Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Not the biggest fan. Great atmosphere but the food was not that good especially for the price.

Fast service. Big portions. Great cheesecake! Cheese ravioli has meat sauce though, so not veggi.
(4)Jane V.
On top of the poor service, our antipasti salad was served to us with a dishwasher's glove in it. The guy making the pizzas was on his cell phone arguing very loudly. the lady who apparently owns the place never came over to apologize for the glove and seemed unphased by the other goings on. When we left, a dishwasher was out back goofing off. Will never return.

Up there towards the worst experience I have had. Went up there with a few people thinking this would be a good place for dinner. We saw pur waitress 3 times over the course of an hour. When we asked for the bill didn't see her for another 20 minutes. The food was terrible. The pizza was burnt to a crisp and dripping with grease.
(1)Jon G.
Terrible, terrible service. Love the patio, but I mean comon'. Order everything the first time you see your waitress because they ain't coming back.
(1)Adam K.
Should have known better than to try this place again, due to the subpar service they are known for. Love the patio and it's a nice spring evening. So we decided to stop in for a pizza. After waiting for 20 minutes to have the server return to us, we put money down for our drinks and left. Told the owner on the way out she has a serious service problem. Nothing will ever change with this place. If you don't mind waiting forever and like to ask for things repeatedly, this is your place. Otherwise, you can do much better.
(1)Linda T.
This place is always crowded! I'm not sure if I ever had any of the entrees there, just the pizza, which was pretty good. There's both seating indoors & a patio (I think covered). I never sat outside. I've heard this place is an old neighborhood institution & has been around forever! Oh yeah, & they like decorating for the holidays, big time! Located on the northeast corner of Woodward & 9 Mile.

Como's has a few things going for it, but mostly, it's not so great. They have an outstanding patio (that can get really full on weekends and REALLY full on the first Wednesday of the month). Drinks are really hard to come by on busy nights. Pricey too. Pizza is great. The rest of the food? Yeah... not so much.
(2)Mark H.
Good but uninspired and expensive ($$$). Service is exceptionally slow. Patio music is way too loud in order to overcome traffic noise; the bar is nice.
(2)Rese D.
Open late! I had their Toasted Ravioli and pizza, enjoyed both! Pasta is okay. I just didn't realize the dining area didn't have any non-smoking tables, unless I didn't see it. My boyfriend works late, so it's hard looking for late night spots, not the healthiest, but having the option is a plus.
(4)L. B. S.
We had dinner there last night then walked to one of the entertainment spots. We were very happy with our dinners (veal scaloppini and spaghetti) and loved the wine (Red Rock merlot). The fresh baked rolls were wonderful. Some other reviews complain about the service, that does not surprise me since no waitress acknowledged us at first and I had to scout a wine list from a distant table. Finally we stopped a waitress and she then proceeded to do a great job. The chocolate cake for dessert was outstanding. Overall, we are looking forward to going back!

I'd give Como's four stars, but they seem to suffer from the same hubris as The Bosco down the street. They jumped from corner family Italian to "you'll need a reservation" and not-family-friendly a little too fast. The pizza *is* great, as are almost all of the pasta dishes I've had. In fact, the food is good enough that I've only placed them "on hold," instead of blacklisting them. What got them in trouble with me was a large family gathering we were to have there. We made reservations that were not honored when we got there. How do you say "not cool" in Italian? I'm sure there's a hand gesture for that.
(3)Art G.
Went here and got pizza. Order was messed up twice and we just decided to accept the second pizza and was comped a drink, dessert and half off for the inconvenience. Pizza was good, but I don't think I would venture past this on the menu. Won't likely be back and it looks like there are much better options in Ferndale, but going to sit out on the patio with some pizza and beer...not going to be too disappointed so long as your expectations aren't too high.
(3)Monica A.
The food is very overpriced for the quality of food. The menu is misleading and you will leave disappointed.
(1)Ronda N.
Como's is a 0-star rating. The only tolerable feature is the outside seating. My friends like the patio which is why I put up with going to this dump. Other than that, the food/drinks are awful and the service is satisfactory at best.
(1)Justis G.
The food is always good, a lot of people also don't know they deliver. I've ordered food regularly from them and they've even delivered in the worst snow storms. (I tipped them well lol) everytime I go, I get the breaded steak bites and toasted ravioli, can't go wrong! Service is always good, and the place always feels comfortable.
(5)B A.
Whenever I'm nearby I have to eat here. The pizza is great and we love the patio area! Just hate the traffic and parking of Ferndale. A must try!
(4)Sondra B.
I LOVE Como's pizza. I love their giant outdoor area so you can sit outside with your pizza and beer on a summer night, and sometimes with some live music!
(4)Kim B.
Friday night (2/6/15) we had a terrible experience. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and frazzled. We went to dinner with another couple and even before we placed our orders, we requested two separate bills, which the waitress said would not be a problem. Fast forward an hour and a half through poor service, an under-cooked burger and a wrong dish, our toddlers were now completely over sitting in a restaurant and we we're ready to leave as soon as possible. We asked for our bills, after waiting unnecessarily long (45 minutes to be exact), she gave us two separate bills with our combined dinners split evenly (mind you, my husband and I were with our two kids, which should have been on one bill, and the other couple on another bill - significantly different in price). We waited an additional 20 minutes for our change. After my husband and I paid and received our receipt, which the waitress returned with less change then there was supposed to be based on her miscalculation, she then quickly informed us that our bill was more than she originally noted on the tab and then disappeared with no apologies. I could not believe how terrible the entire evening was. We will NOT be back.
(1)Mary W.
Always a great place to eat and hang out. PIZZA IS FANTASTIC! I don't know why it doesn't have 5 stars. It's a pizza place people, not the Eiffel Tower.
(5)Blaise B.
I've only been here once, but I don't understand the poor reviews. My boyfriend is mildly obsessed with their pizza so we've been meaning to go. I wasn't in the mood for pizza, so I got the fried shrimp dinner. It was slightly on the pricy side, but the number of courses you get is so ridiculous that it's justified. First you get a bread basket that is outageously large for two people. The little slices of bread were delicious with butter, but they come in little sandwich bags, which was off-putting for me. Then you get a salad, which most people would probably like but after I picked off everything I didn't like (olives, tomatoes, and chickpeas) I was left with just lettuce and dressing. It needed cheese. THEN you get a tiny plate of spaghetti. So random. It was good, but I like barely any sauce on my spaqhetti, and this had a ton, so I only ate a little of it. THEN you get your meal, which for me consisted of breaded shrimp (DELICIOUS), green beans (DELICIOUS), and fries (steak fries, which I'm not a huge fan of. Next time I'll get the redskins instead). Overall, I'm looking forward to coming back and eating outside this summer. I'll probably stick with the shrimp dinner for the foreseeable future.

The good: Staff was very friendly and sitting on the patio was pleasant. The bad: they were egregiously understaffed and everything took a REALLY long time. Even getting a glass of water. The UGLY: the FOOD. Everyone in our party agreed almost immediately that we'd never come back. Mine was just very poorly executed, but another dish at our table was so disgusting I still can't believe we paid for it... And it wasn't cheap by any means. Never ever again.
(1)Katie S.
The manager who decided to make Pride Fest a server's first day must be crazy. We were forced to take a sleeping baby out of his stroller because "strollers aren't allowed on the patio" even though there were multiple strollers around us. We sat for 20 minutes without a server approaching us, then we flagged someone down. After ordering 3 beers, 1 iced tea, and 2 milks, we waited another 30 minutes before receiving our beverages. Our waiter told us the bar was "backed up" even though we watched other parties sit down, order, and receive their drinks before us. We were all planning to order food, but decided against it after waiting another 30 minutes for sugar. After finally receiving our bill, which was screwed up, I left a poor tip. Sorry. I know servers don't make much, and I NEVER tip badly, but this girl only had three tables, so there was no excuse. After seeing what her tip was, our server approached to tell us it was her first day. Unacceptable. Train your staff before putting them on the floor alone. It's not fair to them, or your customers.
(1)Natalie S.
The service sucks! To many people not doing there job. Including some people who look like they have important jobs at this place. Those who I give credit to, in fact were so overwhelmed that they took forever to complete any task. I was ready to walk out on my bill. Took almost 20 min to get it. I felt sorry for my waitress. She was so distressed that I knew if I walked out on her, karma would have kicked me in the ass. My appetizers were ok. Drinks were not that impressive. Great location and awesome place to catch a midnight snack. I would love to eat they're pizza. However I don't know if I want to come back. Mega disappointed! I expected for better. Comos.... Get it together
(1)Jenni H.
The most redeeming quality of Comos is that they can host a large group, even at pretty last minute notice. Nothing special about the pizza; pretty much what you'd get at any generic pizza places--the prices are reasonable though, especially if you're feeding a large group. Like others have said, the service is meh, at best. But, when the patio is open (and not too crowded) and you can order your own drinks, it's definitely a good place for people-watching.
(2)Mike L.
Note to the owners of Como's. You have the best pizza I have ever eaten. Without a doubt it is #1. But your crazy service, and very uneven kitchen is going to bring this place down. You need to get a new menu and bring the prices for pastas down to reality. Hire a real chef so that the food comes out consistently. Simplify the menu and only have things on there that you can actually cook. Hire servers that will stay for more than a few weeks and learn how to serve. Serve bread where it is appropriate. If you continue going down the path you are on, you are done for. A restaurant cannot survive with as many one star reviews as you have. If it were up to me I would probably fire everybody but the pizza cooks, change the name and start over. Seriously. You cannot survive with this many one star reviews! I would prefer you to stay in business so I can continue to eat your pizza... Now for a note to potential customers of Como's. DON'T EAT ANYTHING BUT THE ROUND, THIN PIZZA. NO PASTAS, NOTHING FROM THE KITCHEN. Get pepperoni on the pizza. And the antipasto salad is usually good. But nothing else if you want to enjoy your meal!!!
(5)Vickie R.
The bright neon sign on top of the building was the bait, and we took it. It definitely smelled musty, kind of like the smell of a bath towel that has been used one too many times and is due for a good washing (or the garbage). My chicken noodle soup was mediocre at best. The Caesar salad was pretty good. The bread was fresh and of the right color. I thought by coming to an Italian restaurant that I can/would get good homemade pasta, but they're not fooling anyone. Each of the raviolis in the Half raviolis/Half spaghetti were perfectly flat and square (clearly they were frozen), as opposed to homemade ones, where no single ravioli should ever look exactly the same as the next. The meat sauce was also just OK. A friend of mine got the Chicken Columbo, I had a small taste, and it was actually pretty darn good. The chicken was juicy and it had a great sauce. Here's what I don't understand, the menu lists items such as Chicken Siciliano twice, in the same section (House Specialties), with 2 different prices. And no one decided to correct this before putting it online? Do they care that little about the restaurant? This place needs a serious overhaul. It smells bad, the decor is super outdated, and the menu isn't even correct. There are so many other places in Ferndale to try, I don't think I'll be coming back to Como's until changes have been made.
(2)Janice D.
The food gets a five star.... Service gets a two star... So overall I'll give them a four star

Had our January networking event for detroitnet.org here, as well as a couple of stops in beforehand to firm up details and make sure everything was solid, so you've got a blended review. From a "stopping in for a drink" perspective, it's great. Love the dark wood bar, love the beer selection, and the bartenders can make a cocktail. From a "jumping in to get a bite" perspective, you get the pizza here. You completely ignore the rest of the menu, and you get the pizza. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200...get the pizza. From a "running a networking event" perspective, I was *very* pleased. A new GM (also named David) reached out to me via LinkedIn late last year as he was getting ready to take over, because he'd read about my group's networking events and wanted to get us there. We went back and forth a bit, and I stopped in to talk with him and check out the private room upstairs. Snippet of my review of our event at: detroitnet.org/index.php… "The venue couldn't have been any better. The private room upstairs at Como's was just simply perfect for our group. The scattered hightop tables were great for quick conversations, and some of the wiser heads moved to the other end of the room pretty quickly to take advantage of the big comfy couches." ...and that's accurate. The room upstairs has a private bar, well stocked, lots of high top tables, plenty of rectangular tables, and some big comfy leather couches off at the far end of it. Didn't have a single complaint from anyone, and everyone that showed up gave us props for finding yet another cool place to have one of our events.
(4)Kellie B.
I will say they have pretty good pizza, on the other hand their service isn't very good. My family ate their entire large pizza before my stuffed chicken breast came out of the oven. Clearly a servers mistake but never addressed no apologies for long wait, complimentary dessert, or acknowledgment. When I asked for a box for it she asked why I wasn't going to eat it and I explained that my family had already ate and was ready to leave. We prefer to get carry out but even that can be rough. Often times we stand at counter while servers watch us. Understandably they arnt working carry out but we could Atleast be addresses. Redeeming quality = Ranch. I could out that s*** on everything !!!
(3)Celina M.
My bf and I wanted to try out Comos since we've only ever been there to drink in the past, needless to say we probably won't be back to eat. The overall atmosphere and dining areas are dark, outdated and a little dingy. I will say the service was great, our waitress was super nice and got our drinks and all of our food out in great timing. We ordered the tenderloin tips as an appetizer, wanted them cooked medium but came out quite medium rare, still somewhat decent though. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was why I'm giving a 2 star review. All the dinners come with a salad, spaghetti and a veggie (which is nice for the price you're paying) after ordering we got our salads, which both came on dirty bowls. Next came a tiny plate of pre-made spaghetti and canned sauce that had no flavor or substance to it. Then the entrees came and disappointed as well. The "veggies" we're green beans and potatoes and were soggy, flavorless and gross. My BBQ chicken was okay, my boyfriend had to cover his pork chops in Tabasco sauce to give them any kind of flavor just so he could get half the meal down.
(2)Jenn A.
I can think of worse places to get stuck in the rain. The outside bar is good for that. Being able to watch it rain and sit outside is always a plus for me. And the Pizza? YUM. Friendly staff and patrons top off the experience. If you go, sit at the bar. Make some new friends, and have some laughs. We always do.
(5)Stephanie G.
Horrible service: we had to find our server to get the bill, then it took 20 minutes to cash out. Horrible food raw cold chicken in the chicken marsala. This was a good restaurant at one time. What happened? I will never go back.
(1)Katrina Z.
Gross, this place is absolutely disgusting. Do not eat here, their kitchen is filthy! No sort of health codes are being followed by any means!
(1)Nickie P.
They really do have GREAT pizza. Every time I've ordered from there, the toppings are fresh and the cheese is delicious. They also have a really yummy roaster garlic appetizer, and when the have cannolis they are delish. The outside deck is great for the summer. The only issue is that the service can be hit or miss, sometimes the servers can be very slow. I prefer to order carry out and enjoy my yummy pizza at home!
(3)Sheila M.
Walking on the street around 10:30 pm, Como's ambiance lured me in. I was so innocent, so unsuspecting then. The patio was decorated with hanging lights and had a DJ playing Latin/70s/80s dance music. It looked like a fun place to have a drink and chill. Unfortunately, only after sitting at a table did I search for Como's using my Yelp app. Our waitress began her introductions with a guilt trip when she saw Yelp on my phone. She insisted that people only went on the site to give negative reviews, and promised we'd be good in her hands. Accepting this, I ordered a blended strawberry margarita and some fries. The fries were as good as any: thick-cut steak fries, crisp on the outside and mealy on the inside. However, the margarita was disappointing; it came in a tiny 8-oz plastic cup (the kind you'd use at the water cooler), was watery and cloyingly sweet, and barely produced a buzz. $6? Not worth it, really. Service started out great; the waitress was attentive and brought our stuff out promptly. She also checked on us once afterwards. But then, it seemed like we spent a good 20-30 mins watching the eclectic (read: weird) crowd starting to infiltrate the little dance floor in front of the DJ. We watched as a short girl (3 in the face) was repeatedly rejected by a guy in a beret, who halted his strange dance moves every time she showed up. He often performed the "beard rub of despair" as she grinned at him and motioned for him to mirror her seductive body movements. Unable to take the hint, she flirted more aggressively using various techniques as the butt grab, the chest-out full-court block, and the unwanted mandatory kiss. After 20 minutes, her desperation was disturbing, as was his indirect rejection of her advances. We wanted to leave. But where was our loyal server? Nowhere to be found. We discussed dine-and-dash as a potential solution 4-5 times, but the conscience won out again. It wasn't until we got the attention of the manager that we were able to pay our bill and speedwalk the hell out of there. Nothing special.
(2)Eowyn K.
The pizza is good, but not great. I'm not sure what kind of pizza other people have had if they think this is great. It certainly does not justify the cost. The bread sticks are very good (I recommend over the pizza actually) and have a good garlicy flavor. Drinks are fair. The service both times I have gone was terrible. They had a very difficult time with groups whether the size is four or a large group. The first time I was at Comos someone at our table had their meal/pizza lost. When it finally made it at the table, 45 mintues after everyone was done eating, it had the wrong toppings. Eventually they did not charge him for it but we had to say something about the situation before this happened. The outdoor patio is nice and a good place for a couple drinks.
(2)brad P.
Once again, I ask myself, why do I come here? The pizza is borderline great, but does that make up for the service? I cringe when friends that don't live in Ferndale say they want to come here, the place is DIRTY, in four years I have only had the same server twice (most don't last more than a few months, and the rest wouldn't cut it at a Coney Island,) the salad consists of the core of dirty iceberg lettuce that hasn't been cleaned and some of the most oily Greek dressing I have ever had the displeasure of eating. But for some reason, the PIZZA, I keep coming back. Do yourself a favor and call ahead and pick up a pizza to go!
(2)Maria B.
I'm very disappointed... My boyfriend and I were having a great time at first. We both ordered the Perch Dinner which on the menu stated $13.99. Then, to our surprise... instead of making us aware before the food came out... Our waitress brings us the perch and tells us that the menu was wrong and we are really being charged $18.00 for them and proceeded to ask if that was ok? Then after we told her how wrong that was to do to someone, she said that the manager wouldn't change it. This was our first time here and we will never be going back. I've seen a lot of picky reviews and I have never actually written one but this was absolutely terrible to tell someone they have to pay more after their food arrives. It wasn't our fault the menu was wrong and our waitress didn't really seem to care... Sucks, cause we are usually great tippers.
(1)Marisa S.
Love to sit outside here in the summer and grab a pizza and drinks! It's a plastic cup type place. Music is often so-so but it's a chill place to gather with friends. I have never eaten inside, but I'm a big ambiance person and walking through the restaurant doesn't make me want to.
(3)B N.
I like this za, but the mobile app doesn't work aftet 45 min, and I called 45 min in to check and they said 30 min from my call. more like an hour even though we're 5 min away.. Como's- learn to under promise and over deliver duh. And, if you order broccoli on your za, expect only 3 cuts of broccoli stems. No florets.I had to change my 2 stars to a 1. This sucks.
(1)Holley R.
It was Saturday night and the restaurant not too too busy. Took 15 minutes to even get a glass of water. I asked if the had cannelloni and the waiter said yes we have cannoli, would you like to order dinner first. Should have known right then to just find somewhere else to go. Then tried to order cannelloni only to find they were out. Ordered gnocchi but instead they brought potato pebbles with a tomato flavored water. Forgot our bread, never asked how was everything. Friend had ravioli which tasted no better than the frozen bagged ravioli that I get at the grocery store. This has been their last chance for redemption as I have given them more than enough chances and yet each time left feeling disappointed. Next time I will be going to Maria's where I know the service and food is better.
(1)Nina V.
Amazing food with decent customer service. I love the atmosphere there!
(4)Lauren H.
Their pizza is the bessssttt! I love their patio, great outdoor seating and great outdoor bar too!!
(4)tina w.
Like several places along Woodward (such as Pasquale's), it's my feeling that Como's has a steady stream of new customers (or victims) and they really don't care too much if their customers are satisfied. I have been to Como's dozens of times, and the experience has been hit & miss . Lately, though, the service & food has been worse than ever & I have finally decided to avoid any future visits. If it were not for their location, this place would have gone out of business long ago.
(2)Richard F.
I was very disappointed at the bad food, inattention and poor service. We were a party of four and we were in a hurry to eat because we had theater tickets. We told the host and the waitress. Still service was horribly slow. When the meals were finally delivered, the waitress merely guessed and gave my Chicken Parmigiana to another person and his eggplant parmigiana to me. But the side dishes we both ordered were on the wrong plates too. So even though we swapped plates, neither of us had the right items anyway. The Chicken was the consistency of a ceiling tile. Others commented that the food wasn't bad, but I certainly did not enjoy the chicken and the side dishes that I hadn't ordered. I tried to flag down our waitress, but she had gone into hiding. This place has seen better times.
(1)John K.
This place sucks.... How on Earth do they keep winning "Best Pizza" awards from Real Detroit or Metro Times? Average at best... If you are even half way decent looking dude, don't show your face on Wednesdays....You are going to get yerself a facefull of "lesbian hate" I actually get pissed thinking about the money I have spent there.....ridiculous. Horrible service every time, super surprised they are still in business.
(1)C H.
I wouldn't recommend this place for the food, that's for sure. The chicken I ordered was rubbery, the veggies way too buttery, and my drink was terrible.
(1)Leslie C.
I think Como's should go on restaurant rescue. I had the stuffed shells, they tasted funny like there was an extra chemical in the filling. They weren't plated very well, no sides just a the shells on a dinner plate topped with a basic marinara sauce. Wasn't very appetizing. Two people got fish and chips and it was pretty obvious it was a gross frozen fish patty. It was good piping hot but as soon as it cooled a little it was a rubber cube. I know because I tried some of my husbands as I was waiting for them to redo my shells - everyone got served before the server realized he forgot to put in my order. My sisters boyfriend got a lazy looking chop salad, the kind I do for myself out of whatever's in the fridge. The bread we ordered for the table had mold on it. The server was slow and smelled like weed although he was polite. The pizza still looks good (and safe) and will be the only thing I'm ordering from now on. Como's still has a great location and the patio is awesome during the summer. I don't want to see them struggle because the food could be a lot better.
(2)Jade R.
Walking in to the restaurant and looking around does not match the prices on the menu. In short, you expect a cheap hamburger/bar food joint but the menu selection and prices does not properly reflect the atmosphere. That being said, the food was decent and the service was good but I'd rather enjoy a nicer atmosphere for the money I paid. My husband and I shared a mini pizza and a calabrese salad. Pizza was good, calabrese salad was fresh, no complaints there.
(3)Richard W.
That I would go back after the last several episodes indicates perhaps psychopathy on my part. But feeling a desire for pasta, I walked over: since I was alone I offered to sit at the bar. As I sat, the bar tender took out a bucket of ice to the patio. And never returned. After 5 minutes, I thought I know what I want and how to mix the drink & punch in the order, maybe I should do it myself. After 10 minutes I stayed just to see how long it would take for someone to notice a customer. Finally after 17 minutes the manager noticed me and asked if anyone had taken my order. Take my advice, if you want Italian in Ferndale, go to Western Market or Holiday market, buy the sauce, sausage, and pasta, or a frozen pizza, some wine or beer, and do it yourself at home. You'll be happier.

One way into my heart is through bottomless mimosas so when I saw a sign on the door saying Sunday brunch offered such, I knew it was destiny that I grab a female companion and make my way in later on that week. We were both fairly stoked about the plan. It was a lively time on 9 Mile due to all the festivals so sitting on their awesome patio and people watching sounded and was great. Sticking with the mimosas, conversation, and people watching would have been best practice hindsight but noooo, we decided we also needed food and that is where things started going downhill. Brunch here runs you more money then some of the other great spots nearby that have quality ingredients. This in and of itself would be permissible but, when you shed out ten dollars for "three" eggs, two pieces of sausage, and toast it better come out right and be pretty damn scrumtrulescent. Neither of those criteria occurred. We're talking regular cheap loaf of bread toast, sausage that tastes like a mix of Slim Jim and cat food**, and three eggs that were actually pretty good --only I ordered them over medium and they came out scrambled as well as looking like they must have been scavenged from a hummingbirds nest, tiny portion! It just wasn't a good brunch, at all, and I ended up looking longingly at tables who had ordered pizza. I should have recognized that absolutely no one else was ordering anything off the brunch menu outside of the mimosas. Despite loudly griping to a few other patrons about hating her job and Como's, our server was actually pretty decent with us. She kept the mimosas coming and was pleasant, though disinterested. Service was no where near phenomenal but it was better than the taste of our dish. I'll try pizza from here in the future but will never take anyone here for brunch again, period. Mimosas and za forever! **You may ask, how do you know what cat food tastes like? Well, I was once a child and an inquisitive one at that. I'll just leave the rest to your imagination.

I've haven't eaten any food here since I was like 15 yrs old & my surprise bday party was here so can't really comment on that ... I have been here twice in the last month for a quick drink before going to comedy shows a block over at Go Comedy. Each time I was here it was so empty (Saturday & Weds nights.) I didn't mind the emptiness bc I was just there with a friend to pass time, we weren't trying to find a party or anything. Really quick service and it was soooo clean in here -even the bathroom. For that style of restaurant you expect at least the bathrooms to be slightly gross but NOPE- it was spotless through this whole place! If you are looking for a quiet spot to grab a drink then this place is fine enough!

This was my first time going here -- Basically the first question would I go here again?! MAYBE if someone asked me but I might suggest somewhere else. The waitress was nice but the group that we were in; maybe she could have used another people. Yes she did keep our drinks full which were only pop but when it was time to get the order right -- well it took it a little long. She actually forget about my order -- it wasn't very big order at all (Chicken strip kids meal with an additional side of fries), so my first took a long to time; when we she apologize for not bring my stuff, then I told her I'm ok. So second issue I had -- since i had a small order which was basically under $5 and i give a $20; she then asked for change -- yes, please! Why did I wait like 15mins for my change; oh i wasn't leaving and did that to a couple of other people in my group as well. Come now -- get your stuff together. They had music -- KEY WORDS "HAD MUSIC." Some band was performing and they boom their amp scarying everyone -- so for the remaining of the night, they just turned the TV's up.

The last time I went, I asked the server to wipe off the dirty table, and he did - with the filthiest rag I've ever seen. I walked out.

Location, Location. Without that, this place would flounder. They should be featured on Kitchen Nightmare's they are that bad. But we still come here because of the nice patio in the summer, and the pizza is fine. Oberon and Fat Tire on draft, that's cool! Your service might be bad, but hey, you might get a free pizza out of it!
(2)Dave K.
Well, it would of been 4 stars, but the service sucked. Nothing overwhelming but I thought the Pizza was really good. We were there with 6 people (my wife, 3 daughters and grandson). My wife and I had pizza, my 2 youngest daughters split a chicken tenders and fries and my oldest daughter had Chicken Alfredo (I believe). My wife loves this place (only for pizza), and it was the 1st time I was there. We tried the toasted ravilolis, but they are nothing more then a flat mozzerella stick. The pizza was great and I would of finished, but I was annoyed that the waiter was so slow, so put half of the pie in a carryout tray to eat at home... The bill cames to $70+ as they added a gratuity at the bottom of the bill as we had 6. Needless to say, although the pizza was good, I could get pizza that good for far less....

I am only giving Como's one star because I have been there twice (my bad, I know) and the first time was enjoyable. Maybe because I was drunk and my meal was paid for by someone else, but that is beside the point. I was happy with Como's during my first visit, back in September 2012. My group and I had a bit of a wait (it was during the DIY festival, so that was to be expected) but we were finally seated at a great table outdoors. Our group got a large pizza with feta, spinach, artichokes, sundried tomato and mushroom and a few pitchers of beer. Noise level was great, service was great and the food was great. Flash forward to January 2013. Wow. What a terrible turnaround. A friend and I went on a Wednesday night at 6 p.m. When the waitress came to the table I asked if she had a drink menu. She said no, put down two glasses of water and walked away. Ummm...there is a full bar on the other side of the restaurant. I HIGHLY doubt they "don't have a drink menu". When we finally ordered and our food came, we asked for more water (since there "wasn't a drink menu") to which the waitress snapped, "Well can you hand me your glass?" YIKES. I wasn't impressed by the food this time. I could have made a better pizza at home using cardboard and spaghetti sauce. To top everything off, we had an army of Como's employees (literally six to eight people) standing back by the kitchen and awkwardly staring at our table and the other two or three occupied tables in the restaurant. I love feeling like an animal at a zoo! All in all...Would not recommend.

ZERO STARS . . . ACK!!! Last night was my first and last time at this HORRIBLE restaurant. Dirty, disgusting, old and tired, which describes the restaurant, the staff AND the food. What is it with Metro Detroiters voting this place 'the best'??! Apparently, people who like this place have never been anywhere else outside of Metro Detroit. I knew we were getting together here as a group of friends, after cocktails elsewhere (also horrible), so being a vegan, I looked up their menu online and figured I could piece together a salad and some side veggies or something. How the hell do you screw up a salad?! Not sure, but they did. I also ordered the sauteed Portobello mushrooms, after telling the server I was vegan. She brought them to me smothered in cheese. Hardly any mushrooms, roasted red peppers from a jar, cheese and balsamic vinegar . . . ack! Then they have the balls to charge $8.00 for a tiny little dish with maybe three pieces of mushroom. Had to settle on some french fries just to get something to eat, since we had been drinking and were starving. I will never set foot in this place again. Extremely disappointing and truly pathetic. They need to blow this place up and start from scratch. It's too bad, since the location is primo. Como's is a waste of space. Horrible atmosphere, horrible food, horrible service. Don't waste your hard-earned money or your time at this hot mess of a place.

The service was HORRIBLE. I doubt the Bloody Mary had any alcohol in it! The food tasted microwaved. We looked for our server for 20 minutes because we needed to pay our bill. We found her eating on the other side of the patio. Her explanation for lack of service was because " Iam tired and pregnant" and "we are over worked and work 12 hour shifts". Well to the management you should maybe hire more people and hire people that know how to clear a plate and not rip my credit out of my hand. Will never come here again ! I was friends from all over Oakland county and they were disgusted!!!!

What else is there to say that has not been typed by dozens of others here. It is ok. Pizza is not too bad, very skimpy on the toppings and cheese. Tables are typically sticky and the plastic cups for beverages are too old and too nasty for them to keep using.
(2)Gregory S.
Slow night, only patrons in the dining area, and I ordered a shrimp pasta type meal, and what do they do? They bring me pasta with sauce, but minus the shrimp. Basically I got some Chef Boyardee for Como's price. The waiter said it was the cook, and they only gave me like a buck or two off, and I don't send food back, so it was what it was, but I won't ever go back.

It's been awhile since we've dined here but last night we had a family dinner and it was nice. Not spectacularly mind blowing but nice. First I need to say that our server, Frank was AMAZING! Really nice guy, extremely attentive and all around fabulous. The thing that was disappointing was the food. It seems to be very overpriced for the quality. I think the pizza is competitively priced for the area and quality so I had no complaint about that. The younger crowd at our table seemed to enjoy it although my son said that there was something "off" about the crust. Dishes at our table ranged from $10 - $20 and for the amount and quality of food we received, it just wasn't justifiable. My lasagna was lukewarm and it really looked and tasted like a small brick of hardened ricotta. It wasn't bad, I've just had better and cheaper elsewhere. The ribs smelled and looked great but I could tell my meat eaters weren't enthused. Caesar salads were $2.29 extra and they were DOUSED with dressing and maybe 6 small croutons. Not appetizing. Drinks were also an issue. $7 for a drink that was crammed full of ice. 3 sips and it was gone. At least we had a soft drink and water pitcher on the table. I have been coming to Comos for at least 20 years or more and each time is different from the last. No consistency. I can't say that I want to come back more often because the prices vs. quality is just not there. I may come back once or twice in the summer for the patio--it is beautiful. Will probably just stick to pizza.

I used to go to Como's often during the summer months to sit out on their large patio along 9 mile and Woodward, enjoy some beers, have some pizza, and just relax.I took my then fiance here for a dinner before a Magic Bag concert last December. The waiter who served us had a pretty nasty attitude, like we were inconveniencing him by asking for things like "drinks." I ordered a tall beer, and he came back informing me that they in fact didn't serve the beer that I ordered. So I ordered another one and waited. And waited. Even my fiance, who only ordered a coke, didn't have hers yet. So he comes back with a short beer that was not the beer I ordered. I didn't feel like waiting forever again, so I just drank the beer and ordered dinner. We chose the caesar salad and a small round deep dish pizza. After waiting another 30 minutes, our salad finally arrived along with our pizza. It's pretty standard to serve salads/appetizers before the entree is served. And the pizza was totally wrong. It was hand tossed round instead of deep dish, and the toppings were wrong. By this time we were going to be late for our show, so we just dealt with the pizza but asked for a discount on the bill since it was wrong. Waiter argued about it with us, and when the bill finally came he pulled out a $5 from his tips "for our trouble." I'm assuming the reason he did this was so that he didn't get in trouble with management by putting the discount on the bill. Very very strange. Our second trip was yesterday. I went with my wife and we had two small children with us. It was a nice day and we wanted to hang out on the patio and have pizza and drinks. We were informed right away that they were understaffed and to bear with them. We went out on the patio, they were busy but there were still plenty of empty seats available. We sat and it took forever for someone to come and get our drink order. I ordered a Bell's Oberon. She came back and said that they didn't carry Oberon (come on, every place in MI carries it, and she should have known that to begin with). She mentioned that they had Sam Adam's summer ale, so I got that instead. Came back AGAIN saying that they didn't carry that one either. By that time I asked her to just bring me a regular Sam Adams draft, and ordered a caesar salad, small round deep dish pizza, and eggplant parmesan for my wife. Waited another 30 minutes before I got my beer, which was a bottle instead of the draft I ordered. We didn't get our food until an hour after we ordered, and again the salad came at exactly the same time as the rest of the food. The salad and the pizza were great, I think these are the only two things this place does well. The eggplant parmesan was disgusting, strong words which I don't often say in reviews. The eggplant was obviously frozen, and it looked like it had been cooked, put in the fridge, and then fried again to heat it up. It was also fried in oil that must have had fish in it, because it had a very strong fish taste an odor. For a dish that costs $14.95 I expect better. At least they didn't put up a fight when I asked them to take that off the bill. The pizza here is decent, just order it to go. The service is slow, and at times rude. Seems like management needs to hire more people or schedule better. Food other than the pizza seems to be very hit or miss, and we've experienced more misses. Charging premium prices for frozen food is not a good way to earn repeat business. This is the last time I'll be going here unless things drastically change. There are a lot of good restaurants in Ferndale right now like One Eyed Betty's, Imperial, Fly Trap, and the WAB. Como's just doesn't cut it compared to it's neighbors. If I could rate the pizza by itself, I'd give it 4 stars. It's cooked well and they have a nice variety of toppings. But the restaurant experience totally eclipses the one good thing they have going on.
(1)Rina B.
I love their pizza but the service is always horrible and slow.
(3)Devin C.
You know that neighborhood place that everyone knows about but every single time you go there your drinks are permanently unfilled and you wish you had gone somewhere else? Yet somehow you end up going there again. And again. This is that place. I've been to Como's numerous times and each visit was progressively worse. Really, really SLOW service on the weekends. One time I came here at the urging of a friend at 1am. Sad to say, we were served a BLACK, inedible pizza. They didn't even offer to fix it. I am not exaggerating. I thought the pizza was a piece of coal that was pounded out and had pepperoni and mushrooms put on it. However, this is one of the places in this area that serves food late, is near tons of bars, and has a bar inside. In Ferndale? Jackpot. Avoid this place...if you're sober.
(2)Jenn M.
If I could give this place no stars, I totally would. Sorry to say, I didn't look this place up on yelp before deciding to go (it was kindof a last minute thing). I went with some friends because we were in Ferndale walking around, the weather was nice and we saw that they have a huge patio. First off, it was lunchtime, so I'm kindof wishing we would have gone when it was dark so I couldn't notice how disgusting everything is on their patio. Concrete floor has oily pizza stains everywhere, trash all over the ground, an overall tattered, dirty look. So, the service was extremely bad. Waited long periods of time for everything and really had little to no attention from our server in general. I really wish I was exaggerating. When we finally did get our food, unfortunately I ordered the rib sandwich. The meat was tough and a strange color... kindof greenish?? Like it was probably freezer burnt or something. At that point I was so pissed and hungry I ate it anyway. My friends all ordered personal pan pizzas which were pretty alright. But not at all worth how long we waited for it. By the time we got our checks, I noticed that the sandwich I ordered was listed for over $11 on my tab, although it said it was $9.99 on the menu. At that point I just wanted the hell outta there, so I just dealt with it. Never going back!

Really unimpressed and a total disappointment.... Went here with the Fam last fall and haven't returned since. Food was bland, service terrible and atmosphere loud and just plain obnoxious. Restaurant intervention is definitely in order here!!
(2)James B.
This place is ok. Been here a few times. The location is great. The service is always the worst. I never expect great service when I go here and I only go here when meeting friends who are already here. The food is bad. The owner smokes in the bar which is gross to me. Just not an environment I enjoy at all. I wish someone would buy it and completely turn it around.

Saturday night, date night. Gone badly! My wife's lamb chops smelled like wet dog, and her noodle/rice/unknown side was so salty! My salmon was fine, nothing special. Feeling like everything was old, from the meat to the tartar sauce. Drinks were good...need alcohol to get the food down. Oh, by the way, bread basket was not included. And glad we didn't order it, since it arrived at our neighbors table in ziplock baggies!
(1)Faris Q.
I went there for dinner yesterday with a buddy. We got there around 8:30 p.m. and wanted to sit outside and people watch while we ate. The bartender in the outside bar didn't notice us standing there for 15 minutes. Kept trying to make eye contact and said "excuse me" a few times. Nothing... Then we got seated and that waitress was average. Brought me a frozen beer. I like cold beer, but really, frozen beer? I told her it was frozen. She went to the bar and then came back empty handed. She didn't bring it up again. She never even asked if we wanted another round of drinks. Pizza arrived 20 minutes later. It was a step above frozen pizza. I would rather go elsewhere for pizza and service. I have been here 4 times in my life and every time I go back, I think it might be better. It's not. Off the list now! The only thing that this place has going for it is the patio.
(1)Valerie G.
Oh Como's... I've given this place a try many many times. I can say that there pizza is pretty decent, the patio can be a fun time in the summer months, their late hours are welcome, and they sometims have some pretty decent specials. (Thirsty Thursdays are back - $5 for a personal pizza and beer - although I think the beer is pee-water AKA Bud Light) The problems with Como's are a plenty. Besides the pizza, the rest of the food on their menu is not very good. I've had various chicken and pasta dishes - and I'm never very excited about them. To add insult to injury, their prices are too high for this quality of food. I think I would feel better about my crappy tasting pasta dish if I only paid $7 for it rather than $13. Even the pizza costs more than it's worth. Not to mention the disgusting things I have heard about the kitchen due to the cheapness of the owner. Barf. Then there is the service - Yikes. It's amusing to me that there always seem to be tons of employees on the clock, but only 2 of them actually doing anything. It doesn't seem to matter where we sit, we get the same sub-par service. I'm sure I'll still stop in occasionally, especially to have a beverage out on the patio and people watch... but I think I've paid for my last real meal there. I might fork over $5 on a thirsty thursday (donating my beer to another patron) - but I can't justify wasting my $$ on the rest of their food anymore.

Friday, May 11 @ 6:30 PM: Were seated immediately, drink order was taken and filled promptly. Over 20 minutes later, our food order was still not taken. As we were standing up and gathering our things to leave, the server finally came over. When we asked for the bill, she at least had the decency to say we didn't have to pay for my beer. She may have generous due to the fact she was a little buzzed (I saw her down some red wine at the server station as we were waiting). Because we were parked at a meter, I had a timer on my phone running, so I know it was over 20 minutes, not I'm-hungry-and-this-seems-like-forever-20-minutes.
(1)Henry Y.
Love the location but service....ugh! Maybe make me feel like I was welcomed? The owner is great, we had a good time talking to her but then she left and we were left to the staff at the bar. Sorry if life isn't going your way dude but you work int the customer service business. And were did the gnats at the bar come from? Gnats? buzzing around my glass of wine? Como's should be a first class family restaurant and neighborhood bar in a trendy section of Metro Detroit. Should be....
(2)Erin L.
Oh Como's, the only reason I wouldn't give you one star is because when I am really desperate, i.e. nothing else is open, is when I will come and eat something. I loved this one waitress there and she really made our night, other than that this place is nothing to write home about. We love Ferndale, we live and work here in restaurants and the only reason I would come here is to drink, if I drank, I would have to be drunk to want to eat their food. I used to have good food here, but something happened and now it is a bit of a poop show, because I have to keep it clean. Sorry. Love you guys but had to say it!
(2)Kristian C.
Perfect!!! Steak bites, pizza, and the toasted ravioli is to die for. They are open until 4am on the weekends. My favorite place to satisfy a late night craving for some really good food. Patio during the warmer months has a great atmosphere for fun.
(5)Tiffany H.
The spaghetti was not very good, and the service was not good. I probably wont be back.
(1)Betsy H.
Overall, a terrible lunch experience. We were the only table in the restaurant (which should have been a telling sign). Our salads were bland - the bread (which came in little plastic bags) was served cold with frozen butter. Worst of all - the staff was unprofessional. One staff member was sitting at a table in the dining room cutting bread to put in baggies with no gloves - she was also eating it at the same time. Not appetizing at all! Our party left hungry - we had to stop at Tim Horton's to get soup on the way back to the office.

Como's is located at the corner of Woodward and 9 Mile in Downtown Ferndale. Como's is okay but it's not the best place ever. Como's has several good things going for it. It has an excellent location right on Woodward so it's easy to find an easy to get to. It is also within walking distance of a lot of bars. Como's is open late on the weekends which makes it convenient to get pizza after the bar. In addition, Como's has a huge patio which is nice to sit on in the summer. However, Como's could improve a lot of things. First, the service is atrocious. I've only had a good server once. The last time I was there the waitress came over in an untucked, giant t-shirt and asked for our order. My friend asked if the eggplant Parmesan was good. She simply replied she doesn't like eggplant. Well, that wasn't the question and it's not the way to sell your product. She didn't write down our order and then our order was incorrect when served. Our food was cold and took about 1/2 hour even though the place was practically empty at 10pm on a Tuesday night. I will admit that the pizza is decent. The sauce is flavorful and it's normally prepared well. There is also a large selection of toppings available include some unique options. The rest of the dishes are not that good. The italian dishes range from $15-$20 and are definitely not worth it. I believe the first Wednesday of the month is Lesbian Dance Party. There is a DJ and I've heard it was a good time, though I haven't seen for myself. Now that Rosie O'Grady's in Ferndale has a large patio and better service I don't know if I need to go to Como's ever again. It's a shame that a place with so much going for it doesn't just pick up the slack a little for a truly great dining experience.
(2)Samir N.
I had never been in here before and I was stunned to discover their bar area in the back. I always thought this place was just a diner, but the bar is actually legit. I had a good time grabbing a few drinks, but the place was nothing special. Service was prompt and I never ran thirsty here.
(3)Heather J.
My experiences of Como's are limited to a restaurant rather than an actual bar. Ferndale delivers on drinks with much better venues; The Oakland leads the pack, the WAB, Dino's and Torino Espresso Bar following hot on their heels in a few block radius. On the bright side, Como's stays open ridiculously late for eats off the limited 5:30-9:30PM schedule too much of this fabulous city often operates on. When someone is coming in late or escaping the office, date, or a movie after the ideal dinner window, Como's is likely open and still serving. Their location on 9 Mile and Woodward can't be beat; the patio is a beautiful place to watch urban life flow by and the ubiquitous faerie lights add a shimmering sparkle when the weather turns toward the cooler side. I love summer nights with the house lambrusco in my hand, talking and relaxing and absorbing all the vibrant atmosphere has to offer. At times, particularly during events, the patio turns into a packed madhouse with too many shouts and cheers and groans of the sports fans. I do not like sports bars, as a rule (e.g. my unfavourable review of Rosie's), due to the intense noise element that drowns out conversation and turns rather unpleasant. The menu spreads over a wide range of Italian appetizers and entrees. Popular choices with my set include the antipasto salad (I don't care for antipasto salads one bit); the toasted ravioli (magnificent); and pizza. The rest is a complete crapshoot with more likelihood of dissatisfaction than gooey, melted cheese and crushed tomato nirvana. Lasagna is always disappointing and the chicken entrees tend to be generous in portions but low on tastiness; I just can't trust them to be consistent. On the other hand, the potatoes are good enough the beau and I could come to fork duels over them. (En pointe!) Como's suffers from acute non-herbspiceitis, a chronic condition where dishes are not provided with adequate spice or herbs, and instead excess salt forms because the cooks dump piles of it into sauces and meals. I like salt as an enhancement to my meal but not the dominant flavour, and I find the sauces for all pastas consistently ruined as a result of too much saltiness. Good if you want to drink lots of water and beer, I suppose, not so much elsewise. Yelpers go back and forth on the pizza; I'll say it falls somewhere in the middle. The build-it-yourself option is not cheap but you can pile on artichokes, sundried tomatoes, and portabella mushrooms to complement the green peppers and other options. I have more luck with veggies than meat. Friends, the beau, and I make a point of sharing the pizzas. Thin crust is the way to go over other alternatives if you prefer less grease and more taste. Como's has its pluses: Enjoy the house wines (leave the lambrusco for me, darn it!), order a pizza, and cuddle up on the patio. Be prepared to pay for parking, too.
(2)Samantha S.
This place smells like a dirty bathroom. My husband and I came here to eat this past Saturday night. We left after being seated. If I am going to pay 15-20 for pizza its not going to be in a place that smells like the restroom. They really need to get it together.
(1)Harry R.
Lousy food, worse service, at high prices. I sent back the rewarmed eggplant parm they tried to serve me, and asked for a slice of veg pizza instead. The server said he would fix me a mini veg pizza, which took forever ave then i wished it never came. Since when is frozen broccoli a his idea on pizza? Soggy, flavorless, yet burned,, thus was the worst pizza i have had in a long time. Then the bill came, $19.50 for a mini pizza with every topping he could charge! I was with a group, so protesting was not appropriate, but i told the manager after, who was apologetic (but didn't offer a refund, just a free beer, which i want interested in since i had to drive), but given the long history of complaints here, there is no recuse for truely inept food and service. The only good thing about Comos is the location. Hopefully someone will change this place around. I won't eat there again until they do.
(2)Sol C.
Usually unbearably bad service as well as food. Would not recommend anyone waste their money on this place. I heard they pull meat out of the dumpsters and back into the kitchen after the health inspector comes in. Super gross and it tastes like it. The pizza is even nasty here. I'd rather eat Happy's Pizza for $4. Too bad this place isn't at least decent as the patio is fun to drink at.
(1)Chris G.
I hesitate giving this a 4 star only because a 5 star is perfect. But I had such a good tasting, crusty pizza here Saturday night, that Im giving it a high rating and Im picky. 1 AM walked in with a buz after drinking with a friend. Not drunk. Just a glow. Sat at the bar. Friendly bartender. No attitude. Good place to settle into after a night out to get something to drink and eat. I just really liked the place. Mixed crowd, no attitudes and didnt have to tell any drunks to get out of my face. LOL! Ill be back
(4)Heidi M.
Good pizza, but that is really the only positive thing I can say about Como's. They need a makeover, someone call Gordon Ramsey or Robert Irvine!!! The place is dirty, tacky, the service is awful, and they just don't seem to care. Plastic stacking chairs do not make for proper restaurant furniture, I don't care if it is an outdoor patio. It's such a great location, they need to do better!!
(1)Carmen M.
This place reminds me of that typical italian food in a basement kind of place. The food isn't the greatest, but the fact that they deliver until 4 am is wondrous. Coming home from the bar to Como's pizza, gnocchi, mostacholli - like heaven! You get what you expect; in a place thats open after the bars close, do you expect amazing food? Boyfriend and I personally enjoy it, and Tony is awesome!!
(4)Aaron M.
This place has the best pizza and patio around. The only thing you need to know is that the service will be slow, but go in acting like its a hangout place and your love it.
(5)Dea A.
Imagine a frat house owning a restaurant.... and that about sums up Como's. The bathrooms are gross, the beer selection is crappy, and the service... wait, what service? All they need is beer pong and warm Natty Light to make the scene perfect. My class threw a huge Halloween party here in 2008. I was a little scared about having it outside in the fall, but they had heat lamps out -- and it was nice. Except... there were about 300+ people on the patio -- and 2 outdoor bars with 4 total bartenders. Odds were not in your favor to get a drink. The second make shift bar had flat pop and bottom shelf liquor -- all cash only, all while being charged top shelf liquor prices. I went there once previously, and basically the same story -- impossible to get a drink, and if you DO get served nasty service. Pizza is OK. Pizza is not good enough to make up for the service. You'll wait about 60 minutes to get a pizza when the tables aren't all full. The only time I don't mind waiting more than 30 minutes for a pizza is when I'm having deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati's in Chicago. No drink refills. No water. No checking in on the table. You have to beg to get the check. You have to beg them to ring up the bill. Not worth ever going back -- even for their patio.

Fried appetizer plate (minimum 2 people) and fried ravioli are delish. Pizza is also pretty good and they deliver after 2AM; I always stick with pepperoni.

Take my advice: DO NOT EVER, I MEAN EVER ORDER ANY DINNER OTHER THAN PIZZA HERE. EVER!!!!!!! The pizza is 4 stars easily. Everything else is negative 5 stars. Although, I did like my side salad and the vinaigrette that accompanied it. I went here for my friend's bachelorette party last weekend and I cannot even enunciate how awful food was. The side pasta had the taste and texture of horrible, old cafeteria spaghetti, the potato and vegetable sides that came with the garlic chicken I ordered were undercooked and the chicken itself ? I've had better from a Hungry Man frozen dinner. And onto the service... Oh, waitress. There were only 8 of us. How come you could not remember a single thing any of us ordered? Every time she came to our table she gave a drink or dish to the wrong person, leaving us to pass the plate or glass around to the proper person. And she took the pitcher of water from our table, without asking. So when I asked for a glass of water, she looked annoyed. The best part is she brought my glass back, set it on the table, then picked it up to look more closely at the contents, noticed something in the glass AND PUT HER FINGER IN THE GLASS TO FISH IT OUT!!! She then told me 'Oh, you don't want that.' and took it off and brought me another glass. Uhm, SERIOUSLY?! She did separate the checks for the four of us who weren't on the same bill, but failed to tell us that the 15% gratuity was already added and my friend noticed that it is in fact NOT 15%, but 18% Which really isn't a big deal to me, but she seemed to be annoyed by it. The plus side? 24 ounce draught Pabst for only $2.00? Even though I don't drink beer, that is a steal (even if it is Pabst. The hipsters seem to like it.) They also had $3.00 well drinks. Bonus! In short, people I implore you STICK TO THE PIZZA. It's delicious.

I live in Ferndale, so I used to go to Como's to hang out on the patio even though the majority of the food was awful. The pizza is pretty good, but the other Italian food on the menu is bland and just not very good. The patio is large and breezy and a really nice place to hang out, though, so I would still go there for pizza and beer. However, the last time I was there I sat inside and saw several cockroaches running around. I'm just done with this place; after seeing that, I just can't even go there for drinks anymore. They need to clean up this place and only serve food they can cook well.

The pizza is good, I just get a carry out, its way to close for me unless I can sit outside and the inside dining area just seems dirty to me (I'm sorry just my opinion) I don't die to go here usually its friends who like to go and I say OK but again I never really suggest it. The waiters aren't that attentive they are usually lallygagging. I will stop by if there is an event happening downtown Ferndale, most likely they are selling slices of their pizza. In that case I stop.

I don't know who's idea it was to go here... and it had been awhile since I had visited. But now I remember why I don't frequent this place... The service is TERRIBLE. Seriously. It took an hour and a half for us to get our pepperoni pizza. We had a group of 6 people and every time one us needed a drink or refill, we had to flag our waiter down, who then acted like we'd just asked him to recreate the Sistine Chapel when all we'd asked for was another beer. Ridiculous. I'm sorry, should I just get up and get it myself? When we asked for an update on our pizza after an hour of putting in our order, he basically told my friend there was nothing he could do to help, rolled his eyes and stomped off. She's still mad that we made her tip him. In reality, just go to Pizza Hut. It's right down the street and really, no different. Lesson learned on this one.

I hate to be negative about one of Ferndale's true anchors and I do love the ambience and the pizza, but I must issue a word of warning...Stay Away from the Broasted Chicken! Even the Colonel would be embarrassed to put that dish out to his public. The breaking, or whatever it was, came thick and tasteless. The bird that it covered was non-existent. Add to that the mushy "fried potatoes" and what masqueraded as green beans made me sorry I wasn't drinking. Love what Como's represents but chicken never more!
(1)Alexander W.
It's a little *too* casual. Last time I was there, the pizza was good but the only other people in the restaurant were talking loudly about their sex lives, and I think they were employees. Anyway, the pizza was expensive too.

Soooo, I hate to say I have to update my old review. I've received the worst service there lately. Most recently, my partner and I grabbed a table on the patio on a pretty slow Saturday night. A server went around to all nearby tables but wouldn't even look at us. Other servers noticed us sitting there with no drinks or menus but didn't bother to come say "So and So will be right with you", which would've made things much better. After waiting about 20 minutes we walked up to the bar and though we got greeted pretty quickly by the bartender, it doesn't excuse the service on the floor...you shouldn't have to beg for someone to wait on you. The pizza/beer/patio will still bring me back once in a while, but with much better options for food and service around Ferndale I won't be returning often.

All of the one and two stars are valid reviews. I know I'm not going to get amazing food or professional service in a timely fashion before I even get there. Once you let that go Comos is a comfortable place with great people watching and pretty good pizza. The staff has ALWAYS been nice to me because I'm nice but I've noticed they don't put up with a lot and that's ok. They have a nice patio and are open late. The bartenders have always been interesting characters. I have an idea for all the one and two star reviewers- Buffalo Wild Wings. I'll take Comos mixed bag of nuts over that anytime.
(5)Lynn R.
I go to this place because I like eating outside on a patio and their pizza used to be amazing. However, the past few times it really has not been that great. Went last night and the pizza was so burnt and really did not taste good at all. I have also experienced very bad service every time I have been here (very slow and sometimes very rude). Last night our server was at least nice, but very slow in getting drinks and I had to finally hunt someone down to come and greet us and give us menus after arriving and sitting for several minutes. But you can bet I will probably go back. It's a Ferndale staple, at least I know what to expect.

There are only 2 things I really "get" about Como's and their long standing presence in Ferndale: The pizza and patio. I'm not going to get sucked into the "best pizza" debate because it's futile, but I think it's better than some of those who have self-proclaimed the title or who have otherwise been awarded it. Personally, I like it. Everything else I've ever had there has been forgettable or just ok. The patio is really nice and is open most, if not all the year, and is pleasant enough, even if it's a bit over-the-top. The service, as the other reviews have already attested to, is really hit or miss. I've had both good and really bad service there. My one experience with their delivery was so bad, I'd go hungry before I'd ever do it again.. in fact, it was handled so poorly, one might question whether or not it was worth a complete ban of the restaurant altogether. As I read through the reviews, I think I can sum up some of the passion behind the disdain for Como's pretty accurately (which is incidentally, the same reason they won't get more than 2 stars for me): Como's is that boyfriend or girl friend you had that you were super in to, that you finally had enough of the way they treated you.. so you let them know it! And they didn't care. You wanted some reaction, some regret from them, that you might walk out the door and never come back.. and they gave you nothing, barely a goodbye. Secretly, they know you'll be back some day, and it gnaws at your insides that they're right- this is hurting you more than it's hurting them. Dramatic flair aside, mostly it's just been lousy service sometimes, nothing godawful.. but if you ever do have a problem or a less than satisfactory experience, don't expect a lot of crocodile tears or concern from them... for some reason, they know the have a revolving door of customers that will keep coming back.. just like that bitch who broke my heart in the 8th grade... and then the one in college... and also the one I met a few days ago at Sam's Club. Anyway, you really get the impression that a place this large and this busy doesn't give a shit if they don't retain your business. So... not unlike being married to a rockstar or professional athlete, you lower the bar for them and adjust your expectations so they can succeed -you know they are going to cheat on you, all you can do is manage it and focus on the good, just so you can keep them in your life. I only go there for pizza, I only go when I plan to be on the patio, and I only go when I'm already in a good and patient mood that is unlikely to be spoiled by poor service. It's like I have to get in to character... OK, I'm ready for you, Como's! 1 star for the pizza, 1 star for the patio. Sadly, I've never even had any serious issues with them, but have to agree the 2 1/2 overall rating they've had is probably right on.

Went to COMOs for lunch (for the first time) and had the worst service EVER! The waitress came by all of TWO TIMES (taking our order & delivering the food). To top it off, the place was dirty and food was not great : / Bottom line: dont waste your time or money on this place.

I used to think Como's was fun and trendy then I learned. . . Tonight in an act of desperation for dinner, after ten on the streets of Ferndale, my friends and I turned to Como's. They're open late, it's pizza, whatever. Walking in we were greeted by a surly and unkempt hostess who told us we could sit wherever we wanted. There were five in our party and most of the tables in the main dining room were four or two tops. All together, there may have been three tables occupied. We asked about going to the other side because they have some bigger tables, but we were denied and were told there's nobody over there, so we settled at the one available big table right next to the pizza area. Ten minutes pass and no one has come to our table. I crossed the room and asked the same surly hostess who was talking with someone whom I can only presume to be a waiter, if I can take some menus back to our table. At least another five minutes pass and still no one has come to great us. By this point I'm giving looks to every person loosely dressed like they're supposed to be working there. They weren't busy. At one point there were at least four employees standing talking, looking lethargic and unhelpful. Naturally we left. I think this is my last straw with Como's. Someone will have to drag me back. I don't care how nice their patio is, or how cute the train running alongside the ceiling is, it's not worth it. The pizza really is just okay and way over priced, and what's with charging for soda refills? That sh*t's just stupid! It costs them maybe two cents a glass. Also, their pasta is bland and completely lacking anything close to flavor. I think a can of Spaghettios would be a better tasting investment, and you could probably buy them at Sav-A-Lot down the street for fifty cents. There is no excuse for bad service in restaurants. (I kind of want to check the box under "Waiter Service" that says "Not Sure." I think it's appropriate.)

I used to frequent this place quite a bit because it was really close to my friend's old house. I don't know if we realized that there was a Pizza Hut down the street. I guess she liked it enough to keep coming back. I was not too impressed. Their pizza is nothing to write home about. And while they do have 'free bread', it's rather unappealing. It's just normal sliced white bread that comes in sandwich baggies, you know not the fancy ziploc color seal ones. The ones you fold and such. Pretty lame if you ask me. I would give this place only one star, but last year I went to a party there, which was on the top floor. It was a pretty nice area for a party, and it was fun. I think it was catered from the restaurant, and the food that they had there was pretty good. However, as a paying customer at the restaurant, I have never had anything special there. It is pretty close to the Magic Bag though, so if you want to eat a pizza then go catch a show, then I guess this is a way you could go.

Pros - Patio in the summer. Drink selection. In the middle of downtown Ferndale. Delivers. Cons - Pizza typically tastes like cardboard unless your drunk - then, miraculously, it tastes pretty good. I'd have to recommend a ham/pepperoni/ground beef with extra sauce combo. ... I guess the drunkenness could elevate the pizza to a pro, but I'm not going to push it.

OK, so as a gluten-free, dairy-free diner, I'll be the first to admit that it's pretty stupid to walk into an Italian restaurant and NOT expect pasta and cheese to be in absolutely every option. Como's happened because the restaurant originally chosen was absolutely full, and we needed a table for six, fast. In my recent restaurant adventures I've also gotten slightly cocky in my ability to make things gluten-free, but (serious warning) anyone with food allergies should definitely avoid this restaurant, unless you like to live dangerously. So, Como's. I've heard good things about the bar, but didn't know anything about the restaurant prior to walking in. The decor was like Easter exploded, with lights and things happening all over the place. The tables were super close together, wobbly, and there were a few points where I was almost dining with strangers because I moved my chair two inches. The waitress- who is apparently notorious- was possibly bipolar? One second she was horrible, the next she was intensely sweet. This was slightly disconcerting, as was her order-taking style (when I tried to order a steak and started listing the things I didn't want with it, she declared that I needed a hamburger instead). The food took a while to come, and was my real issue with this place. When the waitress changed my order to a hamburger, I agreed but told her I was allergic to bread. Of course, upon arrival, I noted that there were in fact two pieces of bread surrounding my burger and sent it back. When a new burger arrived ten minutes later, it was lukewarm and very much resembling of the first burger, sans bread. A friend had a similar issue with pizza toppings, and wasn't actually served her food until long after everyone else at the table had finished their dinner. Overall, this restaurant is a one-off - go in, experience the badness and the Italian food, and never go back (unless it's to reenact the restaurant scene from Goodfellas, but you might need to move a few tables first).

To be fair to Como's, I would like to mention that this review reflects an experience that I had a few years ago. Things may have changed for the better, so keep that in mind. But They were rude enough to me that I would never consider going back. I've been here twice, and both times I've received the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. The first time, service was just painfully slow. I figured maybe it was a fluke, so I came back a second time. It was a summer evening, and most people were sitting outside. My girlfriend and I wanted to sit inside because it was very sunny. We walked in the front door and couldn't find anyone immediately. After standing around for a few minutes, somebody finally noticed us and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We elected to sit inside. The host led us to an otherwise empty room, and sat us at a table. Within a few minutes of being sat, another employee walked by and did a double-take at us. Then the following exchange occurred: R.ude E.mployee: What are you guys doing? You can't sit here. There's going to be a party in here! ME: This is where they sat us... RE: Well are you going to be done by 6? ME: Uhh... what time is it now? RE: It's just after 5. ME: Then I hope we will be done by 6. RE: *rude sigh* *storms away* After all that, we almost got up and left. But the situation was so laughably bad, we decided to stick it out. Since we had heard so much about the pizza, we decided to order one. When it finally came out, there wasn't anything special about it. I don't know where they get their reputation for "good pizza" from. There are like a million places in metro Detroit to get pizza. I wouldn't consider this place anything special. Bottom line: ONE STAR.

I came to Como's to listen to some live music as an artist that I enjoy listening to was going to be performing there. I ordered a beer and was enjoying the nice weather on the patio and was then told that the artist I came in to town to see was not going to be performing that evening. The artists were not even notified until their arrival and they felt terrible telling everyone that had taken the time to go see them perform that it was not going to happen. Clubs abuse artists all the time and it is a shame because it not only affects the artist but their fans as well that take the time to come see them perform. You would think the manager or whomever is responsible for booking would have the common courtesy to call the artist who is scheduled to perform and let them know ahead of time that they will not be performing. As I said it not only hurts the artist themselves but those who are planning on attending the event. That is enough about that subject and the only thing else I have to offer is to improve your beer list. The patio and company was nice but that was about it.

Sheeple be warned - people avoid. The only thing Como's has going for it is the company you bring in. I have finally been able to crystallize the reason so many people go back. I, like so many, made several attempts at Comos mostly because "everyone" said I "had to try it". From completely ignored twice (luckily, second time I brought a book and just sat on the patio to read) to rude and even a couple of decent servers that are now long gone I have been moved to review because yet another business associate has suggested Como's for lunch. EEEEEIIIIKKKK! This must be stopped! I don't want people not of the dale to think this is what we have to offer! Service - horrifying unless you go completely out of your way to pander to your server (if you can identify who your server is) Food - reminds me of some of the worst days of Big Boy. Water-pasta with white bread. Yum. NOT. I am not even a fan of their pizza - which I keep hearing is "good" or "great". I just have not found anything on the menu worth eating. Bathrooms - took one look (or should I say sniff) and decided to hold it Drinks - sometimes ok but over priced as so many have said. General decor and ambiance - um. None would be polite. It feels old and dirty because it is? Every time I see this place taking up some of the most prime real estate in Ferndale I shudder and think what might have been. The patio is ok, but that's why I had to pull in that first comment. The patio is wonderful because you have brought people you like with you to share a moment. It is wonderful in sprite of Comos - not because of it.

Ugh, why do I keep going back? Sure they are open super late, have a full bar and a great patio but when you pair that with the worst service EVER and barely even semi-home made food....you just end up asking yourself why you're back every time you go! Nonetheless, I do keep going back....I guess its the atmosphere and the pizza that tastes good at least 75% of the time. The last time i went there, the waitress only forgot like 3 things and it only took her like 5 to 10 minutes to get them when we reminded her....for Como's, that's good service.

Needed a place to catch a bite to eat and a drink with a friend.. at 1am. I didn't know if any other places in the area had open kitchens, so we ended up at Como's. So disappointed. We sat in the bar area, and waited, and waited. The bar only had about 6 ppl in it, and that included the staff. We watched the bartender shamelessly flirt with 2 chicks and actively ignore us. Decided we might get served if we were in the dining area, so we moved. The server was nice, but that was about it. Started with some toasted ravioli, and it had pepper jack cheese in it. Pretty good, but their ranch dressing is thick and gross. Bummer. My friend asked the waitress if they had any drink specials, and she claimed "We don't because all of our drinks are REALLY cheap to begin with.. $3 well drinks!" So we started ordering well drinks. Fast forward to the pizza, which was decent but way overpriced. We got a large so I could take some home to my boyfriend, and it was like $17. For half that price I could have enjoyed a FABULOUS pizza at Green Lantern. Again, bummer. After eating and having 4 drinks collectively, we got our bill. I wasn't paying much attention to the details at the time but I was amazed at how much it was. $50. Really? I sucked it up, paid it and we left. Once I got home I was still trying to figure out how the bill was like $50. I mean, the drinks were supposed to be $3 each, so multiply that by 4, add $7 (app) and $17 (pizza). I pulled out my CC receipt and the bill and found that the drinks were in fact NOT $3 each like the waitress had told us.. they were $6. At $3 I thought the drinks were alright, but at $6 I felt they were weak and watered down. Won't go back. I could have spent $60 (with tip) elsewhere and wouldn't have felt so ripped off.

I know...I know....it's hit or miss at Como's. I've had poor service, decent service and great service. I've had more of the latter and last night wasn't any different. After a few drinks at Loving Touch, my friend & I decided we needed Como's pizza to even the buzz. The dining area was packed at midnight when we walked in. First, I have to say that I LOVED their Halloween decorations. They really did a good job. I was a little concerned about getting decent service because they were so busy & serving lots of food. To my surprise, our waitress rocked. We ordered fried mozzarella while we waited for our pizza in case it took awhile. The fried mozz came out perfect, and the ranch was one of the best I've ever had! Pizza came out pretty fast as well. It hit the spot! Our waitress boxed the leftovers and was kind enough to warn us that it started raining outside. Como's is one of those Ferndale staples that I can't stay away from. It's a great place to get food after the bar and not have to go far to get it. Hopefully they never give me a reason to stop coming in!

This place stinks. Well, it doesn't smell but the mens bathroom resembles something someone might find in a swamp in sub saharan Africa. NASTY. As for the food. Horrible.I wouldn't take the scraps home to feed my dogs. As for the service. Honestly, the head manager seemed really cool. The waiter we had. Let me describe. Outwardly gay, greying hair, medium stature and build was one of the worst waiters I have ever had. 15 Minutes for pop refill, didn't bring condiments. When we finally had waited enough we asked another waiter for help, they promptly helped. Never again.

I rarely go to Como's, and every time I do I get another reminder of why I don't visit very often. I grew up on Vester & Paxton, so I have a lot of nostalgia for Como's, however I went there this Thursday and was very disappointed with the service. I arrived to a group of friends who had already been served, and there were maybe seven tables at the patio full and no one really at the bar. I must have seen more than a dozen waiters running all over at any given point in time, but I never saw our waiter. I asked my friends if they've seen the waiter but they recommended I just go to the patio bar. I walk over and each time I make eye contact with someone they turn away without acknowledging me. All the waiters go in, fix a drink for their table, and leave. So I go to the inside bar and there's no one there either. Finally a waitress pops up from a table and asks me if I want anything, I tell her my order and then she starts taking me back to the patio wondering why I can't get service. She tells me to have a seat at the table where I wait another ten minutes before a waiter finally shows up at our table and asks me what my order was again. After that he came back once about five minutes later (when we didn't need anything), but it was hard to find him after that for the duration of the visit. Getting the bill and change so we could leave was another debacle. It's hard to argue against an institution like Como's, but the service was extremely awkward. While scanning for my waiter, it looked like there was more than enough staff to accommodate the amount of customers that were there. Sure, Como's is right on 9 and Woodward, but in Detroit or even within walking distance in Ferndale you can find a seat at a bar or restaurant that is way classier than Como's with a bartender that is far more attentive and will charge a lot less.

For a basic pizza joint, this place is pretty versatile. I've been a handful of times, under varying levels of intoxication and sobriety, and have never been SO disappointed or SO thrilled in the service and food. In my book, that makes this a pretty solid place. The pizza is good and almost always comes out piping hot from the oven. I don't actually believe that there's such a thing as bad pizza, so feel free to that with a grain of salt. The wait staff is generally attentive and quick to bring you waters if you come in after 2 am. I, unlike others, appreciate the presumptive nature of this gesture as I absolutely am in need of hydration at that hour. On the flip side, the few times I've been here stone-cold-sober, I've still been satisfied with my experience. One time we got a waitress in training, which was a straight up disaster, but I couldn't really hold it against her as it was her 2nd day on the job. Funny story, my friend ordered a double rum with Sprite and a splash of grenadine and the waitress brought her a gin and vodka with Sprite and a splash of grenadine. We spent the better part of our meal trying to figure out how "double rum" turned into "one shot of vodka and one shot of gin". Either way, we were sitting on the patio on a gorgeous, breezy, sunshiney day, which basically erased all the bad things. Honestly, when sober in the warm months, the patio is the most clutch thing about Como's. In a nutshell, I'm not over the moon about this place but if someone suggests Como's, I'll go and end up pretty happy about the decision.

I'm really disappointed to write this review. I have never even been tempted to write a review for any other establishment, but after my last few visits to Como's I feel the need to express my opinion. First off, I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere of Como's. I especially enjoy the patio area. What I am writing about is the exceptionally poor service: extremely long waits to even be greeted by a server and very little follow through with service. The consistently poor service has not kept me from returning to Como's, as I do enjoy the food and environment. The only negative thing about this restaurant is the service. It is about as poor as it gets. Often times servers or bartenders will avoid eye contact and appear to go out of their way not to serve you. The last time I was there (this past weekend) we had to tell a manager where we were sitting because we had been sitting for about 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table. Once we got a server to help us she was polite, but just did the bare minimum - never came to check on us once we had our food or to see if we wanted another round. (In addition, the table we sat at was right next to a chair that was completely covered in bird feces as was the ground around the chair. :P ) The visit before this past one, we sat at the patio bar and were just interested in getting a few drinks before going to see a show. It took a very long time to get a drink and the bar was not crowded at all. Another time we sat inside at the bar and had the same problem - I believe it took us over 30 minutes to get our check at the end of our meal. It seems as if the bartenders work in a way such that if they were not the initial person that served you then they will not help you. We would often see another bartender but he would not serve us. I love eating at local restaurants and supporting independent companies, and as I previously stated, I am very sad to leave this poor review. I hope that something good comes of it - I will probably go back a few more times and hope for the best!

What a waste of a beautiful patio!!! Seriously! Anyways we intended on apps, drinks and lunch but the apps were so bad we went elsewhere. The shrimp was still semi warm from thawing it and the cocktail sauce was the typical spartan brand sauce. Not to mention the 4 measley little shrimp were presented on a little plate on a bed on 2 limp pieces of lettuce. Will not return and will not recommend. I suggest a menu revamp.

STAY AWAY!!! I truly wish I could give this place 0 stars. Last night, my friend and I ordered some late-night delivery from Como's. I had the Lasagna, and my friend ordered the Manicotti. Neither of our meals were anywhere near edible. Both dishes were so severely overcooked and dry, that the noodles had to be cut with a steak knife. I've never tasted food so horrible in my life. Even if the food was anywhere NEAR good, the portions were extremely small for the ridiculous price. STAY AWAY from Como's if you value your money and your time. DISGUSTING.

The FOOD is a solid 4 stars - I absolutely love their pizza! I always get kind of a weird pizza (spinach and feta) but it's cooked perfectly every time. I love the crispy dough and the chewy crust. The toppings are sometimes inconsistent (they are definitely stingy with the feta!!) but everything always tastes great. And the calamari is wonderful! So crispy - I don't know what they put in that batter but it is ah-mazing. The good food coupled with the incredible patio space makes this my go-to for the summer. However, the service sucks. Seriously Como's!! Listen to the people on Yelp!! Your servers are HORRIBLE!!! It takes forever to get a menu, forever to get drinks, and last night our waitress just decided to stop waiting on us! She literally went to every table but ours, even when we had 2 people join. Not sure what her problem was but she wouldn't even look in our direction. After waiting about 15 minutes for her to come by, our friend went up to the bar and asked if we had a waitress...then some random server guy comes over to our table and is like, "I can take drink orders for you two"....completely ignoring my fiance and I who had been eating and drinking there for 45 minutes already (empty glasses in front of us may I add). They gave their orders and he literally started to walk away so we had to grab him and ask him for 2 more beers for us! After that he would check on us every 30 minutes or so. It was really frustrating. If Como's could get their service right I think their rating would go way, way up. No one likes eating when they are pissed off, and pissed off you will be if you're expecting any kind of satisfactory service at this restaurant.

Came here after the bar one night and were seated right away with a party of 6. As we sat I read all the bad reviews on the food and prepared for the worst!! I have only been here drinking and ate once before but things are a little blurry :) Anyhow, our server was Matt and he took great care of us. We ordered 2 extra large pizzas that kind of took too long but that is to be expected at this time of night i figured. The pizza was pretty good and our server had quite a high tolerance for the drunks I was sitting with. If i were to ever go back I would definitely ask for MATT!! The cleanliness of the joint is where the place lost 4 stars. When I walked through the bar to get to the bathroom.....there was quite an interesting smell. Nothing I would like to relive. Smelled like a dirty sanitizer bucket or some sort of backed up sewage? Yikes! Sure glad I didnt smell that before my pizza came! The bathroom is just outdated and scary. Had that same funky smell. Como's will not be my top choice of drinking or eating joints after that stank but is a good choice after boozing through Ferndale.

Can't believe this place doesn't have a higher rating it has every dish any italian food lover could ever want plus you can add ingredients to any dish one of the best things is the heavy amount of garlic they use in there dishes and not alot of places have the roasted garlic peppers and mozzarella appetizer is the best 5 stars for that alone and enough about the environment your eating there not living

Como's is a bit of a mystery to me. Their patio is awesome. Their pizza is pretty delicious. However, I just don't seem to make it there more than once every six to nine months. I think there are 2 things that prevent me from more frequent visits, the prices and the service. I ONLY get pizza when I go here, and while it is very good, it's not in the realm of Loui's, even though the prices are. The other menu items I've seen here don't really impress me, especially the appetizers. The waitstaff here sucks. There's not much more to say than that. My most recent visit ended up being about an hour and a half after the waitress disappeared for 45 minutes. When she finally did show up she asked if we needed anything when there was clearly dirty plates stacked up and empty water/beer glasses. We told her we wanted a box and the check and she told us that it would "take a while since (she) had to figure everything out, it'll have to go on one bill if that's ok." Alright, whatever lady. I understand everyone has a bad day here and there and we may have caught her on a downer Sunday but I don't think I saw 1 waiter with a smile on. Everyone just seemed to be in a negative mood. In the end, I think Como's is a business that's living on it's past legacy. I've heard from all sorts of people that Como's is a must visit. I think it's these people who are keeping this place alive. The interior badly needs renovation, as does the waitstaff. The restaurant is just...lazy. I feel like it could be badass but it just doesn't care.

Over-priced pizza, decent drinks, pretty good patio. Tough call: two or three stars. Maybe it was because Como's was the most talked-up pizza joint when I first moved to town a few years back, it's never been able to live up to it's reputation. The service is a wild card: it's been great and it's been bad. The music is cringe-worthy. The pizza is ok. Canned mushrooms are always the tell-tale sign you're dealing with less-than-inspired pizza, thus the prices shouldn't be so undeservedly ambitious. Drinks are averagely priced, nothing special. I think the best part about Como's, and really the only part worth bragging about, is the patio, It's large, overlooks Woodward and 9Mile, and has umbrellas, so rain or shine, in the summer, you've got a great place to relax (if you're there mid-afternoon through the evening... after dinner, however, it gets downright rowdy, which isn't my cup of tea. But if you like a scene with loud music, give it a go). I'll let the patio space be the final word, cuz there are so few good patio options in Detroit and it's suburban environs. You gotta take what you can get, and Como's patio ain't bad at all.

I'm sorry, but whoever gave Como's low enough ratings that it's only averaging 3 stars is smokin' the hard stuff. I love me some Como's in the summertime. Their patio is one of the best in Detroit and just perfect for weekday happy hours, Sunday Funday drinks or really, whenever it's not raining, snowing or freezing. I've had a lot of dishes but they are known for their pizza which is no Louie's or Buddies, but it's pretty good. Contrary to some of the other reviews, I've never had a bad service experience. And while I wasn't aware that Wednesday was Lesbian Dance Party night, I'm am sure that good times are guaranteed by all!

We went here after a long night of drinking (best friend's birthday) this past Friday and got some eats before walking back to our predetermined places of nap time. Plus, my friend picked up the tab and I wasn't paying too much attention to the service since I was busy chatting with a friend. Everyone knows Como's. Its gay friendly, its got pizza everyone has mentioned at least once in a conversation about Ferndale, theres a patio, etc. When I usually go, later at night, its a lot more tame then some of the other times I've been there, which isn't a bad thing. The food seems to come pretty quick and its usually always very good. I had some deep fried cauliflower last time (I think it was that...) and it was interesting and overall good. The pizza was, as usual, great. I have never really ventured far beyond the pizza, since we usually have 3-6 people and its easier to just get a pizza. I will surely go back to Como's, since there isn't a 24 hour coney island downtown and well, I like to party on weekends. Would recommend for late night, but lunch/dinner, theres other places to go that have more to offer.
(3)C L.
Horrible service, my party of 8 on the patio had to go inside to get their own drinks. One waitress for entire patio. Too early to open outside eating area without staff to serve customers.

I went here for the first time when I could find no other place to dine around lunchtime in Ferndale. I initially thought it was a front, perhaps because driving by, it looks like they haven't changed anything in 45 years. On the interior, it looks about the same- lots of dark wood & dark red vinyl booths. I was able to forgive this, because I was actually raised in a family run Italian Restaurant. My (Italian) father always said, "Never order an Italian meal at a non-Italian restaurant." For nigh on 30 years I have obeyed this mantra, so I felt that I could attempt the meatball hoagie sandwich. Now, my grandmother made these at the old diner we owned, and I haven't found a good one since we sold it in 1989, so I am picky. To my surprise, it was really good, and the price was nice and cheap too. So although the decor leaves something to be desired, bring some good company and feel free to order Italian goods!

I went into this place with my friend to watch a ball game. I have a very specific food allergy, something that makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. They have almost nothing on the menu that I would normally eat. I told them this. Still they insisted I had to order something; they said they could accommodate my allergy. When the food came, in the dark, I couldn't see it, taking their word for it, since they specifically said they would prepare my food without the allergen, I began eating it. Since it did have the allergen in it after all, I eventually got sick. This restaurant cannot accommodate food allergies, doesn't even know what they are. Do not go to Como's if you are allergic to anything or have any food intolerance, they have a very restricted menu, especially compared to other places in Ferndale. This is in my opinion without a doubt the absolute worst place to eat or drink anywhere in Oakland county. Overpriced from previous experiences, and they cannot get your order right. I will never go back, for the rest of my life. After I left, I felt obligated to vomit up what little I ate at this dirty, disgusting hole.

Como's is one of those places where I get stressed out looking at the menu. There is simply SO much to choose from, and everything looks good, but nothing really stands out. Maybe I have just been too hungry every time I've been here, but that has been my experience thus far. I've had the pizza here a few times, and, I will admit, the pizza is very good! On my last visit, I ventured to a "wilder" side and tried the frog legs (on the recommendation of our waiter). Typically, I'm a HUGE fan of frog legs, but these just didn't quite do it for me. The main reason--the minute I touched the stupid things, all of the breading slipped right off. If I had them again, I'd for sure get them sauteed instead of fried. That said, if you come to Como's--stick with the pizza--it's a good safe bet. Side note: Como's had the ingenious idea of installing an automatic sliding door between the bar area and dining area. It did a brilliant job of blocking most of the noise from the live band playing only a few feet from where we were eating. Very nice touch!

In town, and meeting old friends. Let them pick the place - Como's came up. First, Ferndale has reemerged as a great spot! Too, this is a place that has the test of time! (founded 1961). We arrived and the place was well decorated for Xmas. I was impressed by the food I saw on the tables. When our party arrived, we went for an antipasto salad, and a great pizza. Which all turned out fantastic!! Great place.

Como's has one thing going for it - my parents went there for their first date. So, really, if it wasn't for what happened at Como's, I might not be here. Although, whether that's a good thing, I guess, depends on your perspective. :) However, each time that I have been there in the past 10 years or so, I haven't been completely impressed. Their food is good, but I don't think its remarkably better than anywhere else (even their famous pizza). And, their prices are a bit steep. So, high prices for mediocre food - not a good combination. I think that Como's has been such an institution in downtown Ferndale for so long (30+ years) that at this point they're pretty much just coasting on their name. Its kind of like how Kid Rock put out one good CD, and now, ever since he got famous, people continue to buy the crap records he puts out every couple years because its Kid Rock.

It was a good idea: "Honey, let's go to Ferndale for dinner! It's our anniversary. Lets find a place with outside seating and have a good time!" It was a great idea. Hmm, let's review how the night went . . . The company: great The space: great The service: yuck (Being that cranky must be tough) The food: great (shrimp scampi) and double yuck (ribs and sides) The bathrooms: cheesy yuck Food details The shrimp scampi (with a side of angel hair pasta) was worth the almost $20.00 bucks we paid. The shrimp were large and plentiful. The sauce heavy with garlic, butter, white wine, and just the right amount of lemon. Once tossed over the al dente noodles, it became a little touch of coastal Italy at it's best. And sadly, it was the best of our meal. The ribs were dry, over cooked, tough, and much worse then the crappy mac and cheese. That was quite a feat since the mac and cheese was much worse then the baked beans. The water was nice and cold however. See, a silver lining in every cloud (said while wincing, hoping you don't ask about the bathrooms). I say pass unless opting for the pizza or drinks only on the patio.

I had always heard that Como's had great pizza but I prefer lasagna the very first time I go to an Italian restaurant. Now as I write this I will tell you that my visit was about 8 years ago and there is a reason that it will continue. Has anyone ever heard of single layer lasagna?? Anyone? Granted, they may have run out of pasta but they could of at least folded it in half to appear thicker. That told me everything I needed to know about Como's.

Can you rate a restaurant no stars? Because that is definitely what this restaurant deserves. In fact, I don't think this restaurant had any redeeming qualities. We came here for our friend's birthday, and full disclosure, it was during the Dream Cruise. I had eaten here once before midweek for lunch. I remembered it being fine, but that's about it. Let's start with the service. I have never had such a rude and obviously miserable wait staff. Our waitress was visibly annoyed with us the entire time and, honestly, we were not that bad. My friend tends to be a little particular about how he wants his food, but if you're a waitress, you have to know that you are going to have customers that are particular; that's just something that comes along with the job. The waitress would often disappear for long periods of time and when she would come back she would approach our table, say, "can I get you guys anything," and as we were answering her, she would walk away. About three-quarters of the way through the meal she came up to our table and said, I'm cashing you guys out because I'm getting moved outside, but she never gave us the check. When one person in our party approached her to get the check she said, "I just can't take you guys any more, that's why I'm switching with someone else." So the new guy comes, he seems friendly enough, but then he disappears for a while and never comes back. We found out later that he was so stressed out that he went to the hospital with an asthma attack. Let me repeat, our party was not demanding at all, even though that may be what you are all thinking. This brings me to the food. Como's is known for their pizza. The reason that the pizza is rated so highly is because people who come here come when they are drunk. Anything will taste good after a night of drinking! The pizza we had was burned around the crust and not cooked in the middle. When we complained about it (perhaps the reason for the asthma attack), the waiter said he would talk to his manager. Rather than reimbursing us of the uncooked pizza, the manager said that we could order another pizza. Okay, that was fine with us, so we put in the order and about 1 to 1.5 hours later we were still waiting for that extra pizza. At this point we just didn't care anymore and we had not seen our waiter - who was apparently in the ER at that point - for about that length of time; we just wanted our check, but nobody would give it to us. So this brings me to the final frustration of the night, which was actually pretty comedic. We went up to the manager to complain and ask for the check. He would not give it to us. So we asked again, and again. Finally, someone in our party was able to talk to the owner. She came up to our table to apologize and tell us that our waiter had an asthma attack. She says that we seem like a nice group of kids (we're all in our late 20s early 30s) and next time we come back (next time!?) they will take care of us. Then she said we'll get you your check and left. About 20-30 minutes later we still didn't have our check and the owner was no where to be found. At this point we were really upset because we wanted to get to Rosie O'Grady's by midnight to get our free birthday ice cream sundae. Someone again went to the manager and asked for the check and said we really wanted to pay, and if we didn't get the check we would leave. Another waiter yelled, and said, "Oh you'll pay alright!" but still no check! Finally we get the check and we were charged for the pizza which we complained about. After arguing with the manager he took of the price of the pizza. We paid and left, but none of us tipped. It takes a lot for me to not tip, but that waitstaff did not deserve it at all! I will not even give this place a third chance (counting my lunch in 2007). Yeah we ate there during the Dream Cruise, but this was no reason for us to be treated as horribly as we were for very sub-par pizza. Like I said, 0 stars and no redeeming qualities. Ferndale has enough good restaurants so that you do not have to patronize Como's.

Yeah... if you're down with horrible service and super overpriced drinks, Como's is the place for you. It's a shame that such a great patio is wasted on this place and that so many people think it's so fabulous. Oh, and watch your card statements. My friend got charged twice and Como's refused to rectify the situation until my friend threatened to call her lawyer (i.e. her friend who was in law school.)
(1)Lauren M.
Como's is a fun place if you're in Ferndale and looking for a good pizza joint. However, it's not the best pizza in the motor city, BUT it is the best in Royal Oak/Ferndale area. The service is alright, nothing special but the atmosphere is great in the summertime. The open patio, sometimes DJ and generally fun, upbeat attitude of the staff makes this place worth your while. However, if you go after the bars close at 2 -- be prepared to wait awhile for your pizza in a loud, crowded restaurant!
(3)Marie S.
Awful service - slow, not so nice staff - unless you like waiting around for 1/2 frozen food. The pizza is GREAT though. We've returned during Thanksgiving time - actually the Wed before... had the MARVELOUS pizza & service was much better!

After a long day my boyfriend and I wanted to get some late night grub and Como's was the only thing that came to mind other than Coney Island. When we walked in the host appeared to inconvenienced by us as he played on his cell phone. Then he looked in the side room and said in very few words, to sit at any table along the wall and just pointed. Once sat, with no menus, we waited and watched 3 more tables around us sit down and no one was greeted promptly. Eventually a nice woman approached and asked if anyone had got our drink order. It appeared that she was not supposed to be our server but did continue to wait on us for the remainder of our meal. We were served our salad, with no silverware. Had to wait with food in front of us. I politely asked for a side of ranch when our pizza came out in an attempt to avoid waiting again. Pizza came out, no ranch. I asked for it then minutes later I saw her return to the room no ranch. She quickly turned around but I then waited again. The pizza itself was edible, as I was starving but definitely not worth returning for. The side room we were sitting in was freezing. Maybe from the door to the patio? We didn't want to wait any longer for our server to return for the bill so we went up to the host for assistance. This is where my largest concern lies. The host was trying to be helpful informing us that he just needed the table number an he could ring us up. He turned to a server named Nick (I believe I overheard someone say his name) with bleach blond hair and asked him if he knew the table number. The server instantly copped an attitude and rudely said he didn't know. That we weren't his table. I clearly indicated what table we were at and he said "I don't know what you are talking about!" His tone and attitude frustrated me at this point because I have worked in many restaurants and there hasn't been a single one that as a server or host I didn't have to know table numbers of the entire restaurant. Every restaurant I have worked in encouraged team work and customer service. It would have taken him 2 seconds to help the host and myself out. His behavior was so unexpected and uncalled for that I even asked the host if the server was drunk because it was behaving as he was. The host shrugged and said he thought he was having a bad day.....which didn't appear to be the case when he was waiting on a table of loud gay men. My boyfriend is not the fighting type, AT ALL yet after a few choice words I waited for him outside while he finished paying our bill. Service SUCKS Food SUCKS Atmosphere SUCKS I will never step foot in that establishment again.

This gay-friendly restaurant is a must for pizza and pasta lovers alike. Located in Ferndale on the corner of 9 mile and Woodward this local hotspot is a great place for a family dinner or a few martinis with the friends on Saturday evening. Como's is probably best known for their Italian fare, more specifically their pizza and pasta dishes. Como's offers diners tasty pizza with even tastier toppings like artichokes, feta cheese, sausage and more. The pasta dishes are all well cooked and the sauces well seasoned. Personally, I would recommend the pizza over the pasta though. In addition, their menu has a spattering of salads and sandwiches. In the warmer Michigan months lounge on the patio and enjoy your dinner under the dazzling moon. If I'm not mistaken the patio is heated, which makes for a great time on cooler nights. Como's offers a full bar, a great selection of beers, bottled or on tap, and some tasty martinis. The service is always great at Como's. The servers are personable, attentive and never overbearing. They always make me feel welcomed and ensure my satisfaction so I'll return. So, whether you're looking to gorge on some serious carbs or a spot to kick back at the bar Como's offers well prepared food and yummy drinks to satisfy your body, soul, and mind.

I have a love/hate relationship with Como's. I enjoy the corner-lot patio in the summertime, would choose their cheese pizza over most in the area, and like that this place is known for being inclusive of all types of people. BUT, I don't feel like this place is ran with love for the customer. Here's my reasons: 1. The bathrooms smell gross from the hallway, and I only go in there if it is a must. 2. Two different hostesses have mistyped our carry-out order. Both times we ended up with a meat pizza when we made a pretty clear request for half cheese (to accommodate a vegetarian). Plus, they really didn't seem to care about the mistake and definitely didn't take responsibility for it. 3. The servers are hit or miss. When I've sat in the non-smoking indoor area I've received attentive and friendly service. Out on the patio, however, it has been slow, unattentive, and one server seemed bothered in general by any request we had. Overall, don't count on Como's if you have an important dinner or gathering but if you just want a good pizza and don't care about the service, you'll leave satisfied. I'm not sure about any other items on the menu, I've only had their pizza.
(2)Megan M.
I do not agree at all with the people who give Comos a poor rating. It is SUCH a friendly environment and a great place for family, friends, couples, etc. Everytime I go there, the service is great! We walk in and we are seated right away. My boyfriend and I go here a lot and have many memories here! Especially during the summer the patio is the place to be! Whether it's a nice cool night or a beautiful sunny afternoon, the patio is always a great place to hangout and look out to the view of Woodward. It's a simple restaurant to go to especially before or after a movie! Now the food- We personally love the pizza. I think we've order the same thing every time or at least close to it. Ha Ha. It has a lot of cheese on it, which i really like, and the slices are really big! It's great because I always get to leave with a box full of pizza for later.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I can't even rate the food only the horrible, horrible service. Our party just came back from Como's; we had spent all day at the Arab Festival in Dearborn and my mom's husband wanted to go somewhere and get an espresso or cappuccino where he could sit outside and people watch. Well, I don't drink coffee so I'm not sure of where to go so I said "How about Como's? We can check and see what they have and if we don't see anything, we'll go somewhere else". So the three of us get seated and get our menus; sure enough they have espresso AND cappuccino listed..great.. I'm thinking him and my mom can get that and I'll have a lemonade. Our server came over and my mom's husband no sooner got the words out of his mouth then he got a "We don't have that"...with attitude on the side. Umm...let's see...it's on your menu. "We haven't had that in YEARS" he responds with a barely veiled haha eff you attitude. Well then why the F is it still on your freaking menu? So, mom's hubby asks for espresso...they don't have THAT either. He calls over this lady who was wrapping silverware to confirm..um, guess what..I don't doubt it I'm just questioning WHY IS IT ON YOUR MENU? I want to make a good impression on my mom and her husband and I get this crap service (granted, we only ordered drinks) but still....oh yeah, when he deposited the plain cup of regular coffee in front of my mom's husband who happened to be deep in conversation with my mom and did not say thanks our server stalked off muttering "Well thank YOU" all snotty. Holy shit...take your pretentious douchey attitude and shove it..I will never come here again for anytthing and I'll tell everyone I know to avoid it like the plague.

I can't say anything good about this place, other than the pizza tastes pretty darn good after you've been out on a Friday or Saturday night. The lettuce on their sparsely topped salad usually has a few brown leaves, and the service leaves something to be desired. I find that I have to hail my waiter or waitress if I need a drink refill, and they rarely come back to your table to check on you. If you're just going for drinks, they have a small bar off to the side, and the outdoor patio can be a fun hang-out when it's nice outside.
(2)Jim D.
Not Bad. Drove by this place for years and never stopped in. Is it as good as some of the other famous Detroit Pizza Palaces? No The pizza was OK, the salad was sub-par. I might try it again just to be fair. I'll report back.
(2)Robert P.
You know all in all this place sucks but I have to give it a three star. I started going here about 10 years ago and it was a great accepting place to hang out. You cant beat the patio or hanging out in the bar area for a drink... pizza is decent but most everything else is overpriced...well now that I think about it the patio used to be great but everytime I sit in one of those cheap white plastic chairs I think i am going to break it and have half of michigan's gay population laugh at me...the music out there is ridiculously loud but if you are there with your friends drinking does it really matter...stay away from most of the regular food on the menu since it is terrible...accept the fact the wait staff is horrible...enjoy watching the crazy owner chain smoke...dont order appetizers since most of them get eaten by the workers before someone brings them out...but yea i am still giving them a three star...
(3)Jeremy N.
It seems as though a lot of reviewers had bad experiences with the service here, and though I've only been here a couple of times, I found the waiters to be very attentive and talkative. The decor was pretty interesting. Nothing particularly high end or sophisticated, but interesting nontheless (it was around the holiday time though, so it may have changed). Food was pretty good. I like the thin crust pizza, while the breadsticks and salad were really good as well. Might not be quite up to par with a NYC pizzeria, but what is? Another plus is that it's open until 3:30 or 4 on Saturday evenings, so you have a place to sit down and have dinner when the bars kick you out at 2. Overall, I like this restaurant/bar, but I don't love it. Great to check out if you're in the neighborhood, but not to go out of your way for
(3)Jana P.
Saturday night = packed! This place is open late. Perfect for a snack after dancing all night. Came here for some good pizza. They have a great patio but just bad service. Bleh.
(3)Tiffany T.
I give Como's an immediate 4-star for being gay friendly and having Italian food. I'm a fat queer, it's just how it's got to be. There are rules. Details, you say? Como's pizza and pasta dishes have never disappointed me on their own, in fact I've really enjoyed everything I've ordered--until it comes to the bill. Especially when you're sitting in a plastic chair, eating on a plastic table, and sipping wine out of a plastic cup, it's really irritating to pay Como's prices. I took my sister, fresh to metro Detroit, to Como's last summer and got hit with a $5 charge on our bill. I asked the waitstaff who sassily said it was a charge to cover the increasing cost of cheese, which was listed on the menu. The notice was completely unreadable, of course. Sister was not impressed, coming from a small-town where paying more than $20 for a pie and pop is uber frou frou. Oh, her frown! It bore into me! I'm saving all my Como's bucks for summertime, when the spacious patio is open, which is really fun, and has been the spot of me re-finding my "I love Detroit (er...Ferndale)" energy when I'm down. Women's night first Wednesday also a draw for the girl-loving-girls in your life. Get there early, I've never seen so many ladies in one spot!
(4)Michael C.
I had a pizza lunch here that was just amazing. Granted, I'm pretty easy to please when pizza is concerned, but really I like Como's pizza a lot better than anywhere in Ferndale. I was surprised at the size of the thing. It's huge! Add that to a good sauce and lots of it, heaping toppings... and a bucket of brews, and you have a mighty fine lunch! Maybe I'm sheltered, but I've never sat at the bar in a place and ordered food. Not only that, but at a patio bar! For some reason or another this really made the experience worthwhile. Also, Tiny, the bartender, was super sweet and didn't hold back in pouring us some killer mixed drinks. If you get stuck with any bartender at Como's, she'd be the one to chose! Overall the patio experience was great. I'd suggest Como's to anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive lunch in Ferndale 9 mi. area.
(5)Sheila P.
They are known for their pizzas which are I'd say good. I believe it is a family based restaurant. Try their pizza. I enjoyed it.
(4)michelle s.
I'm only giving them a 2 because their pizza (especially the deep dish) is not completely horrible. Avoid all other food from this establishment. Or just go for overpriced drinks if hanging out on an insanely crowded patio with poor service sounds good to you.
(2)Alexandra K.
Como's does not serve the best food in the area by any means, but it was a calm bar to hang out at a few Saturdays ago. The vodka cranberries were inexpensive, and the environment was a lot less smokey than other Ferndale locations. I would probably return at some point.
(2)Rhonda L.
Okay place for pizza and pasta. Patio is great in the summer.
(3)Rich S.
Every time I have been to this place was because my friends and I were very intoxicated from a night of drinking and needed a place to relax and chill. Also, every time we go here, we always had the pizza. I don't think I know anyone who has been here that hasn't had the pizza. So please don't take this review as a general culinary review of Como's, but rather, if you were looking for some good pizza late at night after 2AM. As far as late nights eats go, this place is pretty solid. Pizzas came out in a timely manner and they were pretty decent. I enjoy pizzas that aren't soggy, overly oily or burnt and this place satisfies all conditions! The other late night drunken patrons are a rather interesting bunch. It's not often I get hit on by guys, but if that's your thing, this place won't disappoint. Or maybe it will? Who knows!
(4)Merry Beth T.
I hadn't visited Como's in quite some time and last night was a really great night there! We sat at the bar and the service was amazing. I wish I asked the server behind the bar his name because he was so friendly and courteous. Also many TVs to dig all the Winter Olympics coverage. I absolutely love the Angel Hair Marinara there--the sauce is great. My dinner mate got the Linguini and Clam Sauce which is generally a good choice here. And any place that gives me a bread basket scores points for me. Last, but certainly not least, I ordered a Chardonnay and got a huge pour. I've never seen bigger glasses. Of course just the house Chardonnay, but still decent. A good time!

We sat on the patio, and it would have been nice but the food was not so great and the server was nice but horrible. We had to send back our diet coke because he brought regular, we had to grab our own silver ware from the hostess stand. The subs were not so great. One person got the pizza, and it was excellent, but we ended up paying almost $40 for our two person share of the bill and I would have had a better meal at Subway. Too bad, because it could have been really nice.

Best Pizza in Michigan period!!!

The only good things about this palce is the patio and that you can get food until 4am. However, the patio sometimes is packed and if you're going out there to eat you my not get the best service. It's hard to walk around all of the plastic chairs and people. The food is plain and boring and WAY over priced. If this place was in any other spot besides it's prime location on Woodward it would be out of business. Go to Marinelli's instead, cheap drinks and awesome square pizza.

When you have the location, you don't have to be good.

There are some things that I absolutely love about Comos, and there are a few things that I'm not overly thrilled about. First the loves: -Their Easter buffet. I had it the first time I ate there, and was BLOWN AWAY. If you need something to do for brunch on Easter, get off your butt and go to Comos. The food was amazing, the service was great, and they really went all out with decorating. -Their patio, it's a nice place to sit and eat, always busy. Ok and on to the things I didn't love. When I ate on the patio our services wasn't great. They were SLAMMED, but still smile at your customers, make sure they have what they need. We also were sat right by the back entrance so people kept walking in butt in my face, and bumping my chair - no fun. Get rid of that table or move it! Their pizza was just ok. I've had worse, but I've definitely also had better!

This is one of the Italian places in the area. Reasonable priced, great tasting food, the portions... don't eat before or you'll be taking it home ! I mean they are ITALIAN size portions! I love it here!
(4)Aj L.
Some of the best pizza you will have! Round pizza, relatively thin but not crispy, delicious tasting ingredients.
(5)Lynn R.
Worst server Nick ever waited on us 20 minutes no appetizer or salad. Ended up paying for a glass of wine and leaving. We won't be back.

Comos is located in fee dale and has been there as long as I can remember! I haven't been here in 20 years but everything is just like it used to be! We ordered a few apps that were all bomb especially the steak bites. We then had a Pepperoni pie that was amazing. Crunchy, hot and full of pepperoni! All in all the place did not disappoint and I hate the reviews that bring the stars down! The place is what it is and people on yelp need to stop being cyber bullies!

After reading all of the lousy reviews of this place, my girlfriend and I wanted to check it out for comedy purposes. In all, the food was ok, standard reheated red sauce Italian joint fare. I got a round pizza which was ok (honestly wish I would have gotten a deep dish -- their deep dish actually looks pretty good). Girlfriend got shrimp scampi which was also ... passable. The decor in here is bizarre. It somewhat resembles the decor at a normal red sauce joint crossed with a funeral home. Big patio (which is nice). The tables, chairs, and flooring look like they're straight out of a poker hall. Service was good. The real downside here is the price. Prices are entirely unreasonable for this type of food and the portion sizes. Disappointing.

The pizza I had excellent deep dish Cheese tomatoes pineapple very delicious Service excellent Ambience very nice This place is a very well known icon In the Detroit area
(5)Chelsea C.
I had the shrimp scampi and I really enjoyed it. I didn't care for the green beans. My mom got their full slab of ribs they smell and look good but very tough ( over cooked ) Had their calamari for an appetizer and that was very good with lemon. Won't be returning.

Food: is good, I had thin crust pizza. They top it generously and seemingly with quality stuff. I do not think however, that it's worth the price. The same good pizza can be found in many upper grade pizza places and often for a couple bucks less. Also, we waited precisely 40 minutes for it to arrive, while there was absolutely no other clients to be served at the time. Experience: is unpleasant for the most part. Our waitress was polite, but everyone else we passed was either repulsive or making sure to assert their dominance of some sort...lol! The greeter/takeout guy was chilling on his phone and leaking boogers onto his sleeve, hostess was plain rude.. My mom was still consulting with me if she wants the patio or the inside, so the hostess let out a loud sigh and hissed "well, sit wherever you like" then angrily left. On our way to the patio I asked a server if the outside is open for seating, without even looking at us she goes (with full attitude): "do what you want". To top the experience, as we were leaving there was a super creepy dude laying on the dining chairs, staring at us with the most perverted stare who wished us "a very nice day laaadies". Scary! Tables and menus were greasy and dirty. Dishes/silverware very worn and old. I don't think I'd return

This is my favorite place to eat in Ferndale. I love sitting outside and eating. The staff is very friendly and the food is so good.

Okay, so I was a little nervous to try this place out based on everyone's reviews. I also did some crowd-sourcing on Facebook and asked people's opinions, and they varied from "great place!" to "I would never eat there again. EVER." However, my experience ended up being okay. I had a $40 Groupon that I had bought before reading the reviews on here. As soon as you walk in to Como's, there's a sign talking about Groupon/LivingSocial deals, so that was interesting. My boyfriend and I were attending a show at the Fisher, so I figured this would be a good place to eat beforehand. The waiter was friendly and I asked him what would be the best things to get with our Groupon. I wanted to try the pizza since most have raved about it, so we got a medium pizza with Italian sausage, green pepper, and banana peppers ($15.99), a sampler app ($7.99 each, so $16 total), and later, two cannoli's ($5 each). Something a little weird about the Groupon is that it does say NO BEVERAGES on it ... I assumed this was alcoholic beverages but we did ask and that includes sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks. THE PROS: -Pizza was good although overpriced, IMO. The crust was thinner than I thought it would be. When you walk in, you see the "pizza man" (pizza chef, lol) cooking pizzas in their oven, and he was the one who delivered it to our table, so you know that the pizza is very fresh. -On the app plate (also overpriced, at $7.99/pp - I would say it was worth maybe $10-12 max), we got mozzarella sticks and toasted ravioli (very good), fried zucchini (also good), chicken tenders (okay), fried cauliflower (meh), jalapeno poppers (I avoided since I dislike spicy foods), and I think maybe like one more thing. We got 2-3 of each except a lot of the cauliflower and zucchini. Surprisingly, after the cheese items, my favorite was the zucchini. THE OKAY: -Cannoli's were $5 each (a little overpriced, but they were BIG) and were just okay ... I still cleaned my plate, though. They tasted like pistachio or something. -Waitservice - I know all of you on here are saying it's AWFUL, but it really was fine until the end, when our waiter seemingly wandered off while we were waiting for the bill. This review would have been like 3.5/5 (rounded up to 4 stars) if not for that, because we literally waited about ten minutes for him to come back. WHAT TO KNOW: -They don't take credit cards unless your bill is $10+, so I had to pay cash for the remainder of our bill (about $4) plus the tip. -They have a patio that seemed like it would be nice in the spring/summer. I won't make an effort to return to Como's, but I could see myself going there for a drink on the patio in the summer with friends, and maybe ordering a pizza. Green Lantern is still my fave for pizza in the area, though.
(3)P J.
If I could give zero stars, I would. We were seated and we sat there ignored for over 15 minutes. Waitresses were sitting and socializing at a table nearby as well as walking past us to never say a word. I will never be returning. Worst service I have ever experienced and I am a waiter so I am pretty understanding.

Over 6 years I have been the over 50 times with friends so I feel this is a good overall view... The food is sorta aOK if it is inside or outside. Overpriced for what you get, close to Sam's Club or Costco or Gordon Food Service quality put in a microwave. If you are there for the food then I say pass, but they do have an awesome outside deck in the Summertime. I do say go for the outside feel and get a few beers. Food pass, Summer Feel go...timing is everything in life : )

I went here with my older sis for early dinner this past Saturday. She had wanted to take me there before but at that time Ferndale was having one of many of their weekend festivals and parking was impossible to find so that was a bust. I'm not going to lie. I went to Yelp and seen the mostly negative reviews and wasn't sure what to make of the place. They definitely have the great location thing going for them. My older sis and husband like the place while my younger sis is not a fan but says the pizza is the only real saving grace. You can't miss the restaurant as you drive down Woodward. When going in you first hit the main bar area which was quite dark for a sunny afternoon outside but it is what it is. I didn't see a host come up as we made our way through the bar and the main dining hall so wasn't sure if we had to seat ourselves. Moments later though the hostess came and asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We opted for outside but then was warned that it might be a really long wait before seeing a server as three of their workers were no shows. Guess the weather was really nice and they skipped work. LOL. So with that in mind we went inside. There were only two booths available and we quickly chose the one away from the large family with lots of kids. The inside was like a darkened banquet hall with yellow flowers (not sure if they were real or fake) hanging all over the walls and ceilings. I guess the yellow was an attempt to brighten an otherwise dark room. The three no show workers really affected things as our table still needed cleaning and new silverware and napkins. Two of the staff including our main server scrambled to get it together. Our main server was okay though she seemed rushed and flustered at times and took a long time returning to our table get our pizza order in. I tried to get her to put it after sending our Wing Zing appetizer but she told us she would return (ten minutes later). It also took ages to get a refill on the water. So our appetizer of the Wing Zing were nice and hot. Again no worries about growth hormones in their wings. Oddly enough the plate only had 7 WINGS. The odd number of wings reminded me of when I was 12 and she was 13 and she joined me for two weeks working at the family Church. So I normally got paid $25 every two weeks (yeah they got me real cheap though at that time $25 went a lot further than it would today...*LOL*). Since my sister worked with me, the Church decided to split our $25, with me getting the extra dollar because of seniority. Needless to say that ended that little work arrangement. I relayed the story and we shared a nice laugh over the memory. Since I got the extra dollar that time, I let her have the extra wing....*LOL*. We ordered a medium round pizza with pepperoni, portabello mushrooms, and green peppers. The pizza was good though I was expecting our server to cut the pizza and give us the initial slices (like they do at Giordannos) but she left us to fend for ourselves. I do wish Yelp had a half star system but I guess the halves come in from the average of all reviews. I felt service was about two stars while the food was about three stars so it averaged at 2 1/2. But I pushed it to three because at least it seemed like they were somewhat trying. I wasn't overly wowed though. If I"m in Detroit and my older sis really wants to go there, I'll go with her but I won't go out of my way to request going there. They definitely are resting on the "good location" laurels.

This is the kind of place I wish I could love because it's such a part of Ferndale history, but it was just...shitty. There are really no other words. I took my girlfriend here recently and it was not a good experience. We waited twenty minutes for someone to come take our order, and I had to flag our waiter down from across the room. He apologized and explained that he had been preparing the food for another table--apparently the waiters also double as cooks! Not very efficient. I ordered an antipasto salad, which was put together very prettily, but underneath was absolutely swimming in dressing. I also ordered a glass of the house pinot grigio, which was decidedly the best-tasting thing there, along with the marinara sauce. We got an appetizer and my girlfriend ordered fish and chips. The apps were greasy, not well flavored, came with an overly salty ranch and a rather spicy marinara. I was hungry enough to eat about half the platter, but immediately regretted it, as the insane amount of grease did not sit well on my stomach to the point of nausea. My girlfriend's fish and chips also wasn't satisfactory, as the fries were soggy and flavorless (as well as clearly out of a bag) and the fish was too greasy, undercooked, and had soggy breading. The waiter brought back the fish and chips, although it came back with one less piece than she had originally gotten. We had no such luck with the appetizer, which turned out to be frozen and not actually made at the restaurant. I finally had to inform the manager that the food was unacceptable and had made me ill; he did not offer any apology for the low quality or my discomfort, and said that "of course" the appetizers were frozen out of a bag, as it was impossible to make them in-restaurant. I am pretty sure that it's possible to make food fresh in a restaurant, but what do I know? The final cost was $40 for a single glass of wine, a tiny salad, two plates of pre-made frozen food out of a bag, and some fish that was only made well the second time. I was on the verge of doing a dine-and-dash, it was so bad. I would never come here again. Bad food from a bag is one thing, but the way the manager behaved was inexcusable. I've heard that Como's is going under, and I have to say that it kind of deserves it.

Not good at all. Reminded me of wedding food. Green beans were gross. Roasted potatoes were standard fare. Seemed all frozen reheated food. Tried it and won't be back.

I came here with the roommate & bf one Saturday night. They were busy, but it was still easy to get a table. Not so easy to get a booth. As soon as we walked in, I was not sure if we sat ourselves or we were actually led to a table. This is a pretty confusing & hectic place. Our waitress was kind, but the pizza took like forever to get here. I know it takes around 30 min-45 min at most for a pizza to be cooked, but we were waiting for over an hour. I was starving by then. I looked over at other tables as well. They looked hungry as well! We ordered a deep crust pizza. A bit over priced, but nevertheless still pretty delicious. Pizza is always a good idea. I had this pizza for leftovers for days. The best part is they have a full bar and offer many beers on draft. Overall, I had an a decent experience.

I love this place!!! My wife and I have eaten here maybe 20 times over the years, not to mention the dozens of times I've been with friends after the bar(s). I've also been on holidays with family. I've had everything on the menu at least twice, and it has NEVER disappointed. The staff is awesome, the food is f-ing delicious, and the place oozes old school. The fact that it has a two and a half star rating overall disgusts me. Some a holes probably don't realize they are too busy for their B.S. Get what you're going to get and sit back and RELAX; often times, they are quite busy. For those of you in a hurry, CHILL THE EFF OUT!!!! Or, you can go to some shitty fast food chain.
(5)Jessica Y.
This place has been sloooowly going downhill while their prices are quickly going up. They do still have a patio and a nice bar but you'll never know because the servers are under so much pressure, everyone's confused, food's getting greasier by the minute, and everything looks cheap and dirty. They desperately could use a whole revamp to recapture the glory they had. Sad really :(

Seriously terrible Italian food. What qualifies me as a expert on Italian food? A life time of being Italian, eating at tons of Italian food restaurants, and eating my own families cooking. Italian food is done by tons of restaurants all over the United States. Some do it ok. Few do it well. But Comos, they do it awfully. So bad. Greasy everything. Even the soup left my lips covered in grease. Bums me out cause they have such a good location in Ferndale. Hopefully others don't go here and think that is what Italian food is supposed to taste like. Dear Comos, you can pay me/my mom/my aunts and we will help you out of this terrible food hole you currently find yourself in.

Ive stopped in a few times for drinks, but this was the first for food. I came with a friend around 11pm. The dining room was practically empty. Our waiter was super nice and very laid back. He continually checked up on us (possibly because he had nothing else to do). Pizza was delicious. Interior could use some help. Currently they have tacky st. Patrick's day decorations up. One big issue: while waiting for our food there was an argument in the kitchen. Among crashing dishes there was a lot of yelling. The only other table in the room got up and left. Kitchen staff seemed very upset and management had to pull someone out. This isnt acceptable. While restaurant work isnt easy, scaring customers away is a bad business plan.

Service was terrible! Granted walked in 5:40, busy, but people were leaving. The place did not fill back up. Waiter served meal in sections. First spaghetti, then the salad. He miss ordered food twice. Not prepared to handle small children since I asked numerous times for bread or something quick. Do not order lasagna since the piece is 2" x 4 for $14.99. Very small for the money! Really disappointed since I was looking forward to eating here!

Good pizzas, good cocktails and a very nice patio ! And we could also watch the Belmont horserace, perfect !

Decided to overlook the Yelp ratings and try this place during Ferndale Restaurant week. An appetizer, two dinner salads, two pastas, and two glasses of house wine for $30. Worth a shot. We were seated right away in a two person booth. The bench was so far away from the table that I had to sit on the edge of my seat to eat from the table. Both were fixed into the wall, so it was very uncomfortable. We let our server know we wanted to do the restaurant week menu. There wasn't a special menu, just pastas and apps from the regular menu with some exceptions. I ask about the house wine options, and she had to go to the bartender to ask availability. We ordered the house chianti, Bell's two hearted, toasted ravioli, and two pasta dishes with dinner salads. Our server also had to go to the kitchen to see if the app and pastas we selected were available for restaurant week. They should know this stuff! It took 20 minutes before we got our drinks, and....rather than telling us there were different draft sizes and asking which one we would like, the server brought a 24 oz stein of beer. Most people, if not all, expect a pint of beer unless provided options to choose from. The toasted ravioli was okay. Next up we received our entrees before we received our dinner salads. Our server asked us if we still wanted them. We said yes. The dinner salad was iceberg, red onions, chick peas, one cherry tomato, and one olive. The Italian dressing was disappointing, definitely not housemade. I had the eggplant parmesan as an entree, it was meh. There was so much breading that it was crunchy. The sauce was good, My other half had spaghetti and meat sauce, and said it was okay. We received the bill with an open food charge of $30. The server complained to us that nothing was set up in their system for restaurant week, and that she had to write out our orders to the kitchen and then ring it up this way, and that's why everything took so long. Definitely a one-star experience. We ended up at Treat Dreams afterward so the evening would end on a high note. I added a second star because the bar and the patio are both nice, and my other half says the pizza is pretty good. I might come back on a nice evening to enjoy the patio and a pizza.
(2)K Edward J.
If I had to dig deep into my brain and come up with the worst dining experience, it would be Comos. I ordered a Chicken Alfredo that, I kid you not, didn't even have Alfredo sauce. It was like they melted a teaspoon of butter and pretended it was sauce. The portion was fit for a kids table. My girlfriend ordered the Caesar Salmon salad. This salad was comparable to a side salad at any reputable spot. I'm pretty sure they just dumped canned salmon on top. Gross. I hear they have good pizza. I will never know...
(1)Amy S.
Mediocre food for the price. Confused, ill informed wait staff. The smell of the alley dumpster at our table. I'm pretty sure the only reason they are still in business is their patio.
(1)Myles G.
Ok pizza, terrible service. Asked for a deep dish, 30 minutes later a round pos comes to our table. Rather than waiting for a new one, we wanted out asap. I would go back if there was an apocalypse and this was one of the last places open, for sustenance purposes.
(2)Tyson R.
Best thing about Como's? WALTER. He was our waiter last night and we will return to Como's so that Walter can be our waiter again. He works every day/night but Monday's. This man is a machine! Very attentive, he kept us updated on our food so that we wanted for nothing. He gave us great recommendations on an appetizer, garlic bread with marinara sauce - delicious, soft but crunchy, airy, pillowy, buttery cheese goodness. The four of us split a deep dish pizza which was perfectly cooked. He kept our drinks full and got us everything we needed quickly. We liked the outdoor seating with gas heat lamps that made it comfortable to watch the Tigers game on the big screen TV's, even though it was a little cold last night. Can't wait to go back! Go check this place out... and of course, sit in Walters section!!!
(5)Michele A.
went here because it was game night and all other places were full. Not the best place to eat. My salad was brown and bland. We also got a pizza which was ok but soggy in the center. Drinks are a good deal and they have TVs on the bar. I do not expect to be back.
(2)Melody B.
The best thing this pizzeria has going for it is the location. I barely give this three stars. I was torn between two and three. The pizza is delicious and the ranch dressing on the salads is honestly the best I've ever had. You can't beat the location. Those that live in the area can walk, it's just a quick freeway drive from Hamtramck/Detroit, and it's a good choice if you are already parked to visit one of the nearby bars. On the down side, I find the service to be extremely inconsistent, ranging from overly aggressive to terrible. Last night I got a pizza to go, and the woman (I think she's an owner) acted totally put out that she had to take care of us. All the other employees were great, though. It's also kind of on the expensive side. Overall, for the price and the possibility of not finding a parking spot or having to deal with so-so service, it's only worth it half the time. I pretty much only choose Como's if everyone wants pizza, and we're in the neighborhood. Sometimes a better option is Pasquale's down Woodward. Faster seating/service, and slightly cheaper.
(3)Shane m.
If you had other options, I would suggest not going to comos. It's EXTREMELY over priced. The food is nothing special and they attach $15-$20 price tags on all their dishes. even their appetizers are about 9 bucks. The service is never good for me. There is a lady, I believe the owner, who looks like a reanimated barbie doll from hell. She walks around the restaurant and screams across the room at the employees and it is very unsettling. I have honestly not had a good experience here since I was a kid and my grandma would take me. it was cheaper then and their pizza was delicious. Now a days, not so much.
(1)Haroun K.
I've been to Como's a few times, though only for drinks. My friends always seem to enjoy their pizzas and appetizers. The drinks were not really well made or optimally priced. Basically you go to Como's for the patio scene, which is really wonderful with some good friends. Service can be iffy, but really, sitting back and drinking on a summer evening, it doesn't matter so much.
(3)Kenny K.
Went last night (Sunday) with partner and parents. For a Sunday and it being summer the place was not really busy. The waitress started out OK but she went down hill fast. Took drink orders and brought mugs for beer but......where is the beer? Waiting and waiting. Ordered salad and pizza. Salad came fast but........no plates, forks or napkins. The bus person got us those after awhile. He was better than the waitress. One of the 2 pizzas arrived and then 8 minutes later the 2nd one. The pizza was really good as usual but man this was the worst service ever there. She even mess up the bill and had to redo that. Go for the food but forget the service.
(3)Miike G.
Booooo!!!! Pizza OK, management/servers not so good. Only check this place out after a night of heavy boozing!
(1)MichiganFoodie S.
Pros: The toasted ravioli I got with ranch was surprisingly flavorful and I enjoyed the outdoor patio filled with people. Cons: The ham & onion pizza wasn't anything to write home about. I got a water, but could taste traces of vodka in it. Service was mediocre. Bathroom was quite gross.
(3)Marco P.
Incredible as it may sound...They had limited supply of alcohol on St. Patrick's day and ran out of basically all the booze and the beer taps were not working. And the taps that did work were dirty. If not for the outside deck, this place would not be open. Anything other than pizza...SUCKS! Pizza is OK ..Thats good for 1-star...But horribly overpriced ($20 for pepperoni pizza?). And the pasta dishes are piles of overcooked noodles and something that is passed off as sauce. Steak bits were burnt shoe leather. The owner walks around like a zombie oblivious to the disaster Como's has become. Manager is a joke..Not quite sure what this guy does there?? Bar staff is actually pretty good (skinny guy with a mohawk). But WAY understaffed. Servers are non-existent..if you can get one to your table you better order everything ASAP. If this place was not on the corner of 9 mile and Woodward, it would have shut down years ago.
(1)George S.
Went to Como's a few years ago & i've never been back. I stopped in with my parents to have a nice family lunch, and we left disappointed. Having never tried one before, I ordered a meatball sub. The sub came out wrapped in tin foil and was the messiest malarchy I've ever seen on a restaurant plate, it was difficult enough to hold it, let alone eat. I couldn't even eat the entire sub, it tasted exactly what dog food smells like. Suffice it to say, I choked down half of the sub (to be nice, because I wasn't the one paying) but I gave up. I can't remember what my parents had, but I do remember they were equally disappointed. You only get one first impression, and as I said before: I haven't been back since, that says it all.
(1)Tiffany D.
I love this place, despite all it's flaws. The pizza gets it four stars, along with the patio atmosphere and the very customer friendly hours (open til 3am... who doesn't want pizza at 3am?). The service is kind of notoriously slow, and the drinks are a little bit watery, but if you come for the pizza and to sit outside under the heaters of the patio even in October, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Dario C.
If you're going to eat at Como's, the ONLY thing to order is the pizza... everything else is mediocre at best and way overpriced. The pizza isn't the greatest, but it's not bad either. I've been there a handful of times and if it's even remotely busy, then service is terrible, especially out in the patio. Most of the time I had to keep getting up and getting my drinks from the bar because our server was nowhere to be found or kept forgetting to bring us what we ordered. I think they may be understaffed. Anyways, poor planning on management's part.
(2)Amber H.
I really want to like como's. They have a great patio. A super skinny, crazy woman who chain smokes and walks around creeping people out as their owner/gate keeper, and they are so very gay. However, we went there on Monday and their deep dish pizza was hardly deep dish (even though it was pretty good - it was definitely misleading and not necessarily worth the $20 price tag) and our waitress kind of spaced on our drinks. Granted, we were a big party - a work softball team who just had our first win after a series of painful losses - but still, beer is important. and if you can't get that right como's - we gots some problems.
(2)Parisa K.
I should probably give this place 4 stars, but I don't want to. I like this place, but I just don't get it. I don't get why people rave and rave about Como's. I think it's overrated. Sure they have really good pizza. Sure they have a nice outdoor porch to eat and drink at. Sure the staff is generally friendly. But my gosh, the way people talk about this place, I was anticipating the best experience of my life when I went for the first time. Did I get that? No. What I did get was a pretty good experience with some pretty good food. Good enough to go back? Yes. But so good that I HAVE to go back? No. My point is simply that Como's is a good place, perhaps even a great place, but if you've heard all the hype, block it out before you go there. I have been there several times, and it's always been enjoyable. I like how it's right in downtown Ferndale, how it's relatively cheap for the overall experience, and how the pizza is quite delicious. I recommend you go there; it will probably be quite enjoyable, but just don't expect to be blown away.
(3)Arturo F.
It's all about the pizza. It appears they have stopped experimenting with crusts, and have gone back to the original, or something close to it. Appetizers are great. Besides pizza, this is where the menu shines. I would avoid the traditional Italian entree menu. Nothing here is very good for the price. The bar area at Como's is great for anyone on almost any night - straight, gay, tranny, nerd, whatever. No one is bothered. I would avoid Como's on lesbian night, if you are not in fact, a lesbian. I was picking up a pizza for myself and a girlfriend and my kidneys were beaten terribly by passive aggressive elbows from women old enough to be my mother, but looked exactly like every one of my tennis coaches. Be mindful of the theme nights before you enter. Bar area and carry-out areas are not safe on these nights, unless you fit the stereotype. Stereotypes mean everything here. Luckily, themes are on the patio come summer. Lesbian intimidation or not, a total gem. I have never experienced poor service here, and the food and atmosphere make up for anything you could find lacking. This is the neighborhood pizza we all deserved but was replaced by little cesars. In a town of cake and pan square pizza, this is a rare wonder.

Como's is a great place to go with a small group to friends to grab a bite, drink and dance! I have been there on many occasions and it is always a good time. I've had most of the appetizers and they are all good, the pizza is great and the drinks are strong. Como's is very eclectic, I have friends that bring their kids, friends that go there to drink and friends that swear it is a gay bar.... Any which way its fun! If you are looking for some late night fun and to skip the food, head to the patio. I have been there for salsa dancing and plain old dancing events. Here is the breakdown: * Wait staff: Efficient * Drink Menu: Full Bar * Menu: Italian, Pizza, American * Parking: Its Ferndale... if your lucky you can get street, if not there are lots all over * Dress: Casual
(4)Matt K.
Como's is known around for one thing..Pizza. They clearly have some of the best Pizza around and are worth calling to place your ordering and then picking it up. If it's late at night, go in, sit and order dinner with some friends and maybe a few drinks. During the summer it is nice to sit on the patio outside and enjoy your food and the music also.

This was the location for my Detroit birthday party and it was a great choice, I think! It almost reminded me of Buca Di Peppo's (not sure if they have those in Michigan). It was heavily decorated for Valentine's Day, which was really fun. We were seated in a private area in the back, which was perfect for my large and somewhat loud party. The menu is pretty standard for an Italian restaurant. The table got several appetizers, but the only one I tried was the fried ravioli. I wasn't too impressed, it was really tough and chewy. I also ordered a small Ceaser salad to start. This was good, although there was alot of dressing. I might order the dressing on the side in the future. My group ordered a few extra large pizzas to share, and then a few people also ordered separate entrees. The pizza was really delicious! It was ginormous, and was somewhat thin and dripping with cheese. I also tried the fried shrimp, which I enjoyed. Portions were huge. Our service was really exceptional. We had two dedicated servers for our party, and they were both charming and funny, even when we had them running. Even the busser was fun. If I lived in the area, I would be back. They were even open until 2am on a Sunday night!
(4)Julie G.
Wow. This is the place for chirstmas decorations it is loaded and done very nicely. If you want to eat in the holiday spirt this is the place. I'll let u know latter about the food.
(3)Michael C.
The pizza is good, the service sucks and the 'Italian' food is a bad imitation of Italian food. If your thinking of heading towards Comos next time you in Ferndale, just walk by and go to the next place.
(2)Phillip K.
what's up with como's? i usually enjoy the place, but i recently had a pizza from there and the food and service were atrocious! i will give it another shot, because i have been going there for several years, but in a town of great pizza places, it will have a short leash. 3 stars, and one is based purely on fond memories.
(3)Kyle S.
Pizza is pretty good, the owner is a creeper, the food is overpriced, the patio is nice in the summer, i've heard stories of the staff smoking in the kitchen near the salad bar, and have been warned not to order anything that isn't deep fried.. $3 well drinks
(3)Jason M.
A Ferndale institution, but if you haven't seen it in awhile you won't recognize it. They bumped it upscale, but the pizza is still good. And they're open late.
(4)vin m.
Way burnt pizza and over priced entrees. The bill came and they charged us too much. When we went to question it, the waiter said it before we did, which means he knew. I will not go back and I really don't get why this place is busy.
(2)Jen M.
Back when I used to live in Michigan, Como's was a must after I left the club or bar or someone's house at 2 a.m. I mean, they have this great patio, are open after the bars close, and the pizza is incredible (at least when I've been drunk). The wait for food does take forever at that time since it seems like everyone and their brother stops in after the clubs and bars close down, but when you finally get that pizza, it makes the wait seem worth it. I have been here during normal hours, completely sober and the vibe just doesn't seem to be the same. But the food is still decent. I look forward to coming here after a night at the bar the next time I come to Michigan.
(4)Matthew D.
como's is a good place to go if you want to "go out" for pizza instead of ordering in. my favorite pizza of all time is spinach, mushroom and sundried tomatos with extra sauce, well done. and como's does it pretty well. i've had the salad, and it's really nothing to write home about, i would recommend an extra piece of pizza instead. the patio is awesome, and is one of the best parts about this place. the bar is a bit overdone, and i have to say i've never been in it during the night time hours... but i can imagine a lot of dudes with their hair slicked back and the intentional faux-beard (you know... the one george clooney made famous?) talking on their cell phones drinking single malt scotches from some dude named glen. and yes, i'm making a shotgun judgement based on the image of the bar. deal with it. located in the heart of downtown ferndale, stop by a local pub and grab a brew afterwards.
(3)Enrique B.
I really hate this place. The "service" can only be described as glacial. I just left after waiting 20 minutes to place a food order. Never again.
(1)Lori G.
This is by far one of the best New York Style Pizza's I've ever had. The resaurant itself has a great atmosphere, whether you sit at the bar, in the restaurant area or out on the patio. I would highly recomend.
(5)M T.
Time to put this place to rest already. I wouldn't serve my enemy anything off the menu. Everyone says the pizza is great but I have yet to have one there that didn't come to the table either overcooked or undercooked. Service is the worst in the city, especially on the patio. The patio is the only thing this place could have going for it except it's nearly impossible to get a drink out there and the drinks are overpriced and under mixed. Dinners are far overpriced for the quality you receive.
(1)Cherice J.
Right in the heart of Ferndale, Como's is always a good option for happy hour or during the weekend. It's hard to miss the red awning as you drive down Woodward. When it's so beautiful outside, you just want to sit outside on the patio and enjoy some pizza with your friends. While I agree that the pizza is not the best in the world, it is good and definitely goes well with a nice alcoholic beverage. They also have live entertainment every now and then, which makes the place even more packed during the summer. Prices are roughly $15 a person, maybe a little less if you just want an appetizer.
(3)Dillon T.
Como's in the summer time on the patio is one of my favorite outings. I am a big fan of the pizza and hanging out on one of the best patio's in the Detroit area. For all the good; I echo some of the comments on service for your side salad that comes with your entree. You also have to ask folately. I have been there twice this summer and both times the service was not very good. Specifically, you have to ask for everything - even ask for the bread basket. I am there to enjoy a meal and drinks - not to remind the wait staff to do there job. I asked about the side salad and our waitress looked at me like I was from Mars. She actually said: "Well, if you want a side salad you need to ask for it. If you really want one, I can make it for you". Also, we had a larger group and the plates piled up without anyone coming by to clean up during our stay. Pizza came out. No plates. We also noticed the pasta portions have shrunken. We asked for "to go box" for our pizza (2 slices left) and they gave us an entire large pizza box. Not a good sign. I want the old Como's I knew before back!
(4)Shelly C.
i don't get it. broccoli on the veggie pizza had freezer burn taste to it, pizza itself really dense and doughy ....garlic cheese bread cold and came with meat sauce for dipping (instead of the simple marinara one would assume the person ordering the *veggie* pizza would prefer.) i want to like it, but i can't get there
(2)Modestly I.
Pizza is great here, salads not so much. I do love the baked ravioli. Service is hit or miss, but this is a great spot for people watching.
(3)Groovefish W.
Food was good the waitstaff couldn't answer basic questions without running to the kitchen for answers. This was the first Italian restaurant I have ever been to that didn't have bread to serve with pasta only crackers. What up with that.
(2)Bryan A.
Pros: Excellent location within walking distance to several other bars, restaurants and music venues in Ferndale. Also, ample parking behind the building and at the nearby library if needed. Outside seating and very good pizza. Cons: Old, dated and dirty. Below average service in terms of hospitality and speed. The menus have been there since 1989. Bottom Line: If you want a good pizza and a couple of decent beers before a show at the Magic Bag, this place is a good fall-back spot if you cannot get into One-Eyed Bettys.
(2)Bryan S.
Came in and sat here for 35 minutes before a person took our drink order. Just across the room a couple came in just after our drink order was taken and they got their food before someone even returned to take our food order. Will not be back. Fack this place.
(1)A. N.
SERIOUSLY: DO NOT EAT HERE! I know several people who have worked here and expressed how the kitchen is "ran" and by "ran" I mean expired, old and freezer burnt food. Rancid and left out in the summer heat, dropped on the floor or worse. This place needs to be condemned. There is no way that lady como isn't paying to pass health codes. Not to mention the retched "dance" music and crappy lighting. Comos go home. You're drunk.
(1)Joey S.
The best pizza this side of New York City !!!!! The best pizza you'll ever taste. Always great.
(5)Monica J.
Worst experience I've ever had. After waiting an hour and a half for our pizza (on my friends birthday) we left. Our server ignored us so long it took 40 minutes to flag him down for a can of PBR. They tried bringing our pizza out as we were leaving and it was as wrong as could possibly be, they tried charging us for 8 beers we didn't get and my friend (who manages the restaurant I work at) had to show our server how to ring our items up properly. This place is a joke.
(1)Billy D.
Don't get me started on Comos this past sunday. The server brought out our appetizer & boyfriends food at once. My pizza about 40 minutes later. Then when he asked for a pear martini-came out with a neon blue drink then asked for a real pear martini, which then came out neon green. She would throw down side plates, not ask how we were and then said (about 40 minutes being there) "Its our first patio day and we are really under staffed not knowing it would be this busy!". REALLY??? Your one of the only patios in Ferndale. Como's is such a shit show. If theres one thing there consistant on-its crappy service.
(1)Htiderem N.
I used to love this place. But when I walked in tonight I had a very disgusting old dirty you smell to it. Our waiter was amazing, I will say that. But our pizza was a little bit burnt, all three of them. And the waitstaff were smoking in the bar and it was seeping into the restaurant obviously. It's been going downhill in quality for years but tonight was bad.
(1)Judie L.
I used to think I liked it here but maybe it was because I only came for drinks. It's been one full hour and no one in the restaurant has food. And no apologies, explanations or anything. Worst. Service. Ever.
(1)Leelee G.
What a dump. Stopped to get just a beer yesterday afternoon while out in a bike ride. The bartender had headphones on & never took them out the whole time we were there. When I asked if the bar was open he didn't answer me at all. I asked again louder and he said "what?" As in he didn't hear me (where a normal human would say pardon me?). I asked again louder and he said "yeah" and looked away. We did stay for a beer. If we planned on eating or a longer stay we definitely would have left and gone some place else. The kid's personal appearance wasn't what I would consider presentable for work in my bar/restaurant. And he never took his earphones out. A dirty looking bartender that is allowed to tend bar with PLUGS IN HIS EARS...WTF is that about? That is insane. I might normally say something to the manager regarding this, but I'm pretty sure he was the slob shoving 2 folded pieces of pizza down his throat and talking with his mouth full right there standing near the bar. If this were my restaurant heads would be rolling by these kinds of goings on. This place is a pit and I'll never step foot in it again.
(1)Marty F.
I've been here several times, twice for food, once for karaoke, and a couple other occasions, I was basically dragged here. First, the food: the first time I got calimari. No flavor whatsoever, and I'm pretty sure it comes pre frozen, in a bag, and it seems I got the crumbs in the bottom of said bag. Second time, I ordered the sirloin. I don't know where they get their meat from, but it couldn't have even been choice. It was so fatty (I don't even know how that's possible with such a lean cut) and cooked medium well (when I asked for rare). I tried my friends pizza. It was "meh". Not good but not bad. I'd rather eat stop spots pizza. The decor is outdated and corny, the service is always awful, and the guy who did the karaoke the one night I went there was a jerk. He was obviously picking favorites. How this place has been in business for so long is beyond me.
(1)Victor G.
Took us 2 hours to get food (party of 5). Our waitress was terrible and had no idea what was on tap. From when we ordered our beer, it took 25 minutes to get them. Pizza tastes like peanut oil. Manager did not seem to care at all about our objections to the food or service. Don't waste your time, I've tried this place on 3 separate occasions and it always disappoints.
(1)Danielle R.
I haven't been here in about 15 years. But the service that I had today was awful and so was the food. Now I understand why I haven't been here in so long. And the waitress was disrespectful and rude. Waitress lady with the big black glasses on with no lenses, please get out of customer service.
(1)Andrew M.
Went there for a birthday dinner. Cook didnt make start any food for an hour and a half. Ending up cancelling order and getting pizza. No management said a word to the table.
(2)Jeannie S.
So I went here for dinner on a Sunday night. We went here because I remembered it being a nice place for a good meal & the original restaurant we wanted was closed. I can say the staff was extremely friendly & helpful. The food is typical American Italian eatery fare. It's good but it's not outstanding. That said what struck me first is the decor hasn't been updated in decades. It's the same as it was when Iw as a kid. Second was the odor. It smells like it hasn't had a thourough cleaning in those same decades. They also charged me for the dressing on my dinner salad that is included with the meal. A salad mind you that was all lettuce, a generous handful of red onions, 3 garbanzo beans & one olive. I will not be returning.
(1)Michael C.
Their pizza has a great crust and sauce! Also try their steak or salmon salads. The coffee is quite nice also
(5)Kathy H.
Terrible food, service and atmosphere. Tried lunch here with some coworkers and will never be back again! - The soup I ordered never came - The antipasto salad had 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of salami - The italian dressing is nothing but oil - completely tasteless - I spent $14 on a bowl of iceberg lettuce covered in oil with a diet coke - The girl cutting the bread was eating it at the same time - and not wearing gloves - The employees were completely unprofessional in their dress and manners within the restaurant area - one was greeting guests while chewing
(1)David B.
What a great pizza, I have not had a a pizz like this in a very long time. Forget the Jerts, Howies and Papas this is Great Old Time Family Pizza from the old days. The service was great and the pizza arrived in record time. The great beer selection and special were very reasonable. I cant wait untill the patio opens in the spring. I hear it the place to be. I will be back soon FOR SURE.
(5)Tony H.
Prefect corner spot and in the heart of Ferndale, this charming privately owned Italian restaurant has been around for over 50 years. Don't why so many people dog this place out. Their pizzas and entrees are always on point. The patio is a great place to hang out with friends and there's always some kind of live entertainment. Prefect place for after bar hours to chill and to grab something to eat.
(5)Meloney J.
The food, service, accommodations and prices were all on point!!! My group was large and unplanned, but no worries. The manager quickly put some tables together and welcomed my large party with open arms!!!! I will most definitely return in the near future!!!!!
(5)Deborah R.
Comos comos Comos... What we have here is the standard love/hate relationship. While I absolutely love your beautiful and fun patio area, your supreme barbecue chicken pizza, and your delicious rib tips with that zip sauce there are some things I just can't get over. Your service! it's awful! I can say it a hundred times or you can look at the reviews- it's just not good. But Comos, you can be saved. Your late hours are what saves you. If not anything else, if you are the only place around serving me or delivering to me until 4am then I am going to be a huge fan of yours. And that's exactly what you do- every time I call you at 2am. You always answer and deliver me the most delicious after hours food around. And for that I love you.
(4)Jen S.
I will only get the pizza here, and then only when everything else around is closed. Its okay, but overpriced for the lack of quality. A lot of the vegetables are canned. The service is inconsistent. Sometimes, good.. other times terrible.
(3)Jake A.
I wanted to give it a few more tries before I actually wrote this review. Como's is a place to skip. You should never have to wait an hour and a half for a pizza, there's just no reason. Como's pizza used to be legendary, but it's not anymore, very plain and run of the mill. But the real tragedy here is the service. The staff is slow and inattentive, and you can go vast amounts of time without even seeing them. Ironically, every time my waiter/waitress showed back up, they are armed with some sort of excuse as to why they haven't been by my table in awhile. Patterns are patterns though, and it all points to an ineffective operating structure. For being so established in the area and having a great location, it's a shame that Como's has undergone such a lapse in quality. I hope one day it changes, and I will gladly and only return when such a day is upon us. I do like the patio though. Patio's are awesome.
(2)Deena D.
This has always been my favorite place for pizza. However, I'm not a fan of other menu items. The spaghetti is probably the worst I have ever had...I can only describe it as being similar to an awful knock off of chef boyardee. But it's the first place I go to for drinks and pizza.
(3)Ashley H.
Whoa, didn't know that late night Saturdays turn into Club Como's. We stopped by one Saturday around 1:45 for last call and pizza and walked in to a strange situation. Electronic dance music was pumping through the dimly lit bar area (not that I don't like EDM, I just didn't expect it at Como's). There were tables of drunk patrons in the dining area, complete with a girl who had just finished puking in the restroom now passed out at the table while her friends mow down on pizza. My usual visits to Como's are in the summer to sit on their patio. We always stick with pizza and salad. Friends that have strayed from that have been sorely disappointed. Like others have said, the pizza is awesome, the rest is absolutely horrible. I really like the salads too. They have fresh veggies atop romaine lettuce.
(3)Hillary L.
This was always a favorite haunt when I lived in Ferndale. I visited again recently. The pizza is old fashioned and simply good. Fried zucchini was piping hot & delicious. Our server was brand spanking new & service was great. I don't get the low ratings...
(4)Mike L.
No stars that's right folks. I've eaten here before and the service has never been anything to right home about....but the food and the patio made up for it but tonight...well..we got seated pretty fast but the seat collapsed when I sat down...I'm 185 and I did not launch myself into the chair...not the real clincher was a 20 minute wait and no server presented themselves ..so I called them using the yelp phone number and asked them how long a patron could expect to sit before seeing a member of the wait staff..he asked if I was a seated patron...to which I said yes...he said he would send someone right out...I gave him my coordinates...and no server...so after 10 minutes..we went to the Woodward avenue brew house..where the wait staff had our drink order within 30 seconds of being seated. Cosmos...better figure it out fast..you are at 2.5 stars now and with my no star rating you are headed to the toilet where you belong. Ciao for now.
(1)Guillermo A.
You know.. I went on my first date here years ago and I loved it, I just recently went back and it was awful... idk if you guys changed the cooks but my shrimp pasta had shells on them... my dates stuffed shrimp looked microwaved and was on top of iceberg lettuce (brown at that)... not romaine! Our waiter had dreds, he looked confused.. id ask for salt and ketchup and a drink and he brought me everything 10 minutes apart.. we were suppose to get spaghetti with our meals and never did,.. . my fries were undercooked and had paprika all over them, why? I have no clue... I couldve went to McDonald's and spend time 10 dollars and been more satisfied... the only reason this place gets one star is because I had to give at least one.... its just really been ran down hill..., probably will not be returning
(1)Joe T.
This is a hangout in Ferndale. That is all it is. Their pizza is overpriced and subpar. Their drinks prices are typically crappy to tolerable at best. They are worth a stop on a Ferndale barcrawl (probably at the end of the night when you want pizza and your culinary/monetary inhibitions are low). I will give them credit for being a good bar with a prominent location - but they brag about being a pizza joint. That isn't cool. They are a hangout bar that will serve pizza and sell pizza later into the night (which is convenient for the ravenous and inebriated. So no incentive to make a great product. Just make something that sells. You get my drift.
(2)Luis V.
Do not get their pastas... Sauces taste canned. Their pizzas are mediocre. service was good.
(2)Dawn C.
Just had dinner here with bf, seated quickly for a Saturday night. We had a groupon which the waiter was cool with. We ordered a pizza and a few appetizers, steak bites, fried ravioli and wings. The apps came out quickly and were good. The pizza was tasty, fresh and hot. Our waiter was friendly and laid back. I know this place is old school considering all the hipster bars and restaurants nearby, but we had a decent meal here and will definitely return. One small thing, there was a weird smell in there, especially noticeable by the back entryway, like old food or something.
(3)Joe B.
If I were to rate this place on Pizza alone I would give Comos a 4. I love their pizza. But lets face it this place is a mess. It always seems to be way overstaffed and the employees always seem to be confused. That outdoor patio area could easily be one of the hottest spots around with its prime location and spacious natural atmosphere. Watched the bar tender leave the bar multiple times without even acknowledging the people people sitting there. Watched one couple leave shaking their heads after a sitting there for several minutes. Take out pizza is the only way to go.
(2)Jeff Z.
I ordered a slab of ribs and they were just not edible. They were cold and tough. I think I've had my last visit to Como's. It's a shame. It used to be a great restaurant
(1)W. John R.
I struggled between two and three stars. I've been here in the summer, sat on the patio, and ordered pizza. That was a good experience, despite long waits between seeing staff members. The pizza is tasty, with a nice variety of quality toppings available. Fast forward to a trip here during the winter. The inside of the building smells and the decor is tired. The odor reminded me of the inside of an empty garbage can that hasn't been cleaned in awhile. The pasta and chicken dishes were good, but not great. The marinara sauce on the side spaghetti tastes like tomato sauce with no seasoning. The veggies tasted fresh and crisp and the chicken was breaded nicely, but the ravioli looked and tasted like it came frozen out of a package. We explained to the server that we were in a hurry to catch a show nearby and needed the check. She brought the check promptly; then disappeared for 10+ minutes (apparently went on break). Eventually we flagged down a different server to take our credit cards. Definitely poor judgment, right at the time when gratuity is decided. We still tipped well, but I'm not sure I plan on going back.
(2)Dean S.
$50 for a couple drinks and average to below average food. The service was ATROCIOUS. Snide, slow...would disappear for 15-20 minutes then not bring what was asked. Stay far far away
(1)Emily T.
Finally tried Comos for the first time. I'm kind of on the fence with this review. The entrees were good, but none of us were really wowed. The service wasn't very good. We asked for beer on tap and they brought out bottled beer instead. The waitress forgot to bring out our bread/breadsticks until after we ate. And that's where I'm really going to judge. A good Italian restaurant should have good Italian bread, this stuff was like wonder bread. Good bread isn't that costly, invest in it! Everyone loves bread. I feel like Comos is just missing something overall (besides good bread). They are in a great location, in a great city. That place should have been packed on a friday night. It was kind of dead. The atmosphere, service, and experience just needs a little upgrading. I'll probably go back, because I want to root for this place that's been in business forever!
(2)Paul A.
This place needs Robert Irvine and restaurant impossible to come and turn it around. This place back in the day was top notch. It was one of my go to places. Especially for late night food. Now it is horrible. I can't believe it had turned into this dump. The food was horrible. I used to love the pizza here, and now it ranks on the bottom of my list. The decor is old. The place is dirty and looks like it has not had a deep cleaning in a long time. If the dining area is like this I would hate to see the kitchen. Also the owner seems like she does not care anymore. We complained to the waitress how bad the food was. The only thing decent was the salad and pizza. Everything else did not taste good and was sent back. I could see our waitress go and tell the owner. Only for the owner to give the expression like oh well. The owner just kept smoking her cigarettes at the bar. Even thou there is a non smoking law in michigan. This place is so disappointing for it to turn into this. What was once a landmark for good pizza and italian food, is now horrible. I will never go back to this place unless I see a sign that says new ownership or the show restaurant impossible comes to help it.
(1)Kattrina H.
Appetizers : non breaded beef tips with zip sauce and toasted ravioli. For entrees we ordered chicken picante and lasagna. Everything was equally good! Service was great. My favorite thing about this visit was definitely the toasted ravioli! I love that Como's is open later than most restaurants in this area, very convenient after the bar or just for a late night craving!
(4)Esther G.
Go for the post-drinking food binge, stay for the um, I don't know. Not much. We split the appetizer platter, a giant plate of everything breaded and fried imaginable: wings, tenders, toasted ravioli, cauliflower, cheese poppers ... I'm feeling slightly ill just thinking about it. But the best part was the soft slices of bread with a slightly hard crust with butter, and didn't sit in my stomach like the appetizer plate did. Best of all, the bread was free. Nothing beats this place in the summer though when you're sitting out on the patio with the sun shining, in a good mood -- the food doesn't even seem so bad. During the winter times inside, not as much, yet you find yourself there anyway.
(2)Joe B.
I've lost the only reason I ever ordered from here. Where did your normal toasted ravioli go Como? Whatever brand you used had this delicious and addictive hint of jalapeno in them and I raved about these little fried delights.....to everyone as it were!!! Seriously they were like crack served with a side of good ranch (maybe the best in Ferndale) and marinara sauce, but last morning when my pizza and rav showed up at my door at 3 am the ravioli was straight up WRONG! They were bland, the filling was grainy and the outside over crispy as if it was covered in panko instead of Italian breadcrumbs. It was the kind of toasted (fried) ravioli that McDonald's should be selling if their marketing geniuses decided to make a shift to "Italian" foods. Your ravioli Como, were previously way WAY better! Your pizza has never called to me in the middle of the night and despite the fact that your very courteous delivery drivers will show up after the witching hour with food for me, it was always the ravioli and the calamari that I craved....and fried squid, even when it's done perfectly just isn't that great no matter how good it is. I'm guessing times are hard since you've also downgraded your packaging to some generic pizza box....and hopefully it's not just to save a few ducats. I've loved you over the years Como but this relationship has run it's course and it's finally over. Your prices were always way too high and your food just OK but even with your 3 am delivery, without your ravioli it's a deal breaker. All the best to you.
(2)Sean H.
I really want to like this place... They are in a perfect location, have a great patio with TV's. Pizza is good, but the rest of the food is just average. The real downfall is the service... Have been there 2x this summer... First time we sat on the patio for 10+ minutes, no service. Asked another waitress and she said ours would be there shortly... after 20ish minutes, we decided to leave.. Second time was Dream Cruise and we were at a table on the patio. They had a ton of people working but we never had 1 person of the waitstaff come to our table... Luckily the bartenders were good, they got all of our business that night.
(3)Andy S.
Disappointing pizza, can't believe this place survived so long, great views of woodward is about it
(1)Betty T.
used to live within walking distance, always was and still is a great place to hang out a little further to drive but well worth it
(5)Randy B.
We came here before going to Go Comedy and because I love old world Italian. Big mistake. First the good, the waitress was wonderful, that's it for the good. Now the bad I ordered angel hair pasta with shrimp and scallops. I got tempura battered shrimp and the worlds smallest scallops, and that was their second attempt, the first time they didn't put any on the pasta. Really sad. Two people ordered pizza which came out 15 minutes after everyone else's meal. When the pizza came we were told that they had no clean plates so they brought out salad plates. With all the great places in Ferndale now I don't recommend eating here.

The service here is atrocious. The "new" Como's sounded good on paper. I heard it was gay friendly, they had drink specials, every first wednesday of the month they have a party and i like a place with a patio.I was in love with the toasted ravioli when i tried it, and they have some great spaghetti. But 80% the time the service made the visit unenjoyable. It took forever to get water, and then forever to get drinks. Once, the appetizer came long after the pizza came and we have had more than a couple of people act like they just dont' want to be there. My friend and I are both servers, so we always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but we have consistenly gotten poor service on busy and slow days. So why go back? Well the people are pretty cool are the bar, even if the drinks aren't. The food is good, though I've had better pizza. And there are a FEW servers in there that take what they do seriously and actually take care of their tables. I'd go, get the pizza or pasta, SKIP the drinks.

Definitely not what I remember. The service was good. Host seemed to have just woken up from a nap. The server was nice and friendly. Drinks came reasonably quick as did the food. Not sure if there are new owners or what, but the pizza I remember is not what is being served now. So many other great places to eat....

We had a "large" party on Thursday night (about 17). The host had called ahead and from my understanding they said it would be *no problem*, they would seat us on the patio, and we could also get two separate bills for the table to help us split things up. That didn't happen. That waiter was also a bit of a jerk at some points. I still tipped OK because my friend made me....but he was making occasional semi-rude comments to myself - or just flat out ignoring things people asked of him- and I saw him being snide with others too. He was very **visibly** irritated to have had to deal with all of us, like he was doing us a huge favor. It was rude. Big party or not, deal with it man. I was a wait-person myself at several restaurants in the past and that kind of service is just uncalled for. No one at the table had done anything to provoke that (as if that's even acceptable anyway, what happened to customers being right? LOL not these days and NOT at Como's). On top of that, while the food is decent at Como's, it's over-priced. I have been there several times after a Mega 80's night at Magic Bag and wouldn't remember the service because I of course had been drinking each time. Last night I was pretty dead sober though. I just remember the food being fine but not cheap eats. I am not sure if all the patio servers act this way but someone really needs to talk to management because it appears many others have had JUNK service on the patio as well. Booooo! And to our waiter last night, you sucked. No one came in there specifically to give you a hard time and make you actually GET things like food and drinks for us. Our bad. If it had been up to me, our tip would NOT have been as much as it was but you were smart in directing what seemed to be your only ration of nice-ness to the one person hosting and collecting the money. You managed to squeeze out a couple smiles and pretend like you were having fun waiting on us, with her at least.

A lot of terrible reviews for this place. I can only tell you of my experience. Strolling around the area and finding that most places in the area close early, I walked in here to find the place still open and only a few customers inside. I seated myself and a waiter arrived promptly I didn't bother with a menu and ordered a pizza. It arrived quick and hot and really was as good as some of the area's best. Ferndale really isn't my kind of place and I don't know when I'll be back but I will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area.

Eh the "spaghetti" was swimming in water, a moat around the spaghetti of sorts. In a word "bad." The service was awful...like the others here say, you almost have to scream to get someones attention. ...Never ever again.

You know I want to like this place. I really do! But My experience is that you seem to be safe with the Pizza, drinks and appetizers (The steak bites are great!.) I've never had a problem with the staff, but as far as their meals go..yeah a little lacking and inconsistent. There seems to be a fifty fifty chance of everything on your plate coming out well. But it is what it is? I just might be jaded because Ive had better Italian fare elsewhere. Plus, I'm very keen on cleanliness and recall going in and seeing cob webs on the sides of the picture hanging next to our booth and layers of dust. Ew. Your kitchen might be clean?...but I have to assume the worst if your tired decor hasn't seen a good spray of pledge in awhile!
