Excellent selection of beers on tap as well as by bottle. Lighting is calming and relaxing. The menu is terrific - great 'bar burgers', of course, but also a well delivered 'notch above the rest' menu, e.g., mahi mahi taco, bangers and mash. I've never been a fan of their seating arrangement; it feels awkward and a little uncomfortable, but seats at the bar always work and tables in the back are less conspicuously placed. Don't get the wrong impression - stop in - you really will enjoy the beer and menu that goes well beyond pub food.

Good food and friendly servers. Bar is pretty cool with its whiskey list. They have a nice patio to sit out on warm days. Some unique dishes.

Central City Taphouse gets 4 stars for their menu options and their ability to deliver on that menu. I dined here with colleagues and was not disappointed. We started off with some local brews before ordering our entrees. I decided on the duck tacos which were unique and full of flavor. The ingredients pulled together nicely when paired with the truffle fries. The truffle fries were some of the best I've ever had. Slight taste of garlic, crispy, and lightly dusted with cheese. Others at the table ordered the lobster mac and cheese, the schnitzel, and one of the fish specials. No complaints from anyone at the table. They have a fairly extensive list of local brews in addition to some other domestics. I tried the Evil Twin Saison and the Arcadia IPA - both solid. If you're in the area I recommend stopping in for a drink and grabbing a bite to eat.

Great tap selection. We had good attentive service. They were stingy on the chips and salsa appetizer but offered to bring more chips for free. Lamb sliders were a bit dry but had good flavor. The turkey avocado club was delicious but the bacon was extremely salty. Good atmosphere and overall pretty solid dining option in Kzoo.

A great place to go if you can get a seat! I love the Central City Tap House, and have never been disappointed- it's just often really busy! (Not a bad thing.) They beer list is great; so many different local beers to choose from! It changes, but there is always something for everyone. Had a bartender recommend and pick for me, and was pleasantly surprised each time. I've only had a couple of different choices from the menu, as I loved them too much to change. The portobello sandwich is to die for. It's lightly breaded and fried, so it's perfectly crispy, and the smoked Gouda on top is the perfect touch. Additionally, the kale and bert salad is amazing; it is so full of flavor, and actually really filling if you're not feeling a sandwich or burger. Lastly, there is no question: always, always order the truffle fries. The flavors are wonderful and I could eat them all day.

Greek Bread Salad- Grilled bread, artichokes kalamata olives, cucumber, mixed greens, feta cheese, Greek dressing $7.50 -This salad is perfect with a small side. I ordered the Cheddar Ale cup of soup, along with the salad, I love the large chunks of feta and artichoke. Perfect size to share as appetizer too. Portobello Burger-crispy fried-smoked gouda stuffed-Portobello mushroom, red wine vinaigrette, spring mix lettuce, tomato, onion, roasted pepper $8.95 -I LOVE anything FRIED, combine, cheese and veggies with it and it is ideal! I am not a bread fan, so I usually order without the bun, you can also switch up the bread...if you are feeling super adventurous I recommend the truffle fries instead of regular, or order a side of malt vinegar to get that yummy fair food taste. The only item I am not a fan of is the roasted red pepper, it is large and a lil' slimy...I'm working on my texture issues!!

Central City Tap House is a really cool place to go. I love their beer selection; I am guaranteed to find something on tap of which I have never even heard. The food is awesome, I know I can confidently order something new every time and have it taste great. A few of my favorite items on their menu: -Chips and salsa. Yes, seriously. Their salsa is home made and it's really good. -Their portobella sandwich. The mushroom is stuffed with smoked gouda. Serious yum factor. - Their Madison Square Burger. A burger topped with their smoked gouda portabella mushroom. Huge and delicious. - Mac & cheese topped with pork belly. It's a calorie bomb, but probably super worth it. - Truffle fries with everything - Wings. Simple and delicious The only things that deter me from coming here more frequently are: - They are always paaaaacked (that's a good sign, but I am really impatient) - They are not good at estimating wait times. For example, last weekend we were told a 45 minute wait and it literally took them an hour and 45 to seat us. Thank god we had a couple of chairs at the bar where my friends and I could socialize and have a few beverages. - People like to camp out at their tables after dinner (again, a good sign, but I am so impatient). All in all, I highly recommend coming here, especially if you're looking to eat at an "off" time.

The beer selection is amazing... I asked my waiter to pick things for me to drink all night and he did not fail to delivery! The food is to die for!!!! My portobello burger is so amazing... It is fried unlike most portobello burgers but it's very light on the breading! Also the Bangers and Mash... Is excellent. I can't wait to go back and try more things.

Over priced beer. Serve two hearted warm and claims that is how it is intended to be served by Bells. REALLY??? Larry, please to clarify, as I have never had a warm 2 hearted at your place???? Also had cauliflower dip for $8 that was bland with stale pita chips.

Got the Frites and Garlic Aioli. Cold and flavorless. Burger was OK. No ingredients to spice it up. Had to ask for ketchup, mayonnaise, etc. Its dry and boring. I can get an awesome burger at SMASHBurger and amazing fries for half the price. My wife asked about drink specials and the server said there weren't any. We later found that there were some specials on their web page. Millennium restaurants used to be the "good" ones to go to but lately, I've been disappointed with the quality.

Basically my favorite dinner out restaurant in Kalamazoo. Love the location and the atmosphere. Small setting but they always have tables open! Their drafts constantly change and they always have "tap takeovers". Food is really good. Kind of pricey but worth it for sure

I went to the Taphouse for the first time last weekend and was completely blown away. We just stumbled upon it and initially were thinking it was just going to be standard bar food. Boy, were we wrong! Had the most amazing fish and chips, very genuine calamari, and some delicious mussels. Great, and extremely friendly service and a fun atmosphere without being overwhelming. Probably going again this weekend!

We went there last night for the second time, the first time we sat at our table for over 10 minutes and no server came so we left. Tried it again because the vibe there seemed good and they have some good craft beer on tap. The beer list and ambiance was the best part of this this restaurant. If you are going there to have drinks with friends it's a perfect place! If you are going for dinner, don't. The food was just ok bordering on bad. We had the devil egg appetizer, a burger and fish tacos and nothing had any taste, super bland and not what the menu described. Our waitress was nice but pretty much every other server and the hosted were not and seemed like they hated their life a little. I would never eat their again but maybe grab a beer if I was in Downtown Kalamazoo.

The staff here is usually knowledgeable about all of the beers on tap. The menu is decent. The service is hit or miss. Last night, our waitress had difficulties keeping track of our bills. She accidentally rang up a friend of mine as if she paid with a $20 bill. My friend only had $15 on her but the waitress kept insisting that she must pay with a $20 so she could get back the correct change. As we were trying to figure this out, the waitress returned and handed the change back to my friend...before she had even paid anything. The waitress did not accept any responsibility for the confusion. She blamed everything on the fact that the Epic Bistro- a restaurant that is connected to the Tap House- was really busy that night.

Summary: Nice place to relax, have a drink, and nibble on some food Recommendation: Give it a try if the prices don't scare you off This place has recently become one of my favorite places to hang out. The crowd's a little older and more refined than Kalamazoo's typical drinking venues (which I'm sure is due to the prices), so the volume level inside is perfect for conversation. There's outdoor patio seating which is really nice in the summer. There's also a pseudo-patio indoors at the front. Despite what another reviewer has said, the service has been mediocre at worst in my experience. The servers have always been friendly, albeit a little slow. Then again, it's not the kind of place you rush through, so having the extra time to just sit and talk and enjoy isn't necessarily a bad thing. The beer list is fantastic and changes all the time. I most recently tried the Paulaner hefeweissen: delicious. They serve their beer in the appropriate glass for that type of beer which is cool if that's your kind of thing. In addition to beer, they have a good selection of wine and whiskey. Tip: The 3oz wine pours are (unusually) exactly half the price of the 6oz wine pours, so you could go for the 3oz to try more wines. I've taken to getting the charmoula lamb sliders every time I go. I keep meaning to branch out, but I love them so much that I can't bear to not order them. The flavor is full and Greek, and the lamb is always cooked to perfection (something that seems to be difficult to do). Other menu items: The truffle fries are to die for The special potato garlic soup that sounded so delicious lacked flavor The brown derby salad had kind of a strange mix of ingredients that worked really well together The spinach dip is your standard spinach dip, nothing special You can also order off the Epic menu if you prefer.

I visited Central City Tap House the very first evening I moved to Kalamazoo and I thoroughly enjoy the food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pretty standard when it comes to a bar and grille...maybe even a little quieter than normal. My main concern was the service. Our dine-in took place around 1pm and guests were trickling out from the lunch rush and therefore it really wasn't all that busy. With that said, it took at good 7-10 minutes to even be welcomed and offered drinks. Not sure what was going on, but once we ordered, the food came out in a timely manner. The food offerings were much more expensive than I expected, but they were worth it. Very tasty food with some classy flair...unique combinations of flavors in my sandwich that worked very well together (brie cheese, turkey, apple, and pesto mayo). I guess I just thought it would've been more of your typical "pub food" but that was actually a pleasant surprise. The only other thing I didn't really like was the somewhat crammed seating arrangements. The restaurant had an average to large sized bar, but actual seating seemed rather limited and the table I was at seemed quite close to the next. Overall, I really enjoyed the food, but the experience was a little different than expected (price and service specifically)

I've enjoyed this place the few times I've been here. Two recommendations: Dead guy whiskey and deviled eggs (ask for spicy aioli to put on top). Sit at the bar, the bartenders are very knowledgeable and friendly. One more recommendation: don't bring any loud talkers here. It is a quiet, calm place to eat/drink at. You wouldn't want to embarrass yourself!

I really liked the atmosphere in the bar. The beer selection is good, although they could have more ciders. Service was slow - only one waitress. I ordered the prosciutto-wrapped dates and I didn't think it was possible to not like this very simple appetizer. First, they stuffed them with chorizo, which as a bit of overkill. But then they put this ketchup-like sauce over them that was completely unnecessary. Dates are delicious! Don't drown out their flavor. My friend had the artichoke/spinach dip, which tasted like it came from a package. There's a lot to like about this bar, but the service needs to check in a bit more and the food could use an upgrade.

I've been to Tap House twice and haven't left disappointed. They have a great beer selection and have half off bottles on Sundays. Try the turkey apple bacon burger with white cheddar is mouth watering. Add truffle fries to your burger and you're all set. My friend raves about the fish tacos as well! The prices are just a bit above average, but it's worth every penny.

Finally decided to review after being there tonight. I probably go there at least once weekly if not three ties a week. Good beer selection altho not extensive...good big bottles of beer thanks to Brandon's selection AND I suggest u ask about them. Sometimes he has some great selectinbs hidden away... Bar food. Has the wings again after sending them back for two years. Asked tobe cooked more and they were good. YAY. Love the bartending staff but now know them so that ay make a diff. Like the atmosphere and fee at home anytime of the day or night.
Positives: service was all around fantastic. Both bartenders my wife and I interacted with were super friendly, very unpretentious and down to earth. Our waitress was really sweet and helpful as well, and checked in with us regularly. We were never left waiting. And the bloody marys were really good. Cons: I had to go with 2 stars instead of 3 mainly because of how awful the bread pudding was, but I'll back up and talk about the appetizers and the mac and cheese. Calamari was pretty good. Crab dip was alright. Mac and cheese I had as my main course was super bland... very disappointed with that. I had such high hopes for it but even with the bacon on top it was just lacking a lot of flavor. And now.. the bread pudding. Seriously, what the heck. Every bread pudding I've ever had at any other restaurant is this gooey, chewy, sweet, puddingy texture... just delicious. Never had a bad experience with bread pudding. THIS bread pudding on the other hand was AWFUL. seriously AWFUL. It was literally a bowl full of chunks of stale bread with melted chocolate and marshmallows on top, and it had bacon in it, which sounded good in theory but with how dry the bread was, the bacon just didn't work. There was hardly anything "pudding" about this dish. dry and nasty. Whatever you do, DO NOT order this.

I've been here a half dozen times now and I consider myself a fan. I've always had solid servers. The bar menu is above average and bordering on very good (probably not quite gastropub territory but not far off). Lots of good beer selections that change often. This is a great place to go after work. I've never tried it late at night.

I live down the street from here, it has only been open 19ish months, this has become my favorite bar in Kalamazoo. Laid back, modern/rustic/classy without being too uptight. Service, setup and food were all weak the first 6ish months but have all improved to speak to Dave W's comment. It is a seat yourself bar, which can be a problem on busy nights, but it's a popular place. Food is good, but you come here to push and get adventurous with your beer palate. From domestic, local brews Bells (In Kalamazoo and blocks away), to an assortment of international beers that can change monthly. This is the perfect place to start your evening.

I have been here twice, and you should think twice before going here. We will not call this a gastropub, since gastropubs pride themselves on the quality of food. On opening night, I came for food and drinks. It took a half-hour to get noticed by our server. He brought a menu, and right away asked if we were ready to order. I said we need a minute to look over the beer menu. The one thing I thought they did right, was the beer selection. It's quite extensive, and they have a more uncommon selection of import and craft beers on draught. Although, they were out of three beers that I requested, including one of them that was supposed to be on tap that night. If it was some off-night, I wouldn't think it would be no sweat, but running out of beer that you have on the menu on opening night?? Finally I got my fourth choice of beer after an extreme amount of time. They happily comp'ed an appetizer because of the long wait for me to finally get a beer. We tried the cured fish, which is more like a few pieces of fish, on a salad. It was over-dressed, and the fish was more of an after-thought. The cheese plate we had was so-so. Deviled eggs were somewhat better than store-bought, although rather expensive for what you get. The male bartender was too busy buttering up three attention-seeking female patrons at the bar. To my dismay and complete lack of surprise, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get a drink here. Management was too busy eating at the bar to manage the place on opening night. The second time I went, I tried the chicken minestrone. They brought me a seafood soup. Not really what I had in mind, so I sent it back. The minestrone was good. I enjoyed it, but maybe because I was hungry. I tried the rock shrimp, and they were too heavy on the breading, and they give you a wooden seafood(?) fork with which to eat them. Probably not a great idea, since the breading fell to pieces when they skewered one of the tiny popcorn-sized shrimps. I had the stuffed cabbage as an entree, which I don't recommend to anyone unless you like your cabbage under-cooked and the meat/rice mixture inside to be dry and flavorless. The tomato sauce on top of it was more like a canned pasta sauce. I assured my server that I didn't want to be a pain, but that my entree was not properly prepared. He assured me that this is not the first time they have had complaints about this dish. In a desperate move to get some food ASAP, I ordered a sausage pizza. It's pretty difficult to mess up pizza, right? Wrong. Think of eating a rubber mat covered in pasta sauce and government cheese with a few sprinkles of sausage. Being totally flabbergasted at this point, and on the verge of tears we decided to call it a night. I will not be coming back until radical changes are made in service, management, and in the kitchen. Keep the beer list. Axe everything else.

I stopped in here with a friend on a Sunday night. The best part about the visit was the 50% off 750ml bottles of beer, which we shared. We started with the truffle and parmesan frites which were OK, but the portion size was small. I ordered the taphouse mac&cheese which was tasteless, I wouldn't recommend it. My friend ordered the Hawaiian pulled BBQ pork sandwich- it was just OK as well, and didn't have enough sauce on it. Overall, I probably wont go back to eat there, but I would go back for the beer selection and 50% off Sunday bottles.

Central City Tap House has a lot of potential. The menu items are creative... and of those I've tried, rather good. The ambiance is nice, and the wait-staff seems rather attentive. I should mention that I've only been here for lunch. The primary shortcoming of this place is that it just isn't worth the price. While the food is good, it's much too expensive for what you get. If the prices were about 30% lower, I'd be a regular.

Beer -- Excellent selection and decent prices Food -- I had Shepherd's Pie $9.95 (pretty bland), the wife had Bangers & Mash $9.95 (quite good) Atmosphere -- nice, relaxed Wait staff -- good Visit again -- likely We were there on Sunday evening and it was pretty quiet. Only a few other people.

Ordered the Lobster & Shrimp macaroni & cheese. Don't recommend it, pasta had no flavor and there was only one piece of lobster in it. I think for the price you might want to put more lobster in it. We also ordered the chicken pasta, not to bad except for the gritty sand in the mushrooms that were in it! It's not a good thing when you leave still hungry, the waitress could have asked if we wanted dessert !!! I don't think we'll be back .

I went here with a group for lunch. I had the Mahi Tacos and they were good. I think it is a fine restaurant for any lunch or dinner but I did not see, or taste, anything to rave about. Oh, it amused me that the menu touted "smoked pork belly" in some of the dishes. When did bacon become so fancy?

Quite good pub fare. I've been there three or four times. They serve interesting, delicious, and well-prepared pub grub that's trendy in the good way. You definitely gotta try the mussels!

Over priced beer. Serve two hearted warm and claims that is how it is intended to be served by Bells. REALLY??? Larry, please to clarify, as I have never had a warm 2 hearted at your place???? Also had cauliflower dip for $8 that was bland with stale pita chips.

Loved the Dark and Stormy!! So good I had 2. The food is really only average. Nothing special. Mahi tacos not what I expected. The fries with truffle oil were OK. Will go back since it is close to the State Theater!!

Amazing food, great service and lots of beer choices! We love the sliders.... Pork, burger and lamb. So delicious!

I like the atmosphere of this pub. Pretty good beer selection and a good selection of menu choices. I haven't been disappointed yet.

My sis, best friend and I decided to go out for a ladies evening when I was home in October to meet my brand new nephew. Our original location was closed on the evening we tried to go out, so we decided to try Central City Tap House. The décor was very cool - it's like a hole in the wall bar with a gourmet menu. Apparently CCTH shares the kitchen with the Epic Bistro next door (same owners), so the food was not what you'd expect at all for a bar - not greasy, great combinations of ingredients, multiple options. We started out with the spinach dip, which in all honesty was a bit of a disappointment. It really didn't have much taste at all. But then we moved on to the flatbread pizzas, which were some of the best I've had. My sister and I split the margherita and our friend had the pizzeto blanco. I would recommend both. Only (small) knock is that it can get crowded pretty quickly in there. This half of the restaurant is much more family friendly, so there seems to be a lot more children and noise. If you're looking for a fun, laid back experience, hit up Central City; if you're out on a date night, go to Bistro.

The smell of this place is fantastic. Good bar food, cozy atmosphere. Fun place with friends.

This is the place where it just feels right. Great bear, good food and the service is relaxed.

Great little pub. Chop chop salad with salmon is awesome! Edamame was really great too. They put a teriyaki glaze on it. Mmm!

(3)Michelle F.
I don't think we'll be back .

nice sports bar. food is great. fries are worse that mediocre and serving sizes are small. nice beer selection. service is very slow.
