Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Chef Allen is doing some wonder things here. The food is brilliant, and the atmosphere is great. Bring your friends and enjoy a good dinner.

My wife and I and two of our friends had dinner at Comensoli's last night. We started our evening off with a bottle of wine and our friends had the peach sangria special. The wine selection wasn't huge but they had a reasonable selection across a spectrum of prices. Unfortunately the bottle we chose wasn't available but our second choice was and the bottle was quickly drained. Our friends thought the sangria was good but weren't writing home about it (they lived in Spain for a few years so their sangria scenes are a little heightened. :) ). Before our meals arrived we had soups at the table. I had the Italian wedding soup which was delicious with the sausage having a little zing to it. My wife had the soup of the day which was potato bacon and was scrumptious. For dinner I had the pasta special which was a thicker noodle with chicken breast sautéed onion, mushroom and a Dijon sauce. The sauce was the perfect bankable of Dijon and wasn't loaded with butter. The pasta was clearly made fresh and the chicken was prepared perfectly. My wife had the crimini ravioli which had an amazing flavor. It was bathed in butter which was a bit of a detractor but man was it yummy! Our friends had the fish if the day - blue marlin and the gnocchi. According to the fish eaters at the table (not me!) the marlin was one of the best dishes they've ever had. I kept hearing the words fabulous and amazing describing it. As for the gnocchi it's probably the best dish they make. Perfect fresh dumplings cooled to perfection. If your not into the massive cream sauce try it half in half with marina which is delish! The service was most excellent and the staff was very friendly. They were surprisingly not very busy for a Saturday night. The biggest complaint I have (if you can call it that) was the portion size. They are MASSIVE and the food is so good you almost have a guarantee that you're going to walk out miserable. A great evening with a great meal. We'll be back again!

I had high expectations for this restaurant as it is rated well here, and on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, I was not so impressed. I ordered the Crimini Mushroom Ravioli. The dish was decent, but it was just swimming in butter. The Italian Wedding Soup was very watered down. The best part of the meal was the Caprese appetizer, which tasted as good as it looked. There was only one server, I mean yes it was a Monday night, but they need more people on staff. Lastly, the actual location is not the greatest, especially with the loud train in the background.

This place has potential. Food was a good value and presented well. Will go back to try the pizza sometime soon. Our server was new, yet she did a good job. Her lack off menu knowledge was awkward and not professional--seemed like she wasn't trained. We sat on the patio on a perfect Sunday evening, and that was very nice.

Realllyyyy good everything! The wait staff are super nice, and the food is killer. I really enjoyed their selection of cocktails!

Wow! What a wonderful place! We stopped in for dinner tonight, it was extremely busy with a medical party. But, that did not detract from a fun experience. The service was excellent. We had garlic bread, salads, chicken polenta and gnocchi in vodka sauce. All of the food was delicious. The owners who had just come to have dinner, helped the wait staff and stopped by the tables to chat. I'm so glad we found this gem of kzoo.

This place was an awesome find! I travel with our collegiate volleyball team, and in doing that, I am given the sometimes daunting task of finding a good restaurant that can handle taking on a very large group of hungry athletes, and get us in, settled, fed, and out the door in ample time for our matches. I try to find local, family owned, restaurants in the areas we are traveling to, and in this case... it was Comensoli's! From the first call made, their manager was very helpful. We sent them our team meal orders ahead of time, and when we arrived, the tables were prepped with water, salads, and bread...and the kitchen was already working on our entrees. The meals were superb... and very healthy portions! The coaches, players and I were all VERY satisfied, and we will remember Comensoli's for all of our future visits to WMU. Thank you, Comensoli's team!

It was okay. We were seated on the deck on a VERY chilly Friday night--like minus ten chilly. The only other people seated out there were either very casually dressed or, like us, had young children with them. The deck is heated--but it definitely wasn't warm. We ate with our coats on. Service seemed a little slow, flavors were off, and I had a chef's special pasta dish that was, I'm sorry, just weird. Sounded good, but lots of leathery sun-dried tomatoes don't do it for me. As noted in other reviews, not much is homemade. Husband had good chicken Marsala and kids enjoyed their pepperoni flatbread.

I have no idea why this place ranks so highly. The wedding soup was watery and had no flavor. I cannot believe they wanted 10$ for two small bowls! I could've made better soup with campbells. Also, there was a box of franzia in the bar, probably trying to pass as house wine. No thanks.

Just had dinner here with the family for the first time. Had the tomato and feta bruschetta and garlic bread as appetizers. Very good. Had the pesto pasta for dinner - it was awesome for a pesto fan. My husband had the chicken Parmesan and loved it. My son had the tortellini with vodka sauce and it was great as well. Casual atmosphere and friendly service. I would definitely go back except my daughter just graduated from WMU and we're heading back east.

Just had dinner at Comensoli's and want you to know the Chicken Piccata was great. The sauce was perfect, the spaghetti side was perfect. The Caesar salad was crisp, not necessarily the traditional salad but very flavorful. No anchovies, but had not requested them. They have daily specials which are a reason to go. Today, Tuesday was 1/2 off on selected wines. We had a chianti from the list which was very good. All in all a wonderful experience. Comensoli's will be our new go to Italian restaurant.

Good! Haven't been here for a couple years and really enjoyed the meal here. I had the Pizza Margherita and it was delicious. They use a tomato sauce on the Margherita and looked like thin, broad slices of fresh mozzarella which covered the whole pizza. Just right amount of fresh basil. Crust was thin and crisp. The only small thing was the slightly too salty taste. Not sure where that came from. The sauce, maybe. I recommend this Pizza Margherita, much better than the one I had last week (at a different place). I also had a coffee which I thought was surprisingly good. Espresso is not available. Not very expensive but the silverware is some of the worst cafeteria utensils you would ever see. One of my pet peeves. A good place, should do it again. Visited again,Jan. 2015, the pizza wasn't as good. Too dry.

Summary: Well-priced good food, but everything else is sub par Recommendation: Go here if food is the only thing that matters to you in a restaurant This place is tacky. The decor is tacky, the live musician trying to sell his CD while you eat is tacky, and the fact that you can see the bathroom door from anywhere in the restaurant is incredibly tacky. If patrons have to be careful of hitting each other when they get up from their meal, the tables are too close together. The service is slow but not appallingly so. The large bar seems out of place in such a small restaurant. With all of the above, this is not a romantic place to eat. Okay. That said, the food is really quite impressive for the price.

As long as Chef Alan is in the house, you'll never have a better dining experience if you get the Chef's Dinner. Call ahead to make sure Alan will be there and can accommodate your party. You'll be blown away by so many things: his artistry, his attention to detail, his accommodation of dietary special needs, the presentation, the wine pairings, the combination of flavors, and Alan's expertise in every aspect of giving you an extraordinary dining experience. There's nothing else like this in West Michigan and I guarantee you won't be sorry.

My husband had a pork chop with short rib and root vegetable ragu--he said it was amazing. (That was the "steak of the week.") The atmosphere was nice and we had an enjoyable dinner. Definitely a local feel.

My family and I had an excellent meal with reasonable prices and good presentation. Especially good at Italian pasta specialties and their poultry dishes are quite flavorable. Seating is somewhat limited although they have extended seating that is fine for non-winter months but I wouldn't recommend when it's very cold.

Visited there with my son and his Kzoo college roommate for dinner. Great welcome and very friendly service. Had a tuna special which was excellent and both boys had pizza which was good. Will go back on future visits to kzoo

Comensoli's has replaced Pasta Pasta and appears to be under the same management. I am unsure of how to compare it to Pasta Pasta since I never went there before it became Comensoli's. Comensoli's is a cozy, comfortable Italian restaurant on the outskirts of downtown. They feature live music Thursday through Saturday. It is relatively small, with an indoor dining area and a covered patio area. The patio appears to either be new or newly renovated. I say that because when I was seated in the patio area, there was a pile of clutter that included a wooden box labeled "explosive projectile." The heaters also had some problems staying on, but thankfully it wasn't too cold at the time. Hopefully these little blips have been taken care of since then. Everything I have gotten here has been delicious. I have sampled the chicken piccata with polenta (I'm picky about chicken, but this was excellent!), the chicken parmesan (also tender and good, the melted mozzarella was so tasty), the feta bruschetta, gnocchi, portabella mushroom ravioli (I usually don't like mushrooms, but this was sooo good), and the wilted rose soup. The wilted rose soup is an intense garlic soup. Obviously, if you like garlic, you will probably love this. It burned the back of my throat so I can't really handle more than a few spoonfuls. Hands down, the food here has tasted very fresh and delicious. I didn't get that overly heavy, oily feeling that I sometimes get from eating Italian food. It was filling, but not too heavy. The service here has been quite good for me as well, although you can probably expect longer waits during their peak times. I think Comensoli's is currently my favorite Italian restaurant in Kalamazoo. It's smaller and a bit less overwhelming than a bigger place like Mangia Mangia and the food is great.

A friend and I tried this place and we hated it! The food was bland and the service was terrible. Not to mention the restuarant was cold and loud. The location isn't ideal and there wasn't any selling points on this place for me. I'm typically apt to give a restuarant another chance but in this case, no thanks.

Pasta not homemade. Bread not homemade. Macaroni and Cheese was Kraft blue box! Tortellini was from a bag- I could see the cook from where I sat, linguine over-cooked and mushy. I had the mussels- it was just ok- canned black olives, canned capers, boxed spaghetti, canned tomatoes- just ho-hum.No fresh parmesan cheese and how do you eat spaghetti without a spoon to roll your pasta on! If you are interested in drinking your dinner, they have a six page book of wine, beer and drinks. Glassware cloudy, silverware old and pitted. Sat by the staircase and there was so much activity going up and down the stairs and in and out of kitchen area. I chose this place for my birthday dinner, Not impressed.

Best Italian dining experience I've had since Rome. Service was great. Started with the best dirty martini I ever had, then on to a salad for an appetizer, a delicious plate of pasta, and ended with chocolate cake. The entire experience was a pleasure. I will definitely be going back, soon. Also ... they have gluten free pasta and dessert!

Dinner last night was very good! Although the spicy sauce was just that, perhaps a little too spicy. Fresh bread was delicious!

Loved this place!!!! The service was great - met the owner who was super friendly. Prices were good and the food was even better! I would highly recommend this place.

I used to work in this Italian joint when it was called Pasta Pasta. When I worked there we used to have a "sauce bar." You received your made-in-house noodle and ladled your own sauce over your pasta. The beauty of this is trying many different sauces - choices included a Pericolosa (meaning, "spicy" in Italian), a ricotta-nut mint sauce, creamy chicken, marinara, melted butter with dill, and so forth. What a bummer they took the sauce bar out. BUT, the food quality has by no means gone down. The pastas are still freshly made, a huge rarity in any Italian restaurant, sadly. And they still have the lasagna roll-ups - Lasagna noodles with ricotta cheese and herbs rolled into three medium-sized pinwheels and topped with marinara. The bread is good, not great. This restaurant has a fond place in my heart so I'll always stop in when I can here.

Fantastic Italian restaurant with great food and great service. The bread is excellent! Try the chicken parm or the chicken picatta. You won't be disappointed. It even smells like an Italian restaurant! Joe D 06/24/12

Had dinner there the other night and I must say that there are a lot better places to eat Italian food. The entrees were just average, the bread was something you can buy at any grocery...not very good...for sure not Italian.

My husband and I decided to check this place out because it touted a gluten free menu. We went a little after lunch time, so it was pretty empty and quiet. We had a table right by the windows and the ambiance was really nice. I had the meatball sandwich and it was very tasty. I couldn't finish it all because I filled up on the bread and the salad, but it tasted good as leftovers too. The hubs got a chicken dish with green beans. He is somewhat picky, along with being gluten free, and they catered to his needs very well. We will go back.

My wife and I went there recently for our Anniversary and it was fantastic. I had the chicken cacciatore, which had the right amount of flavor and spice and chicken that was cooked perfectly. My wife had the salmon and she absolutely loved it. Great atmosphere to go along with the food. There was live music on a Thursday night which added a nice touch, and the music was quiet so we could talk and enjoy our meals. This is an extremely high value restaurant; we got out for under $40 with a nice, romantic dinner.

I've stopped going here since they discontinued the pasta sauce bar - that was a great attraction.
