First, I need to pose a question to myself and the readers of Yelp. How many restaurants have you driven by a thousand times, and said to yourself "I really need to check that place out sometime?" Holy mother of god, what an epically pleasant surprise we experienced today. After years of keeping Angelo's on our "we need to go there someday" list, we finally took the plunge. As we entered the enormous main dining room, I was struck with the feeling I was walking into a time capsule. Not of a specific bygone era, but rather several bygone eras perfectly mashed up. Mobster era touches, mixed with 80's excess and some minor contemporary luxury notes to top it off. The vintage 80's wallpaper is uh-mazing. Dark blue hues with tiling geometric patterns and flowers. Mirrors everywhere reflect not only the wallpaper, but the gorgeous chandeliers and the bizarro bronze dome like thing in the middle of the ceiling. Seriously... the atmosphere is stunning, striking and not like anywhere else. The napkins are even fanned out in the glasses. Off in the distance, we saw a room that clearly inhabits live music on the weekends. There was a disco ball I really would have loved to have seen lit up. There was 80's radio playing in the background. Everything was a little off, but worked so well together. I can't wait to go back on a friday to see the place packed with people and a live band. For the food? It was perfect! Some of the items, like the side salads and complementary bread were pretty average and un-surprising. The "flaming cheese" was not the same Saganaki we find at greek restaurants in Toledo. No, this was a thinner softer piece of cheese that I suspect was simply mozz. It's hard to tell after it's been flamed with booze, but it was good. My wife's steak was excellent. She got a petit filet and really liked it. She's not one for mushrooms, but she ate all of the ones served on top. She likes her steak well done, ordered it medium well... and next time probably will just order medium. And my veal? Easily some of the best veal I've ever had. I ordered the "Veal Ducale." Milk fed veal sauteed with butter, shitaki mushrooms, prosciutto and walnuts served in a brandy bleu cheese sauce. It was as good as it sounds. Like seriously. I ate every bite, and even lapped up a bit of the sauce awkwardly with my fork because I couldn't get enough. This place is unlike anywhere else on earth. The food is solid and the atmosphere is unique and memorable. The service is good, and the location is so unexpected (just over the border in Michigan from toledo, surrounded by fields.) If you live in Toledo and love unique experiences, you have to check this place out.

So decided to give them another try after a 3 hr wait with a reservation on New Years Eve. Thought maybe it was just the holiday. Made a reservation today. Never again!!! When we arrived we were told an hour wait to just sit down....with a RESERVATION!! After more than an hour we walked out. They have ruined a good restaurant with horrible management!! Never again!!

Went to Angelo's for dinner last weekend and was monumentally unimpressed. Food was average or below for a steak house. However for an upscale restaurant it was bad. Food was mediocre and there was a hair in our appetizer! I would expect a visit from management at that point but we were not addressed. The musician was too loud for a dining setting, perhaps he should play in the cocktail lounge. Don't waste your time and money.

This place has a uniqueness about it. It's a bit of a throwback to the old supper club days. I like it! A charming, gaudy dining room. Table cloths (that's always good), candles on the table, and complementary cheesy bread appetizers (really good). The steaks and seafood are very good, and they're served with what's called a zip sauce, that has the most amazing flavor. I hope Angelo's survives for a long time.

I almost missed it driving by. It really isn't much to look at from the outside and to be honest the inside is a little dated..... OK. A lot dated. It looks like something from the 20's. I half expected to see a gangster in a fedora come through the door. Now, although the decor is dated, it is clean. The restaurant has several dining rooms including a bar and..... get this.....a separate cigar bar. Yup.. Ya don't hear that much any more, A cigar bar including humidor. I actually liked that. The menu is also a little dated, but again.... good. I ordered the Flaming Cheese!!! Nothing better to announce to the the entire restaurant that your appetizer has arrived than Flaming Cheese!!! I planned on ordering it and then complaining about how bad it was..... Bad plan.... it was really good. It was caserri cheese smothered in brandy and then then set on fire, they allowed to burn the alcohol off and then an wedge of lemon is sprinkled over the top. Kinda like a fondue without the fondue bowl. I do wish the bread was a little more crispy, but other than that.... very good. The salad was nothing to yelp about..... a typical salad. I think it was a Salad Bag that you could buy at Kroger, but it wasn't wilted or old. They only had one small lonely cherry tomato on the plate. Poor thing..... I almost felt sorry for it. I ordered the 9 oz fillet for my entree along with something they called burnt asparagus (poor choice in name if you ask me) and french fries which I ask to be extra crispy. The burnt asparagus was actually asparagus in a brown butter sauce over toasted bread, and it was gooooood. The bread soaked up a little of the brown butter sauce and the asparagus was fresh and Delicious. The french fries...... not so much so. They were were crispy..... let alone extra crispy, and to be honest I only took a couple of bites and left the rest. I ordered the stead on a charred platter. I had no idea what that meant but I figured what the hell. It was just a sizzling platter that they then put the steak on and then poured Au Jus over. They served it with some mushrooms and what I believe to be there steak sauce. At first I snubbed the mushroom/steak sauce. To me steak sauce is only used make a bad steak eatable. This was a mistake and I almost missed out on a real treat. I dipped my bread in the mushrooms and was VERY surprised by what I tasted and immediately poured the rest over my steak. I didn't have enough room to order desert, so I have no idea how good or bad it may have been. What I do know is that you shouldn't be put off by the dated appearance of this place. Give it a try and you will most likely be pleasantly surprised. The service was good and the food was better.

This place takes you back in time... ambiance is awesome! They even have a guy playing the piano (or maybe it was an organ) throwing in some classic rock mixing in greats like Sinatra... When we tipped this rockstar he made it a point to come over to our table and ask that we could hear him well enough since we were one of the farther away tables. Total class... They have multiple bars and rooms and I could imagine seeing some mob guys sitting in the corner... I was told to go there by a good friend for their perch, mind you I'm not typically a perch fan, but holy xxxx... it's a must!!! Order the Greek Perch and become a fan. Wait staff is just as awesome as the rockin piano guy....

We are from Pennsylvania, here for business. I am also not a fan of perch but decided to try it. It is delicious! Locals obviously eat here - a bit out of the way but worth stopping in.

Old school place with yummy eats! The wallpaper is from the 70s and the decor leaves a bit to be desired but it is a good classic place!!

The high school kids manning the door need an adult leader and greeter. The decor is outdated but has it's own charm. The bread basket is a basket of crackers. A solitary slice of parmesan bread made from baquette is served before the meal and left me wanting more. The veal ravioli was served in a creamy pancetta sauce that is absolutely dreamy. My husband's steak was good but he liked my ravioli better. The salads were under presented and not worth commenting about. The three people who were with us were unimpressed. The waitress saw the cake that we brought with us for a birthday guest and seemed put out when we asked if she could bring plates and forks. So much so that no one felt like singing OR tipping. But we did. Will try TO GO next time.

I was in Toledo on business staying off 75 on the northeast side. There was not much around my hotel worth checking out. Fast food, Applebee's, Bob Evans...So of course I go to yelp. I find this place 1.5 miles from the hotel. Food looks good, funky cool decor. I'm there. I saw some negative reviews around being busy on holidays. Crap, it's Saint Patty's Day. I decided to chance it and thank yelp I did. First the service was impeccable. I went early. It wasn't crowded at all. My server was eager to please. She was attentive but not intrusive Each course was served with perfect timing. The pace was good. Not to fast or slow. Very enjoyable. I never wanted for anything or felt rushed. The food. The French onion soup was really good. It had something aromatic that isn't the norm for French Onion. Delicious. I went with the Greek Perch with lemon butter sauce. Fantastic. It came with tartar sauce, good tartar sauce. Doesn't need it. I'm not sure if the lightly breaded fresh perch or the sauce was the star. And then there was the tiramisu. Oh my god the tiramisu, oh my god. Not what I would call a traditional tiramisu. The server said the made it there. It isn't my favorite in general but this was delicious. Less harsh alcohol and coffee and more light chocolate mousse, mocha, and slight cinnamon maybe. I don't know but it was really good. The decor. I could see how people would either love it or hate it. I loved it. I can't say what era exactly it comes from. It feels old, but not necessarily worn or tarnished. It was definitely clean and fresh but I could envision (not see or smell) a haze of smoke from another time. If this restaurant was 1.5 miles from my house I would eat there all the time. It is actually making me look forward to coming back to Toledo (sorry Toledo;).

What a wonderful dining experience again. Our food and drink were superb. The place was full up to 8 pm so we sat at the bar. My beef tips consisted of Filet and Penne in some kind of mystery sauce. Yum. My girlfriend had Pollo Romeo Juliet and she reports it to be delicious. If you like a Cigar after your dinner, there is a separate Cigar Bar in the bldg. away from the restaurant section. Guys and Gals both in there. What a cool place. Tony Soprano would have loved it.

We went here for dinner on New Year's Eve, so we expected to wait even with a reservation for our party of six. The hostesses seemed really overwhelmed and, honestly, really dressed down wearing flannel shirts and leggings. I was kind of surprised they didn't look nicer on a holiday. We were seated maybe 20-25 minutes after our reservation, which was totally fine with us, but there were other people who waited much longer and clearly weren't thrilled with how people were being seated. Our waitress was a little slow getting to our table, but we attributed that to how busy it was. Our meals did not take very long to come out after ordering, and in the meantime they kept our table full with drinks and warm bread. I ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly, very juicy and good but sparse seasoning, and a baked potato. The decor and layout was very interesting, as the restaurant was supposedly something of a speakeasy in another life. We were seated right off the bar area and could look over into the big ballroom room, where there was large inset lighting fixture in the ceiling. I could see a Great Gatsby-esque party happening here. There are also multiple bars, which I thought was pretty cool, and we spent our time waiting for our table there. One qualm I have with Angelo's is that the parking lot could use some additional lighting, considering you have to walk around the building to get to the entrance.

Having enjoyed meals at Angelo's on earlier occasions, we made reservations for my 30th birthday dinner, and deliberately arrived early in order to have a couple of pre-meal cocktails. We joined a handful of other customers enjoying food and drinks quietly at the restaurant bar. Our female bartender was friendly and prepared a pair of excellent gin martinis. That was the last good part of our experience. Two other young female employees-perhaps another bartender and a server-joined our bartender in the prep area at the end of the bar, and began to loudly converse about various topics ranging from how drunk one had gotten the night before and what sort of hangover she had afterward, to another's "boy toy" and related activity, all liberally sprinkled with various profanities, including several very audible f-bombs. We paid for our drinks and were about to go out to our car to pass the minutes before our table time away from the staff's rude and unprofessional banter. Just then one of the staff members who was slicing fruit directly in front of us began to complain loudly to her co-worker about some earlier "a__hole" customers and the lousy tips they had left. At first we thought this was all a put-on, as this restaurant aims for a fairly classy atmosphere, though it sort of ends up just being garish and tacky. In an attempt to get the young woman to rethink her attitude, my husband asked her point blank if the staff always complains about other patrons in front of customers. Her response was "yah" delivered in a condescending tone. We left, canceling our reservation on the way out. It seemed ridiculous to give the establishment another eighty or ninety dollars on top of the $22 we'd already spent on two drinks and a tip, after being subjected to behavior that would disqualify a good chunk of their staff from working at a fast food restaurant. It's too bad, because we had been looking forward to a nice meal celebrating a milestone birthday. We instead drove directly to a Main Street Ventures restaurant, where we were treated with kindness, professionalism, and respect. Angelo's Northwood Villa has some issues that need to be addressed.

We made the mistake of making a reservation on New Year's Eve. They were more than 90 minutes behind at 830pm. Clearly they overbooked the restaurant. The hostesses were young and inexperienced to deal with the situation. Mistakes by management were clearly made in the execution of the evening. We ended up leaving as the hostess kept saying we were next, but kept seating others. It was a very disappointing experience. What is the point in making a reservation when you wait more than 90 minutes for a table that never opens up? There were no managers on the floor directing the servers and bussers. Dirty tables sat unused for 20 minutes or more. Unacceptable! We threw in the towel and went to another restaurant. We had little faith in getting a table, let alone eating by midnight!

Amazing food, excellent service, and all the ambiance you could ask for. Go in on your actual birthday and you get $20 off your meal :-)

My first visit, with a friend. My veal was excellent. His New York strip was good, however it was not up to temperature. Excellent service. Would definitely return.

After reading many positive Yelp reviews about this place, I decided to take my girlfriend and son here on New Year's Eve. For my review, I won't take into account the hour and a half wait for our table - after all, it WAS New Year's Eve. Okay...this place is highly over-rated. The decor is tacky with the chandeliers and the huge mirrors on the wall. I felt like I was dining in the Adam's Family mansion. I don't know what era this place is stuck in - maybe the 60's? Anyway, it's not working - for me anyway. Most of the people that we were stuck waiting in line with looked like they were out of the 60's as well...fur coats, big hair and knee high leather boots. Maybe the locals?? My steak was tough and somewhat cool to the touch. On top of that it was overdone. No one at our table was satisfied with their meal. But, after waiting nearly 45 minutes for plates to arrive, who the hell wants to send it back to the kitchen? Maybe it was a rare New Year's Eve occurrence, but Angelo's food, from my experience, was mediocre at best. I feel I'm being generous giving this place two stars. If you live in Toledo, I wouldn't waste the gas driving up there.

My wife and I love going here for lunch. It's is very quiet so it is a great place for business meetings. The perch is excellent. The service is always great.

This place is scary. As another reviewer said, it takes you back in time -- to a strange David Lynch decor and dated 1980s menu. This is fine dining if you're 75 or have never been to the city. The wait staff is predominantly local bumpkin and perpetually grumpy. The ambient music, produced from a poorly amped electronic keyboard, is more distracting than pleasing. I agree that the seafood is the winner here, as it benefits from being locally sourced. The steak is a mistake - just don't do it. At the end of the day, the experience falls well short of the price and the drive to the inconvenient and somewhat frightening location.
