I won't lie, I usual don't post, but Jose's is worth my time, all the time. The people and service are amazing, but the food is even better. Yes, every time I have set foot in Jose's, I am greeted with a big fat smile and it's wonderful, but the big plus is the food. Simply put, it's just plain great!! I love Jose's and don't be afraid to check them out. Detroit is getting more safe than in years past so DON'T be afraid to get out to Detroit and have some good ole Mexican food served up by people who know how to serve it. The only experience you'll have is tasting some good ole Mexican food and you won't regret a second of it. I started going to Jose's Taco probably about two weeks ago, and you know what....I've been there at least eight times. I know...overload, and I would have thought the same, but it's so good there that I don't even argue with my co-worker when he says "Jose's for lunch?" When he's know I just went there the last two days because Jose's is great! I just go with it because my taste buds agree....Jose's is great, and I'm getting all my other co-workers on it too. Ask them what they think, and they all said the same exact thing...Jose's is great!!! To conclude...Jose's is GREAT!! And do yourself a favor....make your way downtown to a little, what may appear as a hole in the wall, but to your realization after your meal, is a great hidden gem of a Mexican restaurant serving up some really great Mexican food. My only downfall...I am frugal and wished wished wished...it was in the $6-$8 range instead of the $9-$12 range for my meals (I like all the toppings, sidings, extras), but even that doesn't stop me.

It's pricey for standard Mexican food. About $10 for a small meal. The food is good though, but nothing memorable. The place is a pop up and has just a few small tables including one outside. They do sell some interesting fruit popsicles.

My guy loves Jose's and is always raving about how good the food is. I was a bit hesitant at first since the menu didn't have my favorites: Carnitas and lengua. I ordered 1 Asada, 1 pork, and 1 shrimp. The tacos were all soo yummy and the green sauce is on point. The service is awesome too. The staff let us know that sometimes they will make carnitas on the weekends. Apparently they did have lengua when they first opened, but it was not too popular. I hope they bring it back because I seriously would eat it every other day. You gotta give this place a try when you are downtown. It's about $1ish more per taco than what you would pay in Mexican town, but totally worth it.

Mmmmmm is all I can say. One of my coworkers knows all of the best restaurants downtown, be they popular or little hole-in-the-wall joints. She knew I was super busy, and offered to bring me back some food since they were going to Jose's. I'd never been there before, but I'm so glad I said yes. Those tacos were truthfully some of the best I've ever had, deliciously deep-fried with onions, cheese and cilantro. I will certainly be going back soon, and will probably need to bring the hubby. We eat Mexican food and sushi like it's our job...but don't ask how those two types of food are related, because I have no clue.

This place is fantastic. The only thing that would make it better would be beer or a marg to go with the awesome food. Salsa is great, soft corn tortillas taste homemade and are way better than anything I've had around here. The guac was well seasoned and was served with warm chips. A great little find with amazing food. We'll be back.

I feel mislead by Yelp on this place. The nineteen 4.5 star reviews made me think I was in for an amazing, Mexicantown 'Taqueria del rey' type of place and this was anything but. They serve glorified Ortega tacos with ground beef. Save yourself the mediocre experience you could get from Kroger for $4 (I was charged $15 for three tacos and two Jarritos) and head to Mexicantown for the real thing.

Insane amount of food for the price. Had the chilaquiles and the huevos con chorizo. Both were delicious. About ten minute wait for food. Server was friendly. Highly recommend

I'm not going to tell you this place is as good as, say, Taco El Rey. You won't find goat or cabeza tacos here, unfortunately. It is, however, right in the middle of downtown. It is also very, very good. Location, service, and very tasty food = 5 stars. Two very substantial tacos for $3.50 at lunch, complete with grilled onion, lettuce, cheese, lime, and salsa. What more could you want?

Food is excellent. Saw this place on my drive home one day last year and had to try it. Have been going ever since. There's only one other Mexican place that's by Campus Martius but it doesn't hold a candle to Jose's. Food speaks for itself. Of course they have to have crunchy shells and ground beef to satisfy American tastes but the rest of the menu is as authentic as it gets. I myself am partial to Carne Asada and Al Pastor on traditional corn tortillas with cebollas and cilantro. Add grilled onions and house made hot sauce or salsa verde and you're golden. It's still new but with the time it's been around there is a huge following now. It's nice to now go there and see it being packed with maybe a couple tables to sit at. Always a good sign. Makes me miss the days when hardly anyone knew about it. I wish them nothing but success. Keep up the great and amazing job!!

These guys were fantastic. They were packed with loads of us from the youth gathering, and they were on top of it. Gave the new girl a run for her money and she rocked it!!! Super quick and super good, well done guys, we all loved you! We'd come back if we lived here!!!

It is refreshing to find an authentic Mexican cuisine in the city. Tex-mex is alright, but severely lacking. This is a little hole in the wall place that has stolen my heart. It all started with the corn tacos. I'd go have them for lunch. They're fantastic! The burritos are amazing. The nachos are delightful. This is definitely a gem in the city.

Went here for lunch. The service was very friendly and decently fast. The restaurant was quite a bit bigger than I imagined from the other yelp reviews I read. I got two steak tacos with rice and beans and my boyfriend had the chicken chimichangas. I think next time I will get the chicken instead. Almost every time I get steak on a taco it's chewy and fatty and that's about how it was here. I mean it wasn't bad, but I think the chicken in the chimichangas was much better. Also I'm picky and I don't like anything other than cheese and some salsa on my taco. At some places when you ask for tacos with just cheese they give you an irritated look and scoff at you, but not at this place. The girl at the cash register was super nice about it and my food came out perfectly.

I had three soft steak tacos for lunch yesterday from Jose's and they were stunning. I can't wait to go there again and try something else.

It's like Mexican Town in Down Town. Everything is fresh and quality. A really good spot. Highly recommend!

This is our favorite Mexican spot in the D now. The atmosphere may lead some to believe that the food is lacking, but this reminds me of my favorite spots back in CA. A family run establishment means the service is on point.. But the real star of the show is the food. We tried the carnitas and chorizo tacos and an al pastor wet burrito. All were amazing. We found our hidden Jem in the city

Perfect spot for great authentic Mexican food. I had the two taco Tuesday special and the veggie lunch combo- everything was amazing. The jalapeños on the refried beans were a nice touch. There were a lot of veggies in the burrito and they tasted very fresh. I snuck a few bites of the tacos I got for my friend and they were just as good. Fresh meat and flavorful toppings. The salsa was great and a nice kick when I added it to the rice- which was good alone, I just loved the salsa. Quick friendly and efficient service. The perfect spot for lunch! I will definitely be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
