Wonderful little gem in town. Stopped in whole traveling and celebrating my daughter's birthday. The staff was very helpful and the baked goods were delicious. Pasties and lunch fare available too. Definitely worth a stop when you're in Grayling.

Best cookies in Michigan! Donuts are very good as well. Always feels like a small town mtg spot. We stop every year on the way to Traverse City!

Yeah I don't know.... I really did not see it here in this bakery. I bought a "cream cheese rich coffee cake" for $ 7.59. It is really a chocolate pan cake with a bunch of gaggy rich too sweet frosting I noticed that they have "Albie's" pasties..... where am I, Traverse City ? Albie's is all preservatives and garbage. If you want to serve great pasties, you have to make them fresh. I ate one slice of the coffee cake and the rest was thrown out....

Without a doubt my favorite bakery in Michigan. Be careful, gets busy on the weekends early in the morning. Don't be afraid to approach the counter for service otherwise you will be standing around. We haven't ventured to far from an occasional doughnut, kind of hard to when they are so delicious. Their other items look good.

You can be pretty sure a place is good when the locals stream in and are greeted by name. This is the kind of place Goodale's Bakery is. I can't attest to the sweets, although they sure smelled good. But the chicken pasty with gravy was delectable, with a tender, flaky crust, and a filling containing plenty of identifiable and taste-able veggies along with the chicken.

Two stars because the donuts are good. Went for lunch and we had a few different items. Mac & cheese- kids liked. Beef pastrie was ok but cold and definitely not homemade gravy. Chili dogs were not good. Would go for donuts again, but that's it.

While we were checking out Grayling and what it had to offer, we caught eye of Goodale's and saw numerous people going in. I'm all for pastries and goodies, so I followed suit. Some of the shelved items seemed pricey, but maybe that's just me. ($5 for six cookies) Anyway, they had a nice variety of items. We ended up getting a couple of Danish elephant ears, a cherry turnover, a long john and an almond paste bar. I didn't hear complaints from my son about the long john. The almond bar was okay, but not enough filling. My cherry turnover was pretty tasty and had a decent amount of filling. The elephant ears were crisp and sugary. The staff person that waited on us didn't seem too friendly. I don't think she broke so much as even a slight smile. From our viewpoint, it wasn't anything to die for, or outstanding, or amazing or one of those places we MUST get back to every time we get close to it. It was an average bakery. We've definitely had better elsewhere.

This is the best bakery one could find tucked away in a small town caught in another time period. The donuts are fresh, innovative, delicious and worth driving out of your way to get. Goodale's is much more than a donut shop. They have fudge, a deli, a catering service and the list goes on. A must see and taste if driving near or thru Grayling, MI.

Thank you yelp! I needed a last minute birthday cake (yes I'm a horrible husband) but we were in rural Michigan during my time of need. A quick google of "grayling, bakery" only gave me one result and it was good. Real real good. With only a day's notice I was provided a perfect vanilla cake with custom messaging, but also during my pickup I grabbed a couple of different flavors or white bread (english muffin and "hearth" which was chewy and wonderful) as well as some DELICIOUS doughnuts. Service was remarkably helpful and friendly, but the food was also solid. Atmosphere was seriously old school, and the coffee shop area was filled with amazing Grayling old timey locals. Highly recommended! For what it is, and where it is, Goodale's Bakery is perfect.

Had a great sandwich there this afternoon. They cut the meat and cheese right in front of you. Very friendly staff and the sweets are awesome. I bought a cherry coffee cake and that was awesome also. Always go when I'm home.

Stood around for 10 minutes trying to get helped. Asked 3 different people how to get a sandwich and each said someone else would help me. Gave up and took my group of 8 people somewhere else... somewhere that wants to take my money from me. So, unfortunately I can't vouch for the food, but the service is terrible. Bakery was cluttered and not clean with flies all over the place.

Goodale's is an awesome treat! My family and I stopped there for the first time and discovered a HUGE counter full of different donut options. We even were informed that if they don't have one ready with the filling you want, they can make it for you when you order. My mom and I both got cinnamon-sugar varieties and had intended to share them, but by the time my dad got back with his coffee (maybe 90 seconds), our donuts were gone. You can get coffee in a mug to stay, which is a nice option, too. When we went, there seemed to be a lot of regulars enjoying their morning coffee and newspaper. I'm docking one star because I think they could make better coffee. That aside, this place is still very worth your time.

This is a fabulous bakery, probably the best in Northern Michigan. The offer lots of reasonably priced baked goods, (sweet rolls, doughnuts, cookies, bread, coffee cakes, etc.) as well as pasties with gravy and other lunch fare. Looks like locals and tourists come here; sometimes there are groups of servicemen from the military base nearby. The owners are friendly and talkative and even slipped an extra doughnut in the bag. Best of all they are open until 8 PM on Friday. Some local teenager needs to create them a website. Please, help them out. Maybe you can barter and get some doughnuts and cookies in exchange.

Best donuts in the North! Worth the trip from where ever you're coming from. Goodale's has a pretty big selection of fresh donuts, breads, sweets, and pasties...and the coffee is always fresh and hot!

Very local place. We had lunch and bakery goods. All were fine but certainly not outstanding. Tuna was chunk light and mayo, turnovers were filled with pie filling, etc. Prices were very reasonable.

Goodale's food was just as good as I'd read. We had the hot lunch and an "elephant ear" type donut/pastry. I also bought a pumpkin roll that was outstanding. I wish I lived closer!

Only place to get good baked goodies in my opinion. prices are a little high but I'll keep paying them.

Yes, this place is out of the way. Most likely, way out of the way for most of you. Yet, Goodale's Bakery has some of the best bake goods I've ever tasted. A trip up to Northern Michigan was not complete unless we stopped in Grayling to secure our dozen donuts (the Bavarian cream and the sour cream glazed are among my favorites). But you know why I really return to Goodale's at this time of year? Fruit cake. Yep, that's right: Goodale's Bakery makes the best fruit cake I've ever tasted. What I once thought was a culinary punchline has become a must have holiday staple thanks to this cozy, casual bake shop.

I took this place for granted when I lived here. Now that we only visit maybe once or twice a year, I like to stop at least once for the delicious, fresh donuts...something of a rarity where we live. I haven't had a bad donut yet. Definitely worth a visit or two!

Donuts! Bread! Fudge! Oh my! This is a great little hang out for the locals and the older generation of men and women living in the area. Boy do they have some stories to tell! When we stopped in for some donuts the guy at the counter informed us that we were in the presence of a centenarian and that the man was actually 102. He had been in several wars and still came in the place every single day for socialization. I thought that was very interesting! All the goodies are baked fresh and the place smells awesome. You don't have to just get pastry though, they also sell soups and lunch items. Nice place, good folks!

Goodale's donuts exceed almost every donut I've ever had. Over the course of two visits here I tried the sour cream, double chocolate, glazed blueberry, glazed cherry, glazed raised, and apple cinnamon. Every one was exceptional in flavor and in texture, with the sour cream being the major standout in the group. I also tried many of the cake donuts day old, and was impressed with how well they maintained their quality. Goodale's donuts are also an exceptional value. Each one costs just 60 cents, which seems insane when I consider that I've paid 4-5 times that for virtually inedible donuts in san francisco. 2 small criticisms/points of information: -No apple fritters. This would make me cry if the donuts weren't so incredibly delicious. As it is, I'm a little glad they don't have apple fritters because if they did, I'd have to order one and then I wouldn't get to eat as many of the other delicious flavors. Still, for an apple fritter enthusiast like myself, it's an important thing to know before you go! -These are not fancy-pants gourmet donuts. The textures and basic flavors are nonpareil, but the chocolate and cherry flavors are the sort of fakey chocolate and cherry flavors that belong in a donut. If you find this off-putting, stick to the more basic varieties.

I've been going to Goodale's for doughnuts for over 20 years with my family when we stay at our cabins on the Au Sable right outside town. The people are amazing and the doughnuts are unforgettable! Support the local community and definitely go there when you have a chance! You won't forget it!

What a little treasure! Have been driving thru Grayling for years and have notice the Kowalski's emblem but never the bakery. Thanks to my friends at yelp I have stumbled upon a new reason to travel from New Jersey to Michigan. An ol' time bakery like I remember as a kid in Hamtramck, MI but better! Of course we tried the sour cream that everyone was raving about and no wonder. But my favorite was the cherry filled! Didn't get any cherry pie while in Traverse City this trip and the cherry filled donut did the trick! But they will fill for you any of the variety of flavors they have so I will likely try raspberry next time. Unfortunately had not planned ahead or I would have had a cooler full of Kowalski's sausage to bring back to New Jersey but next trip watch out. Not that we should be promoting donut sales in general, but if you are going to have a donut, save the calories for Goodale's!!

I love this place, but the millennium is way gone, it's time to get a Website. All I need to know is what time you open in the morning. Put your facts out there. Help your customers. Turns out I'm going all the way to BoJacks in Mancelona. They tell me what's going on.
