Went here for the first time after a show at the Fillmore. It is nothing fancy and the service was maybe slightly above average, but the food was excellent. Their buffalo wings were the best I've had in a while. I had a blue burger for main course and it hit the spot, very quality meat, toppings, bread etc. My friend had a salad which looked good too. The beer selection was pretty good. I'd definitely recommend this place... it wasn't packed, but then again it was Tuesday night. We were watching basketball and there were enough other fans cheering along.

This place is always my pre-party before I see a show at the Fillmore. Final Absolution on tap ($6) totally worth it. The staff is hit or miss, but I'm usually being too chatty with my friends to even notice. The Queso Blanco was good but the chips were stale..total bummer and the Baked Potato fries were even better. I think I have been here at least 4 times this year and had fun each and every time, yes..I will be back :)

Great atmosphere. Tin ceiling. Library nook for a comfortable quieter environment. Behind Fox location. Music selection was great. The only thing is that we were there for a pub crawl and they didn't impress. They produced a pretty lame food item and only a single beer selection. Does this represent who they are? The location and atmosphere of the place says no, but one is left wondering.

When compared to all possible restaurants in Detroit I wouldn't give it four stars, but when it is compared to all other sports bars I feel it is better than average. I liked their beer selection and prices (on both food and drinks). We didn't try their pizza but from what I saw at neighboring tables it looks delicious. We each had burgers and fries and thought they were quite good. Bottom line, this is a great option for a place to eat and/or drink before the game or show.

At first glance, Town Pump seems fairly traditional and formal: ivy covering the exterior, perfect tin ceiling, vintage furnishings throughout, even a little library. Combine that with multiple TVs, loud customers, mostly casual food, and rock music slightly too loud to be background -- it seems a little quirky. Environment aside, I had a fair experience. I got the lunch special - pint of Molson, 1/2 pound burger, and fries for less than $8. My only real grievance is just how understaffed they were. One waitress/bartender/busser serving a lunch crowd of at least 30 people plus what seemed to be one cook/dishwasher. The waitress did a marvelous job considering the circumstances, but still she was overworked and visibly stressed. A majority of the customers seem to be regulars as I was the only one not calling the waitress by name.

Rachel K hit all my complaints squarely on the nose. We'd checked out the website prior to going, found some really interesting happy hour items we wanted to try... only to get there, also on a home Tiger's game day, and find a limited 'game day' menu. None of the items we were interested in trying were on the menu, and the kitchen wasn't making anything else. Not to mention the drink specials I was interested in were also AWOL. Now, yes, I know this place is packed prior to the game, and they could never keep up with all of wanting different things... which is why I'm not rating them on this (just ranting). Food was average. I was expecting more based on comments from family and friends. We had spinach dip, a burger, and a BLT (until our harried waitress came back after 15 minutes to tell us they were out of bacon, so we switched to a grilled cheese). Sweet potato fries = ick. Service was horrible. While this could be partly due to the pre-game crowd wouldn't you know this in advance and have more help? The only time our waitress was nice to us was when she gave us our bill. The crowd was over the top, with drunk-acting frat boys heckling everyone who walked in and out of the place.

Drinks 4 stars Food 3 stars Staff / people 5 stars Enough can't be said about this local treasure. An incredibly friendly environment, consistently great staff, in a great spot for downtown pre and post event shenanigans. Only draw back is the food. Yes they have a pretty solid pizza. Beyond that, it's all comfort food- that they are comfortable with. With so many great food spots downtown it's tough to give the food here anything above good pub grub.

Lunch is a great time to go, The service is much better during the day. Quick in and out. At night it can get a little too busy for the staff and wait for the food is longer than it should be for the quality. The prices are good, but on a busy event night, it's not my favorite place to grab a bite. It is fun for drinks on a busy night. But don't go in hungry, expecting fast service. It's an average bar, with average food. Nothing to rave about. The same owner has a more upscale place across the street with amazing food and wonderful cocktails, if you are in the more for something more than standard bar food.

Town Pump is one of those places that I WANT it to be great, it SHOULD be great, but it's just not. Town Pump is in a prime location - in Foxtown, spitting distance from the Fox, the Fillmore, and Comerica Park. This area gets all kinds of attention and traffic both from events/games and also because it's one of the few areas downtown where you can park for the night and bar hop between a handful of different establishments. The interior is full of character - an ornate ceiling, dark wood, and other interesting details. It's the perfect size - not too big but still large enough to accommodate a crowd. Ample amount of bar seating as well as tables. However. All of these great qualities have never stopped the drinks from being weak, the food from being bad (ex: more than one occasion of having to send appetizers back because they were scalding around the edges but still frozen in the center), and the crowd from being annoying. It's either drunk rowdy game goers, or boring. Nothing in between. There is just an X factor here that makes it so I never really find myself having a good time. I can't explain it. But it's consistently so. And people I have been there with have agreed with me. What boggles my mind is that the owners of Town Pump are the same people who own Centaur, right across the street, and Centaur is GREAT in all ways. So I'm not sure why the inconsistency between their second establishment, but all I can say is that I'll go to Centaur any day of the week but avoid Town Pump like the plague.

The Town Pump Tavern behind the Fox Theatre is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. Just don't confuse it with the Town Tavern in Royal Oak as that could make for an interesting business meeting gone wrong. I love the Town Tavern because it is in downtown but also has ample free street parking (unless it is gameday). The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, the food is fairly priced and the beer is cheap. My favorite items at Town Pump Tavern are the unique sandwiches. They have a Cowboy Chicken sandwich that comes with a hunk of chicken, cheese, bacon, and onions. Another favorite is the BBQT, which is shaved turkey, BBQ sauce, onions, jalapenos and their home made fries. The fries are unique in that they are sweet potato fries, covered in curry and served with a side of honey. They give you so many fries and so much food that is almost impossible to eat all of it (I have done it and it hurt). They also have good soups and cheap appetizers like nacho fries. Nacho fries are fries covered in cheese, jalapenos and other awesome stuff that makes you want to reach for a Tums. I've tried all of the varieties and they are very good. TPT as I like to call it, is also good for gameday. It is great for Happy Hour and can fit your group at lunch. Best Bet: BBQT.

This place is nice. Has more of an intimate feel, like a fancy dive bar almost. I like just plopping myself at the bar, eating and drinking and watching TV. The food price sort of exceeds what I would expect to pay in a place like this. The pesto chicken is a must try, as the queso blanco. Both nice portions and cure your hunger. The drinks are also really good, at least in terms of beer selection. Many local selections and that's good for the state, and my stomach. It's a relaxing time in there on most nights (aka not weekends) and that's cool with me. It's not one of those place I would visit frequently, more like once in a while. It's not bad but it's not overwhelming with any of its products. It's a solid bar to throw a couple back and eat some pretty good food. Cheers

Ordered a burger, when it arrived the fries were cold, (not room temp), I instantly tracked down the manager/server and he kinda gave me a look that I interpreted as annoyed with kitchen that the food had been unsatisfactory, but when he returned with basket of room temperature fries 30 seconds later he looked me straight in the face gave me that same look, as if to say, "you satisfied now?" He was actually annoyed with me for asking for some fries that were, like, hot. Anyways, The house burger is garbage. I've had pizza here before, and that was decent. The only positive thing is they have some good local beers....So that's what it is, a place to grab a couple of beers on the way to the game. other thoughts... The bartender was sweet but totally inattentive. Her male counterpart was extremely "cool" and aloof. A glass broke in the idle of the dining room and 6 employees walked around it before somebody did something about it. These people absolutely do not care.

I frequent here for lunch a bit because most everything is closed Mondays in the area. The food is pretty good although a tad pricey. I have been a few times at night on the weekends and it's not the same place I remember opening in the late 90's. It's now more of a local watering hole with TVs and 20 years olds and loud music. I remember it being a bit more of a swanky cigar bar.

Decent bar to have a drink and grab a bite to eat before a Tigers game. Their version of a dirty martini is a little odd. Instead of olive juice it tasted like they used pickle juice. Still a decent martini. Their queso dip with tortilla chips was pretty good and they give you a decent amount. Fancy dive bar would be a great way to describe this place. Wish they had half star options because this place would be 3 and a half stars.

I went to the Autoshow last week and my party decided to stop here for a few drinks. We found a spot across the street and parked and when entering, noticed it was quiet dead. A few people sat at the bar quietly, and the radio was on low... We sat down, took our coats off and after a few minutes later, put them back on. The place was frigid. It had to be 62-65 degrees in there. We asked the bartender about the heat and she replied that it was on a timer?!?!? It's freezing outside and also in here... Dang. The drinks were good and we even had to order a shot of Irish whiskey to warm us up.. Needless to say, the thermostat set at the low 60's might of been a ploy to get more sales. Lol. Just kidding. Will I go back? Probably not...

Don't go there hungry on a game day! All of the staff couldn't care less about helping us find a table except for Kamara, the head of security. Once we finally did get a table, our waitress was nice to us, but not very attentive. Food was o.k. It was a bit of a let-down for me, because I was excited to try something new and the experience was not what I had hoped for.

The food was decent, but everything we ordered was unavailable and the food took forever to arrive even though the place was nearly empty. Our waitress messed up our order in a number of ways and then did not compensate the bill appropriately, even through she expressed that she would. So, our experience can be summed up as this; the cost was double what we expected to pay, the service was slow, and general food items (like a chicken sandwich with fries) were not available at a peak lunchtime hour. I can't even give the place an additional star for food, since we didn't get to eat what we expected to receive. Reading the other reviews, this experience seems like a common one. Lots of other nice restaurants in the area. Stay away from this one!

food was greasy, bartending staff was way more interested in their phones and each other than the patrons. we ordered the same thing and yet one dinner came 15 minutes after the other. i heard, from someone who frequents there during the day, that the lady bartender who works days is amazing, so maybe that's the only time to go there.

One of my favorite spots in the downtown area and has been for years. I like to grab a seat in the library/study section and sit down with a pitcher of some good beer. The staff is always friendly and quick, the vibe is always good and they are always pretty busy. I've been going there for over a decade and recommend it to anyone who will listen if you are looking for a great place to have a drink before a game or show. I also highly recommend their other property which is right across the street, Centaur Bar. They have 5$ martinis during pregame and happy hour, you will love them.

I happened into the Town Pump on a Sunday afternoon -- my initial trek was for Centaur, but for some reason, it was closed. I was the only patron, which was fine because I just wanted a cocktail without the bother from other people. I stopped in just before a show at the Fox -- I wasn't going TO the show, but it must have been starting soon, based on the foot traffic at the time. I ordered a tall bloody mary, which was DELICIOUS and a decent $7. The waitress was nice and not overbearing. After she made my drink, she gave me space and promptly asked if I wanted another when I was finished. I had to drink n run, so I cashed out and left.

They sure are a happy bunch here at the Town Pump. Upon walking in with two others around noon on a Friday, a woman behind the bar yelled to us that if we want to be served, we should sit on *this* side of the restaurant as there's only one waitress for the whole restaurant. No "Hi, how are you?" or even, "If you don't mind sitting on this side of the restaurant, that side is closed", just yelling the second we walked in the door. Had I not been invited here for a client lunch, I would've walked out immediately. We sat ourselves on the correct side of the restaurant where we sat for 15 minutes before given menus. A man walked over to give them to us, and I said that we will have quite a few more people joining so we will need the table next to us, too. His response- "I hope they get here soon then." Wow, it wasn't even busy in there! Ten minutes later, the same woman who yelled at us took our beer and appetizer order. Once the rest of our group came in, she came over to take our order and told us rudely that it will be a while as there's only one waitress and one cook here today. Not my fault the restaurant is stupid enough to only schedule one cook and one waitress during lunch when you have a Kid Rock block party next to your building and a Lions preseason game in a few hours. I get it if you're busy, but don't be a snot to us while we are dining here. Oh yeah, favorite quote from a waitress ever, "Do any of you want ranch? You better tell me now because I'm not going back to the kitchen to get you ranch." Seriously, grow up lady, I hope you read this. Maybe if you are a little nicer to your customers, they might tip you better, and then maybe you won't be so cranky. So why two stars? Because the food was really good. Cheers to the cook who was able to get 8 food orders out at the same time and all while hot if he really was the only one cooking. We had spinach artichoke dip, which was great. I ate the burger, and it was really good too. It was huge, and I still ate the entire thing. It was that delicious. Unfortunately, I probably won't be back due to the not so nice service.

I really enjoyed my time at this pub. Service was great, good atmosphere, and a pretty good beer selection including craft beers. The pizza was surprisingly good, I had chorizo and jalapeno combo that was out of this world. Nothing too fancy, but I'd recommend this place to anyone trying to get a beer and some grub.

Really dark, hard to see. Waitress passed by us multiple times before tossing menus on the table as she went. One menu was missing from the sleeve. Put disposable plastic cups and a pitcher of water on the table, self serve. We ordered chili, a sandwich and a burger well done. Chili wasn't tasty and when we asked for toppings waitress looked at us like we were speaking another language. Burger was rare. To sum up terrible service, ok to poor food, dark atmosphere.

Classy English style design inside with an attractive bartender crew. Suburbanites flock here when downtown. Expect a large showing of button downs and their arm candy. Burgers and fries are very good and their burger/beer $5 lunch deal is excellent. (M-F) Strong beer selection leans conservative but has something for everyone. Friendly locals who may live in the Park Apts above, firemen and other service men often hang out at the bar chatting with the cute bartenders. 1am - 2am gets fun here for nightcaps if you've been soaking in the city.

I'd probably give this place 5 stars, but I hate when you go to a restaurant's website, look at their online menu, excitedly plan out your meal, then get to the restaurant and find that it's now completely different. Boo Town Pump Tavern. Boo. Besides that *really* minor glitch, the bar/restaurant was cool. I made the mistake of going on a Tiger's Game night, so the parking situation was horrible, but the restaurant wasn't as crowded as I would have expected. We also went before/during the game, and I've heard it's a popular after game spot. Their burgers are huge. Like "OMFGBBQ!" huge. I ate 1/2 and wondered if it would be appropriate to unbutton my pants. That's cool, right? The beer selection is pretty decent as well. And the appetizers are delicious -- try the sweet potato fries! I'd consider it a smaller restaurant seating wise, but the atmosphere is nice and there's a few tvs to catch the latest sporting games. Prices were more than decent. I had a $30 Groupon to use and it got us 2 burgers, an appetizer, and five beers. If you can make it over there in time for their lunch time special ($5 beer and burger from 11-2), I'd highly suggest you do.

So there isn't really anything happening in downtown Detroit after 7 p.m. When we arrived at our hotel by Comerica, we were starving so we decided to check this place out. Their beer selection was excellent and I love Bell's, which you couldn't get here in Chicago up until a few weeks ago (it was here, then it was gone, then it was back again... yay!). So I am always up for an Oberon on tap. They also had a good selection of other national microbrews and international bottles. Impressive, really. And the food.... was great!! I was actually surprised that the food was so delicious considering we only ordered sandwiches and we were the only people in the place eating... but seriously, they were divine! My sandwich had sprouts on it. Amazing. I'll definitely go back.

Came here for a quick bite to eat before a Tigers game. It was pretty empty, kind of a mixed crowd of the people that were there. The inside was pretty cool and showed some of the craftsmanship that was put into buildings back in the day. I had the cowboy chicken sandwich and was impressed as far as bar good goes. The waitress was nice and attentive. The prices were very fair. Will definitely be back here sometime!

This place has your basic bar food with a few unique choices. The $1 appetizers during happy hour were not going on the day I was there, very disappointing. Beer selection was not half bad and had quite a few offerings of Michigan brewers.

I went in on a Tiger's home game day. That was the first mistake. The bartender was working alone and had to cover the bar and tables (he yelled out to people that they had to order at the bar). I was not greeted and he seemed to be in a rush to push out beers to tables. I ordered food and was not given any suggestions. I picked the Curry Sweet Potato Fries with honey. I liked that they were a bit crunchy on the outside. However when I added the honey to them I was not happy with the flavor. The curry gave a little spice, but something was lacking (seasoning, salt, or something). I ate a few and left them there after the bartender was not available. I didn't get offered water or asked if I wanted a drink. I will try this place again only because I was in the area and spoke to another bartender from there who suggested to give Town Pump Tavern a chance. She seemed knowledgeable and genuine. Otherwise, I'll stick to Bookie's or Centaur.

Rudest bartender in the world!! We took a group from a corporate holiday party there for last call and were treated like garbage. You'd think in a city that needs all the positive feedback it can get, the owner of TPT would get the staff in order. Seriously dude.. Get over yourself and take a minute to address your obvious inferiority complex. Anyone reading this.. GOTO Cliff bell's for great atmosphere and service!! Steer clear of Town Pump unless you're into aging, disgruntled hipster bartenders.

The TPT has a great location, which is a good and bad thing. Right around the corner from The Fox and behind Hockeytown it's a great, centrally located bar. This prime locale can be a little annoying too, if you happen to to try and get a drink during a sporting event or after a big show. I tend to avoid it on these occassions, as it takes away from the experience, so I suggest others do the same if they want a more relaxed atmosphere. The vibe inside is cool -- library'esque and sexy. The drinks are different, beer selection is nice, and the happy hour specials are pretty great. All in all, its a solid, downtown bar, just check the events downtown before you head over.

Have lived in this neighborhood for years and this place has consistently poor service. The only bar I've been to that frequently is out of things like hamburger buns or lettuce or pepperoni. Don't even try and go here in there are more than 15 ppl there... Incompetent service staff.

Before our event at the Fox Theatre, we decided to grab some food. Out of the huge number of pubs and restaurants, we chose the Town Pump. We had gone there before, cozy, sufficient televisions, and good drinks. That all changed last night when we sat down at a table. Our waiter started out friendly and on the ball, but after one round of drinks and a food order, we didn't see him for 40 minutes. The music was so loud and for what reason. Maybe so they couldn't hear us trying to flag down a waiter. Our food was delivered by another person and no one asked if things were made correctly. The food was cold and the cheese had taken back it original form. There was a Red Wing's game on, but it took asking three different people to get the channel changed. By then we were ready to leave. We paid our bill, the waiter didn't even make eye contact, but when he go to the register and read our message, he was back in a flash. Written on the bill were the words "horrible service and cold food". He informed us, this was not a restaurant but a bar. Funny as our drinks weren't refilled either. Anyway, we won't be going back. I just got off the phone with a head bar tender who made lots of excuses for him. I have the phone number of the manager, but I'm not going to waste my time. I hope the owner, who is so excited about the Red Wing's new home, gets it right. The potential is there, but for now, don't waste your money.

Service was horrible!!! The pizza I ordered didn't come with what I asked for, and it took 30 mins for me to cash out with an empty bar!!! Who does that?!??

Cheap and easy place to grab a beer or sandwich near the ball park and Fox Theatre. I was in town for work and was looking for a nearby place to had a beer and sandwich. I stopped at Hockey Town first, but they don't serve anything other than pizza after 9pm (what's up with that?) So I continued over to Town Pump. The place was quiet, but seemed like a popular place with locals. Everything was cheap and tasty. I had the turkey sandwich, chicken soup and a pint of a local brew for $14. They did have a lot of Michigan beers on tap.

This pub was just fine for an inexpensive, decent lunch. The queso and chips were good, and my BLT was just fine. It isn't a fancy place, but the food is good! A nice alternative place to go when attending a Tigers game. Service was friendly and very timely. What more could you ask from a neighborhood tavern? Good job by all.

We tried out the Town Pump after work on a blustery Friday night and were able to find street parking relatively close. Once we entered we found a booth near the windows and decided to move toward the middle of the restaurant where it might be warmer. Unfortunately this didn't do the trick and we decided to make it a short visit after we noticed half the restaurant had their coats on and we weren't the only ones freezing! I ordered a reisling and my husband got a glass of beer and we took off. Oh well, we'll be back this summer for dinner!

Good beer selection and one of the most comfy bars in the city. We ordered food late which was good all around but I walked away to talk to friends and the rude short blonde bartender had taken away my food and also the food of the two others I was with that were conversing with some ppl that approached them.this bartender had a shit attitude from the second we sat down and it took me 20 minutes to get another water. But I usually always love this place

This was the worst place I had the pleasure of visiting in Detroit: -Really angry and mean waitress who seemed genuinely pissed off to have the inconvenience of waiting on us... -A creepy dude dressed as a pirate trying to sell us Captain Morgan products. -Overpriced beer -Located next to two abandoned buildings (okay, to be fair, so is most of Detroit) -No wings... how the hell does a bar near a ballpark not have wings? really? The pizza was pretty good, though, so there's that. But in just 4 days in Detroit I probably visited 5 or 6 better places within walking distance of Ford Field/Comerica.

After hanging out at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Corktown, we needed warmth and food. Since we had people in our group from different parats of Metro Detroit, we decided to stay in Detroit for dinner. A few suggestions later and we were at Town Pump. There was a lot to like about this bar, but there were a few minor glitches. I'll start with the positives. This place has a lot of character, and I can imagine a lot of characters come here as well. They serve standard and not so standard bar food, and my PMT sandwich was really good for a vegetarian option at a bar. They have a great beer list. Now, I know that this is a small place, but a group of 4 would find a hard time finding a table. The waitress we had was quiet and seemed shy almost. She forgot to get waters, and even forgot one of the beers. One person in the group ordered the french onion soup, and then it never arrived. After we got our food, we asked about the soup, and it was a simple "oops I forgot." Overall, I think the positives out weighed the flighty waitress. A fun place to hang out on game days I'm sure.

So, I've been here a number of times before heading to either Tiger's games or events at the Fox / Fillmore, and this place has never disappointed. The food is surprisingly good for a downtown pub. Got crispy chicken skewers, which were tasty. Great crispy breading. Ceasar salad was good, but too much cheese. Then again, sometimes too much cheese can be a good thing. Bar itself was very cool. Very old-school, lot of character, very urban gritty Detroit. Lots of woodwork, which I love in these old buildings. A must-see spot to begin with, which is likely to become a stand-by...

I like this place. We would go up here with friends a lot when we lived in the D. A great place to grab a beer after a game or a show to wait out the traffic. We have spent many a night closing down the bar here. I never ate here, so can't comment on the food, but they have a good beer selection. Plus, a lot of the poeple that are up here are pretty cool and friendly.

Great place for a beer and some quick food (much better than microwaved chain restaurant fare). The bartenders are very personable, and will make good recommendations. The couple of times I stopped by they also had really cheap lunch specials (for the quality of beer/food received). Also, the regulars are pretty laid back unlike the generic hockey bar down the street, which is useful if you plan to engage in conversations with people who are not idiots!

two-faced killer, pizza so-so, gorgeous interior, they have Boddingtons! I've been here twice and the difference was like night and day. Coming in for a few afternoon brews to get some reading done in the middle of the work week, around 3pm, the place was mostly empty, sunny, super comfy and charming, and attentive service. They have Boddington's on tap which is one of my faves. Super plus. But coming today, Friday, at 5pm, holy lord what the hell happened? Impossibly raucous crowd... name-chanting (ie. GAAAAA-RY! GAAAA-RY!) handless shot slurping, tables of 10... this is the kind of scene you'd expect at a Buffalo WIld Wings or something... not so bad in and of itself, but just doesn't match the kind of antiquated appeal of the interior... the inside of the Town Pump Taven looks like an early 20th century English pub (complete with a library and leather chairs tucked away in one corner). But the frat-attack friday just made it seem like a schizophrenic scene. Three more things to note: the service somehow kept its cool and attentiveness through the mayhem (despite overhearing one poor server lament in a resigning sigh "it's way too early for this bullshit"), they were showing Xtreme Sport BMXing on the tele - which again clashed with the decor, but perhaps not with the clientele, and finally, the pizza isn't all that great. somewhere between meh and a-ok. Sauce is sweet, crust is a little better than frozen pizza you'd eat at home, and the cheese kind of standard. I wouldn't go back for it though it did go well with the Boddingtons. Wish they would spruce up the menu a bit, and maybe tone-down just a tad the emphasis on happy hour specials and cheap snacks... or even turn off the tvs and get someone on that piano more often. or trade in the larger tables for a few 4-6 seater booths. This really rustic and nostalgic interior deserves a just slightly more classy do-over...

I heart the Town pump. This is a great bar, that makes me feel like Norm from Cheers. Located blocks from Comerica Park, this welcoming bar is a hot spot to grab a beer or three before a Tigers game or a show at the Fox Theater. The Town Pump, dimly light, with gorgeous wood architecture has an old feel to it all while remaining modern, perhaps it;s the Peter Bjorn or other modern indie tunes that fill the bar that give it its youth and vibrance. the bartenders are friendly, a Sam Malone kinda feel, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the beer selection is pretty expansive. In addition, to the vast amount of booze up for grabs, this Detroit bar also has a pretty extensive menu from chips and salsa to salads to burgers. Oh, and a grilled portobello sandwich that regardless if I;mhungry or not, I have to order. Yummy! The Town Pump also offers live music every now and then, although the good bar banter and friendly patrons should keep you entertained for hours.

Very comfortable atmosphere, makes you feel like you're in your living room, except you have to pay for the beer. Don't worry though, decent prices on the beer, and an excellent selection to boot. Located a couple blocks behind the Fox Theater complex, great for a drink pre- or post- theater, or sporting event. Everyone's friendly, and there is rarely a cover. Not a place for frou-frou drinks, so just grab a beer and chill with your friends.

Went in during lunch for the 5 dollar burger and beer with 5 other students. We weren't informed that we couldn't split the check till the end and the waitress got mad. Clearly one of us isn't paying for everyone....figure it out lady. Also were told never to come back by the waitress's friend sitting at the bar. Love the food not the way they treated us....

The Town Pump is perfectly located just outside of the hustle and bustle of the theater / baseball / football area but close enough to walk to all the events. We park at the town pump and walk to sports games or the theater. We take the shuttle to the Red Wings game. Their food is good and the drink prices are easy on the wallet. Always a fun crown and generally a nice place. A tin ceiling and wood paneling gives this place an old school feeling. You are quickly at ease. This is a bar that serves food and not the other way around! Well worth a stop in.

I use to hang out often at The Town Pump Tavern when I lived in Detroit a few years ago. A friendly bartender with mad tumbling skills made a great cosmo. He's long gone, but I still drop by when visiting family during the holidays. The wood panelling always exhibits more scuffs, the Christmas decorations are always a little limper. The long-time residents of the hotel that houses the bar stroll through now and again ("Ah, The Actor", "Uh-oh. It's Camo Guy"). Pre-game at Ford Field, it's not busy. A good time for a couple of competently made, strong drinks at the bar. It's 3 out of 3 for the bartenders: at different points during my visit they all flash a smile and inquire pleasantly "How are you?". The cook hustles when it is busy, but shoots the breeze during a break. Nice place to sit and watch the snow fall....

I.Love.This.Bar. Ever since this joint opened they have always catered to an ecclectic crowd, preppies, punks, union men, hiphopppers, wow. The music rocks, lots of Prince, Men at Work etc. Drinks are fantastic, reasonable price, great pours. Kelly the Bartender is awesome. I would go here over and over.

The Town Pump is the pregame place for the theater district. Want to catch a beer before going to the Tigers game and avoid the douchery that's likely going on at Hockeytown? Town Pump Tavern. Want to get a little lit before heading into the Fox and having to pay $8 for a beer? Town Pump Tavern. A little bit nicer, a little bit calmer than the alternatives.

Came here because of the name and wasn't disappointed. It was like a community bar with gorgeous woodwork and the occasional closeted hockey fan who couldn't quite make it across the street.

boring... this place is lame. I wish it went Gothic at 11:00 - it would add some excitement.

This joint rules. Definitely pre-game here before a Redwing game...to hell with the crowded Redwing bar/restaurant. Go Redwings!

This is a nice little bar, but it takes on a completely different atmosphere at night. Look out around 11:00 PM, it goes Gothic!

The Town Pump Tavern is a great place to go in the winter. The warm wood interior, with tons of book shelves really makes for a cozy place. When I lived in "the D", this was one of my favorite places to go when I wanted to kick back and have a good talk with some of my buddies.

I was hesitant to even bother to review the pump as I figured it seems like EVERYONE already knows about it. But I figured what the heck. The Town Pump is one place in the city that I can count on being crowded whenever there is an event going on downtown. Even if there is not an "event", I still know I can find a decent crowd here. This place is not first on my list of places to go to for that exact reason ( I know they will already be busy!, and I Like to spread out my business to other places that could use a few more butts in the chairs) - When I do stop into the pump, I do not leave disappointed. (Warning: I rarely leave sober either!) They have a pretty good selection of beverages - I have seen people eat food there, but I have not attempted to purchase any on my own. The Town Pump is the epitome of a classic hang-out. The interior is pretty sweet, the service is decent, the music can be interesting (especially when live) - and the patrons are always super-fun. (Just don't let super creepy guy try to give you a "tour" of the Park Avenue.... You don't want a tour. Tell him to leave you alone)

A great place before/after any event downtown. The food is surprisingly good and always a great drinking atmosphere.

(4)Christine S.
(4)Amy B.
(3)Ashley H.
(4)Mark N.

(2)Steve S.
(4)Karen H.

(1)Ely M.
The reason to eat here is the BBQ chicken pizza. They also have good beer.
(3)Nicole D F.
I can't say enough about the kindness that poured forth from all the waitstaff. Just go here and bring a smile and have a great time!
(5)Tricia H.
(3)Kimberly D.
(3)Dave K.
(2)Sandi K.
(3)jane k.
(1)Becki K.
food was greasy, bartending staff was way more interested in their phones and each other than the patrons. we ordered the same thing and yet one dinner came 15 minutes after the other. i heard, from someone who frequents there during the day, that the lady bartender who works days is amazing, so maybe that's the only time to go there.
(2)David M.
(5)Nikki C.
(3)Nicole S.
(2)Karen A.
The only time I've been here is on Sunday when no game or anything is going on.. It's pretty dead. And I like it. Great service. Good food.
(5)Will S.
(4)Lia S.
(1)Vassilis J.
(4)Rachel K.
(4)Jenna S.
(4)Carlos G.
(4)Brooke C.
This place has your basic bar food with a few unique choices. The $1 appetizers during happy hour were not going on the day I was there, very disappointing. Beer selection was not half bad and had quite a few offerings of Michigan brewers.
(3)Nina M.
(1)Hillary F.
(1)Jaclyn S.
(4)Calder W. K.
Have lived in this neighborhood for years and this place has consistently poor service. The only bar I've been to that frequently is out of things like hamburger buns or lettuce or pepperoni. Don't even try and go here in there are more than 15 ppl there... Incompetent service staff.
(1)Joyce F.
(1)Bet L.
Service was horrible!!! The pizza I ordered didn't come with what I asked for, and it took 30 mins for me to cash out with an empty bar!!! Who does that?!??
(1)Elsbeth S.
The service here is nothing short of friendly. The bar tender was always checking in to see what we needed and if our drinking needed refilling! Always important in a good bar
(3)Tony D.
(4)Paula P.
(3)Lindsey T.

Decent food. Diverse, reasonably priced menu with both vegetarian and meat options. Happy hour with inexpensive pitchers of beer. Service was friendly but not super speedy.

(3)Steve S.
