Super friendly staff (and patrons) and the best almond croissant you'll ever eat. Great coffee and a cozy atmosphere make this the perfect place to start your day. Be sure to include some homemade baked goods with your order!

Meh. The old man barista was rather surly. Americano was okay but the ladies cappuccino was bitter and bland. Served in nasty foam Costco cups. Pretty lame for a corner coffee shop.

Nice spot to enjoy a coffee. Music in the evening is a treat, small but sweetly set with a few tables could use a few more chairs as people drifted in. Locals like to park for the morning, tough to linger w/o seating

Brutal... Fruit flies nesting on a pastry in a glass case. Lattes that taste like instant coffee with seasoning. Definitely not a latte. Cold, dry "cinnamon roll" with no icing. When asked about the icing was told they would be making that later today. Thanks! Bland breakfast sandwich tasted like cardboard. Watched some guy buy and eat aforementioned fruit fly pastry. Don't understand the positive reviews. Other options are not that limited. If you want a good breakfast or coffee go to one of the many other great diners in the area.

Lovely location and staff, but food and drink was lacking. Would recommend the breakfast burrito-really tasty, would order again. However, the tea was luke warm, the cappuccino and French toast distinctly average.

My cousins and I were driving through Doulas, and Respite looked like the perfect place to have coffee in the morning. I was impressed with the fact that I could get a doughnut and a tea for the price of a latte. The only gripe I had was that the employees didn't seem very friendly.

Guys, I don't want to be dramatic....but Respite is pretty much my favorite place in the whole world. I would Lorelei Gilmore my life to move back to Douglas and start/end each day at Respite. Stars Hollow ain't got nothing on this joint. And while the ladies behind the counter aren't exactly the Dreamy Luke of Gilmore Girls - I mean, they aren't at all, they're much friendlier and also, are women! - they still serve up a great cup of joe. So even if you don't uproot your whole life just so you can move to town to become a regular, still stop by Respite with as much frequency as you can muster and say hi to Renee for me!

Coffee was great but the staff was very rude! No emotions whatsoever. It was like trying to get a British royal guard to smile. Overall though, I loved the coffee shop. It was very cute inside and great for hanging out in the mornings or mid afternoon. I really enjoyed my coffee. I would recommend getting the Hooker.

A great place to hang out and have a wonderful cup of coffee. Desserts are all homemade and a great selection of yummy sandwiches.

I ordered a coffee called Hooker and it was really good I also got a jelly filled donut. The only problem I had was the staff was very rude they didn't seem happy at all.

Not impressed. My cafe au lait was awful. They do not know how to steam milk and make foam. Worst part was the attitude of the left handed girl behind the counter. She did not listen well and our order was simple. At the sugar station there is a sign that says every day matters--say hello and smile and listen to others. Take your own advice. I will not go back.

We had an amazing experience at Respite this past July 4th. A group of eight of us thought that Respite might be open to grab an ice cream cone and wait out the traffic-jam after the fireworks. One in our group walked ahead and, unfortunately, Respite was closed. He did see a couple locking the door and commented we were all checking to see if they were open for ice cream. The lovely young lady and nice young man said they were just grabbing some water after the fireworks. This was her mom's place. She offered to open up just for us and help us with our ice cream 'fix.' How often does this happen anymore, even in a small town? Not only did they open up and serve us, they were extremely pleasant and warm to us all. This was definitely an 'above and beyond' moment. Attached is a picture of us all enjoying our ice cream inside Respite!

Had the grilled cheese sandwich, delicious! Didn't try the coffee but it worries me that they do not have a dishwasher and I don't think I'd order food here again for that reason. Staff was polite but I agree with MJ B, they need an atmosphere.

OK, not the best coffee shop here. I was kinda pissed about them not having any artificial sweetener. Isn't that a coffee shop staple these days?

Great coffee - but expensive side for espresso drinks. Need to pipe in some music because the place was lacking in atmosphere. it was dead quiet in there on a sunday and the tourists and all - it could have had a much more interesting vibe and nobody was in there which made me think that the decor could use a little warmth. Like, some plants and some alternative mags and newspapers and maybe take it up a notch since the area caters to such a diverse population. But glad it is there I guess.

Good coffee, great dessert bars! You must try these. Friendly small town atmosphere. The staff are great and are just like part of your family!

Amazing little place!! All of the workers are nice and the owner is hilarious! So many options but ask what they recommend.

Wow! What an unexpected and unassuming little treat of a cafe in downtown Douglas! After three days in town we despaired of finding anything edible but this place is great. If you just need morning joe, or something more complicated for breakfast or lunch, it's a must stop. Lots of locals and tourists alike eating here--a very good sign! We had coffee and muffins one morning; breakfast burrito and french toast (OMG!) the next. Free wi-fi (ask for password). Warning: inside is very small with only 4-5 tables, and one outdoors. Counter service. All their breads come from Salt of the Earth in Fennville (awesome!) and food is prepared with loving care. We're going here for breakfast everyday while on va-ca!
