night 2 hours before shutdown and I was expecting to see a messy kitchen which wasn't the case! Bright lights and hospital like sanitation through out! And although there was about 10 different groups dining in and about 10 guests on the bar side the owner went the extra mile to fulfill my curious mind. Prior to dining I was reading some of the reviews and can say that they were far from the truth? I was taken back of some of the remarks of sickness from unsanitary equipment etc? Again this isn't your local dive and that they do not survive as a business by simply supplying flattened claimed to be chicken. Or pre-ordered breaded chicken for your popular dishes. This business appears to spend the extra money on quality "All White Meat Chicken" that is prepared in house daily! Portion wise you: you will definitely end up with reheated cuisine the next day or two. But again keep in mind you will not eat off this for an entire week. They do not give you (4) boxes carryout loading up with pre-mixed rice or your the typical dive fillers and or cheap vegetables! I have tried almost everything there is on the menu and can say that there is nothing I wouldn't recommend! My everyday order consists of General Tso Chicken, extra spicy, extra garlic. Which I am not sure if this dish normally comes with but I am a garlic fanatic! I usually order an extra dinner of Chicken Fried rice to change it up the next day and dump the left over G. TSO all over this the night before. The wife usually gets the Szechuan Chicken loaded with fresh vegetable, pea pods etc. I would definitely recommend if your liking for quality! Fine dining or casual: good for both your anniversary or to catch the favorite Football game), clean, classy!

Ordered takeout tonight from here. Phoned in my order got the sweet and sour chicken dinner with fried rice. I was told 15 min and the total was just under 10$. I ran in to grab my food and stood at the counter for a few min before someone came out and then told me it would be another 5. Okay no biggie.... got home and went to split the food between two and was bummed because there wasn't an egg roll (thought that would come with a 10$ dinner) my bad for assuming. The fried rice was very bland. The sweet and sour chicken was okay. There was no fortune cookie, I thought that was odd. Not impressed.

Hands Down the best Chinese food I have ever had! Very nice atmosphere. I never went there before the remodel but I really like it inside. Perfect place for a date! The staff is wonderful and the food is fresh and good it really makes a difference! Go there you won't be disappointed!

I have some friends who used to live in Lincoln park and came here all the time. They now live in Ohio and come when they can. They recommended the restaurant to me so I came and ordered carry out. I ordered the combination lo mein which has 3 meats instead of 1, shrimp, chicken and pork. It was ready very fast. There was lots of it and was loaded with meat. Delicious ! Definitely coming back :-) :-)

Cathay House just underwent a major remodeling, so if you haven't been there in the last two months, you need to try it in it's "reborn" state. It seems to have a younger, more "hip" presentation to it. Hopefully not too much so for the area, but we'll see. Three of us chose to dine in the Buddha Lounge to enjoy the ambiance (and the several large screens playing back Olympic events). We started with egg drop soup, which was importunately just NOT good. It had an odd taste to it, reminiscent of old gym socks. Not a good flavor by any means. It's egg drop soup. It's simple. Don't try to jazz it up. It works they way it is for a reason. We moved on to our egg rolls, which were fairly good. I'd call them average, but my cohorts in dining did not care for them. The duck/plum sauce was good, not to sticky, sickly sweet like many others. Next came the entree's. I went out on a limb from my normal almond chicken and shrimp with lobster sauce, and opted from something different. I ordered the Combination Chow Fu, which is wide, flat rice noodles prepared with white & green onion, beansprouts, pork, chicken, and shrimp. This dish was EXCELLENT!!!! I don't know how they did it, but it was infused with a flavor that made it taste like the whole dish was cooked over an open barbecue flame. It was one of the best dishes I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant My companions had General Tso's Chicken, and Sweet & Sour Chicken. The vote was that they both tasted the same, and neither was exceptional. I'd say give this place a try, if for nothing else to have the Chow Fu, with the disclaimer that this place is pricey compared to just about every other Chinese eatery in the area. Is it worth it, probably not I'm thinking... ...But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. :-)

Best Chinese food Downriver by far. They were closed for almost a year and in that time I tried several places and none came close to being close to satisfying, much less as good. Got to tour the kitchen and was surprised to see that the egg rolls are handmade and all of the meat is brought in and butchered fresh. If it's breaded then its done there. If you are there and its not too busy ask Lenny and I'm sure he'll show you around. The quality of the food is excellent as I said and the taste is also. You get what you pay for in my opinion and this place is worth the cost. The "American" favorites like Almond Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken are great but you can't go wrong with any of Szechuan dishes or my favorites the Cashew Chicken and Mongolian Beef with broccoli. Start all of that off with the Sizzling Rice Soup and an egg roll and I guarantee you will be taking something home. Just don't think you can go wrong.

The food was very good, just as I remember, maybe even better, but wow, the inside is completely different! Granted I hadn't been to the Cathay house since long before the renovation, but what a huge improvement! Very nice atmosphere and Very clean! We had great service too. My only complaint was that the prices were kind of high for Chinese food. Would highly recommend.
I honestly would give this restaurant a below one star but its not available. it took me over an hour to get a delivery that was incorrect. then when i tried to get it corrected took me another 45 minutes and five phone calls, one of witch I was hung up on, to get somebody to say they were maybe on their way. very disappointed as my family eats very cold food waiting for the other half of the family to be able to eat. I would not recommend this place to anybody. I spoke with the owner who told me he was very sorry to hear that I would no longer be a patron to his restaurant. Poor customer service. I might add that I live less then six blocks from this place.

I am sitting at the table writing this review, this place looks clean enough and so far the servers have been polite. The menu posted does not reflect the current prices and the egg drop soup is bland with a flavor that is slightly off. I would not recommend the soup. Let's see how the overpriced pepper chicken (same price as pepper steak) comes out. The soy sauce on the table is overly salty but the pot sticker is tasty. YIKES! The portion size is ridiculous! It came out on an appetizer size plate. Almost 9 dollars! I cannot say it's horrible but I won't order it again. Not a good value and subpar quality. What a bummer, it looks like such a nice place.

This place is still better than average (I have been going here since I was a kid) but sometime within the last year or so their prices have gone WAY up and I do not believe the food is good enough to justify $15-20/dinner. Panda Garden in Taylor is better for the value, as is Hong Kong Inn (great food, good prices and HUGE portions) and Mandarin Kitchen in Southgate. Also they do not offer any combos. What kind of Chinese place doesn't offer combos? I ALWAYS get combos because I always want more than one thing. I can't rate it worse because the food isn't bad, but I can't see myself going back at those prices.

Well where to start...the waitress was very snappy, the food was way over priced for what you got and I think that the cheap chinese across from the shady trailer park is way better that what I just got 10 minutes ago...oh and to top it all off I had a drunk employee ask if we needed a menu as we were heading out the door. However the mood of the place was good.

Known for their eggrolls as being the best around. Food is incredibly fresh and only the best of ingredients. There is a reason why this restaurant has been in business for 59 years!

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately surprised. The outside did NOT match the inside. Where the outwards appearance of the building screamed "DIVE" but inside, the vibe was anything but (read: expensive.) I wish I had gone with my gut reaction to walk out right then and there. Doing so would have saved me at least $50 off my bill, and I would have avoided the extreme gastric displeasure that was to follow. The front of the restaurant is open and luxurious. Clean, modern décor belays the botulism, ridiculous prices and poor service that besiege Cathay House. I had never been to or even heard of this establishment before, so I had no idea what to expect. With a little over two hours to kill before going to a movie down the street, my dining companions and I thought we were in the right place for some good, filling, and, judging from the hokey sign out front, CHEAP Chinese-American cuisine. Boy, were we ever wrong! However, we did not leave and instead our party took a seat in the back corner. There were only two other groups dinning, and I was happy for the quiet. My feelings of relaxation immediately dissipated after looking at the menu prices! $14.95 for a half-order of General Tzo chicken? Tà i guile (too expensive!) Again, I wanted to leave, but my dining companions convinced me to stay and we settled in by ordering a round of appetizers (crab rangoons and Buddha's Golden Bags.) The rangoons were pathetic, overfried and understuffed, but Buddha's Golden Bags were AMAZING! Deep fried shrimp breaded and dunked in deliciousness = the only good part of this dining experience. After a disproportionate amount of time, our waitress returned with three small plates, every single one of which was cracked. It is absolutely LUDACRIUS to me that an establishment would have the gall to charge $15+ per dish, only to serve then serve customers on broken flatware. Had this been a smaller, quainter family restaurant (without the big city price tags) I could have chalked it up to "coziness" but this was not the case. CATHAY HOUSE, your service is flat-out UNACCEPTABLE. I was dying to say something, but again, the other members of my dining party begged me to just go with the flow and not say anything. After waiting for another 40 minutes, our food came out, but by then, we had to get to our event, so we had to box everything and go immediately. None of the staff offered any explanation or consolation for our excessive wait time. Fortunately for me, my meal was cold when it reached the table, so heating it up later really did not make much of a difference. I really felt bad for my friend who spent $18 on a full order of shrimp in lobster sauce; needless to say, it did not travel well. Had the restaurant given us appropriate take-away containers this might not have been the case, but as they could not even manage to serve us on dishes that weren't cracked, I was not surprised they screwed the pooch on the carry-out as well. Everyone in our party ordered different dishes, and all of us were sick later that night, onwards into the next morning. I will say that, when she was around, our waitress was quite pleasant. She just was not around very much. Overall, a TERRIBLE experience. Not at all a good value for the price, food was mediocre, and service was basically nonexistent. Our meal ended up being $75 (not including the tip) and I have to say it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Seriously, you can probably do better by going to the Hong Kong take-out shanty down the street. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!
