Delicious Food. Friendly Staff. Neat and clean place. I brought my family and friends. The best part is they offer us free Kheer.....

One of the only Indian places in Dearborn. Portion sizes are large and the food is flavorful and cooked to order. I would steer away from the naan. It seemed like it was not baked in a clay oven as it should be and very bland. The atmosphere is as if it is a Coney Island, so you will not get the full experience. Order carry out without naan and you'll be golden.

First off, the atmosphere is pretty pathetic. This isn't the place to take your nice date! It's like a coney island inside. The service was also something to be desired- and we were the only ones there! The young kid who was serving us forgot one of our orders- which the chef promptly corrected. And considering we were the only ones in the restaurant, he wasn't very attentive. I think he just needs practice. The food; however, was good. We had a tandoori chicken, shrimp masala, vegetarian chickpea something or other and a some other chicken dish that was good. The samosas were huge and not what I was expecting, but good. Prices were fair, though I think at this price point, the ambiance should be better. And turn off the TV's!

Tried to go today but it doesn't open until 11:30. In Dearborn if your not open at 10:30 for lunch don't bother! Sorry I would love a great Indian resteraunt but can't wait for it to open.

Went there for lunch today to get the buffet with my colleague (from Indian). We had the lunch buffet. OK, so I understand the place is small but that did not bother me one bit because there was enough seats for everyone. What was bad was the food. It really tasted bad, they had lamb curry which was just totally meshed up. The chicken kaboob was too salty. I am not picky when it comes to Indian buffet but for $10 a person, the small samplings they have should taste good which it certainly did not. Even the basmati rice was bland & undercook. Not good.

I am so glad that there is finally an Indian restaurant near me. The service of this place was just ok ish. The waiter didn't seem to understand my meal questions and I had a lot. I ordered the lamb curry and the chicken curry which was served with rice and nan and shared between my friend and I. We really enjoyed the meal. I agree that the nan could be better as in the other reviews. The one thing that was out of this world good was the Mango Lassi holy hell that was yummy!!!!

Worst Indian restaurant I have ever eaten. DO NOT GO, BAD food, terrible service, waste of time, money and dining experience.
(1)Ron W.
Ordered from here several times over the past year. Food was ok to good at times. Tonight's carry out left a lot to be desired. The garlic naan didn't have any garlic and was hard ... Nothing like any naan I have ever ordered before. The Biryani was bland lacking as well as the Vindaloo. This seals it for me, I won't be back.

I was super excited to see the first Indian restaurant open in Dearborn since that awful Peacock restaurant closed 5+ years ago, so I planned a dinner there last night. Most of the other reviews here are spot-on. Being in an old coney island, the kitchen looks like a short order kitchen and is exposed to the diners. The ambiance doesn't scream "India" to me, but ultimately I go to a restaurant for the food. The food is where the experience really shined! We started with the samosas. I ordered the Shrimp Masala; my companion ordered the Lamb Vindaloo. We also ordered the garlic naan. The samosas were spicier than any other I've had; for me, this is a plus. They were full of flavor, soft and tender on the inside, nice and crispy on the outside. The Shrimp Masala was phenomenal. My companion loved the Vindaloo. Both portions were generous, but being hungry, we took no prisoners and didn't need a doggie bag. :) The naan was good, but as another reviewer mentioned, there isn't a strong garlic flavor to it. It was soft and worked great for scooping up the delicious gravy on both of our entrees, though. It seems from the other Yelp reviews that this place has a problem with service; fortunately, we didn't experience it. The server was polite, even if the conversations he started with the table were a bit awkward. Drink refills came often, the food came out piping hot, and a gentleman who I presume is the cook and/or manager stopped by the table twice to check on our experience. There are only two reasons for four stars instead of five. First, the value - the meals, at $12 and $14, were more expensive than most other places I'm used to, and that didn't include naan. Second was the decor of the restaurant. I love some of the Indian restaurants in Farmington Hills and Canton, but honestly I would put Maharaja up there in terms of food quality, and for me it's a five minute drive versus half an hour. Definitely stop in and give it a try! I'm hankering to test out their lunch buffet now.

Let me start off by writing something positive about this place: 1) The only Indian Rest. you would find in W. Dearborn...Finally! 2) They serve both veg/nonveg items 3) Carry out - Yes Now, some negative points: 1) Kinda off overpriced buffet with hardly five-six items on the menu 2) Food is OK, not up to the mark (unable to figure out the taste) 3) Service is slow 4) Place is small I know this place is recently opened but I think this place would eventually turn out to be a good Indian food joint! They just need more time to grow....
(3)Reyna H.
Really delicious carry out! Butter chicken was great, yogurt was the perfect texture, lamb biryani had really moist lamb and well seasoned rice! Only disappointment was $12 chicken tandoori and opening a box of three drumsticks :/ Other than that, great food!
(4)Ajay V.
Unbelievably bad. Absolute crap.. I never knew Indian food could be made to taste this bad. Here's what they do - they buy frozen Indian food from Costco's equivalent for Indian food, fry it in old oil that they reuse to save costs, add some spice and serve it to you. Since most Americans don't know how exactly the food is supposed to taste, they are tricked by the taste of final bit of spice added to the food. If you want heart attack served in a plate, this is the place to go! Otherwise, steer clear of this block. Your stomach will thank you. Trust me.. I was born in India and live in Ann Arbor. I've tasted real Indian food that isn't meant to kill its consumers. Cheers.

So far I'm delighted with this place. Has that struggling new biz charm. Ambience is lacking for sure but hoping as the place grows they they will create some. Greeted kindly & order was taken right away for carry out. While waiting, I was brought a chai without asking. So nice! (And delicious). Food was ready quickly and all 3 vegetarian dishes were fantastic. Hurray for great Indian food in Dearborn!

Ok. I had some doubts about trying this place based on some of the other reviews. But I'm glad I did. 1. The staff was friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered the building. 2. The restaurant was well lit and clean. 3. The butter chicken was good...thinner than I'm used to...but still very good. Slightly sweet and spicy. 4. The garlic naan smelled fabulous but it lacked some flavor to be honest. I think I would skip the naan next time. 5. The portion size seemed a bit small for $12 but I still got 2 meals out of it. Due to weight loss surgery I don't eat a lot at one time. 6. I ordered take-out and they were speedy about getting my order up and even sent me packing with a fork :) I would definitely go back and am glad to have an indian restaurant close to home. So far my all time fav for indian food is Ashoka in Canton however thats quite a hike for me. So, I'll be sticking with Maharaja. :)
(4)Kelly L.
Excellent! Just excellent! Was very happy to have something so good so close to home. I was delightedly satisfied by the muttar paneer and the butter chicken was perfect! Everyone i dined with loved what they got and everything tasted fresh. You eat on real silverware unlike some indian places that alone gets them 5 stars. Keep up the great work (they've only been open 2 weeks)
(5)Wendy C.
Thank goodness finally there is an Indian restaurant in west Dearborn. It was packed at lunch time, despite being in its first week of operation when we went. This is a small place so there is only one serving station for lunch time buffet, relatively small selection but everything was fresh.

I'm very picky when it comes to Finding a good Indian food. In my opinion it was pretty darn good. The service was good, everyone seemed nice, the inside could look nicer but maybe in time. I tried the mango lassi which was delicious!! Butter chicken and chicken tikka both had a nice spicy kick to it. The samosas were good but they give you so little. The naan was alright nothing special. Overall I would probably come here again! Pretty good experience for a place in Dearborn ;)
(4)John R.
First time here. We had a couple chicken dishes, 14 and 17 on the menu. They were delicious !! Had a cup of their traditional soup that might be my favorite now. So good. Friendly service. I'm coming back!!

In my opinion, Maharaja is one of the greatest additions to the Dearborn area in a long time. In addition to the large Middle Eastern population, there's also a large Indian population due to the automotive industry around the Dearborn area. Being a non-Indian, I think the food is awesome, but to have the natives tell me it's good, it makes me even more excited about going back. I think my favorite item there is the samosas. Those are the pyramid shaped "pouches" (think empanadas at Mexican restaurants) filled with all sort of veggie goodness (peas, potatoes, etc). My favorite part is that it's somewhat spicy, it was a pleasant surprise. The main course options are pretty standard, but neither of us were disappointed with what we got. My husband got a Shrimp dish, and I was surprised at the size of shrimp they used. I was expecting tiny shrimp, but they could almost be classified as prawns. The garlic naan was nothing to really write home about. For garlic naan, it wasn't very garlicky. I am very excited to go back.

Tried again today but randomly they are not open. Not even a sign. Is it because of Ramadan? Who knows!

I was on a business trip and imagine my pleasant surprise when the hotel showed me a list of restaurants that included an Indian restaurant 2 miles away. You need to get good directions first. The place is at a 90 degree angle to Michigan Avenue so you're bound to drive past it. They have free parking. I sat down and I should immediately have left. There were three other parties of people in the place and none of them were Indian. Big clue: If you go to a specialty restaurant and you don't see anyone from that part of the world, it's because they don't like the food there. Next mistake: I order two meals with the intent of taking my navrattan korma back with me to the hotel as a late night or middle of the night snack. My vindaloo didn't look like any vindaloo that I'd eaten before. It looked like someone had copied a recipe from yahoo answers or some other site where anyone can post anything. It had lamb, it had potatoes, and some gravy but Indian it was not. My korma was equally un-Indian and nothing like anything I'd seen before. Only the naan was nice, they probably got it from Kroger. I left my slightly eaten korma on the table. It wasn't worth the effort in boxing it up. It looked like some frozen vegetables had been covered with some sauce from a can from a supermarket. If your gut tells you that the place isn't good, then leave before you order. And don't order two meals before you see what the first one tastes like. That was my mistake. There was nothing wrong with the food. It was not burnt. It was not old and moldy. It was not served on a dirty plate or anything like that. It just wasn't Indian. I felt like I'd wasted $27 plus tip. I'd rate this as my worst Indian food ever. Sorry to be so negative. See my other reviews. I average between three and four starts for my reviews.

Ate here for the first time today, the decor was plain, it still looks like the Coney Island that used to be here but the staff was nice. Had the Butter Chicken, Basmati Rice, Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Tikka. It was all delicious but not as good as Taj cuisine in Garden City. The Naan bread was flat and lacked that char flavor you can only get from a Tandoori oven but none the less this place is worth checking out, considering it's the only Indian restaurant in Dearborn...
(3)Eddie S.
Smallish, aromatic, and the constant din of Bangra music from the TV in the back. It's perfect Indian restaurant accoutrement. Staffed by a happy and thoughtful staff it was a fantastic experience I'm already planning on repeating. Butter chicken, veg korma, channa masala, samosas all top notch. The only reason 4 stars and not 5. The Naan. A little flat and disappointing. Tasted good just a texture issue. If you prefer full menu available for take away. Highly recommend. Salam.
(4)Denise A.
Good food. Can't go wrong with a chicken curry dish and Garlic Naan. Good price for the amount you get, no more then $12 usually. Nice location in Dearborn and walking distance if you want ice cream or a long island!
(4)Maureen S.
Stopped in here the other day for dinner with my husband. It is a small, very casual place. Almost seems like a diner. Everything is cooked to order (you can see them do it) and everything tasted fresh. We had a chicken dish and a lamb dish. There wasn't a ton of lamb meat in the lamb dish, but what was there was good. We also had the garlic naan which was tasty. Naan seems to be always pretty oily but this wasn't too bad in that regard. Service was friendly, helpful, and very relaxed. I'm super excited to have found this little neighborhood gem.
(5)Jarrod M.
While the food at this establishment is excellent, the service is rather lacking. If you'd really like to experience the food here I'd suggest either going during buffet hours or just ordering out.
(2)Donna S.
The food is delicious, tasteful and fresh!! And that was the buffet!!! The employees were friendly and Courteous, will be coming back!!

I didn't exactly eat here. I went in a couple days ago with a friend, and the restaurant only had two tables occupied. We went at 12:00, 30 minutes after the buffett opened. They had a very small selection of items, close to the door. The Samosa's looked small and dry. The other items were out - with two people waiting, plates in hand. We walked out. I can understand one or two items being empty, but almost everything?

I tried the lunch buffet on April 6, 2015. There was no other diners at the time and it may be early around 11.30 A.M. The number of items were minimal compared to other Indian restaurants. Most of the curries were watery and tasteless. The lamb curry had only bones and no meat. Tandoori chicken was not great either. The chicken curry is very watery. The Naan was nothing but a pan fried PITA bread. The two items that are worth a positive mention are the Samosas and the Okra curry. I will not visit this place again. It seems like a Pakistani family run joint with an Indian name. The two women who were cooking and in the kitchen came out, took another table and started dining too. That makes the crowd bigger to three. The charge is $10.54 including taxes which is not worth paying for the food served. This place will close or change hands in the next six months. This restaurant fits to be on the show Restaurant Impossible. If you visit them after reading this review you deserve what you are going to get. Be Warned.

We were there during a slow time. Food is ok. I ordered the chili dilli chicken. Said crispy but it wasnt. The service was terrible. My mother asked for lemon 3 times. 10 minutes after the 3rd time asking he came up from the back and his naked hand dropped 3 slices of lime in a saucer and brought it to the table. This gentleman's service was as if we were wasting his time. I may consider carryout but that might waste my time.
(2)Raghavendra K.
Utterly disappointed with the food. No word to describe the quality of the lunch buffet. Over priced for the number of items on the menu. The food is absolutely disgusting. The worst Indian restaurant I have been to in the USA period!!!
(1)D D.
I really wanted to like this place, honestly. I love Indian food and wanted to find a place where I could get lunch beyond the norm in Dearborn. I ordered the Chilli Dilly chicken and ended up feeding it to the trashcan. Very unappealing texture and smell. Sorry, you're not the Indian food I was hoping for.
(2)Ak S.
These guys have no respect, they swear yell and dont listen to customers questions and respond with"i dont know english" the food was good months ago but the new chef makes food so bad you would think he did it on purpose. Save your stomach and self respect, dont go here.
(1)Sarah G.
It's the only option for Indian food in Dearborn, as far as I'm aware. The food is just okay. It's not nearly as good as other Indian restaurants in Canton (Ashoka) or Ann Arbor (Shalimar, Taste of India Suvai, or Raja Rani). But, since it's the only restaurant in Dearborn that has Indian food, I'll keep going back.
(3)Joe T.
I gave this place 4 stars because I think it has promise, and is staffed by REAL Northern indian/Punjabi/Pakistani people. I never asked where they were from in detail, but the food they serve is strictly native to that area. Nothing from South India. I have been waiting for years for a real Indian restaurant near my home, and now it has arrived! It really bugs me when the local arabic community tries to open restaurants in West Dearborn that claim to be authentic, but are not. It never works out. Any time this happens, the restaurants just fold because the locals know better. I am glad this restaurant does not fall into that category. Pros: - Staff is very friendly and attentive. Dressed properly. Prompt service, but we went there when the place was nearly empty in the off hours. One individual had difficulty speaking and understanding English, but I'd rather see this than a white girl 18 yr old waitress who knows nothing about the food she is serving. - Restaurant was clean. No hint of grime or dirt. I did not use the bathroom, so cannot comment - Food was good. Surprisingly very good. I tried the two different soups and they were excellent perfect flavor proportions and nothing overpowering. I could have filled up on the soup alone. Butter chicken rivals other places I have eaten at in Ann Arbor. Lots of flavor. Nothing was bland. Portions were large. Chicken tasted tender and well seasoned. Did not try dessert. Prices were average. Not too expensive but not Coney Island. Portion sizes justify price. Cons: - Restaurant ambience was not the best. They did little to redecorate since the previous Coney was there. Did not give you the feeling that you were in an authentic indian restaurant. Kitchen was in the front, unfortunately. As I said, they did very little to remodel the place since the last occupant was there. Dishes and center tables were cheap feeling. - When couples go to an indian restaurant, it is preferred that they don't have to watch loud Indian pop music videos (Very bizarre videos, mind you). Big turn off. How about no TV and some traditional Indian music? It would help. A lot. - Two members of the staff (young guys) were eating large plates of gravy-laden food with their hands at a table. That's right, no utensils. I recognize that cultural differences exist in the world, but it made my girlfriend uneasy and to be honest, I have never seen any indian restaurant where people ate with their hands. I would have preferred that we did not see what we saw. I recommend that if staff are going to do that, they do it out of site. - One older staff member was removing his sandals and putting on socks and shoes in plain sight near our table. Again, I realize culture differences play a role, but this time, that grossed me out. No one wants to look at old man feet when they are eating. - I had a garlic naan. It was tasty, but a little on the soft side. I did not see a proper clay oven for properly baking naan. I think the first thing they need to do is get a clay oven so that the Naan are authentic. I am thinking they were using the griddle to produce their breads. - Menu selection is small. Conclusion: The place has promise. Most important is the quality of the food, and I was impressed, having doubts about whether to try the place out originally. I think Maharaja will thrive in West Dearborn. Eventually I expect they will remodel, adopt some of the American etiquette all established restaurants tend to have, and continually expand/improve upon the menu. I will overlook a few of the cons as long as they don't become common occurrences. I recommend you try the place out. If this restaurant was around for a while, I would have only given 3 stars, but since they are just starting up, they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
