It is with a heavy heart I deliver this review... There has only been four times in my life where I did not pay for a dish and a few days ago, while dining at Osaka, was the fourth. I ate with my parents who work off Patterson and they had seen the signs many times and wanted to check it out. I met them there for dinner and we were disappointed. First, I'm going to say that I really thought our server was a sweet heart. She was very polite and kind. I felt bad that I didn't eat my meal because she looked so sad when she took away my dishes. That withstanding, she also did not speak great English which made it hard for my father to understand what sauce would be on the chicken wings he ordered for an appetizer. I think toward the end he wasn't sure if they were spicy, sour, hot, sweet or tangy but ordered them anyway. The execution of the dishes we ordered were all sloppily done and with poor quality product. Sushi really is one of the food items I don't want to have second rate preparations for and ours was definitely second rate. The salmon was cut incorrectly, the rice had no flavor, the surf clam (hokkigai) had good texture but a horrible tin flavoring which tells me it is not being stored properly, and the Osaka Roll was okay. I ordered the Beef Udon and it was just plain bad. The noodles were overcooked and had no flavor, the broth had no flavor and the beef was overcooked and dried out from sitting in the broth too long. I still feel bad for that bowl... I wish Osaka the best but much work needs to go into service training, food preparation, menu development and upkeep to the restaurant.

Excellent presentation and some fun sushi chefs. Affordable and not very expensive, but just ok fish.

Stopped by this restaurant while staying overnight in Grand Rapids on a roadtrip. It was a chilly night, so I ordered the seafood shabu-shabu (hot pot) and appreciated that they served authentic ingredients (heads-on shrimp, napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, kamaboko fish cake, lotus root). My only gripe about the shabu-shabu is that the soup broth is far too salty. They probably used chicken broth with high sodium content. I ended up not drinking the soup at the end, which is somewhat wasteful, but I did eat all of the main ingredients. This place also serves teppanyaki, which many establishments turn into a show for the chefs to entertain the customers. The chefs are quite boisterous (read: loud) so I wasn't able to eat my meal in peace and quiet. Other than that, I thought they served good shabu-shabu.

Someone told me that Osaka had some of the best sushi in GR. Sorry, I totally disagree. It was OK, but I've certainly had much better.

Osaka is truly one of my favorite restaurants. I've taken my daughters there several times and we always have a great experience. The sushi is tasty and beautifully presented. The hibachi experience is always entertaining. Shabu shabu is a nice social thing to do with friends. Don't do that if you're in a hurry. Everything here is meant to be savored. If you're in a hurry, tell the server. Otherwise go down the street to McDonald's. Thanks to all the chefs and waitstaff at Osaka. So glad to have you here in Grand Rapids.

A bunch of us stopped in for lunch. We ate at one of the tables where they cook the food for you, however we just ordered off the menu. It was awkward trying to eat on it. The service was a bit slow and the food kinda boring. They could have blindfolded me and could not have told the difference between this place and any other of the multitude of other sushi places. Well, except for the weird tables.

My parents know the owners, so they took us here as soon as we arrived from out of town. Very friendly staff. Entertaining cook. Beautiful, comfortable decor and building. Lots of food! The teppanyaki food was great - better than at some other places I've had. I really enjoyed my fried rice as it wasn't overloaded with soy or teriyaki sauce. Meat was cooked to our liking and they served PLENTY of vegetables. The sushi, however, did not rank high: both of the rolls I ordered were tasteless (even the Grand Rapids roll with the mango on top), and I did not like that the raw tuna was chopped into fine pieces inside one of them. I wished they had left the tuna in larger slices to give my teeth the chance to chew into something meatier. I did NOT get that umami sense I usually get with sushi elsewhere! Understand that your clothes and hair will smell like the restaurant once you leave. The facility looks very nice and clean... so far. That's to be expected since they're fairly new, but I'm curious to see how well they keep this up in the coming year. Parking lot is a little tight and sloped in the front. It was getting dark, so I did not see what more space they might've had. Though Wikipedia says the term "hibachi" is ok to refer to the hot-plate surface type of cooking, this should really be called "teppanyaki." Osaka does not have true hibachi.

Great hibachi style food! Service is good, chefs are funny and kid-friendly, and food is amazing!!! Who doesn't love pigging out to course after course of rice, steak, vegetables, and noodles?!

I came here during their soft opening. It is newly renovated, but someone forgot to put in some lights. I love the dark wood but, it was afternoon when my mom and I stopped in and it was quite dark on the inside. I'm sure they were tying to give it an intimate feeling, but it felt awkward for being the middle of the day. They have a large menu of sushi and other food options as well. My mom and I ordered a bento box and five sushi rolls. The sushi was good, but the bento box came with plain white rice, not a sticky rice as we are accustomed to seeing. Our server was very friendly and eager to hear our thoughts on the food. We said that we were pleased with the sushi and made him aware of our concerns regarding the rice in the bento. I have yet to return to see if any changes were made, but I still plan on eating here again now that they have been open longer.

Awful service waited well over an hour for our food . All our waitress did was apologize but made no difference in our bill . We got up and left before our reorder was up . Awful !!!!

I've had Sushi & Shabu all over the US and Japan and I love this place. The service is courteous and quick. I love the Jalepeno roll. The Shabu chef was a riot! I've never left here less than thrilled with my experience. The place is almost always busy when I'm here, so what does that tell you?

  • Andy N.

Went during their opening week when they offered 50% off, and boy am I glad that it was 50% off because I was very disappointed in the ShabuShabu and sushi. After just being in California and having Shabu over there (JazzCat Yummmm!!) this place is like eating at McDonalds. I ordered the spicy broth, and boy was it spicy..no flavor just spice, I think all they did was throw a bunch of peppers and hot chili into the broth. The meat that was given was not presented well at all, seem like they sliced some meat and threw it onto the plate. Vegi's were also given, and not to seem too picky but really iceburg salad for my shabu? And the fishballs i ordered were frozen solid, it still had ice on them. The sushi was so-so, I have had alot better in GR and this would rank on the lower half. I did not have their Hibachi and I plan not to b/c everything else did not meet my expectations.

I went there cos one of my friends posted on facebook that they had shabu shabu (which is called hot pot in china) there. turns out its one of the worst meals i ever had since i came to the U.S.; my husband's sushi was (below) average, taste no better than Kroger's sushi. the only redeeming point is that we went there on wednesday so the sushi is 50% off. anyways, we will never go back there.

  • Heather J.

Love this place! I have been a few times now and had pleasant experiences each time. The wait staff is always very friendly and when we went on a night that wasn't busy the chef came out to speak with us to make sure everything tasted well. Half-Off Wednesday is packed but they were still able to accommodate a large group (8 people) with almost no wait time. We go back to this place on a regular basis because the menu has a wide variety and we want to try everything. UPDATE: I have gone back a few times now and it seems the more popular this place becomes the longer it takes to get food. The food is still amazing, but it is no longer a place to go unless your have a few hours for dinner.

I just wanted to add that the miso soup in Osaka is true miso as is served in a Japanese restaurant. Unlike the other place in town that shockingly passes Lipton onion soup as miso soup. Miso soup is made out of miso or soy bean paste. The bowl should look like there is a cloud of 'miso' in the soup when left undisturbed for a couple of minutes. It should also have small cubes of tofu and some shreds of sea weed. Also as one reviewer pointed out the correct term for the cooking of steaks on the table is Tepanyaki. But I have yet to see a local Japanese restaurant call it that. If you go to big cities or anywhere in Asia you will see Tepanyaki in Japanese steak houses. I am sure Osaka did this so as not to confuse people anymore. Does not bother me. I am glad that Osaka opened with the offerings they have. It's about time for Grand Rapids. Go there and enjoy the experience.

Why You'll Like It: Super friendly and hospitable wait staff A huge menu to choose from, something for everyone Shabu, Hibachi, and regular seating options Very clean and smart choice to go on a date Mochi is hella good Even without the 50% off deal this place is mad cheap!!! Why You Might Not Like It: Many people have not experienced Shabu/Hot Pot, so you might not know what to expect and may even make a big mess at your table, luckily they give trainer chopsticks so you can't mess it up bc it's like using tongs and all you need to do is squeeze the chopsticks together. You aren't into Asian Fusion restaurants. The sushi I had was wrapped in Vietnamese clear spring roll wrap. I am planning on going back again to try the hibachi and other dishes, especially because it is half off everything this week. Unlike the previous reviewer, I think this place is at least worth the half off prices haha.

Took my 18 year old son to Osaka because he wanted sushi and I wanted beef. A perfect solution. Sorry to say it was disappointing. My beef terayak was overcooked and under seasoned. The veggies were greasy. His salad was soggy and the sushi so so. A no go for us.

I'd just like to say that this was my first hibachi experience, and the atmosphere was very good. Our chef was fun, talkative, and skillful. The food was quite delicious. Something about the service was just OFF. I ordered a beer and our server asked if I wanted "Big or Small", 16oz or 22oz, respectively. I defiitely said SMALL. He brought a large. Later he came around and showed our whole table a live scallop, just to show us. He explained that since it was out of the water, it was dying, so he asked if any of us wanted to "try it". I was feeling adventurous, it was my birthday, and since he offered so casually, I saw nothing wrong with 'trying it'... ya know - because it was dying anyways. Fast forward to the check. .. BOOM... $17.50 for a live scallop. I'm sorry, but this server could have made it a LOT more clear that I wasn't just trying a scallop because it was dying, I was purchasing ONE scallop for the price of another entire entree... Un-real! We spoke with him about it, and he said the manager agreed to charge us only $8. Their sneaky up-sells are enough for me to write a review. So know that the food is good but they'll charge you more with every chance.

I LOVE the 1/2 off sushi they offer all day on Mondays/Wednesdays! It s a great price and you can order alot without emptying your wallet. With that said, its not top grade sushi, but for the price you pay, its definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I ordered 7 rolls. Total bill + tax&tip was ~$30. After stuffing our faces, we took home almost 2 whole rolls for a late night snack!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones based in the other reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. I ordered the sashimi deluxe along with some toro and the presentation was awesome. I sat at the sushi bar and chatted with one of the chefs who was quite knowledgable. Service was great and prompt although my waiter had a strong Accent and was a bit hard to understand at times but I give him an A for effort. Sushi was very fresh and tasty. They would get 5 stars if they had Uni.

I had dinner here. I had the hibachi shrimp. It came with noodles (good), fried rice (just ok), and onion soup (just ok). The shrimp was barely luke warm when my waiter dropped the plate at my table and disappeared for 15 minutes. When he returned he seemed put off when I told him the shrimp was not hot. He asked if I wanted it "more well done." I said I just wanted it hot enough to eat. He took it away and said he would microwave it. The shrimp was rubbery after that. But I just ate it. Clearly the management here has no problem with subpar food and lousy service. The atmosphere is pretentious and the food is definitely overpriced. I will not go back.

The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because I liked their sushi (on Wednesday when it's half off). The sushi was good and I would most likely go back again. Probably only on half off day though. The service, however, was not good at all. We waited forever for our bill and when we finally got it the waiter had added two things that we didn't order. I would only go back because I like cheap sushi. I would just hope for better service next time.

WORST HIBACHI I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I understand as a first week opening there are certain exceptions to lengthy waits and customer service as all staff are in a training process. I enjoyed the atmosphere, however was met by a hostess who didn't smile, didn't make eye contact or acknowledge us. Instead she helped those currently waiting and eventually asked us, "how many". Once we were sat, it took more than 20 minutes before any server came to us (keep in mind we had waited 10 minutes at the door) and when she did, no introduction, no smile, just an explanation of how she would be bringing us water and be right back. I asked if the hot tea was decaffeinated (as I am not supposed to have caffeine). I was told she was going to let me know. 10 minutes later we were brought our drinks, including a tea that I didn't order with no answer to my question. While waiting my husband drew back his arm to find it covered in a sauce left over from a previous patron and find it all over the inside back of his chair, arm and shirt. Our table was only half wiped off with sauce spills and grease from the earlier sitters. I moved my foot to find there was food crammed under my seat, as well as a dirty napkin! Then, I went to use the restroom and saw that my entire back was covered with someone else rice!!!! By now I was about to leave except we got our salads and I was hungry. Little did I know it would be another 40 minutes before I got my soup...upon request...after 3 people at my table had already gotten theirs (leaving 6 of us waiting), and during the cooking of our hibachi. We started to run out of room so we ended up busing our own table and placing our used dishes on the neighboring dirty one. There was never once a server who came and asked about refills or if we needed anything. Not once during the entire meal. We were ALL remarking how thirsty we were. After ALL of us were done eating it took another 20 minutes to have my husband watching the TV and the server lean from a neighboring table and yell to him, "I'll be over after getting their order". Completely rude. My experience was one like I have never had before and I wish I had gone to McDonalds. I understand that there are kinks to be worked out upon opening but this was inexcusable. It was disgusting and took 2 1/2 hours for a horrible experience. Terrible customer service and horrible sanitation!

I didn't think it was as bad as others thought. The service was okay.. wasn't horrible or great though. I ordered the Hibachi chicken even though I didn't do the Hibachi Tables. I definitely think Fuji Yama is much better than this place. I could hear the Hibachi chef singing "This Girl Is On Fire" as a joke during a hibachi table session. I thought this was pretty clever. I couldn't see it from where I was sitting at.. but it probably was during one of his flame tricks.

I went to try out this new sushi/hibachi place on 28th. They are doing a half off everything deal for their opening week. I understand that the food is half off but wow....i cant believe I spent any money on that food. I had their sushi, 2 special rolls and 2 classic rolls. All their rolls just taste like straight up mayo. Plus, correct me if i'm wrong but rolls are supposed to be round.....The presentation of the food was horrible. a piece of old torn lettuce accompanied my rolls.....lettuce!

It was my boyfriend's birthday, We decided to try it out. I had high expectations for this place, but once my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant. The hostness was a bit rude, did not make any eye contact or greeted at us with SMILE. She didn't even asked my boyfriend if we wanted to sat at Sushi, habachi or Shabu Shabu section. She just said, "Where do you want sit at?" (I was like?) said to the hostness, "Its our first time here" She goes, "we have sushi, habachi and shabu shabu. I felt unwelcome!!! I know its busy with the 50% off this week. She just told us to sit at the Bar, gonna be 5 minute wait. We ordered some drinks..5 min went by... 10 min went by~~ AHHH finally after 20minutes wait!! We were finally seated!! We ordered 2 special rolls and One Beef/one seafood shabu shabu." When we got our shabu shabu and large bowl of assorted vegetables. And small plates of seafood and Beef. I'm little picky on types of beef meats esp in my shabu shabu. First and foremost, you've got to start with the quality of the meat. If that's wrong, if they cut it too thick or too thin, if it's grainy or gristly. The meats that I had was too thin. My waiter didn't even give me extra chopstick or any tongs to grab the raw meats/seafood. I had to use my own chopstick, which I do not like!!! After half way done with our shabu shabu, we finally got our sushi.. my boyfriend wasn't happy with the presentation. We thought waiting for 40 minutes for sushi, the presentation would be breathtaking? Not!! My waiter was friendly yet nervous, but he did forgot to give us soy sauce bottle and two small plates for dipping the sushi. Back to sushi presentation, the sauces smeared all over the rolls it looks awful!!! I've never had any sushi rolls that has so many sauces on it that I can't even enjoy the sushi rolls, also the pickled ginger on the plate!! wow half cup size of those? Such a waste!! The rolls looks nothing like the ones from The Grand Rapids Press, Mlive.com .

I found this place by accident and I am so glad I did. The best thing about Osaka is their Osaka roll and half-off sushi rolls on Monday's and Wednesday's! The first thing you will notice about Osaka is that it is hidden next door to a hotel on a busy street leading to the highway. A difficult to find place and get into the parking lot but well worth the fight with traffic. Once parked, you enter into a very Japanese looking lobby and to the right are tables for the hibachi and shabu meals and to the left the bar and behind tables for normal sushi meals. The waiters are very polite, service is quick and the food delicious. My brother and I have been there multiple times for the sushi and have tried to taste the hibachi and shabu a few times. My first time eating shabu our waitress helped explain how to make our food and how long to cook most of the meat (we got the chicken and miso broth). I enjoy the feeling after a meal to sit back and drink their amazing green tea.

Ramen is good, not instant noodle, pork is done perfectly, soup base is miso. Draft beer including Sapporo and local brewery, overall a good dinner spot.

A great lunch time option, especially on half off days! I visited on a Wednesday for their half off sushi (they also have half off on Mondays). I ordered two of their unique rolls from their extensive menu. I found both to be moist, well put together, and flavorful, not to mention, very colorful. I also ordered a side of Miso soup and found it fresh although I would have liked more tofu and green onions in it. We sat outside on their small patio, but the dining room is large with plenty of seating. They also offer hibachi on one side of the restaurant. The service was friendly and for a busy lunch rush, it was relatively quick to get in and out paying with a credit card.

Monday's and Wednesday's half off sushi! Staff is nice and the hibachi is awesome. Wait time sometimes is a little long depending on the time and day but overall it's a good place with good food.

I tried half off sushi at Osaka for the first time last night. I got there pretty early, as I knew it would probably get busy quickly. My friend and I split about 6-7 rolls (mostly specialty rolls) and all of them were great! I would say it's definitely on par with the quality at Fujiyama (where I also love to go for half off sushi!). The fish all tasted fresh and the rolls were all pretty flavorful. They are a little on the smaller side, though, so be aware of that. (Similar size or a bit smaller than Fujiyama.) Our server was pretty good, she got slowed down a bit as it got busier there but that's to be expected! I will probably go back again for half off! The sashimi there is some of the cheapest I've found ($4-$5 for 3 pieces of sashimi). It is not included in the 1/2 off deal. All rolls are included though, unlike Fujiyama where you can only order certain ones and get half off. I liked that.

Have tried the trifecta - shabu shabu, hibachi and sushi. The shabu is like cooking with a hot pot built into your table. You order different proteins off the menu and are provided veggies. You mix your own sauce and cook everything in your hot pot. A lot of work and if you aren't good with flavor, this isn't for you. Fun novelty, not worth the effort. Hibachi is typical - cook flips knives and spatulas and throws rice in your pie hole. Usually a flaming volcano made of onions. Presentation is nice for a group, taste is ok. Sushi - lots of good rolls to choose from. One of my favorites is the spicy scallop. The other is the lobster roll made with soy paper. Not the best quality seafood, but above average. Insider tips: go on Mon or Wed which features half off all sushi all day, including specialty rolls. Caution: these days the lines are long and you will be waiting after ordering for close to an hour - lunch or dinner time. You can sit in the hibachi area and only order sushi if you get impatient waiting for a table. If you have the time, makes it worth it for the price.

  • Michelle C.

I was in the area for business and came here alone for hibachi dinner. For coming alone, I had a good time. Hibachi chef was personable and entertaining and interacted with the group well. My issue was with the wait staff- I felt they were short with guests, unattentive, and slightly rude. The food was good- a typical hibachi fare but it was too salty. I sucked down water for the next 12 hours. Next time, I'll probably stay away from hibachi and try sushi.

It was a Friday night around seven pm when we decided to give this place a whirl. Me and my boyfriend are both foodies and very into sushi as well. The parking lot was pretty empty, maybe eight cars. Upon entering we were seated promptly in a booth. At which time we noticed it was very very cold in there. So cold I could not remove my coat. We sat for at least five minutes before a server even came to say hello. This whole time having nothing to drink, not even water. Once the Server came up I ordered a white wine, my boyfriend ordered the house hot saki. About Another five minutes go by and finally she brings our drinks, sort of. Mine was correct, however my boyfriend was served a big glass of dark beer. The Server ran away so quickly we couldn't even say anything. Another five minutes go by, and while we are waiting my boyfriend discovers some gross brown sticky stuff has gotten on his white golf shirt from the side of the table. The waitress finally returns, at which point we ask for the check and explain her mistake. We also inform her we are going to go elsewhere to dine. Neither of us drank our drinks, and the restaurant still changed us for my wine!!!! Now, maybe it's just me, but I think that we should not have paid. We immediately left and went to Sushi Kuni where we are always taken care of and the food is excellent.

This place is not authentic Japanese restaurant. Mainland chinese running it. Hibachi is chinese food and pass it on as Japanese. Hibachi food if very salty. You will need to drink alot of water for this meal. Cheap soy sauce ( water and salt ) in fry rice. Meijer 1 dollar spaghetti noodles was used in hibachi and water down salad dressing. Dinner box or Bento this is a joke. It has chinese egg roll , Shumai , sweet carrot from can. IT got thai sweet chili sauce all over it. The chicken , beef , shrimp and salmon grill and coated with honey sauce. Now you wonder why they come out so fast. The food is frozen and can they just precooked it . shabu-shabu --- you will need to order more water. It got ton of MSG in it soup base. It is not the real stuff. I will never eat at this place. IT is chinese food pass on as Japanese.

It's another Asian fusion restaurant doing every popular Americanized versions of of their dishes. The sushi is average at best and the hibachi is a buttery greasy feast. The staff is friendly, service tends to be on the slow side. They have a good location also.

  • Jenn R.

The food is good, but the service is crap. I sat waiting for my waiter for about 15 minutes yesterday and I was even ready to order after about two minutes. This was even before I got my drink. After that everything was good, but there have been several times (about 90% of the time I go there) when the service has been terrible.

Not sure why all the bad reviews. My wife and I went here on Saturday for lunch. Some co-workers had recommended. We had the teppanyaki and sushi. Couple of points: - Interior is very nice compared to exterior. - Food is cheap and portions are large (teppanyaki lunch was around $8/$9 pp). - Our teppanyaki chef was very entertaining and engaging. - Sushi was good. In fact, better than most of the more popular places around GR. We moved from DC and sushi here has been lacking. Will def. be back.

Worst Asian food experience in my life. I read the reviews before I took my family here. I was in mixed feelings but I wanted to give it a shot. I badly regret this decision. We returned the entire sushi plate and left with empty stomach. Noodle was bad as well. The soup, the salad, pretty much nothing we ordered tasted good.

Sat at the bar for an early dinner on Sunday. Service was very quick and courteous. I got the seaweed salad as an appetizer which was typical for a place like this. I also got 2 rolls : plain Yellowtail roll and spicy lovers roll (spicy tuna, avocado with spicy salmon crunch and caviar on top). Both were ok. The 2nd roll had way too much mayo and hardly any caviar. Moreover, the spicy tuna was more like a mash of some sort with a weird dark pink color. Not the best I've had but ok.

Osaka truly has some of the best sushi in town! It is a great place to go with friends and family. Sometimes the service can be kind of bad, and if you come on a Monday or Wednesday evening be prepared for long waits.

This establishment is simply amazing! As a frequent business traveler I always seek out the best sushi and hibachi restaurants to try while I am on the road. Osaka is my local favorite and easily in my top 5 out of any of the places that I have frequented in Los Angeles, Manhattan, Miami, and other big cities throughout the U.S. The atmosphere is most excellent and the chefs and wait staff are always very good as well. SUSHI: The sushi is some of the freshest I have ever had and they have a ton of rolls to choose from. Mondays & Wednesdays are 50% of sushi days from open to close. This goes for all of the rolls, even the specialty ones! If you want a local Grand Rapids restaurant for sushi that will rival anything that you will find on Michigan Ave in Chicago or Broadway in Manhattan, this is the place for you! HIBACHI: When you come for Hibachi you must request either Sumo or James as your Chef, you will have the time of your life. Sumo cooks with what he calls a more "southern" flavor. His dishes are always a little sweeter and his fried rice is by far the best I have had yet at a hibachi restaurant. James is the man for a fun family night out. He will serenade you with any top 40 song as he cooks and he also puts on a great show for the kids. People seem to really enjoy him as he is very interactive with the customers. He also will get a little crazy with the adult groups if they are looking to have some saki bombs with dinner. Anytime I am there his tables are always smiling and laughing! MANAGEMENT: One of the owners of the restaurant is Eason. He is usually there no matter the time of day with his wife Ling. They take great pride in the restaurant and the experience that their customers have. You will not go wrong if you decide on this place for your Friday or Saturday night out on the town. Once you try them you will find yourself going back over and over. A final thought. I did take the time to read through the reviews that have been posted on here for Osaka. Unfortunately, there have been a couple of 1 and 2 star reviews. All I can say to that is you can't be perfect all the time. Over the year or so that Osaka has been open I have had the opportunity to speak with Eason on a few occasions. From those conversations I know that any feedback he is given about something that wasn't quite right with the meal or the service is immediately addressed. Even a 5-star restaurant has its nights where things don't click. I can say that this is not the norm for Osaka though. I have never had any complaints and my family frequents the restaurant on a weekly basis.

Pay no attention to the nit pickers, this place is really good for what it costs. My wife and I had a bottle of hot sake, 1 drink each with our dinner, 2 appetizers, 2 nice entrees and an side order of sea scallops and it cost $80. Our server was very friendly and entertaining and gave us plenty of attention. We were there on a Friday night around 6PM so it was fairly busy and everything stayed on par. This is not a life changing experience when it comes to Japanese restaurants but it is a good place.

This restaurant was suggested to me by my sister in law so I thought I would give it a try. The hostess and the waitress were very nice and attentive to my needs. I ordered the Bento box dinner and it was OK. The food was lukewarm and did not taste too great. The Yaki Mandu and Shrimp Tempura was great but everything else was so so. I'm willing to give it another try but I will get something else or just have the sushi.

We ate here two nights in a row & considering lunch today... Service is over-the-top good, and the food is great! Sushi was creative (ordered the "surprise me" roll), shabu shabu was fun to eat as well. Wednesday night sushi is 1/2 off (at time of posting). We will definately be back.

Really good hibachi. Some of the cooks are more into the show than the rest but the food is really good. Will have to come back for the Shabu-Shabu.

Perhaps one of the worst Asian dining experience ever! When we arrived at the front counter the hostess spoke Chinese to us. This is a Japanese rest? Okay that wasn't the bad part. We decided to Shabu and the stove was filled with grim, stale food from previous diners and filth. It was really disgusting to eat with that amount of bacteria. Anyway when the food arrived, most of it was still frozen and aged. We both got sick the following day and thought about contacting Health department but decided not to for the sake of troublesome.

I realize this place looks a little dumpy outside, but it honestly has some of the best sushi I've eaten in the area. If you still aren't sure, come on Monday or Wednesday for half off sushi and see what you think. Super fresh and very delicious. I have not eaten on the hibachi side, but I HIGHLY recommend for the sushi.

I really really did not want to rate this place because I understand the sweat and tears that go into making a business. And it's a very personal thing for someone to see a negative review about their business but I just have to put my story out there. First of all I have been to this location 4 times (shabu side) Grand opening to regular business hours. I have legitamitely given this place a chance. The good: Service seems good. When it was busy they didn't seem to want to come to our table as much but, eh. Service was fine. The not so okay: (I did not try to hibachi so I can not review on the Hibachi. This is on all their other food) Food. First of all, I don't even like Hibachi that much. I get it the whole jist of Hibachi, but to me it's a restaurant copping out making good food by filling you up with vegetables, rice and little bit of meat then charging you 15-20$ a head. Sushi- I've tried the sushi here .... 3 times? 3/4 times I came here. It was sub par. If you read my other reviews I frequent sushi restaurants not out of snootiness but because I can't always eat meat very much. Fish is a very important staple in my life and when the fish I receive is wrong in coloring, or even when my sushi roll unravels itself even before it reaches my table, I'm going to have a frown on my face. Also tried the philly roll for kicks, I thing 3/4 of the roll was the cream cheese. Thank you if I wanted to eat a Cream cheese roll, I would grabbed a chunk of cream cheese from Meijer and just put it on some nori and made it at home. Ramen- I was super excited to see that Osaka would have Ramen in their menu when they first opened. Unfortunately I was unable to order it the first two times I went because they were "out of stock". After patiently waiting I went back in my 4th visit and asked if the Ramen was available. Yes! It was. I was delighted to hear that and in my mind I was thinking "No longer will I have to travel 2-3 hours for some Ramen. I can just have it in GR!" Let me tell you I didn't have this ... super high expectation. On a scale of 1-10 I would've been content with 5~6. I rather would have ate Ichiban ramen and I should have it would've saved me alot of heartbreak because I already know what to expect of it. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen to find water reeking of pork, no depth, no oil to the broth. The pork itself, was inedible. The noodles were very complex. It seemed like it was half cooked but also at the same time tasted like the pork water. The vegetables? Oh I would've been content if I could have eaten some vegetables. Some big spinach were thrown in on top like it was a garnish. I know that Ramen is a pork based broth. I didn't complain. What was I supposed to do? I paid for my meal because I ordered it, it was my mistake for even thinking Osaka would put "Ramen" on their menu because they COULD make it. Now I realize what happened. Osaka put Ramen on their menu because it is a idealized "Japanese" dish. Even if they weren't ready or prepared to make it, because they are a "Japanese" restaurant. I probably won't return here again. I didn't even talk about the shabu shabu because that itself is another 3 paragraphs. You might enjoy it if you enjoy Hibachi(Teppanyaki), cheap sushi that's cheap for a reason. But please, do not order that Ramen. Just don't.
