Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place is so great. You feel at home. The shots are three in one they are so big. The locals are the greatest part about it.

Burritos are generally good, beer is always extra cold. I gave this place 2 star because I repeatedly have bad experiences with some waitresses. They can be very unkind and rude. No way to treat a local.
(2)April B.
The place isn't as much fun as it was before the smoking ban (and I don't smoke). But I still love to stop by for their hard shell tacos, yum!
(3)Gary L.
I guess I am not getting all the rudeness comments. Have been there 3 times this summer, have had a different waitress each time and all have been very friendly and accommodating. I have tried wet burritos on the other side of the state for years looking for a comparable one. Have never found one. The last time I was here was over 20 years ago and the "wet ones" are still fantastic. Took the whole family including grandkids this summer and they all enjoyed the burritos, enchiladas, and tacos, no complaints. The drinks were strong and the beer cold and very reasonable. The next time I am in the area camping, a trip to the Tip will be on the agenda. Mention this place at work and everyone seems to know about it. And as for a crappy place, it has been packed everytime we have gone there. Go figure.

Staff couldn't be any nicer. Waitresses great. Megan is awesome, Jenn is great and bartender Mike is 1st rate. . Mexican food is Mexican food. Great place to Tip a Few! Very friendly local joint that keeps me coming back. This New Jersey guy says to the poor review - Forget get about it! Go enjoy!
(4)Chris I.
I love the food and drinks. However only three stars for me. No need for rude wait staff, dirty tables and menu's.

OK what is it. The best dive bar you can go to in Grand Haven. Good Mexican food, but even better margaritas. You better have a designated driver if you go here. Just really a great place to hang out with the locals. OK I might be biased in my review the last time I went there was a woman flashing people lol. Yes, it not a place for everyone, but it's my kind of place. So why just 3 stars? It's a dive bar. Isn't that just a nice way to say crappie place?
(3)Michelle R.
Tip is the perfect hole in the walk that we always look for!!!!! The staff is great and the drinks are cheap. Don't plan on driving after two drinks because they are strong and will sneak up on you :) My go to drink is a Jose Margarita and my husband's is New Holland whiskey on the rocks. We usually go there for the drink and end up getting a little food. The mexican is better than most mexican in Michigan. It loaded with cheese so how could you go wrong.
(5)Janet W.
I love going to the Tip-a-Few when I come to town. No, it's not authentic Mexican food, but it's still great! The cheese nachos are wonderful and have lots of cheese and the wet burritos are really good! I recommend it!
(4)Tim S.
Chips and cheese are some of the best we have had (short of home). Tons of cheese! Its a bar but the food is worth every drink you buy.
(5)Nick P.
If you are looking for real authentic Mexican food don't come here haha but the food is actually very good. The enchilada sauce (which is on almost everything) is amazing and makes any dish of theirs. Tip a few is a local joint with "booz-a-ritas" or margaritas with just booze that will knock your socks off they are so good. The burrito is a must and you have to get it wet. Over all it's a great local joint for good booze and good food.
(4)Diane H.
Tip has the BEST wet burritos and many other choices of mexican food in the area! Wouldn't go anywhere else! Great prices and great service. This is a place not to miss!
(5)V S.
This place is so inauthentic that calling it Mexican is kind of a joke. The meat is bland and everything is loaded with cheddar cheese. Overall it is crummy even by tex-mex standards. They have also raised the prices quite a bit the last year or so. The beers however are nice and ice cold. The Sam Adams in a frosted glass is great. This is a hang out for the local yokels but is fun once in a while. They no longer have a pool table here. The place is often crowded as well. It used to be a biker bar, but not so much anymore.
(3)Cindy W.
don't waste your $, mix drinks taste like gasoline,I've had food that taste better out of a can. The man who greets you at the door hates his job. Forget conversation at your table its noisy, unless you like hollering.
(1)Angela J.
tippin' a few back...lake Michigan style Not fancy, not real Mexican....but the beer is cold and the burritos are HUGE...and the nachos were ok. Friendly bartenders that pour a good drink and plenty of regulars to keep it interesting.
(3)Jack R.
This is hands-down the single worst Mexican restaurant on the entire continent of North America. The food is basically Wal-Mart tortillas loaded with unseasoned meat and an almost comical amount of rubbery cheddar cheese that is probably left over from Taco Night at the local prison. I would seriously rather eat frozen waste from the bottom of a Mexican outhouse than allow these burritos anywhere near my mouth again. Some on Yelp have described the atmosphere as "dive". But dive bars are usually dark and authentically decorated. As soon as you walk through the door of this place you're blinded light from the flat screens and neon Bud Light signs. It's not a dive bar, it's a sports bar decorated by someone with awful taste in everything. "The Tip"; as the locals call it, is essentially an alcoholics' bar. Apparently it offers really good deals on beer. They have to. Catering to future liver transplant candidates is the only hope they have because only people who have burnt off their taste buds with decades of whisky shots, Pall-Malls and Pabst Blue Ribbon can possibly stomach this epically disgusting food.

STAY AWAY!! Horrible service. Trashy. Dumpy. Rude bartender. Stay away. There are much better places in Grand Haven to patronize. I wish I could give it 0 stars.
(1)Valerie B.
Just normal bar food. If u pay full price you paid way to much. The water is the best flavor u will get here. yes burritos where big but no flavor but hot out of the microwave.
(1)Esther G.
Good food and service, divey-style Mexican food and cheap beer bar. Not a ton of room for seating, but lots of tvs for catching a game if you can get a seat.
(4)John E.
Having been a local in the past I still like this place, The Chips and Cheese have about 1 or 2 pound of cheese. The Wet Burrito is what they are known for, anywhere outside West Michigan this is a Burrito Enchilada Style. Try ordering a Wet Burrito out west and they look at you like your nuts and then ask you if they are supposed to put water on the tortilla - true story- Authentic - not even close - ground beef and taco seasoning you buy in a packet. But the place hits the spots and I go every year to see who the drunks at the bar are.
(3)Samantha S.
This is a great dive bar with tasty Mexican food. The waitress was insane and did an awesome job serving every table in the bar.
(4)Marie B.
When you need a late night drink and Mexican food in a divey setting...Tip a Few to the rescue!
(3)Melanie B.
Great place for a beer! Lots of locals but those are the best places, right? The food, not so good. At our table of 4 we tried: potato jackets (which I learned are potato skins covered with cheese, meat and sour cream), tacos, chicken strips, chicken chili (ew!), enchiladas, and beer. The beer was the highlight. Potato Jackets were SUPER soggy, Chix Chili was just nasty and my husband said the Chix Strips were "OK"---but seriously, How can you mess up frozen chicken strips? I would go back here and drink a few brews with the locals but I started the boozin'

I will rate this place a 3.....only because I can appreciate places that haven't changed much over time.....when most other places in the area have kept up to catering to tourists instead of the locals. I've lived in the area for 13 years....i don't go to Tip often....guess because the food is greasy, bar food. And the mexican is not my type of mexican.....i like real food....not gordon food service food. After a few drinks, the food gets better:) Come here for some local action, for decent service and a place to grab a beer away from the tourists. Don't come here with a first date, if you want a nice meal, or if you are a stuffy snob:)....enjoy.
(3)Ashley M.
Best Mexican food?? Really?? Self proclaimed best Mexican would be more like it. How could I not get mexican at a place that said it was the best?! I got the tacos, they were only a couple notches above taco bell quality but with a lot more cheese for a lot more of my money. The chicken strips were alright , not the best but pretty good. The homemade ranch however was phenomenal. As a bar, they made very strong drinks at a very low price. The drinks were the best part of my lunch!

This place is a local watering hole. It looks exactly the same as it did 20 years ago. I used to prank phone call this place when I was a kid and had the bartenders wanting to kick my butt. Now I love going here when ever I'm home. It's known for it's wet burrito. It clams its the, "World Famous Wet Burrito." Why can't they just say, "Grand Haven's Finest?" I highly doubt its the world's famous unless you never left GH. The inner workings for this tasty loaded burrito is a pound of seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato wrapped in a extra large burrito shell with red sauce on top and a pound of cheese. Yes a pound of cheese. This pace puts a pound of cheese on everything. They even have cheese balls! I guess in the midwest cheese makes everything taste better? I would suggest to have a few beers or drinks before and during while concurring this burrito. Oh yeah, you can spot the locals because they set at the bar and drink Busch and Natural light beer. The fudgies are the ones that actual wear the Tip-A-Few Tavern's very own T-shirt's to the establishment.

What a waste of my money!!!! All the dishes look the same with a sea of cheese on top of the them. The atmosphere ok and the beer selection ok.
(1)Tommy P.
Clearly people have no idea what good mexican food is, and trust me, this isn't it. The wet burritos were disgusting. I'm sorry, but if you have to cover it in sauce at least make sure the sauce tastes good. And please learn how to cook your beans all the way through, there shouldn't be a crunchy surprise. I thought I had snagged a peanut in my burrito, only to be disappointed once I realized it was an uncooked bean. The peanut would have been a welcome surprised..... if you must have a burrito go to Butches which is tolerable.

It's always interesting to read reviews on places. The bottom line is it IS a local dive - where everyone is welcome, even families. It definitely is NOT a place for fine dining. It is NOT a place for "authentic" Mexican food. It certainly ISN'T smoky anymore (Michigan is finally a non-smoking state). However, if you're looking for a fun place to have a few drinks, kick back and relax, and enjoy a great wet burrito or enchiladas, by all means visit the Tip. The people are friendly and the always understaffed waitresses are great.

My husband and son-in-law to be, had a great time relaxing here well our son rode bike at the bike park.
(5)Michael R.
Good Stuff! ...coming from someone who has seen many wet burritos come and go... as this one the "Tip" makes the wet one is all covered with cheese stays with you for a while on your palate, and warms your belly from all the TLC that they have continued to offer through out the years! The Tip A Few Lives!
(5)Mary B.
Back in the day it was a true dive bar and I miss the way it was (Please take a moment of silence for the way they were..... ) They have since attempted to clean up, at least in appearance. But you can still get the strong ass cheap dive bar drink here. Among the other crowded bars in this summer town it is a good one to escape to, for sure. And you can get a sloppy wet burrito that is surprisingly good!
(4)Fran M.
Great little traven with friendly service and good "Bar" Mexican and American food! If you order Mexican be ready for melted pile high cheese. It's anything but healthy, slightly pricey but completely worth it!!
(5)Josh M.
I stop in every time I'm back in town, and they still usually remember my drink. Good drinks, good prices, good burritos. Best bar in town.
(5)K M.
The "Tip" definitely more "tavern" than "restaurant". My local relations refer to this as a "Townie Bar". That's probably an offensive term to some, but oh well. We stumbled over here after closing down the Kirby on a Thursday night in June. I guess it was a little early in the summer yet, and not yet the weekend, but the Kirby was dead that night. However the Tip was packed - with locals, not the summer tourists who flock to town all summer. And smoky. And complete with what I assume were the local pool sharks. Hookups were definitely happening. And I got hit on....weird 'cause look every bit of my over-30, married, mother-of-two-ness, and I don't think I've been hit on in a bar since my mid-20s! It's just that kind of place. And ditto on the burritos - we've actually ordered them as takeout before, and although we didn't have any this time, they are legendary.
(3)Roger J.
Foods real solid. Nothing life changing but up to par for the establishment. Liquor pours are real stiff and all the staff is very pleasant. Lots of TVs with some sort of professional sports on. Classic rock rocking over the pa. Just real solid. Again. Not fancy. Just a clean solid bar where people come for good drinks, decent food and laughs.
(4)Jason L.
Best Tex-Mex in GH. Stiff drinks too. One of my 'must haves' when I'm back home in GH visitin.
(5)Amy S.
Well asking for ID at 5:00 is a little different. Got sat a dirty table. No one checked on us for close to 10 minutes. Menus were dirty too. Won't be back. You shouldn't go.
