River Cafe is our favorite summer restaurant. We come back many times a summer for several reasons. My husband loves the perch and I love the imperial shrimp dinner. The special salads are always the best with creative combinations topped with homemade dressings - unbeatable! Most of all we love sitting on the patio enjoying the view, which is often of the sun setting, in such a relaxed atmosphere. They also have a special deal for your birthday!!

On a the way home from toledo, my husband, grandson and I we're starving after what was already 3 hour ride, this place popped up on a restaurant search and looked like somewhere my 8 year old grandson would like, being right on a river. What a pleasant surprise this place was, we ate on the deck, so we could watch the boats and wildlife, as we ate. Then the food was exceptional, first the appitizer, THE BEST coconut shrimp I've ever had the breading had a slight cinnamon taste paired with a strawberry cream for dipping ( my grandson never liked shrimp until he tried these), then the clam chowder soup was also the best I've ever had, it was fresh homemade and light not so heavy like other restaurants that after you eat theirs you have no room left for your entrée. Also my grandson tasted mine and begged for his own. My husband had a special, perch and walleye, Loved it, breading wasn't too thick and fries were fresh cut potatoes not frozen. My grandson had the walleye sliders HUGE, and as he exclaimed, SUPER GOOD. I opted for the lightly pan fried grouper with shrimp and spinach REALLY REALLY YUMMY! Waitstaff was very nice and accommodating. There was kind of a bar crowd there but for a Friday night, I was still comfortable having my grandson their. I think every trip to Ohio, from now on will include a meal there!

We really love this place, and have been driving up to point place to have seafood for years. It's clear after only a couple of visits, that most of the regulars are neighborhood people. Grab a table for two, in the corner, and enjoy the people watching as well as the nature / river watching. During warmer months, sitting outside on the deck can be a lovely experience. The food is basic, covering fried lake perch, lots of shrimp options, burgers etc. They have some nice apps including a fried artichoke we love. I've pretty much always gone with the Seafood platter (perch, shrimp & scallops with two sides) and have always enjoyed it. Last night I ordered the same, after a winter hiatus from visits and something had changed. The food was prepared much nicer than previous visits. Instead of generic frozen vegetable sides, the zucchini was delicately prepared, and the fried seafood seemed to have gotten some sort of upgrade in cooking process. Not greasy at all with a great thin crust. My wife tried the sliders which were HUGE (way more food than we expected) and I gladly munched on some of her fries. The fries are really good, with a batter that adds lots of flavor and texture. The river Cafe is a great hole in the wall type place, with a lovely view of the Ottawa river. It's location, just over the border in michigan, and just a windy enough of a drive for most that it's too out of the way, makes it a great place to enjoy a nice meal while feeling like you're taking a break from the city of Toledo that is literally feet away.

C'mon guys you can and have done better than this. )Sorry Dustin) but two of us had the seafood platter one of us had the shrimp basket. All of the fish except the scallops were WAY overcooked! Darn! Drinks are the best though. The patio in the summer is excellent. Service is good. But C'mon guys - I don't know if you read these but you have done better!
