It doesn't look like much from the outside; GHP looks like the diner from Pulp Fiction - big windows, old brown swivels at the counter, and matching booths. GHP was really surprising though. They make all their stuff by hand, which I would've never guessed. I would expect them to have a setup like Denny's, where everything is prepackaged and frozen and gross. Not at all. I had waffles with apple topping. It was delicious and cheap! There's very few places around that do a better waffle, actually. The big chains can't touch this kind of cooking. Everything else I ordered was as expected: good bacon, eggs were cooked exactly how I wanted them, tasty coffee. You get pretty decent portions here. You can expect to get full for well under $10. For a quick bite, it's a worthy choice.

Disgusting!!! Dead insects on the window ledge. Looks and smells dirty. I have been here twice. Took the wife the second time because I felt like some crepes and we were in the area. Big mistake. My crepes had a distinct chemical flavor. Then after trying to wash that chemical taste out of my mouth with soda that had the same flavor, my wife notices that the toast she has been eating is moldy. Told the waitress and she responded by grabbing the plate and throwing the toast away. Then had the nerve to ask if she wanted anything else. We responded " the check." Went to the register to pay for food that we never had a chance to eat. Told the manager what had happened and he just looked at me and offered no response. So I ended up paying for the worst breakfast I have ever not eaten. Called the health department, ended up getting a letter saying the issue has been addressed. Stopped back just to check. Same dead bugs by the windows. I guess there have been other health department inspections. Why is this place still allowed to serve food???? I don't know if the owners or the county government is more to blame for this poor excuse for a restaurant. Dine here at your own risk.

Mostly very good. I've had a few things on the menu. The biggest problem is the hash browns. 4/5 times I went there, everything was good except the hash browns. They must cook too much early in the morning and then serve the old stuff throughout the day. It's pretty terrible if you're a breakfast fan. No one wants to eat old reheated hash browns. I haven't been there in a couple months but I figured I would review some places in my area.

The best breakfast on the east side! The friendliest people and great food. Their specials are often unique including the "hawaiian omlette" which turned out to be fantastic. They get very busy on weekend mornings. One of the only places I have visited that includes a drink with the meal at no extra charge.

The chorizo omelette was pretty good. Toast wasn't all that crispy. Coffee was not very hot. Restaurant was cold. Bathroom not the nicest. The table we sat at was slanting down. The TV was getting partial digital signal so it was cutting out and really annoying and loud. Luckily they turned it off. All in all, won't be going back again.

Granma's has good crepes. I really want to try the blintzes too but I haven't been there enough to experiment. They recently expanded their hours, which is good because oftentimes I would go there and they were already closed. I gave it 3 stars because I can't get over the greasy smell that hits me when I walk in. And the crepe description includes whipped cream, however, I had to ask for it.

Great service, and much better food than you'd expect from this tiny dinerish looking place. Also, lots of food for the price. Order two eggs, and you get three. There is an unpretentious eastern european touch to a lot of the items, like ham and swiss crepes and potato pancakes. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area.

Awesome pancakes, waffles, basically anything off the grill. But it's the Swedish Extravaganza - I mean, where else can you get decent lingonberries outside of Minnesota for Pete's sake? The Crepes Suzette is pretty good too - and it's one of the few places in the "D" you can get a decent blintz. All in all, it's a breakfast foodies paradise, and at prices that don't break the budget.

Disappointing, nothing really "grandmotherly" about this place. Gordon Food Service/coney island quality all the way. Small & uncomfortable, service is slow, food is average/below average. Not open for dinner. Coffee watered down/weak and a long time between refills. Waitresses could probably benefit from taking a Dale Carnegie course. A dark cloud seems to hang over this place ... remember girls, a frown is just a smile turned upside down, ;). Had a chorizo omelet, where was the chorizo and why did it take so long? Bland and unseasoned. If Taco Bell served breakfast, this would be it. Hash browns soggy and undercooked. Felt ill (like a mild food poisoning) after dining in and noted they've been cited previously by the Macomb County Health Dept for improperly maintaining food storage temps, :shrug:. It is what it is, the whole place could use a good cleaning and modernization. New ownership has really let this once proud Eastpointe landmark decline, :(. Great place for seniors, I suppose, and a solid "2-stars" any day of the week. Certainly not a "destination". At least a dozen mom & pop places within a mile (plus the corporate-type places) that are as good or better/same value for your buck. Have to agree with reviewers Joe S. and Judye R. in that this place is no big deal. But hey, don't believe us, waste a trip going there and be underwhelmed for yourself. Would not recommend, :(.

This weeks Fancy Breakfast Thursday (FBT) started a whirlwind of a day that I called the Rainbow Tour. FBT featured Jeffrey B., Pinecone and special guest star Fraulein Jessica B. Granma's is located on 9 Mile in Exotic Eastpointe. It's a small dinery establishment with a green awning around the outside. It's unassuming but inside is the best breakfast on this side of the city. The menu is packed with more than just your traditional pancakes. Also featured are crêpes and blintzes. There are several varieties of your traditional type of pancakes, too, such as chocolate chip, blueberry and walnut raisin. More exotic dishes are palestine pancakes and more traditional ethnic dishes are potato pancakes and crepes suzette. Waffles are also an option. There is a large selection of omelettes. These omelettes are $5-6 and are made with 5 eggs. I tried the gyro omelette and it was loaded with gyro meat, feta, tomato and onion. It was very delicious. The omelettes come with hash browns. These were not the grated type of hash browns. They weren't my favorite because they weren't cooked very crispy, which is how I like them. Fortunately, you can get pancakes instead of toast with your meal in a Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds Tour. What should I get pancakes or eggs? How about pancakes AND eggs? Thanks, Granma! The pancakes were so good. I might say they were the best pancakes in the area. I thought they were cooked perfectly and had a lot of flavor. The coffee was not spectacular but not bad either. I feel it was slightly better than normal diner coffee. Overall, I thought the meal was excellent. It was a ton of food for only $6. The service was prompt and attentive. The place was clean and nice. If I'm ever on the Eastside for breakfast, I'm going back.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Granma's! This is a fantastic local gem! The family that owns it is awesome - right on top of everything. The daughters are the wait staff and do a great job - friendly, efficient and accurate! The mom usually is hostess and runs the register. The cooks are the men in the family. What I love about this place is their breakfast variety. They always offer unique selections - including many crepe options. A few visits ago, I ordered raspberry crepes with coconut. Ever since then, that's all I order! My bf orders something different every time and has loved every meal! I love that Granma's is close to home. This is my favorite breakfast diner :) They do serve lunch and dinner, but I usually still order breakfast!

Went here for breakfast today. The menu does have some unusual things that you wouldn't expect for a family restaurant. They have crepes and blitntz and a few other surprises. I got the skillet with ham, mushroom, onion and peppers. It tasted good but was not amazing. Gf got the hani sandwich deluxe, again it was good but not amazing. I think National has a much better hani. Server's were all very friendly and courteous. I did think the food was a bit slow compared to other breakfast spots but maybe they make it more from scratch than others idk. I would go back but only if I was in the area.

They serve more than just breakfast, but I went specifically for breakfast. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and coffee. The pancakes were cooked perfectly, not too many chocolate chips. It was topped with powdered sugar and whip topping. The portion was huge. I tried so hard to finish it but I just could not. I thought the coffee was fine. The place is a small diner. The service was good, the place was very clean. The price for breakfast was about $6.00 bucks. It was very reasonable and I am a fan......

This is a little diner, obviously family owned. Everyone looks alike! I've been here twice now and both times everything has been great. The waitstaff is very welcoming and the service is attentive . Great prices too! On my first visit I got the Strawberry Crepes and hash browns. My husband got the steak and eggs with chocolate chip pancakes on the side. The crepes are absolutely huge! They are stuffed to the max with strawberries and have whipped cream on top. The hash browns were homemade, but I had to take them to go. I tried some of the chocolate chip pancakes and they were good. Very chocolaty and rich, also with whipped cream. My husband said his steak and eggs were great too. Our second time eating here I told myself I was getting the Belgian Waffle; but couldn't say no when I saw the picture of the crepes on the menu, and had to get them again! I got the raspberry crepes this time and man, they were killer. The tartness of the real raspberries was fantastic with all the extra whipped cream I had requested. The waitress was so sweet too, she made sure to put extra on my plate after the chef had already put a lot on! My husband got a Bacon Burger with a fried egg on top much to my behest (I mean, come on! We're at Granma's house of PANCAKE'S, lol) -But he said it was great! So like me, don't discount the other typical diner fare just because this place has "pancakes" in the name! This place will defiantly be MY go to breakfast stop.

Stopped into GHP for breakfast the other day on a friend's recommendation. Most of the food was fairly good for diner fare and our service was spot-on. Another good sign was that the owner was on-premise, a trait shared by all diners of note. Prices were good and a lot of the old diner standards appear on the menu. My lone criticism here was aesthetics. I can appreciate making due with what you've got but I think this place could use, at the very least, an internal face-lift. And do something about the situation with the mascot. I don't mean to disrespect, but I could do without the bust of an old woman printed all over the place. In my opinion, it'd be better to contract an artist to do a simple but warm sketch of Granma. But that's all the complaints I have and frankly, they're small potatoes. It's a cheap, clean, and well serviced diner. That's what matters most.

Thank you Yelp for providing guidance for this Fancy Breakfast Thursday (FBT) location. Special guest star (SGS) Jessica B. was in town and met us (Ryan L., Pinecone, and myself) for FBT in the middle ground of Eastpointe, née East Detroit. Situated on 9 Mile down yonder from Morley's Chocolates and the Subway that was a Taco Bell is Granma's House of Pancakes. Not a whole lot to look at from the outside but who cares about the exterior when they serve omelets the size of your head and pancakes that are so heavenly you'd swear an angel was manning the griddle? Our server greeted us cheerfully, proudly sporting coral nail polish and a sincere smile. She also told us that the "Granma" pictured on their menu is a stand-in for the real "Granma". The menu offered much traditional diner fare, international breakfast favorites (crêpes, blintzes, potato pancakes) and standard breakfasts. The omelets boasted that they were made with 5 eggs and served with hashbrowns and your choice of toast of pancakes. I decided upon the Spartan Omelet which blended spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes (though I opted to substitute them for broccoli) and feta cheese served on the back of a wingèd horse in the shield of a warrior. Well, maybe some of that isn't true. . . The omelet was seriously huge. I doubted that it was made with 5 eggs but I am willing to bet it was! It was stuffed with generous servings of fillings and what wasn't part of the monstrosity of egg was made up with hashbrowns. The pancakes were two large buttermilk beauties served with butter and warmed syrup on the side. Everything tasted perfect, though the coffee was kind of average. There was a nice variety of Smucker's Jam on the table including the rare Seedless Blackberry (if for some reason toast was opted for) and the ketchup was Heinz, as it should be. The best part of the meal was that it was under ten dollars for everything including tip. That, and we got to see toast being painted with butter after coming out of the conveyor belt toaster and then butter being scooped into individual ramekins! I swear it's the best dinner theatre I have seen since the Del Taco production of Othello. . . who am I kidding, that was rubbish. I would highly recommend Granma's to anyone looking to be filled with breakfast; it is truly homecookin' breakfast at its finest. I think they also serve free dessert after 3 with the purchase of a meal? The digital marquee was reporting something to that avail.

We love this place! Great omlettes, skillets, of course pancakes, and the crepes! It should be called Grandma House of Crepes!

Stopped into GHP for breakfast the other day on a friend's recommendation. Most of the food was fairly good for diner fare and our service was spot-on. Another good sign was that the owner was on-premise, a trait shared by all diners of note. Prices were good and a lot of the old diner standards appear on the menu. My lone criticism here was aesthetics. I can appreciate making due with what you've got but I think this place could use, at the very least, an internal face-lift. And do something about the situation with the mascot. I don't mean to disrespect, but I could do without the bust of an old woman printed all over the place. In my opinion, it'd be better to contract an artist to do a simple but warm sketch of Granma. But that's all the complaints I have and frankly, they're small potatoes. It's a cheap, clean, and well serviced diner. That's what matters most.
