Had such high hopes for this Smokehaus ~ complete disappointment.... Ribs were flavorless, brisket was as dry as shoe leather, chicken was dry and NEEDED bbq sauce. The waitress said how good the mac n cheese was ~ kraft mac n cheese is better?! Corn bread (or Johnny cake) was horrible and had a bad after taste..... epic fail!! On a positive note the fish & chips special was good (what's wrong with this though? Good fish & chips at a bbq smokehaus).... too bad it wasnt the pork that was delicious? Price was a little high for the amount of food you got but not outragious. No return visits for us :(

When I heard a smokehouse opened up near me I knew I had to go. I grew up in the south so a good slow smoked brisket is something that excites me (LOL.) My husband and I went for lunch and we both had the 3 meat platter. It was rather pricey for the amount of meat you get. So that part was disappointing. However, their mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, brisket, chicken wings and Andouille sausage were pretty tasty. The brisket wasn't the best I had, but they did have some amazing house sauces that really were yum and brought out the smoked flavor of the meat. Oh and lets not forget the sweet corn bread aka Johnny Cake. It was delish and I was sad when I reached the end of the basket! I've heard people raving about this place and the nightlife there. Maybe I'll go ahead and check out some jazz bands. This used to be an Irish pub, you can feel a little bit of that inside as it seems Slo Bones is still remodeling.

We visited right after opening on Sunday. It was clean and pleasant except for the initial smell of chlorine bleach the permeated the restaurant, however I believe that it was only from the dishwashers. We came in with a party of 6, so their was enough to try all of the meat items along with an order Nachos. The service was good, but it just didn't make up for the average food. While flavorful most of the meat was dry and the nachos being baked were also different. I found them crisp and pleasant, buy half felt that they were without flavor.

I visited Slo' Bones with the Great Lakes/Bay Supper Club (GLBSC), a group of people in the Great Lakes/Bay area that visit a new locally-owned restaurant each month. Slo' Bones was our randomly chosen establishment for the month of April. The ambiance is perfect and definitely gives the feel of a good ol' southern BBQ joint. I've seen many different restaurants come and go at this location and I couldn't stop marveling at what a great job the new owners did and revamping the place and really embracing their theme. There was a group of about 20 of us and we went on their busiest night of the week, Wing Wednesday. Slo' Bones had just won the King of the Wings award the month before and I completely understand why. I ordered the wings and they were huge and delicious. Smokey and moist served with a dry rub and you have your choice of homemade sauces available on the table (Flamin' and Texas were my favorite). I also ordered an appetizer of their Mac 'n' Cheese Medallions which were made fresh and were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The only problem with them is that there weren't enough. I topped it all off with a made-to-order peach cobbler that was cutely served in a coffee mug. It seemed that everyone was more than happy with their food. It all looked delicious and what I was able to pick off my friends' plates tasted delicious too. The one overall complaint seemed to be with the service. I have to agree, but I don't think it was because our server was inept. For such a large group that didn't come in together, she did a fairly good job keeping up with us. It was a little slow getting drinks sometimes and we were all ready to order long before we were able to, but she had a great attitude throughout the night even juggling us among her various other smaller tables. I'll definitely go back to try out the rest of the menu and to see if I can catch some of the blues acts that regularly grace their stage. I'm honestly not a huge BBQ fan, but this place may have converted me and the craft beers on tap are just icing on the cake!

This place was great, from service to food. Price and quality of food is hard to beat. Excellent beer selection, too. I had the Burnt Ends, and they were mouth watering good. Friends had the baked beans and raved about how great they were. So glad we stopped in!!

I love ribs. These aren't the best I have had, ( meat BBQ in old town lansing) but they are good and the sauce is excellent! I did the 3 meat platter and split it with my lovely wife. We are both stuffed and happy. They have a band so we are going to stick around and maybe have some drinks and live music! This place will be on my frankenmuth "to do list" in the future.

Kind of really a 3.5 but being kind and rounding up because these reviews are ridiculously intolerable to this place for some reason. I came in with my girlfriend and her parents (HI!) at an "off" hour -- 3:30ish -- and they actually had a decent number of customers. I wound up getting their soup de jour, which was beer cheese soup with chicken, and the chicken sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised by the soup... I was irrationally scared it would possibly kill me just because the reviews for Slo Bones on this site are so awful, but I liked it and it was as advertised: beery, cheesy, and chicken...y. It was maybe a little salty, but soup in general is usually pretty salty, especially beer cheese soup. Slo Bones also gives you free cornbread bites for the table. I had four of them, but they're really not all that good... they seemed really dry, and excessively sweet. Edible, but they're about worth the price they cost. The chicken sandwich was good, but hard to eat because everything kept sliding around when I tried to take a bite... what I did to prevent this was basically just inhale the sandwich as quickly as possible. What disappointed me about it was the size... considering Bad Brad's BBQ is my benchmark for BBQ (at least in Michigan), I compare every place to that, and this place doesn't compare. $9.50 for a chicken sandwich and a few fries? I can get a sandwich almost twice the size for the same price at Brad's! Still, I liked the sandwich, especially with their spicy BBQ sauce on it. The pricing at Slo Bones just needs some adjusting... especially their "extras" you can add to your order. Lettuce, bleu cheese, andouille sausage, and bacon all cost the same to add -- 75 cents. Mostly any place I've been to in the past several years will generally have a free (or 'peasant') topping list, and then a "premium" one for stuff. Just a note to the owners if they ever happen to get to my review past all of the 1 and 2 star reviews. Slo Bones is good, but expensive for the amount of food they give -- even though it was off the lunch menu, which usually slashes prices a little bit. I didn't pay for my meal (THANKS TODD!), but I'd come here again and pay for myself without much issue. Don't get me wrong, I definitely didn't leave hungry, but for the eighty-fourth time, I do think either the pricing needs to be lowered or portions beefed up a bit. At the same time, this is a pretty good example of a place that can't be judged based just on its Yelp review.

Nachos were burned but pulled pork on them was really flavorful. The side salad we ordered was the smallest side salad I have ever seen any restaurant, served on a teacup saucer size.

Found this jem on a tip from a bartender at a bar downtown. From the outside, this place doesn't look like much. But once you step inside and smell that sweet smell of smoked meat, you know that you have stepped foot into a class act barbecue joint. We started out with salads and cornbread. The cornbread was moist and sweet. I had the brisket and ribs as my main course and was not disappointed. The meat was perfectly smoked. For the sides I had the Mac and cheese and the garlic mashed. The Mac and cheese was perfect, and the garlic mashed were great too!

Great food. Perfect portion sizes. Very nice staff - recommend the wings and brisket. Definitely will return.

I've been here twice now and have had two very different experiences. I'm glad I waited to write a review until after the second visit. On my first visit, which was shortly after their grand opening and dead between typical lunch and dinner times, everything was dried out. Dry pulled pork, crazy dry brisket. The Mac n Cheese was mushy and bland. The cornbread was jiffy mix that had sat around getting cold and dry. The service was craptastic, too. It was unlikely that I would return, but several colleagues from the area said that its been great every time they've gone and to give it another try. I went today and it was a whole new ride. My server was diligent and friendly. The pulled pork was excellent, the brisket was outstanding, the Mac n Cheese was flavorful and perfect. The smoked beans were spicy and nice. The cornbread was decent, but otherwise unremarkable, though. And the croutons for the salad were tasty and clearly house made, but were too moist. Their sauces are quite good, too. My server brought me the Slo Burn since I said I liked hot stuff (it's only served by request). When mixed with the Slo Sauce, it's a fantastic blend. My only gripe on the sauces are that they have lots of really coarse pepper in them and it makes for a rough mouth feel and they get stuck in your teeth. As for atmosphere, it's a little on the bland side and minus the colorfully lit logo on the small stage it could easily pass for average small town rural diner. They need to really embrace the BBQ & Blues theme and add some photos of Blues legends, some guitars, dobros, horns, and drums on the walls. Add in some old butcher ads and go. It's just too sterile as it sits. But, ambiance aside, I'd definitely return, just perhaps not off normal dining hours.

Cleanliness...5 Food...1 Service...3 Price...2 Atmosphere...4 BBQ is my passion so when I found out Slobones was coming to the Muth I was looking forward to it...Not good...ALL the food is dry and way over cooked...We have visited twice to make sure it wasn't just "that night" but I think it got worst...All our food was cold...Wine selection is no good...The sauces are good...They did a great job reworking the place but the food NEEDS to improve.

Ribs were tender meaty and excellent. Very good service and nice meal. Had just a taste of the cornbread (not low carb, lol) and had to have them take it away because it was good enough would've eaten it all!
(4)Kasey W.
Fantastic service and food. Had the smoked wings which were huge and delicious. Also the burnt ends which melt in your mouth. The rub on all the meats is delicious and the homemade sauces are awesome. The bartender was our waiter and he was full of personality and guided us through the menu with great suggestions. Go here.. You won't be disappointed. Way better then the plain ol fried chicken!!!!

My wife and I love visiting Frankenmuth, but sometimes we're just not in the mood for a family-style chicken dinner. If that's true for you too, Slo' Bones BBQ Smokehaus is a great alternative to try. The staff there is very friendly and attentive. After asking about their beer selection, I was impressed by the variety of micro-brews they had on-tap, many of them Michigan-made. It's nice to see them supporting other local businesses. Since we'd had never been there, we ordered a variety of things to try. We started with the Smoked Wings. they give you big, whole wings, not those puny half-wings some places sell. They were smoky and delicious by themselves, but even better with one of their five delicious BBQ sauces. Their hottest one, which I re-named "Slo' Burn" sauce, was great - but is definitely NOT for the timid! Next we had a Big Slo' Combo of St. Louis ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. I tried everything bare first, and each one was great on its own. The ribs were succulent and fall-off-the-bone tender. The pulled pork was moist and flavorful. But my favorite was the brisket - great smoke ring, deep, rich flavor, and pull-apart tender. Not all BBQ places even make brisket, and this is some of the best I've ever tried. We took a bunch of leftovers home to our son (since they don't skimp on portions) and he absolutely loved it! He can't wait for us to take him there, and we can't wait to return! I really want to try the burnt ends - or the pulled pork nachos, which I hear are amazing. I hope others spread the word and help make this restaurant a big success. FOLLOW UP: Went back to Slo' Bones a week later, during Frankenmuth's SnoFest. Despite crowds swarming everywhere in town, we still got right in and were enjoying some Burnt Ends and Pork Nachos within 15 minutes of sitting down. The Burnt Ends are AMAZING! (I'm hoping they'll add Burnt Ends Nachos to the menu!) We'll be back!

Update. Not sure if this is an off day or the result of bad business choices. Menu prices up $1-$3 an item. One would expect equal or better quality. Sadly this isn't the case. The appetizer, ribeye bourbon tips, was prepared in a different way. It was made using a rub too spicy for the dish. Upon questioning, it was the cook, Eric, who takes liberties with the Chef's recipes. The corn bread was more like jiffy mix with too many eggs added causing a cake substance not suitable for a smokehouse. The onion rings and garlic redskin mashed were of normal quality. The side salad was reduced in size by quite a bit. Now served on half empty small desert plate. The once full ear of corn on the cob has been reduced to half and tasted precooked. The main event was to be the full slab of St Louis style ribs. We couldn't eat nearly half of the sections. Some 2-3 bone rib sections weren't stripped of the silverskin. Congealed fat suggested some sections weren't properly smoked or heated for service. While I understand the smoking process, I don't expect steaming ribs. What I do expect is ribs properly smoked. These were not. Some sections were fall off the bone tender while others were too tough to eat. Two people with an appetizer, ribs and two soft drinks, $64.51. Sad to say but if the lesser quality continues with higher prices, this restaurant will be closing before long. Server was excellent and even offered to discount our check. We declined the offer but will reevaluate our dining choices.

Sub par bbq for sure. I ordered the double combo with chicken and brisket and both were dry all the way. I've had some excellent bbq throughout the years and this was not it.

Surprising. Sorry, but Michigan is not known for its BBQ. After eating here, it should be. Looking for something other than a "famous chicken dinner" then this is the place. The BBQ nachos were really good. Everything piled on and then baked. Yummy. The Angry Orchard was even served with a twist. The glass was rimmed with cinnamon sugar. Can't beat that! Had the three meat combo with mac n cheese and cornbread. The brisket is amazing. It literally falls apart with a fork. The St. Louis ribs had a very sweet dry rub, not my favorite but still tasty. The chicken was very, very, very dry. Hard to eat dry. The cornbread was delicious The service was good, no complaints. The price was reasonable. So, looking for a change of pace, good food, good atmosphere, then this is your place. I will definitely be back.

I had really high hopes for this place and I was excited to try it out. Sad to say it was way below expectations. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the brisket and ribs were tender, but they were extremely dry. The coleslaw was soggy and served warm and the macaroni and cheese almost had no flavor. My fiancés sweet potato fries were burnt as well. Not my favorite and I probably won't return. I would rather travel to slows BBQ in Detroit.

Here on a Wednesday wing night. The dry rub on the wings is very good and doesn't need a sauce, though they have several to choose from. The atmosphere is good and the patrons are friendly. I would recommend to friends.

We tried Slo bones for the first time for a late lunch, early dinner. Our waitress, Abriana, was very nice and our food came out fast. We had pulled pork sammy and brisket, sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese. The sweet potato fries were my fave! I liked both the meats, the brisket was super tender, but the pork was slightly dry, but the sauces on the table fixed that! I love, loved, that the pulled park Sammy had cheese and grilled onions on it! That really made it stand out compared to other BBQ places. The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, it was average.

The food was great and the service. Only suggestion would be maybe get a shrimp entrée on the menu.

This is a great idea in a cool town, however lots of work needs to be done. We were excited to try it out! 1. The food that we did try was very good. 2. The decor is cool, casual and the place looked really clean. 3. The live entertainment was just the right amount of sound and presence, not too loud but adding a lot to the atmosphere. 4 The service was possibly the worst I've experienced. Our waitress was so bad. The food came out in 30 to 40 minute intervals. Seriously one entree or cup of soup at a time spaced far enough apart that one entree was finished before the soup was brought out which was finished before the next entree. It was surreal, she didnt apologize but did take all but one entree off of the bills, not a good omen for a fledgling resturant. The icing on the cake came when she snuggled up to my daughter's boyfriend and said "You know I used to waitress down Detroit, so I'm just used to so much more nakedness". I am NOT kidding. Yes, most of us are from "down Detroit", however the level of nakedness in a family resturant should not be of concern, how insulting. We were in the bar area but I expect this to be of no consequence. We had to flag someone down to take drink orders, flag someone down to get our checks, flag someone down to pay the checks. It was literally exhausting. All of this before 9:00 PM so it wasn't like we were in the busiest time of the night. Not to mention that there was a festival going on and the place was busy but not crazy busy. In other words it was full but no wait. I seriously wish the new owners luck here but my goodness train and hire the staff that will be able to carry off the level expectation that the rest of the establishment sets.

My husband and I were so excited to try out this new bbq place. We've tried BBQ joints in several states here in the U.S. Our overall experience was just stinky :( First, we walked in and realized it was a soft opening so we tried to keep an open mind with small issues that might arise seeing how the restaurant was still working out it's kinks. The first thing we thought odd was that we didn't smell any bbq. In any other restaurant we've been too you can smell it outside and as soon as you walk in. We would later find out the bbq wasn't fresh which makes sense why there wasn't a great aroma. We were seated and within a few minutes received our drinks. When we ordered, we were asked if we wanted our salads to come out before the entree. We said we did. There were 3 total - mine and two of my children's. We waited, and waited and our entrees made their appearance - no sides (salads). We had to ask to get our salad after our entree had come. Still feeling forgiving....we dug into our food. The food: My husband ordered a 2 meat platter. Chicken wings and pulled pork with a side of onion rings. The pulled pork looked very dry and after he tasted it, it indeed was very dry and chewy. It seemed microwaved. The onion rings desperately needed salt. The chicken however was very good. He asked the waitress if he could switch his pork out for brisket and she said yes. Within 10 minutes the brisket came out and was stone cold in the middle - again possibly microwaved or reheated on a pan? Def. not fresh bbq. He kept trying to get the waitresses attention as did I to see if they could heat up his brisket but I think by this point we were just a hassle to her and were ignored till our bill came. On to my food - I got brisket and a side of salad. Both were very good and are what is giving this the 2 stars it has. 2 of my boys ordered macaroni and cheese which again didn't taste like it had been seasoned but they ate it. My last little guy had a grilled cheese sandwich which was burnt on one side and mac and cheese on the side. Like I mentioned, I thought the brisket was very tasty and am hoping this was just a bad day. I heard both waitresses telling people that the kitchen was confused and was constantly apologizing for wrong/bad food. So...here's to hoping again that it was just a bad day. I would like to give them another try just in case but it may be hard convincing my hubby to go back.

Went to Slo Bones during the 'soft opening' with family and friends. All the meats we tried (ribs, chicken, brisket and pulled pork) were served naked and were tender and REALLY good. They have a choice of sauces on the table, similar to Famous Dave's. The Slo Sauce was my favorite--it's a bit on a the sweet side. It reminded me of Sweet Baby Ray's. All entrees are served with a very nice side salad, 2 sides, and some very yummy mini cornbread muffins. The sides fell short: baked beans were way too spicy, the coleslaw was too heavy on the black pepper and some other strange flavor--celery seed maybe? The garlic mashed potatoes tasted good, but the the consistency was gluey. French fries were okay. Service was excellent. I'm thrilled Frankenmuth has good bbq, and I'll definitely be back.
(4)Diane V.
OMG!!! Husband and I each ordered ribeye and we agreed that is one of the best steak dinners we have ever had. The garlic mashed and vegetable were both exceptional also. Not sure how the bbq is but we will be back again for the awesome ribeye!

Took the family to the "soft opening" when they opened their doors and was extremely disappointed. We waited 65 minutes for our appetizers, even after subtle and not-so-subtle hints to our waitress and the on-duty manager. Appetizer was chicken nachos, not exactly difficult. We watched tables that were seated after us eat and pay their tabs before we even received our dinners. Brisket, when I finally got it, was dry and cold...to their credit, the manager eventually brought a second plate of fresh brisket after the waitress noticed that I only took one bite of the original brisket...second plate was tender and juicy. My wife's grilled chicken sandwich was horrible...bun was drenched/soggy, and chicken was burnt and cold. Politely complained to manager, got nowhere, so I said something to the owner and pit master on our way out the door. Owner and pit master were apologetic and provided us with a $25 gift card and asked us to give them a second chance. Fast forward to today. Ordered carry-out for two. Very simple order. I asked, TWICE, for spicy sauce times two. My wife brought the food home, unpacked it, and we noted that they provided ZERO sauce of any kind for my brisket (again, I specifically asked twice while placing the order via phone at 3:20 pm for TWO sides of spicy BBQ sauce). Also requested blue cheese dressing for the salad that comes with the entree I ordered...they kept the salad, but at least gave me a side of ranch! My wife and I always tip generously, rarely (if ever), leave negative reviews, and both of us wanted Slo Bones to succeed...we live in town, and some variety in Frankenmuth would be nice. Owners and pit master seem like nice, conscientious guys. However, the service is about as bad as it gets. They're zero for two with us now, and there will not be a third at-bat.

Well I have to say how excited I was to see that a barbecue restaurant was coming to Frankenmuth. So my wife and I decided to try it last night at 6:30 in the evening. We couldn't even find a parking spot the place was pretty busy we walked in got seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly. As we were waiting for a waitress to come back we noticed the abundance of flies in the bar area in and around the lights. The decor of the place is fabulous they did a great job it looks like they put a lot of money and effort into this building. I ordered the big jim SLO combo and my wife ordered the beef brisket couldn't wait till it came to the table, I love barbecue. After about ten fifteen minutes dinner came to our table and when the waitress sat it down, I took one look at it and I knew it wasn't going to be good. The beef was overcooked dry pulled pork dry garlic mashed potatoes and both plates were cold as well as the macaroni and cheese. Huge huge disappointment I've been talking about this place for 2 months, but I will say that I will try this place a couple more times to see if the quality has changed. We didn't complain to the restaurant staff because we don't look for a free meal. Most people do. I hope SLO bones has great success in Frankenmuth and the next time I go I hope there's a huge smile on my face with different results. Restaurants are the hardest business to operate. Good luck to everyone at SLO bones
