Foods For Living Menu

Foods for Living has a really good selection, but generally charges more than Better Health (which, in turn, has a weaker selection). If it's an organic, natural or boutique food item, Foods for Living probably has it. For a non-chain grocery store, that's pretty good. However, they don't carry Paramount coffee and their bread selection is sub-par. Where Foods for Living really shines is their selection of natural/organic health and beauty supplies. They have everything.

This store is a God-send for people looking for organic products. Yes, prices are higher here BUT this is a worker owned cooperative - you get the great service along with the top-notch products. Love the fact that they have a vast array of cheeses, ready-made organic dips and my (sigh) favorite gelato of all time - Ciao Bello! Also, if you ever need a last minute gift, they have great hemp made t-shirts, natural and organic bath products, and other beauty products for the girls.

You can have yourself a homemade half-priced colonic shopping in here! I'm not really an organic-fanatic or even into Kashi for that matter, but Foods for Living has a wonderful selection of healthy, organic, fair trade, go-hug-a-tree-and-love-the-world items. Actually I shop here because I make natural soaps and stuff like that and I buy my sea salts, steel cut oats, and essential oils here. Which brings me to the next point that they have a vast selection of all-natural beauty and home products. Well face it, the good stuff costs a bit more, so expect to shell out some extra duckets for dye/fragrance/nasty chemical-free laundry detergent, but the shopping experience is worth it.

Very good selection of organic and minimally processed, health and beauty aids, and household products, plus some clothing, books, and magazines. They do make an effort to carry local products (Grazing Fields eggs, Calder Dairy milk and butter, for example), but their emphasis is more toward providing a variety of items.

Good for some things, not others. Great for organic produce, although little of it is local. Terrible for coffee -- their bulk coffee is invariably bitter and stale. Good for yuppier groceries, like European cheeses. Great variety of tofus, tempehs, and seitans. Good for supplements, if you're into that type of thing, but their "frequent buyer" program for supplements sucks: availability is highly variable, and the cashiers fail to ring up the discount at least half the time.

Stumbled upon this place during a day trip to Lansing. I wish we had one closer to us. This is a great little store! I was amazed with the amount of things they carried. Our health food stores look nothing like this in my city! We bought fresh milk in a glass jug and I am now officially mad that I don't have this option near me. Prices weren't bad either.

I love this store! All different kinds of local, organic, healthy foods! Bulk foods are not to be missed. Also not to be missed is the deli area where you can stop in and buy lunch to go.. Fresh ,frozen, and dried goods! Always happy employees. Makes it fun to shop!

Great little store with a great selection of health foods and specialty items. I love that they carry prepared food from local restaurants- Woody's, Sultan's, + Maru to name a few. I hope they stay in business when Whole Foods moves across the street. Support a local little store and shop here.

Really large selection of everything. I tried to reach out to the owner/manager about a question/concern but did not even receive a reply. As a regular customer, that was off-putting and makes me not want to go out of my way to shop their again. Also, I've been in health food stores across the country, and prices here are fixed high.

This is a really nice large market with a welcoming community feeling and a really good range of products in the realm of natural stuff but also just a reasonable array of items that aren't over=priced. They have wide aisles and a lot of variety of brands and a pretty relevant stock of items for a college town. If I'm in the area I usually stop by and have a little free shot of coffee and pick up things that are tough to find even in Ann Arbor. Nice store.

I have also shopped at this store for years and they have a good selection but don't try and return anything. They refuse returns and not nice about it. I'm really looking forward to Whole Foods coming. I will also continue to shop at the East Lansing Food Coop since they really do carry local farmer's food.

Love this place, and stop here every chance we get. They have such a great selection and fantastic service. I stop at every health food store I come across, and this is one of my favorites. Good prices, good products and good service. We always find something new to try!

Found some vitamin supplements that are not readily available in the major chains. Employee who helped us was friendly and knowledgeable. 10% off supplements with Military or Student I.D.

I love this store! It's neat, clean, well organized, and has an excellent selection. I also like the reduced produce shelves. You do have to do some comparison shopping between other organic stores, and sometimes, you'll get a better deal elsewhere. However, overall, it's a store that's well managed, well stocked, and has class. (The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that there's always room for expansion/improvement in any store.)

Nice selection, friendly staff, like a co-op, only not.

POOR customer service. They have very bad accounting systems and even worse management.

I have never had a bad experience at FFL, despite stopping in just about once a week for the past few years. The selection is great and the service is top-notch. If I were to nit-pick, I'd say that I wish the produce section was a bit larger and the prices just a bit lower. Oh, and I wish they'd carry Paramount coffee! However the fact that it is an employee owned business means the prices may be higher but you get great service with it. I always find something new to try here, whether it is an essential oil, natural cleaning product or a new coffee. I even get lunch here quite often as they have several items from local spots like Maru and Woody's that are delivered a couple of times per week. Finally their vitamin, supplements and other natural remedies section is full of hard to find items. You really can't go wrong with a trip here.

I love Foods For Living! It is so nice to be able to go to a store and know everything is organic (or as organic as it can be)! They also have a great selection of local goods and small prepackaged meals. I have been known to swing by there on my way to work and grab stuff for lunch! It is also one of the only places I can go in Lansing where I trust the fruits and vegetables. Their stuff is always fresh and delicious!!!

This is a nice natural foods store. I especially like their bulk food options. It is one of the only places in the Lansing area to pick up bulk products. I went there this past weekend with my entire family in tow to pick up supplies for granola bars. Yum! We also picked out some produce and beer to go with our Father's Day dinner. The prices were a little high but there just aren't that many options in Lansing so I'm happy Foods for Living is available.

4 stars based on selection, layout, and cleanliness (sometimes natural foods places smell weird, right?). Would have been 5 stars if they carried more Raw foods (besides produce). The service was great. The cashier gave me a coupon for my next visit when I mentioned it was my first time. He also shared some other locales which might carry Raw foods. Overall, it was a good experience.

This store is a godsend for me. As someone that has to adhere to a gluten free diet, I do a good chunk of my shopping here and at Better Health. I love the great variety of products they offer but wish that they had better sales/specials so that I could try new things without feeling like I'm wasting money on the things that don't turn out so well. I enjoy that they have sections especially for their gluten free offerings but I always make sure to check out the rest of the store, because sometimes things that are gluten free but not specialty gluten free can save me a ton of money. What brings it down on the rating? Their bulk section is great but putting gluten free things below or right next to gluten filled products generally prevents me from wanting to try them. Just too iffy on the chance that it might be contaminated. Also, the fresh produce section is very small and doesn't have enough local produce. There is a lot of great farms around here and it would benefit Foods for Living to get them involved. My final complaint is that often I'll find an item I love but a few trips later the product is no longer there. Not their fault exactly, when producers no longer offer it. But often they just bring in new products that I'm just not a fan of.

Perhaps it's the sprouting culinary instinct, or a general appreciation of nicer foods, but I really enjoy the grocery shopping experience. That being said, depending on my bi-weekly finances, I can either be found at a super mart (think Meijer) or a more specialized market. I wandered into Foods for Living after a trip to Target, and had little intention of buy a lot of groceries. After scanning the isles, however, I realized that this was the place that I have been looking for. They stock a variety of organic and vegetarian food. Additionally, some of their food comes from local restaurants like Woody's or New Aladdin's. One thing I enjoyed most is that a lot of the food was not only vegetarian and organic, but kosher. The products are a bit pricier, but the quality surpasses the raised price in terms of importance/relevance.

What draws me to this place is it's availability of Organic produce, and wide array of Vegan and Vegetarian products. I like that it's employee owned too. Also, their employees seemed to be well informed about the products, which is always a relief. I come here for vitamins too, of which they have an outstanding selection. Prices are a bit high, but not any more than any other health food stores. Great variety, and customer service. I will be hounding this place often!

I love Foods for Living! Since our baby has been eating solid foods, we've been trying to feed him mostly organic stuff, and Foods for Living definitely has the best selection in town. (Better Health in Frandor was closer, but I was tired of their unhelpful employees. The service at FfL is always great.) You'll find tons of produce, baby food, pet food, frozen meals, supplements, cereals, beauty and health supplies, snacks or whatever it is that your health-loving little heart desires. The prices here aren't cheap, but what health-food store IS?
