We are looking to find a regular Sunday brunch place to go early in the am (7-8ish) to teach the kid how to eat and act in a restaurant, but with low stakes (i.e. not a lot of people, quick meal and food she would like). Today was not a good day to explore some closer to home options as the Dream Cruise shut everything down around us in Ferndale (Mae's, The Emory). Hilton Road Cafe was open, so here we went. Cute little hole in the wall, and like the other reviews, very very small. 2-3 booths, 3 or 4 little two person tables and maybe 4-6 chairs at a counter. Now there are 3 4 person tables outside, which really helps. Lot's of specials, which is great, and a pretty full breakfast menu, with all the fixins you could want. NO substitutions for anything however. We ordered a Greek omelette, pancakes, toast, scrambled eggs and hash browns. The omelette was great with fresh food, cooked perfectly, hard to go wrong with eggs and toast - the pancakes were really good, and hash browns cooked to perfection (we ask always for burnt hash browns because we don't like em mushy, if you say burn em, they usually bring em out perfect for us which is crunchy and dark brown on the outside, and not mushy on the inside). Good coffee - a kids menu that is also a coloring book and a bucket of crayons that kept our little one occupied. Food came out fast and hot. Like really fast. The only reason I gave 3 instead of 4 stars is because I think its a little pricey for what we had particularly and for breakfast in general.

Hilton rd cafe was the first restaurant I went to in Ferndale. Their sandwiches are amazing. Pretty small inside so not the best for larger groups but their carry out seemed to move quickly. Cant go wrong with anything off the menu.

This place is right next to my work and it is hands down the best lunch place in the area. Everything on the menu is delicious. The food is prepared fresh and they bring it out to you quickly. The specials menu is always awesome. Today I ordered the smoked pulled pork sammy and it blew most bbq restaurants I've been to out of the water. I also like getting tea here sometimes. They have so many options so you can try something new each visit or stick with your fave. Try the chicken pot pie too, it's scrumtralescent.

This is what a breakfast diner should be. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the atmosphere is very homey. I recommend you check this out with a friend on a lazy weekend.

Great breakfast and service! I had the Country Benedict, which had some of the best sausage gravy I've had in the Midwest. My friend had a delicious French Toast special with Nutella, peanut butter, and bananas. The standard menu offers a wide range of breakfast and lunch selections, but do not miss the specials as there are really interesting meals on offer. The restaurant has relatively limited seating indoors and a nice patio outside, but its worth it!

Thanks for the help, Yelpers. We found this cute diner with it's country kitchen look and tasty eats to be just what we needed. One of the sandwich specials that called out to us was the Cuban Reuben, a hefty sandwich enough to split. With a side of homemade grilled pumpkin bread and southwestern tortilla soup, I felt like I had just been treated to a meal at grandma's house. On a side note, I was slightly put off by seeing the two cooks and a server standing out by the dumpsters in the back, smoking in their aprons right before we entered the cafe. It wasn't the most appealing sight to see before you eat, but I can get over it.

Love this place, I really do. Friendly atmosphere and lots of choices. Nothing fancy, just a nice place to pop in and say hi :)

I overheard a couple discussing various breakfast options in the Royal Oak/Ferndale Area and they went through the normal list of suspects: Mae's, Fly Trap, Cafe Muse. THey clearly didn't know about HRC because this is the place where they have the BEST eggs, BEST potatoes, most CREATIVE menu and OUTSTANDING service. I didn't butt in because I have realized that some people really enjoy greasy potatoes and eggs that are a hue that doesn't resemble the color yellow. At HRC, you can good good honest down to earth home cookin' without the slap-dash lower quality ingredients other places use to save a few cents here and there. Now you can order the best biscuits and gravy in Oakland County here if you want heart-attack on a plate for your morning feeding, but be aware that the bacon here is downright lean and doesn't leave your hands sticky. I forgot to mention the staff. Even the adorable grill guy says "hi" from the kitchen. The wait staff will have your drink waiting for you when you walk in - now that's service. The owner is a great woman - the main reason why this place is just a hit.

This was my second time here and while the first time gave me reason to come back, this visit left me a little disappointed. We were trying to avoid the strip with the Nightmare Cruise going on so we opted to give HRC a shot. The inside was fairly busy and there was an open un-cleared table outside so we jumped on it since people were rolling in and it didn't seem like anyone was keeping track of who arrived when. So we sat...and while I know that some ex-servers may have a bitch about that, deal with it...we don't mind sitting at a dirty table until the server gets the chance to clean it off, and we certainly didn't want to get the shaft on the table. The problem was she didn't clean it off....she cleared it but left the spilt coffee and crumbs on the table which is a little gross. That said, she was really sweet and she seemed pretty busy so we dry wiped it ourselves. She brought us our coffees and took our orders. I had the Veggie Scramble and my girl had an omelet. She really liked hers while I wasn't a fan of mine but I ordered wrong...I should've went for something heartier with hashbrowns and something with meat in it. I had hopes of a really fresh tasting scramble but the seemingly canned-tasting mushrooms and the super wilted spinach were a downer. Zachary F., a former cook for HRC, assured me they were indeed fresh mushrooms and that I'm a "jack-ass" who has never cooked a thing in my life...I could've been wrong, it has happened before but like I said, I ordered wrong and my expectations got the best of me. So, I suppose you should take what I say with a grain of salt. All that aside, I'd like to give this place another try once we file through the some of the other spots around town because I know HRC is solid, but on this particular day the service nor the dish satisfied me.

You must go and try their fresh blueberry bread and have it grilled. Seriously SO good. I've ate here a bunch for breakfast and dinner and have never been disappointed. I love how things are handmade here. I ordered their tortellini with meatballs. Really good! And I've had their French toast with strawberries. Big portions and quality food.

This place is GREAT. REALLY tight place though....maybe you'll be lucky enough to have great weather and a table outside? Really nice staff, terrific food, can't beat it. (Parking can be somewhat problematic at peak times)

Went for a Sunday brunch with a friend and my 16 month old daughter. The place is tiny - 3 booths that seat 4-6 people, a 2-person table, and a bar area that seats about 10. The service we had was great - we waited for a bit for a table because it was so small, but our server was nice and very accommodating. We got our food fairly quickly, but it was sub-par - not bad, but nothing to rave about or anything that would bring me back. Before breakfast, we decided to get their house bread. My friend got hers "warmed" and it was warmed in the microwave; I got mine grilled and it was delicious.

Oh my goodness, this place has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants. Every single time I come here, I get fantastic service. The coffee is always nice and hot, and the tea selection is really appreciated! Most places only have generic tea--but Hilton Road Cafe has pretty much any kind you'd want. I keep wanting to order off the regular menu, but the specials up on the board are always too tempting to pass up. We always start with some grilled specialty breads, like pumpkin, lemon poppyseed, apple, banana, zucchini, blueberry, carrot, etc. Their huevos rancheros are absolutely TO DIE FOR, as are the western breakfast tacos. Cinnamon toast crunch french toast sticks---are you KIDDING me? So delicious. My sister and I found this place in December, and we've already gone about 6 times. It's our new favorite place! You can't beat the service, the high-quality food, or the fun/funky ambiance.

Sorry i've been away ya'll!! Life was calling and I had to answer! Hope you missed me as much as I've missed you! A-ha!! This is the old Millie's... My parents used to go to Millie's back in the day... I went in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised!! I didn't even look at their regular menu, cuz the specials board is KILLER! I was in a simple mood, so I went with split pea soup (homemade) and the deluxe grilled cheese which boasts 3 or 4 cheeses, bacon and tomatoes on texas toast. That was one hell of a sammie, let me tell ya! For the soup and sammie it was a little over 7.00. A litte high maybe, but the ingredients were fresh and delicious, so I didn't mind. I WILL go back and try breakfast and dinner too. I'm so happy this place is close to me!! The girl there behind the counter was very very nice and I did something i've never done (or never thought I would do) I would call it a no-no for sure, but something compelled me. I told her I was a yelper. I know, right? Dumb!! But she was nice before I said that, so I felt better. The place is pretty small, like 3 booths and maybe 7 stools, but they do carry out on everything so that is helpful! Go in and check them out, and be sure to look at the specials board!! /Good!

Definitely check out the specials - there is quite a lot there. I cruised up to the counter early on Sunday afternoon and all the tables were taken. No matter, the counter was mostly empty. I went with the caramel apple pancake (madness!) special with a side of bacon. Holy hell was it good! As hard as I tried, I could not finish it all. But man: slices of cinnamon apples, caramel/apple sauce and three ginormous pancakes. After tip, it was less than $10! We got this day off to a great start! I will have to come back for something savory. . . .

Always great breakfast! Be sure to check the specials board. Had the potato pancakes this weekend and they were delish. I've also had several omelettes here, never a bad one. Everything is homemade, down to the bread served with many of the dishes. Only down fall is its super small with limited seating. But it's well worth the wait.

My husband and I love Hilton Road Cafe. We live very close and it is within walking distance. The food is all homemade and fresh. Great portions for a great price. We have recently tried dinner items here also and they have been great too. I have to say my favorite menu item lately are the cap'n crunch French toast sticks. A+ in my opinion. The owner and the staff are great also and know your name when you walk in the door so it feels like home.

Until recently, I had only been to Hilton Road Cafe for breakfast. The convenience of the location coupled with the service and good eats make it a no-brainer on those days I'm looking for some food in the AM. A few days ago was the first time we ventured in for dinner- It was a beautiful evening, and Hilton Road is within walking distance. I thought it would be a splendid idea to get some "home-cooked" dinner and one of Effie's fantastic desserts. The menu at HRC is heavy on breakfast - but also features a variety of sandwiches and salads. It's worth noting that Hilton Road Cafe has no french fries. Not a problem for me at all - but something that I found surprising. It is on the daily special board where you can find the evenings entree options. On this particular night, it was the Chicken Monterey that stood out to me- two grilled chicken breasts with monterey jack cheese, peppers and onions served with a rice and choice of soup/salad. I chose the cream of potato soup, which was hearty and delicious with hidden veggies inside. The chicken dish was extremely filling and is something I wouldn't be afraid to order again. We couldn't leave without getting dessert - we ordered the cherry crumb pie a la mode and double chocolate bumpy cake. I highly suggest you do the same. ;) I try to cook at home from time to time- and while the food I make is edible and sometimes tastes "good", when I am in the mood for something homey for dinner that makes me feel warm and comfy - I'll be back again.

Hard to say who has a fluffier omelet, these guys or the guys down the street. Both are the best in the area in my opinion. Love the specials menu at this place. The Sheppard's Pie is bonkers!

This is a very pleasant diner. It is close enough, where it is on my top 3 list for impromptu places to go when home and hungry. This tends to be for an early-ish dinner, when the restaurant is not so crowded. I normally order off of the specials list, which hasn't disappointed yet, but on the menu I'd recommend a breakfast scramble and the salads (super fresh). And of course you must eat some dessert, because everything is homemade. The iced tea is also quite good. The servers are very friendly, especially because they defend me while I'm engaged in heated debates with friends. As has been written by many, the prices are low, and the food is great!

What a little gem of a place right here in Ferndale! I though I had run out of places to go, until I found Hilton Road Cafe. It is super quaint, super cheap, and really good! I've been a few times now and have tried both breakfast and lunch and I can say they are both delicious. For breakfast I've had the pancake breakfast and the breakfast croissant. They were both really good (and both really cheap at about $5 each), but I liked the sandwich better. The pancakes are really pretty tasty, though. Their breakfast potatoes, any way you get them are great. Super crispy, just how I like em'! For lunch, I've had both the poppyseed salad and the greek salad. Both were so good. I have been looking for a good place to go for a salad (besides Anita's) and now I've found it! I just wish they were open a little longer on the weekends. The chicken poppy salad is the best thing I've ordered there. It is only $7.50 and you get mixed greens, chicken, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, and pecans with poppyseed dressing. Yum! Plus you get bread with that too! One thing you should make sure to do is order some of their homemade bread. Make sure they grill it for you too. It makes it SO much better with the seasoning from the grill on there. You will not be disappointed! Oh, and the staff is super nice too!

My lunch tour of Ferndale continues. This was one of Kevin's recommendations. It was busy, so I just sat at one of the few open stools at the counter - next to one regular busy with his paper and another guy who was just looking for lunch. The food was good and plentiful. I can vouch for the freshly made hash browns - I had a clear view of the guy in the kitchen peeling and shredding the potatoes by hand. Service was consistent if slow. I had the Chicken Lemon Rice soup - very thick, good for these cold, damp days we can't seem to get away from. Parking is minimal, you'll probably be out on the street somewhere. At least it's not metered parking like in downtown Ferndale.

The husband and I have been to the HRC about four times total. I love the small diner feel and the servers are super friendly. I feel at home and comfortable there. There's never a long wait either to sit or get your food. I have always gotten the same thing - "Clinton's Reuben," which is a turkey reuben (my favorite sandwich in the ENTIRE WORLD). They make it perfectly - grilled marble rye, lots of cole slaw, swiss, grilled turkey and 1,000-island dressing on the side (I think it's homemade). The omelettes and breakfast items are REALLY creative, and my husband, being the adventurous one, always gets something fun. The downside is the prices; not that cheap, and it didn't dawn on me until the other day when we went again. Each sandwich is atleast $6-$7 and you only get a choice of chips, potato salad or pasta salad. Granted, I think the potato salad is homemade, but the pasta salad seems "deli-fresh" and the chips are the small bag of chips, not even the vending machine size. The omelettes are also over $7 which can be acceptable due to the creativity of ingredients. The cakes and breads are homemade; the husband got a slice of carrot cake and it was HUGE and WAY delicious. All in all, I like the place. I'd totally go back and TRY to be more adventurous with my choices.

In some forgotten era food was neither pretentious nor expensive, you know the name of the person who made your meal, and it was down-home comfort food. Surprisingly, the Hilton Road Cafe (HRC) seems to be suspended in time and transports anyone who enters its doors back to a simpler age. HRC is a small cafe/diner located on Hilton Road just south of I-696 in Fabulous Ferndale. If you blink you might miss this quaint gem of a restaurant. I have been here several times and I have never been disappointed. The most recent time I had an amazing breakfast. The service was excellent. Even the owner, Effie, who made the food came out to ask me how it was and we talked for a few minutes. The breakfasts seem to be a pretty standard selection of eggs, pancakes, breakfast meat, toast, etc. However, even the most ordinary meal comes out delicious. I suggest trying one of the skillets or the scrambles. They are so good and so filling. For not much money you get a huge plate of food. The bonus is that with the meals you get your choice of toast or a tiny loaf of some bread like banana-nut, pumpkin, poppyseed, cranberry walnut, etc. All are made fresh at HRC and all are good. Don't forget the pies and cakes are all made in store also. HRC is now open late for dinner until 8pm. I have never been here for dinner but there is normally a large board of specials that sound really good. HRC is not a huge place. It's a counter with a few booths. It's not fancy in any way, but you don't go here for the pizazz. You come here for the food and it's what will keep you coming back for more.

Went here at lunch with some work friends. What a nice cozy little Ma and Pa restaurant. Everyone shouted "Hello" as we walked in. Unfortunately we live in a place where these sort of welcomes are not typical so I probably looked like a deer in headlights as I realized they were talking to me- but the friendliness is much appreciated. The food: I got the yelp recommended Greek Salad and was not disappointed! All of the ingredients were super fresh, lots of veggies-they did not skimp...maybe a bit too much feta but overall a great little salad. I was given the choice of sides and chose the mini loaf of pumpkin bread. It was tasty and a cute touch. Not the best I've ever had, but really hit the spot! I must say though, the SOUP really stole the show. I got the cream of mushroom soup and I'm SO glad I did! It was flavorful and the mushrooms were just right. I don't think I've tasted a better cream of mushroom and I love soup. My colleagues both got the Chicken Pot Pie. It looked really tasty...just as one would expect too. In a mini casserole dish, crusty on top and nice and meaty and full of veggies on the inside. I didn't try it but they both were very happy with their choice. I'll definitely be back, this time, for breakfast! The waitress promised me that the Veggie Benedict is phenomenal. And after such a tasty lunch there- I believe her.

I can almost walk to this joint and have never been. Tons of great reviews and I thought I'd pop in finally. Its funny, I've been watching Alton Brown Feasting on Asphalt, which does focus quite a bit on places very similar to this little place. I wasn't feeling well, so I ordered a carry out which was fine because the place was packed. I noticed the barrage of deserts and was impressed. Service was great. I got a French Dip and cup of soup for 7 bucks. Food was great and I love when I see places like this do very well.

Being someone who actively seeks out local places to eat, I think this place was absolutely amazing! I don't give too too many five star ratings, but there was only pure goodness with the Hilton Road Cafe. Honestly, when I saw the name I thought it was something crafty that the Hilton brand hotels did, but it is far from that. Now, the Hilton hotels can be quite elegant and I'm not saying that this place is far from that idea, rather, it does not have the large corporate feel to it - which is beautiful. The inside is comfy and location is just right. You can tell that it is situated in a quaint neighborhood with a lot of local feel. I say the inside is comfy because while it is small, I feel like it is adequate. Reading some of the other reviews which mention the small interior being a negative - I don't know the restaurant can control that. I personally liked that it was small - if I wanted a big dining area with a loud ambiance I would have gone to an IHOP. It's a small town, locally owned restaurant; the small interior is perfectly fitting. Some people have to wait to get a table, but that's the name of the game, and part of what makes it special in my eyes. Now, the food - the most important part! The portions were large, the coffee was non-stop and warm to the touch, and the bread was unreal. I was quite hungry, so I ordered the American which was a very large portion served with hash browns which were amazing. The meal also comes with a choice of warm bread which can be cut softly with a butter knife. When the waitress was naming off the choices I had to ask her to say them twice because the list was so long. I went with pumpkin bread which was unreal. My buddies got a poppy-seed almond and blueberry - both of which were great (but I still think I got the best one). Overall, this was an amazing Sunday breakfast. I loved it and which I lived closer. The next time I'm back in the Royal Oak area, I will be back.

My favorite breakfast and lunch place in Ferndale and Royal Oak. The prices are cheap and they always have at least 7 specials with 4 soups being offered. Never had the homemade pies but heard they were great with the people I've gone here with. It is a little cramped but you can usually get a table right away or sit at the bar. Would recommend the Hilton Road Cafe a thousand times over any of the trendy, mediocre places on Woodward: Toast, Fly Trap, Mae's,etc....

  • Lydia W.

I really liked the small town feel of the cafe. It was very nice to be able to sit outside in the morning. The inside was very small and kinda warm. The food was tasty. I got bacon, toast and hash browns. All were good! I would go back but Im not sure about that if I had to sit inside on a warm day. Service was very nice and coffee got refilled on a regular basis : )

The Hilton Road Cafe wasn't great, and it wasn't terrible. It just was. Pulling into the parking lot kind of feels like you're driving through a war zone, there's no rest room, and the food is just OK. The service was friendly, accurate and quick, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I'll probably be back to give this place another go-around. Maybe I just picked an average dish that morning?

When I lived in Ferndale with my sister this was the go-to place for us to get the perfect weekend breakfast after a night of heavy drinking. The place is small, so unfortunately they are a victim of their own success in many regards. Getting a table can be tricky at times, so make sure you're cool with sitting at the bar. (I'm surprised I actually had to write that, but reading some of the bad reviews of this place I can't say I'm shocked at what people will bitch about anymore.) The place is small but it is comfortable. The decor may be kitschy (my sister and I refer to it as the Rooster Restaurant) and it may be in the less-fashionable East Ferndale, and that's why I like it. I don't want to feel like I have to dress to impress while I shovel eggs, bacon and coffee down my gullet to appease the hangover beast that is living in my belly. The Hilton Road Cafe is also known for there extensive list of baked goods and deserts that rotate daily. The one downfall about having to sit at the bar is that I'm forced to stare at the delicious pies and cakes while I twitch like a crack-addict waiting for my Western skillet to arrive. You can usually order one of their various house breads instead of the standard bread trinity of white-wheat-rye with your breakfast. However, the house breads go FAST, so you need to be a pre-11:00 am diner if you want to avoid the devastation of hearing they're out of the blueberry bread.

Went here for the first time and was pleased with their big portions, low prices, and friendly service. I ordered the chicken parmesan and my friend got the chicken marsala and both were very tasty. I want to come back and try breakfast. Cute decor.

We had plans to attend the Yelprov Elite event practically around the corner, so we decided to try a new restaurant for dinner. I do have to say that I wouldn't really call the cafe a Greek diner, though--they had a few Greek items, but it wasn't exclusively Greek. That said, our experience was enough to make me a fan. The place is fairly small--there are ten counter seats and four booths of different sizes (two booths for 6, although it might be a bit cramped; one booth for four; and one booth for two). We had drinks on our table before hubby even made it inside from parking the car! The menus are quite extensive so there should be something for everyone here. I opted for a gyro sandwich and a cup of Italian Wedding soup and my husband got the French Onion Soup. All of it was quite tasty, although not the best we've ever had. But the service was really fast (we were in and out in about 30 minutes) and really personable. Since it's a small place, you can hear the conversations between the waitress and the kitchen and people talking back and forth. You can also tell it's a popular local place because half the people that came in while we were there knew the employees and warm hellos were exchanged all around. The prices are decent, too--both of us ate a full meal for $16 + tip. Not bad for a good meal and good service. I wouldn't say this place is a MUST, but if you're in the area or close by, I wouldn't hesitate to stop!

My first time here... Small interior with only 3 booths and "diner counter" seating. Very friendly waitress which started things off on a very positive note. She took our order and promptly brought our drinks. I ordered the avocado BLT wrap with a cup of cream of mushroom soup. Soup was homemade and pretty tasty. The wrap was on the smaller side but was also fresh and good. My wife ordered the southwest chicken wrap with cole slaw. Both were good but nothing too amazing. Basically, it was one of those places that you would not rush back to but you might also return to when in the area. It was slightly above average for a coney/diner. However, while waiting for the check we saw one of the cooks (you can see the kitchen from the booths) take a huge bite off of a spatula of what looked like cole slaw. REALLY! Pretty gross that the cooks are in the back casually eating the food that they are serving using the serving utensils! I can't get the sight of dripping cole slaw being stuffed into his mouth right in the middle of the kitchen. BLAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! This sealed the deal that I will not be making it back to the Hilton Road Cafe anytime soon. The other thing that boggles my mind are all of the positive reviews for this place on yelp. They have 45 reviews with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The owners must have "juiced" the reviews!

A classic diner experience. Kitchy decor is actually a nice touch. Waitstaff is great, and of course the food is good. I've only been there for breakfast, but you get exactly what you've signed up for - consistently good diner breakfast with yummy omelettes and pancakes - and you'll leave very happy. It's small, so you might have to wait on a Saturday, but it's worth it.

I've been searching for the best go to breakfast place in the RO/ Ferndale area for almost 2 years and was ecstatic to discover Hilton Cafe. I usually order one of their many recurring specials ( asparagus/ shrimp omelette, MacDaddy, Nutella waffle etc) and have always left , full satisfied and content with the affordable prices and large portions. The staff are fast and friendly and my coffee mug is always full..I ate here for dinner recently and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy my meal just as much. My only suggestion would be to come in the late am in a weekend since it is a very small p,ace with limited seating, but the wait is never very long !!!!

Stop in on Friday, February 16th. It was in the afternoon and the place wasn't crowded at all, i.e., empty. I ate the grilled chicken breast sandwich. Tasted ok. Staff was friendly. I'll have to go back and try something else.

Wow, this little place is really really good!! I got an amazing Reuben with potato salad. I was surprised when I found that the potato salad did not come from a big jug. It was clearly homemade and it had bacon in it!!!! Yum, I bet the other side options are amazing as well. I will absolutely frequent this establishment!

After a late night of Halloweening, my fiance and I woke up late on a Sunday morning hungry for a good breakfast. Our usual brunch stop was packed out the door, so with hunger pangs pushing us through Pleasant Ridge I remembered a little place the former owner of our house told us about - the Hilton Road Cafe. So we meandered through the PR to Hilton and up to the Cafe. I knew this place was small, but goodness gracious is it tiny! This could make it a dive, but here, it's a rather charming quality. Sitting at the smallest table in the joint, it reminded me a little bit of Mel's diner from that old '70s TV show Alice. But instead of "Kiss My Grits," our friendly server kept us sufficiently full of coffee and water, and brought our piping hot food out super quickly. My Eggs Benedict were deliciously gooey, though I would have preferred a more toasted English muffin. My fiance's country skillet was a devilishly good combination of eggs, hash browns, sausage and gravy - it was absolutely sinful and he loved every bit. Hunger pangs put to rest, we left the HRC and headed home for a day of cheesy horror films and Halloween cleanup. We'll be back to haunt this place again soon.

I'm totally a fan of this place! It was a lot smaller than I expected but I really like the cozy feeling here! I ended up ordering a spinach and feta omelette with hashbrowns and rye toast. Most places use canned spinach and sparse amounts of feta but not here! My omelette was LOADED with fresh, yummy spinach and stuffed with just the right amount of feta. The hashbrowns were crispy and the toast was....well, you can't really screw up toast can you? My fiance probably should have ordered pancakes or something but he got adventerous and got the cod and mac. The macaroni was friggin awesome...I really liked the dense cheese sauce and the breadcrumb topping. It reminded me a lot of my homemade mac! The cod....not so much. It was kind of wet and it was in these weird tube shapes...like maybe they had been frozen or something? He ended up only eating 1 piece and he got pretty sick after that...but I say that's the price you pay for ordering weird crap sometimes! We definitely want to come back but I think next time he will get a breakfast item :) I would love to try the patty melt but they don't have fries! I just can't have a patty melt about fries. Service was good but not the friendliest. It was kind of weird at times...we both had empty glasses and she took one, filled it, came back and took the other one and then filled it. It just was kind of odd. Oh...and their desserts look FANTASTIC. I definitely plan on coming back and trying some of their pie or that GIGANTIC chocolate cake that they have!

Yelp never lets me down!! (If I could do 4.5 stars I would...) We opted to dry dinner here on a Monday night and didn't regret it. It was a trendy diner. The staff was efficient and constantly refilling our waters. The food was warm and tasty. We all got sandwiches and loved them!! The pasta salad side was super yummy! They had a nice selection of daily specials. It has a small town cafe kind of feel, its on the smaller side but that is what makes it cozy. The prices were super reasonable (under $10 for a super awesome meal!). Their breakfast menu looked amazing, I will BE back. Thanks yelp for never letting me down!!!

Incredible diner that doesn't get as busy as Toast does yet has comparable food and better prices. Get their bread, it's great.

My b/f and I still hit up this place often. We're on a first name basis now with the owners and staff. Some notes: -I *LOVEEEEE* their mac n cheese. Don't ask me if it's better than Slow's because I have never and will never step foot in that place. It is damn good though. Problem is that it isn't on the main menu. It only comes as a side to their fish entrees that are featured every Friday. -Their specials seem to have a daily theme. Saturdays + Sundays= breakfast. Friday= seafood. Thursday= Greek. I don't mean that the ENTIRE specials list is one theme, but a majority of the stuff on it is. - I dig their veggie burger (one of today's specials). It's homemade, not some reheated Boca burger. Why the hell would I pay for a Boca burger at a restaurant? - Their french onion soup is awesome. - THEY DO HAVE A BATHROOM! You just have to walk through the kitchen to get to it (awkward!) My b/f has used it and he says it's nice and clean, you just gotta have enough guts to walk in!

Came here the other night after a long day at work. I just wanted a good, quick bite to eat. This place delivered that. It's a relatively small diner. Maybe seats 20 people, ten of which would be at the counter. They have a decent sized menu filled with various breakfast items and salads and sandwiches. There was a chalkboard with some dinner specials on it. I choose Grilled Salmon with Asparagus. I started with a cup of chili. It was delicious. Just the right amount of spice to it to warm you up. I could easily eat a bowl of this for a meal. The salmon was damn good. It was cooked to perfection. It was topped with capers that brought the flavors together nicely. The asparagus was cooked perfect. Not too firm, not too mushy, just right. There was also a side of redskin potatoes that were good, but I was too full finish. I'm firmly putting this in my rotation of restaurants. The only drawback I can see is the capacity. I'm not a fan of waiting, so during peak hours, I can see myself not being able to dine here.

Food was Coney grade. Cold and drafty when I went. Only 4 booths in the joint, all taken by couples. Sat by the door, blowing cold air on my legs. Had fungus gnats flying around me when I was eating. Had tiny pieces of broccoli in my eggs, (clean your utensils chef!). Parking lot is small and bumpy. Decor is your grandmother's house. Much better places to get some grub in Ferndale. I heard the homemade deserts are good, they look like something your mom would make, not a pastry chef. Unimpressed. Won't return.

I love this place. From creative takes on omelets to the daily specials (sometimes with crab cakes and homemade mac 'n' cheese), this place has got it all! The staff is also sweet and personable. Pro tip: everything on the menu is excellent but the real gold is on the specials board.

What a hidden gem! Everyone knows the places downtown, but what about the little places off the beaten path that are actually GOOD? Had lunch with a friend here the other day, and both of us have been meaning to try it thanks to the Yelp following for it. So glad we did! First, parking is a bit tricky. They don't seem to have any along the side of the building or in back (lots of signs that said NO parking for the Cafe), so I parked on the side street. And the place is extremely tiny.. almost claustrophobic. I'm afraid to see what it looks like on a Sat or Sun... Their menu is pretty typical of most diners... lots of breakfast stuff, sandwiches, salads, etc. They had a specials board, and I felt compelled to give the French dip a whirl. It came with soup, and being a sucker for Lemon Rice I had to go for it. And I'm so glad I did-- it was awesome! Good portion size and very tasty. My friend had some type of veggie omelet, and she said it was really good. I have to say, with so many tasty options on the menu and such delicious food I can't wait to keep going back and trying new stuff. Ultimately, I think that this place is solid. I doubt you could go wrong with anything you try. And I am totally kicking myself for not taking a piece of pie home.. they had a ton of different kinds, and I hear they are really, really good. So cozy, so delicious and so reasonably priced. Can't wait to make this my new go-to spot.

I have to say that Hilton Road Cafe is a great little place to eat. They have many, many daily specials, including; 3 or 4 different soups, little homemade mini loaves of bread (i.e. blueberry, pumpkin, poppyseed...) and fresh pies and cakes. There is usually a good selection of vegetarian meals on the specials menu as well. Prices are great, especially if you eat out frequently or are on a budget. I've had everything from salmon patties to a veggie omelette and I have never been disappointed. The people who own this restaurant are super friendly and you can feel the pride that they have for the place in the great food that they serve. I love the friendly smiles and greetings that they give to patrons as they come in out of the cold and into the cozy place. The only bad thing, and this is not the restaurants fault at all, is the d-bag business next to it has posted no parking signs virtually everywhere. Come on, give them a break! It's not like the business next door is open 24/7, do you really need to make it that hard for people to enjoy the homemade goodness of your neighbors? Tsk, tsk. That being said, it is simply worth it to come and eat here, and kids love it too. Great value.

An average diner. While I wasn't fully impressed at my first visit, I will probably give it another try. The Hilton Road Cafe offers some very unique choices, and while not all of them are my bag, they do it pretty decently. The portions are decently sized, the prices are alright. This seems to be a running theme for the Cafe, as the service was good, but nothing beyond what I'd hope should be run of the mill. I will probably update my review on this place once I go a few more times, but for now, The Fly Trap, Dino's and company are strongly preferred.

Favorite breakfast place! We woke up and wanted breakfast one lazy afternoon and headed here, Everything was good. The biscuits and gravy I stole off my boyfriend's plate was to die for and my hash browns were done perfectly. Not the frozen from the bag kind either, they use actual potatoes which is always a huge plus! I've only been once and it was enough for me to never go anywhere else again as long as I'm in the neighborhood.

So friendly! Such solid value. I've now been here a few times, but I must say that the absolutely giant Greek salad that Toni C turned me on to is so great and filling that I haven't yet tried anything else! It is indeed key to get the dressing on the side because it's pretty unlikely you're going to be able to scarf that whole thing down... and hey, who wants salad that's soggy later? If I lived in the neighborhood, I could see how this would easily become a staple of my restaurant rotation. Between the really kind staff to the rooster decorations, HIlton Road Café is like a cozy home-away-from-home.

I Yelped this place this morning while searching for breakfast food without the 40 minute wait. I went here, expecting still a giant wait because after all, it's Ferndale. Much to my surprise there was a booth open and even though the air was broken, they had a lot of fans going and tried to accommodate the customers. My fiance and I both had omelets which were a good size and came with hash browns and toast like any diner. They actually burnt my hash browns though, which is great because normally I ask for them burnt and they're barely done, but these were dark brown and crispy crispy, just the way I like it. It has a Grandma's kitchen feel to it, the service is friendly and prompt, and I think I've found a new "regular" place to go. My only issue was that I felt it was a bit overpriced. My meal was $7.35 and my juice was $1.75. I'm starting to think it's just an Oakland County kinda thing though. I will definitely be back though and multiple times! I'll shell out the dough to keep this cute country kitchen open!

Our party of four were all pleased with our breakfasts, although it's been a few weeks since we went, I couldn't tell you what everyone ordered now. Nice little diner, good food, reasonable portions. We also bought several assorted mini loaves (pumpkin, blueberry, banana nut, poppyseed, etc) to take home for breakfast the next day. The waitress suggested splitting them in half lengthwise, spreading a little butter on them, and frying them in a pan. Right On!!!

Thank you yeplers! as i've said my partner and i recently bought a house in ferndale. we really love breakfast on sunday. as i was going through yelp.com i saw that this place had really good reviews from everyone and it's just right around the corner. well, we walked in and "edge of seventeen" was playing on the radio and i immediatley loved the place. stevie nicks' witchy ways can easily do that to me. the place is small and cute and the waitress and i talked about yelp and how i found the restaurant there. the waitresses were soooooo nice. i have this bad waitress karma (maybe because i was a disgruntled waitress/waiter for 7 yrs). when i get a nice one who likes feeding people and talking i just am so happy. the pumpkin muffin/tiny loaf was so good. i have this addiction to pumpkin flavored things. i wanted to touch myself after. the breafast was really good and even my super picky, yet beautiful sister loved hers. also it was sunday around 10am and the place was nowhere near as busy as the fly trap or toast. i love those restaurants, but sometimes you don't want to wait 45 minutes for a table when you have a hangover from saturday gin and tonics. anyway, i recommend highly this place and say thank you again yelpers. love, juston

I am a huge fan of Hilton Road Cafe Breakfast menu. The only reason why I did not give them five stars is because their carry out never takes less than 30 minutes (once I had to cancel my order because the time elapsed exceeded 45 minutes for two very simple omelets!). I understand they are a small diner, but it was extremely frustrating and unacceptable since they said 15-20 minutes. Onto the food... the omelets are wonderful but the homemade loafs of breads are AMAZING! I usually get the Farmers Omelet or a simple ham and cheese and I'm always satisfied. The bread really adds a special treat to the meal. I am a fan of each and every single loaf they offer!

I had to up HRC's rating to 5 stars because I just had their turtle cake for my birthday. The cake was AWESOME! A full-sized chocolate cake made up of *four* layers with delicious, not too sweet, light, fluffy chocolate frosting comingling with caramel and fudge. Topped off with a crumbling of pecan. The quality of cocoa is superb and well-balanced with the amount of sweetness. The devil's food cake itself was not heavy at all and inspired overindulgence. The evenness and fine consistency of the cake almost fools you into thinking that it came from a mix. Nope, no mix, just expert bakers.

It's like walking into someone's house and being treated like family. And not the dysfunctional kind. They know everyone because you can't help becoming a regular. Effie's baked goods are insane. Her pineapple upside down cake, when it can be found, cannot be missed. I always end up buying her homemade bread to go. They know how to cook an egg over-medium which is a rare find. The place is decorated with a lot of chicken memorabilia. She started out with a few chicken themed items and now her customers keep bringing her chicken chochkies and she's overrun. She's the kind of person you want to give a present to, just forget about the damn chickens. Each one that shows up is just something new they have to dust.

EFFIE IS THE QUEEN OF DESSERTS. Hilton Road Cafe is diner food made with fresh ingredients with many dishes given a Greek twist. EFFIE IS THE SWEETEST LADY. IT MAKES SENSE THAT SHE HAS MASTERY STATUS WITH THE CAKES, BREADS AND PIES Originally, the restaurant was only open until 3pm, but now they are open until 8pm. That was enough to earn the 5th star from me. I must admit I am a tad biased as this fine establishment is right around the corner from where I live in Royal Oak. It just cannot be beat though. I really hope someone famous recognizes Effie's skills in the kitchen. I LOVE DESSERT. That is all.

How many great small diners does Ferndale have... I had the french dip and a cup of potato soup, both were outstanding...I always cry a little bit inside when I go to a restaurant that does not own a deep fryer but oh well since I have been trying to cut back. After I ate I didnt miss the crispy golden goodness of french fries...my friend had some chicken wrap that he devoured before I could taste it but the red skin potato salad was great. They have bake goods and pies etc for dessert Kind of small on the inside but I survived...give it a try sometime....

So nice to see a small business that's so social media aware. The Hilton Road Cafe proudly displays their "reviewed on yelp" sticker on their door. They have every reason to be proud, the food was INCREDIBLE (the country omelet was the stuff of fantasy), the servers were lovely and cheerful and the prices were absolutely reasonable. The place is tiny, but the atmosphere was perfect for a friendly neighborhood diner. It made me wish I lived nearby!

Great food nice change up in menu with fresh choices every visit. Very small, no parking but worth the wait. Good people, large portions more people should know about this place but if they did they would have to find a larger location and I would never get to eat. This is a must add location to a weekend breakfast rotation

Myself and two others went here Saturday based on reviews here on Yelp and I will say that once again, Yelp didn't disappoint! I ordered breakfast and the hash browns were crispy, the eggs were fluffy and the sausage had a wonderful flavor. My one companion ordered a gyro and said it was the best they'd ever had and ranked right up there with the ones they got at Greektown. Service was attentive yet not intrusive...major plus! In short, go here if you want a decent breakfast or lunch.

Oh my God, I ate here for breakfast, and now it's going on five pm and I'm STILL full. This place is such a treat to come across. I've only been for breakfast, but I can't wait to try it for lunch. I had a Farmer's Omelet with hash browns and toast--yum yum yum. The potatoes in the omelet were cut a little large, but I'm a big girl; I can cut my own food. The inconsistent sizes of potatoes just means that they cut them by hand rather than pouring them out of an Ore Ida bag. And on that note of freshness, the ham cubes are REAL ham. This is not cubed water-packed deli meat. This is actual ham with actual flavor. And hash browns are rarely something to make special note of, but these were amazing. If I could, I would just eat their hash browns for breakfast. I don't know what to do to these, but they have a lot of flavor beyond "potato." The atmosphere here is great; I ate at the counter, and the waitresses are lovely. They make you feel like you're eating dinner at home, which is what homestyle food is all about. It's great to come across a place where people really care about making you feel comfortable. The only downside is that this place is tiny. They seriously have four tables and then counter seating. However, I'm not taking a star off because this place has clearly just grown in the last couple of months and they haven't expanded. Plus, when we were waiting for breakfast, they got us coffee. It's a nice touch. Like any Coney Island in the area, this place serves a nice combination of Greek and American food in a casual atmosphere. But unlike any Coney Island in the area, the food here is clearly fresh and made with care. It's a "finer diner," but unlike Flytrap or Maple Leaf, you won't find chickpea aioli. This is diner food with a "traditional" menu, but high-quality.

  • Kara H.

This is my new favorite dinner/dessert place! Emily P. and I ate here last night after having heard about it so much on Yelp, and it is sooooo good. I cannot say enough good things about the chicken noodle soup; it was literally the best chicken soup I've even had. My friend had the vegetable soup and also said it was great (neither one of us was willing to share our food). I also had the blueberry pie, normally I'm partial to apple, but I want to go back tonight for another slice. There are several downsides to the HRC, the first and foremost being that it is only open until 8pm on the weekdays and 3pm on weekends (because I crave their food constantly, they need to be open til 3am every day, at least!). The 2nd is that it's a small place, the 3rd is that there aren't any bathrooms. Despite these drawbacks, I say go right now!

  • Katie R.

I love everything about this place. Not trying too hard to be trendy like most other restaurants in Ferndale. Just plain good. The omelets are gigantic and they have so many different varieties to choose from with different ones for daily specials. Not to mention you get the delicious breads as a little breakfast appetizer. The almond poppy seed is my favorite. Good coffee not hot brown water. It's so relaxing to eat here the and it's off the beaten path of Woodward. Oh I think it's the same waitresses almost every weekend and they are great every single time. Service and food well worth it. One day I will try one of the amazing looking cakes I notice in the dessert case but am always way too full to try!

I'm re-writing this review because I've been back a handful of times and the tea-bagger waitress and the Glenn Beck militia that use to sit at the front counter are long gone. I can actully read my NYT's without getting Fox News talking points interupting me. As far as the Hilton Cafe is concerned you will not find a better breakfast/lunch restaurant in the area, and I hit alot of them while boycotting the birther crowd.

I can't believe I am just now discovering this gem that has been in my backyard for years! My husband and I were in the mood for something new for dinner, but it was a nice night so we wanted someplace close enough to ride bikes. Hilton Road cafe has been on my "places to check out" list forever and is located a short distance from downtown Ferndale, so it was a no brainer. I had read in other reviews that this place was tiny, and man, they weren't kidding. I would venture to say it's even tinier than The Fly Trap. We felt lucky to grab the last 2 open seats at the counter. The menu is pretty plain, kind of all over the place with a huge focus on breakfast. Since we were there for dinner, nothing sounded really great..UNTIL...our attention was directed behind us to the Specials board, where every feature sounded more delicious than the last and nothing was over 10 bucks. We quickly discarded our menus, swiveled our stools around and spent the next 10 minutes gazing in awe at the board, trying to decide what to order. I ended up choosing steamed salmon with potatoes and asparagus, and my husband ordered Pastitsio (greek lasagna) that came with a greek salad. Our waitress (I think she was the only one in the place) was like a ninja...taking orders, delivering meals, and still finding time to fill up our water glasses without being asked. Finally, after what seemed liek forever, the plates she had in her hands turned out to be ours. My salmon was not the most exciting, as far as flavor profiles go, but it was cooked PERFECTLY and seasoned conservatively, but well. The potatoes were a little greasy, but good. The asparagus was just asparagus, but again, cooked to perfection. Not crunchy, not mushy. The whole time I was eating, I kept thinking, "where alse can you get a meal like this for $8?" My husband's meal was the real star. The greek salad was one of the best I've ever had. First of all, They used mixed greens instead of iceburg lettuce. I don't care if this is not traditional...it was a huge improvement on the original. The veggies were fresh, and the homemade dressing...omg, the dressing...was to die for. It was the perfect mix of sweetness and oiliness and vinigariness. I wanted to drink it. I had never had Pastitsio before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was awesome as well. It looks and sounds as though it would be so heavy, but somehow it wasn't. There was something addicting about it, like each bite left you wanting two more. The desserts (made in house of course) all looked amazing, but we just couldn't do it. as we watched our waitress cut a huge slab of bumpy cake and drizzle it with chocolate syrup for the couple behind us, we vowed to save more room next time. And there WILL be a next time.

I've been to Hilton Road Cafe twice now and both times the food was delicious. I love their scrambler (eggs, cheese, sausage, bacon, potatoes and country gravy) definitely enough for both me and my husband to eat! The staff is absolutely the friendliest! The prices are great! The decor is the biggest reason I would knock this down a notch. This place should be bit bigger (you can rarely get a booth) and loose the dusty rooster decor (sorry). The next issue would be the hours! I wish they were open longer on the weekends!

What this place lacks in size it makes up for in its great food and great staff. My wife and I have been going there for years. There daily specials are numerous. There is never a problem deciding what to order. The problem is that so many of them are so good. One of our favorites is the Crabcakes. They usually have those on Fridays. My wife had the Buffalo Burger the other day and said it was great.

My absolute favorite breakfast spot in Ferndale. You'll probably have to wait 5-10 minutes for a seat on the weekends but it's a shorter wait than the Fly Trap. Food is less gourmet, but has the homemade feeling that one of your Aunt's is cooking for you.

Our first visit was OK We went on a Sunday just after lunch and the place was very busy but just as we walked in a booth opened up. Maybe it's me and I'm no neat freak by any means but I really don't like it when the booths are not wiped down and they leave a bunch of dropped food and napkins on the floor of the booth. I had to wipe the seat with my set up napkin. I left it on the edge of the table for the waitress to pick up and she never did..it was kind of an inside joke after awhile. Speaking of our waitress she was nice but never really on. Although the rush was just tailing off she seamed very overwhelmed. The food was tasty. My wife had a spinach chicken salad with lots of fruit and nuts. Just her thing. I had a Gyro. Admittedly not the best choice and although it was filling but it was nothing special that I couldn't have enjoyed more elsewhere. I think it was dirty but I'll try it again...anyone can have a bad day. they just need to pay more attention....just like everyone else.

If you ever wondered what it would be like to be from a greek family and walk into your aunt's diner, this is the spot. There's not much more that i can add that the previous reviews didn't cover, except, Thursday, greek day! The normal menu is amazing, especially the breakfast, but i tend to lean towards the specials. Mousaka, Pastichio, Spanikopita, greek pork chop and red wine braised lamb shank are not to ever be missed. Layers of noodles, topped with oregano sauteed lamb with a beschemel sauce, served with peas in tomato sauce on a bed of rice warms me to the core and keeps me smiling for days. I hear the chicken marsala is pretty smash worthy too. Please come and eat here your growing waist line will thank you . As i understand it, this is a completely a mom and pops operation. It's seriously some of the best diner food ever. Cheers.

Have so far only been here once for dinner. I'm so happy they're OPEN till 8 PM., unlike the much overrated diners a little west of here on Woodward. Both the chef and my waitress, were very attentive to my special requests. The portions were all very generous and perfectly cooked. The coffee here was almost as good as what I was served at THE FLY TRAP. I will definitely return here for BREAKFAST, hopefully beating the crowds on Sunday, if I can wake up that early and catch that very early North Woodward bus.

This place is always busy on Saturday mornings so be ready to wait or sit at the counter. All of their breakfast omelets are tasty and the homemade bread is always a nice treat because they heat it up for you and bring it out before the meal! Their biscuits and gravy are good and my friend always get the mexican omlette and it is always good!

I like this place. It seems I'm not alone. We had to wait a bit for a spot to sit and we were served some coffee while we waited (a definite plus!). When we got to our stools and ordered, our food came out quickly. Staff is very friendlyl I had a veggie omelet, boyfriend had the "monster" omelet. Both were delicious. The hashbrowns were crispy. It's tiny but the company and the vibe of the place was just right for me. Considering it's just down the road, I'll definitely be back.

Super sad to take this place off the list of breakfast spots to enjoy. My boyfriend and I have eaten there a couple times before and the wait is always a bit long due to the size, but tolerable. Today we met some friends there and waited an hour and a half. The restaurant was busy, but not slammed and there was two severs on. Working in a restaurant myself I know I could have handled the whole place myself without a problem. When food started coming out finally our friends were served and my boyfriend and I were not. Jen, our server, told us our food would be out shortly...not the case. Jen had to take our ticket back to the kitchen and by the time we got our food our friends were done eating. Even then it didn't all come out and my boyfriends corn beef hash was over cooked. I am pretty sure that she never even rang our food in initially. Jen barely apologized and did not even take anything off our bill. While I like the atsomphere, and the food is good, we will not be returning. I understand mistakes happen, I have made them myself serving, she did nothing to try to make up for the ordeal and was falsely apologetic. Thats just poor ccustomer service. Sorry Hilton Cafe, we will not be returning

I just need to add that the Greek salad probably the best I've had. Mixed greens-yeah real mixed greens-chick peas, tomato, cucumber, thinly sliced red onion, hot peppers, olives, feta and beets. Get the dressing on the side and get a large so you can eat it for two meals.

The staff is friendly the food is delicious, the only problem is sometimes they run out of the specials because they so damn good grrrrrrr. Everyone should stop in if they have a chance!

I love it because they serve 'non-breakfast food' for breakfast. I hate breakfast food and got a chicken sandwich! Amazing! Get there early because there are not many seats...

Super friendly staff, high quality food and the best home made bread... Almond / poppy seed, caramel apple, blueberry... We tried then all! Omelet was cooked perfectly and hash browns were amazing. You can tell they pride themselves in serving a great breakfast.

Cute little cafe we heard about... Had a nice outdoor area that had 3 tables. Inside there was a counter that sat 8. 5 tables inside, 2 sat 6. Every seat was taken and there was always someone waiting. My country omelette was yummy. Hash browns could have been cooked more. The mac daddy omelette wasn't so great- mac and cheese and pulled pork in an omelette might sound good, but it wasn't. It was like last nights dinner regurgitated and covered with egg. The service was pretty slow but they were busy. Drink refills were non existent. Had to ask for a water refill, but they didn't fill the other cup at the table. Never got asked for a coffee refill or warm up. Omelette were $7.85ish. We'll give them another try another day though.

I wanted to give this place 4+ stars but I just can't. I ordered the Irish Omelet, and it was pretty "meh"... It's stuffed with corned beef hash, which sounds delicious, but they mince everything into a mashed potato consistency. It was actually pretty gross. I prefer nice, chunky hash where you can taste the quality of ingredients, and I would tend to think most others do as well. The hash browns were just... "meh" as well. I love the spot, the service was good, it's a cute diner, for sure (the bathroom is wretched, not even sure how it passes code, but it's not that big of a deal), but their food, while cooked in-house, is just mediocre. The person I was with got a Denver Omelet and it was swimming in grease. She got some of their house-made "Hilton" bread with her meal, and it was undercooked and the dough was still gooey inside (definitely not intentional, it did not taste good).

When looking for a stellar breakfast this is your place! It is comfort food with a twist and gives you all the traditional breakfast food HOMEMADE. The baked in house breads are to die for and omelets perfection. I would eat here daily of I could!

Absolutely wonderful little place! Stopped in with my boyfriend on a lunch break and we both enjoyed it greatly. Cozy atmosphere, decent service, and excellent food. I had the Greek salad with gyro meat- everything tasted so fresh! My boyfriend had a Cuban Reuben on pumpernickel which was out of this world. What a surprise. I will be back.

Food is still good but they charged me a dollar to remove cheese and add avocado to my sandwich. Seems cheesy. I asked about it and she said it was policy... I don't know if I'd go back.

Maybe I expected too much given such high reviews, but I really found the Hilton Road Cafe to be just so-so. It wasn't bad, and I suppose I would return, but I would't go out of my way to do so. I think there are better places in the area. I ordered an omelette and it was quite tasty. That was definitely a highlight. The hash browns were okay, and the toast was standard diner toast, not homemade. They also only had jelly available for the toast, no jam. We ordered a homemade bread, blueberry, and it was fine, but not outstanding. It only had a few blueberries.

Well it was just ok, I was hoping for better but after my breakfast I left feeling that it just wasn't that good. The sausage gravy was bland and needed sausage in it. None of our breakfasts we're really that good. You pay premium prices, but the breakfast was what you could get at a Coney island. Maybe there are other items on there menu that are better, but this time for me only about 2 1/2 to 3 stars. Go again y. Give it another try.

I can think of nothing at all to complain about at Hilton Rd. Cafe. I am ridiculously happy that it is so close to home! Their food is homemade, and amazing. I ordered a Western Omelet, minus green peppers, add gravy and mushrooms. They were very happy to accommodate my pain in the butt order, and let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS! With my omelet I got a side order of grilled pumpkin bread, which was amazing. Definitely try the pumpkin bread, make sure to get it grilled! I am a little sad that right after we ordered I noticed their specials menu on the back wall. I would definitely suggest looking that over for things like Captain Crunch French Toast and Nutella/banana/Chocolate french toast, as well as some fun looking omelets! This place is small, clean, and very friendly. Every town needs a delicious little diner like this! I'm very happy I found Hilton Rd. C

Ferndale seems to enjoy it's tiny breakfast joints. Most people are familiar with the breakfast offerings at Toast and the Fly Trap, but if one is to divert their attention from Woodward for a moment, they will find a worthy member of the "Crammed Breakfast Club" of Ferndale, Hilton Road Cafe just a few steps away. While very simple looking with almost no parking to speak of, this place does excellent food. Inside is the greasy psuedo-country feel that you expect from a good old fashioned breakfast joint. One whole wall is completely mirrored, which almost tricks the eye at first into believing this place is larger than it truly is. The advantages of having a small space is there is no getting passed over. Service is never overburdened, able to juggle the crowd easily, orders are put in like clock work and food is steadily being plated as quick as possible. This place is a well oiled machine, a tasty well oiled machine. The regular menu is pretty straight forward, but their specials menu is almost overwhelming with all the choices that they have. You wouldn't think a kitchen that small could offer so many options. I love their food and I love Hilton Road Cafe,a nd so should you.

I think I went there weekly for a month straight and I'm not even complaining. The ladies there are just so sweet and the homey feel you get when you enter is comforting. I always get the house bread toasted because it tastes so much better that way! Their food is always amazing! Their endless supply of coffee is a god-send, especially so early in the morning. We try to go a bit after they open so it doesn't get too busy because it's a tiny spot. We always get a booth but I've always wanted to sit at the bar. Perhaps next time

So glad I found this place, my kind of place. Perfect diner for breakfast. I got the country skillet which was amazing. Love the sausage gravy on top, that was a nice surprise, didn't know what to expect taste wise with the eggs and potatoes. Now I want that every time I get a skillet! Service was a little all over the place but the place is small and tight, so whatever. Food came quick. The specials looked great but I guess they run out of them quick. Oh well, next time.

What a cute, little Ferndale treasure. This place is extremely small but very cozy, definitely what I enjoy in a place to get brunch. I went here with a couple friends and we all ordered various versions of the Country Skillet. I added onions to mine and got the house pumpkin bread with it. Everything about it was great. Flavorful and hearty and met all of my expectations. The service was great, too. Our waitress was friendly, despite being busy, and made sure we were taken care of. I'll definitely be coming back to try some of their specials.

Homemade, made from scratch, huge portions, low prices...why wouldn't you wanna eat at Hilton Road Cafe? Situated off the busy Downtown Ferndale area is this really unassuming cafe. They serve all your standard cafe fare, but I've only had their breakfast, which is SCRUMPTIOUS. What separates them from other breakfast joints is their home style preparation. It's simple, comfort food with no frills. You won't find any modern style plating here, but the food certainly could belong in a more upscale breakfast place. As other Yelpers have noted, this place is pretty small. They do have an outdoor patio space, but even that only has a few tables. Once you step inside, you'll see a long bar setup on the right side and then 4-5 tables along the left side. It's oriented like a rectangle. So, during peak breakfast hours, I would imagine there would be quite a wait. I came around 1pm and it was pretty open up on the bar and only 2 tables were filled. Greeted my friend and we got ourselves comfortable up in the bar area. In front, there is the dessert display case that showcases all the freshly made sweets that the owner makes daily. I ended up going with the Monster omelet ($7.93) that was served with hash browns. The omelet was HUGE; probably an equivalent of 4 eggs, and more than enough for myself and some leftovers for a few days. Truly, exemplifying the name MONSTER omelet. :) In it, there was ham, bacon, sausage, skillet potatoes, green peppers, onions, and American cheese. It was STUFFED to the max, and to add to that, a generous amount of sausage gravy was topped. Eggs were so fluffy, and the filling was very well seasoned. The sausage gravy surprisingly wasn't heavy, and had the right smooth texture. As much as I loved the omelet, I couldn't finish more than a third of it. Hash browns were light, flaky, and nicely pan-fried. Not oily, and I loved it; it had been quite some time that I had such fresh hash browns. You can actually see the kitchen cooks grating them as ordered..now THAT'S cooked to order! Having eyed the dessert display case the entire meal, I had to take a piece of cake home, and ended up choosing the raspberry lemon cake with coconut flakes ($4.75). It was a huge slice, and nicely tart. For the amount of food you're getting and the "made from scratch" motto this place follows, the value is incredible. You can feed an army here, and you can taste the love and pride the owners put into this place. Husband and I enjoyed the leftovers later on. It's a small place, and a total mom and pop shop, and so worth coming if you're in the area. A total diamond in the rough!

A lot of talk here about the Mac Daddy omelette so I tried it. They were right, it is very good. Small place with a great feel. A little pricey but the food was good. I took and posted a few pics of the menu. I would go back to try lunch sometime.

Very cute diner. Only 4 booths in the place with bar seating and some spots outside. Service is quick and good. They actually have fresh fruit, which is a big plus for me! Breakfast is good but average, but the service and local charm make it a go back.

Wow when I think of a diner done right, I think of Hilton road cafe! It's cute, quaint and cozy, and the service is amazing. Also, they have outdoor seating which is a bonus! When you arrive, also check out the specials board towards the back of the restaurant for some different choices! When they make the avocado and shrimp omelette, you def. can't go wrong! I'm very partial to the country scramble, the sausage gravy they smother it in is simply divine! Also check out their house bread which is heavenly! The pumpkin is my favorite! You can't go wrong with this place and their prices!

This true hole-in-the-wall breakfast joint serves some mad plates of deliciousness. From their omelettes to French toast to pancakes, everything tastes great and comes out fresh. Their daily specials are unique and super tasty. I had a breakfast burrito which was hearty and filling, as well as fluffy blueberry pancakes. Our table also shared Cap'n crunch French toast, which we devoured. My only complaint is that because it's so small of a spot (4 tables, and 5-6 bar stools), it's hard to come with a large family or group, and you may also end up waiting for a while...although it's worth it. Also worth noting, they run out of specials because it's so popular, so go early or you're out of luck

Amazing, real, homemade food!!! Everything here is fresh and delicious!! Whether you're in the mood for breakfast or lunch you can find something from their diverse menu. This place doesn't have any of the pretentious hipsterness you'll find on Woodward. Just really good food, make sure to try their homemade bread, and get it grilled! Blueberry is my favorite: -) I'm almost afraid to tell people about this gem. Word gets out and they'll have ridiculous waits like all the other brunch spots!!

The food is AMAZING but the service is the absolute WORST. I keep going back for the food but every time I have went the past month the service has gotten worse and worse. My last visit: We wanted ten minutes to be greeted Saturday morning when we sat at the bar. We then gave the women our food and drink orders at the same time. She never got us drinks. The other waitress finally felt bad for us and came over and got us drinks. She even apologized for our waitress. Don't worry though..... I was still charged for the drink she NEVER brought me. I think I will just order carryout from now on.

I discovered this hidden gem in Ferndale. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and the Chicken Corn Chowder soup. They both were delicious. The staff was very friendly. If you are in the mood for some made-from-scratch cooking along with friendly staff, this is a restaurant you must visit!!!! I will be back.

This is my go to spot for brunches with my boyfriend. My personal favorite is the apple of my eye franchise toast, but he loves the nutty buddy French toast best. Everything I've tried here has been just what I was in the mood for.

Wow, wow, wow. Everything is homemade. Pies and housebread made in house. The omelettes and country skillets are ginormous. Super friendly service. Laid back and fun. Hospitality A+. A Ferndale Best kept secret.

Fun little spot off the Woodward corridor in Ferndale. The food was quality, came out quickly, and was delicious. My group came in late (2 pm and I believe they close at 3pm on weekends) and they were still full. We got a table soon enough but they had run out of many of their fun sounding specials. The coffee was really great and the staff very friendly. I plan on frequenting this spot.

Went there for brunch around noon and got the last open two-seater table. This place is quite small but worth the wait if you love breakfast food! Great Monte Crisco (their version of Monte Cristo) and biscuits and gravy was delicious as well. Now one of my favorite joints for breakfast!

If you believe that the best things come in small packages then this is that small package. I loved this lil hole in the wall. Its mostly for take out. There are two booths and a few seats at the counter. They have an abundance of desserts and the ladies are nice. It so small you can hear ever ones convo. I was with one of my besties and he was wondering where I found this place. go check it out dont be scared be amazed!!

Hilton Road Cafe is the gem I've been looking for! I found myself at Hilton Road Cafe for breakfast on a Saturday morning and got a table immediately. If you go on the weekends, order from the specials board! You won't regret it. I tried the Mac Daddy Omelette, which consisted of Mac and cheese, pulled pork, grilled onion, bacon, BBQ sauce, melted cheese and the fluffiest eggs I've ever eaten. After I took my first bite, I literally thought I died and went to heaven. And then there's their homemade bread. The types of bread they carry varies everyday, but make sure you try the pumpkin. You can choose I get your bread warmed or grilled... It's a nice touch to an already perfect meal. If you're looking for cooking that tastes like home and great hospitality, you've come to the right place.

Been here and gotten carry out several times now! It is good!! Lots of specials, and can't go wrong with their breakfast menu. It's cute and small, fully charming. Nothing really negative to say, but nothing has overly wowed me either... A consistently good spot!

My favorite breakfast spot! You simply MUST try their captain crunch french toast! Super delicious! And their omelets are the size of your head!! But I almost never order from the menu, because their specials are always just so amazing! It is a must try!

We walked in to smiling faces and warm greetings. I had the Hawaiian Omelette; pulled pork, veggies, pineapple, and a sweet barbecue sauce. Delicious! Our drinks were topped off as soon as they were emptied and the price was great.

The most amazing food. The owner has a real touch for cooking. A true hidden gem. The fish are phenomenal, stuffed peppers are great, quiche is to die for.....too many to list. You can't order a bad meal. There are only 4 tables and a counter but the wait is never long. Carryout is available if you don't wanna wait!

This place is good. I like the patio when it's nice outside...a little small, but it works. The specials are always good, but they run out often. Food sometimes lacks seasoning but what do you expect for under $10. Lunch specials are a great value (under $7) for soup/sandwich. It's very close to my house, so I do go here a lot, would I crave their food and travel for it? Probably not.

What a cute little place! I've been wanting to come here for breakfast for awhile. I've always heard good things from friends and yelp reviews. We had a Friday morning off, so we decided to stop in. I knew this place was small, but WOW. It is so tiny! I can't imagine what it's like on the weekends. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was really good. I ordered an omelette and my husband had the cinnamon raisin french toast. The food didn't stand out as anything amazing, but it was good solid breakfast food. I love the cafe though. The double swinging doors, the counter top w/ stools, the booths and all of the little knick-knacks make this place cozy and cute.

  • Rich S.

Solid diner food and friendly staff, and the portions are plentiful. The place is small and busy so lingering for brunch can be difficult (combined with the lack of bloody marys). If you're looking for a good breakfast with the family, this is a great choice.

Going without your breakfast? You're a soldier without his rifle, a model without her clothes, an astronaut missing his helmet. Breakfast is key to a strategic attack upon the day! Yet so many of us go off to war with the dull nine to five grind without proper reinforcements or preparations, and it's a damned shame, especially with excuses like Hilton Road Cafe. Ferndale doesn't lack for dishy breakfast options (Fly Trap, Toast, and Mimi's to name a few) but many of those on the Woodward strip get enormous weekend crowds for their total twelve tables. I swear the same early-risers show up to table lurk and make the rest of us jealous. Being off the main drag, Hilton Road Cafe may not be well-known to the breakfast clubbers. At least not for long. That's a good thing because this small business contains about four booths, two outdoor tables, and a string of seats at an old fashion counter that reminds me of a soda jerk. The interior is cozy without being tight, laden by more chicken memorabilia and knick-knacks than Pier One: Oklahoma City. It's all very charming and sustains the feeling of a country diner without getting too kitschy. Make sure you peek a look at the menu board where the day's specials are handwritten out. If you need glasses, like me, sometimes you have to get up close and personal to read the handwriting, or you can dare ask one of the spritely waitresses whether they can list off a few. I inevitably get torn to pieces trying to decide whether I want some specialty omelette, a delicious sweet waffle, or a savory alternative on the regular menu, which is far from shabby. You can find the full gamut of delectable meals on the everyday menu: loads of egg dishes, lots of pies and sweets freshly baked that say forget breakfast and jump straight to dessert, waffles, and more. I inevitably have a massive fit of indecision. Where do I attack first? France, Italy, Germany or Waffleville?! Food quality is top notch for good prices. Whipped up eggs are fluffy concoctions studded delicately by slices of well-prepared vegetables. I haven't run into a burnt pepper or a soggy piece of broccoli yet. Cheese is melted and well-folded in, rather than being baked on top with no distinctions throughout. The hash browns were pretty tasty, according to my beau, and the pies... let's just say the big slice of key lime that called our name was finished faster than it took the waitress to turn around and deliver our receipt. Breakfast needs to be hearty and filling, even if it's just orange slices and croissants. On that front, Hilton Road Cafe delivers amply. The crepes look promising and I really want to try the pancakes. Cursed healthiness and being waylaid by eggs. A drawback can be wait times, especially during the summer when everyone wants to chill out on the breezy front patio, a tiny and charming square, or hover inside. I understand relaxing but the queues can get a bit lengthy. I've waited 20 minutes for a table, though that was in the summer; standing outside wasn't so bad. I think the winter and autumn season is a lot quieter. They are also receptive to takeout orders and seating before closing. When the beau and I appeared late on Sunday, they courteously told us how long they were open and when their last order was. Considering we're fast eaters when need be, it wasn't a problem, but the respectfulness for our time and theirs was much appreciated. Bad: Parking situation in the area is limited due to a grumpy neighbouring business who refuses to share lot space. Expect to circle around on the weekends.

I will tell you when I was first introduced to the HRC, I was blown away. Besides waiting for a half hour just to sneak into one of the booths on inside of the place... all of the wait soon disappeared once I was treated to one of the tastiest breakfasts in all around the area. Grilled pumpkin bread? Caramel Apple Bread? Lemon Poppy Seed? Are you kidding me? Don't just stop with those casual 2 pieces that you bring, go ahead and bring me a few extra loaves to go! I love love love their omelette selections. Always fresh, always changing, and always so filling. I have not been able to eat an entire meal here. It makes me happier knowing that I'm going to have an excellent breakfast for the next day too! The best time to go is during the work week. Because
