So good! Had the cheese bread appetizer which came with a yummy marinara sauce! The have a sweet / spicy sauce you can get too, which we loved. Deluxe pizza, so good! Perfect for two! We both had a peach hard cider, not peachy at all, but so good! The alcohol hit me harder than usual, two had me swimming! My wife didn't care for the red sangria. We ate outside which was so much quieter than in doors. Expect a wait, 45 minutes at 8:30 on a Friday night. Reasonable prices, $40 for two plus tip. Close to home, we will be back!

Great beers and fun staff. 4 stars because I am not into baseball and the whole decor is baseball. I haven't tied the food but again, the beer are great. I'd recommend anything nitro! They have pizzas and other appetizers that you'd expect from a fun Westside bar.

We have back so many time since my original review I am embarrassed I haven't upped their rating earlier, so sorry Mitten! The Mitten has become our families favorite. Not only are their pizzas sublime (we always split the heater, yum!), their beers thirst quenching (Triple Crown Brown FTW!) but they are SO good with our kids. They never fail to make it clear that families are welcomed. One time in particular we went and one of the servers remembered my kids love of nature shows and went out of their way to try to find one on one of the tvs despite the Tigers game being on. Its this level of familiarity and attention to detail that makes the service at The mitten rise to the top.

There are just three words you need to be aware of if you're going to The Mitten Brewing Company: Hot.Dog.Pizza. I had no idea you could combine my two favorite foods into one, but they did and they did it WELL! This was stop nine on a brewery tour of Grand Rapids and I liked all the beers, but they didn't have any standouts of all the beers I tried on my trip. They were all fair, nothing offensive. I tried several stouts and nitros, and the Triple Crown Brown stuck out to me, being from Kentucky. The food was the real showstopper here. As mentioned, we had the hot dog pizza but also tried the cheese sticks and a supreme pizza. All were good, especially the doughy cheese sticks. Services was good, very quiet on a Friday morning at 11:30. Glad we chose to have lunch here!

I love the baseball vibe of the place, the beer is quality, and the options on the menu (gluten free AND vegan options) are top notch. I wish I lived nearby.

Great place and had a local feel to it. The pizza was excellent and the beer sampler is a must. Very pleased with experience and way above expectations.

This place is nice, it's an old firehouse station so they have the stripper pole, I'm sorry I mean fire pole lol still in service, it must b quite popular because this place was PACKED and alot of good beers. The hype to this place really lived up to its expectations but the wait time was a little long but the beer made it worth it. Didn't eat here but just drank as I usually do at a brewery. It is worth coming here again. If u r stout fan then try the Milk Stout. However they don't do growlers here but do sell pint glasses here.

The pizza is really good. I've had a few of the beers and they were good but I keep coming back for the pizza.

Definitely a must see if you're making the Grand Rapids beer circuit. Food was great. We ordered the "Cheesy Breadsticks" and a pizza. The breadsticks were essentially half a pizza with only cheese on them, but they were delicious. The pizza was great too - a very thin crust pizza however it had a wide outer crust that was adequately crunchy. My half was their "Da Meat Hook", which was good but I would probably order with less meat next time, and my wife had tomato and roasted garlic which tasted great as well. The beers were pretty good too - despite coming to GR for a mini beercation, I wasn't feeling well that day so I only had four flight pours. I had an oatmeal stout, a session IPA, a bigger IPA, and a maple pecan porter. All of the beers were good with no outstanding flaws. I would order a pint of each of these beers - which is generally my barometer when tasting beers. Best part of this place is the four ounce flight pours were only $1 each. Our entire bill was $24 or so. The only negative I have to say about this place was the service. Service was somewhat slow, though they were busy. We sat on the patio and though we saw our waitress a lot, she seemed to be overwhelmed. One more on staff waitress probably would have enabled much quicker service. Parking was an issue, but we lucked out and parked right in front of the brewery on the main street on our first time driving around the building looking for parking. The area round the place looked somewhat shady as well, so be cautious when parking your car in the neighborhood. Don't miss this place when you come to GR!

Phenomenal beer, pizza, and atmosphere. The patio was awesome and the staff was more than accommodating!

Nicest staff ever! Pizza was solid, beer selection diverse, but the bartenders & waitstaff were incredibly friendly & helpful. Perfect example of how the right staff can turn a good night/meal into a great one.

I had extremely high hopes for this place, unfortunately those hopes were not met. My girlfriend and I came here on a Saturday around 1pm. The place is quite smaller than I expected. We walked in and stood at the hostess station for nearly ten minutes before we were greeted. The reason for this became known because there were only two servers and one of them was acting as hostess as well. They do have a waiting area as you walk in, but there is also an area next to the bar that appears to be a standing and waiting area. This area is not used well at all and could easily be replaced with three or four more tables. The layout of the space is poorly used. I would recommend long tables and a bench style seating in the middle, with booths added on the sides, similar to Brewery Vivant. Because of the poor layout, from the time we walked in, until the time we walked out, there were at least four different groups waiting to be seated. When we finally got sat down, we each decided to get the raspberry cider. We are both cider lovers and their cider is ranked number two in my opinion, only behind Ace Pear Cider by the California Cider Co. We decidedly get one of the $24.99 pizza flights. The menu said this is enough to serve four. Between the two of us, this was just enough to satisfy. We decided to get the Margherita, Chiptole Barbeque, Field of Greens, Thai Cobb, Deluxe, and Hawiian. Unfortunately instead of the Margherita, our server gave us the Mediterranean, which was awful. Because of how busy it was, we decided not to make a fuss over it. Overall most of the pizza was good, but the size was just over a normal piece of pizza. Each one was roughly 5" by 5", not nearly enough to serve four people. A few of the pizzas were also lacking toppings. If we do decide to come back, which we probably will, it would be a better value for each of us to just get our own pizza. The price would be very similar, and based on the size of the pizzas that we saw at other tables, we would get nearly twice the pizza. Being huge baseball fans, especially of Detroit, we both loved the atmosphere and the ambiance. If this place would ask their patrons to wait in the actual waiting area, rearrange the layout to be more productive, and staff a few more people, I could see The Mitten Brewing Company being a regular stop for us.

Very cool baseball themed bar with a lot of vintage memorabilia on the walls and throughout the restaurant. Beer menu offers a nice variety of different styles - but the Pizza is absolutely awesome. Perfect place to have a few beers and grab a pizza any night of the week.

I arrived by bicycle, a little early, but I had several breweries to visit that day. The building is in fact a former firehouse, but has taken on the air of a neighborhood bar, in the best sense of that term. It occupies a corner quite sturdily, and the brickwork inside and out gives a neat and welcoming appearance: the kind of place that speaks of local flavor. There is a shaded bike rack on the side, and I believe even a small amount of outdoor seating, though the inside is so pleasant as not to be missed. I opened the day's tastings with their Relief Session IPA, an outstanding beer with nice balance and clean finish. The proprietors were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional, but also approachable and fun. I wish I had had more time to dedicate to tasting their excellent beers, and I hear they put a commensurate amount of effort and skill into their pizzas. I will be back to find out! I wholeheartedly recommend Mitten Brewing Company, and agree that it is a must-visit!

Checked this place out on a Friday night. It was busy and they had a band playing upstairs. For beers, I stuck to the rye baby, which was pretty tasty. Everyone was getting pizzas here and I understand why. I had a slice of pesto chicken and the Thai 'za. Overall, this is a pretty cool place, but the vibe is kindof like a place you would take your parents.

We stopped in for a pint and an appetizer when we had some time to kill before a wedding. As first timers, we were expecting a bigger establishment but it was sufficient for the amount of people. The pizza looked and smelled delicious but we decided to give the beer cheese a try since we didn't have much time. My boyfriend ordered the Black Betsey coffee stout and I had the cherry hard cider. He said the coffee flavor was strong in the beer and he would order it again. My cider was fruity and sweet, but didn't have much of a cherry flavor. Our appetizer took almost 20 minutes to arrive which was strange considering not there were only maybe 3-4 other parties in there and the beer cheese required very little preparation. The beer cheese was served cold, but with hot, grilled toast points. The beer cheese would have been better warm, but the toast points warned it up. It was very flavorful and yummy. We ordered some more bread because we had cheese left over but that again took almost 15 minutes to arrive at the table. Besides the slow service, our little bite + beer was an enjoyable experience. We will probably come back sometime to try the pizza, but it won't be the first place we come back to in GR.

Very impressed with the place! We blindly picked it off yelp because the location worked for the people we were meeting and it turned out great! The pizza was delicious and we enjoyed the beer! The service was great considering we had a large group! Will be back for sure!

I loved the decor based on a baseball theme. We ordered the Thai Cobb pizza which was good but we requested extra peanut sauce to add some extra flavor. My raspberry cider was nice. Not a beer drinker so no comment on the beer. Service was very good but I don't like it when the server rounds your change. I want to get the exact change back. That's how I learned math.

The best up and comer I've visited. These guys are legit! Beer is fantastic! The venue is a 19th century firehouse and they've done a great job of preserving the history. It doesn't hurt that they're big baseball fans! Check it out!

Mitten does a great job! Their beers are quality, their pizzas tasty, and they have a great ambience. Go Detroit, or go home...and I'm not even a fan. Trust me, you'll be happy here if you like the simple things. And if you're fortunate to be around during opening day, their Triple IPA that they brew is superb. I know IPAs are the "thing" right now, but Mitten's is truly worth it.

My husband and I went here and were very disappointed in the service. This was not our first bad experience. They were short staffed so I didn't mind waiting. But then other employees came in that were off the clock. The staff that was working served them drinks and food first, when we had been waiting 45 minutes for our pizza. The off the clock staff was also going behind the bar and distracting the employees that were working. We emailed the manager there and he promised to send us a gift card to make up for it. The gift card never came. My husband has had a few great experiences here, but we will not be returning.

Went w a friend on a Monday 6:15. Tiny, noisy and already a wait list when we arrived. My friend does not drink. I tried the cherry cider which made a nice change for pre-dinner. We ordered pepperoni pizza. Sorry, but for me it is not the crust but the sauce! Asked for sauce to the edge which did not happen. If you like thin and crispy this is your place! I prefer hand tossed and heavy on the sauce. I was promptly served a side of marinara upon request. Clientele was mixed, some people had young children who were all well behaved. Lots of groups of 4. Bar and wait staff were very busy but keeping up. We enjoyed our visit but this is not our kind of place. Admittedly most people were in their 20's to 35 on this night. I also tried one of the craft brews (forgot which). Nice change from the chains. They continued to have a short wait line when we left.

This is my neighborhood "pizza and beer" spot. Both food and beverage are always interesting. The ambience is perfect and the wait staff, bartenders, and brewers are always friendly and knowledgeable. As compared to other breweries in Grand Rapids, I wouldn't say their beer stands out as exceptional, but it is very good. The main downside is that The Mitten's rapidly growing popularity is making it harder to get a table without a long wait. With so many other options for good beer in town, I can easily go somewhere without waiting. Taking reservations or call aheads might alleviate this problem.

Fun place to get a beer and pizza...love the Pizza Flights for those of us who can't decide...:/. Food was good, service was prompt. From the time we walked in and were greeted to the pleasant, attentive wait staff who brought us delicious bruschetta, to the Pizza flight....hot food was hot and cold beverages were cold. This was a great experience....we will be back!!!

Stopped in with the Michigan family based on the reviews on here. Had a sampling of the pizza and the build your own stromboli. Pizza looked awesome and the stromboli was delicious. Crust is great and not greasy. Had flights of beers and all were very tasty. Enjoyed the porter especially. Will definitely going back when I'm back visiting.

The Mitten is awesome. I have come here three times so this review is a summation of all three experiences. 1) The pizza is excellent. I tried their pizza flight which offers you the chance to pick six pizzas and they will shrink them down as a sampler. The concept is great, however the execution was poor since it leads to a lot of the pieces being edge pieces with too much crust. I have also had some of their specialty pizzas like the Westerdog which was surprisingly good considering it has hot dog, mustard, etc. 2) The service at the bar is top notch. I went here for a Tigers game (which they offered $6 1-topping pizzas for the duration) and the bartender Shannon was very personable and even introduced me to some of the mug club members who were also hanging out at the bar. This led to free peanuts from the guy next to me and a free sampler beer that was accidentally poured for somebody! 3) The service at the tables is wonderful. When our sampler pizza was delivered one of the corner pieces fell off in the kitchen apparently. The waitress apologized profusely and said there was another slice coming out soon to replace that one. "Another slice" turned out to be a WHOLE large pizza due to a miscommunication in the kitchen. Score! Leftovers! 4) The atmosphere at the bar is great, too. There is baseball memorabilia all over the place and the design is condusive to watching sports as there are televisions all over the place. 5) The beer is hit and miss and there are less selections (usually about 7) than larger breweries. However, this is understandable considering they are both a smaller venue and were recently started compared to larger breweries. 6) Every time I have been there the owner has been perusing the bar saying hi to people which was fun. Summary: great pizza, great venue, great staff, decent beer.

The "Pizza Flight" is GENIUS, why has no other place (that we've stumbled across... and we eat a lot of pizza!) thought to do this?? Their beer is just rock solid, a stand-out in a very quality-beer-soaked city. Cannot wait to come back when travels once again find us in GRR!

Not a huge selection of beer but man does the pizza smell good. The beer they do have is delicious. They also offer pitchers which I rarely see at breweries. Bonus! The atmosphere is clean and comfortable. I don't like baseball but this place is pretty dang cool.

Mitten Brewery is a Detroit baseball themes bar and it feels right at home when you get there! The beer selection is limited- around 5 beers on tap at a time, but they are good beers - IPA is hoppy and delicious, brown isn't too heavy but has a nice light taste. Beer cheese is cold but tastes good, Pretzels are warm and good. Small space, can get crowded.

Mitten Brewing Co. is a fantastic brewery in Grand Rapids built in an old firehouse building. It has a great atmosphere and provides both indoor and outdoor seating. It was a beautiful day outside, so we opted to sit outdoors. Although I hear they have legendary pizzas, we were there strictly for yummy beer. I couldn't drink too much as this was my last day in Grand Rapids, but I indulged in one drink before my journey home. I decided on the Pine Tar DIPA and I was very impressed with the drink. Mitten has a great tap list and an even bigger food menu. Definitely try a gourmet pizza. Mitten also hosts events at their location. Mitten is certainly a brewing company to check out when in the city.

Got there just in time (at 6:15) to get a table on a Wednesday that was also a Trivia Night (started at 7:30). Had a Country Style IPA, which the waitress commented was close to Centennial, for all your Founders fans. I would agree, but slightly better.... We got a jalapeño soft pretzel with cheese for an appetizer while waiting for a group to show. Looking back, I'd order it with the habanero sauce if I were you. We ordered the Heater pizza. Best. pizza. ever. YUM. If you're a fan of sweet heat, you'll love this one. I also ordered a side of regular marinara to dip because... pizza isn't pizza without marinara :) It's a pretty tiny place, but lots of character and great pizza!! Service was a little slow but it was quite busy. Just be patient and enjoy your drinks!

This is a great choice...always. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious brews, amazing pizzas and top notch service. I have a fantastic time every visit I've had. Good for a date night or a large get together. I will continue to love the mitten as long as they keep it awesome :)

Great Pizza. That's enough to get us to come back again and again. Got the "blonde" beer - was OK (I'm not much of a craft beer guy). Good for kids & definitely a great sport for a baseball game (peanuts appetizer, etc)

Oh...The Mitten. You would soon be a household name only if you were located close to downtown. We decided to check this place out on their trivia night because what else is better than challenging your brain at the same time killing it with some beer! Walking into the place with your eyes closed, the first thing that you are greeted with the aroma of fresh pizza. There is smell of garlic, parmesan, bread, and yummy pepperoni. When you open you eyes you ask yourself...did I walk inside a pizza hut or a fire station!?! The answer to that question is an outstanding Yes on both ends! This place used to be a fire station which is apparent from the large garage doors and now they serve excellent pizza alongside home-brewed beers. After getting a seat, we checked out their beer menu. Their beers are all made in-house and range from IPAs to stouts to browns to some heavy a$$ imperial stuff. One glance at other folk's glasses and you will notice a lot of people drinking some kind of a dark beer and after asking the bartender she will confirm that it is their very famous Peanuts & Cracker Jack. One sip of this beer will remind you exactly of what the beer is named after. Now let's move on to the food. When you're at The Mitten, you gotta try their amazing pizzas. The last page of their menu will list Gourmet Pizzas which is their offering of the pizzas with the craziest and tastiest toppings. We're talking pizza like the "Thai Cobb" which has peanut sauce, carrots, water chestnuts...say whaaa!?! Or trying giving your taste-buds a kick and showing who's the boss by trying the "Heater" which has habanero sauce, andouille sausage, and jalapenos. Take my advice and just go for the pizza flight which is a steal if you have not more than four people in your group. You get to sample any of the 6 pizzas served on their sweet wooden paddle which you can use to wack the person caught eating your share of the pizza (true story). In summary, I would recommend checking out The Mitten for their great and cheap selection of beers and their excellent mouth-watering pizzas. The only thing I wish was that the place was a little bigger and located in downtown.

Always heard they had great pizza and it was true....very good pizza and breadsticks...and all at a reasonable price! Someone's prior description was good about it being a great Tigers Baseball Hangout....kind of had they Wrigleyville feel to it. Great Place to Bring the Family as well....all my kids liked the pizza....which that in itself says something....that one is hard to achieve in our family....Good Job Mitten!!

I always have great service and they have great beer and great pizza!! I am a big fan of the breweries in Grand Rapids and this one is definitely at the top of my list! Casual, cozy, and inviting...if that's what you're looking for this is the place to come!

I was in town to work for the day with a co-worker (we all work remotely) and I asked him to take me to a place that he felt would be representative of some good GR food. He named a few placed, but finally decided that The Mitten was where we should go. The building is neat, i like the exposed brick and the various displays of artwork on the wall makes you feel like you're at someplace hip and cool. I had the Vanilla Milk Stout, which I really enjoyed, my local brew pub (Short's Brewery) has been devoid of stouts (or porters) lately, so a nice pint of dark beer was just what I was hankering for. With their vast Pizza menu, it was hard to try and decide upon a single pizza to order, so the idea of a Pizza Flight was great (six-pizza choices for the price of two pizzas, basically). We each picked three pizzas that sounded good to us and in the end took home what was left of basically a single of these smaller pizzas on the flight. Another great thing, the Pizza Flight was $5 off. The pizza itself had an excellent thin style crust. I would definitely eat here again and if I wasn't there for lunch, I would have tried some of their other beers.

Their beer is top notch and their pizzas are delicious. Having a flight of pizza is a great way to handle dinner for a few picky folks. Be sure to try the Thai Cobb.

Really good pizza (NY style--fairly thin crust, wood-fired). We had the Margarita pizza. Then hummus appetizer was very good too. Hubby liked his IPA beer. Service was fine.

After our horrible experience at Hideout not too far away, we went to Mittens Brewing. We caught them before closing. This was a really nice place, relaxed, decent amount of tables, small bar. Unfortunately not much in the merchandise category...great (but expensive) stickers. -We ordered a great pizza that was really tasty. -As for the beer we did a sampler. Eighty Four Double IPA was malty but not bad, Honey Wheat was okay, Triple Crown brown not bad, Peanut and Cracker Jack porter can taste the cracker jack not bad, Scottish Ale not bad, and Death to Flying Things was very strong and tasty. -Not much else to say here, the beer wasn't anything special, pizza was good, nice scenery and a place worth checking out if you're in the area. The bartender was also very talkative and a really nice guy.

We were there on a Friday around 6 and it was pretty busy. We had to wait for a table, but it wasn't a long wait. We ordered the pizza flight which was awesome. We picked 6 different pizzas and I liked all of them. The Hawaiian was my favorite. Beers were also good. I liked the country strong ipa. Yum! Decor and atmosphere were both nice too. You can tell someone is a Tigers fan, which is a plus. We will definitely be back.

It is a Tuesday night at the Mitten Brewery Company, I found a sit right away at the bar. Let me say, that is pretty awesome. I was greeted by Pat (aka Petey) the beertender. He quickly, attends to my request of the Country Strong IPA (yummy, hoppy goodness). Pat leaves to take a much needed break (I can only assume because of the busy place). James (the restaurant manger) covers. James quickly asks me what am I drinking? I reply and he asks if I have tried the galaxy hopped double IPA? So along with my beer, I get an awesome new sample to taste too! Plus, there is always the mouth watering smell of artisan pizza baking throughout. A mouthwatering bonus to any visit.

MItten Brewing is in and old fire station and is a fun setting for a brewery. The staff is friendly and the samples of beer flow freely. I got a growler of their Grand Pumpkin and the Peanuts and Cracker Jacks. Both were very tasty. The wheat beer they had was a little weak in flavor I thought. I didn't have the pizza, but the person at the bar next to me got what looked like a chicken bbq. He said it was good. I will be sure to make a return visit. You can never have too many breweries!
(4)
Jenifer B.
I went back recently and since it was seat yourself I had no issues with a host. ;) The beer was good - I had the Peanut Crackerjack stout. Actually I had three, but who is counting? The table shared cheesy breadsticks. Get the spicy sauce if you order them. I was with a vegan friend so we got a vegan pizza to share. I've never had a vegan pizza so who knows how this one compares. It was definitely not something I would order again. Next time I'll get something less animal friendly.

This is a favorite lunch spot for our little family. We're not big beer drinkers, but we looooooooove pizza! We really enjoy the meat hook pizza. This is somewhere we enjoy taking out of town friends for a meal. The atmosphere is uniquely Michigan. We take our child and the children of friends here often. We have yet to eat here at dinner time, but lunch is fab!

Delicious pizza and brew -- tried the cherry cider and am on the way now to get a growler of it from Cascade Wineries since they don't sell the growler for this at The Mitten. We did take home a growler of the cream ale from The Mitten. Best part? We were there during the week of Cmas and won a free meal for a promotion they were doing through Facebook! Best chicken BBQ pizza we've ever had, and not just bc it was free!!

Country Strong IPA is a great beer. Their pizza is awesome as well. It's a great spot to watch a tigers game or meet a friend for happy hour. If you haven't checked this spot out you need to.

This is the best pub in GR. The atmosphere in the old firehouse is amazing!! The pizzas are unique and the beer is great! I love the Tigers theme too

I'm not a fan of beer, but both times I've been here, they have had some sort of cider that has not disappointed at all. The Chicken Pesto pizza is to.die.for. and the beer cheese is awesome, but was surprisingly served cold. It's located just outside of downtown, has an awesome, casual atmosphere and a menu full of meat, vegetarian and vegan items. It's our new go to for a casual beer and pizza!

I have no reason to not give Mitten 5 stars. While this is not my all-time favorite brewery in GR, it's good and deserves a stop. I have been a few different times and enjoyed myself each time. It's a nice relaxed ambiance, very casual. I have had their breadsticks, pizza, and hummus, and enjoyed them all. The pizza the wood-fired style and they have a lot of good options including making your own (with vegan options too). The hummus seems to be homemade is was tasty, topped with fresh basil and served with pieces of pizza bread. The menu isn't super expansive, I'd love to see salads on it, but I haven't been disappointed with my choices. Like any craft brewery, their beers rotate a lot. The first time I visited, probably within their first month of business, they had only 2 beers on tap. My most recent visit, they had 6 or 7, but all except one were very hoppy beers. Obviously that has its place and there are a lot of factors that go into the beer availability, but having 5 IPAs/ pale ales and 1 stout (plus a cider) seems like a strange mix. I am not a hophead, so I tried the stout and enjoyed it. Nice and smoky, not too heavy. Definitely ask for a sample if you aren't sure you will love something. I have been pleased with the service. I enjoyed sitting at the bar by myself, reading comics, and having a beer and a snack- it's that kind of place on the weekdays. Very chill. It's probably one of your best options on Leonard.
(5)
Tim O.
Amazing beers, great pizza, and the staff is uber nice. Truly a laid back Westside hangout that sincerely cares about the quality of their products over creating another "pirates of the Caribbean" bullshit brewery (which there are PLENTY in GR if that's what you're looking for). The room is wide open with tigers decor and plenty of seating.

I sat at the bar. Beer is good. building is nice cool old historical. Food ok. My Calzone served on a silver pizza crust tray. oh you want silver ware, well you have to ask for it. in fact anything and everything I did while sitting there, I had to get someones attention to accomplish. I watched both bar tenders closely (ballgame was a romp). for the second night and 4 different bartenders in total, two pairs of two) same report on all four! SLOW... seemed to spend more time (amongst the hour i was there) washing glasses than they did serving customers. Watched many who walked to the bar and waited for 10 minutes to get noticed to place initial order. (wasn't just me having to ask for everything and get someone's attention). They appear to just not be trained well, and there was no leader there on either night. Oh... and act like you want to be working there and show a smile once in while??? Satisfied my thirst, but many other brew pub options in town.

I've driven by this place over 50 times, never stopped, mainly because of the location and secondly it has never came up in the discussion for happy hour. The one thing I always here when the name comes up is "good pizza". So I finally decided to stop last night. A great summer night and the patio was packed; very attractive. I guess it is new (the patio), hence why the place looked so much more attractive. One beer just to check it out. So we order a beer each. 5 minutes later, no beers, so I kindly stop the server and ask for some peanuts that are on the app menu. $1. Peanuts require no cooking, just filling up a bowl, so I figure I'll snack on something in case the beer takes a few more minutes. 10 minutes later, no beer, no peanuts. 5 minutes later, I loose my thirst and the situation is starting to be stressful as the table behind us was getting service from 3 servers and had their beers ASAP even though they came in after us. I go inside to the bar and let them know we would just like to go. Another 10 minutes or so and my tab was refunded... Oh yeah, I forgot to say I gave my credit card with my order as I told her we were just driving by and having one beer to check the place out. I had my tab back within 2 minutes and credit card charged. The reason I'm writing this is because the manager who credited my card back, restorted to excuses about a new POS system vs trying to keep our business and maintain future business. Pretty sure the POS system worked fine as I was given my credit card back within 2 minutes, yet no beer or peanuts after 15 minutes. Keep in mind, peanuts do not require cooking or prep work. Ridiculous!!! So I guess this advice is more towards management and servers for when people order food that does not require a kitchen. God forbid if we would have asked for waters. I will never go back to this place because of this. It may have just been bad luck, but the way the manager "tried" to resolve it, was enough to keep me away. Complaining about a POS system. How about the server, or any server for that matter, seeing two people sitting there with NOTHING in front of them for 15 minutes? You were not even that busy, servers/barbacks walked by our table over 20 times. Train your staff. ONe last thing... John F's comment I just read... LOLLLLLLL Here it is: Still good food, had more beer choices on second visit, but explain to me why the fuck they have last call at 9 pm during a Tigers game? Have you seen the decor and beer names? This place is all about baseball. They don't need to stay open for west coast games, but Maddux couldn't finish a game before this place closes. Stay open later because I love your beers and want to drink them and watch Tigers baseball. LOL I will say that we went up the street to Triangle Bar. There was one bartender covering 10 people at the bar and 3 tables. We were greeted and served beers (Perrin Grapefruit) within 5 minutes, and then I walked and filled up a bowl of popcorn, which was free. The beer tasted so good, the bowl of popcorn was soon gone, so I went and got another one. So the two of us sat and enjoyed good beer, free popcorn and watched the tigers. It ended up being exactly what we were looking for, a nice beer on a nice summer night.

Stopped by for an early lunch and the place was full. Guessing the pre-Thanksgiving crowd was more than typical. Only the bartender was working the dining area and bar. I haven't seen somebody hustle that much in a long time. He acknowledged people as they walked in the door, made sure you had a beer, was bussing tables, and taking orders. It is nice to see someone who cares about customer service, this passionately. The wait was a little longer than ideal, but if I have a cold beer in a cool place, with someone clearly making an effort, I am more than happy. During our lunch, the reinforcements arrived and combined with the extra staff and a bartender still going full speed, overall the service was great! Pizza was good, with thin crispy crust that had a little sweetness to it. Left over beer cheese was good to dip the crust into. I had several of the beers on tap and enjoyed them all from IPA, pale ale, and stout. This place is a little off the path from the other places downtown, but if you enjoy a casual atmosphere with good service, pizza, and beer I would highly recommend. .

The beer was pretty good. Their dipa was flavorful but nothing special. The building is an old fire house and is pleasant inside. Service was attentive and friendly. We started with the beer cheese, which was served cold. It was OK, but there is much better available in GR and I thought they were skimpy with the bread. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza, which was pretty good but nothing fantastic. This place is worth a stop but there are much better breweries in Grand Rapids. This is probably more of a tribute to how amazing the craft beer scene is than a failure in this place.

I love the West Coast Sweet Amber. Especially when it comes in a pitcher. I haven't had a chance to try their food just yet but I'm sure that's great as well. I mean, who has a pizza flight on their menu?! The service is great and ambiance warm and friendly. I can't wait to come back!

Founders is obviously the big dog microbrewery in Grand Rapids. However, Mitten is shockingly good for how young the business is. They only serve a few beers, but they are all very solid. I find them better than any other microbrewery in Kent County other than Founders. Perrin has more money, but their beers are a tad on the mild side for craft brew aficionados. The pizza here is even better than the beer. I saw several people in here today drinking water but having pizza, so it's good enough to be a stand alone restaurant. My only criticism is a mediocre parking situation.

We walked into the Mitten Brewery after a refreshing bike ride from Brewery Vivant, thirsty for another delicious local craft brew. The Mitten is dedicated to Detroit baseball (awesome) and is located in an old fire station. The space is very odd and I found it extremely uncomfortable. The sign said 'seat yourself' with the only seat becoming open was a 6 top (for 2 of us). I felt bad for taking a huge table, but I was starving and selfish. The bar itself was small and uninviting. This place seriously needs a fung shui expert. Besides the atmosphere, the beer was pretty good. I had a peanut and Cracker Jack flavored beverage tasting exactly like peanuts and Cracker jacks. When ordering our pizza without cheese, the waitress suggested a vegan substitute. YES!! The pizza was most excellent and I ate it all! In the end, will I return to Mitten? Maybe. However, you should go to try the beer and pizza!

Five of us visited last Wednesday night. I'd give them a four for the food, but a two for the service. Or maybe a one. The vegan calzone I had was good, though the crust was overdone in places. The pizzas were good. The waitress was not very friendly, was forgetful, and was downright neglectful. I'd go back because it's hard to find vegan choices, but I hope we get better service next time.

Myself and some family ate here earlier today and can say that I have a new favorite pizza place. My brother and I split The Heater and would recommend it to anyone who likes sweet and spicy food. I had the milk stout and thought it was very good, especially for the price. Would recommend The Mitten to anyone looking for a local pub/brewery.

Drew was a great server! It was a long (1 hour) wait, and the Stromboli was a bit small, but my order was taken perfectly.

Stopped in for a quick bite, I am gluten free and always looking for good gluten free pizza. The pizza was great the texture was soft and the crust seasoned, very good for gluten free. Our service was great on the patio. Our pizza took longer than anticipated and the server took 1/2 off, we would not have complained but I see that as a sign of great customer service.

First time here and we ordered the Mediterranean pizza - it's now are favorite pizza hands down. My hubbie enjoyed his brews and we can't wait to return. Host and server were friendly and competent. The place has a great ambience.

Awesome brewery with really great pizza. The waitstaff was excellent, even with my special requests, and the beer was great too. Definitely going back!

Love trying out new brewpubs, and this one was a great one. The beer is very good. Good selection: IPA, Pale, Porter, Hef, a "wheatwine", and even a cider for those non-beer lovers. They also have wine - "white" and "red" if someone in your party doesn't like the beer. Get a flight to try everything on draft. I love a good IPA, and this one was good. The Porter and the Hef were also some of my faves, even though I'm not typically a fan of those styles of beer. The pizza was awesome. They really nailed it. We did a Mediterranean, a Margherita, and a design-your-own for the table, and all were amazing. Oh, we also started out with a beer cheese, which is ok, though heavy on the horseradish, and would have been better served warm (they serve it cold). Also, the service was great. Overall, great place.

Wonderful beer and food. Bartender Shannon did a great job explaining the different offerings and was spot on with her recommendations. Had the pizza sampler- what a great deal for 4 people. All were excellent. One suggestion. Please get the buzzer pagers for the hostess stand. It was a bit confusing and time consuming for them finding people.

Reading about this new brewery got me all excited to try something new in GR. An old firehouse turned brewery with Tiger Stadium seats and a hoppy brew guaranteed to make your eyes water, it sounded like just the kind of place for me. Driving there from the Civic Theater was a bit disconcerting, across the street from a resale shop and other closed down buildings, the neighborhood felt a little worn down. Walking into the Mitten, you see the Tiger seats in a cold waiting room with very little atmosphere. When you walk into the main room, the first impression is the stark emptiness of the place, with dirty tables, peanut shells littering the floor (okay, I understand this is part of the "ambiance," but at least, clean the tables), and the lack of service. A sign in the corner of the room near stated that customers should order at the bar, but we assumed that the sign was meant for the standing room only customers in the corner. So we sat and waited, until the impatience took over. One of our group went to the bar to place our order, and soon after the server came by to take our order. She also mentioned that she was the bartender, so she was pretty swamped. Understandable for a new place to work out their staffing issues in the first days, but for a Saturday, staffing really should have been amped up with at least one bartender and one server for the whole bar. On tap, there was a stout, pale ale, hefeweizen and a pumpkin brew. We did tasting portions of each, and enjoyed our drinks, but weren't pleased with the slow service and lack of atmosphere.

I ordered 2 Pints. I was charged for 2 Pints. The glasses were too small to be Pints. When I pointed it out, the staff was rude and copped an attitude when I pointed it out, they ignored me like its normal to rip people off. Strike 1.

The chicken pesto pizza was excellent. Hard cider was excellent. Large pretzel was so good and it came with a spicy mustard which was extra delicious. Cool old firehouse ambience. Highly recommend.

Post 5K the other day with the family and we decided to swing into The Mitten and check it out based on some recommendations from friends. We were assured it was family friendly and we were not disappointed. We ordered a pizza for the kids (Hawaiian) and one for the adults (Greek). Pizza was served rather quickly, which is always appreciated when you have kids. It was lunch time so not a big crowd, but a nice sized one. Looking at the Tigers stuff and the fire dept stuff helped pass the time with the kids. I am not a beer drinker, so nothing but water for me, but the husband did enjoy his stout and was sad that he hadn't thought to bring his growler with him for one to go. Our pizzas were super tasty and hot. I can't stand greasy pizza that looks like it has a gloss on it or all the toppings just slide off. I especially like the concept that part of the sales go to charity. If it comes down to a decision between places, I would definitely choose to go somewhere that gives back.

Went in for a beer and to check out the place. Love the atmosphere. Only had one beer (Mild Dark, maybe?) and it was delicious. The menu looked good and I'm looking forward to coming back to try it out. The bartender was very friendly and the place overall had a great vibe.

I tried the brown ale, the esb, and got a glass of double ipa. I was a big fan of all three. The neighborhood is still up and coming, but The Mitten's building is very cool, sporting a hard wood and brick interior. The beer cheese was just ok, but their pizza was excellent. I would probably return for the pizza or beer alone, but together, ya I'll be back.

If you want to go to a Brewery that is laid back, easy to get to, GREAT pizza and beer pairings, friendly staff, down to earth atmosphere then The Mitten is your place. The brewery is located on the NW side of Leonard in an old fire barn, the theme is Tigers Baseball with great memorabilia on the walls! My fiance raves about the Peanuts and Crackerjacks beer that they sever. Highly reccomend!

Really cool place, I wish I liked beer more! I love the setting it is a renovated firehouse so I like what that adds to the experience. 5 stars because they offer vegan food on their menu!!!

I loved the old fire house building (still has the brass pole) and the pizza but I was disappointed that there was only one real beer and 3 ciders on tap (I went for trying new beers, not ciders). The website showed 4 beers....I'd still go again but I'd check first to verify what's on tap

Just left this awesome brewery. The crowd was a mix of families, young hip urbanites, and seasoned beer drinkers. the pizza was delicious; well worth the price. One of the owners, Chris Andrus, a former student of mine, was a great host, and the waitstaff was also very good. i would recommend this great westside business. Support the local Westside; you'll be glad you did! GO WEST!mmmmmmmmmmmmm

A underrated gem in Grand Rapids. I visited The Mitten on my last visit to GR. One thing I love about the city is all the little breweries and the Mitten is definitely my new favorite. The interior is gorgeous, everything baseball themed (our waiter told me the tables were made from the same wood as baseball bats), but very easy going. This is definitely a place to come and relax. I tried the Grand Pumpkin which was yum and my husband had a pizza with chicken on it (can't remember what it was called) and he said it was tasty. Can't wait to stop in again on my next trip!

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

(4)Kerry F.

(5)Todd B.
Great place and had a local feel to it. The pizza was excellent and the beer sampler is a must. Very pleased with experience and way above expectations.
(5)Ron R.
(4)Alan B.
The pizza is really good. I've had a few of the beers and they were good but I keep coming back for the pizza.
(4)Don Z.
(4)Eli D.
Phenomenal beer, pizza, and atmosphere. The patio was awesome and the staff was more than accommodating!
(5)Erin K.

(3)Griff G.
Very cool baseball themed bar with a lot of vintage memorabilia on the walls and throughout the restaurant. Beer menu offers a nice variety of different styles - but the Pizza is absolutely awesome. Perfect place to have a few beers and grab a pizza any night of the week.
(4)Jim M.
(4)Daniel H.
(4)Colleen P.
The fish dip appetizer was yummy, margarita pizza delicious, sangria and beer tasty. Our server Stephanie was awesome!

(4)Meghan M.
Very impressed with the place! We blindly picked it off yelp because the location worked for the people we were meeting and it turned out great! The pizza was delicious and we enjoyed the beer! The service was great considering we had a large group! Will be back for sure!
(5)Bernadene F.
(3)Amy Z.
Loved the atmosphere. Drinks only, never got to try the food but, people were eating near us at the bar and it looked delicious!
(5)Josh B.
The best up and comer I've visited. These guys are legit! Beer is fantastic! The venue is a 19th century firehouse and they've done a great job of preserving the history. It doesn't hurt that they're big baseball fans! Check it out!
(5)Ken M.
(4)Sarah M.

(3)Suzanne S.
(4)Connie R.
(5)Kyle B.
(5)Timothy B.

Another delicious meal at The Mitten! The pizza is absolutely the best, and Lindsey the waitress was wonderful! We'll be back!!

(5)Chris I.
Great place to grab a good beer and watch the game. The staff is fun and I always have a good time
(4)Aly O.
Not a huge selection of beer but man does the pizza smell good. The beer they do have is delicious. They also offer pitchers which I rarely see at breweries. Bonus! The atmosphere is clean and comfortable. I don't like baseball but this place is pretty dang cool.
(5)Alissa R.

Excellent fish dip! I am not a lover of fish dip but I could eat it all the time. Good pizzas and beer, too!
(5)Anna R.
(4)Pat C.
Gourmet pizza on the northwest side of Grand Rapids has finally returned. Good crust, good beer!
(4)Jesten M.
This is a great choice...always. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious brews, amazing pizzas and top notch service. I have a fantastic time every visit I've had. Good for a date night or a large get together. I will continue to love the mitten as long as they keep it awesome :)
(5)Jeremy J.

(4)David R.
(4)Rachel W.

(4)Brian K.
Their beer is top notch and their pizzas are delicious. Having a flight of pizza is a great way to handle dinner for a few picky folks. Be sure to try the Thai Cobb.
(5)Gretchen D.
Really good pizza (NY style--fairly thin crust, wood-fired). We had the Margarita pizza. Then hummus appetizer was very good too. Hubby liked his IPA beer. Service was fine.
(4)Joe Y.
(4)Sarine J.
This place has fantastic beer! The service is excellent! We got the fish dip and a chipotle pizza. The prices are very affordable and the ingredients very fresh.
(4)Randy A.
Looks good, but so crowded i could not get a table or a seat....no parking either....and thats a week nite! Must be good i guess.
(2)Ctny S.
(4)Lindsay O.
(5)Adam G.
(4)Jenifer B.
(4)Betsey K.
(5)Kristen M.
(5)Kris P.
Country Strong IPA is a great beer. Their pizza is awesome as well. It's a great spot to watch a tigers game or meet a friend for happy hour. If you haven't checked this spot out you need to.
(5)Jeremy H.
This is the best pub in GR. The atmosphere in the old firehouse is amazing!! The pizzas are unique and the beer is great! I love the Tigers theme too
(5)Marie S.
(5)Elise P.
(5)Tim O.
(5)Gary F.
(2)Mark B.
(1)Bradley S.
This place is a little off the path from the other places downtown, but if you enjoy a casual atmosphere with good service, pizza, and beer I would highly recommend. .
(5)Russell B.
(4)Anthony M.
I love the West Coast Sweet Amber. Especially when it comes in a pitcher. I haven't had a chance to try their food just yet but I'm sure that's great as well. I mean, who has a pizza flight on their menu?! The service is great and ambiance warm and friendly. I can't wait to come back!
(5)Orson B.
(5)John F.
Still good food, had more beer choices on second visit, but explain to me why the fuck they have last call at 9 pm during a Tigers game? Have you seen the decor and beer names?
(4)susan e.
(3)Andrew C.
(5)Sam P.
Drew was a great server! It was a long (1 hour) wait, and the Stromboli was a bit small, but my order was taken perfectly.
(4)Nathan F.
Cool place great beer
(4)Jennifer H.
(5)Peg K.
First time here and we ordered the Mediterranean pizza - it's now are favorite pizza hands down. My hubbie enjoyed his brews and we can't wait to return. Host and server were friendly and competent. The place has a great ambience.
(5)Erin C.
Awesome brewery with really great pizza. The waitstaff was excellent, even with my special requests, and the beer was great too. Definitely going back!
(5)Allie H.
(5)Marilee F.

(2)Timmy T.
I ordered 2 Pints. I was charged for 2 Pints. The glasses were too small to be Pints. When I pointed it out, the staff was rude and copped an attitude when I pointed it out, they ignored me like its normal to rip people off. Strike 1.
(1)Mike N.
The chicken pesto pizza was excellent. Hard cider was excellent. Large pretzel was so good and it came with a spicy mustard which was extra delicious. Cool old firehouse ambience. Highly recommend.
(5)Jenny W.
(4)Anissa C.
Waitress was attentive. It's affordable. I was intoxicated off of two of their draft drinks. Nice atmosphere.
(3)Lola J.
Went in for a beer and to check out the place. Love the atmosphere. Only had one beer (Mild Dark, maybe?) and it was delicious. The menu looked good and I'm looking forward to coming back to try it out. The bartender was very friendly and the place overall had a great vibe.
(4)Maggi O.
(4)Ellie A.
(5)Lacey B.
Really cool place, I wish I liked beer more! I love the setting it is a renovated firehouse so I like what that adds to the experience. 5 stars because they offer vegan food on their menu!!!
(5)Dan F.
I loved the old fire house building (still has the brass pole) and the pizza but I was disappointed that there was only one real beer and 3 ciders on tap (I went for trying new beers, not ciders). The website showed 4 beers....I'd still go again but I'd check first to verify what's on tap
(3)Gerri W.
