The bartenders here are soooooo slow. Waiting 10+ mins for drinks is unacceptable.

I very much love this place, but only when it's not overcrowded. They really make honest efforts to have a solid and varied menu, and over the last 10 years? I haven't had one meal I've been disappointed with.

I was struggling between 3 stars and 4... but nostalgia made me go with 4. I will have to start by saying that I like Harry's more a couple of years ago- While I appreciate the added space with the upper level, it seems like the bar lost something at the same time. Perhaps I am just sensitive to change. That said- Harry's is a great place to start the evening when you are going downtown for an event. (Sporting, concert, things of that nature.) Their parking is convenient, free and attended. I have at times worried b/c there are some sketchy people who wander through the area and hang out at the liquor store- but I have never had a problem with parking my vehicle there. I also give an A+ to the parking lot attendant- He is awesome. I think the food is better than average bar fare. There are some things on the menu that fall flat, but I have had good luck with the burgers and sandwiches. Drink selection is decent- prices aren't too ridiculous. The atmosphere is usually pretty decent - if there is any sort of event going on downtown, the bar will be full of fellow fans. They also offer a free shuttle to wherever you are going downtown- They have had some questionable drivers in the past (We got pulled over once and the driver didn't have a license and was clearly tipsy- Awesome. Needless to say he doesn't work there anymore). The drivers lately seem more reliable- tip them! There were some old servers/bartenders who used to work there who were pretty fantastic- I miss them, but I am sure I can find new favorites. All in all- Harry's is not a bad stop. Just a quick edit- I saw above that it says Harry's is not good for kids- Just wanted to point out that before Tigers, Lions, Red Wings games- I often see a number of kids in the place with their parents. It's not like it's kiddie land or anything, but it is not impossible to bring your child. Bathroom is okay- spacious even if there aren't a lot of stalls. Check for TP first!

Went here for lunch and drinks before the Kenny Chesny concert. They have free parking and free shuttle service or it's close enough so you can walk the four city blocks to Ford Field or Comerica Park. They were a bit understaffed but seemed to get by with the staff that they had. The food was okay. When we were ready to leave we found that our car was completely parked in and we had to wait for the lot attendant to come and move a few cars so we could get out (what's up with that?) All in all not a bad gathering point if you're going downtown for an event.

I've had some good burgers here but the service, crowd and drinks really fall short.

Went in here for the first time after a breezy day downtown with a friend who claims to patronize this bar often. There was a Tiger game that day and it was a pretty busy place, seems to be a place to go on a game day and the patio/deck up top looked pretty happening too. Not a super great area there but the fenced-in FREE parking was kind of a pleasant surprise. Seems like even when you are patronizing a business downtown, free parking is still hard to come by - especially on a game day - so kudos to Harry's for that! I ordered a beer and my friend said aloud that she wanted martini. She said to the waitress, "You don't have Beefeater, do you...." (And, since she's been in this place before she knows this, I think she was just thinking aloud) and the waitress says, "Well, there are other beers on tap...." LMAO! In her defense, maybe there IS a Beefeater beer somewhere, there are so many darn beers that exist in this world....and she was a younger girl, maybe just does not know yet that Beefeater is a pretty well-known gin. I know bars sometimes don't hire girls exactly for their booze knowledge, and hell it's hard to possibly know every single bottle of everything back there....but basics...lol..I am 34 and would probably considered "old hag" by bar waitress standards, I don't wear tiny clothes BUT I know that Beefeater is a gin.. I just thought it was funny though, everyone has to learn somewhere. Regardless, she was polite and got our drinks but it was hard to find her when it came time to pay the tab ~ this is one thing that annoys me a lot about most any bars or restaurants, the "drop it and forget you" way of leaving a tab. Giving it a 4 although I did NOT eat here...well I can always come back one day and edit I guess, if I return to find the food totally sucks! I gave the rating based on general atmosphere and it seems like a fun place to party before or even after a game. The food looked and smelled good but we had just eaten recently....it looked like general bar fare, burgers 'n fries 'n stuff.

I was really disappointed with Harry's. I went there to watch a NFL game on Sunday at 1pm. Not only were they rude when I asked whether they would be showing my game on one of their TVs, but it turned out that they couldn't even get the game (something wrong with their Sunday Ticket). I was happy to leave, the place was dirty and they had only 4-5 TVs anyway.

i have been a fan of harrys now for about 4-5 yrs now. that being said i'm crossed between a 3 and a 4 star. some pros and cons Pros: good food, free parking, good bar, shuttle service to events is free Cons: shotty service - especially on game days/nights, i have never seen them offer a drink special, appetizer menu is lacking All in all its a good bar and grill for a downtown area lacking in that. For all you scaredy cats who won't take the short walk to woodward and the sports venues...man up!! The areas not that bad!
(4)Cherice J.
I love Harry's. I don't know why though. Maybe it's because I am always meeting up with my favorite people here, so I enjoy the atmosphere. It's a relatively medium-sized bar with lots of table and chairs. Everytime I go here it is usually during the week around 1pm, so it is actually pretty dead. The service is awesome, and the food is even better. I always get the Bellevue Burger from here, and my friend gets this Blackened Chicken Roll-Up. Because I only go during lunch hours, I don't really go too hard on the drinks. However, they do make a great Long Island.
(4)Keith M.
Great place to chill before during or after the game. Harry and Denise are super nice, and have done a great job with the place...it's not your dad Harry's THAT'S for sure!
(4)Tanya C.
I love this place. Parking always a breeze and seems very safe as the parking lot is fenced in, adjoining the building and usually attended. Food is standard bar fare, brunch exceptionally delicious. Drinks are well mixed and reasonably priced. I like it.
(5)Jamie D.
Personally, I liked Harry's better when it was more of a skid row dive. Now, it's sort of been converted into a sports bar/restaurant thingy. The food is better than passable, but the atmosphere is all over the map. Not quite shot-and-a-beer joint/not quite order-from-a-menu restaurant. You could do worse on your way to a Tiger game. Then again, you could do better.

My husband and I brought some friends here last night to watch the Wings game. We each had several beers, the fried pickles and spinach dip apps, and several of the burgers. I got the goat cheese burger and it was very fresh tasting and yummy. My husband got the patty melt with the smoked cheese. It scored big points too. The bar was about half full, if even, so we didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. Good place to watch the game, we'll be back.
(4)R M.
Really solid place. Food is always good. The staff is always attentive and on top of things. If you want some good food and beer before a game or a quick lunch this is your place.
(4)Bobblehead B.
What a classic old school big city sports bar. Food good, too. Near Comerica and Ford Field. Red Wings new rink will be a few blocks away. Great for pre-game Tigers festivities with the whole gang!!!! Highly recommended. Great place.
(4)Valerie E.
Free fenced in parking, free shuttle, great bartenders and quality food. Definitely recommend checking it out!
(5)Tina H.
great place to go before games or concerts. They have free parking and a free shuttle to any event going on downtown. The food is excellent and service is always great!!

I went to Harry's last weekend with my boyfriend for his birthday. The server was extremely nice and personable, but unfortunately that was the highlight of our experience. Luckily, service means a lot to us, so we would check it out. The other highlight was that his mac-n-cheese with chicken, he said was excellent, I'm currently GF so I didn't try it, but he swears by it. Other than that, the kitchen made my nachos incorrectly. Which is fine, things happen, but then when they came back out (after he had finished eating) they weren't worth the wait. I was super bummed because this was my one "cheat meal" of the week. They just weren't loaded, plain and the cheese was burnt. Oh well. We'll go back for shots, the service - waitstaff, and maybe try some other food. But I do not recommend the nachos.
(3)Joshua L.
Worst service ever. Arrived with only two people in the whole place and took the bartender/waitress 5 mins to come take our drink order. 10 more minutes pass til she comes back to takes our order finally and forgets what we ordered since she did not write it down. Ordered appetizers and waited 20 mins and she has not returned to even refill our drinks. Waited half our and finally just walked out. Never would I go here again.

I've driven past this place probably 100+ times and finally decided to stop. And I'm glad I did. What a perfect place to have a beer or TEN and bite to eat... LOL. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was cool and laid-back.
(5)Michael J.
Great Bar food! Comfortable atmosphere very nice people...The food is really a cut above your standard barfood, the wings, the burgers, fries - everything we had was really tasty and well done and fresh.
(4)Ashley H.
A great option before a Tigers game! They offer free parking and a free shuttle, although it's not that bad of a walk. They really don't have that many beers on tap, especially upstairs, but their food is pretty good. My husband and I split the jalapeño poppers, which are homemade instead of frozen from Sysco. I had a house salad and although some could probably enjoy that there was more cheese and bacon than lettuce, I did not. I had salmon, for which my husband made fun of me. He said, "No one orders salmon at a bar!" Maybe, but I checked with the server who said it's surprisingly good, and decided to be adventurous. It was so good! A generous piece was set atop a bed of sautéed spinach and mashed potato cakes. At the end our bill was pretty large, but I guess it all depends on what you order. And when you figure in that we saved at least $10 in parking, it becomes worth it for quality food.

There is nothing bad about this place.

Hamburgers and fried pickles are yummy!

Harry's is a must-stop spot on a warm summer's day when the Tigers are playing. They draw huge sports crowds - you can barely walk through the place on opening day. Lots of fun, if you're looking for that kind of thing. However, when I've visited on non-game days, it's usually pretty dead. I've never found the staff to be very personable, and the service, while not bad, is nothing to write home about. They have an ok selection of drafts, but you won't find much of the craft/local varities - it's mostly all the standard Bud, Miller, Labatt's, etc. Again, pretty much exactly what you need when out enjoying the game with friends. I haven't sampled a ton of their food menu, but I'm a sucker for a turkey reuben, and they have a good one. I like that I can get it with my choice of either sauerkraut or coleslaw. They use local Poletown seedless rye, and meat from Wigley's in Eastern Market. Onion rings are decent. Fries are of the thick, steak fry variety, which isn't really my preference. They have a small lot that offers free parking for game days, but the lot fills up fast so this offer really isn't as great as it sounds, cause you usually can't get a spot. Hit it up for the game. Or a reuben. Otherwise, head elsewhere.

The food stinks here! I would only come back here for the atmosphere and drinking and the fact it was the only place we could get into to before the World Series. The food was just terrible! We had jalapeno poppers which I were expecting deep fried balls with jalapeno and cream cheese inside..oh no...this was a greasy half jalapeno with cream cheese (maybe?) and bacon on top...noone liked it and we didn't even put a dent in them, that is a travesty!! I have never walked away from a popper before!! The nachos were doused with lettuce on top, other than that there was not much on them!! Little beans, little sour cream, no guacamole, it was just bad bad bad.. But they have local beer on draft, and when everything else is full, you can shove yourself on here, which is a plus right?

A couple of guys and I from work decided to come here before the red wings game because of the free parking and free shuttle.. We ordered spinach artichoke dip which was over cooked. I could have lifted it up with one chip lol. Good draft and bottle selection of beers and standard Liquor. My coworkers ordered a miller lite and a magic hat #9; I got the lagunitas pale ale...Mine was flat and tasted nothing like a pale ale.. Coworker with the #9 said he did not care for it either.. Asked waiter if we could get another one and he was cool about it, so we both ordered soft parade.. Tasted fine...Waiter asked how it was and I said good. He passes by a bit later and he said, "funny came from the same draft line"....lol so I guess I'm a liar now. We ended up leaving to go to the game and returned after the game cuz the guys wanted another beer before heading out.. There was a different bartender at this point and she was nice... I got a bottled beer instead of draft...I asked if I could get a sample of the lagunitas and it tasted as it should, so now at this point I'm definitely confused lol. They also have a pool table and few other bar games. Restroom was dirty (no soap or paper towels). I know that I didn't really try much of their food options, but at this point I'll try a new bar downtown Detroit has plenty.

Well, I read all the reviews and decided to give this place a try. BIG MISTAKE! My wife and I decided to try it for lunch on a Sunday. The food was pretty terrible. She had fish and chips. The oil was obviously burned and worn-out. I guess their question should be "would like some fish with that coating?"...simply awful. I had a turkey reuben. I guess it was decent. The bread was toasted and it tasted ok. The fries were horrible. Maybe the worst ever. The service was just some dude behind the bar coming over to the table. The place is just a dirty stinky bar. My advice, if you're going for the food - don't. I guess if you're just going to hang-out and have a beer, it may be ok. I won't waste my time going back - ever.
(1)Brad C.
It's fine, but they really don't do a good job of telling you what beers they have, nor do they have decent draft options. The patio deck has a really poor selection. Food takes forever. Staff is spotty.

If I was rating on the food it would be a three star place, if I was rating it on the drinks it again would earn 3. The reason I gave it 4 is because it really makes going to a tigers game that much more fun. Starting out here for an afternoon game is nothing short of perfect. It is a great spot to meet friends with free parking, reasonable drink prices, an above average bar menu, bus rides to Comerica park, and a nice little upstairs balcony/patio-ish thing. The atmosphere is what you would expect for pre-ball game in a bar... half-cocked and loud. If you are open minded enough to follow suit you'll do just fine at Harry's. My first time here was just a few weeks ago so I haven't been able to sample many of the food items. I ordered the Detroiter and my girlfriend ordered the Turkey club and both were very generously stacked sandwiches. Add a little franks on to either and they are bar fair supreme! I hope to take many fridays off in the near future for more trips to the game and to Harry's.

Free parking for customers going to the game - check Cool parking attendant - check Fairly fast bar service - check Reasonable prices - check Great beer list - check check Cool Tigers' Pregame Spot - check check check
(4)Mark H.
Went to Harry's before a Detroit FC game and not really knowing what to expect, came out pleasantly surprised. Harry's 2nd level "outdoor" deck had ample space to accommodate most revelers and overall, the ambiance was your typical authentic Detroit pub. 4 Stars.
(4)Amy N.
Free parking for customers going to a tigers game and great bloody Mary's. Chicken fingers and chimichanga dip were both top notch. Will def come here again.
(4)Tim J.
Great parking for football games. Eat before you get here. The fries are kept cold and congealed behind the bar in plastic tubs and they chip off a chunk of them to accompany your sandwich. Sandwiches are ok, but you can do better just about everywhere in the vicinity.
(1)Jamie W.
Where do I begin? Our party made a reservation only to have it given up to other customers. Our food order was terribly messed up and we were then told we short changed them by 50 dollars. It took an hour for our food. The next day I come to find I had been charged the full bill on my credit card as well as what I owed. The service was awful, the food was just okay, and there was no apology for the over 250 dollars that I won't get back for a week (hopefully!) Stay clear of this place.
(1)Virginia M.
What the heck happened to this place? The wait staff is just absolutely downright nasty and talk about no flexibility........GEEZ. The food and drinks too waaay too long to arrive and was subpar, at best. Convenient to go for games and that's about it.
(1)RE A.
Harrys is a nice place to stop for a beer and a burger if you're into a sports bar theme. the waitresses are NOT Friendly and the selection of beers is overpriced - most are unavailable unless they are domestic or on tap. mehh. The kitchen is the best thing about the operation. Burgers and Fish are Delicious. Pasta with Shrimp was a pleasant suprise. the coleslaw is not the best; But the fries are crispy and meaty. I'm a big fan of the Fish n Chips. Parking in their lot before any sports event in the D can be difficult if not impossible. best to get there before 5:30 if you want to get in before the place becomes a shuttlepoint to the game of the nite. they offer a special of free parking when you are going to a game, if you have a beer with them. that's great for those going to the game, but what about the folks who just want to come to the place to have a bite to eat ? that's one thing they need to consider, because their location and menu make this a must visit place in the city for burger and sports fans. they accept the Restaurant.com certificates with difficulty, but they took it finally. Handicapped parking can be difficult; as they have one space out of a full lot.
