I love this place. The food is very reasonably priced, and it's really good. Whatever you could want is on the menu (except for tamales which are only made on Thursday and Friday). Every time I've ever eaten here the service has been excellent, and quick. As expected, lunch time this fast service slows down, but not to the point where it's painful to wait for a taco. If you're in the mood for breakfast, put down that crappy breakfast sandwich and stop in for huevos rancheros.

Portions are a little on the smaller side for what you are paying but it's still a pretty good steak burrito. The salsas are what make the difference here, great variety. Wish they had jamaica & horchata but good jaritos selection.

Came in for lunch. I had a burrito bowl. It was ten dollars and everything was from a can and it had the fake orange rice. The steak was dry as all get out, and the only fresh topping was lettuce and a slice of avocado. The guac was decent and the chip were good. But, overall if a chipotle was next door this place would be out of business tomorrow. Not worth the money or the stomach ache.

Great Quesadillas served here. The food is fresh, cheap and the staff friendly. Defenetly recommend this place

The best tacos you can get downtown but they're on the pricey side cashing in on those Quicken employees who cram in at lunchtime. Decent owners, they made me wait for a long time then made it right with a free lunch the next day. Solid.

It was decent. Had lunch for about $7 w 3 Steak Tacos and a darn good Chicken Tostada. The salsa bar is nice. Plenty to choose from. The atmosphere is generic and service is a tad slow but friendly. It is fairly clean but the girl wiping things down looked like she did not care. We will go back but hope they realize they have a chance to be really good w some tweaks.

I ordered the loaded nachos which came with all the fixings, and topped with chicken, beef and shrimp. as soon as I open my carryout container what do I see ? ALL THE SHRIMP WERE STILL LOADED WITH POOP ! I'LL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN, FOOD ISNT ALL THAT ANYWAY...

Got sick off of it. Have had it for lunch on a few occasions. Usually get the Mexican-style tacos. Although the food tastes pretty good and is affordable, the quality of the meat is pretty bunk. At the end of the day, I simply don't trust it. I won't be going back there unless I am desperate.

My wait during the lunch rush was about 25 minutes... for a single burrito. Also, if you order a "vegetarian burrito grande," be aware that they're just going to give you a tortilla with vegetables in it. No rice, no beans. Not exactly worth $6.

This place is perfect for the area and has a lot to offer. Once they speed up, I plan to head back and try it again.

Mediocre at best. Poor decor, poorly trained staff, and not so fresh food that i ended up tossing into trash rater than finish. Could be worse, but should be a lot better.

Great lunch specials. The tacos are as authentic as you can get. Try the tamarin drink if they have it available. The only thing they could do better is stay open later. Speaking of hours.. Drop in for breakfast.

Service is a little faster and they have added a breezeway blocker to the front door. Its not very effective but I am impressed that they have put some effort into correcting a problem that drains the entire store of heat every time someone opens the door. They also recently added a soda fountain, nice touch. As much as I like glass bottle coke, its a little expensive for my taste. The chicken (diced) taco meat is a little dry but still good. I enjoy the Chorizo tacos the most so far.

Went in again the other day because of the weather didn't want to walk outside. Well, the chicken improved but there was a dark HAIR in my lunch! UGH Will this place ever get it right???

I wanted to love this place but really ended up a tad disappointed. I will try again but with a different choice. I chose the taco combo with one each of the marinated chicken, carne asada and carnita. This comes with a side of rice and refried beans. and you can't beat the price of $6.35 (including tax). The beans were good, the rice was not. The rice had the strangest color, almost a neon tangerine and tasted a little strange but that could just be my taste buds refusing to eat anything that color. The chicken taco also had a strange color to the meat (diner gravy yellow) and tasted strongly of bullion. I didn't care for it. The carnita taco was good. The marinated steak taco was okay. I loved their salsa bar, so many choices and fresh lime wedges. I liked the mild red and green choices. Very flavorful and added a lot to the tacos. Next time I think I will try the quesadilla... Fast and friendly service and today they were even giving free samples.

This place is pricey and the food is "Meh. I've experienced better". If you have access to a car at lunch, I would just drive down to Mexican town instead. They are very slow during lunch time. The Spanish rice was dissappointing!!

Really Happy that Detroit FINALLY has a good authentic Mexican Restaurant!! I have been there twice & the first day was crazy busy... but the second time was ALOT smoother. They are new so its going to take awhile to get the kinks out! I had there taco combo...YUMMY!! The food is definitely worth it!!

So Happy! Detroit needs a great lunch place like this. Even better is that its the same as the Carnival Fresh Market in Pontiac which has a restaurant in it. Both are amazing! Quick, fast, fresh, and the friendliest people.

Service was really slow when they first opened but they seem to have everything running more smoothly. Food is great. Chicken is probably the most flavorful chicken I've had at a Mexican restaurant.

Carnival FRESH Mex ~ amazingly delicious!!!! I was there opening day & the beef taco I ordered was scrumptious! I also ordered the fancy fries (i forgot the exact name) & my kids loved them! My girlfriend ordered the taco salad which looked soooooo good & she said it was yummy too :) The prices are very reasonable too! I am so happy that Carnival Fresh Mex has come to Detroit, its exactly what the city needs! I will be back for my "Mexican fix"! Way to go ~ 2 thumbs up :)

Since Carnival Fresh Mex has opened, I have heard mixed reviews and wanted to decide for myself to try it. I had the 3 taco combo which comes with rice and beans and I ordered beef as the meat. The prices were very reasonable. The combo was $5.99 ($6.35 with tax). I didn't realize it wasn't ground beef but shredded beef which was fine. The beans and the rice were delicious but the tacos were not great. The corn tortilla was dry and the beef didn't have any flavor even with the salsa I used. Also, reading previous reviews, since I work in the building, I can just walk downstairs at any time and decided to come down a little earlier to beat the rush. I was downstairs at 11:20am and I was in and out within 5 minutes. They looked like they were still training people and adjusting to the new environment. The one thing that I disliked was smelling like fried food after leaving. They need better ventilation. As I said, I was only in there several minutes but the smell definitely stuck to you. All in all, I will give Carnival Fresh Mex another chance but if the next time fails, I'll probably just hop over to Rio Wraps in the Dime Building.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
