Hellenic Coney Island moved to this location from their spot on Evergreen and Twelve Mile and in doing so they dropped the "Coney Island" part of the name in lieu of the more broad "Restaurant." But don't let the name change fool you, their coney's are still where it's at. Two coneys and a plate of their legendary fries are the gut busting special here and they are quite delicious. The dogs are sturdy and meaty and they've got a hearty beef flavor. Top them with their quality chili, a load of mustard and a heaping helping of onions and you've got yourself a meal! But don't just stop with the dogs, you gotta add their secret weapon--their fries. I don't know if this is on the menu or not (honestly when you know what you want you don't need to order) but they've got two kinds of fries here--their standard fry, and their special "old" fries made like they cooked em up at their last location. Not sure what they do differently but please--do yourselves a favor and get the old fry. These are delicious. A little under-salted for me (I like it salty!) but a few passes of the old shaker make them pretty much perfect. Great, friendly service (they'll definitely encourage you to up your coney order) and a comfy space with plenty of seating and large booths if you come in for lunch with a big group. I'll admit that while they're not the best coney's I've ever had in my life (the downtown joints take the cake for me) these definitely rank up there with some of the better dogs I've had. I honestly cannot comment on anything else on the menu because when you've got coneys and fries as tasty as these it's hard to deviate and try anything else.

I stumbled onto this place while looking for another restaurant and decided to pop in. It was bustling with activity, which is usually a good sign. I ended up waiting a long time at what I would have considered off-peak lunch time (after 1:00 p.m.). When I finally got the food, it was a real disappointment. The spinach pie was microwave city: two tough hockey pucks of spinach, pastry and a little feta cheese on the top. The Greek salad had an OK dressing but it wasn't good enough to hide ingredients decidedly not fresh. With a name like Hellenic Restaurant, you might think that there would be more than 5 - 7 dishes on a large menu that are Greek. Sometimes, though, expectations are not met. As a result, I expect that I won't be coming here again.

My ratings skew high so this 2 star should tell you something. They serve some sort of taco hot dog thing. I ordered the gyro pita and it was solid enough. The gyro greek salad looked promising. I'll order that next time and adjust my rating up if it delivers. Tangentially, I'm getting tired of tipping people in Detroit. Is it some sort of union thing that requires restaurants to have waiters? There is no reason for this place to have waiters. I subsequently raised this place to 3 stars after visiting the competition.

Hit or miss. Greek dressing is Delish, the salad not so much.

The girls at the office are always singing the praises of some other worldly concoction known as the Greek dressing at Hellenic. Being one of those workaholic, eat at your desk, type A ragers, I don't typically get out to lunch that often. However, I was forced to abandon the safety of my monitor's warm glow in order to meet a client this week. The place was packed on a Monday afternoon but we were seated in a booth near the counter very quickly by a friendly and upbeat waitress. This service continued throughout the meal. The lack of personality in the service industry grates on my last nerve these days and Hellenic was an incredibly welcomed breath of fresh air. I had the Greek pasta salad, companion had Gyro with the house cut French fries. Both came out within 10 minutes of ordering which is standard in the area given the populations of cubicle mice running around the multitude of high rises. My salad came to the table sans the liquid gold I came here for and I was (at first) dismayed. That is, until the server pointed to the HUGE squeeze bottle of it on the table! That's right, you can use AS MUCH AS YOU WANT!!! Oh and did it live up to its reputation. This is hands down the best Greek dressing I've ever tasted. It's everything you want in a good lettuce marinade-creamy, sweet and tart all at the same time. Hellenic's is heavy on the dill which is what elevates it in my book. The quality of the other ingredients was spot on. In particular, the pasta was perfectly al dente. I always eat off of the plates of my dining companions (and sometimes adjacent tables depending on the joint) and found the hand cut fries rather meh. In sum, Hellenic is a magnetic force that may just pull me from the dark confines of the office once a week.

Pretty good, solid place to go any time: breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mellow vibe, Greek and old standards as well as a few off-the-wall choices. Nice staff and great post-church. Delish club sandwich. Chicken and dumpling soup a little too thick, but otherwise it was pretty darn tasty!

I love this place. I always order the Gyro for myself with soup. I haven't tried a soup that I didn't love. My kids ask for their chicken and dumpling all the time. The Coney dogs are amazing and anything I have ordered for my husband has been great. Fast service, great wait staff. I would recomend this place to everyone.

I just don't care for the place. Minimal napkins and condiments. The coffee is horrid. The gyro omelet was skimpy on the gyro. I have had better. The wait staff does appear busy. I think I can find tastier options elsewhere?

First time here, it was delish! I had the saganki and Greek salad. Both were excellent! The Greek dressing was amazing!

One of my favorite things to do is go get our "God on" and have some breakfast with my gorgeous daughter on Sunday....However, this particular experience kinda smoked a purple wang. After church I was stoked to take my girl to Starlite coney over on Southfield but they were CLOSED on Sundays! Unngh!! Didn't see that coming....so we shot over to Hellenic instead. Once we came in, the staff didn't want to seat us but just assumed we were there for carryout....no big deal, we just dropped our butts in a (dirty ass-yet dressed with silver, etc.) booth on our own and perused the specials. (The fact that many bottles of homemade dressing were lined up on the counter for sale did not elude me....very good sign!!) The princess got a ham and egg sandwich which she wished she had sent back. I got the gyro omelet and was really disappointed. Her food came out and I just sat there and waited...and waited ...and waited. She was almost done when my barely cooked omelet came out. (can't you just tell me you forgot to put the order in?) I am addicted to Franks Red Hot and asked for a hit, they brought over a squeeze bottle of homemade (?) hot sauce and it actually was just fine. (I was scared it would be buffalo sauce or something else completely crazy but it was great.....just a little scary). We both subbed ("house cut") fries and they were OK (Our server gave us the choice of "in house FF or the frozen kind from a bag"), ...I was just kinda red-assed because mine were kinda cold...even though they came out with a late ass omelet....started to get pissed actually. The service was decent, mostly hit or miss. Bathroom was tight and grodie but have seen much worse.... it took a lot not to give one star.....wont be back.

I have been a Hellenic Coney lover for many years and this is the one place I stop whenever I am back in town. The menu is the same, the food is the same and the salad dressing is still the best I have ever had. So good that I always buy 3 bottles of it to bring back to Philly with me. My order is always a small greek salad and homemade fries, its ready in less than 5 minutes and cheap. I am jealous of everyone who gets to eat here regularly.
