OK is right. The breadsticks are yummy indeed, but forgettable. The poor service out weighs it all. Our waitress told us all about the pizza buffet and when we asked, "Do we just get up?" She told is it was closed. Seriously?!? Why try and sell us on it? Also, it creeps me out when servers take your cup in the back to refill it--imagine my momentary panic when ours grabbed a cup from our table and the one behind it. I'm all about avoiding cross-contamination. Nasty! Our family ate at Spanky's the night before and loved it; I think the service really ruined it for us. The food was OK. The portions are small and they are stingy with the napkins--sheesh! My BFF says it should be called "Skimpy's". She's a funny gal.

EVERYONE talks about this place. I was impressed with the breadsticks and the pizza. Not the best I'd had in the area but still up there. The environment was Your average hometown pizza shop with plenty of seating, a nice change from some other shops around. I only went a couple times but had a decent experience at each one. Try it out.

We had an interesting and enjoyable experience at Spanky's. 12 of us were in town for camping/hanging out/attending the National Baby Food Festival in Fremont. The main draw for us is the Adult Baby Food Eating Contest. The prize? 12 months worth of pizza from the local sponsor which turns out is Spanky's. Second place? 6 months of free pizza. So needless to say we finish the competition and find out that we have actually placed second. So we're excited to get free pizza but the reality is that we're all from at least 4 hours away so there is no way we're getting these pizzas. We decided to stop in with our huge group and try it out. After talking to the waitress, we found out that the manager was willing to give us all 6 free pizzas. We were super excited. We ordered some pitchers of pop, had the 6 pizzas, and a couple orders of bread sticks. The bread sticks were fantastic. The pizza was pretty average but I'm not entirely sure if we just received a bunch of buffet pizzas and they have a better/more elaborate pizza available. The server was really friendly and made our experience a memorable one.

I would like to point out that Spanky's is one of the cleanest restaurants I have been in! Try the breadsticks! They have a crispy Parmesan topping. Breadsticks are big but you are gonna want 2! The Hawaiian pizza had generous toppings. Pineapple was cooked but not hot. Lots of ham. BBQ chicken pizza was a bit on the spicy side. But delicious. Service was great!

I consider myself a pizza connoisseur from wayyyyy back...I love a good pie! Also, I'm told I've got a pretty good hand for making pizza. Without a doubt, Spanky's pizza ranks in my top five favorites, NATIONWIDE! What makes Spanky's restaurant better than your typical pizza joint, or some other type of restaurant which serves pizza, is that EVERYTHING I've had from there is delicious...pizza, hot sandwiches (a.k.a. grinders), pasta, and especially their "famous" breadsticks, which are undoubtedly the best I've EVER had. If you like parmesan cheese, and if you get a chance to try the the breadsticks, order them with extra cheese. It is not your typical melty/gooey cheese; the best way I know to describe the cheese (the 'extra' or the stuff that flakes off the breadsticks) is to say that it's thin, slightly crunchy (sort of wafer-like), lightly browned and mildly salty. Or, in a word, DELICIOUS. When we go there, we almost always order the 'family special', a combo which consists of a 16-inch, two-topping pizza, an order of 8 large breadsticks (each is approx.12 inches long) and a 2-liter bottle of pop. They also offer a small buffet of about 8 different pizzas, breadsticks, sauce, and a rather limited salad bar, but I have never tried it. You can even buy take-and-bake pizzas at half the price of those baked in store (the crust is slightly different, not quite as good as those baked in store, but decent). One other thing which warrants being mentioned is their sauce, the sauce used in making the pizza, served with the breadsticks, and on some if the sandwiches. As a rule, I don't like a lot of sauce on my pizza, but Spanky's sauce is SO GOOD (slightly sweet with a bit of visible parmesan cheese) that I often dip my pizza in the sauce which comes with the breadsticks. Finally, in addition to the great taste of the food, Spanky's offers a good variety (something which will appeal to most anyone), decent portion sizes, reasonable prices and friendly, efficient staff. Bottom line, I would recommend Spanky's to anyone!

I was in town for business and told that I HAD to visit Spanky's Pizza Shop & Restaurant. Who can resist such a glowing review? I met my client there on a cold, snowy February night and the comfort food was a welcome meal. We shared a full order of breadsticks (there were three of us, and it was more than enough). The reviews are right: definitely get the breadsticks. I also ordered a taco pizza, which isn't something I usually get. There was just something about it "calling my name." It was quite tasty. It came with a side of Pace picante sauce, which I can take or leave, but it was good on its own. The service was very friendly and continually refilled our drinks. My client got food to go, and that was very quick (and even came with additional breadsticks). I would definitely return if I'm ever back in the area.

When it's 8:00 p.m. in Fremont and pizza is wanted, there aren't many choices. This is the place I chose because it was one that seemed to be favored by locals. The crowded parking lot seemed to augur a tasty pie. What I got instead was a veggie pizza with a dry crust, gloppy cheese and nondescript toppings. Perhaps some of their other dishes are better but I'm inclined not to try again. Contrary to Jacqueline Susann, sometimes once is enough.

Spanky's is all about the breadsticks!!! They've got some solid specialty pizzas, and the plain old pepperoni is a winner - but if you go to Spanky's you've got to get the breadsticks!! Good service and very decent prices. If you're in the area be sure to stop by. I grew up in the area and currently live in San Francisco, California and I still haven't found breadsticks as good anywhere as they are at Spanky's.
