This place is good. The atmosphere is cool and fits with downtown Detroit. Also, the staff was very friendly. I enjoyed the food but wasn't too impressed. I wouldn't say the food was disappointing based on the prices which are somewhat reasonable. However, I still think improvement in the menu could improve this place. They have a good burger and sandwich section on their menu, but their beer selection was pretty limited. They had a pretty extensive wine list and lots of traditional entrees, so I think the place is aiming to be more of a classy entrée type place, but no one in my party was too impressed with their meals. Again, everything was decent and there wasn't anything wrong with the food, but nothing stood out as remarkable. It seems like this restaurant is trying to balance between a beer/burger place and a wine/entrée place, but isn't exceptional in either category. That being said, it's still a good place and I recommend that people check it out. It's a new place so maybe they just need to grow into themselves. I might check it out in a year or so and see where this place goes.

I enjoyed a great day in Detroit with a friend and we stopped here for a late lunch. It was quiet so we didn't wait for a table. The service was great from top to bottom. The hostess was great and our waitress was just delightful. She was attentive, and also very fun. We really loved the casual automotive decor that accented the neutral greys. While we sat at the window it was a wonderful spot for people watching on a sunny Sunday. The caesar salad was tasty and a nice start. The butternut risotto was also really good. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Excellent jambalaya and a very good ribeye. The crab cakes seemed overpriced, and were a bit on the bland side. The decor was clean and hip, with a cool automotive theme.

Great Service, even Better Food.....My wife LOVED the steak and I was Very impressed with the Lamb! WILL Defiantly be back !!

We were able to score a table after the symphony without a reservation, which was really great. The hostess was friendly and seated us far enough away from the door to keep the frigid blast of air from door use out of our way. I had Maker's on the rocks and it was a generous pour with not too much ice. The wait service was top notch - available when we needed something but not obtrusive. Now, onto the food. Definitely hit or miss. My burger was good but the bun was stale. The fries were OK, nothing special and had been a little too long out of the oil before i got them. My companion's salad was fresh, but some of the items hadn't been quite cleaned up before serving because she experienced a distinctly gritty taste from the greens. We declined dessert. The biggest gripe I had was that we were seated next to a window and by the time our meal was done we were freezing. For the love of all that's holy, get those windows re-caulked before next winter! All in all, we would come back again.

I love this restaurant. Great ambience and great bar. They really need to offer some vegetarian choices though. It's time to update the menu! Don't order the Detroit demi sec from Leelenau. It's a great sparkling wine that is normally great, but ruined because they pull it from a tap.

I liked this place. Have only been here once. I had fish and my husband had ribs. The ambiance is nice, dark and loud. The fish was good but soo dry. The ribs did not have enough meat. The crab cakes were awesome. Very overpriced that's why it lost a star. I wouldn't mind coming here again.

First off... Love the decor. Thumbs up! Bad choice of flooring though, many wood floors show less footprints. ;-) Oops. We went there for BRUNCH. Ok, Pet peeve first... the orange juice was not fresh squeezed. It wasn't even a nice homogenated facsimile of fresh. The food was pleasant. I had the crab cake take on eggs benedict. Nice potatoes. No toast. Well prepared egg. Service was pleasant but slow for being so not busy. Next Detroit brunch will be elsewhere, although we do plan to come back and try the dinner here since it's so close to me and the place does get great reviews. Perhaps we just picked the wrong thing or wrong time to be impressed.

Food was great, but the service left something to be desired. Several of the plates had to be returned because the waitress entered them wrong. Despite asking everyone name at the table, she was unable to match any of the entrees or drinks. She seemed flustered the entire service.

Ambiance: It has a really cool downtown feel with the exposed brick and modern look to it. I felt like I walked into a restaurant in Chicago. Customer Service: The staff was very friendly, which made it an even more pleasant experience. Food: Crab cakes: Crab meat: sweet peppers and Old Bay seasoning, spicy arugula, roasted red pepper tartar sauce. I can start out by saying that crab cakes are my favorite guilty pleasure, and I typically only get them at high end restaurants to ensure quality. The crab cakes here were pretty great, as they were formed and cooked to perfection. The tartar sauce was quite a great addition and I couldn't get enough. Mahi Mahi Tacos: Grilled seasoned Mahi Mahi with Napa cabbage, charred green onion, cilantro sauce, white corn tortillas. This was a good, light appetizer, but I wasn't as impressed as with the crab cakes. I felt that the fish was overcooked by just a minute or less, which is certainly a significant difference between perfection and overcooking. Drinks: They have an assortment of specialty cocktails in which I will love to try next time, however, I felt like staying a little low key with a nice glass of Tempranillo red wine. The overall experience has made me want to come back and try their brunch and other menu items. It gives me great hope and more pride that the Detroit area, especially around WSU is being introduced to such great new venues.

Went here for a business lunch and was really impressed. I'm disappointed that this place doesn't seem to be getting the press and buzz it deserves. I got the Midtown Chicken, which I highly recommend - panko crusted chicken that was fried so lightly that I didn't even feel guilty. Covered in greens and olive tapanade. It was a really unique dish - salty, light, and just a touch of citrus. The service was on point, the food was very fresh tasting, and the menu had a lot of diverse choices. I also enjoyed that it doesn't have the super trendy feel, they just seem to focus on the food and the service. It really does result in a great experience.

The waitress that's born on June 26 made our night. First time in Detroit, don't know anyone. After having dinner here, our group felt like she was family. Great burgers too!

So today I'm sitting at the midtown grille getting accosted by a lady who claims she's pregnant and keeps coming to our table begging for money. Management is not protecting from this happening. This is incredibly uncomfortable. The service is fine but this experience explains to me why I am always so hesitant to have a dining experience in Detroit.

Loved the menu! Many flavorful varieties. Our party started off with the calamari and later had the roasted vegetable salad with salmon; cheeseburger, alfredo pasta and vegetable quesadilla. We were not disappointed with any of the selections. Location is a bit small, but simply decorated not to feel too small. There was a wheelchair and service animal in our party so we only had the option of sitting a large table by the door. Enough space for us, but it was cramped for those walking by. Service was personable by all and we definitely felt welcomed!

Ate here for lunch last week and came away impressed. Pretty ample parking along Woodward, though you may have to pay for a metered spot (half hour max, which is annoying). It's a nice, open interior with a main dining area that flows into the bar area. Classy place - no jacket or anything required, butt I wouldn't come in here in worn out jeans or sweats. The service was pleasant, not super abrupt but it was the lunch rush so no worries on my end. I did have to ration my iced tea because I could tell I wasn't going to be able to get a refill. Anyways, I ordered the cajun mahi sandwich, and it was very good. Well flavored and cooked, good portion size, and beautifully presented. The fries were very tasty, with a sweet potato option as well. There were a lot of appealing items on the menu, and based on my enjoyment of my sandwich I would love to try them. Reasonable prices considering the quality of food and atmosphere, but not a place for a cheap lunch. I'll be back next time I'm around.

I wandered in off the street. I had time to kill and needed lunch. I was greeted by a friendly hostess whom was knowledgeable and helpful and seated me promptly. My service was warm and friendly. There were only two servers working and they both seemed in control and efficient. I had calamari appetizer which I'll sparingly give a 7 out of 10. It was slightly over cooked and the plate was really incoherent. There were a few pieces of dry (clearly wilted prior to cooking) red bell peppers and some chopped scallions. It was sauced with an out of the bottle sweet Thai chili sauce (Mae ploy) l. Not bad, but certainly nothing I'd order again. The grilled cheese was more redeeming. The whole grain bread was hearty and crisp. The salty bacon and fresh tomato made for a tasty sandwich, served with vermouth and tomato bisque. The soup is unique and tangy with lots of herbs and made for perfect dipping. While having lunch I noticed they offer a brunch menu. I think I'll return to try brunch!

I thought the service was good but the food left a lot to be desired. There were three of us- two ordered soups and one got a salad...both soups were extra salty and the salad had so much rotten lettuce it had to go back. We were then informed that they were out of lettuce. We ordered three meals and two of three were too spicy to eat. The menu states something about a 'from scratch' kitchen but the pie we got was most definitely not from scratch and when we asked about the 'gourmet fries' we were told that they 'just come in a frozen bag because nobody back there is cutting them up'. Overall, just blah.

I've been there twice now. The first time I had the salmon and was blown away! The attention to detail was beautiful. The lemon was grilled so that the juice was warm and just a little squeeze was all it took. The skin was seared to a nice crisp. The Loaded baked potato soup was so delicious, the bacon pieces where super fresh and crispy. The second time I went I got the ALT with Bacon. The bacon was too soft, I had a hard time eating it. The wrap was also all little dry and brittle. I ended up giving up on trying to eat it. The fries were very good.

The decorations are on the nose but frankly Detroit needs more places that celebrate our car culture. The Midtown Hash is delicious breakfast.

Visited this place just a few days ago. Love the interior, very sleek and the decor with the cars is pretty cool. My server, Gerald, was super friendly and made great recommendations from the menu. The food was pretty good, ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and the salmon dish. My gripes about the food are mainly about the price; I don't mind paying more for upscale dishes and although the quality of the food was fine, for the portions I left there feeling kind of unsatisfied. The salmon dish was perfectly cooked, but was a smaller portion (small pile of rice and even tinier pile of greens that are basically decoration). It didn't come with any accompaniments like a salad or soup, which I would at least hope for if I'm paying 16$ for it! A comment about both the shrimp and the salmon; they were both a little too sweet for me. Both tasted like they had been drenched in sweet chili sauce/marmalade. That said, I would return to try some other things, I had my eye on the jambalaya.

Arugula salad was delicious. We split it for two. Highly recommend the glazed salmon. Mahi mahi was very good. Bread pudding dessert was outstanding. Service was excellent

The drinks were weak and food came out semi-cold. I mentioned this to the waitress and she fixed the food, but my second drink was even worse (like soda water with barely a hint of liquor). She tried to make things right, but didn't comp anything, which would have been helpful. Maybe was an off night, but seemed too expensive for so many things to go wrong.

My 3 friends and I all wondered how this place opened without a peep. But how happy we were to stumble upon it. Cozy atmosphere, delicious food and a helpful and charming waitress. The calamari appetizer was really tasty, then 2 friends had the salmon filet and loved it; 1 friend had the tempura shrimp (which was a really generous serving) and said it was really good; I had the salmon Nicoise and hit the jackpot! The bar looks inviting and its proximity to Orchestra Hall seems ideal.

Date night dinner with my wife. This is one of the newer restaurants in midtown. The place is decorated with a modern lofty bar feel. Service was fast and attentive. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer, comes as 2 to share, they were very tasty but would have loved a little more of their dressing. For our entrees we had the blackened mahi mahi and the lamb chops. The fish was very well cooked and seasoned and looked delicious. It was, albeit a little dry. The mango topping needed a little more sauce to it to make the dish a little more juicy. The lamb chops were good sized, but may not satisfy your appetite. They were perfectly grilled and seasoned. The mash potatoes were amazing. I would have loved if the portions were just a little bigger and juicier.

The slowest service ever. Was there for about 20 minutes before we ever saw our waitress. Took another 20+ minutes for drinks. Don't even think about a second glass of wine. One person at our table never even got hers and it was on the bill. Server tried adding a 28% gratuity to some bills because there was 7 of us, that didn't go over. I too am in the food service industry and often forgive "slower" service because I understand being busy, but this was ridiculous. Can't speak for the entire place so it's not a fair review, but I would definitely make sure I had a different server if I ever go back. She wasn't even friendly to make up for it. The food, however, was good.

The service was excellent. The calamari, stuffed mushrooms, and ribeye are a must. The butterscotch bread pudding was an excellent way to end a great meal. The Grille Midtown is an absolute must try.

We split the Mixed Grille (lobster tail, shrimp, scallops), rice, and asparagus topped off with a Summer Shandy; what a great dinner! For desert we split the BEST Key Lime pie we've ever tasted; We've traveled the Keys a number of times and nothing in the Keys compares (we suggested to the hostess that they should consider selling whole pies to-go!!!).
(5)Evan D.
Walked into a wonderful experience, very comfortable modern restaurant with a fantastic selection and a great bartender Chuck gave a awesome suggestion of there jambalaya (amazing) great selection of drinks had a great experience
(5)Clarinda B.
Good enough but not spectacular. I had the surf and turf special; the filet mignon was cooked medium but still slightly tough (bad cut?) and the lobster was dry. My husband is a vegetarian, so he was limited to a salad and mac-n-cheese; both very uninspiring. I would go back once more because the service and ambiance were quite nice, but I wouldn't try that meal again. Hopefully they can make me a believer -- I'm rooting for them.

We really enjoyed this place. The food we had was great - the pear and fennel salad and the jambalaya. The service was fast and the staff was super friendly. We will definitely go back again.

Ok so we went there a group of 7 girls on Friday night for my friends birthday I for there early cause I has gotten a cake for my friends birthday and wanted it to be a surprise. When we say down it started off well apps were good salads were great. However after that was down hill. The orders were wrong for some people. The mashed potatoes came out cold twice. The waiter said after dinner I will bring out the cake in front of the birthday girl and ruined the surprise. When the bill came they didn't comp us for anything which is fine but a good restaurant would do something for trouble. Anyway we split the bill I made it a even number and the waiter got an 18% tip even though he didn't deserve it. He came back to the table and had the nerve to tell us we should have given him a 20% tip I was shocked. We complained to the manager and he didn't seem to care. We left and a few days later we noticed that when we split the bill it was supposed to be paid in cash and one person has a credit card to 40 on only the waiter out the full amount of the bill on her credit card and probably pocketed the cash. Simply most awful restaurant experience ever!

Loved this place. The food and service was fantastic. Our server, Adiya was fantastic. We had the spinach artichoke app w warm pita. Very nice. He had the salmon, I had the blackened mahi. Both were exceptional. We shared the bread pudding on Aditya's recommendation. The perfect end to a great meal. Can't wait to go back for bottomless mimosa brunch!

We live upstairs in the apartments and come here often. When we have guests over, Midtown Grill never disappoints! The only negative is that the cheesecake is on the menu but hasn't been available once yet and we really want to try it... BRING BACK THE MIXED BERRY CHEESECAKE CHEF KEVIN! - Michael and Heather
(5)Kristen C.
Went here for brunch. The service was excellent. The food was excellent! Yummy shrimp and grits and yummy wheat pancakes (fluffy texture and awesome flavor, not like some of the "healthier" pancakes I have had elsewhere). Would definitely come back here! Good vibe with hip decor. I also felt like it was a really good value for such upscale brunch food ($8-$12 per person). That's like what you normally pay for mediocre chain food, except that The Grille food is fresh, creative, and delicious!

Nicely appointed spot. Nice local color. Great food! Good portions!
(4)Becki K.
we went there last night for dinner. The staff was amazing, the food was amazing, the decor is cool. my only complaint is the parking. The city of Detroit has meters out front which only allow you to park for one hour. That's not long enough to enjoy dinner and drinks with friends.
(4)April P.
My husband and I tried this restaurant yesterday for lunch. We were both very pleased with our meal, the service, and the atmosphere! My husband ordered a burger and fries. The burger was big and juicy and the fries were well seasoned and came with a deliciously seasoned mayo dip. I ordered the tomato, avocado, spinach wrap. I didn't expect much as this was the least exciting option to choose on the menu. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The dressing they added to the wrap was delicious. Aside from the food, our service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, she suggested meal options, and was very friendly. I also liked the vibe of the place- it was comfortable and showed the Motown pride from their decor. I look forwarded to trying this restaurant again for dinner sometime soon!

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place after our first choice was closed, but oh my goodness, I'm so glad we decided to come here. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and is full of cool classic car photos/paintings. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the fish tacos (off their appetizers) with a side salad and it was amazing! The salad was basic but the dressing was the bomb. These may just be the best fish tacos I've never had. First, they're huge! 2 tacos stuffed me! Second, the mahi mahi is grilled, not fried, and it was cooked perfectly! Third, they added a spicy mayo based sauce which was a perfect combination with the cabbage and fish. The best part, They were very reasonably priced! Always appreciated! My boyfriend got a burger with Carmelites onions, bacon and goat cheese. You could really taste the caramelized onions! It was a really great burger! We absolutely will be going back!

I posted a great review of this place before, but Yelp has hidden it, along with many other 5 star ratings. Odd? I think so.
(5)Ted S.
Can anyone provide me with an idea of pricing? Their online menu has prices omitted. That is not a good thing!

We ate dinner at the Grille Midtown on 1/18/14 with a group of 7 and we had reservations. We sat without menus for at least 10 minutes. It took another 30 minutes to order drinks. They have a nice wine selection, but no cocktail menu. There was a very unhelpful host standing at the host stand texting and drinking water but not providing menu's to tables or help to servers. We noticed 2 manager's walking around aimlessly and they were also not a help. Our server was excellent, Gerald, however he was overwhelmed with 2 tables of 10 and 1 table of 7 again with no help from management or the host who were doing nothing. Anytime an employee asked the host a question he became rude and argumentative with them; clearly he has never been in the restaurant business and he must be related to someone because his lazy demeanor and rude attitude would have had him fired elsewhere. The food was EXCELLENT. We split crab cakes, calamari, asparagus, mac and cheese, mini filet appetizer and a butternut squash salad. The filet's were cooked exactly the way they were ordered, they were tender and tasty. The prices are very reasonable for food and drinks. The décor was very minimalistic and cold. I will not return due to the terrible service by the host and the management. We felt completely ignored.
