The key word to describe the EagleMonk brew pub, I think, is "unpretentious". Humility being a monkly virtue and all, that goes well with half their theme. Not the eagle part though. Obviously, eagles are pretty much the second most pretentious birds after swans. No, third. Peacocks. Also, swans are jerks. Anyway, eagles are not jerks. And even if they do go around saying things like "I'm just over here being a fierce raptor with super-powered eyesight, did you hear they made me the national symbol of FREEDOM and COURAGE? Neat, right?", eagles are also apparently great at pizza. This is a nice, unpretentious place to kick back with some beer and pizza. The staff is great, really excited to talk about their brews. I liked one of the three varieties I tried, which is about average for me and beers. It was some sort of red, I think? Anyway, there was a good variety of styles, including some interesting seasonal ones that seem worth returning for when the seasons change. They also have craft soda! Homebrew root beer and orange pop. Listen, people with kids, if you want to get them started right in life, take them home their own growler of root beer. Please make society a better place by teaching your children the important things early. And the pizza is really, really good. Beer, and pizza. Pizza. And beer. How can you go wrong? You can't. I like this place. It's good.

Heading from West Michigan to East, we stopped here looking to try some beers and fill up a growler. The service was good, very friendly staff. I ordered a flight to help me decide which beer I would like to get a growler of. The flights are only available as all 9 of their beers. Usually I would be fine with this, but as we were in the middle of a 3 hour drive across the state, the option to just chose 4 or 5 would have been nice. As for the beer, the growlers were $12-howlers were $6, and I think 5 for the actual glass-pretty average price. Was not a huge fan of the beer, pretty lack luster in taste, but we did manage to find one good enough to take with us. Did not get a chance to try the food, but many of the people there had food and it appeared to be your typical pub style food- sandwiches, pizza, wraps and such.

First off, this place is a little off the beaten path and unless you are paying attention it is easy to drive right by it, although it is painted MSU green. That said, make a point to get to this place if you are in the area. Multiple beers on tap that they brew themselves and all we tried were fantastic. They also have a somewhat limited menu of homemade pizzas and other bar type food and both kinds of pizzas we had were fantastic. It draws both a young college crowd and older adults looking for a great beer and some wonderful food to enjoy while drinking it. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place for anyone.

Visiting from Portland Oregon. Beer was decent. Not my favorite but I am particular. Pizza was pretty good. Thin crust with good flavor. Looks like a dive bar from the outside bit that adds to its charm. The ceiling is covered by membership mugs (a Michigan phenomenon?) Small game room with a mini shuffle board and a foosball table. Great for kids.
