GREAT sandwich! Decent size, awesome taste, fast, and reasonably priced for an airport. $13 for a full combo

My second time coming to Earl of Sandwich. First time in Anaheim, CA at Downtown Disney. This shop at the airport did not disappoint! My Earl Club Sandwich was so so good! Perfect before the flight to Arizona. The ingredients were fresh and the bread is some of the best I've ever had on a sandwich! The girl working there was by herself, but she was busting her butt to get the sandwiches out hot and ready! Great job girl, this San D-A-Gon was hungry! As far as foodies go, not to shabby for airport food, and GREAT PRICE!

I really enjoy this place, and about 1pm every Friday afternoon you can find me... standing in line... Veggie Sandwich, no onions, toasted... and scoop the bread! The manager and several the employees always greet me... they might not know my name, but they all know my sandwich! This is a quick deli meal, and everything I have had has been very good! If you think you are getting gourmet in 3 1/2 minutes at the airport, you will be disappointed. If you want a very good sandwich, made quickly by very nice people... skip the heavy pasta meal and stop here! To know your product and be consistent counts! 4 Solid Stars

Are you kidding me?!!!This place has the worst service ever!! I tried to grab a quick sandwich before my flight but My order was never filled. Without a doubt the slowest most incompetent staff I've ever seen. Rude and surly. Watch how many people buy the sandwich but walk off with chips and drink without paying! Never again!!! I'm going back on my word. I'll be in Detroit 2 weeks from now. I'll check out Earl's and see if any improvements have been made. I received a note from the corporate office telling me to contact the franchise owner, which I did in an email. Not surprisingly, NO RESPONSE! Do these people not care? I'm predicting watching the unfortunate patrons who dine here stealing the chips and drinks. Always a fun way to spend time at Detroit Metro. Check back with me in October for the continuing saga.

Been to other locations (in las vegas and orlando), usually pretty tasty sandwiches, good customer service skills and good prices.. Not this time, watched the girl making my pastrami sandwich wipe the cutting board with bread that the sandwich was going on. Then put my sandwich next to the rag used to wipe the cutting board. When I asked about getting another piece of bread due to unsanitary conditions, the girl gave me attitude stating "this is normal conditions, and we clean cutting board at the end of the night". I have worked in the kitchen restaurants in the past and definitely thought it was unsanitary, just didnt understand the attitude. Got my refund and just avoided a future stomach ache.

There are very limited food options at the Detroit Metro Airport, so among the limited options The Earl of Sandwich stands out as a pretty good option. The sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich are made to order which makes them 100X better than the sandwiches at Le Petit Bistro. I also liked that the tomatoes here are freshly sliced and the lettuce was romaine rather than shredded iceberg. The toasted Earl's Club ($6.85) was surprisingly delicious! The sandwich came with turkey, thin slices of bacon, melted Swiss cheese, thick slices of tomatoes, and lettuce. I asked for honey dijon instead of the "sandwich sauce" (aka thousand island) and it was a great compliment to the other fixings. As other reviewers have noted, the hot sandwiches are on the smaller side - close in size to about a 6-inch sandwich at Subway. Also, the beverages are not very cold since they're in an open refrigerated section (rather than a fridge). I'd recommend picking up a cold beverage elsewhere.

The egg and cheese sandwich I ordered, which I am in desperate need of since I have the hangover from He-double L, was completely inedible!!! The place is kind of a mess with ordering and as stated earlier I am in no kind of state today. Everyone was just kind of standing around in no discernible line and it took a while to figure out when it was my turn. I'm giving this place two stars only because the staff was quick and friendly once I got to place my order. Other than that it was a major bust! The sandwich, though I hesitate to call it that because that would imply that it could actually be eaten, was a greasy mess. The cheese was nonexistent. Without it I was left with, what can only described as, an egg 'patty'. Sandwiched between a rock hard bun and swimming in grease, the egg patty was absolutely disgusting. Two bites later it was in the trash and my tummy is still rumbly...

It was OK. Possibly the better choice in airport food. most airport food tastes nothing like what it claims to be and usually makes me sick. This morning I had a long flight ahead and very little time during my layover so I decided I needed to eat. I got their Club and it was decent. I would stop again if in a pinch and saw one of these at an airport with no better options in sight.

I first discovered Earl in Las Vegas. I was impressed. A huge brigade of people pumping out some decent quality sandwiches at reasonable prices. I think we ate there 3 times in our 4 days. Now to Detroit metro for breakfast. Well, let's sum it up with this... I was initially ignored (no one else there) and then after a wait, they greeted me and I ordered. First, although not listed anywhere, I watch as they start slathering mayo om my breakfast sandwich. Wtf? Next, the bacon on the bacon egg and cheese... bacon bits.. and not even high quality bacon bits?! Needless to say it was a messy, unimpressive disaster. Is this what Earl has become? Lame...

"Who likes the thrill of air travel?" Yeah I do like the sandwiches here --- but mostly because there is nothing else at this end of the airport. The sandwiches were at least made some time today and are filled with some tasty things. Selection of course is much smaller than a regular outlet. What I hate though is basically paying double vs. what you'd pay outside of the airport and like triple for a drink. Service staff seems very disappointed to be working here.

I'd love to have this spot in my home airport. Their sandwiches are very good and priced really nicely. My sandwich was only about $7 and that's awesome for an airport.
(5)Jeremia F.
Here in the Detroit airport this is a decent option for a sammich. I most recently had a bacon egg, cheese sammich here and wasn't blown away but wasn't dissappointed. What would have made this a holy cow this is way worth it momment, would have been if they wouldn't have been so stingy on the ham on this sammich, it was only one super thin strip.
(3)Vi M.
One of the BEST veggie sandwiches I have had. They didn't just slap together veggies and serve it on bread. They added a sauce and toasted the bread to perfection. My only complaint was that it was a small sandwich for $7.49, but since it's in an airport I guess that is expected.
(4)Kate F.
In the food court between gates D26 and D27. Fast, hot, delicious and inexpensive- $7.69 with tax for a sandwich with kettle chips.
(5)Seth R.
This morning I ordered a simple Egg and Cheese Breakfast sandwich. In all honesty it was terrible. I paid around $6.50 for it, took ONE bite and wrapped it back up and placed it in the trash. I should say that I am NOT a picky eater. But this sandwich was barely edible. Sorry....it was awful.

I've only had Earl of Sandwich one other place - the Downtown Disney district in Anaheim - and the hot sandwiches were delicious. However, I was picking up a sandwich at 7am here so I would have something to eat later during a long plane ride, so I had to settle for a cold, premade sandwich. I picked up a Smoked Turkey, Bacon, and Avocado for an airport-reasonable $6.95 My sandwich was sadly missing both avocado and bacon. It was multigrain bread, smoked turkey, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I'm upset. Not cool, Earl of Sandwich. Not cool. But I was flying over Colorado by the time I found out so I was out of luck. However, I can say the bread and turkey were delicious. In the same way that the buttercream frosting is delicious on a cake that was baked without sugar.

Horrific service. The food is great, but the attitude of the staff and the failures I saw in the 25 minutes it took to get my sandwich were enough for me to ban all earl of sandwich sandwiches for life. There were 3 people at this shop, me included. They made the first guy's order twice. They made the second woman's order with tomatoes, then picked them off with their fingernails for the second person. Then, after a second group of customers showed up and I realized none of the 5 sandwiches made for the first two people were mine, I complained. My sandwich was made after the new group of customers' sandwiches. 25 minutes to slap meat, cheese, and sauce on a bun and warm it. Go here if you are like me and have 3 hours to kill at the terminal. An hour for the sandwich and 2 hours to publicly shame them on social media.

Great airport hot sandwich(the original #2). Tried this place in planet Hollywood Vegas a few months ago it was a great six doller sandwich then and even better here-trust me on this
(5)Jon G.
The Earl of Sandwich invented the sandwich and that's why you should eat here. Their breakfast BLT is so good, sometimes I consider buying a plane ticket just so I can eat there. Just kidding, but seriously - go to the north terminal if you can and eat here. Great for any meal, and cheaper than the pre-packed sandwiches at the random airport stores.
(5)Jason H.
Airport prices, aka $8.69 for an egg and cheese sandwich and a bottle of water. It was alright, just the kind of sustinance I needed at 5 in the morning.
(3)Amy G.
I have heard of Earl of Sandwich being in SoCal and have wanted to try it ever since, so was delighted to find it in the Detroit Metro Airport of all places. My friend and I split the Full Montagu and the Earl's Club sandwich, with cheese on the side for both sammies for my needs. The Full Montagu includes beef and turkey with all the regular sandwich stuff, and the Club includes turkey and bacon with their "sandwich sauce," which I'm assuming is some combo including mayo. I noticed that the mustard on the Montagu was rather sweet, which is interesting, though not bad. The sandwiches were very hot coming out of the toaster. I really liked the artisan bread, which was soft and fresh-tasting and is such an upgrade from regular sliced bread. Good dinner for ~$6!
(4)D'Brickashaw J.
It serves it's purpose of airport food just exceeding mediocre, but the name was the best part. They didn't offer enough non dairy choices for me. Thusly, I be fartin and stinkin the damn plane up every time I go.
(3)Matt V.
Had the Original (Roast beef with cheddar and horseradish) and OH SHIT! was it fuc#*ng good! Who would have thought you could get a delicious sandwich in a damn airport? And Detroit no less? Went to the Earl of Sandwich in Vegas last year and I'd say the sandwich at this airport was better.
(5)Sarah M.
Holy cow! Even though I usually only review restaurants in or around Glendale, I'm making an exception. This is some of the best airport food I've ever had. It's like, a whole other class of dining experince than the Chezburger at the Burbank airport. Who knew that a simple toasted sandwich from the US Air/Southwest terminal at the Detroit Airport could be so good? The service was a bit slow and I don't think that any of the sandwich artists seemed particularly happy with his/her work, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. Also, it's in a nice area where you can chill out and check flight times. Get yourself a sammie here and you will not regret it.
(4)Richard M.
Not to many choices at the Detroit airport so I decided on Earl's. I ordered the original, which consisted of roast beef, cheddar cheese and horseradish. It was very good but not filling. I ended up going down and buying a snack and book. I would recommend to ask the employees to wash their hands before they start on your order. I had to remind the guy making mine.
(3)Jordan S.
I had never heard of the place and I couldn't decide what I wanted during a recent trip and I had not eaten before my flight. I ordered the Italian sandwich it was on delectable bread with lots of capicola, salami, and peperoni. It was warmed up and served. I was still hungry afterwords and for $8 for a sandwich I should be nearly full if not full. They serve breakfast as well I would recommend this place without a doubt.. Enjoi_

Great sandwiches if you're looking for food at DTW.
(4)Steve K.
Rude and disappointing. I've been to other Earl of Sandwich and they've all had good service and great food. This one had neither. The store only has some of the hot sandwiches found at other EoS. I found this out when I asked the girl helping us if they had the Signature Hawaiian BBQ, her response was a curt, "No". The kind of no where the person treats you like an idiot for even asking. After the rudeness I opted to not get anything. My girlfriend got the "ham n' swiss" which was luke warm. I would skip this EoS especially if it is your first time so as not to ruin the experience.
(1)Harrison L.
I decided to eat here when my flight was delayed for a couple of hours and I had nothing else to do to kill the time. I was in north terminal which is somewhat limited in its food choices. I ordered the classic. The cheddar melted smoothly onto the beef and the horseradish sauce brought it all together very nicely. Although it is not a big sandwich it will run you about $7 but considering eating options are scarce at North Terminal, is the best option.
(3)Nicole W.
At "the end" of the airport - terminal D I went with ham and cheese- beware there are absolutely no veggies on the bad boy - all cheese (melty) and ham and a hunk of bread. tasty, but not exactly what I was craving. Staff definitely would rather be doing anything else but serving you!
(3)Emily L.
I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because decent airport food is hard to find. The good: the sandwiches are really tasty. I had the Full Montagu, which is "roasted beef, turkey, swiss, sharp cheddar, tomato, and mustard sauce." The sandwich comes in a crusty ciabatta-type bread and is toasted in an oven so that the cheese is kinda melted. There's a combo deal where you can get a bag of chips with the sandwich. The food here is way tastier than at Le Petit Bistro, which is also in the North terminal. The bad: The sandwiches are pretty small. I didn't get a bag of chips and was still hungry after I devoured my sandwich. I ate an apple and maybe 1/4 cup of trail mix afterwards and felt better. I don't think I would be able to eat two sandwiches, but hearty eaters probably could. I think 1.5 sandwiches would have been perfect for me. Another thing that annoyed me was that the drinks in the cooler were not very cold. My bottled water was maybe slightly cooler than room temp. The bottled drinks at the newspaper/magazine stores are colder. Also, keep in mind that these sandwiches will take 2-5 minutes for them to make because (1) they're made to order, (2) the employees are not the fastest, (3) the sandwiches have to go through the oven, and (4) there could be other customers ahead of you.
(4)Patrick T.
Sandwiches are hot and tasty. It's tucked away at the end of the D gates, but worth the walk.
(4)Dana L.
I hate thunderstorms for a variety of reasons, 3. scares the p out of my cat...... really 2. flooded roads and slow traffic 1. number one on my list....messes with air travel. Not an issue when I am at home looking for the cat, but when sitting at DTW's North terminal waiting for a long delayed American flight to Texas, I really hate them Now the review... I try to avoid airport food, usually not good for the waistline, But during this long delay, my breakfast yogurt was a distant memory . After studying the menu I chose the All American with Turkey, cheddar cheese, cranberries, lettuce, tomato & ranch dressing . All in all a pretty good toasted sandwich... I think I would get the ranch on the side next time.. a little heavy handed for my taste. So when stuck at DTW North Terminal... walk past the Micky D's and head to the Earl's
(4)Alisa Z.
Decent place to go if you're forced to eat at the airport. I had the Full Montagu, which was hot and pretty good.
(4)Morris N.
I was at DTW mid afternoon waiting for my flight and skipped lunch so decided to checkout this sandwich joint. Although their menu is not overly extensive, they do have a good variety of different sandwiches. I tried the ham and cheese which was really good. That, a bag of chips, and bottled water set me back $12 which I suppose isn't bad for an airport.

Earl of Sandwich was the last "thing" I interacted with during my brief stay in Michigan and I want to thank the already digested "all American sandwich" for the extra pounds around my waist. No regrets. My friend and I had spare time before boarding our flights and we were looking around the airport to engage in "last minute Michigan blasty blast fun time" before heading our separate ways. Of course, theres nothing particularly fun at the airport other than eating, but all the other delis and restaurants we checked out were too overpriced, had limited menus, and were too overcrowded so we ventured ALLLL the way to the end where Earl of Sandwich was standing by its lonely self. We felt bad for the Earl, who had no customers, so we decided to do some fine dining there. I didn't come with too much expectations because my stomach was already bloated with too much fun and good food in Michigan, but I believe I got the "all American sandwich" and my friend ordered a cold pre-made salad. For some reason, Earl of Sandwich doesn't list the sandwich that I had on their website menu so I don't remember all the ingredients that were in it (give me a break.. it was 3 months ago) but I remember it had cranberry jam? paste? in it! It was so HOT, FRESH, and GOOD. I felt like I was eating Thanksgiving crammed into one bite. Usually I try to stay away from weird combinations like fruits inside my sandwich or cheddar cheese on top of my white rice but this weird concoction of fruit and other sandwich goodies blended in pretty well. I just wish they would have more chains! I heard that the Earl is coming soon in downtown Disney in Anaheim, so when I finally get to try the sandwich out, I'll confirm to see if downtown Disney is indeed, the happiest place on Earth.
(5)Byoung Kyu S.
Sandwich here is super tasty. The portions are not huge but still large enough to definite;y fill you up. I think the sandwiches ranged from $7-$9. They offer both cold and hot sandwiches. The hot sandwiches are made to order and go through a conveyor belt to be cooked. If you are flying out of DTW and need to grab a quick bite to eat or carry-on a sandwich, this is a great place. It's located right next to the AA Terminal.
(4)Chess R.
Was looking for something before we got on our plane to Miami. This was the best Sandwich I have EVER had. Wish they had them in Ohio!
(5)Hemang D.
I travel through DTW every week. I frequent this place every monday morning as I pick up my brunch on my way out and on every Friday for my late lunch. It is on terminal D, close Gate D26 in a well lit corner. They have excellent service and the Caribbean Jerk Chicken sandwich is just awesome. The sandwich is well worth the price hike from a standard subway sandwich. I rarely order chicken in sandwiches or pizza, however this place does a nice flavorful Jerk chicken sandwich with some banana pepper rings which really brings out the jerk sauce marinated chicken. I highly recommend this for any traveler willing to spend about 8-10 bucks for a great healthy lunch.
(5)Andre P.
Fast and affordable It's hard to find something decent to eat at the airport. Long lines, mediocre food and overpriced. This place offers none of that. I had the Original 1762 and it was a tasty oven grilled sandwich at a reasonable price. I would definitely eat here again when traveling through DTW.
(5)Renee E.
Ok, it's hilarious that I ate at a place called Earl of Sandwich, but what can I say...I was at the Detroit airport crazy early in the morning and breakfast was calling me. I had a bacon, egg, cheese situation that could've been terrible, but...wasn't! I am an anomaly in that I normally HATE toasted sandwiches, but this sandwich was actually very pleasant. The bread (which I also tend to not eat was delicious.) I also got a big kick out of the sweet lady working the counter. We had quite the chat.
(4)Susan M.
I was very surprised I liked this place so much. I am a picky eater and this place looked like my best option. It was really clean and used fresh deli sliced meats. I got the roast beef and it was the perfect temp and made to order just the way I wanted. Staff was helpful and if I'm in this side of the airport again I will def be back.
(5)J R.
They don't skimp on meat on there sandwiches. Good value for your dollar. Can sometimes be a little grumpy in the morning. They will open when they are darned good and ready, but not more than 5 minutes late or so.
