In terms of dive bars, Dagwood is 5-stars all the way. The burgers are greasy and delicious, the fries are crispy, and the beer on tap is cheap. It's exactly what you want from a place like this! Their menu appears to have a bunch of good items, but I always get the $5 burger, beer, & fries. This is unbeatable for the price.

Great local home grown local spot. Burgers are greasy and fries are great. The buns are of a buttery type and very tasty. Good people watching spot with ice cold beers, generous drinks and a nice meal.

Clearly a great dive bar just off campus in E. Lansing. Good for burgers and beer, along with French fries. I have been going here for more years than I care to admit. I knew the previous owner and would visit with him when I was in. Nice to see the new owner hasn't missed a beat nor messed up a good thing. Lots of parking outside the door and you can be on campus for events in minutes of the single digit kind. Dive right into this one and thank me later.

Authentic neighborhood tavern where locals come to sit at the bar and have a drink. Blue collar type bar where many of the patrons seem to know each other. Love the fried pickles! Best I have had! Other food is typical bar food. Cheap and delicious. Only complaint I have is there is only 1 server at any given time, so if it is busy, you may have a wait to get things. The good thing is that the server is ALWAYS running and doesn't ever look like she is ignoring you, she is just super busy. I would much rather wait for that reason than to see my server chatting it up with coworkers. Definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Great hole in the wall bar! The staff was everything you would hope to find at a "locals" place, which is friendly prompt service. Obviously they take great care of their customers because the bar was packed at 3:00 pm on a Thursday. The food is all about comfort and the beer was clear and well represented by NASCAR. $5 buys you a burger, fries, and a 12oz Bud... If that does not suit your fancy then this ain't yo place.

My family loves Dagwoods! It's a great neighborhood bar with a friendly atmosphere. A classic place to come for drinks and game watching but you are in for a treat if you are hungry! Nice menu with the best burger in town and fresh cut fries plus a lot more! Teri W

Super affordable prices on food. Fried pickles were tasty. Solid olive burger. Not a huge beer selection but three solid microbrews on tap, including Alaskan Amber. Prompt service, piping hot food. Regret not visiting sooner!

Dagwoods is a comfortable bar with a good crowd. Great prices on beer and food...they offer a surprisingly delicious veggie burger. The grilled cheese with the pickles is also yummy. Heck, the caesar salad isn't even bad. I'm not into the corny sky painted ceiling.. just weird and out of place. And the lady wait staff are kind of snooty and ruin the fun vibes of the place. Even with those cons, I still prefer this bar over many in the area because it has a home-feel and is a good hang out.

Great little bar - no frills: just back to bar basics. Great prices on food and drinks. Daily lunch specials are just under $5. We had deluxe burgers, fries and onion rings. With this little gem located about 2 miles from our house - we'll be back for sure. Watch out Art's, here comes Dagwood's!!

It's a nice older bar with a great owner (who I have had the pleasure of meeting outside of her establishment). The late afternoon/early evening patrons were middle aged to elderly. My server was cold but courteous meaning she was doing her job but wasn't friendly. I asked for the wifi code login and she said it inaudibly and walked away. If a business has a wifi, I always like to log onto it. I couldn't at Dagwoods and I have an iPhone. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and 2 beers. The food was great minus two things. I love onions but the onion slice was the exact diameter and thickness of the beef patty. That was a little overwhelming. Second, the fries were half crispy, half soggy. It seemed like they should be cooked in smaller batches. It's a nice place with a good energy. I may go back because I love the owner. The price was good and extremely fair for what I received. I simply wish the service was a little friendlier, the fries crispier, and I know to not order a burger with onion because they're a little over the top with it. Nice place though just not my favorite.

Decent food with good burgers that have all the fixings, local music all the time, and thanks to the smoking ban you can actually see from one end to the other now! Place used to be a smoke pit. Anyway, I've walked out due to negligent service twice. Really this place is just about cheap beer and/or local music. I wouldn't recommend it if you just want food

A place with true history. This was the place where my grandfather used to go after he was done with school. Great friendly crowd, competent folks behind the bar, awesome burgers/sweet potato tots, and reasonably priced beer. Terrific place.

This place is awesome. Great prices, solid/traditional bar food, fun atmosphere if you're looking to throw back a few drinks. We usually order pitchers of Two Hearted ($8 - what a deal!) and burgers/fries. The fries are great and taste like they're actually made out of a real potato. Beware though, I ordered the olive burger one time and it was not at all what I expected. I thought the olive sauce would be something like a tapenade, but it was basically mayo with sliced up olives in there. I'd stick with bacon or cheese. Fried pickle spears are also delicious.

Love this bar, have been in several times, good food, good price, cold beer Went in the other night on our way through town... I am one of those people that cannot sit for very long so often times I like to just stand at the bar. Welllll my chair was in my way not to mention the waitress kept bumping into it. We noticed a spare chair sitting in front of the juke box so we moved the bar stool over there to be polite. The supposed owner (white trashy type scank) rushes over and places it back behind me and dodges back to her seat! What a weirdo! Too bad cause we really were starting to like it there. Then so older women goes behind the bar (must be scank girls sister) and proceeds to describe some fight she was in and got her eyes dug into? Wow!?! Whats up with that?

Awesome dive bar! Homey and fun. The beers were cheap & cold, the friend pickles were very good, and the burger was actually great! They served the burger just in paper, no fries or basket. Pretty old school but it was cool. I could definitely hang here for a casual night anytime!

Love Dagwoods. Good bar food at reasonable prices. As one of my friends once said, no matter how much you order the tab never seems to come to more than 30 bucks (and we usually go with 3-4 people, with drinks!). I like the burgers and fries, brownie bites, and deep fried pickles. The fried chicken sandwich is also pretty awesome. I like going on Tuesday nights for folk open mic night.

Dagwoods is excellent. I love going down whether it is for a beer, dinner, hanging out with some friends, or just some good old fashion 'watching the game'. Their drink prices are about as cheap as they get, and the food for being a bar, is excellent. As everyone is saying, you can't really go wrong with the friend pickles. I thoroughly enjoy their reuben too. The best part about dagwoods is the atmosphere and being able to relax with some close friends. I see a lot of college age couples in there on dates, and as much of a dive as it is, it is a great place for a date. I docked it a star because of the service. The service is **generally** pretty good, but once in a while it can be nasty. The crappy service has been from the same waitress consistently, who seems to always be in a bad mood when I go in there. I'm not sure why, as the first time I went in there and had her, she was already in a really bad mood. I left a 5 dollar tip on a 10 dollar tab to try and add some happiness, but the next couple times with her I still got her same poor attitude. Lately, I just sit at the bar if she is working. Other than the minor annoyance of single rude waitress, this place is awesome. Don't let this little annoyance stop you from going, however. It is a great place.
(4)
Jeffrey C.
Dagwood's will either give you the creeps or make you feel right at home. It is the classic definition of a dive and on some nights that is just what you need. Don't expect great food, the music will probably be around average quality and the service will be hit or miss but at the end of the day the drinks are still dirt cheap. You can't go wrong.
(3)
Lisa S.
Chill bar, great place to go with a group - you can grab a booth and get a good bite to eat. Also, Dagwood's karaoke (Monday? Tuesday? cant remember...) is pretty much legendary if you want to give your vocal cords some exercise. Always a good crowd at D'woods.
(4)
Kate S.
I love this salty neighborhood dive of a bar. Drink specials, tasty food, jukebox, and always interesting people to chat with. It won't be the same when it's forced to go smoke-free, so make a trip soon! You have to get the fried pickles!!
(4)
Jessica H.
Dagwood's is really an oasis to someone who is sick of the East Lansing bar scene. My friend and I went here for a drink one night, and it was so relaxed. We could have a conversation instead of yelling over a crappy techno beat. It's just so relaxed. The waitstaff is great, and the drinks are priced right. The food is really good, too. I had fried pickles, and while I'm not sure how I feel about fried pickles in general, I'm sure the ones at Dagwood's are first class. I love going here, and I would recommend this place to anyone.

I know I'm always mentioning atmosphere and all...this place is just another smoke filled bar. BUT, I love this place. The waitstaff will know you after a couple visits, the drinks are SOO cheap and the food is the BEST bar food ever. Anything they offer fried, its delicious. The fried pickles are awesome. The burgers are the best, wrapped in paper (to hold the grease in?) and the fries are better than any I've had. I can say I've eaten there sober, so its not just the alcohol talking. The drinks are so cheap, they have cheap pitchers and some nights you can truly get smashed for less than $20 (thats really smashed)! I have so many fond memories of this place, atleast the ones I remember. lol

My girlfriend took me here after a very long day. It was cold outside, but very warm in here, except for the bathrooms, which are arctic. Makes you want to do your business and get back to drinking. Anyway, she was raving about the fried olives, but I felt a little let down after the big hype. They were black olives stuffed with some kind of cheese sause...not very good. I regretted not going for the fried pickles. My girl said those were good, too, but they were spears as opposed to chips...love the fried pickle chips. And she said they had changed the sauce in the olives and that they were better before. Probably better after a lot more beer. Unfortunately still had to make the return trip to Chicago that night, so couldn't partake in the adult beverages too much. The burger was lots better. Liked this establishment very much as the stars indicate. It's a very friendly place, a little bit divey, but seemed like a really nice place to spend an afternoon watching a game, or spending a night with good friends gettin a little drink on.

burgers, fried food, cheap beers, and a diverse/interesting crowd -- i think that satisfies all our major requirements. this place is NOT a classy joint, but if youre looking for a great dive bar dagwoods is it! awesome burger, fries, and beer special for like $5 is one of the best things in my life. there are always specials -- olive burgers, cans of old style, and dont forget the fried pickles (snookies fav!) this is a great escape from the EL undergrad scene and the downtown lansing cooley fest. full of REAL lansing people -- youll find sketchy old guys at the bar, professors enjoying a beer, and restaurant staff just getting off their shifts -- makes for an interesting and awesome atmosphere. people are friendly and the staff is delightful (albeit overwhelmed at times). we used to frequent this place after softball or basketball games, but now that michigan is smoke free we can go when we arent sweaty and disgusting : )

Ick. Now, don't get me wrong. I really like dive bars with cheap, greasy food. They hold a special place in my heart. But, I went there for lunch with a friend and my brother and we were in agreement: this food sucks! I ordered fish and chips and the fish was so tough that I could not bite it or pull it apart. The fries were hand-cut, but they were not cooked right (you gotta cook them twice!), leaving them very greasy and undercooked. I would have complained, but the service was terrible. The server dropped the food off and then rushed back to the kitchen, where she stood, in full view of every customer, texting and chatting with the other server. The beer was good and we could have just eaten the greasy fries, killed 2 more pitchers and caught a buzz....but the server never came back. Not once. I got up, asked for the check, and paid and left. Nice folks there, though. The cole slaw was OK.

It's a good hometown bar. You can watch the game, drink a beer, and munch on some bar food. They're well-known locally for their potatoes served in the french manner, which are fried in lard, by the way. On Sundays, they have $1 cans of Old Style, can't beat that.
