It's no big secret that many restaurants' staffs, both front and back of house, can be divided into an A-team and a B-team (A being superior to B, of course), and the B-team is usually relegated to lunch. Perhaps this is why I was so unimpressed with Six One Six today: I ate lunch. I'd heard and read many good things, but my experience did not fulfill expectations. First, despite the restaurant being at a slow-to-medium level of business, the wait for the food was loooooong. No skin off my back, but an impatient diner would be annoyed. I don't give two shits how long things take--provided that the food makes me happy. Now about that... How excited I was to see a menu item like pork belly tacos with avocado crema. I mean, crispy piggy goodness in a tortilla! I'm still convinced this is a good idea, but today's offering did not deliver evidence for support. The pork, though crispy as advertised and well-seasoned, reached my mouth only marginally above room temperature. The avocado crema didn't disappoint, but was slathered on in such a quantity as to drown out the other flavors. Amplifying this unfortunate phenomenon was the fact that there just wasn't much substantive food in the tortilla. Save for the stingy portion of pork and a light dusting of queso fresco, the rest of the taco's contents were essentially condiments: the aforementioned crema, tomato guajillo sauce, and onion cilantro. The pork tacos were served with homemade tortilla chips, which were soggy and coated with a spice blend that I'm sure would be quite good if not applied with the ferocity of a sandstorm. Similarly, one would expect perch to make more than a cameo appearance in a dish called Great Lakes perch tacos, but Six One Six's rendering required deep focus to convince yourself that you were, indeed, eating fish. To be fair, the diner who ordered these asked for the perch to be pan-fried instead of deep-fried, so the version I tasted wasn't quite what the chef had intended, but again, there was so little of the fish that I can't imagine that this changed much. The perch taco was finished with a tasty sauce gribiche, but like the pork taco, the proportions of the dish's components were unforgivably out of whack. The club sandwich was garden-variety. A sun-dried tomato mayo offered a mild reprieve from the ordinary, and the nutty wheat bread on which it was served was nice, but aside from that, it was a big 'Meh.' Truffle fries, served in the traditional paper cone and sprinkled with parmigiano and herbs, were a bright spot--and would have been brighter, had they been served sufficiently hot. The dish's name is somewhat of a misnomer, as the truffle appears only in the mayonnaise accompanying the fries. This mayo was tasty, though, with an earthy undertone that may or may not have been actual truffle; whatever it was, it worked. A common theme in the hot dishes I tasted was that they were not, in fact, hot. Whether fault for this lay in the hands of the server or the kitchen, I don't know, but someone dropped the ball. I'm not ready to completely write off Six One Six, though, as there is a lot to love about the menu on a conceptual level. Perhaps my experience today was effected by a B-team that was not quite ready for prime time. Just execute! Correct those proportions, serve the food at an appropriate temperature and in an appropriate duration of time, and they're in business.

We used to go here for birthday dinners but the most recent two were lacking a certain something in the food. It was not as good as it used to be. Not sure why. We have stopped going for birthdays because of this. However, their patio on the river is still the best place for drinks in town.

I had been to Six One Six before, a couple of years ago on my birthday. There were about 8 of us and we had drinks and dessert and everything was fine, but I hadn't been back since. We stayed at the JW Marriott and the package we purchased included breakfast. The night before, we ordered room service. We got the chocolate flour-less cake. I think I had this before. It was dense and rich - definitely fulfills a chocolate craving. I enjoyed the cherry preserves with it, but the whipped cream was not the same whipped cream we enjoyed the next morning at breakfast. I would say the dessert was good, but not $12 good, and probably not something I would order again. The actual room service, however, was excellent and the presentation was nice. The next morning we went to breakfast around 10:30 (Saturday). We were greeted promptly and there was no wait for a table. The server was a friendly young man who asked us if we were guests at the hotel, made small talk conversation, asked us if we'd like drinks and took our order. My husband and I both decided to get the breakfast buffet, which is usually $18 per person. I ordered decaf coffee and my husband ordered regular coffee. We each got our own personal little carafe of coffee. I thought this was a great idea, so we could refill our own cups and not have to wait for the server to come by. The coffee was no Douwe Egberts, but it was fine. The table had a variety of sweetener options, including Truvia. The breakfast buffet: My husband loved it. I thought it was pretty good, especially for a hotel breakfast buffet. I would actually say this was far better quality and provided me with more options than the buffet I had at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. My husband had a Belgian waffle and there were different topping options, including some of the best whipped cream I've ever had! There was a wide variety of baked goods including muffins, scones, croissants, bagels, breads, etc. There were packets of cream cheese, butter, peanutbutter, etc. Jam, preserves and apple butter were on our table. There were two types of sausage and a warmer with bacon. My husband and I had the chicken sausage and both enjoyed it very much. I was happy to see there were options other than pork, as I am allergic. There were American redskin potatoes (cut up, cubed w/ peels on) and those were good. They weren't really seasoned, but I just added pepper and some ketchup and hot sauce. There were also mini quiches. I didn't try them. You can order eggs any style, including omelets, and there was a list of several ingredient options. I had an omelet with spinach and mushrooms, no cheese. It was actually very good! There were trays with meat and cheeses, but this must be a popular item, because it was running low. I also saw a cast iron warming pot with oatmeal, and again, many mix-in items. There was also a table with a variety of single serve packages of cereals, I also saw granola, milk, Silk vanilla or chocolate single servings, and a lot of really great fresh fruit: green melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The fruit was fresh and delicious! I took some of the whipped cream from the waffle area for the fruit and yum. There were also individual packs of yogurt. I am not sure if I remembered all of the many options, but if I found more than enough to eat (being picky and having allergies), then I'm sure anyone would be happy with this breakfast bar. The server was attentive, and I really appreciate this considering I have experienced many servers who slack off when the table orders the buffet. He made sure our food was good, we had what we needed, our water glasses were full, and he cleared away our dishes, and never rushed us. It was an excellent end to our stay at the JW. I would definitely recommend the breakfast buffet at Six One Six.

During my stay in Grand Rapids, I ate dinner and breakfast here. Like the hotel its situated in, the restaurant is gorgeous - modern and bright. It could fit in to any large city, and it is priced accordingly. Truthfully, I was rather surprised about how expensive it was - entrees are pretty much all north of $30 with most appetizers in the teens. For a three course meal with a drink, expect to spend north of $75-80/person. The food: As far as dinner, I went with the Chef's soup, which was a roasted red pepper - it wasn't quite a bisque and it wasn't quite a puree. I can't really describe it other than it tasted like red pepper and cayenne. It was a bit monotone in taste and my least favorite of anything I tasted. However, there was a great bread basket, with garlic butter - made up for the pedestrian soup. The salmon entree was amazing - perfectly crispy skin gave it a richness and nutty depth of flavor you ordinarily don't find in salmon. So delicious that I contemplated ordering a second. The malted chocolate torte, with malted milk mousse was phenomenal - not too sweet and was clearly made from high quality ingredients. For breakfast, the buffet is the best value. $17 gets you made to order omelettes, plus other good stuff like smoked salmon, italian meats, cheeses, pastries, and then your regular run of the mill stuff like bacon/sausage/potatoes etc. The omelette was made perfectly to my liking - not oily, well done but yet fluffy on the inside. The service: I would say as good as the food was, the service was below average. Some of the lowlights were: At dinner, the server (who was probably a local high school student) brought out my soup to my colleague and described it as the beet salad she ordered. The following morning, I was at the restaurant for at least a half hour and nothing (and I literally mean nothing) was replenished on the breakfast bar. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars. Lots of highs and lows. The food was generally pretty good - the crispy skin on the salmon was reason enough to round up. Six one Six needs to reassess the weakness of its service though - too many flaws for a restaurant that is charging that much money.

I went here with my wife for a glass of wine and an appetizer. We ordered the cheesy pesto flatbread and it was perfect. Crunchy crust, wonderful pesto, a few sun dried tomatoes. The view was the best part. Being able to sit outside overlooking the Grand river was a real treat. I look forward to returning to try more of the food.

This place was exceptional. We arrived on a busy Friday night, no reservations, and sat outdoors. We asked about sitting at one of the more comfortable cabana booths and they upgraded us right away. Not only was the atmosphere great, the service was excellent, and the food was even better. Had the truffle fries as an appetizer, and they were phenomenal! I don't generally eat Mayonnaise, but the dark truffle mayo was to die to for. For dinner I had the New York Strip. The steak was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and juicy on the inside. Desert may have been the best part though. The raspberry puree that the Lemon Meyer Mousse sits on top was a foodgasm in my mouth. This restaurant had excellent service, locally sourced ingredients, and amazing food. I would stop by again if I were in the area.

Good food, good ambiance and good customer service. They even have the valet bring your car up when you are done dining so when you walk out the door, your car is already there. Very good experience as it was my first time there.

Delicious cocktails, $10-12 each. Sat in one of the outdoor cabanas on the river for 7pm drinks before dinner and it was WONDERFUL. Awesome atmosphere. My only complaint is that the staff was all standing around when we walked in and no one smiled at us- it was quite rude! I hate going out to places where the employees obviously don't want to be working.

Vegans beware! We were in a large party on Christmas Day, and the person making our reservation noted that we had three vegans in the group. The server acknowledged this when we were seated, and said "the chef will be happy to make whatever you want," before going back to check in with the kitchen. A full 15 minutes later, it turns out the chef actually meant, "here are the side dishes on the printed menu that are vegan, and you can have any of these." So our daughter got pasta that came out the first time with cheese on it, and we got two decent salads for $11 each, dry lentils in tomato sauce and indelicately spiced couscous for what must have been a small fortune -- we didn't see the bill. The restaurant didn't seem very busy, but the service was very slow. Table was set with bread plates and butter knives, but no bread was offered. Surprisingly, dessert came out very fast and was pretty reasonably priced. Giving the restaurant two stars only because the waitstaff was exceptionally friendly. If you are into big hunks of meat, give it a shot. But the rest of the dining scene in Grand Rapids seems to be stepping up its vegan game, and this place needs to catch up.

I was staying at the JW for a business trip and needed to take my client to dinner before our mediation set for the next day. Six One Six seemed like the perfect fit- easy to find and just fancy enough to not be obnoxious. I would have loved to tried the rabbit perogies, but I was saving my appetite (for Reserve) and didn't want to seem like a glutton in front of my client. Instead I ordered the pan seared steel head as my main course. Perfectly cooked. And those pickled ramp bulbs? To die for. I could have eaten an entire plate of just those. The service was hotel-nice. Completely efficient, but not very warm (and this is coming from a Bostonian!). For dessert we had the chevre cheesecake. Because, seriously, goat cheese cheesecake. I was in heaven. I can't think of a better dessert I've had in recent times. Keeping in mind I'm a goat cheese fiend. I wish the indoor atmosphere wasn't so hotel-y, but, it is in a hotel. And for a hotel restaurant? Fabulous.

Came here for Restaurant Week. This was the first upscale dining experience we'd had as a couple in GR. I took a star off as it was a full 30-45 minutes before our server came by (I think someone may have forgotten that we were actually seated) and it was a busy night on Restaurant Week, so perhaps the staff weren't accustomed to the volume of diners. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, with a view of the river, though it was a little too cold to venture out for long despite the torches. On to the food. The mixed salad was good, though the flavors didn't seem to come together for me. Braised pork shoulder for the BF, and grilled Michigan Lake Trout. I'd had less-than-savory experiences with trout in various restaurants before, as it's about the fishiest fish I've had, so was reluctant on the choice of entree, but it turns out I needn't have worried. Fish was delectable, perfect. The trio of gelatos was delicious, with the mint standing out from the rest. All in all an evening well-spent.

Six One Six is a great spot to pick up a meal, brunch or after the show snack in the downtown area. It can be pricey for a dinner but lunch and breakfast rates are quite reasonable. I appreciate the local sourcing for many items used in meal prepartion. In fact, during the summer an organic garden just outside the restaurant which is along the river provides fresh produce and herbs for the kitchen. The kitchen is an 'open format' style affair. This sometimes allows for interesting conversation with the chef , who by the way, prepares some of the best omlettes available in GR for Sunday brunch. While the brunch menu is not as extensive as one would find in say a place like Charlie's Crab or the Spinnaker, it can be a nice spot to spend a relaxed Sunday morning or afternoon. If you're heading out after a downtown show or later in the evening, you might enjoy getting drinks and snacks at Mixology, the adjacent bar area which often features live music. We usually opt for a quieter setting in the restaurant and have always found the service and food to be above par. Favorites on the menu: flat bread appetizers, Trout Menuiere and their ever changing repetoire of intresting and flavorful soups!

This place has single handedly restored my opinion that hotel restaurants can actually be good. While staying at the JW recently we gave in and surrendered to our phobia of hotel restaurants...and glad we did. Veal chop, best we ever had. Duck confit salad and frisee with poached egg salad...awesome. In attempt to order the most unassuming and hopefully disappointing dish ('cause I really wanted something bad to happen all while supporting my mentioned phobia) I ordered the vegetarian dish. I'm not vegetarian. The pumpkin agnolotti was one of the best plates I had on our two week food vacation. Service and atmosphere matched the food. Perfect.

The chef really knows how to make there seasonal menus unique. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We will recommend Six One Six to our friends and family.

Went here for a business dinner. We started with some sushi as an appetizer. It was great! For dinner I had the olive oil poached Alaskan halibut, but ordered without the pork belly. It was also fantastic. The menu is minimal, but the food is great. Makes or easier choice in ordering!

Nice Sunday morning breakfast buffet. Fresh ingredients, nicely prepared by a friendly chef. My only negative is our server was slow and was almost never visable. Not acceptable in my book. I would likely rate at 3.5 stars, but not possible so I will give the JW the benefit of a 4 star rating.

The atmosphere is nice, but the food is really bad. I've eaten here around five times and not once had anything that was memorable, or even average, which is unacceptable for the prices they charge. A few particularly bad memories: short ribs with a mole sauce that was oppressively bitter and a cilantro pesto that somehow managed to taste stale, all served over cloying mashed sweet potatoes. A rabbit porchetta that was not properly prepared and was left with several tiny rabbit bone fragments in the stuffing - I had to spit these into my napkin, which made me feel quite uncouth in a five star hotel, and if I was a little bitch I would further complain about the choking hazard that presents. A duck pastrami appetizer that was unpleasantly cold, served with overly-sweet candied kumquats over the top of more sweet caramel. Frog legs with a greasy, half-battered look that were barely crisped and cold in the middle, served with a "remoulade" that looked and tasted nothing more than capers chopped up in some hellman's mayo. The food is always whatever's trendy, and though I am amiable to having sweet components in my savory dishes, the kitchen here can never achieve an acceptable balance. I don't knock restaurants in the midwest for having eclectic menus - there simply isn't the demand here to do specialized cuisine one would see in coastal urban areas. However, six.one.six's "global" theme borders on Epcot-level silliness. This restaurant, which I assume is a loss leader for the hotel because it never seems to have many people dining, can afford to focus a little more. No restaurant with a sushi bar and sushi menu (yes, they have sushi; no, i will never try it here) should also be serving moles, parisian gnocchi, scottish salmon, creole-style frog legs, grilled kielbasa, a salad lyonnaise, and a new york strip topped with brown butter hollandaise. this is not an exaggeration - most of these items are still on the current menu, as is the sushi. Those with sensitive food allergies should also avoid this place. I once went with a dining companion who is gluten and dairy intolerant (i know, what a shitty life, and i'd say fuck them but it's my mom). the waitress went back with the chef to confer over what would be safe, and they concluded that panko bread crumbs are gluten free (they're not), and also did not seem to grasp that butter is a dairy product. I had very high hopes for this restaurant when it opened, and continued to give it chances, reasoning that my next meal would be better. I know at this point it won't be, and I can't justify the expense until drastic changes are made to their menu and cooking style.

This is a great place! It's right next to the Grand River in JW Marriott... I have to say, I saw some very unique items on the menu..For instance the Carrot ginger soup! They also have great appetizers and good portions..Try the stuffed zucchini blossoms.. they have a very sharp taste but are fried so definitely taste yummy! :) I also had the farmer's market hot pot, and it was supposed to have fresh veggies with rice dumplings.. I didn't really think it was a big eat, it was almost like another soup..I asked them to make it super spicy, and they actually did. Also, try the lemon basil gelatto.. very refreshing!! For great ambiance and unique menu..I give it 4 stars!

Delicious food. Service was very good. What you would expect in a JW. The food is to the haute cuisine side of typical midwest fare - which means the plates aren't absurdly overflowing with fried shit and food that is bland on the palate. Proportions were very reasonable (they don't feed 20), and dishes interesting. Several of us shared a lamb vindaloo flatbread type of appetizer which was fantastic, but I enjoy Indian food quite a bit. Instead of a salad I had a smoked calamari dish which was very tasty and very flavorful, but a bit odd. I was very curious as to what this prepartion would be like - have you ever heard of smoked squid? It was good, but I wouldn't get it again. The portion size however was perfect for one. My entree was the New York strip. I'm not typically a NY Strip kind of guy, but I was in the mood for beef and it was cooked precisely how I ordered (a big plus) and the vegetable of the day was broccoli. The broccoli was perfect and the steak seasoned just right. I left an empty plate, but didn't order an appetizer. I'm happy with that.

We went here awhile back for our wedding anniversary. We were very impressed with the food and service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and his suggestions were very helpful. The food was extremely good. One of our top spots the Grand Rapids area. We will defiantly be going back.

My wife and I absolutely love the six one six at the JW. The food is always excellent, and the menu changes alot with the seasons. They serve dishes with ingredients from local farms. I wish they still had the wine and cheese flight sampler, that was always awesome. We almost always get the cheese board when we are there, it's a must eat! Great atmosphere for a fancy night out or a special occassion.

Took a group of esteemed musicians (including the guest conductor and soloist) for drinks and food after a GR Symphony concert. They wouldn't seat us in the dining room so we had to bus our own tables in the lounge to sit down. Drinks were slow, food was slower, trying to pay was the slowest and then they put a 20% gratuity on top just to seal the deal. Our waitress tripped over the soloist's violin (in it's case). We didn't tell her it was a Stradivarius from 1683.

Our family of six enjoys very much the breakfast buffet. Awesome coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, and best waffles ever. Great omelets and great service as you would expect. This has also been a Christmas morning tradition, for which you'll need a reservation.

Liked the contemporary setting and style of the restaurant - gives you a "big city" feel. The service was attentive and fast. We were seated close to a group being real noisy which made it impossible for us to have any conversation without yelling at each other. Upon our request, we were moved to another table. All tables are real close to each other and I would not consider it being a quiet romantic place. The ordered sushi sampler was plenty but not great - as frequent sushi lover's we struggled with the fact that the consistency of the rice balls would not hold but just fall apart when being dipped into the soya ginger combo. It was fresh but not rich in flavor. We both ordered the loin of lamb which we felt being a disappointment. It was an interesting combo of thin sliced lamb loin on top of a "stew" of polenta and beans, beans, beans. We liked the place but did not care for the food at all.I rated it 3 star for the service and location only

We were right by the riverfront windows on a beautiful sunny weekday evening. I had the NY Strip, it was fantastic and prepared exactly how I wanted it. Could have used more of the sides but I was pleasantly full after the meal. Service was quick, attentive, and very friendly. My only real complaint is that it is fairly noisy for an upscale place. The bar was behind us; the blender and martini ice shaking was loud enough to drown out conversation. The full table behind me was so close that the servers had to squeeze between us, and they pump the bass heavy music throughout the entire hotel nonstop. It's too loud in the lobbies and restrooms, and could stand to be a notch quieter in the dining room. I was completely unable to hear any of the conversation from the other end of our (large) table. The food is pretty pricey, but I was lucky enough to have someone else buying this time. Not a place I would go to all that often due to the $$, but it's nice for a special occasion, although it's not a very cozy place if you're looking for a romantic dinner.

Just a quick review to say that we enjoyed terrific service at one of their nifty outdoor cabanas on the river & I had literally the BEST CLUB SANDWICH I have ever had in my entire life on this planet. And I always order the club, so this is from the perspective of years & years of club sandwiches. Someone told me that Marriott sunk a bunch of cash into researching/designing the perfect club & I have to say HATS OFF. Money WELL SPENT. Just phenomenal.

Good food if not a little pretentious. A nice location in a hip spot next to the river with good views, and an open ceiling in the JW Marriott hotel. The flatbread was great, and the sushi sampler was fresh and simple. The soups were a bit overpowering in flavors.

This is a special occasion place because the menu is expensive...but it is top of the line food with great presentation and our server was friendly and attentive .We sat in a wonderful booth with a view of the river and everything we ordered was amazing...and yes you must try one of their flat breads. We had one that had steak and blue cheese...yum. After dinner we took a glass of wine and sat outside to really enjoy the view. It was a great way to end the night.Also on many occasions we sit just outside the restaurant in the lounge area and order flat breads and plates of sushi and cocktails...it makes for a great casual night !!

A decent place, but I would advise going with its strengths and avoiding its weaknesses. The dining and bar areas are upscale and modern-appearing. The service varies - sometimes very good, sometimes not so much. Lately, I've found it to be decent but nothing spectacular. IMO, a restaurant's service should always be great, but can only get away with any hint of rudeness or snobbery if the food is spectacular and exclusive. This is not, so the service here should strive to be friendly and prompt 100% of the time. The dinner menu is somewhat sparse and a bit overpriced. I found the seared duck breast to be fair at best. I've had the steak (filet) twice - cooked correctly on only one of those occasions. I've felt the truffle fries to not have much "truffle" about them. The lunch menu actually has, what I feel to be, better value items. The sandwiches are good and I did enjoy the pork belly tacos and sushi rolls. The breakfast is the best. They have a really nice breakfast buffet with everything from fresh waffles and made-to-order omelettes to smoked salmon and fresh fruit. Another nice part of the breakfast buffet is that it bypasses the service for the most part. I give the breakfast here 4.5 stars, the lunch 3.75 stars and the dinner 2.5 stars for an average rating of about 3.5 stars. I would love to see this place come up to the quality of somewhere like the W in San Francisco or even The Bazaar at the SLS in LA.

We've eaten here probably 20-30 times, and each time it's been very good. Drinks are creative and well done, the bar's a great place to sit and have a conversation. Truffle fries are phenomenal, as are almost all the soups, flatbreads shockingly good. The service can be iffy at times, and we have a running joke about how inappropriately dressed the hostess was the last time we dined (ALL the good china doesn't have to be on display at once, honey!). And while live music is great, when they have bands performing in the bar area it can be deafening. The food is really, really good though and worth the price (which seems rather reasonable to me). We've been here for date nights, business lunches, family dinners, etc. all have been good.

Amazing food and beautiful ambiance! I was pleasantly surprised and will make it a point to go the next time I'm in Grand Rapids. One thing to keep in mind if you're bringing children; the kids food is a bit more sophisticated than most places offer. For example, the burger has a purposefully charred outer layer and the pizza has a strong Parmesan taste. I, of course, thought both were very good...my child did not. To summarize, definitely go, it's incredible! ...Just don't bring highly picky children.

It was just this past Wednesday the 24th of June, me my boyfriend and a friend of ours decided to go try out six one six breakfast because we had heard great things about it. My boyfriend really just wanted to celebrate his birthday by going to a nice place and getting some mimosas and maybe sit on the patio. I called several times to the restaurant to see if the patio was open but no response so we weren't even sure if you guys were open. We had just got out of working out at GRCC and we quick stopped home to shower before we came. My boyfriend and I showed up in active athletic wear and our friend in a v neck and jeans. We didn't know that was going to make such a difference in our experience. We walk in, the patio wasn't open but patio wasn't open. At the host stand we stood there for about 2 minutes before anyone said anything to us. Finally the host got back and asked us for how many, we said 3 and she walked away again for another couple mins. About 5 mins goes by of just standing there she says "hold on I have to get a table cleaned off in the back room." Once again she took at least another 5 mins before coming back. We noticed there were several tables in the restaurant that were clean. Wasn't exactly sure if she had to seat a specific server once more or she couldn't figure out where she could seat us. As we stood by the host stand looking clueless and feeling helpless per se, NO ONE said a word to us. No one had asked if we had been helped or wanted to help us. Now, my boyfriend and I have been in the service industry for many years and currently work in a restaurant for quite some time together and we have NEVER had to wait over 10 mins to get sat, yet feel completely ignored. We always try to get our guests sat immediately and promptly. We felt that if she had to go clean off one specific table for us, had she not had any clean tables ready for the next guests behind us? So basically we just thought it was quite absurd that we waited over 10 minutes to be sat. And that was just the beginning of our experience. As we got sat I saw again a few tables that were clean that could've been sat so once again I didn't quite understand why it took so long. We finally sat down and I noticed a server from a distance kind of give "sigh" or a distraught look. I thought oh maybe we are her table, because if we are she clearly does not want us. I kid you not, we literally sat for another 10 minutes before being greeted by anyone. Most importantly our server, but multiple servers walked past us without saying a word. And from my experience as a server even if a table is not in your section and you may notice they haven't been greeted, you still stop by "oh hey have you guys been helped?" Or something? Servers cleaning & resetting tables and nothing has been said to us. I said to my bf that I am so sorry that your birthday is starting like this, but if we don't get greeted in like two minutes I will ask to speak to a manager which is something we didn't wanna do. We just wanted to get some service is all. At this point I'm quite furious, my boyfriend is quite calm but I'm just holding my head down to not show any facial expressions. She didn't seem enthused at all when greeting us because all she said was "hi, sorry guys I was caught up. My name is April. What do you guys wanna drink?" We already had water so my boyfriend asks for a cocktail menu. She says there's no morning bartender. Ok well we just wanted to do mimosas what do you suggest we asked and if she mumm Napa and she said we have this and this (whatever they were called) and we asked her which one she suggested or which would be better, didn't even ask about price. She just said, "I'll just go get you a glass list." Also she didn't give us any spiel or ask us if it was our first time. We have never been there so we don't know how the buffet works and what's included. So i decided to just go out on a whim and go to the buffet. My boyfriend stayed at the table to order a bottle of champagne, And that also took her 10 mins no lie to get it because she had to wait to ring it in to check all of our ideas which I get but she was just really talking her sweet time about everything from sauces I asked her for. After she brought us the champagne we didn't even see her again. No refills on the champagne and I don't know if that's strange but when my tables order champagne or wine we take the initiative to refill their glasses. By habit I was stacking plates and clearing stuff to the side to help her, she came by once and by the look on her face I could instantly tell she finally knew we were servers. We wanted our check and had to ask another server to grab ours to get it. April said "sorry I don't wanna rush you guys." She came back and said so we don't have anything left to give for a birthday so I took 20% off of your bill. I knew she did it BC she knew her service was not good. We left her 20 on 86 which we felt was more than generous.

We had a medium size group for dinner on New Years Eve. In my eyes the food was horrible and the service was just as bad. I had a NY Strip and one of my friends had the fillet and another had Ahi Tuna. Both steaks were cooked to well done when we ordered them medium rare. The tuna was extremely dry as well. For a establishment that charges $40+ for a steak with only one side I was expecting a lot better. I give them two stars due to the view and their appetizers, not their main course meals.

I loved the setup in Six One Six - really great ambiance and decor. I came here for dinner (table of 1) and sat at the large table that surrounded the kitchen. I thought they had a great wine list and enjoyed a california cabernet with my dinner. I tried two things: 1. The octopus appetizer - I thought it was well seasoned and had great presentation, but it was chewy. They need to massage the octopus more and cook it on a lower heat setting 2. Monkfish - the cornbread side they had for it was a miss. I love corn and cornbread, but this cornbread pudding was oddly sweet, the fish not savory enough, and something was just missing. I wasn't the biggest fan of the food, but I thought the service was amazing and the decor/ambiance really nice.

This is a good restaurant in a very convenient location. The JW is a high scale hotel and i think Six one Six is a suitable restaurant to fit into its lobby. The service i had was great, they were prompt, fast and polite. The food was very good, though i only had an appetizer and a salad. It was slightly overpriced but again your at a JW Marriott hotel, that is to be expected. I was pleasantly surprised how good the sushi was! it was delicious. The atmosphere and aesthetics cant be beat! with a view in the back that is amazing! Overall good spot.

Overall a good experience . The menu was tasty the service was a tad slow on this day. i have to say the prices are pretty steep for certain things i had the brussel sprout salad which was very tasty..but it was 11 bucks and I got about 2 ounces worth of salad. Literally, i would say it was 3 forks worth of salad for 11 dollars. Seems a touch out of bounds. Its a wonderful menu overall, but this was probably one of the most expensive meals I have had anywhere in the US. So while the food is tasty, I do think its borderline 20% too high on price, or 30% too low in serving portions...just saying. when you add a drink, salad/app, entree and dessert, you are at 70 bucks a head plus tip.

She was knowledgeable about the menu and explained things clearly. As far as the food, it was well worth the price. At $32, I had a plate of Mahi Mahi with couscous. It was delicious. The flavor profile made sense. It wasn't over pretentious. The only thing I would have changed if I could is that I would have toasted the couscous a little before cooking it. I think when its toasted it just kind of lifts the flavor a bit. Otherwise a great dish. This is definitely worth the visit.

six one six is a good restaurant. the mediocre adjective "good" being used very purposefully here. the environment is somewhat stuffy and it takes a drink ir two to make you comfortable. the jazz band that plays is a nice touch and the whole place eminates class, but it falls short in true substance. the food is good but not exceptional. the smoked beet salad is a great combination of flavors and the roasted cauliflower dish has an exceptional butternut squash ratatouille but otherwise, the menu is somewhat dull. they have a wide selection of wines but nothing remarkable. the server i had was nice but clearly not experienced. his knowledge of the menu seemed merely read out of a book rather than a true knowing of the food. six one six is in my best description hollow. it has a shell of extreme class but it's the restaurant a boring, uncultured, early 30's couple goes to for a "fancy" date night. menu items are overpriced and meant to impress a very average crowd. anyone with a deep knowledge of food or wine would be unimpressed.

We had breakfast in here one morning. Everything is priced accordingly - meaning it's your typical expensive hotel breakfast. I opted for the buffet was I was in a bit of a hurry to eat and head off to my meeting. They had no eggs on the buffet - instead you place your order with the Chef behind the counter and he makes it fresh on the spot for you. I went with the breakfast potatoes and bacon - solid, stick to your ribs food. Service was good, I thought the coffee was a little on the weak side. Six One Six is also directly connected to Mixology - the hotel bar.

We had an amazing breakfast experience here on a busy Sunday morning. I am not usually a buffet person, but wow this buffet is not only completely worth the $19 price with the selection of food, everything was fresh and delicious. You can't a buffet when they will cook eggs to order, any way that you would like. The bacon is wonderful-thick and cooked through without being burnt and too crispy. The buffet includes juice and coffee, so the price is even better when you consider how much these items usually cost in a hotel. We left so full and satisfied. They are also a great place to go with kids-clever activity book and lots of kid meal choices for all meal periods.

I I have never been to a restaurant where they charge for the water. At the beginning of the meal they asked if we preferred sparkling or still, and we asked if we could get both. I just wish there would have been some mention of the $18 charge which was coming, as it was 3x the cost of my alcoholic drink. They come out hot, aren't loaded in grease, and the dipping sauce is great. I also love that they utilize local sources. The live music is a wonderful touch, and 99% of the staff we interacted with from the time we walked up to the hotel to the time we left was pleasant, accommodating and cheery. Now, the OK - I had the artisnal cheese plate and was disappointed in the kind of bread they served with it (too stale, too toasted small rounds) and the kinds of cheese offered. While the waitress was eager to bring as much extra bread to eat it with as I wanted, the bread was so hard and crumbly (like you take a bite and it falls apart all over the place) that I told her no, and ate part of the cheese without any bread. The cheeses were yummy, but they weren't anything that would knock your socks off or that you couldn't find at your regular grocery store down the street. The spread was eclectic though - there was marcona almonds, a jam, and some other different items. I see now on their site they offer the artisnal cheese plate WITH the charceuterie, and I think that's a good move on their part. The Kale salad my boyfriend had was phenomenal - but way too small. Our waitress even said it was one of the "larger" salads and it was maybe 3/4 cup in the bottom of this gigantic bowl. Finally, the bad - Where do I start? I ordered a glass of red wine and received 3, maybe 3.5 ounces of it. To me, this is sparse. I was expecting a regular 5 ounce glass of red wine. Just the look of it in the glass was ridiculous. I ordered the Brussels sprouts salad to start. The name of it was "Brussels Sprouts Salad" and under the title/name, it listed some other ingredients like arugula, and I think panchetta plus a vinaigrette. There was ONE Brussels sprout in the salad. One. I'm serious. It was arugula plus the panchetta, plus the dressing and a Brussels sprout cut in half. Why in the world would you call something a Brussels Sprout Salad and then only put ONE Brussel sprout in it?! WHY!?!?! (I love Brussels sprouts, so this was extremely disappointing to me.) My boyfriend's flatbread was just all sorts of disappointing - the crust tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen aisle of the store, and the flavors were disappointing. Overall, this place has so much POTENTIAL, but is leaning on its name (JW Marriott) and the fact that they source local ingredients way too heavily to make up for the areas they are lacking in (creativity, portion size, pricing, etc.). When you add all this up and slap on their prices, you come out with a place I'd tell everyone to avoid.

The main dishes were excellent. The salmon and duck were perfectly cooked. A cheese plate appetizer had a great selection of cheeses and excellent plum jam, but came only with oil-soaked, crispy bread. Our waiter needed to be prompted to bring soft bread, and by then, the main dishes had come. (5/5 for quality of food). Service was very poor for this category of restaurant. We had reserved a table a week ahead through open table, but had to eat at a table in the lounge/Marriott lobby "due to a graduation party." Staff did not respond to requests for a more comfortable seating arrangement, and there were drunk business people around where we were seated, making for a poor (special celebration) experience despite the high quality of the food.

Wish I can give 3.5 stars because in the world of hotel lobby restaurants, I think this is one of the best I've been to. But yelp is not best of the worst, it's supposed to be an absolute measure. I ordered the burger and a glass of Malbec. I sat next to the GM of the hotel (also into photography, and a pretty cool guy). By the time I got my burger, which was actually quite good, I'm convinced the waiter had visited the GM's table 3-4x and I hadn't gotten any attention (water refills, requests for more wine, etc). Look I understand, take care of your own, but I'm sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. After you're done coddling his meatballs, come ask how I'm doing! Give me an update on my burger that I ordered 15 minutes ago! They also had live music, which in my opinion is a huge plus. Definitely worth a visit if they have band, or if you're staying in the hotel, but otherwise I'd probably recommend a brewery or one of the restaurants in town over 616. Which is the area code.

I've only had the breakfast buffet here but it's very good. The bacon is delicious and the made to order omelettes and eggs are well executed by the staff. I believe they'll also make waffles to order as well. The potatoes are good and they have some more exotic fare like smoked salmon. Service is professional and efficient. If I recall the buffet is a bit pricy - $18 I think - but as long as you're planning on having more than a muffin you'll probably agree it's worth it.

First let me preface this review with the fact that I've traveled the country to fine dining restaurants, New York, Miami, Houston, L.A., and thoroughly love a high end meal experience, and while this is only Grand Rapids 616's prices were in the 5 star category even in major metropolitan cities. We ordered a couple drinks, very well prepared, sitting on the riverfront terrace the scene and weather was great. We started with truffle fries as we have heard good things about them, they were tasty. My date ordered the filet medium, which came out very nicely, and presented nice. This is where the "okay" experience ends. I ordered the charred New York strip cooked medium which she described as warm pink center, one of there specialties and potatoes. It came charred, with a raw grayish pink center, it was a very poor steak, no flavor other than the hint of burnt taste. The potatoes had ZERO seasoning, I mean nothing. And the asparagus matched the flavor of the steak, burnt. Our waitress did not check on us once while I ate this piece of cheap steak. When she returned and we were already both done eating, she didn't ask how the meal was so I made a point to tell her I wasn't impressed with the steak. In which she argued "well when I dropped it off at your table you said it was fine". To which I responded it "looked" fine until I started to eat it. She didn't seem to care to much that my $40 steak was sub-par but graciously came back and said she discounted my $120 ticket to $112 for the inconvenience. I didn't ask for any monetary refund, maybe just some service, and willingness to make an expensive average meal a decent experience. When she returned to pick up the signed copy she offered a free dessert to make up for it, we declined. Would I return? Maybe, but never to order that meal again, possibly for the outdoor seating and a drink. Is it a high end restaurant, maybe for the area, but not in the culinary world, they lacked the food to match the atmosphere. I would also expect the service to be more helpful, polite, and responsive in a fine dining experience. The steak offerings were way overpriced, the $40 NY strip was bland and lacked a real beef taste compared to a $32 ribeye at Houston's. Plan to spend $100+ for a party of 2.

Admittedly I didn't get to see the full menu, nor was I spoiled for choice by the menu I was given. We were in Grand Rapids for a biz conference so we had a fixed menu of 4-6 items. This review exists solely to talk about eating the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life. Yes, in my whole life. And I love some fish tacos. The fish is fried as per usual, but the flakiness and crispness of the fry is delicate yet crunchy and satisfying... Pretty much perfect. The waitress asks about a homemade hot sauce with it and I can hardly contain myself from yelling Hell Yes. The sauce is awesome, like a salsa verde with a little more heat, again perfectly complimenting the crispy fish and the srirachi-esque mayo. I can tell this place would be perfect for any time of day, highly highly recommend.

After a 2 1/2 hr drive to Grand Rapids I was starving. It may not seem long to you, but I get hungry every hour! I checked into my room at the nicest Marriott I've come across and ran down to this restaurant located within the hotel. Eating by myself isn't ever fun, but at least the food was delish! After devouring a warm, soft homemade bread basket (mmm- love the carbs) I ordered a very fresh tasting salad with miso dressing. And I followed this up with some sort of tomato flat bread that was perfectly crispy. The waitresses and hostesses are are super nice, but being nice seems to be a prerequisite to living in Grand Rapids. The service was a tad bit on the slow side, but I was also eating extra fast since I was here by my lonesome. I had a few yummy meals when in Grand Rapids...and this was one of my favorites!

Went back to six.one.six because last year it was amazing. It was delicious, but not as remembered. Had the truffle fries again. They seemed a bit too crispy and brown, almost like burnt potato chips. Maybe they were just overcooked? Last year I went for lunch, this time for dinner. I enjoyed the j dub martini. Anything with Chambord is going to be good! For the main course, my friend had 2 of the sushi tools, which looked fresh and fabulous. She let me try one of them, yumtastic. I had Otto's Chicken, and man, do I wish chicken always tasted this good! Though some may view getting chicken at a "fancy" restaurant as a cop out, this is no ordinary chicken dish. New experience eating cranberry beans...they are alright. The arugula and andouille sausage with the chicken were great. For dessert, we revisited the dessert of my dreams, the chèvre cheesecake. This time it was paired with a spicy pear compote..mmm. GO TO six.one.six! It is the trifecta of stellar food, service, and ambiance.

Stayed at the JW for the weekend with my boyfriend, and decided to have breakfast before we checked out. It was fairly busy, but we were seated shortly. We ordered off of the menu, as opposed to the buffet, and it took about 30 minutes to receive our food. The omelette I ordered was probably the biggest I've ever seen, and was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the blueberry pancakes, and they were really good as well. The food was delicious, and the service was great, but it just took a bit to get to the table.

Had a business lunch here and it was a nice treat. I had an ahi tuna salad which was great, could've used some more tuna but the flavors in the salad were awesome. Service was really good, there was 6 of us and the waitress did an awesome job! Really nice atmosphere as you'd expect of a restaurant in a JW. Prices were on the high side but again considering the location there not above what you'd expect. Treat yourself and someone else to a really nice dining experience.

Love the name of this restaurant and how they incorporate "Michigan" in their menu. Although I didn't have it, the blueberry froyo made from Michigan blueberries sounded delicious. I had a very nice server who came around just enough to check how things were. She recommended the Tempura Tuna with house made fire sauce (not too spicy- so that's good) and the Mussels. It also came with naan but was way to full to eat it with the meal. I also had the Grand Marnier Tres Leches with a cherry compote and lemon meringue. The truffle fries are actually garlic fries! And the management will argue with you if you call them on it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Protip: if your fries actually have truffle oil, they won't need heaps of garlic (or any, for that matter.) Sorry, this place is over-priced, the service is terrible and the food is predictable and ill-combined. Am I being a spoiled Chicagoan? Maybe, but I still advise you to go somewhere else. I think there is a better use for your time and money. We stayed one night at the hotel while on a trip to Michigan and decided to be lazy and stay for dinner. Not such a good idea after all: food was below average and our server was simply rude. He barely greeted us and later on interrupted my dinner to ask for an ID. I was half way through my starter (the charcuterie plate, the only good thing) so I said I was sorry but I left my driver's licence in my room upstairs; perhaphs I could pick it up later at the end of the dinner? Apparently not. He insisted so I went to fetch it but I received no apologies for the inconvenience. I thought that was rude but anyway. The food: the fries are oily and with more garlic than truffle. Not worth the hype. Our mains (both priced more than 30$) were simply not so good: the rabbit was tough and so full of mustard we could not finish it. My ravioli were undercooked, I could clearly see the dough being still white and firm as I bit into them. We shared a dessert, the bread pudding, which was flavorless. Limited choice of wine and spirits: I got a glass of rosé and it was unusually sour. For this, we paid more than 80$ per person. To sum up, not a good experience.

The cheeses were yummy, but they weren't anything that would knock your socks off or that you couldn't find at your regular grocery store down the street. The spread was eclectic though - there was marcona almonds, a jam, and some other different items. I see now on their site they offer the artisnal cheese plate WITH the charceuterie, and I think that's a good move on their part. The Kale salad my boyfriend had was phenomenal - but way too small. Our waitress even said it was one of the "larger" salads and it was maybe 3/4 cup in the bottom of this gigantic bowl. Finally, the bad - Where do I start? I ordered a glass of red wine and received 3, maybe 3.5 ounces of it. To me, this is sparse. I was expecting a regular 5 ounce glass of red wine. Just the look of it in the glass was ridiculous. I ordered the Brussels sprouts salad to start. The name of it was "Brussels Sprouts Salad" and under the title/name, it listed some other ingredients like arugula, and I think panchetta plus a vinaigrette. There was ONE Brussels sprout in the salad. One. I'm serious. It was arugula plus the panchetta, plus the dressing and a Brussels sprout cut in half. Why in the world would you call something a Brussels Sprout Salad and then only put ONE Brussel sprout in it?! WHY!?!?! (I love Brussels sprouts, so this was extremely disappointing to me.) My boyfriend's flatbread was just all sorts of disappointing - the crust tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen aisle of the store, and the flavors were disappointing. Overall, this place has so much POTENTIAL, but is leaning on its name (JW Marriott) and the fact that they source local ingredients way too heavily to make up for the areas they are lacking in (creativity, portion size, pricing, etc.). When you add all this up and slap on their prices, you come out with a place I'd tell everyone to avoid.

This place was exceptional. We arrived on a busy Friday night, no reservations, and sat outdoors. We asked about sitting at one of the more comfortable cabana booths and they upgraded us right away. Not only was the atmosphere great, the service was excellent, and the food was even better. Had the truffle fries as an appetizer, and they were phenomenal! I don't generally eat Mayonnaise, but the dark truffle mayo was to die to for. For dinner I had the New York Strip. The steak was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and juicy on the inside. Desert may have been the best part though. The raspberry puree that the Lemon Meyer Mousse sits on top was a foodgasm in my mouth. This restaurant had excellent service, locally sourced ingredients, and amazing food. I would stop by again if I were in the area.

During my stay in Grand Rapids, I ate dinner and breakfast here. Like the hotel its situated in, the restaurant is gorgeous - modern and bright. It could fit in to any large city, and it is priced accordingly. Truthfully, I was rather surprised about how expensive it was - entrees are pretty much all north of $30 with most appetizers in the teens. For a three course meal with a drink, expect to spend north of $75-80/person. The food: As far as dinner, I went with the Chef's soup, which was a roasted red pepper - it wasn't quite a bisque and it wasn't quite a puree. I can't really describe it other than it tasted like red pepper and cayenne. It was a bit monotone in taste and my least favorite of anything I tasted. However, there was a great bread basket, with garlic butter - made up for the pedestrian soup. The salmon entree was amazing - perfectly crispy skin gave it a richness and nutty depth of flavor you ordinarily don't find in salmon. So delicious that I contemplated ordering a second. The malted chocolate torte, with malted milk mousse was phenomenal - not too sweet and was clearly made from high quality ingredients. For breakfast, the buffet is the best value. $17 gets you made to order omelettes, plus other good stuff like smoked salmon, italian meats, cheeses, pastries, and then your regular run of the mill stuff like bacon/sausage/potatoes etc. The omelette was made perfectly to my liking - not oily, well done but yet fluffy on the inside. The service: I would say as good as the food was, the service was below average. Some of the lowlights were: At dinner, the server (who was probably a local high school student) brought out my soup to my colleague and described it as the beet salad she ordered. The following morning, I was at the restaurant for at least a half hour and nothing (and I literally mean nothing) was replenished on the breakfast bar. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars. Lots of highs and lows. The food was generally pretty good - the crispy skin on the salmon was reason enough to round up. Six one Six needs to reassess the weakness of its service though - too many flaws for a restaurant that is charging that much money.

It's no big secret that many restaurants' staffs, both front and back of house, can be divided into an A-team and a B-team (A being superior to B, of course), and the B-team is usually relegated to lunch. Perhaps this is why I was so unimpressed with Six One Six today: I ate lunch. I'd heard and read many good things, but my experience did not fulfill expectations. First, despite the restaurant being at a slow-to-medium level of business, the wait for the food was loooooong. No skin off my back, but an impatient diner would be annoyed. I don't give two shits how long things take--provided that the food makes me happy. Now about that... How excited I was to see a menu item like pork belly tacos with avocado crema. I mean, crispy piggy goodness in a tortilla! I'm still convinced this is a good idea, but today's offering did not deliver evidence for support. The pork, though crispy as advertised and well-seasoned, reached my mouth only marginally above room temperature. The avocado crema didn't disappoint, but was slathered on in such a quantity as to drown out the other flavors. Amplifying this unfortunate phenomenon was the fact that there just wasn't much substantive food in the tortilla. Save for the stingy portion of pork and a light dusting of queso fresco, the rest of the taco's contents were essentially condiments: the aforementioned crema, tomato guajillo sauce, and onion cilantro. The pork tacos were served with homemade tortilla chips, which were soggy and coated with a spice blend that I'm sure would be quite good if not applied with the ferocity of a sandstorm. Similarly, one would expect perch to make more than a cameo appearance in a dish called Great Lakes perch tacos, but Six One Six's rendering required deep focus to convince yourself that you were, indeed, eating fish. To be fair, the diner who ordered these asked for the perch to be pan-fried instead of deep-fried, so the version I tasted wasn't quite what the chef had intended, but again, there was so little of the fish that I can't imagine that this changed much. The perch taco was finished with a tasty sauce gribiche, but like the pork taco, the proportions of the dish's components were unforgivably out of whack. The club sandwich was garden-variety. A sun-dried tomato mayo offered a mild reprieve from the ordinary, and the nutty wheat bread on which it was served was nice, but aside from that, it was a big 'Meh.' Truffle fries, served in the traditional paper cone and sprinkled with parmigiano and herbs, were a bright spot--and would have been brighter, had they been served sufficiently hot. The dish's name is somewhat of a misnomer, as the truffle appears only in the mayonnaise accompanying the fries. This mayo was tasty, though, with an earthy undertone that may or may not have been actual truffle; whatever it was, it worked. A common theme in the hot dishes I tasted was that they were not, in fact, hot. Whether fault for this lay in the hands of the server or the kitchen, I don't know, but someone dropped the ball. I'm not ready to completely write off Six One Six, though, as there is a lot to love about the menu on a conceptual level. Perhaps my experience today was effected by a B-team that was not quite ready for prime time. Just execute! Correct those proportions, serve the food at an appropriate temperature and in an appropriate duration of time, and they're in business.

A rabbit porchetta that was not properly prepared and was left with several tiny rabbit bone fragments in the stuffing - I had to spit these into my napkin, which made me feel quite uncouth in a five star hotel, and if I was a little bitch I would further complain about the choking hazard that presents. A duck pastrami appetizer that was unpleasantly cold, served with overly-sweet candied kumquats over the top of more sweet caramel. Frog legs with a greasy, half-battered look that were barely crisped and cold in the middle, served with a "remoulade" that looked and tasted nothing more than capers chopped up in some hellman's mayo. The food is always whatever's trendy, and though I am amiable to having sweet components in my savory dishes, the kitchen here can never achieve an acceptable balance. I don't knock restaurants in the midwest for having eclectic menus - there simply isn't the demand here to do specialized cuisine one would see in coastal urban areas. However, six.one.six's "global" theme borders on Epcot-level silliness. This restaurant, which I assume is a loss leader for the hotel because it never seems to have many people dining, can afford to focus a little more. No restaurant with a sushi bar and sushi menu (yes, they have sushi; no, i will never try it here) should also be serving moles, parisian gnocchi, scottish salmon, creole-style frog legs, grilled kielbasa, a salad lyonnaise, and a new york strip topped with brown butter hollandaise. this is not an exaggeration - most of these items are still on the current menu, as is the sushi. Those with sensitive food allergies should also avoid this place. I once went with a dining companion who is gluten and dairy intolerant (i know, what a shitty life, and i'd say fuck them but it's my mom). the waitress went back with the chef to confer over what would be safe, and they concluded that panko bread crumbs are gluten free (they're not), and also did not seem to grasp that butter is a dairy product. I had very high hopes for this restaurant when it opened, and continued to give it chances, reasoning that my next meal would be better. I know at this point it won't be, and I can't justify the expense until drastic changes are made to their menu and cooking style.

This is a great place! It's right next to the Grand River in JW Marriott... I have to say, I saw some very unique items on the menu..For instance the Carrot ginger soup! They also have great appetizers and good portions..Try the stuffed zucchini blossoms.. they have a very sharp taste but are fried so definitely taste yummy! :) I also had the farmer's market hot pot, and it was supposed to have fresh veggies with rice dumplings.. I didn't really think it was a big eat, it was almost like another soup..I asked them to make it super spicy, and they actually did. Also, try the lemon basil gelatto.. very refreshing!! For great ambiance and unique menu..I give it 4 stars!

The food is to the haute cuisine side of typical midwest fare - which means the plates aren't absurdly overflowing with fried shit and food that is bland on the palate. Proportions were very reasonable (they don't feed 20), and dishes interesting. Several of us shared a lamb vindaloo flatbread type of appetizer which was fantastic, but I enjoy Indian food quite a bit. Instead of a salad I had a smoked calamari dish which was very tasty and very flavorful, but a bit odd. I was very curious as to what this prepartion would be like - have you ever heard of smoked squid? It was good, but I wouldn't get it again. The portion size however was perfect for one. My entree was the New York strip. I'm not typically a NY Strip kind of guy, but I was in the mood for beef and it was cooked precisely how I ordered (a big plus) and the vegetable of the day was broccoli. The broccoli was perfect and the steak seasoned just right. I left an empty plate, but didn't order an appetizer. I'm happy with that.

Took a group of esteemed musicians (including the guest conductor and soloist) for drinks and food after a GR Symphony concert. They wouldn't seat us in the dining room so we had to bus our own tables in the lounge to sit down. Drinks were slow, food was slower, trying to pay was the slowest and then they put a 20% gratuity on top just to seal the deal. Our waitress tripped over the soloist's violin (in it's case). We didn't tell her it was a Stradivarius from 1683.

Liked the contemporary setting and style of the restaurant - gives you a "big city" feel. The service was attentive and fast. We were seated close to a group being real noisy which made it impossible for us to have any conversation without yelling at each other. Upon our request, we were moved to another table. All tables are real close to each other and I would not consider it being a quiet romantic place. The ordered sushi sampler was plenty but not great - as frequent sushi lover's we struggled with the fact that the consistency of the rice balls would not hold but just fall apart when being dipped into the soya ginger combo. It was fresh but not rich in flavor. We both ordered the loin of lamb which we felt being a disappointment. It was an interesting combo of thin sliced lamb loin on top of a "stew" of polenta and beans, beans, beans. We were right by the riverfront windows on a beautiful sunny weekday evening. I had the NY Strip, it was fantastic and prepared exactly how I wanted it. Could have used more of the sides but I was pleasantly full after the meal. Service was quick, attentive, and very friendly. My only real complaint is that it is fairly noisy for an upscale place. The bar was behind us; the blender and martini ice shaking was loud enough to drown out conversation. The full table behind me was so close that the servers had to squeeze between us, and they pump the bass heavy music throughout the entire hotel nonstop. It's too loud in the lobbies and restrooms, and could stand to be a notch quieter in the dining room. I was completely unable to hear any of the conversation from the other end of our (large) table. The food is pretty pricey, but I was lucky enough to have someone else buying this time. Not a place I would go to all that often due to the $$, but it's nice for a special occasion, although it's not a very cozy place if you're looking for a romantic dinner.

A decent place, but I would advise going with its strengths and avoiding its weaknesses. The dining and bar areas are upscale and modern-appearing. The service varies - sometimes very good, sometimes not so much. Lately, I've found it to be decent but nothing spectacular. IMO, a restaurant's service should always be great, but can only get away with any hint of rudeness or snobbery if the food is spectacular and exclusive. This is not, so the service here should strive to be friendly and prompt 100% of the time. The dinner menu is somewhat sparse and a bit overpriced. I found the seared duck breast to be fair at best. I've had the steak (filet) twice - cooked correctly on only one of those occasions. I've felt the truffle fries to not have much "truffle" about them. The lunch menu actually has, what I feel to be, better value items. The sandwiches are good and I did enjoy the pork belly tacos and sushi rolls. The breakfast is the best. They have a really nice breakfast buffet with everything from fresh waffles and made-to-order omelettes to smoked salmon and fresh fruit. Another nice part of the breakfast buffet is that it bypasses the service for the most part. I give the breakfast here 4.5 stars, the lunch 3.75 stars and the dinner 2.5 stars for an average rating of about 3.5 stars. I would love to see this place come up to the quality of somewhere like the W in San Francisco or even The Bazaar at the SLS in LA.

Had a business lunch here and it was a nice treat. I had an ahi tuna salad which was great, could've used some more tuna but the flavors in the salad were awesome. Service was really good, there was 6 of us and the waitress did an awesome job! Really nice atmosphere as you'd expect of a restaurant in a JW. Prices were on the high side but again considering the location there not above what you'd expect. Treat yourself and someone else to a really nice dining experience.

I had been to Six One Six before, a couple of years ago on my birthday. There were about 8 of us and we had drinks and dessert and everything was fine, but I hadn't been back since. We stayed at the JW Marriott and the package we purchased included breakfast. The night before, we ordered room service. We got the chocolate flour-less cake. I think I had this before. It was dense and rich - definitely fulfills a chocolate craving. I enjoyed the cherry preserves with it, but the whipped cream was not the same whipped cream we enjoyed the next morning at breakfast. I would say the dessert was good, but not $12 good, and probably not something I would order again. The actual room service, however, was excellent and the presentation was nice. The next morning we went to breakfast around 10:30 (Saturday). We were greeted promptly and there was no wait for a table. The server was a friendly young man who asked us if we were guests at the hotel, made small talk conversation, asked us if we'd like drinks and took our order. My husband and I both decided to get the breakfast buffet, which is usually $18 per person. I ordered decaf coffee and my husband ordered regular coffee. We each got our own personal little carafe of coffee. I thought this was a great idea, so we could refill our own cups and not have to wait for the server to come by. The coffee was no Douwe Egberts, but it was fine. The table had a variety of sweetener options, including Truvia. The breakfast buffet: My husband loved it. I thought it was pretty good, especially for a hotel breakfast buffet. I would actually say this was far better quality and provided me with more options than the buffet I had at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. My husband had a Belgian waffle and there were different topping options, including some of the best whipped cream I've ever had! There was a wide variety of baked goods including muffins, scones, croissants, bagels, breads, etc. There were packets of cream cheese, butter, peanutbutter, etc. Jam, preserves and apple butter were on our table. There were two types of sausage and a warmer with bacon. My husband and I had the chicken sausage and both enjoyed it very much. I was happy to see there were options other than pork, as I am allergic. There were American redskin potatoes (cut up, cubed w/ peels on) and those were good. They weren't really seasoned, but I just added pepper and some ketchup and hot sauce. There were also mini quiches. I didn't try them. You can order eggs any style, including omelets, and there was a list of several ingredient options. I had an omelet with spinach and mushrooms, no cheese. It was actually very good! There were trays with meat and cheeses, but this must be a popular item, because it was running low. I also saw a cast iron warming pot with oatmeal, and again, many mix-in items. There was also a table with a variety of single serve packages of cereals, I also saw granola, milk, Silk vanilla or chocolate single servings, and a lot of really great fresh fruit: green melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The fruit was fresh and delicious! I took some of the whipped cream from the waffle area for the fruit and yum. There were also individual packs of yogurt. I am not sure if I remembered all of the many options, but if I found more than enough to eat (being picky and having allergies), then I'm sure anyone would be happy with this breakfast bar. The server was attentive, and I really appreciate this considering I have experienced many servers who slack off when the table orders the buffet. He made sure our food was good, we had what we needed, our water glasses were full, and he cleared away our dishes, and never rushed us. It was an excellent end to our stay at the JW. I would definitely recommend the breakfast buffet at Six One Six.

Liked the contemporary setting and style of the restaurant - gives you a "big city" feel. The service was attentive and fast. We were seated close to a group being real noisy which made it impossible for us to have any conversation without yelling at each other. Upon our request, we were moved to another table. All tables are real close to each other and I would not consider it being a quiet romantic place. The ordered sushi sampler was plenty but not great - as frequent sushi lover's we struggled with the fact that the consistency of the rice balls would not hold but just fall apart when being dipped into the soya ginger combo. It was fresh but not rich in flavor. We both ordered the loin of lamb which we felt being a disappointment. It was an interesting combo of thin sliced lamb loin on top of a "stew" of polenta and beans, beans, beans. We were right by the riverfront windows on a beautiful sunny weekday evening. I had the NY Strip, it was fantastic and prepared exactly how I wanted it. Could have used more of the sides but I was pleasantly full after the meal. Service was quick, attentive, and very friendly. My only real complaint is that it is fairly noisy for an upscale place. The bar was behind us; the blender and martini ice shaking was loud enough to drown out conversation. The full table behind me was so close that the servers had to squeeze between us, and they pump the bass heavy music throughout the entire hotel nonstop. It's too loud in the lobbies and restrooms, and could stand to be a notch quieter in the dining room. I was completely unable to hear any of the conversation from the other end of our (large) table. The food is pretty pricey, but I was lucky enough to have someone else buying this time. Not a place I would go to all that often due to the $$, but it's nice for a special occasion, although it's not a very cozy place if you're looking for a romantic dinner.

It was a great way to end the night.Also on many occasions we sit just outside the restaurant in the lounge area and order flat breads and plates of sushi and cocktails...it makes for a great casual night !!

Amazing food and beautiful ambiance! I was pleasantly surprised and will make it a point to go the next time I'm in Grand Rapids. One thing to keep in mind if you're bringing children; the kids food is a bit more sophisticated than most places offer. For example, the burger has a purposefully charred outer layer and the pizza has a strong Parmesan taste. I, of course, thought both were very good...my child did not. To summarize, definitely go, it's incredible! ...Just don't bring highly picky children.

It was just this past Wednesday the 24th of June, me my boyfriend and a friend of ours decided to go try out six one six breakfast because we had heard great things about it. My boyfriend really just wanted to celebrate his birthday by going to a nice place and getting some mimosas and maybe sit on the patio. I called several times to the restaurant to see if the patio was open but no response so we weren't even sure if you guys were open. We had just got out of working out at GRCC and we quick stopped home to shower before we came. My boyfriend and I showed up in active athletic wear and our friend in a v neck and jeans. We didn't know that was going to make such a difference in our experience. We walk in, the patio wasn't open but patio wasn't open. At the host stand we stood there for about 2 minutes before anyone said anything to us. Finally the host got back and asked us for how many, we said 3 and she walked away again for another couple mins. About 5 mins goes by of just standing there she says "hold on I have to get a table cleaned off in the back room." Once again she took at least another 5 mins before coming back. We noticed there were several tables in the restaurant that were clean. Wasn't exactly sure if she had to seat a specific server once more or she couldn't figure out where she could seat us. As we stood by the host stand looking clueless and feeling helpless per se, NO ONE said a word to us. No one had asked if we had been helped or wanted to help us. Now, my boyfriend and I have been in the service industry for many years and currently work in a restaurant for quite some time together and we have NEVER had to wait over 10 mins to get sat, yet feel completely ignored. We always try to get our guests sat immediately and promptly. We felt that if she had to go clean off one specific table for us, had she not had any clean tables ready for the next guests behind us? So basically we just thought it was quite absurd that we waited over 10 minutes to be sat. And that was just the beginning of our experience. As we got sat I saw again a few tables that were clean that could've been sat so once again I didn't quite understand why it took so long. We finally sat down and I noticed a server from a distance kind of give "sigh" or a distraught look. I thought oh maybe we are her table, because if we are she clearly does not want us. I kid you not, we literally sat for another 10 minutes before being greeted by anyone. Most importantly our server, but multiple servers walked past us without saying a word. And from my experience as a server even if a table is not in your section and you may notice they haven't been greeted, you still stop by "oh hey have you guys been helped?" Or something? Servers cleaning & resetting tables and nothing has been said to us. I said to my bf that I am so sorry that your birthday is starting like this, but if we don't get greeted in like two minutes I will ask to speak to a manager which is something we didn't wanna do. We just wanted to get some service is all. At this point I'm quite furious, my boyfriend is quite calm but I'm just holding my head down to not show any facial expressions. She didn't seem enthused at all when greeting us because all she said was "hi, sorry guys I was caught up. My name is April. What do you guys wanna drink?" We already had water so my boyfriend asks for a cocktail menu. She says there's no morning bartender. Ok well we just wanted to do mimosas what do you suggest we asked and if she mumm Napa and she said we have this and this (whatever they were called) and we asked her which one she suggested or which would be better, didn't even ask about price. She just said, "I'll just go get you a glass list." Also she didn't give us any spiel or ask us if it was our first time. We have never been there so we don't know how the buffet works and what's included. So i decided to just go out on a whim and go to the buffet. My boyfriend stayed at the table to order a bottle of champagne, And that also took her 10 mins no lie to get it because she had to wait to ring it in to check all of our ideas which I get but she was just really talking her sweet time about everything from sauces I asked her for. After she brought us the champagne we didn't even see her again. No refills on the champagne and I don't know if that's strange but when my tables order champagne or wine we take the initiative to refill their glasses. By habit I was stacking plates and clearing stuff to the side to help her, she came by once and by the look on her face I could instantly tell she finally knew we were servers. We wanted our check and had to ask another server to grab ours to get it. April said "sorry I don't wanna rush you guys." She came back and said so we don't have anything left to give for a birthday so I took 20% off of your bill. I knew she did it BC she knew her service was not good. We left her 20 on 86 which we felt was more than generous.

We've eaten here probably 20-30 times, and each time it's been very good. Drinks are creative and well done, the bar's a great place to sit and have a conversation. Truffle fries are phenomenal, as are almost all the soups, flatbreads shockingly good. The service can be iffy at times, and we have a running joke about how inappropriately dressed the hostess was the last time we dined (ALL the good china doesn't have to be on display at once, honey!). And while live music is great, when they have bands performing in the bar area it can be deafening. The food is really, really good though and worth the price (which seems rather reasonable to me). We've been here for date nights, business lunches, family dinners, etc. all have been good.

Love the name of this restaurant and how they incorporate "Michigan" in their menu. Although I didn't have it, the blueberry froyo made from Michigan blueberries sounded delicious. I had a very nice server who came around just enough to check how things were. She recommended the Tempura Tuna with house made fire sauce (not too spicy- so that's good) and the Mussels. It also came with naan but was way to full to eat it with the meal. I also had the Grand Marnier Tres Leches with a cherry compote and lemon meringue. I only wish the meringue did not stick to my teeth like hard taffy. Should you try it? Absolutely

This is a good restaurant in a very convenient location. The JW is a high scale hotel and i think Six one Six is a suitable restaurant to fit into its lobby. The service i had was great, they were prompt, fast and polite. The food was very good, though i only had an appetizer and a salad. It was slightly overpriced but again your at a JW Marriott hotel, that is to be expected. I was pleasantly surprised how good the sushi was! it was delicious. The atmosphere and aesthetics cant be beat! with a view in the back that is amazing! Overall good spot.

Sorry, this place is over-priced, the service is terrible and the food is predictable and ill-combined. Am I being a spoiled Chicagoan? Maybe, but I still advise you to go somewhere else. I think there is a better use for your time and money. We stayed one night at the hotel while on a trip to Michigan and decided to be lazy and stay for dinner. Not such a good idea after all: food was below average and our server was simply rude. He barely greeted us and later on interrupted my dinner to ask for an ID. I was half way through my starter (the charcuterie plate, the only good thing) so I said I was sorry but I left my driver's licence in my room upstairs; perhaphs I could pick it up later at the end of the dinner? Apparently not. He insisted so I went to fetch it but I received no apologies for the inconvenience. I thought that was rude but anyway. The food: the fries are oily and with more garlic than truffle. Not worth the hype. Our mains (both priced more than 30$) were simply not so good: the rabbit was tough and so full of mustard we could not finish it. My ravioli were undercooked, I could clearly see the dough being still white and firm as I bit into them. We shared a dessert, the bread pudding, which was flavorless. Limited choice of wine and spirits: I got a glass of rosé and it was unusually sour. For this, we paid more than 80$ per person. To sum up, not a good experience.

Just a quick review to say that we enjoyed terrific service at one of their nifty outdoor cabanas on the river & I had literally the BEST CLUB SANDWICH I have ever had in my entire life on this planet. And I always order the club, so this is from the perspective of years & years of club sandwiches. We had a medium size group for dinner on New Years Eve. In my eyes the food was horrible and the service was just as bad. I had a NY Strip and one of my friends had the fillet and another had Ahi Tuna. Both steaks were cooked to well done when we ordered them medium rare. The tuna was extremely dry as well. For a establishment that charges $40+ for a steak with only one side I was expecting a lot better. I give them two stars due to the view and their appetizers, not their main course meals.

I loved the setup in Six One Six - really great ambiance and decor. I came here for dinner (table of 1) and sat at the large table that surrounded the kitchen. I thought they had a great wine list and enjoyed a california cabernet with my dinner. I tried two things: 1. The octopus appetizer - I thought it was well seasoned and had great presentation, but it was chewy. They need to massage the octopus more and cook it on a lower heat setting 2. Monkfish - the cornbread side they had for it was a miss. I love corn and cornbread, but this cornbread pudding was oddly sweet, the fish not savory enough, and something was just missing. I wasn't the biggest fan of the food, but I thought the service was amazing and the decor/ambiance really nice.

And the management will argue with you if you call them on it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Protip: if your fries actually have truffle oil, they won't need heaps of garlic (or any, for that matter.) We had an amazing breakfast experience here on a busy Sunday morning. I am not usually a buffet person, but wow this buffet is not only completely worth the $19 price with the selection of food, everything was fresh and delicious. You can't a buffet when they will cook eggs to order, any way that you would like. The bacon is wonderful-thick and cooked through without being burnt and too crispy. The buffet includes juice and coffee, so the price is even better when you consider how much these items usually cost in a hotel. We left so full and satisfied. They are also a great place to go with kids-clever activity book and lots of kid meal choices for all meal periods.

I I have never been to a restaurant where they charge for the water. At the beginning of the meal they asked if we preferred sparkling or still, and we asked if we could get both. I just wish there would have been some mention of the $18 charge which was coming, as it was 3x the cost of my alcoholic drink. Overall a good experience . The menu was tasty the service was a tad slow on this day. i have to say the prices are pretty steep for certain things i had the brussel sprout salad which was very tasty..but it was 11 bucks and I got about 2 ounces worth of salad. Literally, i would say it was 3 forks worth of salad for 11 dollars. Seems a touch out of bounds. Its a wonderful menu overall, but this was probably one of the most expensive meals I have had anywhere in the US. So while the food is tasty, I do think its borderline 20% too high on price, or 30% too low in serving portions...just saying. when you add a drink, salad/app, entree and dessert, you are at 70 bucks a head plus tip.

six one six is a good restaurant. the mediocre adjective "good" being used very purposefully here. the environment is somewhat stuffy and it takes a drink ir two to make you comfortable. the jazz band that plays is a nice touch and the whole place eminates class, but it falls short in true substance. the food is good but not exceptional. the smoked beet salad is a great combination of flavors and the roasted cauliflower dish has an exceptional butternut squash ratatouille but otherwise, the menu is somewhat dull. they have a wide selection of wines but nothing remarkable. the server i had was nice but clearly not experienced. his knowledge of the menu seemed merely read out of a book rather than a true knowing of the food. six one six is in my best description hollow. it has a shell of extreme class but it's the restaurant a boring, uncultured, early 30's couple goes to for a "fancy" date night. menu items are overpriced and meant to impress a very average crowd. anyone with a deep knowledge of food or wine would be unimpressed.

We had breakfast in here one morning. Everything is priced accordingly - meaning it's your typical expensive hotel breakfast. I opted for the buffet was I was in a bit of a hurry to eat and head off to my meeting. They had no eggs on the buffet - instead you place your order with the Chef behind the counter and he makes it fresh on the spot for you. I went with the breakfast potatoes and bacon - solid, stick to your ribs food. Service was good, I thought the coffee was a little on the weak side. The main dishes were excellent. The salmon and duck were perfectly cooked. A cheese plate appetizer had a great selection of cheeses and excellent plum jam, but came only with oil-soaked, crispy bread. Our waiter needed to be prompted to bring soft bread, and by then, the main dishes had come. (5/5 for quality of food). Service was very poor for this category of restaurant. We had reserved a table a week ahead through open table, but had to eat at a table in the lounge/Marriott lobby "due to a graduation party." Staff did not respond to requests for a more comfortable seating arrangement, and there were drunk business people around where we were seated, making for a poor (special celebration) experience despite the high quality of the food.

Wish I can give 3.5 stars because in the world of hotel lobby restaurants, I think this is one of the best I've been to. But yelp is not best of the worst, it's supposed to be an absolute measure. I ordered the burger and a glass of Malbec. I sat next to the GM of the hotel (also into photography, and a pretty cool guy). By the time I got my burger, which was actually quite good, I'm convinced the waiter had visited the GM's table 3-4x and I hadn't gotten any attention (water refills, requests for more wine, etc). Look I understand, take care of your own, but I'm sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. After you're done coddling his meatballs, come ask how I'm doing! Give me an update on my burger that I ordered 15 minutes ago! They also had live music, which in my opinion is a huge plus. Definitely worth a visit if they have band, or if you're staying in the hotel, but otherwise I'd probably recommend a brewery or one of the restaurants in town over 616. Which is the area code.

I've only had the breakfast buffet here but it's very good. The bacon is delicious and the made to order omelettes and eggs are well executed by the staff. I believe they'll also make waffles to order as well. The potatoes are good and they have some more exotic fare like smoked salmon. Service is professional and efficient. If I recall the buffet is a bit pricy - $18 I think - but as long as you're planning on having more than a muffin you'll probably agree it's worth it.

First let me preface this review with the fact that I've traveled the country to fine dining restaurants, New York, Miami, Houston, L.A., and thoroughly love a high end meal experience, and while this is only Grand Rapids 616's prices were in the 5 star category even in major metropolitan cities. We ordered a couple drinks, very well prepared, sitting on the riverfront terrace the scene and weather was great. We started with truffle fries as we have heard good things about them, they were tasty. My date ordered the filet medium, which came out very nicely, and presented nice. This is where the "okay" experience ends. I ordered the charred New York strip cooked medium which she described as warm pink center, one of there specialties and potatoes. It came charred, with a raw grayish pink center, it was a very poor steak, no flavor other than the hint of burnt taste. The potatoes had ZERO seasoning, I mean nothing. And the asparagus matched the flavor of the steak, burnt. Our waitress did not check on us once while I ate this piece of cheap steak. When she returned and we were already both done eating, she didn't ask how the meal was so I made a point to tell her I wasn't impressed with the steak. In which she argued "well when I dropped it off at your table you said it was fine". To which I responded it "looked" fine until I started to eat it. She didn't seem to care to much that my $40 steak was sub-par but graciously came back and said she discounted my $120 ticket to $112 for the inconvenience. I didn't ask for any monetary refund, maybe just some service, and willingness to make an expensive average meal a decent experience. When she returned to pick up the signed copy she offered a free dessert to make up for it, we declined. Would I return? Maybe, but never to order that meal again, possibly for the outdoor seating and a drink. Is it a high end restaurant, maybe for the area, but not in the culinary world, they lacked the food to match the atmosphere. I would also expect the service to be more helpful, polite, and responsive in a fine dining experience. The steak offerings were way overpriced, the $40 NY strip was bland and lacked a real beef taste compared to a $32 ribeye at Houston's. Plan to spend $100+ for a party of 2.

Admittedly I didn't get to see the full menu, nor was I spoiled for choice by the menu I was given. We were in Grand Rapids for a biz conference so we had a fixed menu of 4-6 items. This review exists solely to talk about eating the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life. Yes, in my whole life. And I love some fish tacos. The fish is fried as per usual, but the flakiness and crispness of the fry is delicate yet crunchy and satisfying... Pretty much perfect. The waitress asks about a homemade hot sauce with it and I can hardly contain myself from yelling Hell Yes. The sauce is awesome, like a salsa verde with a little more heat, again perfectly complimenting the crispy fish and the srirachi-esque mayo. I can tell this place would be perfect for any time of day, highly highly recommend.

After a 2 1/2 hr drive to Grand Rapids I was starving. It may not seem long to you, but I get hungry every hour! I checked into my room at the nicest Marriott I've come across and ran down to this restaurant located within the hotel. Eating by myself isn't ever fun, but at least the food was delish! After devouring a warm, soft homemade bread basket (mmm- love the carbs) I ordered a very fresh tasting salad with miso dressing. And I followed this up with some sort of tomato flat bread that was perfectly crispy. The waitresses and hostesses are are super nice, but being nice seems to be a prerequisite to living in Grand Rapids. The service was a tad bit on the slow side, but I was also eating extra fast since I was here by my lonesome. I had a few yummy meals when in Grand Rapids...and this was one of my favorites!

Went back to six.one.six because last year it was amazing. It was delicious, but not as remembered. Had the truffle fries again. They seemed a bit too crispy and brown, almost like burnt potato chips. Maybe they were just overcooked? Last year I went for lunch, this time for dinner. I enjoyed the j dub martini. Anything with Chambord is going to be good! For the main course, my friend had 2 of the sushi tools, which looked fresh and fabulous. She let me try one of them, yumtastic. I had Otto's Chicken, and man, do I wish chicken always tasted this good! Though some may view getting chicken at a "fancy" restaurant as a cop out, this is no ordinary chicken dish. New experience eating cranberry beans...they are alright. The arugula and andouille sausage with the chicken were great. For dessert, we revisited the dessert of my dreams, the chèvre cheesecake. This time it was paired with a spicy pear compote..mmm. GO TO six.one.six! It is the trifecta of stellar food, service, and ambiance.

Stayed at the JW for the weekend with my boyfriend, and decided to have breakfast before we checked out. It was fairly busy, but we were seated shortly. We ordered off of the menu, as opposed to the buffet, and it took about 30 minutes to receive our food. The omelette I ordered was probably the biggest I've ever seen, and was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the blueberry pancakes, and they were really good as well. The food was delicious, and the service was great, but it just took a bit to get to the table.

Vegans beware! We were in a large party on Christmas Day, and the person making our reservation noted that we had three vegans in the group. The server acknowledged this when we were seated, and said "the chef will be happy to make whatever you want," before going back to check in with the kitchen. A full 15 minutes later, it turns out the chef actually meant, "here are the side dishes on the printed menu that are vegan, and you can have any of these." So our daughter got pasta that came out the first time with cheese on it, and we got two decent salads for $11 each, dry lentils in tomato sauce and indelicately spiced couscous for what must have been a small fortune -- we didn't see the bill. The restaurant didn't seem very busy, but the service was very slow. Table was set with bread plates and butter knives, but no bread was offered. Surprisingly, dessert came out very fast and was pretty reasonably priced. Giving the restaurant two stars only because the waitstaff was exceptionally friendly. If you are into big hunks of meat, give it a shot. But the rest of the dining scene in Grand Rapids seems to be stepping up its vegan game, and this place needs to catch up.

Instead I ordered the pan seared steel head as my main course. Perfectly cooked. And those pickled ramp bulbs? To die for. I could have eaten an entire plate of just those. The service was hotel-nice. Completely efficient, but not very warm (and this is coming from a Bostonian!). For dessert we had the chevre cheesecake. Because, seriously, goat cheese cheesecake. I was in heaven. I can't think of a better dessert I've had in recent times. Keeping in mind I'm a goat cheese fiend. I wish the indoor atmosphere wasn't so hotel-y, but, it is in a hotel. And for a hotel restaurant? Fabulous.

The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, with a view of the river, though it was a little too cold to venture out for long despite the torches. On to the food. The mixed salad was good, though the flavors didn't seem to come together for me. Braised pork shoulder for the BF, and grilled Michigan Lake Trout. I'd had less-than-savory experiences with trout in various restaurants before, as it's about the fishiest fish I've had, so was reluctant on the choice of entree, but it turns out I needn't have worried. Fish was delectable, perfect. The trio of gelatos was delicious, with the mint standing out from the rest. All in all an evening well-spent.

Six One Six is a great spot to pick up a meal, brunch or after the show snack in the downtown area. It can be pricey for a dinner but lunch and breakfast rates are quite reasonable. I appreciate the local sourcing for many items used in meal prepartion. In fact, during the summer an organic garden just outside the restaurant which is along the river provides fresh produce and herbs for the kitchen. The kitchen is an 'open format' style affair. This sometimes allows for interesting conversation with the chef , who by the way, prepares some of the best omlettes available in GR for Sunday brunch. While the brunch menu is not as extensive as one would find in say a place like Charlie's Crab or the Spinnaker, it can be a nice spot to spend a relaxed Sunday morning or afternoon. If you're heading out after a downtown show or later in the evening, you might enjoy getting drinks and snacks at Mixology, the adjacent bar area which often features live music. We usually opt for a quieter setting in the restaurant and have always found the service and food to be above par. Favorites on the menu: flat bread appetizers, Trout Menuiere and their ever changing repetoire of intresting and flavorful soups!

This place has single handedly restored my opinion that hotel restaurants can actually be good. While staying at the JW recently we gave in and surrendered to our phobia of hotel restaurants...and glad we did. Veal chop, best we ever had. Duck confit salad and frisee with poached egg salad...awesome. In attempt to order the most unassuming and hopefully disappointing dish ('cause I really wanted something bad to happen all while supporting my mentioned phobia) I ordered the vegetarian dish. I'm not vegetarian. The pumpkin agnolotti was one of the best plates I had on our two week food vacation. Service and atmosphere matched the food. Perfect.

During my stay in Grand Rapids, I ate dinner and breakfast here. Like the hotel its situated in, the restaurant is gorgeous - modern and bright. It could fit in to any large city, and it is priced accordingly. Truthfully, I was rather surprised about how expensive it was - entrees are pretty much all north of $30 with most appetizers in the teens. For a three course meal with a drink, expect to spend north of $75-80/person. The food: As far as dinner, I went with the Chef's soup, which was a roasted red pepper - it wasn't quite a bisque and it wasn't quite a puree. I can't really describe it other than it tasted like red pepper and cayenne. It was a bit monotone in taste and my least favorite of anything I tasted. However, there was a great bread basket, with garlic butter - made up for the pedestrian soup. The salmon entree was amazing - perfectly crispy skin gave it a richness and nutty depth of flavor you ordinarily don't find in salmon. So delicious that I contemplated ordering a second. The malted chocolate torte, with malted milk mousse was phenomenal - not too sweet and was clearly made from high quality ingredients. For breakfast, the buffet is the best value. $17 gets you made to order omelettes, plus other good stuff like smoked salmon, italian meats, cheeses, pastries, and then your regular run of the mill stuff like bacon/sausage/potatoes etc. The omelette was made perfectly to my liking - not oily, well done but yet fluffy on the inside. The service: I would say as good as the food was, the service was below average. Some of the lowlights were: At dinner, the server (who was probably a local high school student) brought out my soup to my colleague and described it as the beet salad she ordered. The following morning, I was at the restaurant for at least a half hour and nothing (and I literally mean nothing) was replenished on the breakfast bar. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars. Lots of highs and lows. The food was generally pretty good - the crispy skin on the salmon was reason enough to round up. Six one Six needs to reassess the weakness of its service though - too many flaws for a restaurant that is charging that much money.

Amazing food and beautiful ambiance! I was pleasantly surprised and will make it a point to go the next time I'm in Grand Rapids. One thing to keep in mind if you're bringing children; the kids food is a bit more sophisticated than most places offer. For example, the burger has a purposefully charred outer layer and the pizza has a strong Parmesan taste. I, of course, thought both were very good...my child did not. To summarize, definitely go, it's incredible! ...Just don't bring highly picky children.

It was just this past Wednesday the 24th of June, me my boyfriend and a friend of ours decided to go try out six one six breakfast because we had heard great things about it. My boyfriend really just wanted to celebrate his birthday by going to a nice place and getting some mimosas and maybe sit on the patio. I called several times to the restaurant to see if the patio was open but no response so we weren't even sure if you guys were open. We had just got out of working out at GRCC and we quick stopped home to shower before we came. My boyfriend and I showed up in active athletic wear and our friend in a v neck and jeans. We didn't know that was going to make such a difference in our experience. We walk in, the patio wasn't open but patio wasn't open. At the host stand we stood there for about 2 minutes before anyone said anything to us. Finally the host got back and asked us for how many, we said 3 and she walked away again for another couple mins. About 5 mins goes by of just standing there she says "hold on I have to get a table cleaned off in the back room." Once again she took at least another 5 mins before coming back. We noticed there were several tables in the restaurant that were clean. Wasn't exactly sure if she had to seat a specific server once more or she couldn't figure out where she could seat us. As we stood by the host stand looking clueless and feeling helpless per se, NO ONE said a word to us. No one had asked if we had been helped or wanted to help us. Now, my boyfriend and I have been in the service industry for many years and currently work in a restaurant for quite some time together and we have NEVER had to wait over 10 mins to get sat, yet feel completely ignored. We always try to get our guests sat immediately and promptly. We felt that if she had to go clean off one specific table for us, had she not had any clean tables ready for the next guests behind us? So basically we just thought it was quite absurd that we waited over 10 minutes to be sat. And that was just the beginning of our experience. As we got sat I saw again a few tables that were clean that could've been sat so once again I didn't quite understand why it took so long. We finally sat down and I noticed a server from a distance kind of give "sigh" or a distraught look. I thought oh maybe we are her table, because if we are she clearly does not want us. I kid you not, we literally sat for another 10 minutes before being greeted by anyone. Most importantly our server, but multiple servers walked past us without saying a word. And from my experience as a server even if a table is not in your section and you may notice they haven't been greeted, you still stop by "oh hey have you guys been helped?" Or something? Servers cleaning & resetting tables and nothing has been said to us. I said to my bf that I am so sorry that your birthday is starting like this, but if we don't get greeted in like two minutes I will ask to speak to a manager which is something we didn't wanna do. We just wanted to get some service is all. At this point I'm quite furious, my boyfriend is quite calm but I'm just holding my head down to not show any facial expressions. She didn't seem enthused at all when greeting us because all she said was "hi, sorry guys I was caught up. My name is April. What do you guys wanna drink?" We already had water so my boyfriend asks for a cocktail menu. She says there's no morning bartender. Ok well we just wanted to do mimosas what do you suggest we asked and if she mumm Napa and she said we have this and this (whatever they were called) and we asked her which one she suggested or which would be better, didn't even ask about price. She just said, "I'll just go get you a glass list." Also she didn't give us any spiel or ask us if it was our first time. We have never been there so we don't know how the buffet works and what's included. So i decided to just go out on a whim and go to the buffet. My boyfriend stayed at the table to order a bottle of champagne, And that also took her 10 mins no lie to get it because she had to wait to ring it in to check all of our ideas which I get but she was just really talking her sweet time about everything from sauces I asked her for. After she brought us the champagne we didn't even see her again. No refills on the champagne and I don't know if that's strange but when my tables order champagne or wine we take the initiative to refill their glasses. By habit I was stacking plates and clearing stuff to the side to help her, she came by once and by the look on her face I could instantly tell she finally knew we were servers. We wanted our check and had to ask another server to grab ours to get it. April said "sorry I don't wanna rush you guys." She came back and said so we don't have anything left to give for a birthday so I took 20% off of your bill. I knew she did it BC she knew her service was not good. We left her 20 on 86 which we felt was more than generous.

A decent place, but I would advise going with its strengths and avoiding its weaknesses. The dining and bar areas are upscale and modern-appearing. The service varies - sometimes very good, sometimes not so much. Lately, I've found it to be decent but nothing spectacular. IMO, a restaurant's service should always be great, but can only get away with any hint of rudeness or snobbery if the food is spectacular and exclusive. This is not, so the service here should strive to be friendly and prompt 100% of the time. The dinner menu is somewhat sparse and a bit overpriced. I found the seared duck breast to be fair at best. I've had the steak (filet) twice - cooked correctly on only one of those occasions. I've felt the truffle fries to not have much "truffle" about them. The lunch menu actually has, what I feel to be, better value items. The sandwiches are good and I did enjoy the pork belly tacos and sushi rolls. The breakfast is the best. They have a really nice breakfast buffet with everything from fresh waffles and made-to-order omelettes to smoked salmon and fresh fruit. Another nice part of the breakfast buffet is that it bypasses the service for the most part. I give the breakfast here 4.5 stars, the lunch 3.75 stars and the dinner 2.5 stars for an average rating of about 3.5 stars. I would love to see this place come up to the quality of somewhere like the W in San Francisco or even The Bazaar at the SLS in LA.

Had a business lunch here and it was a nice treat. I had an ahi tuna salad which was great, could've used some more tuna but the flavors in the salad were awesome. Service was really good, there was 6 of us and the waitress did an awesome job! Really nice atmosphere as you'd expect of a restaurant in a JW. Prices were on the high side but again considering the location there not above what you'd expect. Treat yourself and someone else to a really nice dining experience.

We've eaten here probably 20-30 times, and each time it's been very good. Drinks are creative and well done, the bar's a great place to sit and have a conversation. Truffle fries are phenomenal, as are almost all the soups, flatbreads shockingly good. The service can be iffy at times, and we have a running joke about how inappropriately dressed the hostess was the last time we dined (ALL the good china doesn't have to be on display at once, honey!). And while live music is great, when they have bands performing in the bar area it can be deafening. The food is really, really good though and worth the price (which seems rather reasonable to me). We've been here for date nights, business lunches, family dinners, etc. all have been good.

Love the name of this restaurant and how they incorporate "Michigan" in their menu. Although I didn't have it, the blueberry froyo made from Michigan blueberries sounded delicious. I had a very nice server who came around just enough to check how things were. She recommended the Tempura Tuna with house made fire sauce (not too spicy- so that's good) and the Mussels. It also came with naan but was way to full to eat it with the meal. I also had the Grand Marnier Tres Leches with a cherry compote and lemon meringue. I only wish the meringue did not stick to my teeth like hard taffy. Should you try it? Absolutely

Sorry, this place is over-priced, the service is terrible and the food is predictable and ill-combined. Am I being a spoiled Chicagoan? Maybe, but I still advise you to go somewhere else. I think there is a better use for your time and money. We stayed one night at the hotel while on a trip to Michigan and decided to be lazy and stay for dinner. Not such a good idea after all: food was below average and our server was simply rude. He barely greeted us and later on interrupted my dinner to ask for an ID. I was half way through my starter (the charcuterie plate, the only good thing) so I said I was sorry but I left my driver's licence in my room upstairs; perhaphs I could pick it up later at the end of the dinner? Apparently not. He insisted so I went to fetch it but I received no apologies for the inconvenience. I thought that was rude but anyway. The food: the fries are oily and with more garlic than truffle. Not worth the hype. Our mains (both priced more than 30$) were simply not so good: the rabbit was tough and so full of mustard we could not finish it. My ravioli were undercooked, I could clearly see the dough being still white and firm as I bit into them. We shared a dessert, the bread pudding, which was flavorless. Limited choice of wine and spirits: I got a glass of rosé and it was unusually sour. For this, we paid more than 80$ per person. To sum up, not a good experience.

We had a medium size group for dinner on New Years Eve. In my eyes the food was horrible and the service was just as bad. I had a NY Strip and one of my friends had the fillet and another had Ahi Tuna. Both steaks were cooked to well done when we ordered them medium rare. The tuna was extremely dry as well. For a establishment that charges $40+ for a steak with only one side I was expecting a lot better. I give them two stars due to the view and their appetizers, not their main course meals.

I loved the setup in Six One Six - really great ambiance and decor. I came here for dinner (table of 1) and sat at the large table that surrounded the kitchen. I thought they had a great wine list and enjoyed a california cabernet with my dinner. I tried two things: 1. The octopus appetizer - I thought it was well seasoned and had great presentation, but it was chewy. They need to massage the octopus more and cook it on a lower heat setting 2. Monkfish - the cornbread side they had for it was a miss. I love corn and cornbread, but this cornbread pudding was oddly sweet, the fish not savory enough, and something was just missing. I wasn't the biggest fan of the food, but I thought the service was amazing and the decor/ambiance really nice.

This is a good restaurant in a very convenient location. The JW is a high scale hotel and i think Six one Six is a suitable restaurant to fit into its lobby. The service i had was great, they were prompt, fast and polite. The food was very good, though i only had an appetizer and a salad. It was slightly overpriced but again your at a JW Marriott hotel, that is to be expected. I was pleasantly surprised how good the sushi was! it was delicious. The atmosphere and aesthetics cant be beat! with a view in the back that is amazing! Overall good spot.

Overall a good experience . The menu was tasty the service was a tad slow on this day. i have to say the prices are pretty steep for certain things i had the brussel sprout salad which was very tasty..but it was 11 bucks and I got about 2 ounces worth of salad. Literally, i would say it was 3 forks worth of salad for 11 dollars. Seems a touch out of bounds. Its a wonderful menu overall, but this was probably one of the most expensive meals I have had anywhere in the US. So while the food is tasty, I do think its borderline 20% too high on price, or 30% too low in serving portions...just saying. when you add a drink, salad/app, entree and dessert, you are at 70 bucks a head plus tip.

six one six is a good restaurant. the mediocre adjective "good" being used very purposefully here. the environment is somewhat stuffy and it takes a drink ir two to make you comfortable. the jazz band that plays is a nice touch and the whole place eminates class, but it falls short in true substance. the food is good but not exceptional. the smoked beet salad is a great combination of flavors and the roasted cauliflower dish has an exceptional butternut squash ratatouille but otherwise, the menu is somewhat dull. they have a wide selection of wines but nothing remarkable. the server i had was nice but clearly not experienced. his knowledge of the menu seemed merely read out of a book rather than a true knowing of the food. six one six is in my best description hollow. it has a shell of extreme class but it's the restaurant a boring, uncultured, early 30's couple goes to for a "fancy" date night. menu items are overpriced and meant to impress a very average crowd. anyone with a deep knowledge of food or wine would be unimpressed.

We had breakfast in here one morning. Everything is priced accordingly - meaning it's your typical expensive hotel breakfast. I opted for the buffet was I was in a bit of a hurry to eat and head off to my meeting. They had no eggs on the buffet - instead you place your order with the Chef behind the counter and he makes it fresh on the spot for you. I went with the breakfast potatoes and bacon - solid, stick to your ribs food. Service was good, I thought the coffee was a little on the weak side. Six One Six is also directly connected to Mixology - the hotel bar.

We had an amazing breakfast experience here on a busy Sunday morning. I am not usually a buffet person, but wow this buffet is not only completely worth the $19 price with the selection of food, everything was fresh and delicious. You can't a buffet when they will cook eggs to order, any way that you would like. The bacon is wonderful-thick and cooked through without being burnt and too crispy. The buffet includes juice and coffee, so the price is even better when you consider how much these items usually cost in a hotel. We left so full and satisfied. They are also a great place to go with kids-clever activity book and lots of kid meal choices for all meal periods.

I I have never been to a restaurant where they charge for the water. At the beginning of the meal they asked if we preferred sparkling or still, and we asked if we could get both. I just wish there would have been some mention of the $18 charge which was coming, as it was 3x the cost of my alcoholic drink. I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is perfect for a nice business dinner/meeting. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She was knowledgeable about the menu and explained things clearly. As far as the food, it was well worth the price. At $32, I had a plate of Mahi Mahi with couscous. It was delicious. The flavor profile made sense. It wasn't over pretentious. The only thing I would have changed if I could is that I would have toasted the couscous a little before cooking it. I think when its toasted it just kind of lifts the flavor a bit. Otherwise a great dish. This is definitely worth the visit.

The main dishes were excellent. The salmon and duck were perfectly cooked. A cheese plate appetizer had a great selection of cheeses and excellent plum jam, but came only with oil-soaked, crispy bread. Our waiter needed to be prompted to bring soft bread, and by then, the main dishes had come. (5/5 for quality of food). Service was very poor for this category of restaurant. We had reserved a table a week ahead through open table, but had to eat at a table in the lounge/Marriott lobby "due to a graduation party." Staff did not respond to requests for a more comfortable seating arrangement, and there were drunk business people around where we were seated, making for a poor (special celebration) experience despite the high quality of the food.

Wish I can give 3.5 stars because in the world of hotel lobby restaurants, I think this is one of the best I've been to. But yelp is not best of the worst, it's supposed to be an absolute measure. I ordered the burger and a glass of Malbec. I sat next to the GM of the hotel (also into photography, and a pretty cool guy). By the time I got my burger, which was actually quite good, I'm convinced the waiter had visited the GM's table 3-4x and I hadn't gotten any attention (water refills, requests for more wine, etc). Look I understand, take care of your own, but I'm sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. After you're done coddling his meatballs, come ask how I'm doing! Give me an update on my burger that I ordered 15 minutes ago! They also had live music, which in my opinion is a huge plus. Definitely worth a visit if they have band, or if you're staying in the hotel, but otherwise I'd probably recommend a brewery or one of the restaurants in town over 616. Which is the area code.

Overall we had an OK experience, but I had a few major issues with this place. First, the good - The truffle fries are plentiful and delicious. They come out hot, aren't loaded in grease, and the dipping sauce is great. I also love that they utilize local sources. The live music is a wonderful touch, and 99% of the staff we interacted with from the time we walked up to the hotel to the time we left was pleasant, accommodating and cheery. Now, the OK - I had the artisnal cheese plate and was disappointed in the kind of bread they served with it (too stale, too toasted small rounds) and the kinds of cheese offered. While the waitress was eager to bring as much extra bread to eat it with as I wanted, the bread was so hard and crumbly (like you take a bite and it falls apart all over the place) that I told her no, and ate part of the cheese without any bread. The cheeses were yummy, but they weren't anything that would knock your socks off or that you couldn't find at your regular grocery store down the street. The spread was eclectic though - there was marcona almonds, a jam, and some other different items. I see now on their site they offer the artisnal cheese plate WITH the charceuterie, and I think that's a good move on their part. The Kale salad my boyfriend had was phenomenal - but way too small. Our waitress even said it was one of the "larger" salads and it was maybe 3/4 cup in the bottom of this gigantic bowl. Finally, the bad - Where do I start? I ordered a glass of red wine and received 3, maybe 3.5 ounces of it. To me, this is sparse. I was expecting a regular 5 ounce glass of red wine. Just the look of it in the glass was ridiculous. I ordered the Brussels sprouts salad to start. The name of it was "Brussels Sprouts Salad" and under the title/name, it listed some other ingredients like arugula, and I think panchetta plus a vinaigrette. There was ONE Brussels sprout in the salad. One. I'm serious. It was arugula plus the panchetta, plus the dressing and a Brussels sprout cut in half. Why in the world would you call something a Brussels Sprout Salad and then only put ONE Brussel sprout in it?! WHY!?!?! (I love Brussels sprouts, so this was extremely disappointing to me.) My boyfriend's flatbread was just all sorts of disappointing - the crust tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen aisle of the store, and the flavors were disappointing. Overall, this place has so much POTENTIAL, but is leaning on its name (JW Marriott) and the fact that they source local ingredients way too heavily to make up for the areas they are lacking in (creativity, portion size, pricing, etc.). When you add all this up and slap on their prices, you come out with a place I'd tell everyone to avoid.

I've only had the breakfast buffet here but it's very good. The bacon is delicious and the made to order omelettes and eggs are well executed by the staff. I believe they'll also make waffles to order as well. The potatoes are good and they have some more exotic fare like smoked salmon. Service is professional and efficient. If I recall the buffet is a bit pricy - $18 I think - but as long as you're planning on having more than a muffin you'll probably agree it's worth it.

Delicious cocktails, $10-12 each. Sat in one of the outdoor cabanas on the river for 7pm drinks before dinner and it was WONDERFUL. Awesome atmosphere. My only complaint is that the staff was all standing around when we walked in and no one smiled at us- it was quite rude! I hate going out to places where the employees obviously don't want to be working.

First let me preface this review with the fact that I've traveled the country to fine dining restaurants, New York, Miami, Houston, L.A., and thoroughly love a high end meal experience, and while this is only Grand Rapids 616's prices were in the 5 star category even in major metropolitan cities. We ordered a couple drinks, very well prepared, sitting on the riverfront terrace the scene and weather was great. We started with truffle fries as we have heard good things about them, they were tasty. My date ordered the filet medium, which came out very nicely, and presented nice. This is where the "okay" experience ends. I ordered the charred New York strip cooked medium which she described as warm pink center, one of there specialties and potatoes. It came charred, with a raw grayish pink center, it was a very poor steak, no flavor other than the hint of burnt taste. The potatoes had ZERO seasoning, I mean nothing. And the asparagus matched the flavor of the steak, burnt. Our waitress did not check on us once while I ate this piece of cheap steak. When she returned and we were already both done eating, she didn't ask how the meal was so I made a point to tell her I wasn't impressed with the steak. In which she argued "well when I dropped it off at your table you said it was fine". To which I responded it "looked" fine until I started to eat it. She didn't seem to care to much that my $40 steak was sub-par but graciously came back and said she discounted my $120 ticket to $112 for the inconvenience. I didn't ask for any monetary refund, maybe just some service, and willingness to make an expensive average meal a decent experience. When she returned to pick up the signed copy she offered a free dessert to make up for it, we declined. Would I return? Maybe, but never to order that meal again, possibly for the outdoor seating and a drink. Is it a high end restaurant, maybe for the area, but not in the culinary world, they lacked the food to match the atmosphere. I would also expect the service to be more helpful, polite, and responsive in a fine dining experience. The steak offerings were way overpriced, the $40 NY strip was bland and lacked a real beef taste compared to a $32 ribeye at Houston's. Plan to spend $100+ for a party of 2.

Admittedly I didn't get to see the full menu, nor was I spoiled for choice by the menu I was given. We were in Grand Rapids for a biz conference so we had a fixed menu of 4-6 items. This review exists solely to talk about eating the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life. Yes, in my whole life. And I love some fish tacos. The fish is fried as per usual, but the flakiness and crispness of the fry is delicate yet crunchy and satisfying... Pretty much perfect. The waitress asks about a homemade hot sauce with it and I can hardly contain myself from yelling Hell Yes. The sauce is awesome, like a salsa verde with a little more heat, again perfectly complimenting the crispy fish and the srirachi-esque mayo. I can tell this place would be perfect for any time of day, highly highly recommend.

After a 2 1/2 hr drive to Grand Rapids I was starving. It may not seem long to you, but I get hungry every hour! I checked into my room at the nicest Marriott I've come across and ran down to this restaurant located within the hotel. Eating by myself isn't ever fun, but at least the food was delish! After devouring a warm, soft homemade bread basket (mmm- love the carbs) I ordered a very fresh tasting salad with miso dressing. And I followed this up with some sort of tomato flat bread that was perfectly crispy. The waitresses and hostesses are are super nice, but being nice seems to be a prerequisite to living in Grand Rapids. The service was a tad bit on the slow side, but I was also eating extra fast since I was here by my lonesome. I had a few yummy meals when in Grand Rapids...and this was one of my favorites!

Went back to six.one.six because last year it was amazing. It was delicious, but not as remembered. Had the truffle fries again. They seemed a bit too crispy and brown, almost like burnt potato chips. Maybe they were just overcooked? Last year I went for lunch, this time for dinner. I enjoyed the j dub martini. Anything with Chambord is going to be good! For the main course, my friend had 2 of the sushi tools, which looked fresh and fabulous. She let me try one of them, yumtastic. I had Otto's Chicken, and man, do I wish chicken always tasted this good! Though some may view getting chicken at a "fancy" restaurant as a cop out, this is no ordinary chicken dish. New experience eating cranberry beans...they are alright. The arugula and andouille sausage with the chicken were great. For dessert, we revisited the dessert of my dreams, the chèvre cheesecake. This time it was paired with a spicy pear compote..mmm. GO TO six.one.six! It is the trifecta of stellar food, service, and ambiance.

Stayed at the JW for the weekend with my boyfriend, and decided to have breakfast before we checked out. It was fairly busy, but we were seated shortly. We ordered off of the menu, as opposed to the buffet, and it took about 30 minutes to receive our food. The omelette I ordered was probably the biggest I've ever seen, and was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the blueberry pancakes, and they were really good as well. The food was delicious, and the service was great, but it just took a bit to get to the table.

Damn, this place is good. Like really good! The beet salad was prime, the steak cooked to perfection, the cocktail was so delicious, and on top of it all excellent service! If it weren't so expensive (or if I had more money) I would go here a lot more regularly, but until then I'll save it for special occasions. Definitely worth trying!

This place was exceptional. We arrived on a busy Friday night, no reservations, and sat outdoors. We asked about sitting at one of the more comfortable cabana booths and they upgraded us right away. Not only was the atmosphere great, the service was excellent, and the food was even better. Had the truffle fries as an appetizer, and they were phenomenal! I don't generally eat Mayonnaise, but the dark truffle mayo was to die to for. For dinner I had the New York Strip. The steak was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and juicy on the inside. Desert may have been the best part though. The raspberry puree that the Lemon Meyer Mousse sits on top was a foodgasm in my mouth. This restaurant had excellent service, locally sourced ingredients, and amazing food. I would stop by again if I were in the area.

Vegans beware! We were in a large party on Christmas Day, and the person making our reservation noted that we had three vegans in the group. The server acknowledged this when we were seated, and said "the chef will be happy to make whatever you want," before going back to check in with the kitchen. A full 15 minutes later, it turns out the chef actually meant, "here are the side dishes on the printed menu that are vegan, and you can have any of these." So our daughter got pasta that came out the first time with cheese on it, and we got two decent salads for $11 each, dry lentils in tomato sauce and indelicately spiced couscous for what must have been a small fortune -- we didn't see the bill. The restaurant didn't seem very busy, but the service was very slow. Table was set with bread plates and butter knives, but no bread was offered. Surprisingly, dessert came out very fast and was pretty reasonably priced. Giving the restaurant two stars only because the waitstaff was exceptionally friendly. If you are into big hunks of meat, give it a shot. But the rest of the dining scene in Grand Rapids seems to be stepping up its vegan game, and this place needs to catch up.

Six One Six is a great spot to pick up a meal, brunch or after the show snack in the downtown area. It can be pricey for a dinner but lunch and breakfast rates are quite reasonable. I appreciate the local sourcing for many items used in meal prepartion. In fact, during the summer an organic garden just outside the restaurant which is along the river provides fresh produce and herbs for the kitchen. The kitchen is an 'open format' style affair. This sometimes allows for interesting conversation with the chef , who by the way, prepares some of the best omlettes available in GR for Sunday brunch. While the brunch menu is not as extensive as one would find in say a place like Charlie's Crab or the Spinnaker, it can be a nice spot to spend a relaxed Sunday morning or afternoon. If you're heading out after a downtown show or later in the evening, you might enjoy getting drinks and snacks at Mixology, the adjacent bar area which often features live music. We usually opt for a quieter setting in the restaurant and have always found the service and food to be above par. Favorites on the menu: flat bread appetizers, Trout Menuiere and their ever changing repetoire of intresting and flavorful soups!

This place has single handedly restored my opinion that hotel restaurants can actually be good. While staying at the JW recently we gave in and surrendered to our phobia of hotel restaurants...and glad we did. Veal chop, best we ever had. Duck confit salad and frisee with poached egg salad...awesome. In attempt to order the most unassuming and hopefully disappointing dish ('cause I really wanted something bad to happen all while supporting my mentioned phobia) I ordered the vegetarian dish. I'm not vegetarian. The pumpkin agnolotti was one of the best plates I had on our two week food vacation. Service and atmosphere matched the food. Perfect.

I had been to Six One Six before, a couple of years ago on my birthday. There were about 8 of us and we had drinks and dessert and everything was fine, but I hadn't been back since. We stayed at the JW Marriott and the package we purchased included breakfast. The night before, we ordered room service. We got the chocolate flour-less cake. I think I had this before. It was dense and rich - definitely fulfills a chocolate craving. I enjoyed the cherry preserves with it, but the whipped cream was not the same whipped cream we enjoyed the next morning at breakfast. I would say the dessert was good, but not $12 good, and probably not something I would order again. The actual room service, however, was excellent and the presentation was nice. The next morning we went to breakfast around 10:30 (Saturday). We were greeted promptly and there was no wait for a table. The server was a friendly young man who asked us if we were guests at the hotel, made small talk conversation, asked us if we'd like drinks and took our order. My husband and I both decided to get the breakfast buffet, which is usually $18 per person. I ordered decaf coffee and my husband ordered regular coffee. We each got our own personal little carafe of coffee. I thought this was a great idea, so we could refill our own cups and not have to wait for the server to come by. The coffee was no Douwe Egberts, but it was fine. The table had a variety of sweetener options, including Truvia. The breakfast buffet: My husband loved it. I thought it was pretty good, especially for a hotel breakfast buffet. I would actually say this was far better quality and provided me with more options than the buffet I had at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. My husband had a Belgian waffle and there were different topping options, including some of the best whipped cream I've ever had! There was a wide variety of baked goods including muffins, scones, croissants, bagels, breads, etc. There were packets of cream cheese, butter, peanutbutter, etc. Jam, preserves and apple butter were on our table. There were two types of sausage and a warmer with bacon. My husband and I had the chicken sausage and both enjoyed it very much. I was happy to see there were options other than pork, as I am allergic. There were American redskin potatoes (cut up, cubed w/ peels on) and those were good. They weren't really seasoned, but I just added pepper and some ketchup and hot sauce. There were also mini quiches. I didn't try them. You can order eggs any style, including omelets, and there was a list of several ingredient options. I had an omelet with spinach and mushrooms, no cheese. It was actually very good! There were trays with meat and cheeses, but this must be a popular item, because it was running low. I also saw a cast iron warming pot with oatmeal, and again, many mix-in items. There was also a table with a variety of single serve packages of cereals, I also saw granola, milk, Silk vanilla or chocolate single servings, and a lot of really great fresh fruit: green melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The fruit was fresh and delicious! I took some of the whipped cream from the waffle area for the fruit and yum. There were also individual packs of yogurt. I am not sure if I remembered all of the many options, but if I found more than enough to eat (being picky and having allergies), then I'm sure anyone would be happy with this breakfast bar. The server was attentive, and I really appreciate this considering I have experienced many servers who slack off when the table orders the buffet. He made sure our food was good, we had what we needed, our water glasses were full, and he cleared away our dishes, and never rushed us. It was an excellent end to our stay at the JW. I would definitely recommend the breakfast buffet at Six One Six.

Went here for a business dinner. We started with some sushi as an appetizer. It was great! For dinner I had the olive oil poached Alaskan halibut, but ordered without the pork belly. It was also fantastic. The menu is minimal, but the food is great. Makes or easier choice in ordering!

My husband and I visited Six one Six during a weekend trip to GR July 2013. We had amazing food and service! We loved the outdoor seating and the herb garden! The chef really knows how to make there seasonal menus unique. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We will recommend Six One Six to our friends and family.

It's no big secret that many restaurants' staffs, both front and back of house, can be divided into an A-team and a B-team (A being superior to B, of course), and the B-team is usually relegated to lunch. Perhaps this is why I was so unimpressed with Six One Six today: I ate lunch. I'd heard and read many good things, but my experience did not fulfill expectations. First, despite the restaurant being at a slow-to-medium level of business, the wait for the food was loooooong. No skin off my back, but an impatient diner would be annoyed. I don't give two shits how long things take--provided that the food makes me happy. Now about that... How excited I was to see a menu item like pork belly tacos with avocado crema. I mean, crispy piggy goodness in a tortilla! I'm still convinced this is a good idea, but today's offering did not deliver evidence for support. The pork, though crispy as advertised and well-seasoned, reached my mouth only marginally above room temperature. The avocado crema didn't disappoint, but was slathered on in such a quantity as to drown out the other flavors. Amplifying this unfortunate phenomenon was the fact that there just wasn't much substantive food in the tortilla. Save for the stingy portion of pork and a light dusting of queso fresco, the rest of the taco's contents were essentially condiments: the aforementioned crema, tomato guajillo sauce, and onion cilantro. The pork tacos were served with homemade tortilla chips, which were soggy and coated with a spice blend that I'm sure would be quite good if not applied with the ferocity of a sandstorm. Similarly, one would expect perch to make more than a cameo appearance in a dish called Great Lakes perch tacos, but Six One Six's rendering required deep focus to convince yourself that you were, indeed, eating fish. To be fair, the diner who ordered these asked for the perch to be pan-fried instead of deep-fried, so the version I tasted wasn't quite what the chef had intended, but again, there was so little of the fish that I can't imagine that this changed much. The perch taco was finished with a tasty sauce gribiche, but like the pork taco, the proportions of the dish's components were unforgivably out of whack. The club sandwich was garden-variety. A sun-dried tomato mayo offered a mild reprieve from the ordinary, and the nutty wheat bread on which it was served was nice, but aside from that, it was a big 'Meh.' Truffle fries, served in the traditional paper cone and sprinkled with parmigiano and herbs, were a bright spot--and would have been brighter, had they been served sufficiently hot. The dish's name is somewhat of a misnomer, as the truffle appears only in the mayonnaise accompanying the fries. This mayo was tasty, though, with an earthy undertone that may or may not have been actual truffle; whatever it was, it worked. A common theme in the hot dishes I tasted was that they were not, in fact, hot. Whether fault for this lay in the hands of the server or the kitchen, I don't know, but someone dropped the ball. I'm not ready to completely write off Six One Six, though, as there is a lot to love about the menu on a conceptual level. Perhaps my experience today was effected by a B-team that was not quite ready for prime time. Just execute! Correct those proportions, serve the food at an appropriate temperature and in an appropriate duration of time, and they're in business.

We used to go here for birthday dinners but the most recent two were lacking a certain something in the food. It was not as good as it used to be. Not sure why. We have stopped going for birthdays because of this. However, their patio on the river is still the best place for drinks in town.
