Texas Corral is a solid, relatively inexpensive steakhouse. Unlimited hot rolls with cinnamon butter await you at your table. Buckets of peanuts are available throughout the restaurant. Just leave your shells on the floor. During my last visit, I ordered the NY strip steak. It was prepared well, but the meat was fairly fatty. Steak fries were awesome. All of these factors line up for a 4-star review. But on this visit, service was pretty terrible. No fewer than four people stopped by our table, so our service was hodge-podge at best. One guy would ask how we were doing, we'd tell him we'd like more rolls and someone else would bring them to our table. The guy who took our order would show up to ask if we needed anything, and we'd tell him we told one of his coworkers was already on the case. If I were tipping my actual server, I would have tipped low. But I hope that tip got split among the other folks who stepped up when our server was off in la-la land. Still, the food and price are worth stopping in. Hopefully we were just visiting on a particularly chaotic night.

I travel to Kalamazoo at least once a year, for the last three years this has been the closest restaurant to the hotel I've stayed at and being with in walking distance, it was always one of the places our group would go to for drinks at the end of the night. The service here has been fantastic. In fact this last year the waitress we had was the same one we've had for the last three years! She even remembered us! The other wait staff we had were equally good. The food here, is your standard food in these types of restaurants. Not bad for the price, but nothing really to write home about. Although the ribs they had were pretty dang good. A little heavy on the sauce for my taste, but not bad at all. Just as a side note, they give you free peanuts just like a lot of other steak houses.

I used to love to go here with my family, but I'm not sure that I will continue to visit this restaurant. My family met here for dinner during the Labor Day weekend. I had a coupon for buy two, get one meal free. Before we ordered, we asked the waitress if it was good with the all-you-can-eat ribs, and she told us that it was. Two of us ordered the ribs. They were very tasty! However, when she brought out the bill, she told us the coupon was NOT valid with the ribs! We would never have ordered them if we'd known that. The manager was summoned after the same waitress "forgot" to also take the $15 cash off the bill before she charged my credit card the full amount! He fixed the credit charge, but all he would do otherwise was extend the expiration date on the coupon another week, so we would have to come back fairly quickly and spend MORE money there! I can't afford to eat out much more than once per paycheck with my family, and I get paid every 2 weeks. I also participated in their motorcycle ride for the burn camp a month ago. Their advertising stated the entry fee got you a t-shirt, and food after the ride. Got the shirt, but when the ride finished, we were told that food was another $5-$10 per person! Yeah, I didn't bring that much money with me. Needless to say, with customer service like this, I won't be back soon! Their whole attitude lately seems to be geared towards getting as much money out of people as they can, so be cautious when you go here to eat!

The service was good. The prime rib was not bad. I would rate it average for a restaurant of this type.

Not impressed. For the price, food was mediocre at best. Ordered the "special" drink for the night- was like watered down lemonade. Rolls were fantastic however, may go back for those, but not much more.

Stopped for dinner after a round of golf, no wait on a Friday night, generally not a good sign, but i have no complaints. We had the tater skins for an app, very good and big portion for the price. We both had steak, done perfect. I also recommended the spiked sweet tea, delicious!

Your typical, innocuous, peanut-shells-thrown-on-the-floor type faux-southern/Texan type joint. One would think I had to use a wet-nap because I ordered ribs. Nope. I committed sacrilege. Used a knife and fork like a surgeon. Like only I can. Skills, baby. The rib meat was passable. Cooked properly, tender but not mushy. Unsmoked, obviously steamed in an industrial steamer - like an Alto-Sham - then grilled and broiled. Sauce was excessive and too-sweet, like Kansas City style as opposed to Texas, which is funny, considering I'm at Texas Corral. The sauce obviously uses ketchup, A1 and OJ. Maybe brown sugar or honey. No mustard. No coffee. No red hot or tobasco. I'm wondering if it's prepackaged or made to an exacting corporate recipe. It'll do to satisfy my small craving, but I need to do mine. Service was really good and friendly, but there was only about four people in the joint.

My husband and I went for dinner here on a Tuesday night. It was pretty quiet, which was nice because we hate noisy restaurants. This is also likely why there weren't too many peanut shells on the floor. I am not a fan of the peanuts and shells on the floor gimmick at all. I like restaurants to actually look clean and not like a barn, but hubby was craving a steak so we ended up here. He ordered the Cowboy Steak (rib eye) and I ordered the Mesquite Grilled Shrimp, then we traded half the steak for half of the shrimp. We ordered the steak medium rare and it was actually cooked perfectly. So many places get it wrong by either serving us a practically raw steak or one that is overcooked. These guys got it just right. The steak was super tender and flavorful, though a little too salty imo. But still we enjoyed it. The shrimp was also cooked just right but the seasoning was inconsistent with some shrimp having a very light sprinkle and some being heavily doused in it. Still, we enjoyed it. The house salad was not that great. It had large chunks of lettuce ribs which I always toss out at home, and it was mainly cheap iceberg lettuce topped with grated cheese, tiny diced pieces of tomato and a couple red onion ring slices. Did not really enjoy that. The bread is to die for but I was disappointed, though not surprised, that they serve margarine instead of butter. We hate that plastic fat crap. I didn't ask if they could sub with butter because most places like this don't even have real butter in the kitchen. It was half off on margaritas that night and we were pleasantly surprised at how good they were. I half expected a half-off margarita to have half the usual amount of tequila, but these were perfect and they were huge. So that definitely went a long way in helping us to go home happy. Service was great, too. All in all it was an A-okay experience.

I am a fan of Texas Roadhouse and decided to give Texas Corral a try yesterday evening. Have to say I will not ever go back. My sirloin steak was good, but nothing else was. The rolls were hard on top-not so fresh. The plain iceberg lettuce salad (no mixed greens or spinage) was not very fresh and had a lot of the hard, white rind in it. It was very small, spread out on a plate to look like a large salad, but was only a couple bites. The cheese was like the four-cheese mix you buy in a bag at the store, and there weren't even any croutons added to it. They do add tomato & huge slices of onion (whoever eats huge-full slices of onion on their salad, I don't know) anyway, I do not care for these items on my salad, so I was left with just plain iceburg lettce & crappy cheese. The ranch was pretty good though. (Texas Roadhouse has AWESOME salad with mixed greens, wonderful homemade ranch dressing, great Cheddar cheese shredded at the restaurant-not preshredded from a bag, hard boiled egg & crouton's.) My mixed vegetable side was overcooked, completely drenched in butter, and the vegetables all tasted the same (like overcooked green beans), as if they came from a frozen bag. Our food came rather quickly, but even though there were more employees than customers in the restaurant, it took the waitress about 15-20 minutes before coming back to take our payment after dropping off our bill. All the while, we had been finished with our dinner & drinks & were ready to go. I should have known from the empty parking lot & only 2-3 tables occupied that the place was nothing impressive, but it was still pretty early in the evening & I had heard that it was very similar to Texas Roadhouse. Not even close. They charge about the same, but the food is much lower quality; not worth the price.

Had a gift certificate here so we went. Ordered the Texas Flower for an appetizer. It was just what I was expecting. It was fine, nothing too great. I then ordered the chicken chimichanga. It came with a salad that had not so fresh iceberg lettuce (not really my thing). They must have had way too much lettuce sitting around, because they put lettuce inside of my chimichanga. Cooked lettuce is very gross. So needless to say, this didn't reheat very well (had to take it home because the portions are huge). My boyfriend said that the bloody mary was decent. The service couldn't have been better. Very friendly folks.

The Texas Corral is a steak house with much the same orientation and design as a Texas Roadhouse franchise store. It does an adequate job of serving mediocre, but inexpensive steak and rib dinners. The menu offerings are simple and familiar: steaks, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, sandwiches, fried onion appetizer, simple salads and so on. There is a refillable basket of salted peanuts on each table. Shells are discarded directly on the wood floor. The restaurant website provides complete menus for the Kalamazoo location. Prices are more than commensurate with quality. This is an inexpensive lunch or dinner with simple, mediocre quality food. The food is nothing special, but it makes for a decent low-end meal. And at the end of the meal you will think "Well, that was pretty inexpensive". Service is hospitable. The staff welcomes customers and makes them feel at home. They are adequate, but not outstanding, food and drink servers too. Texas Corral is an unremarkable steak house that serves inexpensive low-end meals, and does so pretty well.

We went to Texas Corral a couple months ago and used a coupon for buy one entree get one free in Kalamazoo dining card. We had an enjoyable, reasonable priced meal there. We love their hot, fresh bread and cinnamon butter. My daughter couldn't get enough of the bread. (We actually got a second basket of bread). There is also a bucket of peanuts on each table; my son enjoyed eating those. For meals, I had a Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich. The sandwich was good, albeit a bit messy. The BBQ sauce was very sweet and the entire sandwich was moist. My son ordered the Cheddar Burger. He had enough to take half home for lunch next day. My husband ordered the Big Texas 1 Lb. Ribs and they came with a bowl of chili and the largest baked sweet potato I have ever seen in my life. He loved the sweet potato when he put the cinnamon butter for the bread on it. His ribs were delicious except for the very last one which was burnt. He enjoyed the sweet and tangy bbq sauce. For $8.99, he received a substantial amount of food! The atmosphere was relaxed (complete with peanut shells on the floor). You can read more detailed review at: diningoutchallenge.com/2…

If you want to go somewhere to chill, not be bothered and eat some mediocre food.. this is your place. The Veggies are frozen before they are re-heated and served to you. The Broccoli Cheese soup seemed frozen and heated up as well... total lack of flavor.. The potato skins that we got were pretty darn good though. My steak ordered Medium, came to me Medium Well. My Husband got the Roast Beef dish served over mashed Potatoes with a mixture of celery, onion, carrot and mushroom. The most disheartening was the super stale peanuts. We tried some from another table, off the bar in two different areas of the bar and they were stale to the point of being soft... bleh...
