Always friendly! This is the main selling point of this little diner. I have never in my life seen more warm hearted and friendly people than the two brothers that operate this business. The food is good enough and the prices are lower than the vast majority of other(already cheap) coney islands. It is very rustic but kept clean and it works great for them. You'll see the same regulars in there every morning, just like Cheers. It closes kind of early at 3 p.m. I believe so you're only getting breakfast or lunch but their omelets are wonderful and they actually grill the contents of the omelet instead of just throwing it in the eggs. Best breakfast in Hamtramck!

Ready for a pure Hamtramck experience? You're gonna find it at the Hamtramck Coney. Not only do some of the city's weirdos come out for food here regularly (Tex, Fabiszak, etc.) but the wall is adorned with an Orlowski mural and the prices are hamtramck-appropriate. Not that regular folks don't come here too- they certainly do for lunches and hungover breakfasts (because they close pretty early). Comparison of this coney to many others is folly- the menu might look the same but they are not the same, at all. The fare you might receive at L. George's down the street is of a different quality and a more standard atmosphere and fry cook environment. Coffee will come to you in a styrofoam cup. Always. They will ask you if you want cream, and pour it behind the counter. I like this. The waitresses are usually very nice, although they do have a lot of staff turnover. I am not going to speculate on this, though I have heard lots of rumors. Breakfast menu is simple and good, this is where the HCI shines. I recommend the french toast and the gyro omelette which comes with gyro meat, tomato, and cheese (sans onion). They come with a good portion of hash browns or grits (nice) and toast. The lunch menu is also good. I had a perfect coney here. Not perfect as in high quality, but in the composition of low quality ingredients. Cheap hot dog (no snap, no natural casing here) cheap bun, cheap chili, fresh white onion and squirts of yellow mustard. I really can't say enough good things about it. Other than that, the burgers are decent, albeit probably frozen patties. They are better than the burgers at Maine Street, which can be sad. The chili burger is a thing to behold, especially when recovering from a night out on the hamtown. It fits the bill for a Coney Island (sort of), it comes with a cheap price tag, and it has its own unique charm. Eat here!

Hamtramck boast somewhere in the neighborhood of about 8 coney islands in just 2 square miles. Maine Street Grille is the best overall but I classify it as a diner. Hamtramck Coney is the best coney and is right in the heart of town. Owned by two of the hardest working brothers you will ever meet, Al and his bro plate good coneys at respectable prices. Hot dogs are grilled and have that snap and the chili is said to be National brand. Omelets are always done right. I like the chili and cheese omelet with fries instead of hash browns. Hours are limited to 8-3 on most days so no late or early coneys. Prices are not the cheapest but in the area price range. Sit at the counter like a regular or grab a booth for table service. This location has history. It was formally an Onasis Coney Island.

Y'know, I can actually remember taking a friend to this place since he was starving and didn't have breakfast. I really wanted to take a trip to my fav city and show him around. But first we stopped here. Man, was it crazy loud. People were shouting all around us. Not surprising. I didn't mind it much but what do you expect from a small diner like this. We both ordered from the breakfast menu and had a pretty good meal. Nothing special, but not bad. And then of course we went to Detroit Threads nearby. One of the many places to go to when you're in town. Either way, win, win situation.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've lived about two blocks away from Hamtramck Coney for a year and a half now, and only just now gave it a shot. The atmosphere is...perfect. wood paneling, clean but shabby/dated decor, a hockey game on tv, a group of old men arguing, a token police officer sitting at the counter, and an owner who knows everyone's name. I had the double decker grilled cheese with fries and....a Vernors! Fountain Vernors is one of the greatest things about being a Detroiter, and I'm always pleased to find a place that serves it. The grilled cheese and fries were perfectly prepared, though I was disappointed that it didn't come with a pickle. The price was right, with the total bill for my dining companion (who had the same thing I did) and I coming to right around twelve dollars. I also vastly appreciated the bottle of Red Hot that comes standard on every table. I look forward to returning.

Whenever I want a quick eat, this is my choice. It is in the heart of downtown Hamtramck. So, naturally, it is rife with the usual suspects of the area. (It's like entertainment without having to pay for a ticket!) The food is fast and they *make it to the way you like it. *Although, I could have done without the funny look from the waitress when I ordered a mushroom omelette without cheese, no hash browns and a water with no ice. I guess trying to eat healthy there isn't usually attempted. After loading up my pics of their window, I noticed that I will have to repay them a visit and let them know about the missing appendage.

Yet another Coney that does the typical Coney affair. Not surprisingly, this Coney in particular has the tastiest sausage dishes around. Don't expect an omelette here like the one you get at National. This one's made with Hamtramck sausage and beats the pants off of anything from the burbs! Everything else is comparable though. Actually, some of the things I've had here that are grilled (chicken sandwich, burger, and the like) are a little on the greasy side. If that doesn't bother you, awesome. If you've got a sensitive stomach, this may not be the place for you - go up Joseph Campau to the Clock or Maine Street. My belly has gurgled more than once from the food here. But I like having lunch downtown, so why not? It's not a far walk, and it's definitely a great place for people watching.

The things I love about this place is that it's owned by a hard-working area family. They also own Sweet Marlena's ice cream shop around the corner. The food at Hamtramck Coney is delicious and I don't even care that it's not healthy at all. Also, it's fast! I would say that more than 50% of the time I try to go here, they are closed. They really are a breakfast or lunch place and that's it. Also, the clientel can be a bit shady. Last time I was there the person behind me was talking loudly and swore about 200 times in my 30 minute visit (not kidding).

I liked this place a lot, mostly for the great bad menus with the pixellated palm trees. Other than that pretty much everything you'd expect from a coney in Hamtramck.
