Great breakfast, inexpensive. Service was quick, staff was very friendly. This is now my Escanaba morning go to.

We went here based on the suggestion of a relative. First impression was of badly cracked booth seats and carpet that my sandals seemed to stick to. I ordered a half egg salad sandwich and cup of chili. The chili was fine but the egg salad was more dressing than it was eggs. The staff were pleasant and the serving portions large but I wouldn't eat here again. If the public area is so run down, it makes me wonder about the food areas.

Gave them a "last chance" this weekend, as we were craving a salad bar and they have one of the very few in town. Salad Bar was fresh and overall very good. Service was refreshingly excellent, the young waitress was very helpful and extremely nice, which was a major change from my past visits. The reason for 2 stars was the nearly inedible main dishes. Mashed potatoes were severely undercooked and lumpy, gravy had an odd reddish non-food color and consistency. My Teriyaki Chicken was swimming in a thick, overpowering, straight off the food service truck sauce that rendered the chicken and rice inedible. The teacher I was eating with stated that the quality of the meals, especially the sauces, were well below what is served at a public school. I'd like to support a local establishment, but man, that food was terrible! If you go to Elmer's, stick to the basic hamburger and fries fare, as the dinner selections look and taste like Aramark prison food.

While visiting family, they took me to Elmer's on Friday for the fish fry and it was outstanding! The waitstaff was attentive and professional. The experience was fantastic from start to finish.

I enjoy eating at Elmers with my family and friends. Their salad bar is my favorite. The food is normally good. However I think there is only a couple people out of their wait staff that is half way decent. I was there and one of the waitresses was making a big deal out of getting a $2.00 tip. She ended up being my waitress at the time and we could barely understand what she was saying and was very rude. She was more concerned about gossiping about other tables than asking if we needed anything else.

Elmer's is your classic diner-type joint. I was passing through Escanaba and was in need for breakfast. The food was really good. I ordered the corned beef hash, it wasn't homemade but it was still delicious. The service was really good too. I'd definitely come back for a good breakfast.

Solid diner food. If you go for breakfast, I recommend the Eggs Benedict. Great place to sit at the counter and read the paper.

Took forever to get. Every order was wrong. Lots of waiters standing around doing nothing.. Same with cooks. Do not come here.

I haven't tried them for dinner, but they have a great breakfast selection! I always get an omelette when I eat there and it's consistently delicious. Servers are friendly and attentive. I always eat in the front of the restaurant... the back rooms is very dated looking.

Wish I could give no stars. Food was beyond bad, service was borderline (one waitress was picking out paint colors for her house as 7 plates sat under the warmer lights)! It felt grimy, yes the decor is tired, but the place seemed in need of cleaning. My husband's comment was that he thought it was the worst place he'd ever eaten! The bread on his sandwich was so dry it fell apart when he lifted it. Amazed it stays open. I wonder if the health department has been there lately?

Had the half size chicken dinner, and it was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but a good value wth veggies, potato, salad and a decent piece of chicken. Friendly service.

I like Elmers. I'm from the west coast, and only come through Escanaba once a year on the way to deer camp. But for the last 5 years, my dad and I have made it a point to stop at Elmers on the way through town, usually twice, once for dinner, and once from breakfast. This is middle American 'comfort food', and they do it well. I LOVE their Mushroom and Swiss burger. I like the fact that the place is family run, and you can tell that the family is actively involved. Its always clean and decorated for the holidays. The staff is prompt and friendly. I noticed that they have eliminated smoking in the past couple years, a good move. I dinged them down a star for the coffee. Pretty weak. But then again I'm from Seattle, and were kind of picky about our coffee.

Elmer's offers pretty standard diner fare for the most part. Their breakfast always hits the spot after a night out. They have a large lunch/dinner menu that is what you would expect from a "home cookin" type of place. Nothing exciting but nothing terrible either. One turn off is that they have an open kitchen that looks kind of dingy - grease splattered on the walls, etc. Not very appetizing, especially if you're sitting at the bar. It shouldn't take that much to clean that up!

It was okay, nothing to exciting. There aren't many choices at 4:00 p.m 2 of the places we tried to go to didn't open until 5 pm. It's just standard food, the waitress couldn't even give us an idea of something she enjoys eating there.

Boring old-people food. Then again, if you're an old person who likes boring food, you might like Elmer's.
