Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

As a native Californian, I have had my fair share of authentic Mexican food, and in my opinion, El Taco Veloz is as good as I can find in the Detroit metro area. The primary reason is the meat. I feel like the meat is juicy and well seasoned. I would highly suggest the al pastor - its not listed on their new menu, but ask for it because they still have it. I would also highly recommend the chorizo. Al pastor and chorizo tacos con todo (con todo = cilantro and fresh onions) are the way to go! My friend tried the tripa and said it was delicious, I'm going to try that next time! Keep in mind - this is a taco truck, but there is a place to sit inside. You order at the taco truck window and just head on over inside, you will pay later on your way out. You can grab a soda drink if needed and there is some horchata as well, although it is not my favorite. Cool little place that never fails to hit the spot.

I lived in LA for 10 years and Veloz is right up there w some of the best Mexican I've had. I would recommend the Cabeza Torta. The Menudo was great. The Carne Asada burrito was heavenly. All the tacos were stellar as well. If you want something very authentic, this is the place for you. Go nuts.

Best taco's ever. Not to mention amazing customer service! My boyfriend and I pulled into the parking lot and had some how lost our money. We searched the car top to bottom. Only finding enough change for one taco. The cook must have watched us search the car or something and felt bad for us. He gave us four of the tastiest taco's I have ever had free of charge. I was blown away by their genuine kindness. A rarity in Detroit. Will definitely be going back again but will make sure I have enough money for food plus a big tip.

In the parking lot of a produce warehouse you will find the most authentic and best Mexican food in Southwest Detroit! I wanted to go somewhere that was not overrun by tourists, so I asked a friend that lives in the area where to go and they recommend me to try this place. I was very happy with my choice! It's a Mexican taco truck but with indoor seating behind it. We tried the torta de asado and some tacos de asado, delicious! Perfectly cooked bad fresh ingredients. It's a place where the locals go to eat. Definitely try it!

Wow, Nate D, you ate a Burro, and you were even contemplating eating two? It wasn't my understanding that this place served whole animals for consumption, but maybe you just have a great contact there (and you're really hungry). I'm not sure where anyone gets this whole "this is the best" thing from. My burrito was dry, wasn't cooked (nothing was hot and the cheese wasn't close to being melted), and was quite bland (even with their salsa added). The staff, however, were super nice, which is always positive.

When my cousin told me that there was this great place for tacos in Southwest I said, "Great, I want to go!" Little did I know he would lead me to an area with abandoned or little to no buildings and a lonley large parking lot. I thought to myself, "Am I going to die?" Well, the answer to that is yes, I did die. I died and went to taco, ceviche and horchata HEAVEN! It's a bit odd considering you order from the food truck outside and there is indoor seating in the building behind the truck. Drinks are located inside the building in the cold case or you can have the amazing life changing horchata. I got a small cup and my cousin told me to try it first to see if I liked it. I didn't try it until sitting down where I regretted getting the small and contemplated getting a larger cup but decided I didn't want to go into a diabetic coma. The food was brought over in about 5 minutes! They really live up to the "veloz" in their name. The fish ceviche was delicious and had a ton of lime. I couldn't put it down. I ordered the asado, barbacoa and tripe tacos. The barbacoa was the best I've had. Asado had more flavor and the tripe was tripe, nothing much to say about that. I wasn't able to finish my food there but it did reheat well at home. CASH ONLY!

Best tacos in Detroit, very authentic and a lot of flavor. Great costumer service. I love this place and recommend it to people that like real Mexican food

Don't come here expecting fast food. This is authentic Mexican street food ladies and gentlemen everything from tacos burritos and tortas. This is my favorite taco stand in Southwest Detroit, they even have a small makeshift dining area adjacent to the cooking stand, if you're looking for authentic Mexican street food this is your place.

I've heard about all these food trucks in Detroit but have never been to any. Last night I tried two Asada tacos and they were delicious! Hot, fresh, great taste and so reasonable on the price. I would come back again :)

I've been coming here since it opened. I refused to review it because a) This is a hidden gold mine that is targeted toward the local community and b) Its really good. Sometimes Yelping ruins places, and I hope this doesn't happen here. I too enjoy being first to review or the duke of a place but I really wanted this place to stay hidden. Oh well! The tacos are .50 to 1.00 more than most of the trucks, but you get grilled onions and inside place to sit and as with most of the trucks - awesome food.

Just attended a business networking event that was catered by these guys. The traditional Mexican style street tacos were excellent - great flavor and very fresh ingredients. They also had fresh grilled jalapenos to put on the tacos, which really took it to another level. I will definitely be stopping by their restaurant/food truck next I'm in Southwest D!

Talk about a diamond in the rough. Mind Brian S.'s review in noting that the taco truck is pushed back in a giant fenced-off parking lot. Also, this is a great truck to hit up during the winter as yes, there is in fact indoor seating. If you go inside the clandestine door of the building, you will walk into a restaurant-like space replete with booths, beverage refrigerador, horchata, salsas, and even bathrooms. Order your food at the truck - if it's "for here," you pay after you're done eating. They will bring it inside for you. The tacos are ROBUST! Packed fat and full of delicious meat. Also served with a side of tasty grilled onions and grilled jalepeno (watch out for the seeds! They are frickin' spicy). Apparently on the weekend they also have ceviche tostadas and something with shrimp. But my immune system has been on the fritz lately so I wanted to limit my mystery raw seafood intake. Total Average Taco Score: 8.25 (low 7 high 9) type: taco truck with auxiliary indoor eating space price: ? Sorry, I was taken here and fed without having to ante up! I's one lucky lady. 7 - atmosphere: The truck is in a parking lot and the restaurant area has definite wear and tear. You don't come here for atmosphere. 8 - SALSAS. Definitely grab the orange/brown one. Red and green also good though not mind blowing. Red or orange were the hottest but still light on the palate. 9 - carne asada (steak): my favorite of the bunch. flavorful. lean. moist without being oily. 8.5 - pollo (chicken): mmmm. moist. white meat. with a good flavor (not sure where it comes from as there is no sauce or grill or marinade visible on the meat). 8- chorizo: woo lawdy! salty like nobody's business! But tasty with a slight spice kick. Ground up. 7.5 - al pastor (pork): doused in flavor but also oil. bits were fatty and chewy (I'm a picky meat eater - my poor grandmother has an American for a grandchild, much to her dismay). Strong flavor but not as multi-layered as some marinated pastor can be. --------------- Notes for list: - I go in blind - no reviews no nothin' - just me and my own palate - parading down the Vernor Hwy strip (and some offshoots) - ranked out of 10: 10 being the best street tacos from Mexico (in small towns and big cities) - short and to the point: sorry, no fancy artful writing - a girl's gotta plow through these puppies!

Authentic, delicious and great variety! Best Mexican food in metro Detroit. Burritos are so tasty and the chicken quesadilla is great! 3 different sauces on the table make it absolutely delicious!

I'm ashamed to say that I never new this place existed. Who whould have guessed that Taco Truck parked in an industrial parking lot would actually have "brick and mortor" indoor seating behind it. Large tacos with all the standard toppings. I tried the cabeza which was very tender, but slightly on the bland side. The combo asada/chorizo taco was excellent with just the right mix with neither overpowering the other. The al pastor pork was also excellent. It had that moist, sweet taste the you can expect from good al pastor. I did think that all of their 3 sauces were on the whimpy side, neither of the 3 sent my tongue into overdrive. This is definitely a great place to try.

Some coworkers took me here today. It was fantastic. I had two chicken tacos ( I am not sure they had vegetarian options) and they were awesome. I really enjoyed the salsa that came in the tall bottle. It was smokey and tasted like it might have some adobe peppers in it. The tortillas were also great. Before you go there though, there are some things a person must know. First of all, I do not think any of the employees speak English. Also after ordering your tacos go and sit down in the warehouse next door to eat. When you are done eating, go back to the truck to pay. You won't receive a check, just tell the guy what you ordered. The food is pretty cheap. We had six tacos and one quesadilla with four bottled waters. Our total was only 18 dollors. Good deal for some super good tacos!

Maybe i had set my expections too high -or- maybe El Taco Veloz was experiencing an off day...whatver the case may be, the tacos were not THAT noteworthy : / Based on Brian's review, we probably should've ordered the burritos. Instead, we opted for tacos. Pollo, Chorizo, and Al Pastor, along with a side order of Jarritos (Tamarindo) to wash it all down. Now for the highlights of our meal: The fresh corn tortillas were fantastic! Each taco was $1.50, and they'e larger than your average-sized taco. I can usually down about 3-4 tacos, and i was good on just 2...did i eat two, of course not, i HAD to fit in a 3rd! The Al Pastor was my favorite. Tasty, juicy, and overall great! Now for my gripe, the Chorizo meat was absolutely aweful! You'd think the gray-ish hue would've been a red flag, but no, i HAD to try it. As for the Pollo (aka Chicken), the flavor was off. There was just something about the meat that tasted old : / Once was enough, i don't have any plans on going back to El Taco Veloz and to anyone curious about trying their tacos i'd say 'Keep driving'!

This is my favorite taco cart in the midwest. Hector and crew couldn't be more hospitable. The steak quesadilla is to die for.

I frequent the cart that's usually sitting on McGraw at Central Ave near my house. The burros are my favorite! I can barely eat two!
