About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. I know it's a chain but the servers are always great. The food is good and if you have an issue it's taken care of right away.

I used to frequent this Applebee's (as did MANY others) because it was a great environment, great food, and decently priced. Quit going after the buyout as the great staff all (most) changed and prices went though the roof. I'm terribly sorry for the poor review, but just thought maybe someone from Applebee's will read this and try better to be actually be the "neighborhood bar and grill" We saw the add in the paper for their happy hour which included "select appetizers" for only $3.00. A good price, AWESOME!! So we decided to try Applebee's again. Well that was deceiving... The apps were not full size apps so for $3 it was actually MORE EXPENSIVE than regularly priced apps. The ad said nothing about half sized apps so that was extremely disappointing, but not surprising based on our prior experiences since the new ownership took over a few years back. In addition, there were 2 bartenders that were both MIA for over 10 minutes while I sat with an empty glass. Both very nice people, but I would suggest either of the 2 managers that I saw might want to be sure there is someone behind the bar, or actually jump back there and take care of customers themselves is the bartender(s) can't do it. I can honestly speak for numerous Hollanders when I say your bar used to be PACKED every night of the week because of the great service and decent prices. As an example... We used to stop in Sunday evenings and there would be 5-10 people who had to stand at the bar as there were so many "regulars" there patronizing your establishment. My wife & I stopped one Sunday last summer and were literally the only 2 people at the bar for 2 hours. All of that being said, I know it's Applebee's so you couldn't care less since you're making millions, but figured someone should know that ever since the buyout this place has a not-so-great reputation for being over priced and underperforming. That was reaffirmed when I stopped in on Friday.

Couldn't pay me to eat here again. My husband is a fan of a dish at Applebee's, so to humor him we would order food to go and take it home for a movie night once in a blue moon. The past three times that we have ordered, I have ordered the steak and Parmesan shrimp dish as this is something I do not make at home due to my families resistance to shrimp or any kind of sauce on their steak. EVERY time I order it as medium rare. Every time it comes to me as well cooked as it can be without becoming charcoal. It is hard and extremely chewy. Ruins the whole dish for me that I just spent over $15 dollars on. Every time when ordering I specifically request that the steak not be over cooked to no avail. I know it's not that huge of a deal to get a mediocre meal for under $20, but these occasions were the only nights in months that we didn't have kids and could relax and eat in front of the tv. Parents know what I'm talking about. You want to enjoy your meal! Well, after getting it again recently, I have vowed to never go back. Again, over cooked and unflavored. And to top it off? It had two pieces of hair in it. That grossed me out to the point that I wouldn't even go there to drink with my group of friends anymore after our third twelve hour shifts for the week. We completely switched restaurants all together. They have also had issues with the food but after hearing about me biting into my mashed potatoes to have a piece of someone else's hair sticking out of my mouth (and it was super long), they opted to quit eating there as well. My husband called to complain about the meal and got nowhere. He was told they could remake it for me and he could come back and get it. Nope. Not wasting gas on driving all of the way back over there from Butternut and Lakeshore for another over cooked steak. I just wanted my meal credited back to my credit card and was refused. I wasn't asking for the world. Just to not have to pay for a meal that I couldn't eat due to hygiene. No thanks.

Went there for dinner with my husband, husband ordered a beer. Waitress checked his ID, got the manager to check his ID, and then got another person to check his ID...seriously. I asked them what the problem was, because they kept staring at his face. "Oh, we're just making sure." Okay...they got all the diners to look at us. We up and left. Horrible!

Your average from the microwave to your table chain restaurant food. Nothing special or great to speak of. Their one strength is that they handle large groups well even late.
(2)Jay S.
I have not really been an Applebee's fan during the years but have always found it comfortable and dependable. Happened to be in Holland on 5/9 after getting caught in the thunderstorm am it was the perfect place to be. The food was great and the service was better. The hostess was so polite and helpful and our waitress provided service like we were in a way upscale restaurant. We could not have been more pleased with our experience that night. Kudos to the staff.
(4)Sean M.
just ok with me. Stopped on the way back from a hockey game today. I had the Fiesta Chicken roll-up and my wife had the Cheeseburger sliders which are good. Waitress forgot to offer gift cards so we get a free Burger on the next visit..

Worst service by Dom. Definitely asking for different waiter. Or just going to IHOP across the parking lot We were extremely polite to him too he never even asked how our meal was we had to ask for refils on our drink as well
(1)Barbara D.
Ordered an appetizer from the bar area of Applebee's and it only had four wings we also ordered the Monday hamburger special for 5.99. Mine was underdone and my husbands was overdone We usually have good food so I am thinking this may only be an off night
(3)Taylor E.
Food was alright. Nothing special. Service was pretty good, but there are def plenty of other places I will go to before going here again. Their spinach artichoke dip tasted like it was heated up in a microwave.
(2)Stephanie O.
I came here with a friend for dinner and when we walked in the hostess was very kind, when she seated us and our waitress came and asked what we wanted to drink. She didn't even know the drink menu. Then she asked if we were here for the half off appetizers and she was being rude and pointed to to the menu acting like we have been here plenty of times. When we ordered our food she was wasn't being very kind about what we wanted. Poor service over all. They need people that know what they are doing and aren't so rude.

I'm a vegan (fml) so when i went here with a group the other night i wasn't looking forward to the normal Applebee's vegan friendly option... side salad no cheese, croutons, or bacon. I jokingly mentioned this to my server who mentioned it to his vegan manager, she came by our table greeted us and gave me suggestion of veggie fajitas... My mind was blown and she completely changed my entire Applebee's experience. Thx again ;)
(5)James K.
Awful service sat looking at wait staff doing nothing while my drink was empty and we were done eating for over 15 minutes. Go elsewhere!!!!
(1)John B.
Another hectic stop at Applebee's during lunch hour. The staff is better when it is not do packed but what do you expect from Kids. There food is scripted and that's ok, at least it's cooked well and taste is fine.
(4)Philip M.
If it weren't for the half off appetizers after 9pm (Sun-Th) I don't think I would come here as often as I do. Franchise food, yes. But it's a corporation, what can you expect? A successful one at that! Food is fine, really. The service is really good. The servers will usually remember our faces and some even what we usually order! The music in there can sometimes get little loud but otherwise we like it... oh, and one more thing: BRING BACK THE YELLOW QUESO! The white spicy stuff is stupid. Go Grilled Chicken Quesadillas (hold the bacon please)!
(4)Mike T.
Tasteless franchise food. Forget this place.
(1)Lynn O.
Applebee's has fallen off their horse. They used to be a family style restaurant that sold alcoholic beverages. Now they are trying to be an alcoholic beverage trying to persuade people that they also have food. The food quality has diminished over the years and is not worth the price paid.
(1)Tracie P.
Do not be deceived by the "$3.00 apps" The new happy hour special is just a tiny version of their regulars. 2 PRETZELS!!! Seriously they need to say this a happy hour sized portion. Applebee's has priced themselves out of our market.
