I'm surprised to see such negative reviews on this place. Mind you, I didn't feel it was worth driving from Grand Rapids for when they have their own great options, but the food was good and came out quickly. The pumpkin apple soup was very good, as was the tomato bisque. The sandwiches were also tasty, and had some great chips as a side. They had great flavor and better than just a standard bag of chips. The cashiers were young- but they were both knowledgable and helpful to us first-timers.

Always a great experience. All of their food is made to order and they use fresh ingredients. I have tried multiple items on their menu and have never been let down. I recommend the Denver and the Seattle!

Love this place! They have so many choices, there is something for everyone. My personal favorite is the Denver - the sprouts and cucumber make it so fresh tasting! They have amazing customer service there, everyone always has a smile on their face and are happy to help you through their extensive menu. The City Deli is one of my favorite spots downtown.

Yum. I love this deli. It is just a deli so don't expect gourmet fare, just good soups and sandwiches. Lots of sandwich options and the frozen yogurt bar is fun. Sooo much better than any chain food.

So nice, so delicious, so amazing! The employees were so helpful and friendly! The sandwiches are all names after places of the US, which is fun. I got the Great Falls and was not let down. This was the first restaurant we ate at in downtown Holland and it really set the bar. Very clean and definitely somewhere to give a try.

Food is mediocre, service slow and prices are high. And who asks for a tip for running a cash register! There are many other good restaurants in downtown Holland for a soup and sandwich. Avoid this one.

First visits are always a roll of the dice. I picked the Oakland, a warm roast beef sandwich. Accompanying the sandwich was a small pile of salt and pepper chips. Sandwich good except for sauce which reminded me of a McRib. Will try this sandwich without the barbecue sauce next time.

yeaaaaaa this place kinda sucked ass with the food. Went there for the Tulip festival and ate at the delicatessen since they had a special menu for the festival. And man, did it suck. I was with Dutch people who thought the food was pretty bad as well. I thought the pea soup was passable, but that is all. I tried the meatball sandwich, which was bland, and the pig-in-a-blanket, the sausage was awful. I think one of my friends tried some of the american food and that was better. So maybe get that when you go there? And I saw they had an ice cream bar as well, where you can pick your flavours and toppings. The place looks like a diner. Clean and everything but the wait staff wasnt the greatest either. One person waited almost 15 mins after we were all served for his meal, and finally had to go and get it himself.

I got the club sandwich as I have never been here before. The sandwich was amazing. You can tell they use quality ingredients, not to mention the staff was very friendly. My fiancée got the Santa Fe and loved it. The potatoe salad wasn't to our liking but we will definitely return to try some more sandwiches.

City Deli has come a long way since it first opened here. The sandwiches are very filling and quality ingredients. They have plenty of choices of hot and cold sandwiches. They also have salads, soups, and pizza. My favorite is the Sacramento on ciabatta bread which is turkey, ham and bacon. The frozen yogurt bar is also awesome (lots of toppings and you pay by the ounce). I feel like the service has gotten much faster and better. It's nice to sit outside in the summer and the bathrooms are very clean and updated.

I agree with Crystal! I can't believe the negative reviews. Although, Rits M. states that the place "sucked ass", with a mouth like that you have to wonder if she has any taste to begin with. I work close to downtown Holland and eat here frequently. My favorite sandwich is the St. Louis (not just because I from there!) but the sun dried tomato mayo is fantastic! Other sandwiches I really like there that I've tried are the Denver, the Dallas, the Cleveland (my second favorite), the Seattle, the San Francisco, and the Chicago. The tomato bisque soup is Great! The only sandwich I had that I did not care for was the Kansas. It was a Veggie option but it was so dry I couldn't eat it. When one of the girls (and she was NOT 14 years old) working there was cleaning tables she asked how my food was and I told her I didn't really care for the sandwich. She apologized and asked if they could make another sandwich for me, which I took them up on. The staff is super friendly. And as for the review that they had to wait so long at Tulip Time, um, during Tulip Time you have to wait wherever you go! Thousands of people are here from all over the country so expect a wait no matter where you are! I do not eat potato chips BUT the women I go with LOVE the salt and pepper potato chips that the sandwiches are served with. My husband and kids love the frozen yogurt bar. They have really great flavors and tons of toppings.

Food was great, but the line was long. The staff were all about 14 years old and didn't really understand service (patrons will needs napkins to eat, tables should be wiped down when cleared, etc.). Sandwiches are actually pretty good, but there are so many options downtown this isn't really a standout.

My wife and I were passing through Holland Michigan and decided to have lunch at the City Delicatessen. The staff was pleasant, the food was good, and we were able to sit outside without too many smokers ruining our meal.

Ordered the Chicago but swapped the horsey mayo for sundried tomato mayo. Excellent. He tried the Cadillac and that was great too! Very few other customers which was nice to bring a 3 year old to. Menu has tons of options and staff was super friendly. Would definitely come back even with all of the other options!

Great little sandwich shop in downtown!! staff is awesome - very friendly and helpful sandwiches are made to order with fresh ingredients, haven't tried the salads yet but they look just as delicious the decor isn't horrible but it isn't amazing...definitely doesn't have a very 'homey' feel - that being sad it is very clean, which is great!! **AWESOME place if you are vegetarian - my fiance is and we always struggle to find a place that has more then just one selection for him, this place has SEVERAL non meat eater friendly sandwiches, and they are good!!

Great place to stop in for a quick bite while shopping the downtown strip. Staff is super friendly and super helpful if you have questions about the menu. Superb salads, and the froyo bar is fantastic. Not a whole lot of options for toppings but still pretty good. The decor and seating is great, during the summer they have seating outside the front of the store, which is great to eat, drink, and people watch. In the winter, I'll sit at the bar top along the front window and people watch ;)

I don't know where to begin. I can't rate the food because I've waited my entire lunch hour for my food. Two times now, I've waited so long that I have had to ask for my money back and leave without food. The excuse, "we've been busy" makes me cringe. Yes, sweetie, the store I work at had been busy too which is why I need to be sure I don't go over my 1/2 hour. It's Holland and tourist season - figure it out! It's much better to be over staffed and insure that each customer gets prompt and efficient service. And, forget about trying to pre order because a human dos not answer the phone - you need to leave a message.

AWESOME place! The st Louis has a great flavor to it, and I love the kettle cooked potato chips, my favorite kind of chip. The waitress was very courteous and professional, and she let us have food even though they had just closed. All in all, a wonderful local spot with KICK ASS chicken and mushroom soup!

Their well organized menu is divided into hot and cold sandwiches making your first menu choice easy. I had the San Francisco panini with chicken, bacon and avocado along with a cup of their soup of the day, the Smokey Pablano Cheese Soup. The sandwich was delicious as was the Pablano soup which was similar to tortilla soup but more robust. Will definitely be back.

Stopped in today at lunchtime for a quick bite. Staff was really friendly and extremely helpful in explaining the menu options. My date and I both had sandwiches. I had the Cadillac and she had the San Francisco. Hands-down both sandwiches were welcome treats to our palates given we were both hungry. The ingredients tasted fresh and wholesome - always a welcome treat for the conscious consumer. Be sure to check them out next time you looking for a quick bite in downtown Holland. I know we will!
