I am so glad we found Wild Dog. The service was great and the food was good. The dining room has an intimate feeling but half the diners are wearing shorts, so the atmoshpere is fairly casual. Decent beer list. Next time maybe we will wait for the patio.

The basic burger with provolone cheese was fantastic. Their fries are perfectly seasoned. Wife got the Chicken "Parme-Cata". She enjoyed the dish with the fresh flavor of the tomato and mozzarella. She really enjoyed the lemon flavor of it as well. She commented that the breading on the chicken ended up quite soggy because of the sauce the chicken was cooked in/had drizzled over it. Otherwise she really enjoyed every forkful. Ps the calamari was superb! Unfortunately we tried to experience dinner on the patio and the mosquitoes got at our legs and ankles so I would recommend the establishment invests in a fogger/torches or every table have a citronella tea light or something. It was a very pleasant scene outside and much more comfortable than the frigid indoor seating (and I never complain about the a/c) that was offered.

The wild dog is a very well decorated restaurant with a nice patio. We were seated quickly. Service was pretty awkward. Not bad really, but unfriendly and sometimes weird. For example, instead of taking a pitcher to refill soda the sever brought a regular cup and started pouring "refills" into the wrong cups. They menu is divided into sandwiches, pizzas and entrees. The sandwiches are reasonably priced from $10-13. The pizzas were similarly priced. The entrees rand from $17-20+. We had the four cheese pizza which was just too much. It was very oily and salty, and not very enjoyable. The regular pizza was pretty good. However, we ordered pepperoni/sausage and received pepperoni/mushroom. This is an issue when they person ordering it can't eat mushrooms and the server can't be found to fix the order. We also had the fish tacos. The flavor was very good but the "tacos" we're actually way too big and they were more like small burritos. Finally we had the pork enchiladas. The flavor was good and the pickled onions and peppers were enjoyable. I thought the back beans and rice was bland. The price point for the enchiladas was high compared to the quality of other dishes in this price range for the area. Overall the wild dog was an ok experience. I don't think I will be back, but it is a decent option of you are looking for causal dining experience with a short wait on a busy night.

Such a treat to have a place like this in Douglas. You cannot go wrong sitting on the patio on a gorgeous late summer day, eat one of their juicy burgers (hands down, best in the area), sip a Bloody, and watch passers-by. My hubby and I were in a blissful state. On top of it, the service is always on point, relaxed but on top of everything. It is a staple- and a golden one at that!

This is on of those places I alway like coming to but always leave slightly disappointed. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes. It ended up being 90. The hostess sat 2 large parties in front of us gobbling outdoor tables together and told me they had to seat them first because they had nowhere else to put them. Well how about waiting for the people who had been there first to do that. Our waitress cam back 30 minutes after our order to ask a question about our entree and apparently had not put them in. So now been here over 2 hours and not happy. People who were seated after us had already finished their meals at this point. The food was actually good but not worth the hassle. They should really take reservations. Friday and Saturday nights this place is a zoo. Better to come when it's not packed beyond their capability to handle the crowds.

We stopped in at The Wild Dog Grille for a quick lunch before hitting the beach. We enjoyed their outdoor patio with plenty of shaded seating. Decent beer list with local options. I went with the grilled cheese - Pesto Spinach Cheese Dip, Provolone, Smoked Mozzarella, fresh Spinach and Sun-Dried Tomatoes. Gooey goodness between 2 slices of bread that I will be craving for a long time! I chose chips for my side. Too salty for my taste but had an excellent crunch. My husband had The Wild Dog & fries - Beer Brat topped with house made Pub Cheese Mustard, Dill Pickle-Pepperoncini Relish, sliced Tomato & Scallion on a Sesame Seed fresh baked Hoagie Roll. I didn't try it but I could tell he really enjoyed it. Our server was very friendly but a little slow bringing our check at the end. Not a big deal. We were probably in a hurry to get to the beach!

Three things. Beer, sweet potato fries and grilled cheese sandwich. Winner, winner and winner. We love Wild Dog Grille.
(5)Andy S.
We enjoyed the Wild Dog so much while on vacation we had to come back a second time before we left! If you're in the mood for a burger, they are awesome. Ground sirloin and ribeye make for a great balance and they are cooked just right -- charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fries are fresh and seasoned perfectly. My wife had a great mediterranean salad which came with a delicious chicken skewer. They had a good kids menu, but I wish my son's sandwich would have included a side of chips or fries. They have their own ale which was very nice and went well with our outdoor meals on a summer day. Needless to say we will be back!

Impressive display of excellence in an eclectic range of dishes. From Thai to Mexican to American traditional, all dishes are stupendous. Service is warm and prompt. Highlights (in rank order): - Sweet Potato Fries - perfectly crisped, piping hot, and garnished with a cool coconut aioli. - Crab Cakes - genuine fresh crab meat this far from the coast? Yes, and well seasoned with a light panko and Asian slaw to boot. - Cocktails - the bartenders pour heavy and mix new twists on classics. - Thai Beef Skewers - spicy, tender beef over a bed of lightly fried rice with snap crisp veggies and coconut curry. Outstanding. - Adobo Enchiladas - these would stand out even at a Mexican joint; the rice/bean side is more of a risotto and a star all its own.

My husband and I dined here upon a friend's recommendation. The food and drinks did not disappoint. I devoured my delicious enchilada as did my husband the chicken parm-cada. The french martini was delish. However, I have one huge issue. We sat at the bar to eat. The bartender, at one point, pulled the rubber band off his pony tail/bun and started running his fingers through his semi-greasy very long hair. This went on for several minutes, then he pulled it all up back in the bun. Unfortunately, he failed to wash his hands. Instead he went right back to making drinks, handling garnishments and serving. I was a bit taken aback. If we hadn't already eaten, we would have left. Shortly after, he started texting on his phone - again without washing his hands. I wondered if he had any idea of how many germs were on that phone. Gross! So based on that, I probably won't return to the restaurant because I can't help but wonder about the cleanliness of the entire restaurant.

No complaints about the food. The service was terrible. Pro-tip: When a 5yo says, "Where did our waiter go? Maybe he died" that's a pretty good indication the server is awful. We waited an hour for our food. An hour from the time we ordered. In that time, our waiter came by once to refill my drink and tell us the food would be right out (and yes, he refilled my drink and no one else's). It was out 20 minutes after that when it finally came (again AN HOUR total). We sat there with empty glasses, no food, and no indication of what was going on. People who came in after us left before us and the only thing we got as far as an apology was from a completely different server who said, "We had some big tables." OK, I can understand delays but what I can't understand is completely ignoring your table.

What a pleasant surprise! Sunday night dinner was fabulous! I had the chicken Parma-cata, a bit of a hybrid between chicken Parmesan and chicken piccata. Very creative and delicious. The menu is great- sometimes you find one or two dishes that you REALLY want to try, but this menu had 7 or 8 dishes that jumped off the page at me. Great variety, from meat to fish to salads and a great kids menu. Our group of 8 all found a dish to enjoy. The interior is very inviting, sort of a contemporary hunting lodge theme. Really nice outdoor patio and great bar area with tvs which I imagine make it a great spot to watch sports. Finally, our server was fun, charming and very helpful. We are not in this part of Michigan very often but if we are ever nearby, I would make the effort to go here.
(5)GR G.
Hidden gem right down the road from Saugauck. Had some very tasty truffle fries and a bowl of their chili for the starters. The fries were seasoned nicely and were great for sharing. The chili was hearty and had a bit of a kick. Tried the full rack of ribs served with house made tater tots. Ribs are dry rubbed and then dressed in a nice bbq sauce and could be eaten with a fork and knife. On a different occasion, tried the chipotle lacquered salmon. Prepared nicely and loved the scallion potato cakes that accompanied the dish. For dessert, our wonderful server perfectly brûléed the dessert. Great example of a local restaurant doing things right. Insider tip: menu features seasonal offerings so make sure to try those before they're gone.
(4)Craig J.
Food is good. Menu very creative. Service is a bit slow, but in these small towns it can be hard to find good help. I had the Fish Tacos and my wife had the Wild Dog burger. And we both had the sweet potato fries. She and I both enjoyed our meals greatly. The fish tacos have a kick to them you might not expect, but not too much heat The decor is cool, a lot of large exotic taxidermy but in a very 'chic' way. Huge wine cellar you must peek at behind the bar Would go again for sure
(4)Stacey H.
Great patio. Lovely interior space. Our spinach cheese appetizer was wonderful. Shrimp pesto entree was full of super fresh ingredients. The enchiladas were delicious too. Huge portions. Our kids ordered pasta with cheese sauce and ribs from the kids menu. Both were fabulous. Only downfall- skimpy draft beer selection.
(4)Emily P.
Great atmosphere and food. Try the fish tacos and wild dog burger- sit on the patio if you can!
(5)Jon S.
I'm torn with this place. It wants to be at least four stars but can only achieve three. The food is serviceable and the atmosphere is actually good, but the service team appears to consist of either failed artists or high school juniors on summer break. I think with the right team spirit and appropriate communication of verve, that coveted fourth star could be within reach. Not so much that elusive fifth star, without a new management team, multi-carrier cellular boosters, and enhanced menu items. There's a reason Everyday People Cafe across the street had a line around the corner and we walked right jn to a 4-top here. But all things considered, it's better than Burger King.
(3)Keith G.
Great food. Great drinks. Fun atmosphere. The hostess was completely clueless, but everything else made us forget about it.
(5)Matt K.
My wife and I had dinner on the patio yesterday evening. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The pork enchiladas and chicken parma-cota (if I'm remembering the name correctly) with a lemon caper sauce were both excellent. The bartender did a good job making my wife's cocktail. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. No complaints at all. Would definitely go back to try some of the other unusual, appealing menu items.
(5)Emily B.
Came to this place on a sleepy, snowy night. We were the only table in the bar and felt like we had the place to ourselves (I'm sure it's a MUCH different story in the summer when the beach towns are booming!). Started with the hummus, which was delicious and enough to share for 2-4 people. Then enjoyed the Caesar salad with sweet potato fries, which were the best I've had! I loved the dipping sauce and the coconut flakes; so unique. Diners with me enjoy the enchiladas and the curry dish. Great options for gluten and dairy-free diners. Will def be back - next time to sit by the fireplace in the main dining room!
(4)Lisa P.
We had an awesome experience at this restaurant last evening. We ate outside on the lovely patio. We were served by the awesome Stephanie! The pork enchiladas were off the charts! The crab cakes were excellent and the chicken Parm was great! Try this restaurant if you are in the area!!
(5)Joy G.
Busy place. We were offered a table inside but it was so noisy. Asked for one outside and 20 minutes later, as promised, we were seated on the lovely patio. Cocktails at the bar while waiting were generous and reasonably priced. I had the Wild Dog Burger. It was the best burger I have ever had. Loved it. Can't speak to anything anyone else had because I was too busy with my delicious burger. The fries good too.
(5)Michelle B.
Best meal I've had in a while! Cute little restaurant downtown with an awesome menu and friendly service! I got the beef skewer with curry and jasmine rice. It was to die for! I'll be going back for sure
(5)Rich B.
Great spot. Try the steak or wild dog burger for lunch. Great liquor selection. Service is warm and friendly. We hit wild dog every time were in the area.
(5)Donna C.
Best ribs this side of "Twin Anchors" in Chicago! Fall off the bone with a delicious sauce, zippy but not too spicy just right. The fish tacos, wasabi salmon and crab cakes are equally as good. The decor is very attractive, the service friendly and casual and there is a patio for outside dining.
(5)Eric K.
Arrived at the Wild Dog Grille and we were lucky to be seated in the outdoor patio. Our waitress was fun and friendly . She made us feel extremely welcomed. Our drinks were really good. We ordered the fish tacos which were huge and very flavorful. We had a great creme brule for dessert which went fast. The service was excellent, the food was really good and the atmosphere was fun. Perfect way to get repeat customers. Will definitely go back again!
(4)M. Anthony C.
Dropped in during lunch hour and were seated immediately. Waitress was excellent even though 3 others we were not expecting joined us. Food was excellent.

Along the quaint main road of Douglas, shops and cafes line each side with a summer vacation, relaxed weekend getaway feel. Wild Dog offers a casual and comfortable dining and drinking establishment with a wide variety of apps and entrees. We filled up on a Mediterranean plate of hummus, roasted red peppers, feta, and lightly spiced pita, addicting sweet potato fries with a coconut ginger spice, a creamy crab and corn chowder, salads with avocado ranch dressing, and a spicy chili. For entrees, we feasted on the grilled barramundi with quinoa salad, adobo pork enchiladas, and toasted ravioli with portabello mushrooms and spinach. Cocktails and beers were okay, but the friendly service and sweet potato fries alone would bring me back.
(4)Oliver V.
All I did was sit at the bar with my wife and had de drinks. Best time I've had in long time. Bartenders were phenomenal. Drinks were stiff, well-crafted and served with a smile. Good times...good times.
(5)Amber B.
Fun dinner out for my birthday. They were busy, but service was really great. We ordered the hummus as an appetizer - it's homemade and has great flavor. I had the chicken and eggplant parmesan, which was really good. Lots of flavors. The tomato sauce was made fresh, a good sized piece of eggplant, and tender, juicy chicken all on a bed of fresh spinach that was slightly wilted from the heat of the food. Good stuff. My partner had a burger and sweet potato fries and she loved it. For dessert, we had their homemade creme brulee and coffees - it was my birthday so we splurged. Everything was very good. Love their atmosphere.

Stopped in for lunch while traveling down 131 to check out Saugatuck -- which was packed with tourists. Very clean, comfortable, but upscale design and atmosphere. Order the turkey salad sandwich and gf order a salad. Both came out quickly, presented well and were tasty. Server (Chris) was great! Would definitely check out again -- interested to see the scene at night on a weekend.

As someone who has been to EPC a dozen times, this treat across the street had been missed until tonight. We actually had been in twice to have a couple beers while we waited to get seated across the street. No more. This place made the rotation. Slow to get our drink order. Maybe 10+ minutes. I asked to substitute sweet potato fries and I received an app plate of fries along with the smashed Yukon golds (which were super tasty) felt kind of like a up charge move. But that's it for the bad. I got the ribs and my wife had the salmon. I thought to myself twice during the meal 'I'm glad I got the full slab'. I crushed the ribs. Fork tender and tasty. Sweet potato fries were crisp and tasty with the perfect amount of salt. Smashed Yukons were surprisingly good. I mean it's a potato.... But good, try them. Salmon was perfectly cooked with a nice sear. And chive potato cake was good. (Wife's meal so I only had a bite of each) Veggies on both plates looked to be local/seasonal, though I didn't ask. Not much done to them but perfectly cooked. Asparagus had the bit of snap needed. Creme brûlée was huge but neither my wife or I had any problem finishing our own portions due to how delicious they were. I dare say the huge dollop of whipped cream on the side was made in house. It had a really light sweetness and was extremely fluffy. We sat on their small patio which was nice. Cute but not much of a view. It's the food that will be bringing us back.
(4)Kay C.
Went here a few weeks ago with my parents on a Saturday. We got there around 1:00 for lunch. We got seated at a table in front of the fireplace, it was really nice. I ordered the Wild Dog Burger, one of the best burgers I've ever had, the sweet potato fries were good too. My partner had the hot turkey sandwich, I may have liked that one a little better than mine but they were both really good. I would definitely go back to the Wild Dog Grille. If you're ever in the area, it's worth a stop.
(4)Roger H.
On Vacation we were tired of the usual fare most eateries offer around sagutuck..so we went to douglas its charming not packed with people and found the wild dog grille its fantastic! welcoming and quiet and the best meal we had while on vacation. we had the steaks its a small menu and that just sounded good, they were prepared perfect and the salad served with it with was delicious, the drinks are great too! our waiter was dressed so casual t shit and jeans but he was so pleasent and knowelable, very artsy and welcoming we will return again! sit on patio if possible , they have a bar area with hightops and they have a dining room as well, but we wanted to sit outside.
(5)Kevin K.
Great Burgers.
(3)Brianne G.
Excellent burgers for lunch! My husband and I were vacationing in the area and stopped in for lunch. We had delicious drinks and server was very friendly. The wild dog burger is tasty and was cooked to perfection. The sweet potato fries were delicious.
(5)Vince S.
We had dinner on a Sunday evening and our waiter was very helpful and courteous. Our party of four did not have to wait. All four of us enjoyed our meals very much. It was a good spot and we will return.
(4)Abby A.
Great wait staff!! Great food! Will go back!
(5)Steve W.
This place was amazing. Great setting, interesting decor, very friendly staff, fabulous food, and reasonable prices. I ordered the hummus appetizer. It was awesome! I have lived in the Middle East and have had really good Mediterranean dishes in some very interesting placed. This hummus, feta, olives, and olive oil were off the hook. Next came the entree, flank steak and shrimp. This was a culinary masterpiece. I am not sure what else I could have ordered that I would have enjoyed more. Tasty, tasty, tasty! Like I said, this place is amazing. I would wager that it is the best dinner restaurant in town.
(5)Abby M.
One of the best meals I've ever had! I ordered the "Pan Seared Catch of the Day" which turned out to be scallops! Which was what I was craving. So I was already on cloud 9. The scallops were perfect as were the veggies it came with (no, really. I don't eat vegetables regularly. This is a huge deal). My mom ordered the Wild Dog burger which comes highly recommended from the reviews of other patrons. It did not disappoint! Also they make a VERY tasty Dark & Stormy. Just saying. For people saying it's like bar food I think it's more a cross between American Contemporary and updated pub fare. The restaurant itself is done very well. I loved the butcher paper table covering, but I'm weird like that. This was hands down the best restaurant in town and one of my top 5 meals.
(5)Susan L.
Wonderful gazpacho. Food is fresh and always good. Nice outdoor seating. A lot of locals eat here. It's our go to spot on the weekends.
(4)Suzie T.
We've really enjoyed lunch and dinner here. If you just want a pizza or sandwich or you want a nice dinner entrée you won't be disappointed. The chicken BLT salad and the avocado crab salad were very good. The grilled salmon and the catch of the day were very fresh and tender. My hubster always likes his calamari and I like my cream Brule. All and all it's a great little place in Douglas, which is across the street from Saugatuck. Check out some of the galleries after your meal!!
(4)Gary W.
Awesome place for ribs! If you have ever been to Twin Anchors in Chicago, these are similar and just as good! Great atmosphere with colorful locals. Sit in the bar area for the most enjoyment unless you want intimate dining which they have too in the back.
(5)Brandon H.
One of the best meals we had in Saugatuck/Douglas! A very nice, upscale bar and grille with plenty of options for lunch and dinner. I had their wood-oven pizza, and it was very tasty. Crispy crust and the cheese was very fresh. The duck nachos were amazing. The ingredient list might sound a bit off, but give them a shot, they're very good. Nice wine selection as well.
(5)Celia S.
My husband and I happened upon t his little miracle of a restaurant in Douglas, MI. The gazpacho was amazing (and we're from Los Angeles...we know gazpacho) and the service was friendly and relaxed!
(5)Susan G.
IF THEY'RE BUSY, DON'T BOTHER!!! We will NEVER go back. On 7/17 a Thurs. evening, 3 adults, around 7pm. Got a drink from the bar, waited for a table about 30-45mins. Three tables open in bar area. Told there were people at the bar taking them. Really? Then why isn't the childlike hostess asking them to please take their table, as there are a bunch of people waiting? Poor training. Get table.....now wait for waitress. Order appetizers (crab cake is good). Ask question about menu item, waitress says she'll ask, disappears, never did get answer. (I now notice that most people sitting outside on patio are NOT eating. Appear to be waiting.) We are now into this by about an hour and a half. The waitress appears. She says they got slammed with 2 large groups. We now ask her if we should just pay for our apps & go, (which was my gut feeling) or if she can give us a timeframe to get dinner. She says roughly 30mins. We believe her & stay. BAD MOVE. An HOUR later (as we're looking for our missing waitress to tell her we're leaving) we receive my burger, a piece of salmon & a small steak. Burger overcooked, btw. My husband has had enough BS, has lost his appetite and is pissed. Politely tells the waitress he doesn't want his dinner, he wiil pay for the other 2 but take his off. He will gladly speak to the Mgr. Ashley, Mgr., keeps repeating that they had these 2 large parties, and a cook was out. (MY problem, how?) My husband said he can appreciate that, but they should have conveyed that problem when we expressed our concern about the wait time. She was unconcerned and snotty. Through all of this, mind you, we continually told the waitress that we know it was 'not her fault' for their time management issues. They take off his dinner, waitress asks if he wants to take it home, he says 'no, he didn't pay for it.' We again tell her we know it's not her fault. He pays the bill & tips the waitress in cash. She returns with his card, And then, before she walks away, ( NOW HERE'S THE KICKER), she says "You know, the time you started at this table was only an HOUR ago. I looked at the receipt time and it was only an hour." YEAH, an hour since we ORDERED ENTREES, YOU SNOTNOSED PUNK!!! What about the hour and a half before that???? I couldn't believe she opened her mouth. Of course she waited until AFTER he tipped her. THIS IS TRULY THE WAITING ROOM FOR EVERDAY PEOPLE ACROSS THE STREET!!! They know what they're doing!! NOT this joint!!!
(1)Dennis P.
Awesome food! A local recommended this restaurant, my wife and were both wowed! We expected a good burger, pizza, etc. ambience was eclectic, stone, dark wood huge fireplace. Very cool. But back to the food, Eddie our waiter was so helpful, his recommendations knocked it out of the park. Chef Benjamin created an incredibly tasty burger. Gargonzola cheese, haystack onion rings, of course bacon and a fabulous grape sauce, and one more avocado/mayo/garlic spread. This burger exploded with flavor. One of the best burgers I ever had. My wife ordered ribs. They tender, tasty and fell off the bone. This is not a good restaurant, but great, stop by, be prepared for WOW!
(5)Liz K.
This is a solid, solid 4; maybe even 4+. I'm hesitant to give it 5 stars because I didn't leave the restaurant thinking, "wow, I would eat every meal here," or "hot damn, I wish there was a place like this in Chicago," but looking back now, I certainly can't think of anything that was less than pleasant about our meal here. It was maybe half full, giving the service an opportunity to focus on us, which they did without being overbearing. The chili and house salad were flavorful and well-proportioned, but not too heavy to fill us up before our lunches arrived. The boyfriend ordered a burger with sweet potato fries (it was his first time trying them and he was impressed - I would have liked them to have been a tad more crispy, but then again, it wasn't my meal). I ordered the grilled cheese, which was awesome! Kudos to Wild Dog on the creativity for that one - I never would have thought to combine pesto spinach, cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes, but now any grilled cheese that I order elsewhere are going to have a high bar to meet. In terms of atmosphere, I think the decorations are fitting and I appreciate that the tables aren't 12 inches apart from one another; there's actually space to walk between the tables and with fewer tables it won't get quite as loud. If there's a long line across the street, why not head over to Wild Dog?!

Tried stopping for a drink with 24 others on Saturday night after dinner at a private event and were turned away at 9:35pm as they were closed,,,very rude, not accomadating and lack of customer management means we will not be back. Closed at 9:35 Saturday night! Please... They s/b bankers! Regards,JT

Really enjoyed a trip with friends to the Wild Dog Grille- we were in from out of town for a wedding and decided to try this spot for our lunch one day. It was quite pricey for lunch, but we all thought the food was delicious. My bf had an amazing looking house burger- tried a bite and it was perfect, cooked exactly as he ordered. We split the spinach artichoke dip (loved it), and I enjoyed a watermelon and arugala salad that had great fresh ingredients that I found refreshing. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice- it appeared like a great spot tucked away in a cute downtown area. I'd definitely go back if I lived in the area :)
(4)S L.
My family and I vacation in the area every summer, and had good experiences at Wild Dog in past years. This year, the restaurant appears to be under new management and poorly run. I would not recommend this restaurant. There are few too servers on staff trying to wait too many tables, and service is extremely slow. We ordered appetizers, which were finally brought out with the meal - burnt - and sent back. The main dishes were all cold and looked as though they had been sitting for a while. We paid for our drinks and decided to dine elsewhere. It's a shame, too, because this used to be a good place to eat.
(2)Diane H.
I had the grilled cheese which was fab and I can't remember what my husband ordered but he kept picking at my plate. Also had some sort of a whiskey lemonade which was tasty...The decor sucks because it's a bunch of hunting trophies and the service was shite. I'm not sure what took so long to make lunch and the servers wear gym shoes but do an amazing disappearing act when you need something. Would we go back? Yep, for the food.
(4)Heidi M.
We were very happy that our Yelp App lead us to Wild Dog on a scorching Michigan Summer afternoon. Their patio looked lovely but we opted for the comfort of air conditioning. Their drink menu had lot of yummy sounding options and they offered a couple Michigan beers. The Colorado Bulldog stood out as a delicious adult version of chocolate milk. The sandwiches and burgers that we had were all very good. My Wild Dog burger was cooked perfectly and had a great char-grilled flavor. The cajun seasoning and avacado-mayo may have lacked a little, but the gorgonzola and grape-tomato jam on the burger more than made up for that. I had to steal a bite of my sister's Grilled Cheese, it looked too good to resist. Pesto, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes with lots of gooey cheese, mmmmmmmmmmmm. Their kettle chips were interesting and became kinda addicting. They are slightly sweet like kettle corn, which was a little unexpected.
(4)Mary R.
I'm rarely disappointed when dining here. My go to meal is their wild dog burger! I don't feel as guilty eating a burger with sweet potato fries. Their menu is very unique with reasonable prices. If you want to try something different, I definitely recommend this restaurant! GO!
(4)Christopher D.
Perfect gazpacho followed by a decadent Wild Dog burger. Patio seating was a definite bonus.

+ cool contemporary setting, + delicious Modern American fare, We went to the Wild Dog Grille twice during our two-night stay since their food and atmosphere really convinced us. The restaurant has a contemporary approach including preserved and mounted a

Very good place to go. Great service, interesting ambience. Food was above average.

Visiting for the weekend. I was impressed with Wild Dog's options and quality. I had sashimi tuna salad. Delicious. Tuna cooked perfectly. Gazpacho was amazing. I want the recipe. My boyfriend is vegan and he had a few different options. Let the staff know of veganism and they are happy to recommend some options. Server was very sweet. Bloody mary; like a salad of its own. Delish.

We love this place and tend to dine here a couple times per week. The drinks are great, service attentive, food is good, and owners are friendly and visible. The wild dog burger may just be the best burger in this part of Michigan with Gorgonzola, Cajun spices, and a grape tomato jam of some type. Try their side salad with chili lemongrass vinaigrette dressing. Amazing! Recently, we've started having their filet mignonette. Wow, as good or better than steaks we've had at NY steakhouses. It's really that good. It seems they aren't open on certain days of the week, so check before going but definitely a spot we continue to love!

Great food and service Nice atmosphere and decor

The customer service has gone way way way way south on this establishment. No water refills, no soda refills, the gazpacho soup was basically tomato paste with vegi's in it, disgusting, i couldn't even eat it. Nor did they take it off the bill after i told them i wasn't pleased with it. It wasn't what it is suppose to be. No bread was served before hand. The server said he can bring us out some crackers, when he reappeared he literally tossed a packet of oyster crackers on the table and walked away. *sigh* very dissatisfying. we wont be going back anytime soon, if i want to be treated like crap at a restaurant ide go to McDonalds. But then again McDonalds has better customer service than this place now. BAD DOG! BAD DOG! SHAME!

I come to Saugatuck/Douglas a couple times a year and I have never been disappointed with a meal from Wild Dog Grille. And everyone I've brought there raves about it. Just reading the wine list makes me want to order every bottle. We love that they offer so many great local beers. Their crabcakes are incredible. The sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had. And the crème brulee was pure perfection! My friend ordered the burger (and then we went back the next day for lunch and ordered the grilled cheese!) and talked about it for days. It is unusual to find food this good at a place that is this casual and unassuming. I truly cannot recommend it highly enough.

I know it's a busy holiday, but we felt rushed and pushed out. Our salad never came and our appetizer and entrees were delivered together. We were not even offered another glass of wine! I understand the restaurant was busy, but this place needs to understand every guest experience is important. The bartenders were nice. The service otherwise terrible. With exception of the friendly hostess.
(2)Jeff F.
Solid food best bet for a higher end bar and grill - pizza is great and fish tacos were solid - atmosphere is really nice as well
(4)Sam P.
Just finished dinner. Crab cakes, crab salad, and 1/2 slab of ribs. All tasted great. Sarah, our waitperson was great. Highly recommend it.

Good spot (especially in the summer.). They can open the windows and there's a great patio. Food menu is always changing and there's plenty of good dishes to choose from. If you hit the bar, Corey is a great bartender.

The Wild Dog Grille did the trick for me and my girlfriend--two weary tourists who were starving and worn out from long work weeks and a drive to Saugatuck from Chicago on a Friday night. However, in the grand scheme of things, this restaurant is extremely mediocre. We had a very nice and friendly server, but they have pretty typical bar food and it's just okay...certainly not anything special. I'd imagine they lure in a lot of customers when the weather is warmer and they have their patio open.

Pretty good for the area. I ate here last summer on one of my many trips to the Saugatuck area. I was recently trying to find out the name of this place when I realized they could use some more reviews. After all, that's how I found the place. Good food but I still think it's a step up from the normal bar fare. We had a couple of appetizers as our dinner. Good flat bread pizza and quesadillas. I had a specialty martini and I remember it being pretty good. It was a basic martini so it was nothing crazy, but I still felt like I could taste some alcohol (which is not always the case.) Overall, I will be going back and I think it's worth a visit in the area if you are looking for a nice lunch. Definitely better than The Butler in Saugatuck.

Went here on my first night in Saugatuck. Hostess and waitress were super nice. The food was good, had calamari for an appetizer, and fish tacos for the meal. My friend is allergic to garlic and the staff went out of their way to ensure he didn't have anything that had it in it.

We ate here on a busy Saturday evening when Everyday People Cafe was full and had a long wait. The WD Burger was amazing; also, the fish tacos were decent. The only open spot for us was the bar. The bartenders seem entertaining but the place is pretty noisy. One little addendum though that will likely make us never return though to this place. The next day we were in town walking around on a lazy Sunday afternoon 2 PM and decided one of us needed a restroom. When we asked at WD Cafe to use theirs they were very rude and told us to go to the public one down the road. Number 1: they were not busy; number 2 we asked; and number 3 we had just eaten there the nite before and told them so. Some b#$% girl at the host stand was the only one being confrontational and unyielding. The nite before another girl at the host stand was very pleasant and helpful. Quite the contrast. Please be consistent in the clientel and/or post a big sign in the window. We probably will never return based on this post visit experience.

Surprisingly good gazpacho here. Was a bit bummed that the dressing on my salad, which was purported to be chile-lime, tasted of neither...chile nor lime. Hmph.

This lace was very tasty. On this street, it can be hard to find a meal during the day. All of the restaurants seem to have weird daytime hours, but if you catch the Wild Dog grille while it is open, then you will have a good meal. The portions were very adequate and quite filling for a lunch. Definitely a place to stop for a meal. We sat outside in the shade, and enjoyed the weather on a 90 degree day.

Went here with my sister and our 5 kids (all 10 and under). They have a kids' menu - all of the kids found something they liked on it. 2 of the kids ordered the soup of the day and it was plenty enough for a meal. Our entrees were generous and good. All in all a very good experience and we'll be back if we're in the area.

Went to Wild Dog on 8/3/11 and had a so-so experience. First and foremost, the decor is kinda on the tacky side...the elephant tusks by the bar, the deer/antalope mounted on the wall, and the pictures of wild game in the bathroom. As for the food, they did not give you alot of fried calamari, but did give you a hearty house salad with your meal. The main course was enjoyed by all, except for the fact it took a long time to come out (I'd say at least 45 minutes. I had the talapia tacos which were outstanding...they give you two full filets and were very tasty. Service was OK...our drinks were refilled and the waitress was polite. One negative point was that we weren't even offered dessert, which I thought was kind of weird.

We love the pizza. Cold tap beer. Great decor. Very nice patio. The service is always very slow. Like crazy slow. But the food is so good that we keep coming back. It would get 5 stars if they had better service.
(3)Jen L.
My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. It was a beautiful day and we sat at the front of the bar area where the windows were wide open. Our waiter was very pleasant. We split a house salad with Lemon Grass-Chile Vinaigrette - amazing. We also split a make your own pizza suggested by our waiter with Pesto, Chèvre cheese, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Spinich. It was decadent! We will definitely go back!

The filet steak frites was excellent. Great service. Great menu.
(5)Jodi W.
Good for lunch, nice atmosphere, and a lovely patio with umbrellas. The food is okay, but not great either. I got the fish tacos, and they tasted slightly off - like mold. The salads were good and the service was good. The hostess could barely keep her eyes open - she looked high or hungover, but definitely not friendly. If you need a spot for lunch in Douglas or Saugatuck, it's an acceptable option, particularly if it's a nice day and you want to sit outside.

Love This place! A great restaurant In a small town. The decor is awesome and it feels so cozy in there, especially in the winter time with the fireplace they have in the dining area. The bar is big and they have a big selection of beer and wine as well as a full bar. I love their ribs and tilapia tacos. The spinach artichoke appetizer is DELICIOUS! The servers are great and super helpful if you have any questions about the menu. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner. I would NOT consider their menu "bar food" as other reviews have suggested.

Got a burg. Loved that burg. Wanna eat more of that burg.

Great place to eat in Saugatuck/Douglas. One of the nicer places and is family friendly. Casual pub feel with great patio when weather is nice. Menu is casual upscale with a nice twist on traditional items. The Margarita pizza and gourmet grilled cheese are great! Service is good and staff is very friendly... Never a wait, can walk right in, but not slow either. Have been coming here for 3 years now, and would like to see the menu changed up a bit... same menu for the past 3 years! We come back every year!

I will start off by saying that the food was good. It's fresh and tasty, and they have a reasonable selection to pick from. BUT we will never be returning again because of the shady service we received. This last visit, we were eating lighter simply because we had had a bigger meal earlier in the day so my mother and I ordered two salads (the ahi tuna salad and the strawberry field salad). The server seemed visibly miffed that we didn't order an appetizer or alcohol even though the bill was still going to be at least $30 with what we ordered. Then when she actually brought out bill, the salads were more expensive than the prices listed in the menu. When my mother mentioned it to her, the server gave a little giggle and came up with some ridiculous excuse saying the salad dressing sometimes bumps up the price (we did not vary the salads at all from how they were listed in the menu). Needless to say, I don't know if this is a restaurant-wide practice or her little sneaky way of trying to make more money on tips but I guarantee you, we will never be back there again. We are great tippers but no one wants to deal with thieves. The services has definitely gone downhill. Sad.

Have mainly been in the bar at Wild Dog. Until Andrew the bartender leaves, this bar is off my list. He's generally rude under the veil of humor. Zing is the place to go for upscale cocktails and great service in the Douglas/Saugatuck area.
(2)Gabrielle S.
I like this place. Not love, but I do enjoy. Things I love? The outdoor patio, the fact they make sweet potato fries(although slightly lacking something), the margarita pizza- yum, and the spinach artichoke grilled cheese- Very original and satisfying. The chickpea appetizer fritters were AWESOME. Not crazy about their salads or dressings. Mediocre. And people who love the caesar dressing I kept hearing reviews about forgot to mention it was Heavily laced with garlic- I repeat- Heavily.

Arrived around 5:30pm and it was already filling up (good sign). I had a 1/2 slab of ribs with sweet potato fries and a tomato bisque for starter, my wife had a burger. Great food, really nice atmosphere (we sat next to a large fire) and very friendly service. Very much enjoyed it, and would recommend it happily.
(4)Troy H.
Great place and atmosphere. Get the BBQ chicken pizza and the French martini. A bit pricey, $13 for 10 inch pizza and $10 for each cocktail.

I've been here one time, right after they opened. We had a nice lunch/early dinner - the ceasar salad was good and the desert we had was to die for! My only complaint and I'm sure they have remedied this, is that they only had one brand (probably the wrong term but oh well) of wine and it was NASTY and cheap. It had something to do with they liquor license. The decor was nice and we enjoyed sitting at the high tables next to the bar... I'd love to visit again Adan check out the wine list the next time I'm in town.

The first thing I noticed in the Wild Dog Grille was the gazelle on the wall. I swear that gazelle was staring me down all evening. The next thing I noticed was the kick in my Vanilla Sex martini, which I'm sure only intensified my certainty of the gazelle's malintentions. Anyway, once the boyfriend and I were sat after our wait, our stomachs were begging for a really indulgent dinner. So we both decided on a Caesar salad and steaks. I ordered the Filet, $25.95, and he ordered the New York Strip, which I believe was $19. The Caesar salad was sinfully delicious. As the bf put it, it easily could have been one of the best salads we've ever had. Then, came our steaks. I had finally decided to go all in for the Filet since I basically hate all steak except for a medium rare filet mignon that melts in my mouth. Unfortunately, my meat was tough and fatty. Again, the bf imparted wisdom: "It's like a filet from Applebee's." I tried about 3 bites before I gave up and the bf tried one too. When our waiter came back around quite a bit later (he was quite busy, so I had just munched on the plate's veggies while we waited for him), he took the plate to see what he could do. I told him I was pretty much done (I had been eating my veggies and the bf's strip, which was actually quite delicious) and didn't want anything new. He took $15 off the $25 steak and offered us a free dessert, which seemed quite reasonable to me. The dessert, a key lime tart, made me incandescently happy. Literally. It was so sweet and tart, my whole face flushed and heart quickened. It was delicious. In the end, this would have been a five-star experience without the bad steak. I would take off two stars for that steak, but the waiter's apologies and kindness definitely added an extra star for service. I'll definitely be back, hopefully in the summer so I can take advantage of the beautiful patio they have set up.

My husband and I took a day trip to Douglas for our anniversary and ended up at this restaurant. It was fall but the temperatures were very mild so we sat on the restaurant's adorable side patio. There were twinkly lights and a big umbrella over our table. As the evening cooled off the manager brought out a portable fire pit. It was wonderfully cozy. Add to that the fact that the wine was tasty, the salad dressing was off the charts, the food was good, and the dessert was fab. It was just a great evening and an adorable place to eat.
(4)Matthew J.
Relaxing American atmosphere. Food was good, the white bean soup was excellent.

Ate here last night with some friends... It was really busy so we ended up just having dinner and drinks at the bar. The bartender was very nice and the burgers that we ordered were really good! The sweet potatoe fries were so good and different than normal fries. The only thing that was a little bothering was the fact that the three of us received a check that was all on one which normally wouldn't be a problem, however two of us didn't have cash... When we asked to have the bill split they seemed very annoyed that we had asked and could tell they didn't want to take the time to do it. Besides that small issue things were very good:)

I only had a drink here, but definitely will be back soon for some food. I had a fantastic bloody mary - with one of the most creative garnishes ever - a slice of awesome sausage! This is second only to the spiced shrimp I had at a now defunt restaurant called Georgia in LA - hm! I love Bloody Mary's so when I get a good one I remember it. The decor was cool - even if I felt a tad bad about all of the pretty dead animals on the walls. It's a great space and a brand new building in downtown Douglas.

I didn't get to eat here, but want to come back for the Grilled Cheese. It sounded awesome, being made with, among other cheeses, their spinach cheese dip. The bartender/owner we spoke to was very laid back and told us all about his trip to Africa to get decorations for the place (Wild Dog = the kind found on the African savanna, not some moronic tourist-trap-named debacle). He also seemed very knowledgable about beer. He recommended an excellent Bavarian he told me he was selling at almost cost because he liked it so much that he wanted everyone else to know about it. Can't wait to go back.
(4)Paul S.
Good food, salad and poppyseed dressing and summer squash roasted red pepper soup good. Good burgers. Good chicken club. Service was not great. After asking twice I went to the bar myself for condiments and sugar for iced tea. Had to ask for drink refills too. Just inattentive and they weren't busy, it was mid afternoon between lunch and dinner on a Friday. But, as I said, the food is good - the sweet potato fries.
(3)David G.
It is hit or miss with the service there. The food is great but they don't provide bread prior to ordering (even though we saw another table with it - we were told it's an appitzier). If you are looking for modern all american food joint, this is for you. Just dont expect any bread but oyster crackers instead.

Fantastic! Me and my fiance went to Saugatuck this weekend and we stopped in Wild Dog for dinner and i have to say it was a great experience! The wait was long, but no surprise since it was The Venetian Festival and the all the restaurants were packed. The bartender was great, our server was fantastic and very accomodating, since my fiance is vegan we often have a hard time eating out, but this was not the case here! The food was great!

Went here this past weekend with the girlfriend and had a really pleasant time. The vibe is grown-up, not that kids aren't welcomed. I started off with a martini made exactly to my specifications (I'm that rare bird that likes 'em wet, but not dirty). We shared calamari for an appy and I'm happy to report that these appeared to be hand-battered, and not the "Mrs Paul's" equivalent of calamari (which one finds all-too-disappointingly-often, even in supposedly "better" establishments). Dipping sauces (a sriracha-based cocktail and a dill/yogurt tartar) were good but dished up with a very light hand. OK, so we had burgers (she a regular, me a Wild Dog), but if the joint screws up a burger then there is no hope they can do anything else right. These were excellent; tasty patties of manageable size with just the right amount of drippiness. Sweet potato fries were about the best I've ever had and I know you're thinking "how difficult can it be to make good sweet potato fries?", but, people, it's amazing how many establishments can make a complete mess out of the most basic of dishes. Oh, and the staff was upbeat and pretty efficient, although it bears mentioning that the restaurant was at about three-quarter capacity. (Alas, who knows what havoc is wreaked during peak tourist season.) All in all, a nice alternative to EPC (if you're looking to give your wallet a break), or to Saugatuck tourist traps (if you are a not-unreasonable diner who simply wishes to get what she pays for). We will be back for the more upmarket menu offerings given our highly positive experience with the burgers.

The lack of service drove us to leave after 10 minutes. We would have given it a zero star but that is not an option here.
(1)Sarah T.
Ate at Wild Dog twice during our weekend stay. The food was terrific - full of flavor and lots of interesting options. For dinner, my husband had chicken piccata and I loved the miso salmon. We enjoyed a drink at the bar with super-friendly bartenders, then ate outside on the patio during a beautiful Michigan evening. The next day, we were shopping nearby and decided to stop for lunch. This time, though, our server was not proactive at all, though accommodating. She did not offer us soup/salad even though it was included with our sandwiches. When we inquired, her comment was "well, a lot of people don't want anything more than the sandwich at lunch." Huh? Then, my grilled cheese came out burned completely black and inedible. When I pointed this out to her, she was confused, but did get me another sandwich. Don't be afraid to speak up, as they are responsive.

Watch your credit card bill. We were here in August and had drinks at the bar before getting our table. The bill was $14.50 with a $3.00 tip (not a bad tip). The bill came through as $19.50 on the credit card. I called the restaurant since there was no mistaking the 3 for a 5 and the total was not hard to read either. They said a manager would call back in 5 - 10 minutes. NO CALL and it's been a week. I don't want to waste lots of time over $2.00 but if the bartender does this to many people for small amounts he could be pocketing lots of cash. I will complain to the credit card company now. I wanted to make it easy for the restaurant but since they didn't care to call back I'm angry about this. It is theft. The bartender was kind of cute which is why I thought a $3.00 tip was good for 2 not great drinks. By the way our meal was very good but the 1 star is because of the lack of response to my call which was made during off peak restaurant hours. Don't steal!! Don't steal from your customers!!

It was Labor Day afternoon and my family and I were hot after a hike to and from Saugatuck Dunes beach. The patio seating next to the Wild Dog Grille looked cool and inviting, so we gave it a try. My son's hamburger came a bit overdone for his taste, but my daughter loved her calmari, my wife said the spring rolls were very good, the crab cake was tasty, and my seared Ahi tuna salad was also good, although the dressing could have been more interesting. The decor inside was very pleasant, but the patio was great. It's one half of what was probably the footprint of a previous building, and fills the space between the Wild Dog and the building to the south, with tall windows letting light into the restaurant the whole way. An iron fence separates it from the other half of the space, which belongs to a garden store. The garden store's half is and attractive mini-garden full of plants, garden sculptures, and a fountain or two, which really adds to the ambiance. The tables all had umbrellas, which nearly made a complete roof over the space, and the armchairs had springs which gave them just the perfect amount of bounce. The only sour note was no fault of the restaurant: the two men at the table next to us were smoking through most of our meal, and the smoke kept drifting our way. I would have asked to move, but the only free tables were at the front of the patio, and had a bit of sun on them, which would have made them hotter than where we were. I would definitely eat there again.

Just had lunch at the Wild Dog and we really enjoyed it. We had a table outside on a beautiful day. I had the meatballs stuffed with gorgonzola cheese, a nice glass of wine, and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. All were excellent. My husband had a bowl of the corn soup, the gourmet grilled cheese, and a beer. He enjoyed the soup and the beer, but thought the grilled cheese had too much spinach and artichoke on it. He also enjoyed some of my chocolate cake for dessert. Very relaxed atmosphere. For our lunch we spent about $45 including tip.

We ended up here one Friday night when the wait at Everyday People Cafe was 2 1/2 hours. We sat at the bar far longer than we were told we'd have to wait and even went up to the hostess twice to see where we were on the list. We were "next" for over 1/2 hour. If they can't turn over one table in 1/2 hour, how do they expect to stay in business? When we were finally seated, the service was quick and the food arrived relatively quickly. In fact, they made my individual pizza with pesto instead of the tomato base I'd asked for and when the server offered to have it re-made, it arrived less tan 5 minutes later; my husband was still working on his second fish taco... So why did it take so long to get seated in the first place? The food was good - nothing special - and the price was middle of the road as well, The ambience was so loud, you couldn't have a conversation with the person sitting right next to you. I don't think I'd go back.
