Met a friend for a "Late Lunch". I wanted the chicken with pasta & tomato, but it isn't on the lunch menu. I ordered the Fish & Chips. As I'm allergic to bell peppers, I asked if the Cole Slaw that came with the meal had them in it. Rather than go check - she did offer me a substitute. Three HUGE pieces of fish, battered & deep fried, fries & broccoli --- it was really GOOD & had to get a "Doggie Bag'' as I couldn't finish it all. I would have given a 5 star IF the waitress had gone to see if the Slaw had bell pepper in it --- would have liked the meal much better if I could have had it.

Applebee's is a hit or miss restaurant. But, I will say the South Cedar location is consistently above par with the others I've been to. I dined here yesterday with my mother and 6 year old daughter and all 3 of us were happy with our food. We ordered chips and salsa to start and when a manager came by to ask how we were doing, she noticed we were running low on chips and was quick to circle back around with more. Our server was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. My only (slight) gripe is that I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out well done, BUT I ordered the steak that comes with a hot cast iron under it, soo in retrospect, I should have ordered it rare since its a no brainer that the heat is going to keep cooking it. Not really their fault and it was probably one of the only good tasting well done steaks I've ever had. All in all, it was a great experience.

In the bleak wasteland that is South Lansing/Holt dining, I've been to this Applebee's a few times. The wait staff is usually friendly and food is prepared rather quickly. I do blame this place on one terrible bout of food poisoning a few years ago and I only go back when people make me. Overall, it's an OK chain restaurant in a place where OK is practically the best you can hope for.

I'm not ashamed to say that I like Applebee's. The food is decent, the service is good (at least at this one), and it's kid-friendly. We don't generally get a lot of evenings away from the tiny dictator, so when we go out to eat, it's usually to a place that has high chairs and a high tolerance for the occasional toddler screech. (Not that we let him scream unabated, but you know, sometimes they surprise you!) We've always had good experiences at this Applebee's. We're usually seated quickly, the waitstaff is friendly and capable, and the food is prepared well and quickly. It's not Dusty's, but it's just fine when you don't want to cook (or drop $100+).

Applebee's food is Applebee's food. So, what generally makes or breaks the place is the staff and the guests. I had a good experience at this Applebees. The staff was friendly and open, suggesting several other sports bars, clubs, and resturants that I might like to check out since I am new to the area. What can I say, they have earned my respect and repeat business.
