The management here is awesome and their service was great! We ordered off the Chinese menu and we had a great experience. I won't think about going anywhere else. Their portions and quality is very good. They even have family style service for groups! I thought it was cool to see a group of students share several dishes full of steaming hot goodness.

Close to home so decided to try it for lunch today. Called in my order and the lady was nice enough. It was ready when I arrived 20min later. Kung Pao shrimp lunch special is very tasty and the best thing I ordered. Good amount of diced veggies and flavor was spot on. Not too spicy, but I usually add my own chili flakes anyway. I ordered hot and sour soup with it, and that was very bland. Mostly sour without much other seasoning. Wouldn't order that again. I also ordered the Moo Shu chicken based in the other reviews. This was pretty bad. It was too salty and soggy. Definitely no need for the hoisin. It was 95% cabbage with bits of carrots and onion. I'm used to more al dente veggies, less salt, less liquid, and more variety of veggies like mushrooms and bamboo. Big dinner portion, but I'll need to modify it to make it edible. Also, they do not give you true moo shu pancakes. They give you spring roll wrappers, which are a cheap substitution. I think their standard dishes are probably fine but it is trial and error. Will still give them another shot.

Very good restaurant though it is tiny. My friend recommended me there, and I love this place!!! They have authentic Chinese food!!!!!!

Really like this place. To me, it seems a bit expensive for Chinese food, but the portions are HUGE! We usually order the General Tso's chicken (it is awesome), a couple eggrolls, and it's more than enough food for two people. I like the fried rice, but the steamed rice is good and sticky. They're always friendly and prompt. It's by far my favorite Chinese takeout place in the East Lansing area.

I am a fan for their food, but not a fan for their service. I go to this place occasionally for to-go when I don't want to cook. No excessive MSG. IMO, their dishes are a bit pricey too. And please remember to bring enough cash. They don't take cards from Asians....duh...........

I've been here twice, and both time have been fantastic! I just ordered off their lunch menu, and got a big bowl of fried rice, hunan shrimp and a can of pop for $5. Great deal! The shrimp is cooked perfectly and the veggies taste so fresh. Last time we went I got Mu Shu Vegetables- and they were the best I'd ever had. Suuuuuper thin wraps and so good. It may seem like Wok & Roll is far from campus, but really it is a straight shot up Hagadorn. I could get there in just over 5 minutes from my office. Plus the lady at the counter was so friendly & nice!

Simply outstanding chinese food cooked to order. The freshest ingredients and the owner is SOOO friendly. I get takeout there at least once a week Try the lake tung ting shrimp. I don't see it on very many menus and it is out of this world.

I tried this place twice. The first time the food was good but nothing too extraordinary. The second time was outstanding. Maybe it was a different cook the second time, but the food was awesome. Mu Shu pork was delicious, and the crab rangoons were hot and not greasy. Loved it! They paid attention to details and didn't shove my rangoons in with the other food making them soggy like another restaurant I've tried. I've tried several Chinese restaurants around the area, and this one could become my favorite....if it consistently is yummy.

To start, I'm rating this a 4 because I knew what I was getting into. This restaurant is run by immigrants for immigrants and international students. They welcome your money, not you. They are there to support Chinese students and immigrants. Don't come here if you think Chinese food is what you're ordering at Rice Kitchen. Do not order off the English Menu. Also, they do have menus in Korean, which helped me be able to order, not sure if that would help anyone else, but it is an option. If you're going to eat in the restaurant (which is not big, let the international kids eat there, they have KTV and Chinese soaps playing on the tv for them), the owners charge you a couple bucks extra for rice. If you take your food to go, it doesn't cost anything extra. All that being said, the food is delicious. 10/10 would recommend. The service is what you would expect in this sort of environment, however. The food is out quick, which is for the best given there are only two chairs in a corner as the "waiting area." So don't be intimidated to come here, just take everything with a grain of salt. Remember though kids, this place is cash only.

After reading all the funny reviews on this place on how mean the lady at the front is, I had to come to this place to try it out. Mostly because I knew if people thought the Asian lady at the front cashier was mean, that means its legit. I was right. Its looks like a hole in the wall joint in a small strip mall next to the gas station. When I walked in only 3 people were eating inside. I walked up to the counter and the menu indeed was in Chinese. I ignored the other "regular" menu since it was the generic asian-american items. I asked for the thousand year old egg and tofu but they were out of the eggs so I went with the Ma Po Tofu and the tomato egg soup. Ma Po Tofu is a spicy dish with soft tofu and minced pork. The tomato egg soup is a light clear broth with of course, eggs and tomatoes. The tofu was 8.99 and the soup was 6.99. both reasonably priced. I also purchased a chrysanthemum tea for $1.10. Altogether came out to about $18. It was alot of food. I ate this meal twice and even heated up it was delicious. This is easily the best Ma Po tofu I have ever had. Most of the places make it generic with diced carrots and peas. Wok & Roll's tofu was spicy and very appetizing with rice. All in all, I am so glad I found this place. The lady was nice enough, its what you expect at authentic Chinese restaurants. So ,my advice for those that cant hack it trying to order here, lighten up or go to Panda Express for your Chinese food fix.

Foods good service is normally good would be 5 stars but last time I went here I ate in and ordered a good deal of food that was served with rice that I did not order and I was charges $4 for it ????? Well that made me a little pissed but hey what's the difference of spending 40 to 45 a week here and just not going at all because some one decided they needed $4 for a bowl of rice as I look at it they have lost over $400 worth of business for that bowl of rice seems like you would ask if you were just gonna throw that on there.I really like the food here but I can't help but feel that knife In my back. I honesly really want there food right now at 4:22 am on march 17 2015. Oh and when you order out you get a thing of rice for free from almost any real asian restraunt.... that rice kills me though $4.....

It's traditional southern China restaurant. They have two kinds of menus, one in English and one in Chinese. Obviously, the dishes on menu are totally different. If you want to try real Chinese food, just look what's on other customers table and give it a try! This review is based on the menu in Chinese. The way they cook focus on showing the freshness and the original taste of food. So, their dishes are not spicy or salty, but light and fresh. I'd recommend their chicken broth if you like authentic Chinese food that they only serve limited quantities (around 15-20). There are only chicken and mushrooms in the broth. But you can tell how delicious the soup is. In addition, the Yangzhou tofu is always my favorite! You would like it if you think Mapo tofu is too spicy and oily.

I ordered the 牛肉面 and the crab Rangoon. Their crab Rangoon are awesome, the shell was just the right amount of crunchy (even though it sat for half an hour before I could get to it), although the filling is a little sparse if you're the kind of person who only eats the filling. I thought it was perfect though! It came with sweet and sour sauce which was awesome. I didn't want to order from the Americanized menu (general tsao's chicken, etc.) but I couldn't read the chinese menu, so I picked the one I could read. "牛肉面", which was unexpectedly a soup (actually she warned me right after I ordered. I had hoped for a stir fry but this was actually super good. The noodles were more like spaghetti noodles, I expected something more Chinese, but it was yummy and didn't get too soggy. It had pieces of beef in it and some in identified vegetable that turned soft and tasty. It was a huge portion, and I only was able to eat half before giving up. The lady was super nice, so I don't know what's going on with the other reviews. Here's a tip, being friendly is infectious. I know that it's not because I'm asian because I didn't speak Chinese. The inside is a little bare (6+ tables) but it was clean inside. Parking was good.

As a Chinese. I could have very traditional Chinese food here. Some of the dishes are brilliant and hook my memory back home. BUT a female boss(老板娘) who never smiled. Unreasonable charged on the tips(什么时候中国人收小费呀) and poor service if you want to eat there. Overall, the food is good, and it surely can redeem its service. Recommended for all( take away please )

The star is for food only. The taste is excellent, but the service is extremely terrible. Servers are rude, no music in the restaurant, very few table. And the worst experience is the "cash only" rule for JUST Asians, which is really offensive. There are VISA and MasterCard logos on the front door, but they never take cards, then I started to take it for granted. However, I saw the American guest in front of me paid by card, so I asked whether they took card by now, and the server said NO. LYING RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE.... Haven't seen worse service anywhere.

Pro. its the authentic Jiangsu Cuisine you can hardly find in the entire USA. reasonably priced cons horrible service. the only reason I took points off is because the boss is not friendly at all. She kinda freak out all customers. another points off for environment.

Over the year this place has become the go-to place for my wife and I when we want good Chinese food. Order off their Chinese menu (which has English translations) the portion is huge and delicious. They also have seasonal dishes on the whiteboard above the water cooler. The owners are "friendlier" if you have dark hair and speaks Mandarin, but they are generally good to all their customers. They changed to cash-only last year, which make it a little less convenient, but understandable. As a small family business, I guess they didn't want credit card companies taking all their profit. After three years, still a great place to eat!

I've eaten here enough times to give a fair rating and I've decided they deserve a 4 in my book. I wouldn't say this is the best Chinese food I've ever had but I will say that it's not swimming in grease like a lot of Americanized Chinese food is. A lot of Chinese food tastes the same to me, with certain variations here and there and Wok and Roll has food that tastes like it could have been made at any number of other Chinese food places I've been to in the U.S. But they are consistent and the food is always hot, fresh, and a lot healthier than I've had at many other places, thanks to that missing pool of grease. It's tasty and their portions are generous. It took the woman who takes the orders awhile to warm up to us but she knows our faces now and she's started smiling at us. In the early days we barely got a grunt. The last time we went in she forgot to include my egg roll in the takeout bag and when I called she had realized her error and only rang in the amount of the bill, rather than including the tip I left, which was a bit more than the cost of the egg roll. I've tried several other Chinese food restaurants in this area and this is my favorite. Their prices are reasonable and the place always smells like Chinese five spice when I walk in. I love that stuff!

First time visit for us and it is probably our last. 1. The place is set up like a "TO-GO" joint so we ordered at the walk-up counter only to discover that they do wait on tables. Why didn't she tell us that when she asked if it was to go? 2. The lady was very, very UN-friendly. Precisely why we don't eat at their competitor to the west. 3. No fountain drinks. 4. Then, the final snub: At first I thought I was imagining this but as the tables filled up, it was very obvious. Every table occupied by Asian-looking customers was served with individual ceramic bowls/plates and large ceramic bowls for the rice and the main dish. Our meal was shoved in front of us with the rice on a paper plate and the main dish in a ceramic bowl. No separate bowls or plates to serve our portions. I noticed one other American-Caucasian-looking fellow and his soup was served in a to-go container. Oh, we also were given plastic to-go forks (the extreme cheap-o type while the Asians were supplied with cutlery (or sticks). 5. Oh.............the food was fine although my Tso chicken was spicier than I've ever eaten (I still enjoyed it). 6. I'm going to stick with the Thai joint on Oakland. Banzai people!

Excellent fast-food Chinese. Yes, the servers are rude--that's a cultural thing. They gave me a menu in Chinese, and one in Korean (I was confused) but then I got one in English. There was a pitcher of water on the table for drinking. The food was excellent, though the rice was a little cold. Overall exactly what I wanted: cheap, quick, hot, and delicious.

I have eaten here and my husband and I reality like the food. What merits the one star is that I used to get delivery all the time. I now live 1 mile further than I used to and I was told "no no no, you live way to far" and when I asked where the line for delivery was, they just repeated that I lived too far and they rushed off the phone. If someone asks a question like that an answer would be nice, not to mention I wasn't even given the opportunity to place an order for pick-up. It seemed like they eye busy enough that my other and money wasn't important enough to even try to keep my business in a carry-out order. Sadly disappointed!

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions.
