I noticed this place last week so I decided to walk over on my lunch hour. This turned out to be a great decision. The restaurant is modern and well kept, the food is outstanding and the servers are attentive. I will definitely be bringing others from the office in the future.

Went here twice - once for a friend's wedding. Being indian she searched all the choices in town and wanted the bear restaurant so she chose this one. Must say it was an excellent choice. Both the Indian and non Indian guests loved the food. It was not very spicy but very tasty. The only other place with good Indian food is the other new restaurant called Taj Mahal. Check out both places and neither will disappoint

Can't stop raving about Palace of India. I have had Indian food in New York, Palm Beach, FL and England and by far this was the best I have ever eaten!!! If I could give 6+ stars I would. The Tandoori Shrimp were served on a hot iron platter coated in herbs and a bit of char, fresh fresh fresh...and a big portion to share. The Chicken Tikka Masala was thick and creamy and very flavorful...lovely over the Basmati rice. We ordered garlic Naan and Kashmiri Naan, both excellent! We had to try their Palak Paneer and were very pleased we did. It was delish! My friend order a Kingfisher beer which she enjoyed with the spicy foods. I'm looking forward to many more visits! Highly recommended!

The first time I had food from Palace of India was when my husband had to cater a business meeting. The food was phenomenal-- samosas, chicken tikka masala, chana masala, saag paneer, curry chicken, naan-- everything was good! So we decided to eat in on a Saturday night about 9pm. We were not the only table there that late, and they were happy to seat us. The first thing that I noticed was how clean and nicely decorated the restaurant is. The service was ok, not bad, but just maybe a little odd because no one really said much to us. Anyway, we ordered the samosas, lamb kabobs, chicken tikka masala, bhindi masala (okra), and a bread basket. First, they brought out free papadums with a sweet tamarind chutney and a spicy cilantro chutney. Then, we had the samosas; they were hot and filled with potatoes and peas! They were delish! As for the entrees, they were all really good! The okra was my favorite and my husband's go-to chicken tikka masala was also amazing! The sauce was creamy and a little spicy. The bread basket was my favorite! We picked the cheese naan, garlic naan, onion kulcha, and parantha.....all of them were amazing!! They were served very hot in and cut up into pieces for sharing. There are no "spice levels" here. They told me that most of the dishes are served medium spicy, so if you do not like spicy, definitely tell them to keep your food mild! My nose was running by the end of the meal! FYI: They did NOT bring us rice to go with our dishes (minus 1 star). Every Indian restaurant that I've been to has always included rice with the entrees. We had to ask for rice, and then didn't find out until we got the bill that they charged $2.95 per bowl!!! I was very upset. Next time, I will just order entrees to-go and make my own rice at home!

The new chef is blowing my mind! I wonder if he has discovered how to get crack into the ghee. Black dal, yellow dal, vindaloo, palak paneer, the tandori, the breads - very tasty every time. Parking in back. Open late. Full bar. Comfortable seating. Attentive service. Classy ambiance. A lively view out the front. Super nice owners. I'm telling all my Indian friends down at Whirlpool that this is the place to check out in GR,

Terribly slow service. Only three tables in the restaurant and took nearly an hour to get food. Go to Bombay instead. Much better food and service.

Best Indian buffet I have enjoyed a while. For 9 bucks your are offered some of the best Indian food in the Midwest. The food here is very very good, The service is good. The atmosphere is bland but very nice. I did not see any goat or lamb on the buffet, but the rest of the dishes were enough to keep me happy. I just wished it was in Sacramento.

Being an Indian, the food was not as per expectation. I went with 3 of my friends from Ohio. Biryani tasted like sambar rice. Tandoori was not having any spice or flavour. Service takes time and waiters do not pay attention to customers. Mango lassi came late.

Husband & I stopped in here yesterday after church. The ambience is excellent & the service very good. The food on the the lunch buffet left quite a bit to be desired. Other than vegetarian, chicken was the only option. No lamb, no goat, no meatballs. The dishes such as Butter Chicken & Chicken Vindaloo had many blocks of Indian cheese and/or potato in them, but few pieces of chicken. We should have take more pieces of Tandoori Chicken. It was OK. If we come again, we will try ordering off the menu. Platinumtrav 8/17/15

Um... this place DELIVERS. I can't explain how exciting it is to have delivery that is not pizza. The fact that the food is absolutely delicious indian cuisine (the best in town) makes me so excited that my very lazy self logged onto yelp in order to share my enthusiasm. I started with samosas, and was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and delightful they were (I can usually take them or leave them). I then dug into the Palak Paneer. Whenever I try a new place I start with my good ol' fallback, it serves as my litmus test. And I am pleased to say it passed with flying colors. I could actually taste spinach and cheese, instead of only a glob of goop and spices. I'm excited to dine in once I get my act together and leave the house. In the meantime, delivery it is!

If you're a vegetarian looking for an awesome lunch at a decent price check this place out. $8.95 is a steal especially considering the fresh baked naan bread. Servers are good too. I had the buffet and have been disappointed by other GR buffets in the past. It's not a million items but 8 great items and over half are vegetarian.

When we walked into Palace of India we were one of only 3 different parties eating. Yet we had to wait for service a fairly long time. The young man who served us was a bit abrupt and definitely not friendly or helpful in any way. To be fair, we wondered if this might be because he didn't speak English as a first language - but just the fact that we were wondering that gives you an idea of how very little he spoke. The service was slow - not shocking for this type of restaurant but when the food arrived it was delicious. Samosas, Naan, curry, rice, everything was hot, fresh, and scrumptious. In contrast to the yummy food, the atmosphere is nice but a little bland.

I just waited an hour and a half for my food. It got to me cold. I ordered butter chicken, got chicken tikka masala. Ordered spice level 5, got a one. I won't waste my time or money ordering here again. Might be willing to try in restaurant, but it's doubtful.

This restaurant used to be on Fulton by the old farmers market. I loved it then and thought it had the best Indian in town. Sadly they moved. Now they have reopened downtown in a brand new fully refurbished space. Now the ambiance is the best for Indian in Grand Rapids. I should mention that I have dined here ( both locations) easily 30 times. I have also tried every Indian restaurant in town and many in Ann Arbor, Chicago and Detroit. They have the best Indian food in the area. Period. This is why they are the "go to"place for Indian catering, doing big catering jobs as far away as Kalamazoo and holland. I always think the food here is extremely authentic flavourful and fresh. It would be a success in any big city. Can't say that about the other Indian food I have in town. The menu has real depth so you have to work hard to pick a dish that is not terrific. All of the classics are outstanding: chicken tikka, butter chicken etc...The vegan dishes are also awesome I hear they will soon get beer, wine and maybe even cocktails. I am baffled by Jim Os bad service experience because it is run and owed by a husband and wife time who are exceptionally warm, gracious and service oriented. They really care like owners always do. Ask to speak with the owners they are great people. I find the service to be a full level above all other Indian in town. This is based on my 30 or so visits. Maybe Jim o caught them on a rare bad day? If you love great Indian and have had the typical mediocre Indian food experiences here in GR. Try this place, check out the new digs in the downtown location and see if you agree that it is the best for food an even service.

Best Indian food in West Michigan. Good enough to compete with Indian restaurants in Chicago. The food is consistent and delicious. My go-to dishes are dal makhani and chicken vindaloo, but I've also tried other dishes and the lunch buffet. The service is also very warm and welcoming, too. I feel like an extended family member when I dine here. Happy to have such a great place so close!

Not bad. Pretty average. Came in and ordered the Dal soup and tandoori chicken. The soup was fantastic, the chicken was average, and their chai tea is not too bad either. Overall, pretty slow service, especially considering the lack business at the time. I would come here again to give it another shot but it's probably not a place I would recommend to a friend. Also, very overpriced. For tea, soup, and a chicken dish...$20? I'll pass next time.

I recently tried Palace of India for the first and second time. We had takeout the first time and I ordered my usual chicken saag. It was delicious, some of the best saag I've ever had. I've also tried their lunch buffet. Very good dishes and the staff is extremely friendly! We will definitely be going back soon.

Not sure what Jim O is talking about re: service. We were seated immediately, our order taken as soon as we were ready (I had a hard time deciding), and our water glasses were never empty and they did so without seeming intrusive. Before any of our order came out, we received some hard flat...chips? I'm not quite sure what they were, but they came with two types of chutney and it was a great sweet/spicy mix to have before the "real" meal started. Our order included appetizers - both the paneer pakora and cheese naan were quite delicious. They also came out rather quickly. Better yet, waitstaff timed the time between bringing out the appetizers and the main course; having worked as a waitress, I know how difficult that can be. I don't quite remember what my friends got (I think butter chicken and chicken tikka masala), but they were both very pleased with what they received. I got dal gosht and it was AMAZING. We also got garlic naan, which was super garlicky and I love garlic. Portions look small, but then you start eating...and wow, it's actually a lot. All three of us brought home leftovers big enough for a second meal. Mine warmed up really well too! One star off because the cheese naan didn't mention there were peppers in it and my friend is mildly allergic to them.

Dined at Palace of India on a weekday for their lunch buffet and I was very satisfied with the variety and quality of the buffet offerings. Their butter chicken was heavenly, and freshly-made, oven-hot naan was brought to our table just as we got back from our first trip up to the buffet line. Friendly, prompt service at a good price. The high-backed chairs provide some privacy at individual tables and the interior is flooded with natural light from the giant windows that face Fulton; really nice atmosphere and perfect for a business or casual lunch. We'll be back!

Best Indian food I've ever had from west to east coast, and in GR. And they deliver! First, it actually tastes fresh. It arrives at your door in about 40 min, which means they don't just microwave it quickly before delivering. Someone in a beautiful car delivers it wearing a nice suit, and you can tell there's quality and pride in the details. And the food itself tastes like someone authentically prepared it with real spices from scratch (not just mixed out of a pouch or jar). This place is definitely the go to Indian restaurant in GR!

Service has always been an issue with this place regardless of the location. Ignored for 10 minutes upon arrival, one waiter working a few tables, the other person, I assume was the manager, was on the phone constantly. The restaurant wasn't very busy (three tables) and even when the waiter passed by our table several times, nothing was said nor were we acknowledged. No one took a drink order or seemed at all interested in waiting on us. When you have to ask to order it's a problem. We decided to go next door to One Trick Pony for dessert and drinks where the service was outstanding! The food was good. Not a place I'd recommend or return to. There are plenty of other places to eat downtown with good service.

I've been here before but today was spectacular. The food is hitting on all cylinders. We went for the lunch buffet and I've never had better butter chicken. I've eaten Indian in Madison, Ann Arbor, etc but this was out of this world. Everything on the buffet popped in flavor. No wait to be seated and plenty of parking in back of restaurant. Service was great and attentive. Can't say enough wonderful things about this place. I will be back as soon as I can. I live out of GR so it's a hike for us but worth every mile. Went in today for their lunch buffet, very tasty! Lots of non-vegetarian options, and a few non-spicy dishes for the kiddos! Aloo Masala was perfectly spiced, as well as, the Butter Chicken. Just wish they also offered Samosas on the buffet, these are usually my favorite go-to-appetizers at Indian restaurants. Unfortunately not a fan of the dessert offered, which was Gulab Jamun (fried ball of milk/flour served in a sugar syrup). Service was great! Definitely planning to go back and try their other menu items!

I am visiting Grand Rapids from San Diego. My brother told me about Palace of India so my wife and I decided to give it a try. The restaurant was newly built out and super clean. The food was as good as Indian food I have had in New York, Chicago, or San Francisco. We ate the buffet which I usually find to be lacking in flavor. The food was super flavorful but not overly spicy. It was so good we returned the next day. I will make this place a must on future visits to Grand Rapids.

India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind.

(5)Andy N.

(5)Zachary M.

(5)Jenny S.
(3)Cathy W.

So, so good. The lunch buffet is insane. I love the variety of their vegetarian dishes, which many other Indian lunch buffets lack. Run, don't walk!!

Best Indian food I've had in Grand Rapids. My husband loved the Lamb Tandoori. New location is a win. We will definitely be back. Plus, they deliver. Bonus!
