Not the absolute greatest but it's worth the drive from Saginaw, far better and cheaper than the options up here. Very generous with the appetizer portions, good service, no real complaints.

Pretty bad place to taste Indian food. There was a stone in the curry, the gulab jamun was hard, yogurt was sour. Not going back.

I seriously have few confusions of this place: 1. Having hard time differentiating their tomato soup to the channa masala cuz channa masala is funnier than the soup! 2. Having difficulty determining whether their so called tandoori chicken is microwaved

I liked this place. The dishes I tried had a great balance of heat and flavor. I started with the tomato soup, which was fragrant and had a mild spicy heat to it. It was a great way to warm up from the rain and introduction to the rest of the meal. For my main meal I had the lamb biryani dish with medium spice. It was very good and the portion was really generous. I couldn't finish it all. The lamb, spices and heat level came together exceptionally well. The lamb was not fatty or dried out but tender and cooked very consistently throughout the dish. The spices brought the flavors together and I'm ready to experiment with a higher level of heat next time.

What is not good at Grill of India? Practically nothing. I have been here several times and not a single thing I have ordered is anywhere near bad. I have been here for their lunch buffet several times and regular dine in dinner countless times. During lunch buffet hours, I would suggest asking the waiters for a fresh batch of naan. It's the best when it is first made. My friend and I would always start out with the chilly paneer as an appetizer and then choose two dishes to share. We love their chicken biryani (the lamb one is also really good). A new favorite is also the chicken cyclone, though it's more on the spicy side. The classic chicken tikka masala is delicious and I just absolutely love it with the rice and naan. The buffet definitely gives you a chance to try a variety of different dishes off their menu, and their mushroom masala is actually really good (if you like mushrooms). They offer two different rice dishes in the buffet. I did get a chance to try their goat curry too, and, it really had a taste to it that I thoroughly enjoyed, so I would say that would probably be my favorite from their buffet hours. Waiters are super friendly and always make good suggestions. I would have to say that the only downside is that this place is a little on the pricier side, though you do get a lot for one order. Appetizers range almost just as high as an entree dish, which usually, you would think it's slightly cheaper. All in all, probably one of my favorite dine in places in Flint.

I so didn't see this place coming. I've passed it a hundred times over the years while going to sagano but I'll be sure to stop in more often now that I know about this gem! We had the assorted breads to start and damn were they good, I'd have eaten more if I wasn't worried about having room for dinner. For my main course I had the shrimp vindaloo. This stuff was to die for. Just the right amount of heat and flavor. The shrimp wasn't overcooked like most place do and rice was great. The only thing that could have been better was the service. Although not bad it was just awkward. That could have been because of language barriers but still it was uncomfortable whenever the waiter came over because he tried to make up for the awkwardness by hovering. Anyway if you haven't yet you have to try this place it's great!

Good food & service. The buffet has excellent options. The lamb vindaloo was okay. it could use a little more taste. The level of spiciness was good. The rice was fresh and fluffy. The nan could've been just a little crispier.

The buffet on the weekend is perfect. The bread is delicious and the pakora is even better. Love going to the buffet and getting a bit of everything.

I love the lunch buffet but I have a new rule that I limit my visits to once a week! Love the mushroom masala and dal curry can't be beat. Easy to reach location. Great service. It is so wonderful to have all the vegetarian options!

I love the grill of india. finding ethnic food in flint seems to be a challenge and i feel like grill of india has it on lock down. i've ordered many things and never been unsatisfied. as others have said, it's more of southern indian cuisine, which suits me just fine since this means there is more fish on the menu. I love their naan bread, and all the chutneys. I've taken many people here and all have been pleased, even those who are way outside their comfort zone. I wish there was a place in grand rapids serving such well done southern indian cuisine! oh, and even though i don't rate based on service, the service here is exceptional. everyone is always very nice and accomidating even when we've come in rather late.

Very nice place. Reasonably priced and amount of food per plate was enough for us to box at least half of it and take it home with us! We were returning late from Birch Run Outlet Mall and found this Indian place one of the very few around which were open till 10 pm at night. Being an Indian myself, I can attest that the food was very good! We decided to go for medium spicy, so not so sure how exotic the 'Very Spicy' option would have been. Medium was very palatable. Having lived in the US for a few years now, I personally like only medium spicy food. A nice quiet place, good for families with kids as well as couples. Service is courteous and prompt. Plenty of parking place as well. Definitely recommend!

Boggles the mind anybody could give anything less than 5* here. Prices are CHEAP in my opinion, I'm used to CA Indian prices and this is 30% less across the board. Food is excellent. They could use some work on plating/garnishing to make the plates look more attractive. Can I get a couple sprigs of cilantro at least! Certainly not a deal breaker but this, a little decor update and they'd be in the big time. Market probably wouldn't support that but whatever. Bathroom needs some work. Bottom line is if you are in the mood for some GOOD FOOD this is the best thing going for 50 miles!

It's always a good sign when you walk into an Indian restaurant and see it packed with Indian patrons. While I'm not a big fan of spicy food, the menu is varied enough that I can always find something. My family loves this restaurant and if you go, I highly recommend the mango smoothie drink. Friendly staff that are super attentive to your needs.

I love this place not only for the great food but for the great service. I am a regular there and they alway remember me and know exactly how I like various dishes prepared. I have never had anything that I did not like here. The friendliness is wonderful and atmosphere great. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Pretty good addition to the Flint Township area! Keep in mind that I haven't been to many Indian joints around the Flint area, but this place is pretty solid. Having being accustomed to more Northern style Indian cooking, I'd say that Grill of India's cuisine errs more on the Southern style and Husband even said, "a bit of Pakistani influence." We didn't dine in, but the food portions were pretty generous during dinner hours. I was only surprised that they do not give you naan with your meal. At least, for to go orders, which I thought was odd. The waiter told me that it would cost an extra $1.50 per piece, and when I saw the size of the pieces, I immediately thought, "Are you nuts?" Kindly, I passed, but I wonder how come nobody else mentioned this? I am only guessing that if you dine in, you are given complimentary naan. I'll have to try next time. We ordered their Saag Paneer ($8.95), which is pretty much like Palak Paneer, instead that the flavor profile is less bitter due to the fact that it is a mixture of greens, not exclusive to spinach. There was far less cream and butter, which was nice, and the consistency was definitely more chunky than creamy. We liked this very much. Portion size was equivalent to a pint. We also ordered their Vegetable Biryani ($9.95), which was fragrant, light, and huge portion. The vegetable mixture consisted of broccoli, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, and other goodies and was well combined with the fluffy texture of the white basmati rice. A perfect complement with the saag paneer, this biryani provided tons of leftovers for a few days. Definitely worth getting. I'd be willing to come back again and possibly dine in for both dinner and lunch buffet, so I can see and taste what their naan is like. Prices I feel are pretty reasonable, and still cheaper than Metro Detroit counterparts. So, if you find yourself in the mood for some southern style Indian/Pakistani food while passing through the Flint area, Grill of India is a decent choice. Lots of parking, and in the same plaza as Sagano Japanese Bistro off of Corunna and Linden.

Oh so good. Did not expect it to be so good; we were driving thru Flint and took a chance. We ordered goat korma, chicken makhni and navratan korma. All were superb! Will return each time we drive through here.

I give it a 4.5 We got goat & chicken curry. We liked them both. I think it's a good sign when Indian people are always eating here, that means it's authentic! Can't wait to go back.

Stopped thru Flint on business and had a hankering for Indian - this place did NOT disappoint! Garlic Naan was TDF! Diet coke a bit flat however...

We stop here every time we drive downstate - it's delicious, reasonable, family friendly, and the staff are great. Food is outstanding. Try the 9 vegetable korma and the garlic naan.

I am not sure there are many other options for Indian cuisine in the area, but this place is totally worthwhile. I usually eat here for lunch the buffet but have had dinner here once. It does compare well to other Indian restaurants from A2, Lansing, and the metro-D area. The staff are always friendly and courteous. I love the chicken dishes, just wish lamb options were more available during the buffet. The veggie dishes are quite tasty as well. If you have never had Indian food before, just give the buffet lunch a try. The food can be surprisingly fun to eat and the good part is that you can try a little of everything and decide for yourself what you like.

Very nice atmosphere and friendly service. I only got take-out so I can't speak to the speed of the service while dining in, but my take-out only took about 10 minutes. The saag paneer was excellent as was the garlic naan, and the prices were very reasonable. I was especially pleased that they were not stingy with the paneer nor with the chopped garlic that is cooked inside the naan. Even though I live a ways away, this will be my go-to Indian place based on the quality, and quantity, of the food.

if you are expecting slightly overpriced, "hole in the wall" dining with mediocre food and whatever service - eat and be happy. If you are expecting anything nicer then read on. bottom line... not coming back. very odd atmosphere. Was more like a cafeteria at a workplace where no one wanted to be. It was quiet... too quiet. Awkward from the very entrance. When you walk into a restaurant, there should be no doubt as to what is to happen next. You walk up to a greeting station, and the establishment directs the customer from there. Upon walking in, there are just seats/tables, and this odd "bar" you see in the picture. It was like the colored person, walking into a western saloon where all the noise stops and the white folk stop and look at the new colored stranger! It was nice that someone approached us right away and asked us how many, otherwise we would have thought we seat ourselves. Place looks rundown. Bathrooms... sorry, im trying to get the memories out of my head. We were looking forward to meeting family here and having nice dinner, but atmosphere deflated our spirits. Server was very polite but could hardly understand him through mumbling. Food was ok... I suppose... given price, you get what you pay for. We were especially GROSSED out by a long hair in our appetizer! As far as indian food is concerned, food is not good enough to justify dining in a relatively low to medium class place. People were not at all professional looking. Shirts untucked - clothes seemed like people from the back kitchen were taking care of customers. Some guy in a white apron (probably the cook) kept coming up to cash register. Some kid (probably owner's) using table in middle of restaurant with his laptop and "lunchbox" playing movies (loud) really took away from the ambience. God only knows what goes on behind closed doors there. I suppose i expected a lot more from the Yelp reviews. We definitely did not need to shower and wear nicer clothes to come here. Very few indian restaurants realize that a successful restaurant comes from investing in the experience as well as food. I only give one star because i dont know how to give zero stars. Im sure these guys are a nice family and are up to code... but my money isnt coming here again.

I love this place. The food is good and the service is top notch and very friendly. I don't have a lot to compare this to, having only eaten Indian food at a couple other restaurants in Lansing, but as far as I'm concerned it's delicious. I've almost eaten everything that is vegetarian on the menu and never been disappointed. The buffet is fun for lunch and a great way to try something new. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A good place to eat. I liked the butter chicken with ghee rice. It was tasty. They are not so great in subzi, and curries. I also liked the naan. It was soft n tasted good with the chicken gravy. I will give a 3/5 for this restaurant. We almost went around 3 pm for lunch and the waiter asked us to hurry up. It was kinda of not nice when they spoke to us. They could have been a lil more polite. So I'll give a 1/5 when it comes to service.

My only experience with this restaurant involved receiving a rather unremarkable meal that was at least 50% bones and fat. I do not think this is authentic Indian food, at all, despite they do attempt to create the appearance it is. Those who are involved in managing the establishment and preparing the food so not seem to have much, if any, background in that area. This becomes apparent quite quickly. The atmosphere inside is ok, if you like being in a fish bowl and surrounded by tackiness. They will try and seat you right in the window, so you can be an advertisement to the many people walking by the place, who stare at you while you eat. I'd suggest asking for a spot away from the front, so you can enjoy your meal. To say it is the worst "Indian" food I have ever had is completely accurate, but somewhat unfair as I have only been to a few Indian restaurants. On my visit, the staff behaved... "oddly". I'm not exactly sure how to express this... Sort of a nervousness about them, as if they are waiting to see if you are going to run to the bathroom to be sick or sneak out without paying. It's strange, and a bit unsettling. As with everything else in Flint, standards are automatically lowered, and I can't say I will not ever return here, since it does seem to be the only option for Indian food in the city. Perhaps some items are much better or worse than others on the menu.

Love Grill of India! The foodi is really yummy (mushroom masala and garlic nan, my fav) and the staff is really, really nice!

The Grill of India is my favorite place to eat in Flint. I have turned a lot of people on to this place who were at first hesitant to try it. Favorite dish is the chicken vindaloo and the naan bread is out of this world. Dishes are very reasonably priced if you order off the menu and the portions are healthy (I usually have to have them wrap the leftovers up for me to take home if I order off the menu). The best deal though is to go to the lunch buffet which I am almost 100% sure goes from 11am to 2pm weekdays. Call ahead though to make sure of the time. The buffet is nice because you can try a little bit of everything if it's your first time to see what you like. Really friendly service. The wait staff are always there to refill your drink but you have to ask them for more naan bread, which is not a big deal since they make it fresh each time you ask for it.

This isn't the best Indian food I've had, but it is the best (only?) Indian food in Flint. The lunch buffet is affordable and pretty tasty, but could use a little more spice. They probably keep it mild to please more people. The bread that comes with your meal is wonderful. No booze.

  • Casper L.

Great tasting food. Excellent/friendly/attentive service. Lots of selections for vegetarians/vegans. Decent prices. Delicious and fair priced lunch buffet (again with several vegan/vegetarian options). They play great Indian music. Try the okra fry, baigan bharta or the chana masala, and don't forget the vegetable pakoras! Spice level is true to how you order (medium=medium) If you want to try very good Indian food, check out the lunch buffet to sample many items off of their menu (7 days a week from 11ish-2:30 PM $7.95 weekdays/$9.95 weekends)
