I've been here twice now, once with my parents, and once for my girlfriend's birthday brunch. Both experiences were fantastic. The food is a mix of southern comfort food and Mexican style dishes. That alone sold me right off the bat from the reviews. Walking into the restaurant makes you feel like you're in a basement of a collector of 1960s vintage items. The space itself is huge, and I never had to wait even on a Saturday morning. We started off with a bloody both times, and it was exactly what was needed. Your choice of mix and an assortment of hot sauces to add your own spice and a piece of celery and pickle added. I got the Heikki's Suburban Burrito, which was a mix of a pulled pork sandwich and a burrito with avocado. Holy cow. This isn't a burrito you can eat by hand, but you will want to eat all of it. Highly recommended. Their brunch menu was also fantastic. I went with the Huevos Montulenos and was not disappointed. Scallion cakes were sweet and added another dimension to the perfectly fried egg. I may have enjoyed their brunch more than dinner menu. Their service both times was just so-so. Our second encounter it took the waiter 15 minutes after he cleared our plates to bring the bill, and you could clearly see him chatting away with the rest of the staff in the kitchen. Not great, but not bad enough to steer me away. Overall, a great place to leave feeling like you gained 5lbs without being mad about it.

The service we got wasn't the best. Granted, it was at the very end of the day but some things stood out as poor. Our waiter forgot to visit our order to take our orders until we asked another employer where he was. They took the salt/pepper off our table before we even got food. Many of the food items on the menu were out since it was the very end of the day, which I understand completely and don't fault them for that. Our server was very apologetic, and offered us a discount because of the inconveniences, which we appreciated. Other than that, it was a really cool experience with delicious food. I know they're moving their location soon to Midtown so I'm excited to check that out. They menu items are so yummy sounding that I can't wait to go here again. I ordered the Mex Mash which was chorizo and eggs on top of mashed potatoes with a side of black beans. Everything was delicious except the chorizo, which tasted more like ground turkey than the super flavorful salty meat I know so well. I will definitely go here again earlier in the day because I'm sure that I'll get a better experience than I did this time, based on the reviews.

So, here we are the day after drinking. The dreaded day after... We woke up hungry as hell. And we stumbled to this treasure . I think I found my favorite place in Detroit. This place is a dream , it's huge and decorated with tons of things especially mannequin heads. The people are super nice . The music was great. Not too loud but just loud enough Oh and don't let me forget the food. Delicious. I had the chilaquiles . Yum. Ps. They serve alcohol again.

I was disappointed with my experience here. I came here to pick up a carry out during my lunch hour since I was pretty curious as to what the place was that had Mannequin heads in the window. First off there was no A/C on. It was a hot day and the only air circulation they had were from a couple open doors. I was glad I did not decide to sit down to eat. Nothing is more annoying then sitting in a restaurant that chooses not to use A/C. The waitstaff that was at the hostess stand was really nice and accommodating. She gave me all the time I needed to look over the menu. When I was ready to order she was able to customize my choices off of the choose your own menu to make a deconstructed to go meal of what I wanted. So great customer service. I brought my lunch back to work and dug in. This is where my second point of disappointment came into play. It was obvious the shrimp was a frozen shrimp due to lack of taste. The beans and rice were not very good either. Pretty much everything I had ordered lacked taste down to the corn bread. I actually threw out half of my meal because I just didn't have it in me to finish it. I am not sure if my food experience would have been better if I ordered a burrito, tacos, or anything else aside from the shrimp meal I had. I unfortunately will not be spending another $13.00 for lunch here again which is a shame because I really was digging the decor and customer service.

I reviewed this restaurant some time ago and the review disappeared. Thats ok. This was in my opinion going to be Detroit's hip and hot upcoming restaurant. Detroit nostalgia in every direction, decorated with vintage hubcaps, typewriters and old memorabilia. Cool tiki bar stuffed into the corner but very very classic. They served all kinds of custom made tacos. Made to order just the way you liked. Built inside an old bank vault, the basement bar lounge left you feeling a bit insecure. The featured heavy metal karaoke on the weekends. Im going to miss it. What will happen to all the cool old vintage stuff?

I'm sure most of you already have an idea of what this place is like and how it's unique, so I'll cut to the chase. I've been here a few times and their menu is like any other. Their menu is really robust and you'll find yourself wanting to try something new each time you visit. At least in my case. There's no wasted space on the menu for meager sides, like, a house salad or soup--that's my type of menu. :) I had their Mexi-mash which was tasty but so spicy I couldn't even finish it. And I like spicy. Not sure if i was was having a weak-sauce day or what. Bummer. I also had the Boddicker - you can't really go wrong with this one and their portions are huge. The table service is a little iffy and could improve, but not so bad that it's stopped me from coming. The food keeps me coming back. Brunch, burritos, and waffles, oh my.

This was a great find. The Fisher Building is gorgeous, and walking through the ground floor and into the eclectic decor of the Zenith was a real treat. We stopped for brunch on a Saturday morning, and had no problem getting a seat. The waiter was very helpful and willing to tweak the items on the menu per our preference, which we both appreciated. The coffee was really good. It must be brewed with cinnamon or something. Super soothing. Side dishes rocked here. Great supporting cast. Mashed sweet potatoes were good. Chorizo was better. Mashed sweet potatoes mixed with chorizo = AMAZING! Oh, and candied mango bacon. 'Nuf said.

Wow. Excellent food, service and drinks. Norris is am amazing waiter, we actually thought he owned the place he treated is so well. Brunch is awesome, everything is cooked to perfection. Really happy with the selection, there is something for everyone. A pitcher of mimosas is only $15. Their main menu is amazing. Personally as a Canadian I had to try the poutine. It's definitely their own twist on poutine but it is to die for. Finally tried the margaritas and I can honestly say they are the best I've had in the city. This is my btw favorite place. The decor keeps you entertained as well!

Loved this place. We went for dinner on a Saturday night around 6 and it was not to busy. I love the decor and the location, it is inside the Fisher building which is the most stunning building ever. Back to the Zenith. The drinks are great I had a passion fruit martini that knocked my socks off. We had the chips and 3 salsa app, very tasty and the chips were fresh and hot. For dinner I did the quick menu which lets you build you dinner into whatever you want. My father in law built a burrito that looked great! I built a tostada salad. The salad had line shrimp, beans, rice, spinach, mango salsa, olives and a chipolte sour cream. The salad was perfect I" got to be picky and get exactly what I wanted. My husband got the burger which was outstanding cooked perfect medium rare. The burger had a lot of flavor with the bacon and fried green tomato. The service was good and friendly. They explain the menu perfect and help when needed. Cannot wait to go back to try their brunch.

I live nearby so I have been here several times since they opened. Let's begin with the obvious... the decor is an eclectic mix of pure Americana. Trust me every item you think is junk the person at the next table is gushing over. Service is typically exceptional. The food similarly is not "conventional" (especially not conventional Mexican). I have had brunch here a lot (ALL DAY Sunday... just saying) more specifically I've had the chicken and waffle breakfast more than I care to admit (with a modification which they recommended the first time I was there). This food is not for everyone but certainly worth a try. One thing I recommend is chatting with the servers as to what you may enjoy. I have never regretted asking. The "Lightening Fast" dinner (build your own burrito/salad/quesadilla/etc) is fun, and frankly I'm very good at it (lol). If you are bad at picking food combos this may not be a good call. Just make sure you get the poblanos (any style)

Odd, out of things, over-seasoned, yet accommodating. We had a party of 8 for dinner on Saturday about two weeks ago. They sat us in our own little room, with the cool bulldog painting. Our server was quick & polite and apologized for the kitchen running out of some basic items--like beef & chicken! Yes. They were out of beef and chicken. He warned us ahead of time, but the kitchen failed to alert him that they were also out of mac 'n cheese, which one of us had ordered. For appetizers, we ordered chips & gauc, and the olive & cashew plate. Their guacamole is over seasoned--spicy and over processed--thin. I didn't like it. However the cashews were delicious! I guess the majority of our group ordered catfish-type dinners and were pleased. I had a salad with shrimp. The shrimp was disgusting. Chewy. Overall, I did not like their food. At all. But the atmosphere & service was notable.

One of the best new restaurants to open in Detroit and somehow it keeps getting missed by the media. I have been here for both lunch & breakfast and everything I have had is amazing. Their decor is also worth coming to see even if you aren't hungry. Every time you turn a corner there's something else interesting or in some cases a bit creepy. I can't wait to check out the tiki bar for drinks. I just got confirmation that they got their liquor license! Favorite breakfast item: Huevos Montelenos a unique spin on a traditional dish All the lunch/dinner items are great too.

I was in the Fisher Building on business and was eager to try this place for lunch, and I'm glad I did. The pluses of The Zenith include the cool, eclectic decor; the views of 2nd Street and W. Grand Boulevard out of the large windows; and the food. The chips and guac were fresh and tasty, as was the pulled pork burrito I had. The Mexican rice was a side I could have taken or left...it wasn't that fab. The people I was with really enjoyed their meals, too. The one minus was the service. The server had to be flagged down more than once not only by my table, but also by the table next to us. The server was pleasant, but might have had a little too much on his plate (no pun intended) to be more attentive. Had the service been a bit better, I would have given five stars. All in all, I'll definitely go back to try some of the other mouthwatering fare on the menu that intrigued me.

Yesterday was my second time at The Zenith and I am a little less enamored then last time. I went with a group of 10 for Brunch. We had a reservation and it took about 45 minutes for us to get a table. Another 10-15 minutes to get water on the table. The hostess seemed almost annoyed that we had a large group, but they weren't complaining when they took the reservation. While I liked my food last time, the Appalachian Crepes I chose to order this time was not a good flavor combination so I did not end up eating my meal (first time ever in my life). The waiter was nice about it and removed it from my bill, although he didn't come back during the meal to check on our table, so I did not have a chance to tell him until the meal was over. Overall the service here could use some work, whether it be to hire more staff, or just better train everyone to be more efficient.

This is the best restaurant I've ever experienced. I'm am so in love with the art, food, people, and of course the epically beautiful Fisher building. I will plan future trips to Detroit around the presence of the Zenith.

The look of this place is ultra chic. Green and blue, being the dominant colors, with many nostalgic items displayed. I remember a vintage sign advertising Playtex swim caps! Haha. Service was hit and miss. The host ignored me standing there for a good 30 seconds, then finally looked at me. However, after making eye contact, he said nothing. So I jumped in saying, "Hi, are you seating for brunch?" which finally got the process started. Waiter was super friendly and pretty attentive, and gave me some time to look at the menu. I ordered the Appalachian crepes. These were two very large crepes, stuffed with apple butter, cheddar and smoked ham. I've never really loved sweet and sour food, but the blends of various flavors work really well together here. This was served with lots of potato/home fries on the side. All for ten bucks! Coffee was really good too, with a hint of cinnamon flavor. Overall, a very nice experience. Waiter got a little slow, as time went on, but one of the other waiters tried to help out by asking if I needed anything. The credit card slip was brought to me without a pen to add a tip and sign. However, still lots of smiles from the staff and I was addressed by name a couple of times. I am excited to return and try some other menu items, as many sounded delicious!

I've eaten here several times for dinner, and was pleased with the food and service. Once, there was one tiny goof with our order, but they apologized, corrected it, and gave us half-off that entree. It completely made up for any inconvenience. For the portions you get, the price is super. There are so many great choices that I have a hard time deciding. Same goes for the cocktail selection, which I should add: the super-strength of the drinks makes it feel like you're getting a double for the price of one. There's a ton to love about that. I'm a fan of the thoughtfully curated collection of bizarre objects arranged throughout the expansive space. So many conversation starters. Imagine if you're on a first date or with a group of people - you instantly have an array of things to ponder the origin of - never a boring time! During one visit, I checked out the beautifully decorated tiki lounge area and fell in love. I help run a local non-profit, and we needed a large space to host our yearly event. This was the perfect spot, but I thought for sure it'd be a stretch to book it, and assumed it'd cost us a lot (based on the "event space fee" for other beautiful spaces in Detroit). I got in touch with Robert, who was happy to host us and worked with me on some potential dates for the event. Our costs were just food and drinks, which were a bargain. Our event was so well-received! The Zenith staff was completely accommodating, and our guests had the best time. More than once, I heard "it's so tranquil in here, I don't want to leave." Some of them had never been in the Fisher Building, let alone Zenith, so I expect them to return again and again, as I plan to continue doing. Brunch is the next thing I'd like to try. If you're looking to explore a new place, this should be on your list. If you're playing tour guide to visitors from out of town, this is a must-do, and if you have a large group, bring them here, you will not be disappointed! Oh!! Last thing! For those unfamiliar with the Fisher Building, it is completely stunning. We had our wedding photos taken there, and if the Zenith been around at the time, we'd have had our wedding photos taken there too. Zenith is a gem inside of a gem.

First things first, when I took my first sip of coffee I was caught off guard but soon decided it was one of the best cups I'd had outside my home in a very long time. I'm guessing they add cinnamon and something else to give it great flavor and zero bitterness. I normally add cream to my coffee but refrained here because the coffee was good enough on its own. I had cornbread french toast that I really enjoyed (if eating every bite is any indication). I would have liked a bit more blueberry sauce because the cornbread can be a bit dry. For the atmosphere alone, you must check out this place. If you have an aversion to clowns, BEWARE...you'll see.

We had brunch here recently and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was original and matches the eclectic decor perfectly. The food is a perfect combination of classic dishes and flavors with a fresh twist. We will definitely be back for more.

UNREAL. This place has some of best brunch you can get. Get the Poutine, huevos or cornbread french toast. Even the granola is FIRE. The service is not great, but it's worth it. Love the area too. New center is cool place.

Stopped here for what we thought would be a late Saturday lunch, around 1:30. Rather vague service; host (or whoever he was) seated the couple before us, saying "I'll be right back...", never to be seen again. After a while, we flagged down a server to be seated. Then we found out that they were only serving the brunch menu. We asked about ordering lunch items but got a hesitant response, so we reconciled ourselves to having a second breakfast. Then, when our food came out, we noticed that our neighboring tables were all eating burritos and other lunch items... Really?? So, we both chose the most non-breakfast'y item we could find on the smaller brunch menu, which was fried chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was very good, as was the waffle. I'm thinking the lunch we'd wanted would have been pretty good as well... I always think it's too bad when a review takes a hit simply because of service but that's exactly the case here. Our server was OK once the order was placed but, ultimately, we weren't all that happy with the meal. Seems reasonable to expect lunch food at 2pm on Saturday (or at least clearly advertise otherwise) and a nominally pleasant and efficient staff.

I hesitate to write this review because I started the day off not in the greatest of moods. I was really hoping a trip to Zenith for a co-workers birthday lunch would improve my attitude. However... The hostess was dressed very much like a hooker I pass every day on the way to work. Her clothing was ill fitting (no matter her actual size wasn't even what I would consider "pudgy" - it was way too small) and see through. Her breasts popped out of the top of her too small lace bra. I know it was lace because her shirt was see through. Her bra straps - shoulder and back - were all far too visible. Her pants were so bleached and ripped we could all see the pink and brown polka dots. Ladies - never wear brown polka dots with white/thin pants. I shouln't even have to explain why. Not only did she look unprofessional, her demeanor was just as unpleasant. She was rude. Just very rude. The server was polite. He did offer some explanation of how to order as we had diners who had never eaten at Zenith. He also offered up the list of 7 items they were currently out of. One item was cornbread which then pulled several menu option off the table. I asked for lemon with my water. On the 4th attempt, I actually got some. My quesadilla only had 3 of the 5 menu items I requested. And one of those three was actually wrong. When you ask for chicken and get beef.... ugh. I would love to find just one good thing about dining here today. Sadly it will not happen.

I love this place! The food is fantastic, a very eclectic menu but nothing I wouldn't try. I love the location. I wish they would stay open later and add music to the venue for sure! The food can be slow if you have a larger party but where isn't it? I met the owner when they first opened and loved her story and how Zenith came to be. I absolutely support this place! My first time eating there I had lunch with my sister, she introduced me to the place. The second time I ate there was the same day for dinner with a friend! It was that good! 'Nuff said!

I recently read an article about new must try restaurants in Detroit. Went in with hopeful expectations seeing as how it's in the Fisher Building. Location 5 stars especially considering that parking in the garage was free, which is not the case at many other city locations. The decor is an eclectic mix of retro objects and although it has a diner feel to it, it still works nicely. Unfortunately, that is where the good ends. Upon being seated we were given the "lightning fast" menu and a drink menu. I don't know if there regular menu wasn't available, but that is all we got. Their special was to pick 7 ingredients which they would wrap in a burrito, or serve on bread. Many of the ingredients didn't seem to meld well with others, but I assumed there was a chef that could put a spin on these and wrap it in a tasty package. I was wrong! Each ingredient chosen was slopped on the next and served on bread. I would term it gourmet prison food that my 8 year old could assemble. You can see this fine debacle of a menu on their website. It got worse. their gourmet drink menu drinks we chose were about the two worst drinks we've had in recent memory. Maybe their sandwiches, and brunch are devine, but the menu we received was ridiculously terrible!

The food at The Zenith is actually not too bad. And, I like the funky/hipster decorations as well. The service, however? Not good at all. You would think that a restaurant immediately adjacent to the Fisher Theater would be quick and on top of things. That was not our experience at all. We went here for dinner prior to seeing a show at the Fisher Theater. We waited 25 minutes for our drink order (which was taken by the hostess) and almost 40 minutes at our table before our order was taken! The server half halfheartedly apologized and made comments about how busy it was. The restaurant was only about 2/3-3/4 full AND there were at least 3 other servers that I saw! Our drinks took about 20 minutes to come out, but we did receive our food in a reasonable amount of time after we placed our order. If you plan on coming here before a show, make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

decent food, but really weird service. i had brunch here with some friends and i got to try the kick out the hams and the cornbread french toast. the kick out the hams was great! the crispy fried green tomato was perfect with the sticky corn salsa and creamy hollandaise. i would definitely get it again. cornbread french toast was was really good at first, but got kind of cloying near the end. i'd say i still really liked it, but it's better shared and ordered at the end for dessert so you can eat it when it first comes out. one of my friends was vegan, which our server didn't seem to know what that meant, which is fine. so we just asked if they had anything without dairy or eggs, and he didn't know either and for some reason wasn't able to find out after going to the kitchen to ask. he recommended a sauce that he said he didn't think had any dairy and when it came out, it was clearly a yogurt sauce. i serve sometimes, so i totally get that food restrictions are annoying, but i wish he had played it safe and just said no instead of having us pay for something no one was going to eat. it was also really slow service, wrong drinks, awkwardness, no checking up, and this wasn't with a busy restaurant at all. i think i'd try this place again, because the food was interesting and there's more on the menu i want to try. but i'm just not too ecstatic about it is all.

We were a party of 6 before a show. The first person was able to finish his huge burrito before our kids were served. The food came out very slow and sporadically. We were warned the sweet mashed potatoes were spicy today. They were inedible, which is a shame because it is something easily fixed. Half of us were pleased with our food. This place could be good with the right management.

This place is a fantastic place to bring everyone you know, for there is something for everyone. Vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, low carbers...whatever. Because of their menu option making it yourself. You choose your base (biscuits, corn bread, tortilla, salad greens, ect) , meat (or no meat) accompaniments (peppers, corn salad, guac, salsa, beans, sweet potato, ect), plus many more options, and they bring you a big pile of awesomeness. I usually get a salad made this way and it is awesome. And cheap, 10 bucks! (certain things cost a little more) and i hear they just got their liqour license, huzzah! Can't wait to come in on the weekend and try their brunch. pro-tip..don't come here Sunday for dinner because they're not open. :) Also, great for large groups. We had called in a few days early to let them know we were bringing in about 20+ people and they were 100% prepared for us. Service was extremely fast and thorough and we got our food fast.

The place is funky, food is pretty good, portions are large. The chips and guacamole is excellent the chips are still hot. The plating is a little sloppy. They need to work on that. Definitely worth a try. Our waiter is excellent.

I think the décor is wonderfully eclectic and frankly, amazing. You'll find nothing like this anywhere in town. I love looking at the artwork when I come to this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food is not a draw. I've been here for lunch four times now and every visit has been bad. The first thing we were told on the latest visit was that there were no mixed greens for salads. This has happened twice. At lunch? How? The lunch menu and order process is confusing and portions are not similarly sized. I've ordered chicken based entrées that barely had an ounce of chicken. Buns are dried out, and meats are too. The food is just not good quality. Wait staff are slow and barely capable. Actually, they're not capable as I have to ask for things over and over. Finally, I've watched staff in the kitchen touch their hair on two occasions. I think the location is great and the ambiance is wonderful. Everything else needs to be scrapped and started fresh. The lunch crowd was very small this time, and I doubt it will be around much longer. But it all the fault of the owners. There is nothing interesting at all on the menu. It's more just low quality, goofy weird food. This place could be a gem but it would take a great chef with unique entrees and a top notch wait staff to make it a success. That's just not going to happen here. I won't miss it when it's gone.

They took a risk with the decor, sort of Marvin's Marvelous-esque, which I give them credit for, but Mexican and/or southwest it ain't. And I'm not a big defender of capital-A Architecture, but I felt like the crap on the walls was a sort of sin against art deco. Well, a minor sin. But still a sin. The amount of food is in keeping with the prices charged. You get "a lot of food," but you are required to pay for it. The service, offered to our group by a probable member of a Totally Sick Band, was slow and surly. Do not ask to split your group's check unless you would like to be lectured about how it's very difficult for them to do that (my handwritten bill: "SUBURBAN 10.60"). The food averaged out to good. I had the Suburban Burrito or something, and the warm corn salad. The latter was terrific, and my friend's creamed greens tasted good as well. The burrito, leaner but slightly longer than Chipotle's (I guess that's our reference now), was good. As it was topped with some sort of cream, I held it to my face as I imagine one would proudly display a scale model of an automobile. Considering we were dining across the street from the former GM headquarters, I found it quite fitting. Vroom.

The newest addition of tapas and taco selections and homemade salsas are extravagant and everything has been delicious. Drop in soon as every lunch hour they get a little busier. We haven't has to stand in line to get in yet but it's clear that is going to happen soon. I can't imagine what will happen when the liquor license goes through!

We tried the new brunch menu and it was fantastic. 1. Chicken & Waffles - This dish was filling and delicious. Tender, crispy chicken tenders on top of fried green tomatoes and hearty waffles with roasted pecans. Drench this bad boy with maple syrup and use the mango sour cream and every bite will melt in your mouth. 2. MUST GET - Side of Candied Mango Bacon. Throw in some chunks of this thick bacon in with your Chicken & Waffles and it makes the dish PERFECT! 3. Huevos Montulenos - A very large dish of corncakes layered with blackbeans and salsa. This dish was was edible, but not on par with the Chicken & Waffles. The only thing missing I think would have been a crispy texture of some sort on top of the corncakes. Otherwise, it was definitely a satisfactory dish. This uniquely decorated venue is worth a visit! I'll definitely be back to try their regular dinner menu!

just read Amy L.s review, very on point. Big news for Zenith, the liquor license is a go! Its going to be a hot spot! The whole concept is FRESH! Love it! Food is great, just interesting....from the eclectic décor to the quirky & yummy menu. Great service by friendly staff, as well!

Excellent service and great food. It usually pretty empty when I am there, but man is their food great. The portions are huge, you definitely get what you pay for. Also the interior is amazing, very nicely decorated with a bunch of tacky things.

This place was delighful, decently priced, and delicious. Our experience was fantastic from beginning to end. Oddball decor aside, I can't think of much to complain about with this place. Our waitress was helpful, patient, friendly, and knowledgeable about the fairly overloaded menu. They have a lot of traditional options, but the majority of what's on offer is very unique. I can see us making multiple trips just to try all the tacos they have, not to mention the amount of build your own choices as well. The menu impressed me very much. The food, however, was much better than I expect from such a bizarre looking restaurant. I ordered a burrito, and every single ingredient tasted fresh and delicious. The chipotle sour cream was to die for. My wife had the Pink Pig: a ham sandwhich with guava jam and a cheese sauce and red onion. Her sandwhich was absolutely phenominal. She loved every single bite. This place was great. Highly recommended if you want some unique food.

I have dined here several times and it is consistently wonderful! I love the midcentury decor and the food is delicious. We always opt for the 'your choice of' item on the menu and it is always interesting and satisfying. Love brunch time , only wish they offered more coffee options like lattes and cappucinos. One of my favorite places in the city, I highly recommend it.

Really in love with this place, from the kitschy decor to the amazing and massive southern/mexican fusion menu. Fun and super unique. Have been there for brunch and regular service and everything is delicious and the most flavorful ever, you've never really had anything like this, promise. The build your own options are cool when you're feeling adventurous. Ask for the house made hot sauce and check out the paint by number room!

Absolutly love this place. It's a Southern-Mexican fusion. The menu is creative and there is just so much to choose from it can be hard to decide. The atmosphere is fun and decorated with the 50's era. Waitstaff is attentive and friendly.

The food and atmosphere in this place are both fantastic- easily 5 stars. Only problem is that they frequently close early but there's no regular schedule for it. I once took a party of 15 there and we were rushed to get our orders in before everyone had even arrived because the kitchen was closing at 8. Another time I went there and was turned away at the hosts stand even though it was only 8 o'clock or so. Now I've learned to always call in advance but I really wish they just kept a more regular schedule!

Wow! I can't believe this place doesn't have a line out the door. Went for the first time last night and were very impressed. The decor is great, the food very affordable and creative and the service excellent. We had the Suburban Burrito and the Meatmen Melt along with two sides-chipotle sweet potatoes and mac cheese. All four items were amazing and we can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. This is the best new restaurant on the Detroit scene that we have seen in a long time.

I would give one star except the waiter really tried to feed me something and he was as frustrated as I that the kitchen was out of some basic necessities. I don't get it because it didn't seem as if the place was over booked so I have to blame it on poor kitchen management. I understand the owners are from Massachusetts, I too am from the east coast and granted each region of the country has their own set of manners but the basic tenants are the same. I think the owners would do themselves and their customers a great service to teach the hostess and the waitstaff some basic good mid-western manners. "Thank you" is customarily granted a "you're welcome" and if I bother to say "yes, please" when I am asked if I want to be seated then you should sure pick up on the fact that I am polite and respond accordingly. Eye contact is not a sign of weakness no more than lack of it is a sign of coolness. The staff (with the exception of my server) seems entitled and unaware of the customer/service provider paradigm. I would venture that this comes from the top because no owner aware of what is going on in their business would cop such a laissez-faire attitude if they didn't deem it acceptable to be rude and inattentive. The food was lackluster, salty, inconsistent and although not horrible enough to complain about to the owner or manager (as if it would be met with concern) it was not worthy of a second visit. Really, I do dine out enough to know that some restaurants just have a bad night and I will try again but every single aspect of The Zenith had something unpleasant or unappealing. Except the Fisher Building; that's fantastic.

A simple, but appealing, concept (Deep Southern meets Mexican cuisine) executed really well in a stunning location teeming with kitsch. It's like a less obnoxious TGI Fridays. Which is really refreshing if you think about it. Too many restaurants nowadays are doing the clean/simple/modern thing. The Zenith reminded me of why I loved going to TGIF and Chilis as a kid. They were places that were unrelenting in their pursuit of making sure you had FUN. Everyone at our table opted for a meal off of the savory brunch menu. Most items average $10, which is relatively affordable compared to other brunch options. However, NOTHING on the menu is over $11. The value was even more evident when our plates arrived. The food was served in HUGE portions, and was uniformly excellent. I had the Chilaquiles, and they were the best I've ever had. Perfect, fluffy scrambled eggs on a big bed of homemade tortilla chips, salsa verde, sausage, and topped with a brilliant Southern twist: pimento cheese sauce. It just ELEVATED it. The richness of the pimento cheese playing perfectly against the sweet salsa verde. I was nearly licking my plate. Can't recommend that dish enough. And to make sure you certainly do not leave hungry, they heap a pile of perfectly seasoned crispy red potato home fries next to every brunch plate. My friends had the breakfast tacos and burrito. Everyone was happy. The service was a little slow, but I've come to expect this during soft open periods like this one. Our server was super friendly and came by to check on us and refill our coffee frequently. Great food, great space... once they nail the service, I think the Jaspers have a keeper that the neighborhood will be returning to again and again. An awesome addition to the Fisher Building and New Center.

I really want to love The Zenith. I really do. I love the decor. Obviously, they have put a ton of work, time, sweat equity and money into creating a wacky-fabulous environment. You will never find a place to rest your eyes. There's too much to look at! Especially cool is the amazing Paint-by-Number Room. Just fantastic! I have been to The Zenith several times. I've been for brunch and lunch more than once. My issue with The Zenith is, well, the food. Every time that I have been, there have been issues with consistency. Is it that the menu is just too big? Some things seem fresh, and some things taste not so fresh. This is what I've experienced... Our Quesadillas with shrimp had rubbery, not fresh tasting shrimp. The tacos had one corn tortilla that fell apart and made the taco a knife and fork meal (with dry fish) covered in too much sauce. Our salsa seemed fresh and the chips were good. Our Server (very nice by the way, always very nice) made a point to warn me about the cinnamon in the coffee. It tasted fine, but it was cold. Today was not a particularly busy day there. I would hate to see what it would be like when there was a show and they were swamped. I know it's easy for me to say, I don't run a gigantic restaurant. But, I do own a business. I think that the little details really do matter. Perhaps if their menu was smaller, they could concentrate on working with fresher ingredients and food items? I don't have the answers, I just want them to make it. So, I will try to appeal to the "Powers That Be" at The Zenith: Please Zenith! I so want it to be great! I want to bring my friends from out of town to your place. It's so fun in there, so cool, but I'll never hear the end of it if the food is as inconsistent as what I have experienced. I'll be back. I just hope it gets better.

I have visited twice since and have been happy both times. Order off the menu and you will get what you want. Service has improved (I have had a different waiter than the original waiter both times I returned) The menu has so many options its hard to pick what to get. Breakfast was delicious! $3 for kids meals is a great deal!

The only way to leave a post was by giving 1 star. I wanted zero stars. Over priced drinks and food were the highlights of the visit. The service was the worst I have ever had from any establishment in my entire life. Retarded armless turtles could have done better than they did. A friend of mine waited 45 minutes for a drink and the response for our waitress was, "they are being made one at a time and that's the way it is". Not apologetic enough. Half of the side items were not available and they claimed it was busy with servers empty tables. We went to the bar for our drinks since it took too long from our server. That took us another 20 minutes as the one server had to look up the ingredients for each drink off a sheet of paper. Just terrible all around. I got a $10 chicken burrito that tasted like an average at best chicken burrito you can get from chipotle.

The Zenith is delicious! The food is very unique and very well made. We went for brunch and there was silence at the table as we all tried to decide what to get - there were so many good options. Everyone got something different and we each tried each other's and everything was yummy. I recommend this as one of the best places to go for brunch in detroit! Also - the decor is so cool.

Such creepy décor. Would not recommend to people with any sort of doll or manikin phobias, since there are such figures throughout the restaurant, including a baby that moves in the front window. With respect to the food, they give large portions. I got the Black Bottom Beans and Rice, which is one of the only vegetarian entrees if you don't add meat to it. I actually requested to add carnitas to it, but the waiter might not have caught that part because it just came out plain. I was not going to make a fuss about it though. It was still a satisfying and probably healthier meal. I also chose a side of grilled cornbread, which was cute because it was an entire mini loaf. I'm still unsure about the Mexican and Southern fusion, but there are a lot of options to explore on the menu.

Just tried this place for the first time, for Sunday brunch. The service was fantastic, as was the food. Given the unique entree selection, it was helpful that the server offered recommendations and descriptions. I had the biscuits/sausage with homemade gravy. Some of the best I've ever had. I'm honestly surprised this place wasn't a little more packed. The overall ambience, service, and food exceeded my expectations and I had a great experience. Next time I will be visiting the vibey decked out tiki bar in the back! I highly recommend Zenith

Zenith has not only ruined me for other restaurants, but for the whole dining experience! This is amazing. Zenith does for dining what the Sex Pistols did for rock n roll! The service is excellent, and the menu will blow your mind, so you're better off just choosing at random- I've loved everything I've had, but never would have thought so. Oh, and I never give 5 stars, which should tell you something!

I really don't understand this place. First of all, I don't understand why the Fisher Building doesn't have a fine dining restaurant. I would think it would be very successful but I digress. What is the Zenith supposed to be exactly? I was puzzled upon entering the restaurant. The décor is odd; I wouldn't call it eclectic just weird or even messy. Their appears to be lots of staff running all over, appearing disorganized. I guess the menu just isn't for me. I had a salad and that was fine but just not a place I would return to for the food. We had theater tickets; we arrived at 6pm and made it to our seats at 8pm just in time. Two hours for a salad and a drink? I had to physically walk around the restaurant to find the waiter to cash out. I really like the convenience of parking once to eat and attend the theater but next time I think I will park twice.

I just love this place! I have taken clients, family, friends & dined alone here. The food is always really good. Love the coffee, with the slightest hint of cinnamon. The service is top notch. The décor is amazing... Keep on keepin' on! The Zenith has all the components of a place I want to patronize!! :)

Came here for breakfast near opening time last Saturday. We waited a while at the host stand as no one was there, but greated promptly once seated. Right off the bat I noted our waiters fingernails were filthy, which doesn't sit well with me. What are the cooks hands like...? The service was fine overall, I just think good hygeine is something that should be a given in food service. I ordered kick out the hams, really tasty and tons of food. I had the ham added back in and it was nice, big slices of some pretty legit ham. My husband got the breakfast burrito which was so-so, and he didn't get the salsa he ordered with it. Food was decent over all, but I don't think this is place we're dying to go back to.

This place amazed me, its unlike anywhere you have ever been or seen. You could spend hours just looking around the place at all of the crazy decor that I cant even begin to describe. We went with a group of 10 for brunch and our server was incredibly nice! Everyone loved their food and left wanting to go back!

I now have been sitting here for over ONE hour. Ordered 1 drink and the waiter has not been back. This is my second visit and i still haven't tasted their food! IT'S NOT EVEN CROWDED!!!! I eat out 3 times a week and I have never seen such a poorly run establishment in my life anywhere in the world. Please DO NOT BOTHER WITHOUT THIS PLACE.

Finally able to check this place out and glad I did! The restaurant is so unique from decor down to the menu and how you order. My husband and I both got the make your own, and were not disappointed, both were delicious and healthy portions. The only downer was that my husband ordered the shrimp and they were out :/ After lunch, we took the time to walk around the restaurant, and I'd suggest diners do the same. There is so much to see and it is so eclectic, it's just nothing like anything in greater Detroit. My only concern for this restaurant is the location. It's just not a spot that most think of going for lunch or dinner, unless you work in New Center or are there for a show. Hopefully, that's not an issue for them because this place deserves to stay.

Zenith is a great addition to casual dining in Detroit, and especially welcome in the New Center area, which does not have many options overall. The food is hearty, interesting, and delicious. Think southern food meets southwest. The atmosphere is crazy, in a good way. I understand it might turn people off, but most people I bring find it fun to explore. Come with an open mind and appreciate that not all places should be cookie-cutter chains. I have been on several occasions, mostly for breakfast/brunch and sampled a lot from the menu. You can't go wrong as far as I can tell, though I recommend the Huevos Montulenos and Kick Out the Hams. Portions are large, food is fresh, and the prices are reasonable for what you get. My one gripe about Zenith is the service, as it consistently leaves something to be desired. Granted, I often come in larger groups (because it's a big place with easy parking that won't have a wait) but also the restaurant isn't busy enough to where it should be a problem. They have been open for a few months so I expect those issues to be cleared up. The servers are friendly and seem to be trying, but for some reason it's always slow and a little inattentive. Hopefully they will work on this or maybe I am alone in this sentiment. Anyway, I recommend you check it out and see if it's your cup of tea or not.

I really like this place. Some interesting taste sensations here. I had the Smoky Robinson dish. Grilled cornbread topped with spicy refried beans, smoked ham and poblano peppers. The sauce that topped it was tasty as well. You will need to park in a paid parking lot at Fisher Theater or at various lots across the street a bit. I will be back.

This place is amazing!! Would highly recommend. You can go back a bunch of times because they have such a huge selection on the menu. Really delicious drinks, friendly staff, weirdo decorations that make the whole thing fun. You can barely tell it's there but it's a really really great place to eat! The cashew appetizer is delicious, and the chorizo dip is also SO good.

Was at the Zenith, "myself" today....the extremely opinionated above reviewer was totaly disrespectful and inaccurate in her disingenuous review.... The reaturant wasn't out of 7 items she stated, only two items weren't done yet, cornbread being one, the morining of Wendesday 10-1-14....she boldly lied and stated 7. Why? She judged what the hostess was wearing this day, and went on to say she notices what she wears other days....why should she care? I could judge what the reviewer was wearing, but obviously it wasn't memorable. ..for it being a coworkers birthday what a miserable disposition the group had from the beginning, they didnt come in at all to celebrate. They didn't even act like they liked each other much. Not one beverage was ordered....the reviewer asked for a lemon, twice only....what a way to blow it out of proportion..... They should have ate and celebrated at their desk, call jimmy johns next time....

Some of our food was great, some was bad. Unfortunately our waiter was horrible. Took forever to get drinks, he messed the order up. When he brought me the wrong sandwich his response when I asked for the right sandwich was "it's not going to be pretty." We had a bean dish that tasted off and he chose to argue that it was fine and had served several already that day.

Fabulous!!!!!!! The meal, the service, the decor....it just doesn't get any better than this! The food was superb, yummy and inspired Mexican! Our server, Niada was professional, cordial and REAL! Very lovely to talk to. The highlight to our meal was the decor. It was more like dining in a museum. Fantastic and highly recommended!

This is not authentic mexican food, more like an americanized style version. If that doesn't bother you and you enjoy building your own meal with fun and different concoctions this is a place for you. The decoration definitely is unique in a minor disturbing way but the food is worth it. If you build your own its $10.60 which seems like a lot and it may be for some people but with the portion size you can get two meals out of it. You get a side with the build your own. The mac and cheese is better than your mom's homemade cooking, so I'd recommend that if you are a mac and cheese lover. Overall I enjoyed the place and the staff was very friendly and able to answer questions.

We came for brunch on Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves. We both ended up getting the cornbread benedict (one with homemade sausage, and one with chorizo) and really liked our dishes. They came with a huge portion of potatoes. The standout of the meal was the house-made green hot sauce. Spicy and with great flavor. I also ordered a piece of toast and some of their pimento cheese spread... oh man. It was incredible. Warm and delicious. Something I loved about the food was that it wasn't overly salty, which is an easy fault of savory brunch items. Our server, Norris, was friendly and attentive. There were only a few other couples when we were there (around 10:30) but everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. Do yourself a favor and get to this place for brunch. Best dining experience I've had in a while at a place of this price point.

Funky decor and delicious food! The service was great too. It was so much food for $10! I was a little skeptical of the mixture of southern and Mexican food but my burrito and a side of Mac and cheese hit the spot. I'll definitely go back!

Heikki's Suburban Burrito was loaded with flavor and the mango sour cream on top was just right, not too sweet. The Meatmen Melt was good too - not as spicy as I expected but still very tasty. I liked the decor - very colorful and mismatched as intended - I thought it made the place more quirky rather than creepy. I will definitely be back.. I've got to try the Lightning Menu and the grilled cornbread!

This is a fantastic place! First of all, I think the food is better than most of your typical brunch places in the suburbs. Unique and tasty, both! Also, the restaurant is huge! It is like a museum of the owners' collection of cool stuff, and the large windows overlooking the business district adds to it's urban feel. Lastly, the restaurant is located in the historic Fisher Building. The Fisher Building is one of the loveliest skyscrapers ever built in the U.S. It's a must to take a walk around on inside and appreciate the architectural detailing.

Really let down by this dining experience. I had high hopes based on the fantastically eccentric interior of the place. As for the food I ordered the MC5 burrito which has mac & cheese and bacon in it. Mind you this is after I tried to order two other items that day and for whatever reason they didn't have the ingredients to make it (BBQ pork, I was then told I could do BBQ turkey but they were out of that too) which seems to be on half their food items. The place was empty so I don't see how they could run out, so that was weird. So ya the Burrito I did get was pretty terrible. The mac & cheese inside of it seemed to be the veggie and Italian based pasta salad you can buy at the grocery store that they had mixed with a cheese sauce. Needless to say it was super weird and gross. The other troubling thing is the only beer they had (or at least the only ones that were told to me) were pbr, bud, and frankenmuths IPA. I was also told that they did not have a drink menu but could make basic stuff like long islands. It's a sad waste of a liquor license in my opinion, the place has a tiki bar and lounge. They could be killing it with all types of awesome tropical cocktails. I mean isn't that the point of a tiki bar? So anyways I'm going to let this place work out it's kinks for a good long while and then try it again. Hopefully it will be better. Customer service was great btw, and their brunch is supposed to be good, I can't say all bad things... So let down though...

I have been here for both brunch and weekday service and it's pretty good, I'll review both for you guys. If you're a vegetarian there are lots of options for you from savory to sweet. The brunch menu is pretty good with lots of items to choose from, and worth the price where items range from 8-12$. They will seat you immediately but you will have to wait because it's crazy busy in there. Definitely go if you want to relax for a while, we waited probably 30 minutes and our food didn't all come out together, so some of us waited less. I got the pistachio crepes which were huge(2) and they were very sweet for my palate. My friend got the passionfruit french toast which is basically a heavy pound cake fried, covered with syrup. My husband ordered one of the savory items with a fried green tomato on a biscuit covered in stuff, and as far as I could see that's how I would describe most of the savory brunch items, lots of "smothered" dishes. It was very heavy and comforting food. If I were to come back for brunch I would probably split a plate with a friend rather than ordering my own. Also, right at this moment they do not have a liquor license, so no mimosas or bloody maries. There is a sign in the front that says they're working on getting one. The regular weekday service menu is large as well, but you can grab an 'express menu' and build your dish which may be easier for you and the waitress if you find lots of options overwhelming. I used the 'express menu' where you get a list of 'vessels' (choose from burrito, or open faced on a biscuit), 'protein' (I chose the zesty tofu which was decent, but a little dry), and then all sorts of other options to mix in like beans, rice, avocado, cheese, corn. One cool thing is with your dish you get to pick a side dish, and I picked the warm corn salad, but there's also mac n cheese, and some other stuff. The corn salad was really good, and had jalepano in it so it had a little kick. One weird thing about this place was that they didn't have tortilla chips, and the waitress offered that we get the seasoned fries instead. If I had known how heavy this meal was going to be I would have said no, but the fries were pretty good regardless. One thing that I would like to stress is that the food is very heavy and wholesome. It's definitely comfort food, and if you're up for something light, steer clear. A very generous compliment that both my husband and I agreed on was that we both thought that this would be the perfect place to bring our parents for when they're in town visiting, and I think it would be a great meal before a show.

This is my favorite new restaurant in Detroit by far!! I come here at least once a week (and I get take out a lot as well) and the waiters and waitresses know our faces now and always treat us so nicely! I have yet to have a negative experience here - and I've been here A LOT! Even one of the last times we went - on a "theater afternoon" - we were served promptly and with delicious food! Much love Zenith!

The Fisher Theater had a special presenation of Annie with a preshow for girl scout troops meaning for a Wednesday night it was going to be very busy. My daughters and I went with their troop. The troop leader called in advance to make arrangements about q week and a half before, she said the restaurant didn't know about the event, but when it was explained to them there would be large groups they would take a reservation (she made it for 40). (There were also many other troops from SE MI there that night.) They gave us a streamlined menu - a girl scout kids menu with 5 items and the "lightning fast" build your own menu for the adults. We arrived at 6pm. There was nobody at the door directing traffic when I arrived. We sat ourselves with our large group reservation. We ordered the items from the streamlined menus, no special requests or items from the larger menu. We saw our waiter once for drinks. We received our food 1 hour and 20 minutes later at 725pm - the show starts at 730. My daughters mac & chz was a bowl of mush, didn't taste like cheese, was basically inedible. she didn't get her fries. There was no time or opportunity to tell anyone. Mine was not good either. My other daughters grilled cheese was on bread that crumbled apart with cheese that looked like cheese sauce in the middle. The ketchups at every table in our group was empty. Even if the food wasn't awful, what can you eat in 3 minutes tops? The best part? they still expected me to pay $30 dollars for three meals we couldn't eat. When I asked the waiter, he said "I don't know, whatever arrangements you made with them in advance." and just stood there. He wasn't going to get a manager or offer any help at all. There is really no chance to do anything because it would have meant my daughters missing the show - the reason we were there in the first place. Bottom line - Do not risk going here before a show, you won't make it even if you have a reservations. Don't bother going here if you don't have a show to go to, the food is not worth going here anyway. **EDITED to point out - the rebuttal to the other bad review from yesterday by Norris S? Please note - that account was just opened and this is the only review - and in a Google review, Norris is mentioned as the persons waiter.

Zenith is my new favorite spot in the greater downtown area....I haven't really come across a new place that has struck my fancy so much as here, in a long time. I'll be honest - I heard some junk about Zenith. I won't go into detail, but just not good things. Both from press, and from individuals that I know. So when I went here, it was really because I wanted to witness the sh*tshow I'd heard about, in person. I left completely surprised. First off - brunch. The brunch menu, which has some traditional items with a Mexican spin, is one of the most unique brunch menus in the area. My favorite is the poutine deluxe - fries with scrambled eggs, an addictive mexican cheese sauce blend, and I took the server's advice to add chorizo for an extra kick. OMG. It will change your life. I'm picky about my fries but the fries here are perfection. And the portion is so big I always leave stuffed with half to take home. One of these days I'll try the m&m pancakes (ordered by my brunch companion, and looked awesome) or the Cornbread Benedict. Only been here once in the evening, when I had the Smitten with Chicken sandwich (most of the menu items have funny, corny, play-on-words, and/or Motown themed names. Some people like that, some don't. Eh - as long as it's good, I don't really care what you call it). It was awesome! Moist and tender chicken breast with avocado, smothered in what seemed to be a melted blend of cheese and salsa, all on a fresh ciabatta roll. I ate it with a knife and fork because it was just too much to handle with my hands. All sandwiches and entrees come with your choice of side, I went with the mac and cheese. Now unfortunately this is where things took a turn - unfortunately because I LOVE mac and cheese, and also because it's the only mar on my Zenith experiences so far. It wasn't so much mac and cheese as shell noodles with cheese sauce - a distinct difference! This would still be ok, only it just fell flat altogether. Especially compared to the bold flavors of all the other food I've had here, the mac and cheese was just kind of bland and forgettable. Booo. Guess I won't be ordering that anymore. But there are still so many items on this menu I can't wait to try, that I have more than enough choices to make up for it. :) I prefer sitting at the bar. The drinks are reasonably priced and poured decently strong. I believe they have a menu of specialty cocktails but I haven't tried those out yet. To speak on the decor, as other reviewers have....they are certainly serving "grandma's creepy attic" realness. To some, it's fun and whimsical. To others, horrifying and tacky. I don't think I've made my mind up on it either way yet. But all I can say is that in their food as well as their decor, Zenith is a welcome breath of something very different on the dining scene, and I'm grateful they're here!

Utterly Superb! I feel like this a well kept secret that I'm letting out of the bag. I predict a run on this spot and soon. Cocktails, breakfast, breakfast cocktails, brunch ,tapas, dinner....I dug this place from the start. It has everything a growing boy needs to start his Sunday Funday off right! Add in the fun atmosphere and a pretty eclectic and unique menu that's cohesive and enticing and this place is a winner, sans the lack of downtown curbside parking at busy hours. Service is great, the food was fantastic and the reasons to return keep me wanting to do just that. Definitely worth a looksee. And spoiler alert, they're putting in a karaoke club/night club/improv club in the basement so stay tuned for more from Zenith and the opening of the Rectory Club.

Amazing food. Just never hot...what's the bible verse? Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. That comes to mind. Warm up your food, and your coffee. Ice cubes are cold, that's nice. But Detroit weather system is not an appropriate heating device. Use an oven, or new bulbs on the heat lamps...they did a good job at drying out my beans. But they were still lukewarm. The food is incredible, just never hot. I've been going here off and on for 6 months now. It seems like an easy thing but never solved.

Cool and Swanky.. Zenith exceeded my expectations! The food was just as unique as the atmosphere. I went during my lunch break with co-workers and we all ordered something different. The poutine was excellent and the fries were crispy too. Tacos were of slider portion so I would recommend ordering 3( if you are super hungry). The veggie quesadilla was so good I wish it was bigger!

Found this creative "Mexican-soul food" gem after visiting The Motown Museum down the street. An impressive Pee Wee's Playhouse kind of space in the amazing deco landmark Fisher Bldg, so absolutely warrants a visit. Unique menu? Check. Friendly service? Check. Whimsical decor? Double check. Artful food presentation? Not so much, but sloppy is part of the charm. (Fact: There's no nice way to serve poutine.) My pulled pork burrito plate was meh, mac n cheese was blech, but the breakfast items are stellar and cocktails are a must.

Still dreaming of the huevos montulenos, and plotting my a return on a future visit back to Michigan. The service here was fantastic - knowledgable, helpful and so friendly. Happy to see a restaurant thriving in this area - and on a Sunday!

Tried this place for the first time today for lunch with some co-workers. We arrived around 12:15 and there was no wait. Service was quick, receiving our orders within 10 minutes and back to the office within an hour, and the waiter was very knowledgeable and able to answer all of our newbie questions. The menu is very large and daunting so it was nice to have someone kind of guide us through it. I had the Pink Pig open-faced sandwich with the Gazpacho as my side dish. For the price, it was a great value! The food was very tasty with the right amount of spice on the sandwich and everything tasted very fresh. The Gazpacho was especially refreshing on a muggy day. I would like to go back for brunch as the breakfast options sounded very good; they only serve it on Sundays though from what we could tell which was a bummer because our whole group loves a good breakfast option.

I was giddy to behold the exciting, mid century grandeur that is the Zenith. Seriously, the decor is incredible. I could eat saltines there, and be happy. Food was actually pretty good. I work in the restaurant industry. It's better than average. Not fantastic, but better than average. Our waiter, while charming and accommodating, could benefit from some training. Little things make a difference. Filling water and coffee without being asked, bringing appropriate accoutrements before the meal, suggesting things. The live music was fabulous. We will be back, but REALLY hoping the powers that be work on staff training a little.

As a recent former Tenate of the Fisher Bld, there was tons of hype and excitement about Zenith coming from Boston to Detroit. I left just before they moved in but was able to visit after the show Kinky Boots at the Fisher Theatre. We were amazed to get seated so quickly after the show ended on a Sunday maitinee. Service was solid for a Sunday afternoon as we took in the eclectic style of Zenith. The menu seems like a foodie paradise using combinations of ingredients to peak the taste buds. From our group of 4, 1st ordered chicken and pork tacos, her review that are bland . 2nd was a burrito and he enjoyed said it had good flavor and you could tell.as he cleaned his plate. .3rd was mac n cheese, her plate looked.like a 3 year old plate that managed to push everything around and ate nothing. Lastly I had the Cosmic Slop, presentation was good, portion was spot on, but from the description I expected a.bit more flavor and excitement. 4 pepper sauce sounded so good, maybe we caught them on a slightly off day. Will try again, hoping for better results to live up to all the hype and excitement that was built up for them coming to town. Todd

One of the coolest bar atmospheres anywhere in downtown Detroit. Vintage tiki midcentury decor throughout. Great for groups anytime, but especially nice before a show at the Fisher Theater. Haven't eaten only drinks. A great place to take a date downtown. My one complaint is the wait staff. The owner's need to hire hip mixologist who have a knack for conversation. Sorry but the unenthused, non-convensational bartender's and staff just ain't cutting it. Time to liven up the place with some eye candy and energy.

If this place ever closes, it will be because of the grotesque decor. There was nothing else wrong with it--the food was delicious, and the service quite adequate. But the decor is like something out of American Horror Story--creepy old dolls, a mannequin sitting BEHIND your booth like a stalker, and--tada!--a painting of hands with stigmata on the wall. Just want I want to look at as I'm eating my catfish. But yes, the food was quite good. You pick a lunch plate by choosing a bread, a meat, a veggie, a starch, etc. The cuisine is a mix of Southern and Mexican. I had grilled cornbread with crispy fried catfish and southern greens--all excellent. The fries were a la carte, but they too were delicious--crispy and perfectly seasoned. Will probably go back there for lunch, horrendous displays and all.

The Fisher building is beautiful and has a lot of potential. However I feel that it deserves a restaurant better than Zenith. This restaurant offers passable Mexican food and a decor that seems like a strange mix between a horror film and Chuck E Cheese. Quizzical appearing mannequins and odd art from the 1970s leave the impression that you are enjoying a quesadilla at an upscale rummage sale. That said, the service is good and it is nice to have a restaurant in the new center area. I anticipate that if this area starts to rebound there will be better options available (Selden Standard is just a few blocks away).

I love this place. I take all my out of town guests here. Such a great menu. I describe it as Southern Comfort Mexican food. Deeelish!

The decor could be described anywhere between whimsical and scary (especially if you, like my brother, are afraid of clowns...or floating heads...). Remnants from the circus and consignments shops mix as found art. This strange mixture combines with a menu that includes Mexican and Southern comfort food. I was in the New Center area and ended up at the Zenith for lunch. They have a special lunch menu from which you can build your own meal. As the items are made of both Mexican and southern comfort food it allows for some potentially strange combinations. You choose a base of a bread or salad (tortilla, biscuits), then add a protein (marinated chicken, lime shrimp, fried chicken), toppings, etc from each section of the list. It also includes a side from items such as mashed potatoes, fries, beans, rice, mac and cheese...I focused on Mexican and ordered a stuffed quesadilla with chicken, cheese and black beans. I also tried their mango salsa, but was not a fan. Our table shared chips and regular salsa, which I preferred (I liked that they warmed their chips). Both the quesadilla and the burrito (that another person ordered) are huge. The quesadilla was awesome, grilled and cheesy, stuffed with flavor. I could only eat half, it could easily be shared. The side was not necessary. I tried the mac and cheese and thought it was good, but unlike the quesadilla, not amazing. The only issue is the parking in the New Center area. I was there for a training so my $6 for parking was covered, but it would be annoying to pay that to park only for lunch.

Love this place! But FUCK THAT CREEPY MANNEQUIN IN THE BASEMENT! Seriously what's up with that shit? I came out of the bathroom and nearly pissed my self all over again. With that being said I went here for bunch yesterday and absolutely loved it. It's a Mexican mash up kinda thing and the menu is quite original. I don't remember any of the names but I had scallion mashed potatoes covered in chorizo with 2 fried eggs on top and maybe a chipotle sauce (I'm Thai so my tolerance for heat is quite high... Coulda been spicy... Coulda been not) and it came with a side of black beans I just poured over everything. my friend who is vegan for the most part had a dish that was 2 corn cakes smothered in corn and a hollandaise sauce with a side of roasted potatoes. Both were delicious. I will be back soon! I'll just make sure I go on an empty bladder

Place has great charm. The food was pretty good, but nothing too special. They do have Mango Bacon which is a MUST!!! Other than that the food was pretty alright. Don't get the passion fruit French toast. It was not good at all. The poutine was pretty damn good tho. I have to say it is a place you should try, but don't expect too much of a surprise.

I'm dishing out 4-star reviews in much of the same way my dad dishes out hurtful comments to his loved ones. "Kimmy, you look haggard. You need to rest," he says to my 40-year-old sister, as her eyes well with tears, her spirit broken, and not even a delicious taco from Zenith can quell the pain. "Would you like to try the Francis Ford Porkola?" I ask, trying to lighten the mood. "It's a take on the famous director. You know, the guy who directed 'The Godfather' and 'The Outsiders'? Except in a sweet pork taco form." (Empty stare) Anyhow, the food is amazing, but a bit on the heavy side. "If you eat the fried chicken and macaroni and cheese you'll be big and fat like Jeffrey," says my dad in an overt attempt to body shame my cousin, a slender young man by most accounts. I highly recommend you venture out to New Center to experience a wonderful blend of Southwest-inspired comfort food. Just don't invite my dad. Unless you want to get insulted.

Our first time here and we loved it. We had a hard time picking off the menu because everything sounded good, ended up going with the waitress's recommendation of MexiMash and Huevos Motulenos and they were fantastic. I preferred the MexiMash a bit because it had a spiciness to it. Also, pitchers of mimosa!

Great atmosphere, great food, and decent prices. My buddy and I found this place before the Lions game on 11/9/14 and we loved it. We will be back often as the menu is loaded with great sounding selections.

The food was tasty. Half of what our party got was pretty spicy though, so be prepared for a little kick on certain things (The Rouge and the Mashed Sweet Potatoes). The mac and cheese is the only kind I've ever had that tasted quite like it, delicious. The service was a little lax. Not at all because of our waiter, but because there weren't enough waiters for the restaurant. It seemed like there was only one or two people waiting all the tables. The decor's a little bizarre, perhaps creepy's a better word, or even outlandish. But whatever, it's unique. The location's great, I mean inside the Fischer is perfect. A few cool stores inside the same building you can also check out. However, the uncomfortable gaseousness that followed that evening and the next day may not be entirely worth it.

Hit up Zenith for brunch and was met with the similar surly attitude mentioned in a previous post. Things were a little more friendly after the crowd left, and we got a half-apology for the service. Food is ok, loved the mango bacon, but wasn't a fan of the drunken french toast - and I pretty much love everything. The food just doesn't look pretty, either. Bloody Mary was meh, pepper was about the only flavor I could taste. No tiki drinks available until a bartender showed up around noon, and the Mai Tai tasted like coconut - interesting. However, the combined buzz from both drinks was quite strong. Each cocktail (pint sized) ran $10, food items about $9-10 range. Would probably go again, but likely not for brunch.

I'll give 'em 5 stars once they get the "how to handle a big rush" thing down. Really long wait for food at the bar today. Gonna be late for our show... Come during "slow times" and you'll be really glad you came.

This place makes me proud of my decision to move to Detroit. From entering the Fisher building and meandering through the halls, until the moment you enter Zenith, everything just gets better. Our server was Detroit native and just an easy going chick. I asked for a mimosa and she suggested a pitcher for $18... steal! My boyfriend ordered the chicken n waffles, succulent chicken and fluffy waffles, amazing sides of 4 pepper gravy and mango sour cream. Can't stop, won't stop. Update: pitcher of mimosa is finished (why did they let post reviews in yelp through your phone) Kick out the Hams was my glorious order. Fried green tomatoes... yes please! Oh and delicious fried eggs. Because I was in between the eggs benny she gave me a side if hollandaise, winner. Get the cornbread as a base, just do it. LET'S NOT FORGET CANDIED MANGO BACON!!! K bye

This restaurant is a must see! It is decorated very retro with old advertisement art, clowns, tiki and dolls. I went on an early afternoon and surprisingly it was kind of quiet for such a large place. This is one place I think would be fun super busy and I am sure it does get that business. We ordered the drowned torta, the mac n cheese burrito, and the pork and coleslaw burrito. Everything has great names but I have forgotten them, sorry! I would order everything we had again but not before trying everything else.

First of all, NEW CENTER RESTAURANT! SO MUCH LOVE. The food here tastes like home-cooking. The food is unpretentious, fun, and comforting, and while some aspects of the dishes could have used a bit of that certain polish that makes dining out worthwhile, I will definitely be back to try more of their unique fusion of cuisines. We went in for brunch, and I ordered the CORNBREAD BENEDICT, subbing the meat with tofu. The jalapeno hollandaise could have been zestier, but it wasn't bad. The tofu that they so graciously subbed for me was scrambled like egg whites (not what I expected) but the flavors were pleasant. Full disclosure, I'm not huge on cornbread, but as far as cornbread goes, it was moist and flavorful. The roasted potatoes that came with the dish were the only part of the breakfast that I could really have done without: bland and uninteresting. A bit of olive oil, garlic and salt would have gone a long way. 3.5 stars overall. The BREAKFAST BURRITO, though, was apparently enough to redeem any qualms I had re: my dish. It was ordered with the CANDIED MANGO BACON, so I didn't try any, but I was assured that the entire entree deserved 5 enthusiastic stars. Our server was great: attentive and knowledgeable with suggestions. The space is huge, and I can't wait to see this establishment grow into itself.

Another excellent stop on my Detroit tour. Huge portions, rad decor (without bein' tacky, too-- it could have EASILY crossed the line, but does not), and the service was good. I seriously sat and listened to one of the servers just patiently and pleasantly answer questions and chat up this three-top of older heads that sort of wandered in, and you could tell this was the one time they went out in month and had, literally, dozens and dozens of questions. They even came to our table and solicited us for recs and things. Anyway, the guy was a champ about it. And the collard greens... I'm speechless. My grandma hails from Huntsville, Alabama and I think I know at least a thing or two about some good collard greens. These were top notch.

Took my 5 year old daughter here for brunch one beautiful Saturday afternoon and she loved the m&m pancakes. The services was quick, good, and laid back! The food was super different but very good, and any place that has mimosas gets a star in my book

A wonderful find in the new center area and a great addition to the Fisher Building. The atmosphere is casual, but with some style. It feels as though the decor was picked up from a garage or rummage sale. But it all works. The menu is clearly Mexican, but with a twist in how things are fused together. It was hard to pick one thing. They had something for everyone from the traditional Mexican fare to the vegetarian. If you are a foodie and meat lover you will be happy with your options. At the time of this review they were still waiting on a liquor license. So be aware prior. It's too bad as a Bloody Mary would have topped off my meal!

The brunch is seriously great. Beautiful rare soul music creates a comfortable ambiance. Unfortunately, the service is mindbendingly slow, the restaurant was under half full and still took an hour. Best breakfast burrito in the city, just need to wait an hour to get it. If this place can figure out the customer service, sky is the limit. zingtrain.com/3-steps-to…

20 minutes is a pretty long wait for water. But our server was a bit busy yelling at an angry customer..."EXCUSE ME? BUH BYE...BUH BYE...BUH BYE!" I think it was a SNL reference. Anyways. Food is decent. Just don't come when it's busy, maybe?

Stopped in here after wandering through the Detroit Institute of Art. Got seated right away, the service was very fast and they brought us fresh tasting tortilla chips and a bowl of spicy guacamole while we looked over the extensive menu. PROS - cinnamon spiced coffee! - fast service, approachable and friendly staff - funky decor, good music, great vibe - the price is right at $12-15/person for a satisfying portion - the food was AMAZING. They accommodated our (minor) substitutions/exceptions without hassle. - really, really, AMAZING FOOD. CONS - food all arrived at the table different times instead of all together - service was fast, but got the impression they wanted to flip the table. (This could be that they are used to theatre goers and wanted to get us out on time?) Would I go back? - Certainly. In fact we might go there for brunch tomorrow. Would I recommend it to a friend? - 100% yes. If you are in Detroit, please go check it out.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
