I would rate this as 1.5 stars if I could. It is somewhat cool to "call in" your order over a phone, but only for the first time really. My mom and my grandma love this place. I've never tasted anything good there, even their shakes weren't that good, and I used to eat at a retirement home once daily, so it's not like I haven't had bland, plain food before. I do agree with Mike S. Unless you are at Taco Bell or Noodles and Company or McDonald's or they have told you not to tip, TIPPING IS REQUIRED.

OK food, and they recently updated the decor (slightly less drab than before). Definitely caters to an older crowd, though. Nice for a family meal or meeting an old friend.

Gotta love a place where you can place your order from a phone at your booth! This is my kids' favorite place to eat--they love the broccoli cheese soup. I would say the Rainbow Grill is similar to a Russ' or Big Boy. The food is nothing fancy but it's tasty and always comes quickly. The prices are also affordable and their desserts are good--especially the cream puffs. If you sit in the back half of the restaurant (separate entrance) you order your food by using the phone at your booth and the waitress just delivers it--so tipping is optional. You will find a lot of families and senior citizens eating here. :)

No joy and joyness here! We went to see what this ordering from a booth was. I wish we hadn't. The food was cafeteria quality, at best. Soaked in grease. The people who were working there seemed to be awfully depressed to be there. The food came out quickly, too quickly. Like it had been sitting around. And from a look of the green beans it had. We quickly left. But we made sure we left a tip.

I beg to disagree with Becky in that I do not believe tipping is optional here. The waitress brings your food, makes sure your order is right, gets your drinks... everything a waitress would do at Russ's, Denny's or Big Boy except writing your order down and turning it in to the kitchen. Don't fall into the typical West-Michigan-Cheapo mentality. Wait staff in any restaurant do not even make minimum wage. Not tipping them is not only poor etiquette, but you're hurting their livelihood in the process.

The good & friendly service raised the score a bit. I would give it a 3.5 if possible. The prices seem real reasonable for what you get. I tired the Frisco burger. It was alright with a generous portion including the fries. My friend loved her chicken strip meal that came with 4 good sized pieces. We also had the lemon meringue pie. It tasted nearly as good as it looks which is awesome. The atmosphere is basic hometown food joint with many regulars. This place has a loyal local following.

I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. We have been patrons for over 20 years. The telephone ordering is gone. Their prices are very reasonable and the wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. There is ample parking and the parking lot is usually packed.

They have updated the decor and they don't have phones in the booths anymore. You have to tip a waitress whether you order via phone or not. It's very clean and not too loud. It's located in downtown Grandville. It's a local favorite that has been around for decades. A second location is off the highway in Hudsonville. Excellent muffins! I recommend the bran muffins. They're large enough to share. I also like the pumpkin or coconut muffins. Yum! They serve a good breakfast. I think it's nice they serve breakfast much later (until 1?)in case you want to sleep in. Homemade soups. Good cream puffs for dessert. The restaurant is similar to Russ'. It has a casual atmosphere and seems to have an older clientele or at least is more low key and family friendly. Nothing really gourmet or fancy or unusual here. It's a good place for comfort food. I have fond memories of coming here for milkshakes and donut sundaes when I was a child! Closed Sundays. Low prices. Friendly managers.

Rainbow Grill is in the very heart of Grandville. It is an icon in the area. The food is very good, the portions are great. They have the best soups in West Michigan. For breakfast, it's the best way to start the day. The owners obviously are hands on and you can tell. The staff is always friendly. You will not be disappointed. Go there today and God Bless America!

I have a few friends who rave about this place so I gave it a try. I've been to worse places but I didn't like the food nor the atmosphere.
