I've eaten here a few times now and each time the food has been excellent. I ordered the Veracruz Chicken Tacos for dinner and had the Peanut Butter Pie for dessert. The chicken tacos had a few unique flavors that really worked well together with the Jalapeño rice and ranch style beans. The tortillas are seared on a cast iron skillet and were really good as well. Now for the Peanut Butter Pie. I've had many Peanut Butter Pie's in my day and this is at the very top of the list. You NEED to try it - you won't be disappointed! What I love about this place is that it's off the beaten path located in a quaint neighborhood near downtown. I'm always a sucker for a restaurant that many locals don't even know about.

I visited Cosmos for the first time during prime brunch time. The wait was long as expected but after my party of four was seated, service was particularly slow. The waitress who seated us spilled water over on one side of the table and didn't bring additional silverware until we asked twice. However, our server, Olga, was quite helpful and explained the menu in detail. I ordered the Blueberry Lemon Thyme waffle, which was unique, but the cream cheese did not have enough lemon to balance the creaminess. I also had eggs, toast, and potatoes. Overall, I am pleased with the menu.

Have not gone back since 2013 poor service Owner appears arrogant when we asked questions about our service. Lots of other places to patronize Too much$$$ for the value.

Tried today for the first time. We (my boyfriend and I) got there at about 10:00am, which is sort of a busy time on a Sunday. We wanted to sit outside, so we waited. "Just 15 mins" turned into 40 mins. Then after we promptly ordered our food, it was another 30 min and our food was cold and hard. We didn't want to send it back, however, since we had already waited a long time. The servers were friendly and offered us coffee while waiting. But they were also just chatting with some of the regulars while we had dirty dishes and needed our check. Also, the "regular couple" got their food 15 mins before us. We placed our order before them as well. Perhaps they ordered while waiting in line but i just felt we were kind of being ignored. The physical atmosphere was pleasant otherwise.

First time here and it was not good. Steaks came out well done when we asked for medium. Shrimp skewers was dry and cold. The service was pretty good.

The short version: Breakfast Food-average. Coffee-average diner coffee. Service-in need of improvement. This review is based on 2 sunday brunch visits to Cosmos in the last 3 weeks. And the 2 stars are only brought up from 1 star because of our outside dining experience. EATING OUTSIDE--Eating on the patio is the ONLY reason to go to Cosmos. We were greeted fairly promptly and with a smile. Seated outside. The patio is a great space to enjoy a meal. The server was good (perhaps new) and was apologizing for doing her job. "Sorry I have so many specials to tell you about..." and telling us the bread was '"from Meijer... Pepperidge Farm, I think" When the food arrived it was okay. Nothing blew our minds but it was good. Portions on the scrambled eggs were generous. Again the meal was average but enhanced with the patio seating. EATING INSIDE--A far less than desirable experience. We walked up to the host stand and had 2 employees make eye contact (one who was a server grabbing something at the host stand) and not say anything to us, but within 3 or 4 minutes the host returned to the host stand and sat our party of two. Inside tables are much closer to it is harder for your neighbors conversation not to impeded on yours, but this is tolerable. A server assistant brought water and got coffee and let us know the server, Lexie, would be right over. The server then arrive and was really an order taker. Immediately asking what we wanted. She didn't even have a greeting or introduction. I asked if there were any specials, to which she replied that yes, they had 3 special waffles and listed them off grocery-list style. At this point things were still fine and acceptable. She returned a few minutes later to take our order. She was to the point and efficient but not really personable with us or any other tables of hers near us. We then proceed to wait 56 minutes for two orders of scrambled eggs, potatoes and toast. Service at Cosmos is typically slow so I wasnt concerned until I started looking around and saw a table of 4 sat after us had their food and their plate were being cleared and we didn't have our food yet... that is when I began attempting to grab our servers attention. She made eye contact once or twice but didn't make an effort to come over. She seemed aware their was an issue and was just waiting for the food. I don't think it was totally a kitchen issue. She then brought out our food, we ate and the food was good... nothing special. She never checked back with us or make apology when she brought the food about how long it took. Brought the check and cashed it out without any personal interaction... just set it down and picked it up. I left a note on the back of the check as there was no comment card. I want to love this place. The patio is fabulous to sit and enjoy a meal on in nice weather. But service has to be at least passable.

K-Zoo, who knew? After being stranded in the city we wandered into this restaurant looking for breakfast after a pretty ferocious night. The prices were very cheap ($7-$8) and there was no wait on this Sunday morning. The staff was very accommodating and helpful even though we came in wearing clothes we played rugby in the day before. I am very pleasantly surprised.

I came here for breakfast. The food was very good. I got steak, eggs, and an ginger apple smoothie. I'll update again when I've been more recently.

First time at Cosmo's Cucina, Had reservation for 6:45 pm. I got there a little early so I decided to have a drink in the Irish pub on the first floor, O'Duffy's Pub. O'Duffy's has a great atmosphere, very cozy, friendly locals, and reminiscent of a local pub located in a small northern British town. The variety of beers available on tap were very good. I chatted with a couple of locals who have be patrons every Saturday evening for over 8 years. I plan on returning to sample some of the pub food available. Up at Cosmo's I was seated promptly by very friendly host staff. I decided to go with one of the items on special, fresh sea scallops (5) each served on a different flavor of Heirloom tomato slice with (i think was) a balsamic reduction. It was also served with a very fresh Heirloom tomato Panzanella. The scallops were expertly cooked with beautiful caramelization and seasons perfectly. The scallop combined with the tang of the heirloom tomato and the sweet acidity of the reduction created an explosion of flavor. I very much enjoyed the meal. I will be back to try other items, I hope that the quality is consistent.

I had heard good things about this place, so my wife and I went for breakfast one Saturday morning. We both walked out feeling like it was just super average tasting food. Crow's Nest on Westnedge is still our all-time favorite breakfast place, so we definitely wouldn't go back here as long as Crow's Nest is still around.

This place is so freaking cute. It's kind of hidden away in Kalamazoo, with a more bar-type place below, but if you walk up the stairs it is so laid-back and pretty without being over the top. I've been here for breakfast (obviously!) and for a dinner date. For breakfast, I've gotten the buckwheat belgian waffle almost every time. I can never finish it all, but I just keep getting it... so yummy. For the dinner, my date brought flowers and they even gave us a vase to put them in while we ate! The wine was good, and while my arugula & sundried tomato pasta entree didn't really blow me away, it was good enough and I would return to try other things off the dinner menu.

I was told I couldn't order my eggs cooked medium because they don't communicate with the kitchen when it's busy (we counted 10 open tables - not what I'd consider busy). The server brought one of our meals out several minutes before the other and never came back to see if things tasted ok. If she came back before we finished eating I would have ordered another $5 drink. Food presentation was very attractive, and I love the building this restaurant is in. If you are looking for food and service in this price range, you can do much better at other Kalamazoo restaurants.

One of the best brunch spots in Kalamazoo. When the weather is nice, they open up the patio area. Drinking a bloody mary + enjoying some quality food + sun shining on your face = perfection! Don't expect to be blown away, but to be satisfied, and maybe even a little impressed that Kalamazoo has such a unique spot to offer. Definitely a top ten for Kalamazoo.

Used to eat here quite a bit and it was always a good meal, but only had the opportunity to go once recently and that was a weekend brunch. The food was quite good, but the service was very slow. Friendly enough, though. Great vegetarian/vegan options.

I'v never had dinner here, but the breakfast is the absolute best in Kalamazoo. Fresh ingredients and the best bacon i've ever had. I don't know what it is but the bacon is amazing. I eat here routinly on the weekends, and it is always good. Sit on the patio if you can, it is great to have a nice breakfast outside overlooking the vine neighborhood. The best breakfast in Kalamazoo!

Went for Sunday brunch which is a change from what we usually go there to have which is dinner and drinks. I'm not too keen at eating at the same place I would for dinner that I would for breakfast because I don't think that places can do both well. We ordered eggs bennie and a malted waffle which I thought would have the strawberries insides of the waffle but they just put them on the top. Eggs bennie was good but not the best we have ever had. Service was not great and they weren't full inside. They do have a nice outside deck but it was too humid that day for us to sit outside and enjoy our meal.

Funny! My fav dish at Cosmo's is also the Butternut Squash Lasagna. It is so darn good that I still miss it a lot after moving to TX. Cosmo is a gem of Kalamazoo, sometimes I wonder why are they there... The menu is innovative and tasty. Perfect for date or a few good girlfriends of yours. The small patio opens for summer and too bad Kzoo does not really have many days of summer. Ambient and small dining atmosphere. Gotto go there early if you want to avoid the line. 2 thumbs up!

I absolutely love and miss Cosmo's. I lived in Kalamazoo for 10 years and loved every meal I had there! I now live in the SF Bay area and am very sad I am so far away. Truly one of my favorite restaurants ever! And I've eaten at a lot of different places. So sorry to see some negative reviews and bad experiences. That was never my experience. In fact a few times when I did not like my entree they quickly offered me a replacement. No issue. And btw, the best TIramisu anywhere hands down! You ought to hire me as a marketing person for you guys--seriously!

One of my all time favorite places to eat in Kalamazoo. I highly recommend checking them out if you're visiting the area. The food is a always amazing with a creative menu that is updated regularly with a perfect balance of vegetarian and meat options. The atmosphere is charming and really represents the best of Kalamazoo.

Wow, this was terrible. Parking was an absolute nightmare. We parked on the street and no one had shoveled the sidewalk so our party basically had chunks of snow all over us by the time we got into the restaurant. We order and then it takes about 45 minutes to get our food. When we requested free dessert because of the wait our waiter told us that was a typical wait. Bullshit. I ordered the raspberry lamb with gnocchi. The lamb was fine...the gnocchi was a different story. The raspberry juices seeped into the gnocchi and made it pretty disgusting. Kinda of like a raspberry gummy bear made out of pasta. Our waiter was CREEPY and seemed to appear out of nowhere. He often stared at us and addressed us in a peculiar manner.

I usually go to the pub: it is wonderful little old neighbor pub ambiance, sometimes bit noisy for conversation, $3 pint beer. Beautiful antique bar. Great out door in summer. Restaurant has fine food but bit overpriced. Just down the hill from the Kalamazoo landmark The Historic East Hall ( best sunset and night view of Kalamazoo after or before you eat). 5 stars for O'duffy's pub, 3&1/2 for Cosmo's

Off-the-beaten-path location. I like the open deck on the second floor. I liked the bread and the tomato soup but the soup was ridiculously small. Veggie-friendly but very limited vegan choices. The salad was also quite small for the price.

I have been in this place a few times, and my experiences were never good. The servers seemed to have contempt for the patrons, and the food was nothing special. I would pass on going here.

One of my favorites in Kalamazoo. The menu is always interesting and eclectic, and veggie friendly. It might be a little bit on the pricey side, but it's good. The atmosphere is kind of romantic - a good place for a long, leisurely first date. The breakfast is also one of the best in town - but because you're in Kalamazoo, brace yourself for bad service by some hung over college student.

  • Jack J.

The food in general is great, tho a pit pricey. The breakfast selections are one of the best in Kalamazoo, and always incorporate fresh fruits. However, don't ask for any changes to your order (no changing out the cheddar for swiss, etc). The service seems to be on the slower end, but occasionally you can get lucky.

Had dinner at Cosmo's last weekend and it was a treat! The menu is interesting with some good variety, including vegetarian which was important for our group. I opted for the pork fried rice and it was really tasty. Great flavor. This place is not large but I think it has a nice atmosphere. While some may not like the neighborhood location, I found it wonderful. I wish my block had a gem like this.

One of my favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo, Cosmo's is located above O'Duffy's Pub on Vine. It's a neighborhood place that draws friends and family from the area for some of the best seasonal food around. My favorite is the butternut squash lasagna. The menu is always changing, so there are always new and exciting dishes to try. The atmosphere is quiet and usually cast in intimate shadow. A great place to take a date or to go out with close friends.

I haven't eaten here in quite awhile, but in the past I've thoroughly enjoyed Cosmo's. My partner and I actually had our small rehearsal dinner here, and we felt very well cared for and all of our guests enjoyed their meals. The menu is small but interesting and changes often, the exposed brick and wood floors give it a warm yet urban feel and the deck is a nice touch in the summer. Brunch is typically packed, so be prepared to wait.

Those who do not wander far from Crows Nest may not know about Cosmo's Cucina. This nook is tucked down Vine Street on top of O'Duffy's Pub. It's a self-proclaimed gathering of friends, and, with a farms-to-table approach, they craft creative dishes. Be prepared to shell out a bit of money if buying an entree. They're anywhere between $11.99 for the Spinach Feta Burger to more than $20 for platters of either lamb or duck. The restaurant's most common criticism is the relatively high prices for sparse food. Consider sharing a few appetizers with friends and split the bill. The goat cheese fritter was served hot alongside with blueberries and strawberries, and the Meat Pizza balanced its proscuitto with arugula. The beers on tap accompanied the dishes well: they offer plenty of options from Bell's to Arcadia and Dark Horse to Right Brain. The food comes out slowly, but it's worth the wait. The ciabatta that accompanied the Panzanella Salad was embellished with dried blueberries, which was a starter before digging into the green-red nest of heirloom tomatoes, roasted peppers, basil, and fresh mozzarella. They twisted the traditional gazpacho by adding blueberries, and the sweetness contrasted softly with the savory tomatoes and garlic flavors. It makes for a good date option, but it's casual enough both downstairs at O'Duffy's and up at the restaurant where food accompanies an IPA well. Their dishes complimented savory with sweetness, cheese with fruit, and meat with vegetables. Check in during different Holidays, because they'll tweak the menu for the season.

Since moving to Kalamazoo years ago, I have been an infrequent customer of Cosmos. I probably visit there 2-3 times per year, and mostly stay in the pub called O'Duffy's for pub fare and drinks. O'Duffy's is a great little Irish style pub in the lower level of the restaurant. In my experience, the service here has always been stellar. Servers are warm and friendly, quick to accommodate, and never make mistakes. The only reasons that I am not a regular at the pub are because it is a bit of a distance from where I live, and because it is such an inviting environment it can be uncomfortably crowded at times. The problem that I have with this place is the food. I almost never order food when I am there hanging out with friends because it isn't just mediocre, it is terrible. Everything else about this place seems great, and I have tried to keep an open mind and give them several chances to change my mind, but every single time that I have left there, I have been hugely disappointed in my meal. In my opinion this is a great place to go for drinks. It has a great bar, and a great vibe in the place. Stick to the pub grub, and do not order food from Cosmos upstairs. You will inevitably be let down...

I should have read the reviews before coming here because they were spot on. So I made a 10am reservation for 6 people on a Saturday. We arrived at 9:40 and were immediately seated. It took about 10 minutes before someone came over and took our drink order. At this time I just ordered everything because lord knows when they will return. First there is no kids menu and the food is pricey for breakfast. We order the food around 9:50am...I look down at my watch and now it is 10:42, and still no sign of food. The food finally comes out at 10:47. My waffle is not hot. I can tell it has been sitting out. Now, it was an amazing buckwheat waffle. Too bad it took a lifetime to get it. Probably won't return. It seems slow service is something they always struggle with.

Thus far, I've only been to Cosmo's Cucina once for a group breakfast - but it was good enough that I know I'll be back again. The parking lot is quite small, so you'll likely end up parking on the street. Also, the restaurant is located upstairs above a bar, so I had to walk around the building to the backdoor to enter and then head up the stairs to meet my friends. They were able seat us at a nice, large table. The atmosphere is nice and warm. I ordered coffee to drink and the Breakfast Special, which came with 2 farm fresh eggs (scrambled), toast (wheat), and redskin potatoes with sausage. It was a good amount of food for the price and quite tasty. They were pretty busy the morning that we were there and our server seemed somewhat overwhelmed and was slow to get back over to our table - so the service did leave a lot to be desired on this first visit - but she was very sweet. Overall: 7 out of 10. I'll be back to try something different from the menu. :-)

I feel bad writing a poor review of this place, because my girlfriend and her friend really like it. Basically, I thought it was just ok, and too expensive for what they give. We got a black bean burger and a pizza, then desert. The burger was ok; the bun was a sort of onion bun, the bean patty itself had an overpowering spice flavor to it. Most black bean burgers have that flavor, but on this one it was just too strong, didn't allow you to taste the rest of the toppings as much. The desert is the part that really made me dislike the restaurant. We got a chocolate pie and a peanut butter pie. They had this super hard crust that was impossible to cut through, and pieces of the pie just went flying as we tried to chop it with our forks (we didn't have knives, though I don't think it would have been any easier.) Basically, same quality food as burdicks, but double the price. I think there are a lot of better options in the same area.

I have heard great things about this place but was very disappointed last night. Our server was just awful. Not very friendly and very slow. It took almost an hour and a half for us to get our food. We had a party of 6 and everything came out at different times. Two of the dishes came out at least 5 minutes after the other 4 were delivered. My wife and I both wanted to order the filet, I wanted it without the Gorgonzola butter and my wife wanted it with the mushroom au ju on the side. Our server came back a few minutes later to tell us we couldn't order the filet without the Gorgonzola butter or have the mushroom au ju on the side. Really? I work in the food and beverage industry and I know modifiers can be a pain in the neck. But how hard is it to put au ju on the side and 86 Gorgonzola butter? I changed my order to the pork tenderloin which was way over cooked. The pasta my wife ordered was very bland and pasty. Not a very good experience.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
