We ate at Richie's twice during our recent visit to Hastings. This is a place that I used to frequent when I lived and worked in Hastings. I had pleasant memories and was disappointed when we were here for this visit. Why did we eat there twice, we chose the place once and we met family there the second time. The food was decent diner food and in reality we can't complain about that. The level of service was well above average. The restaurant itself was not as clean as it should be and the restroom was atrocious. I am giving a rating of 3 stars as much for sentimental reasons as I am for the quality of the food.

Ok, here's the deal.... "Little" Richie's has been one of my favorite diners in Hastings, MI since 1982 or 1983. Every time I am in Hastings I LOVE me some "Little" Richie's. My favorites are the half order of the biscuits and gravy, a ham and cheese omelette, and the HUGE lumberjack style pancakes. I almost always get the breakfast, even if it is in the afternoon, but they have amazing burgers as well. Anyways, since this year I have noticed several problems or red flags. Today's episode makes me NEVER want to go back again, and I am heart broken. I had eaten with my family and my GF dozens and dozens of times with mostly happy results. Today's encounter had us waiting for about 25 minutes or so for our order. In a little place like Richie's it is easy to notice when people arrive, order and when their order arrives. Especially when they arrive 5 or 10 minutes before you and are eating their meals while you are waiting..... At 25 minutes we asked our server about our order. I saw her go to the line and inquire about our order. Then I saw her write something on a ticket and hand it to the kitchen. This is never a good sign. The last 3 out of 5 visits (including todays visit) the kitchen lost our order. I can understand losing orders or tickets when you don't have a computer system, but 3 out of 5 visits? That is unacceptable. So another 10 minutes go by and I had witnessed at least half a dozen orders come and go out of the window, but not our order. Again I asked about our order and our waitress apologized profusely and verified my prediction that they had lost our order, again. I saw another couple orders go out of the window. Then I saw the line cook giving our server attitude and yelling at her. She looked like she was going to cry, and all she was trying to do was get our order served to us. Witnessing the line cook yelling and badgering the poor waitress was more than Linette and I could take, so we left. The moron had still not even started our orders----at least 15 minutes after they determined they had lost our order---and instead of getting our order the next freaking thing out of the window, he continued yelling at our server. He was still yelling at her and waving his hands like a madman when we approached the counter and told the line cook not to bother starting our order. I handed our server $10 because I felt bad for her and the way this cook was yelling at her. My family has eaten at "Little" Richie's since the early 1980's and I will never go back. I have seen a lot of servers grow up, have kids of their own, and seen their kids grow to adults in the years I have been eating there. I had many wonderful memories about eating breakfast there with my father when he was alive and having a great time with the staff. Seeing a line cook yelling at a waitress is never acceptable.

If your looking for a good greasy spoon this is it. Good food, breakfast served all day. Big down fall is they only take cash or check. There is an ATM located on site with only a dollar charge though. Service is also good. Not always the cleanest place.

Amazing breakfast or lunch faster than fast food. The quality is top notch, always consistent. The staff is great. I just wish the coffee cups were bigger.

Overall a good place for a light lunch/dinner; tasty burger & shake. Not a good place for the "germaphobe" it could use a good deep cleaning and updating. The service was a lil on the "home town" side - meaning in no big hurry! Reasonably priced tho!

OVER RATED!!! Decent diner food. Second rate service. Filthy floors and bathrooms. And they don't take cards. They point you to an ATM next to the counter so you can pay them to get your own money so you can pay them again for your bill. Go to Phil's Galley around the corner, much better place all around

Well, I miss the Richie's that was back in Freeport, but this location doesn't disappoint. My mom loves their olive burger, and I'm always a fan of the farmers omelet. Best malts I've ever had. The place could use a deep clean, but it's not at all disgusting in there. It's an old town diner and the atmosphere reflects it. I can't wait to come back home and go again for breakfast.

We stopped in for a coffee and decided to try one if the burgers; the "ground fresh daily"sounded enticing. It took ten minutes to get a coffee, and we continued to wait for the burger. The cook told the waitress that he was going out ti feed his addiction (for a smoke). The waitress said,"What about the burger on the grill." The cook turned around to the grill as if it was an afterthought, and said, "I'll just take it off [the grill]." We thanked the waitress and left without waiting for the cook to come back. This waitress was the onky staff to even make eye contact; she was not the one at fault. There are definitely better places to eat in Hastings.

Breakfast was good. Service was great. The place could use some deep cleaning, but that is somewhat expected in a greasy spoon. The best part was the $20 check for 7 people! I think someone may have added wrong.

One of the best hamburgers I've ever had. Richies grinds their own meat every day. Very fresh and very tasty. Great fries, and good think milkshakes. Now this is an old town greasy spoon. Don't expect low calorie, fancy side dishes or pretty garnishes. This is simply exceptional diner food.

Richies is just one of those institutions that I have to go to when I come back into Hastings. The service is always friendly and quick with the orders. Classic diner food and the prices are still out if the 90's. Love this place!
