We were getting some pool supplies in the same plaza earlier this summer when we noticed some flyers on their counter for a recently opened restaurant a few doors down. On the spur of the moment, we decided to get lunch at Allen K. Ryan's. We opted for a special they were offering- a bucket of chicken, with bread/butter, and two sides. We went with the broasted potato wedges and cole slaw. We've been craving the same meal on a regular basis ever since and indulged that craving several times! WOW. This is hands down the best fried chicken either of us has ever had. The sides are all excellent, too - those potato wedges are the stuff of dreams. Nice creamy, just sweet enough cole slaw. We've tried the potato salad on a subsequent visit, and it was yummy, too. Their signature barbecue sauce is just the right mix of sweet and spicy, and definitely have them dip your chicken in it - it's worth the upcharge! We love to dip our potato wedges in it, too - forget ketchup! We've bought a bottle of the BBQ sauce and I used it in place of ketchup for my meatloaf recipe here at home - and we both agreed, it was significantly improved by that change. (And meatloaf was already a popular dish around here to begin with, but it was made better!) Really nice family that owns and runs the place too. Your dollars stay local when you eat here, and you are getting better quality than you would elsewhere. At a chain restaurant, my husband would need several pieces of chicken to feel full. One of the humongous chicken breasts here was enough to fill him up along with the sides! Very reasonable pricing for what you get. Definitely check these folks out! Note: The number that came up through the Yellow Pages website is apparently outdated. I can't change it on the listing - but know that you will want to call (517) 518-8736 to find them!

Amazing! I truly mean that. This little spot has done in, carry out, and catering. They serve ribs (which fall off the bone), chicken, burgers, fish, and sandwiches. The fish had a cheese stick type breading, which was nice. The ribs fell off the bone and the chicken was super juicy. The BBQ sauce has an apple flavoring to it. We will definitely return here. This place out ranks many of the local BBQ places around here.

Now that I've had a week or two to think about this, I'm going to say nah, don't think I'll go back. If it were in my neighborhood, I would give it another chance and order something different. Once you walk in, you need to give your order at the counter whether you're dining in or taking out. I sat at a table a few minutes before I finally asked since I wasn't acknowledged. The menu is large, so read thoroughly and be sure to ask for a drink if you want one. I wasn't asked and later realized I wanted a cup of water. I ordered the BBQ chicken dinner. I saw BBQ bottles around, so I mistakenly assumed the BBQ would be a rub rather than sauce. The dinner came with BBQ sauce on the chicken. The sauce was much too rich, but the taste was good. The chicken, underneath the sauce, was very tasty and wished I had gotten it plain. They are really cooking in the kitchen, so it does take some time to get your order. I could see that the service to other customers was good. I just didn't experience it and there were only two other table with customers. Oddly, the other customers were men. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. If it were just around the corner, I'd give it another shot. I'll move on for now.

The food was enjoyable (we had both the chicken and the ribs), but the service and atmosphere provided by this family owned business was the best part. We will definitely be back for more of the house BBQ sauce. Go support these guys.

We visited based on Yelp's recommendations and we were not disappointed! Excellent service, friendly staff and an owner who wants to be sure his customers are pleased with their meal. The ribs were delicious, chicken was a real treat since we don't normally eat fried food, potatoes and cole slaw both were so much better than the frozen/bulk stuff served elsewhere. We ordered plenty for leftovers and we're glad we did. It's a pleasure to patronize a local eatery. It's a bit hard to find so I wish them well. If they were downtown Howell you would have to wait in line to get in.

Really like the grilled chicken, it is my favorite. Great for lunch or grabbing it for dinner on my way home from work. They also have really good ranch. Which is important.

There's something about getting OUTSTANDING customer service with a meal that makes the food even more DELICIOUS! I would patronize this establishment just on the fact that they are so personable, let alone the fact that the ribs are awesome! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick delicious meal at a very reasonable price.

We just celebrated my daughters first birthday and used Allen K Ryan's to feed about 50 people. Everyone thought it was Chicken Shack (a bunch of family from the east side). We have been looking for a place similar in the area and are happy we found it. We will definitely order from them again and start stopping in to pick up dinner on a regular basis. They were also prompt in delivery and we even got a thank you call the next day.

Best chicken this side of Frankenmuth! I would even go as far as saying they are as good as Zender's! The burgers are also nothing short of amazing! I go here at least once a week sometimes more. The prices are great. You can walk out with a burger and frys for the same price as burger king. Difference = these burgers are 10X better!

We have seen this place for some time, but hadn't tried it. Our lose everything was very good. The best barbecue in the area! The ribs are very tender and meaty. Broasted chicken very juicy and tender, potato wedges are boasted as well and good. The Cole slaw was very creamy and delicious. Friendly family owned local business worth supporting. Nice people

I went for lunch and they had great specials. For the price, you can't beat it. Nice small atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food.

I was not sure what to expect, but thought we would give it a try after have horrible food from their across the street competitor. Staff was wonderful, friendly. Food was made while I waited, not pre made. Just got chicken with potatoes. It was perfect and reminded me of the broasted chicken from my home town.

Stopped in today for some barbeque after reading reviews on yelp. One review mentioned "best barbeque in the area" and I'd have to disagree based on my first meal. I ordered a 4 bone rib dinner with french fries and cole slaw to-go. After leaving I checked my bags to find no plasticware or napkins. I was going to eat roadside at a park, instead drove home. After grabbing a fork and knife I dig further into my meal. The French fries (only about 5 minutes old) are mushy and unsalted. The ribs had a lot of meat but it didn't make up for them being dry (I did see them heated on a flat top). Sauce on the ribs reminds me of a "happy's"-like bbq sauce-- Definitely not the "best". Cole slaw was also dried out on top with all the liquid at the bottom telling me that it has been prepped for at least a couple hours in the foam portion container. Maybe you get what you pay for? My meal plus a 20 oz Pepsi cost me just over $13. Apparently for The Best barbecue I will need to spend more on 4 bones.

Allen K Ryan's has become a favorite of our office staff for birthday lunches and other special occasions. We all love the chicken, the coleslaw is fantastic and the BBQ sauce is awesome!
