If you want authentic Chinese food that makes you feel like your dining in a family owned restaurant that sits right off the Pacific Rim. Or how about a beautiful traditional ambience with soft music real silver and fine China. Well this place is none of the above. This is not to say by any means that the food isn't good. It's greasy, cheap and almost everything I've had has been pretty tasty. If you like crab in your crab rangoons, don't get these. These are more like cream cheese rangoons, but still they are very good. The almond chicken and gravy is always good. Though it's not a hard dish to make. The pepper stake is tender and it's a good meat to vegetable ratio. The spring rolls are also very, very tasty. They don't seem to be the nicest people. At times they actually seem short of patience and down right rude. The service though is very fast and the prices are great. I've never gotten to experience the lunch buffet but besides the fried chicken and French fries (which is a little weird even for Chinese American cuisine) I hear its a pretty good buffet. The diner is clean and allows you to eat without feeling like you need to spray disinfectant before you sit down. The bathrooms...unisex and very clean. If You want something good (properly greasy) Cheap and quick, this is definitely a good place to try.

China House is moderately mediocre, cheap, convenient Chinese food. $10 will net you lots of chicken, fried rice, and eight cream-cheese rangoons; enough for 3 average-person meals. Also, the free SODA (not "pop," silly Midwest)-if-you-show-your-student-ID thing is a big plus in my book. It is a good place to have near Wayne State and CCS. Inside there is ample seating, although it can get quite warm in there. The parking lot can feel fairly sketchy, but no issues thus far. Sweet n Sour chicken is strangely sour; I'd go with orange or something else if you are an Americanized-Chinese food enthusiast. Tai Hing, near Belle Isle, is better Chinese food but is PROPERLY sketchy, especially at night. If you need quick, cheap, decent food, China House will serve your needs quite nicely.

The good bad and ugly. Good for when you need a good greasy meal on the day after. Or if you only have a few bucks to spend on lunch. It's edible, and the main thing that it has going for itself is that it is uber cheap. I wouldn't recommend dining there, however, for take-out it's ok. There are several Chinese restaurants that I would pick over this establishment, but in a pinch, it does the trick.

Honestly this is the Chinese food that you get in a shopping mall. They had the large photos of the food and one set price on the menu. You food does not even come on a plate it comes in the carry out container even if you are eating it in. I had about a pound of broccoli in my food. Sure the veggies were fresh, so that was ok. But if I wanted a pound of broccoli I would have went to the farmers market. But honestly anyone who thinks to rate this as good Chinese food has never had enough money to eat anywhere else but McDonalds. As far as clean - the tables were covered in water spots. Sure they were wiped down, with a dirty rag. This is not even Chinese food, so if you want quick mall type food then this is ok if you are running around and just want to get something to eat quick. The ingredients were fresh. And for sit down. The seating was not even up to par with a Taco Bell. It is less than Coney Island style. More like sitting in a barbershop type of atmosphere. They have no air running on a hot day they opened the door... Service consists of the person who takes your order bringing the carry out containers to your (I wouldn't even call it a booth). And the zip code is 48201 not 48218 but the address is correct.

This is of course the Americanized chinese-food place; with General chicken, sesame , and orange, etc. No Hot Pot dishes here. They are very consistent with their dishes flavor. Their General chicken could use more of a kick; so when I go there I ask them to literally cook slices of ginger into my General (Tso's/Gao's; whatever you want to call it) chicken. There sesame chicken is probably their best fried chicken dish. There curry chicken doesn't use fried chicken but strip of chicken breast; if you are looking for a healthy alternative. (and it is good). You get your meals defaulted with fried rice. So remember to tell them you want white rice. Their white rice tastes better than their free vegetable fried rice. Though you can upgrade to shrimp fried rice (or other options). They have a really great lunch hour deal where you can get three different entrees of choice with rice. Though the dishes are pre-made in display at the 'buffet' table. This comes out to about $5; affordable. And you get a variety to enjoy. If you are not going for the 'buffet' and are going to order seaseme chicken during lunch hours: MAKE SURE that they DON'T fill it from the buffet table. Since it is pre-made from at-most a half-hour before, it might not crispy anymore. Purchase more than $5, then show your Wayne State ID and you get ONE free can of soda(yeah only one; even if you got two$6.50 dinner meals; believe me you won't be able to convince the cashier of the logic "you could have bought them separately"). So if you are with a friend, buy your meals separately and show your IDs. They sometimes have tea ready in one of those catering-sized coolers you can dispense from. It's free with your meal, but sometimes they don't' have it out. It is good hot tea. No idea how they manage it. The cashier-lady has that foreign-mother stare-down look upon her ALL THE TIME; just to warn people feint-at-heart. Don't let it intimidate you too much! Just a warning. I would blame it on her nature; but dealing with our Detroit demographic as customers, you could say we nurtured it in her. Overall a great place to eat for that cheap Americanized chinese food binging. Also, with my bias subjective feelings, this place is much better than Dynasty chinese food on the other side of Wayne State campus (and on the other side of warren). Same price-range, but better tasting food. Dynasty is better in presenting their food though. I don't know if this matters, but I don't feel like your expected to tip at this place. Though, if you feel you want to then go ahead.

Last night my boyfriend and I had just walked out of the Majestic Cafe (because we just weren't feeling it), and were driving around looking for something cheap to eat. We passed China House. I had my reservations. Not only was the food delicious, fast and cheap, but the place was so clean that we ate it there! We ate inside at a Chinese food place in Detroit. I never would've considered that before. The unisex bathroom was even SPOTLESS. I would've eaten in there! (Okay, not really, but it was really that clean). We were there for dinner, but it looks like they have a very affordable lunch menu as well. Hey Hamtramck, here's your new fav Chinese food place, just 2 exits down I-75. (Hamtramck has no Chinese food options, even when that hellhole of a restaurant at Campau and Caniff was open.)

This is the only Chinese food I've had in the neighborhood, so I'm not sure how it compares to others in the area. It's in a little ghetto shopping strip, but I liked what I had.

Ok, for what it is, this place is pretty good! I mean after a long weekend of partying, i'm always looking for a nice fatty greasy chinese meal on sunday nights to round out the weekend, and China House hit the spot! I don't feel like sunday night Chinese food needs to be super gourmet.....let's just call it like it is peeps. come on! We got the dinner specials; almond chicken and my bf got general tsao. they came with an egg roll and fried rice. We also ordered wonton soup and lo-mein (did i mention i love fatty meals on sunday nights?!)....the total bill was only ....$20!!!! The inside was super clean too, even though the shopping plaza where it's located is a little ghet, it was surprisingly well kept. I noticed they also had a lunch buffet for $4.70. you get three entrees, rice and a soda.....not bad! My only complaints are that they forgot my almond chicken sauce (a huge bummer) and the fried rice needed some salt or extra soy sauce. Other than that, its a new sunday grub staple for me! heyyyooo.

Delicious mandarine food and pleasant service makes this small stripmall take away ideal. Fast call ins. Good prices and consistency makes this a neighborhood favorite. they're open late, and always on holidays. you can depend on fresh veggies and fast take aways. This is more like New York style take away with a neighborhood twist. the prices are reasonable and portions are large. they aim to satisfy and will make substitutions no problem. You'll Always get Service With A Smile and a Thank You.

China House is the closest and most affordable Chinese restaurant for Wayne State University students, that actually has food worth getting. I know it's not gourmet, but the flavors are good and the portions are always great for the price. If you want somewhere to sit in and enjoy a full meal, go to Shangri-La a few blocks away. However, if you want to save $3 this is a good place to go.

My favorite thing about this place is they don't overcook the vegetables. Second favorite is they chop the veggies and meat in good bite sizes. We order pints and quarts instead of dinners. Food is consistent. Service is quick and always seemed very professional and courteous.

This family owned restaurant is a great place to stop by to grab something quick and easy. This is not a "traditional" Chinese food place, much more "americanized" The menu is pretty big and has about anything you could want. Everything is tasty, cheap and you get a lot of food for your money. I often end up making two meals out of one order. Going there for lunch for the buffet is your best bet. $6 gets you 3 decent scoops of various menu items, rice, a drink, and an egg roll. That aside, the sweetnsour chicken, general tso, and beefnbrolloci dishes are great, and if you have the time DEFINITELY try their steamed dumplings Students: bring you student I.d and get a free soda with your meal

If you want traditional Chinese, then you will not be impressed. If you want hi-quality stuff, nope. If you want Americanized Chinese food, then come! It's a buffet. And as we know with buffet, the food is cooked in giant batches and we know what happens when you have quantity over quality... That and the mediocre Chinese food are the only negatives about this place. I mean, I never expected a Chinese restaurant to serve french fries. However, this is a really good place to eat! I think buffet is around 14$ a person and there is SO much to choose from. From Sesame Chicken, Egg Rolls and Fried Rice to Fried Chicken, French Fries and Cobbler! It's a "eat your heart you" joint... with just a bit more class. You dont wanna come in here wearing a t-shirt and shorts or anything like that. But you dont wanna wear a tie either. It's a nice place with good decor!

This aint show friends this is show business. Something similar could be said about this restaurant. These people will not be nice to you, or smile at you but i dont go there for the laughs I go there for the delicious food. Excellent American style take out Chinese place. Generous portions and low prices! Highly recommend.

Maybe I was a little harsh on my last review. I decided to come back because...well, nothing else was open, lol. I ordered the almond chicken and while it was decent, the gravy was not good at all. The service is still pretty bad, their English is horrible, but hey, it's a Chinese joint in an "up and coming" area. It is what it is.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
