Typical sports bar - too smoky to be considered a family restaurant.

Love the atmosphere. Only place in Lansing that makes me feel at home with beach decor. Yummy food & good service, but the inside/outside seating is the best. I even bought one of their hoodies because it was so cute, soft, & warm. We got a couple cocktails that were pretty sweet, but good nonetheless.

Tons of beers on tap. It's not a five star restaurant but it's better than average food. I've been going here for years and never had issues with food or drinks....maybe people on here are a little too picky?? If you're looking for a good place to eat and grab a couple drinks there's no doubt Blue Gill is the place.

Crummy food and slow slooww (although friendly) service at lunch hour when no one was around. Seems like a better atmosphere for beer and an appetizer rather than meals... The rooftop seating looked cool. My salad tasted like chemicals... just unwashed ice berg lettuce out of a bag and drenched canned fruit topped with a square of compressed salmon. $13 bucks for a plate of dirty toxins and no flavor, no thanks.

Stars for decent atmosphere but the steak wasn't cooked well. Their burger tasted ok. I would say the only thing I liked about the place was the atmosphere. I really wanted to like the place more and I wish the food was good. If your in that area I would suggest the Mayfair Bar right next door for better food. If you just want to hang out in a somewhat cool atmosphere and have a few drinks maybe go to Bluegill.

I've been thinking about going to this place for a long time. I should've look at the yelp reviews before I ate. The other reviews were spot on. I plan on going back but only to drink, maybe get something fried to soak up the alcohol. The food and service on a scale of one to ten was a 4. We sat at the bar and ordered our drinks. They forgot them until our food showed up, and at the end of the meal they still charged us for the coke. She could only drink it for 5 min. Her club wrap was in a pita shell. It was good but what the hell. My burger was ok. But still over cooked and a soggy bun. The slaw you get with the meal is homemade but the prob is their recipe isn't any good. If you go here just drink. Good drink selections and ice cold beer.

We started the meal off with a smoked salmon appetizer. For $10 I expected more than 6 pieces of very fishy tasting salmon. Yes I know it's fish but this did NOT taste good at all.9 year old sons steak tasted like it was cooked over lighter fluid. My wife had the cod dinner and I had the walleye dinner. Both dinners fish was very bland. I had two beers and my son had a pop. Total bill was $55. Will definitely NOT be going back. P.S. My sons second meal was chicken patties that were frozen. Oh and the fries are frozen also.

The wait staff was nice and the live music was good, but our food was terrible! The spin dip sucks and our fries tasted like the oil hadn't been changed in months. Really disappointing restaurant experience, don't spend your money.

My husband and I have decided that this place is only worth going to in the summer and fall because of their new thirsty perch. The rooftop menu and atmosphere is a great place to meet for drinks and for live music. It's just something different in the Haslett area. However, the food downstairs truly is disappointing. When I order a Philly Cheese Steak Calzone, I don't expect it to be covered in marinara and tomato sauce. It tasted like a soggy pizza. The cheesey crab dip is good but that's about it.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere to watch a game on a Saturday. You can either be rooftop or in the bar area that has open garage doors. Food has never disappointed either. Ms Pacman never hurts either.

Still love their BBQ Chicken.. but I'm pretty convinced it's the only thing they have to offer me. I've tried 3 or 4 new things in my recent visits, and it's all been pretty lame. The ingredients have been going down-hill. By ingredients I mean: anything fresh here.. is probably not fresh. You guys are slipping.

Great concept but food is disappointing, especially for the price!

Great atmosphere and bar scene. Very average food. Good pricing. Good Service. Really like the Blue Gill Grill for drinks and cocktails. The roof top bar is very cool. Great views of the park and the lake. TV's and bar make it a really neat place to enjoy a drink. The rest of the place it pretty cool as well. Nice bar. A little bit of everything. The food is underwhelming. I guess for bar fare, it is not bad. But as a sit down restaurant seems to be nothing more than a Sysco/GFS style cousine. Good service. Prices are very affordable. Overall, fun place.

The location alone gets The Blue Gill Grill and the Thirsty Perch (their rooftop bar) the most points. It is one of only a couple places in the Greater Lansing area with a view of water! That being said, it could be a great place, but they are so good at just being mediocre. The menu is mostly fried bar food and the rooftop menu is separate and even more limited. Some of the servers are very nice, and others can be really unpleasant. The Blackened Grouper Tacos are quite good. And the draft beer selection is decent. So we'll be back, since it's our neighborhood place, but I wish they would shift gears and move from mediocre to marvelous.

The Blue Gill is great local hangout as well as if you're passing through. The burgers, pizza, calzones and salads are great! Service has always been great for me as well. Plenty of TV's to watch the game and many selections of brew to drink with your dinner. I haven't sampled the fish but I've heard it's good. Give it a try! I'm sure you'll be happy!

Nice atmosphere but the food quality and portions have really diminished with the price remaining the same. Ordered a salmon special and it looked like about 4 oz of fish with about 6 pieces of frozen veggies next to it for $14. The burgers look smaller too and the quality has really slacked off. Not going back.

As befitting a place called the Blue Gill Grill.. their fish is pretty good. We enjoy the grouper sandwiches but I'd avoid the fried scallops. Way too much fry, not a whole lotta scallops. It's not off the beaten path for me, it's literally right around the corner. Their food is good, their servers are generally cute and eager to please. You won't get a home run meal here but you won't be disappointed either.

This was my dad's favorite place to take me out to eat during my time at Michigan State. It's a little off the beaten path, but the food is great and the service is timely. I've only been during the day, so I can't say I've experienced much of their bar, but I do know they have Killian's. The pizzas and nachos are especially delicious!

I enjoy going to Blue Gill. The servers are friendly (although often slowly-paced), the atmosphere is funny and cozy, and the new decor is fun. The menu, however, could use some revamping. I know its a bar but there could be some more items, other than salad, that aren't deep-fried. It is a difficult place to pick to eat when you are trying to be healthy.

Classier than your average sports bar, Blue Gill is consistently immaculate right down to the bathrooms. A substantial drive from MSU campus, it draws in the older, not-so-rough-around-the-edges clientele. Blue Gill serves your typical snacky bar fare - nachos, pizza, chicken fingers, but also specializes in reasonably priced fish and seafood entrees. The full bar, with taps and amazing glass-enclosed bottled beer selection, appeals to all alcoholic palates. The friendly, competent service is much appreciated. Its spacious location is divided into areas for dining booths, live music observation, rail, and bar games. The facility entertains with all of your favorite competitive sports from pool to darts to arcade. Play trivia against your friends and barmates with NTN. Hours of cheap fun. My recommendation: Pizza is incredible. I've always done the simple build-yer-own with pepperoni. Not skimping on the toppings, the little meat circles are crisp-edy, crunch-edy along the edges like they took the time to fry 'em up before pizza baking. Yum! Shuts the ravenous men up with its cheesy, spicy goodness in no time. Never fails.

The chicken caesar wrap is delicious! Grilled chicken, lettuce, dressing, and parmesan cheese in a grilled wrap, yummy! I think they have specials every night of the week and the servers are always pleasant. I wish they would expand/change their menu every so often...and more fries/less coleslaw as side items.

We went there for the first time last night. My wife went with the Blue Gills since that was what the place was named, and I got the Pecan Coated Trout (on pasta and covered with veggies). Both were excellent. We had them with Linenkugel's Summer Shandy on tap. The staff were very friendly, and the service was great. The atmosphere felt like we were up north someplace. Customers seemed to know each other and the staff. I generally don't like sports bars and we sat well away from the TV screens. The sound was turned off and the screens were high so it felt more like a restaurant than a sports bar.

Food is good but drinks are tiny and weak compared to the two others bars on this corner. The reason for the two stars is that this place seems to believe they are an establishment on Ocean Beach in California as opposed to up the street from a lake in Lansing. The service is awful and outright rude with the younger staff members. I ordered a build your own burger without coleslaw on the side and I repeated my order back to the waitress to make sure I ordered it right in the first place, and she said "yeah, exactly what you told me the first time". I felt bad as I was merely making sure they held tomato, onions, and cole slaw, but turned to being ticked off when I got cole slaw served in a dish that covered a good portion of my burger and fries. I separated the parts that I didn't want to eat and the burger was actually good...for what I could eat. This comes off a visit where we sat on the roof deck one day and the bartenders were awful and dismissive. No one asks how your food was or if they can grab you anything, and on today's occasion, multiple people had to walk up to the bar to ask for their tab when it was half-full at best. Also, if you sit on the roof deck, random menu items are somehow unavailable to order up there although all the food comes from the same menu and the same kitchen! If this place had somewhat decent servers/bartenders, they would be a five star in my book to go along with the food quality. Go to the Watershed instead for food and drinks.

This is a great location, close to Lake Lansing, and the staff is friendly so if you just want to drink it's great. If you want food, forget about it. I ordered the Ultimate Nachos since it was described as being made with homemade chips. Not so much. They were the cheap red, white and blue chips, yuck. My husband ordered the wings that were on special. They were so over done he said it was like eating chicken jerkey. The kids meal came with boxed mac n cheese and canned peaches. Really?!?! Once again, this is not the location of you are looking for a decent meal. If you're going to drink here, I'd probably stick to the stuff in bottles.

I was really hoping for a nice local treat. I was disappointed! We shared the finger appetizer. The chicken was rubbery-how do you mess up frozen chicken fingers! The cheese logs were burnt and the mushrooms were just nasty. The beer was good (foamy but good). The place was packed so I guess they don't care because the locals will go no matter what. They could have such a gem here.

We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday only one other couple dining and another group arrived shortly after us in the dining area. Not busy at all and the food arrived cold. My dining companions ate their food (they were very hungry), sent my order back and I refused a replacement as I felt the same thing would happen. Waitress was very sorry but management never came over or offered to pay for my drink (meal was taken off the bill). I guess to me if someone isn't happy take the bullet and apologize, don't let the waitress take the hit.

This is the nicest of the three lake Lansing bars in terms of layout and decor.... But the food is generally the wost. Menu needs to be updated. Service is a bit spotty. Upstairs rooftop bar is real nice in the summer. But the menu is even more limited upsrairs.

Good food, crappy service. Waited 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Only took my drink order, server left bought my drink back with another one for my husband that of course he did not order. I wanted to order a drink after dinner but sever never came by. This may sound petty but it's not like we went for fast food, when I'm paying this kinda money we should at least leave happy.

Summer sports bar/restaurant. Nice atmosphere with a deck and plenty of seating. Decent craft beer selection and many screens for caching a game. Seems to be the nicest place in the small town of Haslett. Prices were a bit high for the food quality that was sub par. I tried the mozzarella sticks and shrimp appetizers with some drinks and it was $40. Overall it was a decent experience and pleasant enough place, but the dinning quality makes it a drinking stop primarily.

The owners are truly horrible, one screams at workers in front of patrons while the other one harasses people who park in the parking lot. The food is horrible but the drinks are ok. The staff is very friendly for the exception of the owners. Would be a cool environment if the owners were nicer to there employees and the guests WHO PAY THEM MONEY TO BE THERE..

Nice place to visit on a weekend afternoon in the summer -- even the downstairs feels like a patio but without the sun beating down on you when the overhead doors are open. Decent craft beer selection and slightly better than average bar food. I like the blackened fish tacos for a not-too-greasy Sunday lunch. Lots of TVs to watch the games and fairly friendly servers. But for outdoor feel this would be just another bar/restaurant. In other words, go in the summer.

a local favorite off the beaten path, across from the Lake Lansing Park in Haslett (corner of Lake Lansing and Marsh Rds). decent prices, good service, friendly faces, older crowd, good food. family oriented restaurant by day (which is when we visited), sports bar by night. they have probably seven large screen TVs and a few smaller ones around. They will change the channel for you if you ask (most places won't anymore), even if it is something funny like the cartoon network or TLC. haha. they seem to have everything that everyone else does on the menu. their specials are off menu (they had a penne pasta on special when we visited, which was not something available on the normal menu). as you would expect, they lean towards the seafood section on their menu, but they have a large selection of sandwiches, grinders, burgers, and the like too. good stuff. overall 4 stars.

This is a cut above your average "Local Yokal" sports bar. They have quite a few Tv's, large beers and their pizza is great. During the week, this place is full of families & sports watchers. On the weekend they try to be a bar with DJ, etc. Either way, it is one of the best options in the Haslett area as either a bar or a reataurant. If you are looking to escape the East Lansing scene, you might want to give it a try.

The food is decent, and its a nice place and all but the thing that makes this place better then all the other restaurants in michigan is the incredibly attractive hostesses. These hostesses are grade A dimes! no joke. They also always seat you at the perfect locations and are just extremely friendly. Worth going just to see them
