Buddy's has the best pizza in Michigan, and is on the short list for best pizza in the U.S. Not kidding. Not exaggerating. It really is that good. If that's all you need to know, you can stop right here. I'd never been to the Dearborn location before yesterday (My family went to the one in Livonia for years), it carries the banner just as well, with the great service and great pizza I've loved since I was a kid. I didn't know how good I had it until I left Michigan. Since then I've traveled all over the U.S. and had pizza in many, many places, New York and Chicago among them. You could call me a pizza connoisseur, because when most people graduated college and became less enthusiastic about pizza, I never did. There's a lot of good pizza and some great pizza out there and Buddy's is solidly in the latter category. We tried a new pizza called "The Detroiter" yesterday with tomato basil sauce, pepperoni, and three cheeses in addition to our usual ground beef and feta cheese and Italian sausage and pepperoni. All were great, but the tomato basil sauce was particularly good. The salads were also just as good as always. Buddy's food hasn't changed much in 30 years, but it doesn't need to.

I'm from Buffalo and I must say that we know a good pizza place when we taste it. Buddy's Pizza is one of the best in Dearborn, and I've tried so many pizza places here. My only criticism is that their pizza seems less like a true pizza and more like an amazing breadstick with pizza sauce drizzled on top.

Sure, you see a lot of good reviews for this place , and maybe I came on a bad day but our food was pretty bad. The veggie appetizer was good, but we got the Mac and cheese with chicken on top, and it was dry and just overcooked and the Greek pizza was bland too. Just no flavor, there was 4 pieces of spinach on the whole pizza! Not to mention we were seated right by the patio door, which every time it was opened, our straw wrappers and napkins, and silverware wrap flew everywhere! I won't be returning. Ever.

I had Buddys Detroiter pizza and buddy bread for the first time ever the other night. Kinda weird considering I've lived in Dearborn for 2.5 years now and went to UMD. ANYWAYS, it is pretty pricey for pizza but definitely worth it. $21 for a large Detroiter which was 8 pieces. It reminded me of Nikis pizza in Greektown which I LOVE. The Detroiter was good and I liked the sauce on top. Buddy bread was excellent, too, it reminds me of Little Caesars breadsticks but 10x better. I would have to say this was good, and I would definitely return.

Good food. Great carry out! Our family has enjoyed this place for years. Parking can be tight and dining in is sometimes busy. But the food is always good and the service is great too.

B/d party surprise for hubbies 60th! 14 guests four of which were children. It was a combination of pizzas salads hors d'oeuvres pop and ice tea. No one ordered alcohol the bill came to $135 including 18 percent tip I rounded up. They gave us the private room which was nice so the kids could walk around the food and service was excellent and uhLala the atmosphere was great. They told us we could bring a cake in and they would serve it but it would have to be bakery ordered or bought from a store we could not bring in a homemade cake. You can get coupons for buddy's off of your phone. I would definitely come back and plan future parties here.

This Tuesday afternoon was a real treat for me. I got to meet one of my favorite Detroit area Yelpers, Allison F. and I got to try some Detroit style pizza for the first time. Allison was craving their lasagna and I wanted some local style pizza so Buddy's was the obvious place to go. We started off with the fresh bread sticks with the house made marinara sauce which were right out of the oven. I ordered a mushroom pizza which was very good but different. Detroit style pizza is nothing like central Ohio style pizza. It's square and it's cut into squares so you "Wedge Cut" folks may just want to avoid this place all together. The only way I could describe it is that It's like a giant flat bread stick with the toppings put on it - the wrong way. Confused? OK. So you take thick buttery soft bread dough, add the toppings first, cheese second and then the sauce on top. Yeah, it's set up backwards and it's a little strange but it is really good. Don't ask me why, I just rolled with it... So long story short, good food, good company and a fun slightly kitschy ambiance made this a great place to check out.

Pizza and salad great combo. Different toppings taste delicious. Veggie people don't worry your not alone

Buddy's is a Detroit staple in pizza. I frequent this Dearborn location and live their Sicilian style thin crust pizza. The spicy tomato sauce is delectable and made in house. The multitude of available pizza toppings is overwhelming but they offer a wonderful selection of suggestions for delicious pizza pies.

Went to Buddys on NW Highway as a kid and I had memories that were sorta "blah". It was always super dark, super crowded and the pizza was crazy-thick (I've been a thin-cruster since birth). Took my familiy here after The Henry Ford museum (right down the street!) and I was really surprised. This location is bright and airy, not overly crowded (at lunch) and the pizza was great! Tons of great options that never existed before including a really good thinner crust pie. Great service too. We'll be going back again without a doubt.

I went to the airport to retrieve some family members from a trip to Disney in Florida. By the time they arrived at Detroit Metro, they were hungry. Well, I knew of a few places in Dearborn that were on the way home, so we cruised Michigan Avenue, looking for one particular restaurant. Someone spied Buddy's, and remembering the original Buddy's that I used to visit years ago, I immediately turned around and found parking in the lot out back. After feeding the parking meter, it was time to feed our faces. Our server was Corey H. She did a great job of taking care of us while we dined. Our drinks arrived quickly, allowing us to peruse the menu while sipping on refreshments. We had enough people in our party to order 2 pizzas, taking spare slices home for future dining. We ordered a breaded and fried cauliflower-zucchini-mushroom appetizer, appropriately named the Veggie Sampler. The little guy ordered a Kid Mostaccioli and chocolate milk. After ordering a 4 square Meat Deluxe and an 8 square Detroiter, the appetizer arrived and we sampled favorite pieces. Shortly thereafter, the pizzas were delivered. Everything was delicious, and yes, we took some pizza home. I made a trip to the restroom, and noticed the dining room was filled with tables of families, kids included. They also have a separate door for take-out orders. Military discount - 25%. Thank you, Buddy's!!

This was our first time here. Staff was friendly. We ordered the Buddy's Garlic Bread w/cheese for an appetizer and it was nothing special. The pizza we ordered was the Greek + artichoke hearts, and it was really delicious! Our only thought was that it was a tad bit pricey, but all in all we will definitely be going back so we can try all the great pizzas on their menu.

I've craved this square pie since January. I come to Detroit for the Tiger opener and this pizza. It is square with great tasting crust, great sauce, and one of the best I've ever had. Do yourself good and stop by for bottom line great pie!

Do you ever get some food that, as soon as you take the first bite, a smile appears on your face? That was my pizza expereince with Buddy's. I was in town for work and decided I had to try this 'Detroit-style' pizza. I'm a big fan of Chicago style, so didn't know what to expect. This was delicious - buttery, crispy crust, really flavorful cheese, and somehow not to heavy (I ate way more than I intended). Will definitely be back.

The Minn-a-strone....perfect. Pizza, always good. Service, swell. My pick, start with a beer of your choosing. Order the soup. Get a pizza with fresh garlic, mushroom, and sausage or pepperoni....get extra sauce. Do that and tell me how it was.....I'll reply, "You're welcome"

  • Rola S.

Ordered a mushroom square, not enough mushrooms on for my liking. Place is super busy and the smell of the food as we're waiting patiently is madness. Carb heaven and cheese breadsticks,,,perfection. Also need the pizza to be a little more well done. No one likes to eat dough.

Dammit I haven't been here in a long time. I came here after a day at the Henry Ford Museum with my date and his kids, and let me tell you, I had some kind of flashback. I didn't realize I had been here before in 2006 and it took me a minute to remember coming here. For starters, this place is on Michigan Avenue in a really cute part of Dearborn, and while it's not my go to Buddy's location, it still rocks the house. We came here on a Saturday afternoon absolutely famished, and we walked out stuffed, happy and feeling like we could continue on with life after ingesting such goodness. In one sense, this place is clean and nice, and resembles a lot of the other Buddy's that I have been to over the years. Great menu selection, friendly staff and a great bar area when you walk in. We went with a greek salad, a pizza, and one of the kids ended up getting cheese ravioli. His ravioli looked delicious and he said he loved it. High 5 for that! Halfway through the meal I finally looked around and that's when I had my moment of flashback. I looked over the booth at the windows, and realized the last time I was here was in August of 2006 during my first visit home from Arizona. I sat near the window with an ex boyfriend, hashing out the details of why we broke up. I hadn't seen him in several years, and it was kind of an overdue conversation that we both needed to have. I remember like it was yesterday, and it must have shown on my face. Having to rehash the past, and talk about things gone by. I remember where I was at that point in life and wonder how things have changed since then. (both for the good and bad.) It was really reflective and nice to come here and reminisce. The server did a really good job, and we were happy overall. Food was good, and we sat and talked for a good long time about the fun we had just had walking through a museum that is a slice in history. Kind of like this Buddy's. A slice in history.... Anyways, I always seem to have good luck in this part of town, except with the parking situation here. What's with that? The parking lot here is tight and small, and more then likely your going to have to park in front of a meter, or worse yet, on the street in front of a meter. I don't blame buddy's for this, but I can imagine if I lived on this side of town, it would really impact my decision to come to this location or not due to the ease of getting in and out. Especially in the wintertime. Who wants to circle and park while having AND walk in the cold? eeehhh maybe not. Overall I would gladly return to this location in the future. You just can't go wrong with Buddys!

Totally awesome food! Love the pizza and the bacon cheese fries were the best I've ever had. The 8 square was huge - too much for just two. We would have been fine with the 4 square. Also loved the free bread - they were actually garlic breadsticks. Yummy! Will definitely come back the next time we are visiting the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village.

Some of the best pies known to man, but they are pricey. I've never had a bad meal in this place, and most of the time have better than average service. The pies come in 4-slice squares, which is fine, but I wish it was cut into smaller pieces. These are one of the few pies that I can't sit down and demolish, instead it has to be eaten slowly. The buddy's bread is to die for!

*Disclosure: went here during a blogger trip recently. I've been to Buddy's in Farmington Hills and also the takeout location in Royal Oak, but this location was cheery and welcoming - I liked it a lot. It seemed a bit more updated than the FH location, as well. We ordered a round of Buddy bread for the table, which was good, and then I ordered the Lake Superior pizza, which has pepperoni and other toppings. Another blogger friend ordered the Lake Huron and they served it to me - I didn't really care for the cheese blend, but then another waiter straightened it out and I got mine, which I liked. Next time I'd say hold the pine nuts, though, as it gave it kind of a nutty taste. I also split a cream puff for dessert with another blogger, and it was DELICIOUS. She was Canadian and had never had a cream puff before, and she enjoyed it as well. I'd recommend this location - good food and service.

Good pizza, good cheese sticks, fair price. Service is so-so as they forgot to either enter or bring out our appetizer before the pizza. She was quite busy though so I give her a pass this time around.

Went here twice in the past two days and great experience both times. Nathan and Ruth were our servers and both were excellent. Always on top of things and fast service. The antipasto salad is amazing - I could just eat that and nothing else! The 4 square pizza was perfect for 3 people and "The Detroiter" rocked. Great job Buddy's!

We ate here during a recent stay in Dearborn. We ordered the antipasto salad and Detroiter pizza, and both were so delicious. The service was good, too, despite it being really busy.

I love Buddy's pizza. I wish they'd open one in Houston so I don't have to smuggle pizza back in my carryon, but I always enjoy some "Detroit style" pizza when I come home. If you live in the area and haven't been to Buddy's yet, go! Be ready, it's not a 5 dollar hot and ready price, but the perfect buttery crisp of the crust, the excellent quality dough, and the fun toppings and specialty pizzas (pine nuts are an amazing pizza topping...who knew?) ...worth the price. There is often a wait if you go in the evening, but it's worth it. The place is casual and delicious, and they serve drinks too. This isn't my usual location, but had a 3 or 4 hour layover at DTW and decided to hang out in the area instead of the airport. Got picked up and spent some time on the outside patio enjoying some Founder's beer and delicious pizza. May have been my best layover yet! And someone please overnight me a square pizza to Houston. ...I can almost taste it.......

Best pizza I've ever eaten. Got 5 bucks off with a ticket from the henry ford. Had an 8 piece with half onions, cauliflower, cilantro. Wife had pepperoni, pineapple, onion. We both raved about it.

Sooooo good!!! Amazing selection of pizza toppings. Unreal crust. The family size salad is a great appetizer as well as the meatballs.

Buddy's started as a "hole in the wall" pizza place with a bar in a working class section of Detroit. Over the years, that section of Detroit unfortunately followed a lot of the rest of Detroit and sunk into poverty. Buddy's expanded to other locations - and the one in Dearborn is closest to where I grew up. Even when they were in a shaky neighborhood - people would come from miles around. The neighborhood now is strong. The deep dish pizza is the only way to go. That's what Buddy's is known for. Perfectly crisp crust; cooked through and through. Cheese on top melted thoroughly, but not burnt. I don't live in the Detroit area now - but nearly every time I go back to visit - I'll stop at Buddy's. There's no place like it in Detroit. And, heck, I live in the Chicago area (known for deep dish pizza) and Buddy's would be unique here. The sauce is on top of the cheese vs. underneath - and the crust (with the crispness) is not Chicago style.

I hadn't been here in a while, but it seems like they have a few new pizzas, like the chicken fajita? I am a huge fan of the Detroiter: Cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, topped with shaved parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend. It's just pepperoni pizza but way better. Also, if embarrassing birthday singing isn't your thing, they don't do that; they just quietly bring you free ice cream.

In town for business and ended up stuck in Dearborn. After doing some searching, Buddy's kept coming up so I decided to finally check it. Their bbq chicken pizza omg may be one of the best I've ever had. Everything was perfect about it but the sauce is def the highlight. Sweet with a slight kick& the crust was perfect as well. I love that we walked in literally 5min before they closed, yet the food was still perfectly cooked, not rushed or slopped together. They didn't have a crazy beer selection but I did get to try some local breweries. Excellent #food & service experience.

This is by far the best f****** pizza that has ever existed! I'm serious. I live two hours away so I can't eat there often. I think about Buddy's Pizza everyday. The Hawaiian is my Favorite.

I worked at Buddy's through high school and college. I have not been here in such a long time and when a co worker from out of town started asking about the best Pizza, I became very excited to bring him here. The Dearborn location would not be my first choice but it is the closest to the airport. Its a nice building and location, but Conant is Conant. The very first thing I notice as I'm reviewing the menu, is that I'm old and prices have gone up substantially from what I remember. No problem, I have coupons from their site: buddyspizza.com/document… I couldn't help but to start ordering all the foods I missed. The table now filled with way too much food including the best chicken strips, fries, bread sticks, antipasto and pizza. Washing all this down with 3 dollar pints of Killians is making me forget that its 1 degree out. Just when we though we couldn't eat another bite, I order a Sanders hot fudge ice cream puff. We didn't make it through 1/2 the food, including leaving quite a bit of the desert, but I have nice assortment of carryout boxes filled with this awesome assortment.

Ordered a pizza and salad for take out while staying at a local hotel. Yelped and read some of the reviews and wasn't disappointed. I went online and printed off coupons. I ordered the family combo. It came with an 8 slice square pie and a huge Greek salad! The pizza was great! Lots of sauce, the cheese was tasty and the ingredients seemed really fresh. The crust was nice and crunchy and greasy, kind of like Pizza Hut pan pizza style. The salad was great! Lots of feta cheese, olives, onions, tomatoes and beets!!! Who knew? I would defiantly go back if ever in town again. Cheers!

My wife, a native of the Detroit area, was insisting that I try Buddy's Restaurant should we ever get the opportunity to do so. So, when family matters necessitated her return to Michigan (with myself in tow), the opportunity presented itself. Needless to say, the wife has good taste. Buddy's was a huge hit. Everyone else in the area must've thought the same thing too - because this place was crowded. The restaurant was beaming with Detroit pride - Red Wings, Lions, Tigers, Pistons... it was all represented on the walls of this establishment. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt with our food orders. We started with the fried ravioli. Very tasty. The Detroiter pizza was amazing too - cheese, pepperoni, tomato basil sauce, shaved parmesan, and a Sicilian spice blend. This was definitely one of the better pizzas I've eaten in my life. Oh, and the dessert - a hot fudge crème puff (made with Sanders Fudge)... well, I suppose that speaks for itself, really. Delicious. Not a bad outing at all, if I may say so - though the waitress probably would've had to wheel me out of the place if I dared to eat one more bite.

Wow. What a sad surprise. First time at this location. I felt like going light today and ordered a Caesar Salad topped with turkey and a slice of pizza. Look Buddy, if you're going to serve 5- 6 ounces of overly chopped lettuce of indeterminate type (maybe Romaine maybe not?) and no Caesar dressing with a few scrawny strands of luncheon meat tossed on top, please don't call that a Caesar Salad. That is NOT a Caesar salad. I have never ever had a worse Caesar Salad. I could not eat it. So, I ordered a slice of cheese pizza from carryout. There was no cheese on the cheese pizza. There was a silver dollar sized circle of red sauce on what was basically fried bread. That's not pizza, Buddy. Last time. Final answer. No kidding.

This is seriously the best pizza in Michigan! This place cannot be beat! I love the Detroiter. So yummy! The sauce, the cheese... everything! Anytime I'm in the mood for some seriously delicious pizza this is my spot! Some of the reviews I've read complained about the decor and ambiance... its a pizza place lol. Thats the last thing you should be worried about. It's not a fancy restaurant. Just a place with amazing pizza, its clean and the decor fits the place in my opinion. It is a little tight and on Fridays and Saturdays this place gets super busy so we try to get there around 5 or 6. But if you have not tried Buddy's, please don't hesitate. And make sure to get the square Detroiter. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you, Buddy's Dearborn! You did a fantastic job with our Maulers Hockey team and party of 40 on 1/17/2015! We pre-ordered our dinner by Jersey Numbers and when we arrived, we were seated immediately. Our food arrivedi hot and oh, so, delicious! Everyone was impressed and the service was outstanding! Thank you again!

If you are looking for GOOD gluten free pizza, then this is the place! They make their own pizza dough, so no Udi's frozen! Sorry Udi's. The crust is kind of thick, crispy edges, chewy texture. The toppings are great! You can tell the pizza sauce is fresh from Roma tomatoes. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the Detroit area! Service was awesome too! Ryan was great and very attentive!

Love Buddy's! They are wonderful for gluten-free customers, trained & knowledgable about celiac disease. The GF pizza rocks, but my favorite is the antipasto salad. I'm obsessed. Before I had my celiac diagnosis, I used to order the Mac & cheese and the broccoli cheddar soup, which are both also amazing. Parking at this location isn't the greatest though.

I love Buddy's. They're the reason I will never be skinny. The Detroiter is my favorite and I think I could eat a whole basket of Buddy Bread by myself. Our waitress, Erika, was very friendly and attentive last night. We didn't have to wait long for our food either.

Great food, decent beer selection. Liquor as well. Great, friendly staff. Gluten free pizza was excellent even if thick crust! (I'm a thin crust lover usually) Clean and relaxing environment. Several TVs to watch sports games. No audio. Milk shake was good but not anything special.

Wow! 500 trips into a Buddy's and I tried something different and new(to me). My brother-in-law was here from Texas for the holidays. He mentioned before he goes back he had to have a Buddy's pizza , not only because he likes them but because he was reading in TEXAS that Buddy's was in the top ten in the country! We secured the big round table in the back near the kitchen. Nice location as it is enclosed on three sides and a little quieter. I like all the chatter but when you're in a larger group it's nice to hear what 's going on in your group. Okay first my favorite usual was ordered, the antipasto salad, chicken strips(best anywhere). These were the usual fantastic with the house red wine vinagar and virgin oil dressing. We ordered, my brother-in-law and I an eight square pepperoni, italian sausage and onion. They delivered, outstanding. Now for the new. A few of us arrived earlier than the others. So we ordered the Buddy's bread. I thought I was going to get their basket of rolls and butter, but to my surprise they were delicious breadsticks glazed with garlic butter and parmisian cheese. Very good. Now I have to get these next time I go to a Buddy's. Then my daughter ordered the gluten free pepperoni pizza. It is a small thin crusted pizza. Well I had to try it just to see how it was and she offered(I took) me a slice. Not bad! I probably won't order one for myself but if you're into gluten free this seemed like a great choice. The usual great Buddy's dining experience.

Since I was in the Detroit area, I had to try "Detroit-style" pizza. After some research I found that Buddy's (although not this particular site) was the originator. I ordered an order of garlic bread and a 4 square "Detroiter" pizza. I found both items to be very good. Specifically the pizza was very good. I thought the sauce especially was very good - a little sweeter than I'm used to, but still very tasty. This is a place I would definitely try again if I am ever back in the Detroit area.

My Son who used to live here recommended us to go here. We decided on Pizza and I got a Small/dinner Salad. The bummer was my salad wasn't nothing that they advertise on their menu. No Onion, Cucumber, Garbonzo Beans and no Croutons. Also they advertise Tomatoes....I got one grape Tomato...really ??....you couldn't give me 2....is the budget that tight ? A handful of Iceberg lettuce with a teaspoon of shredded carrots and one grape Tomato wasn't worth $6 . I'm just not the kind of person who will make a big deal of such a matter to the waitress but it bothers me. Our 2 topping Pizza was very good tasting , really like the dough they use and how they cook it makes the outside cheese crispy. Service was very friendly and prompt. We agreed we would stop again but I need to get over speaking up.

Buddy's is another entry in the unique pizza culture of Southeast Michigan. This sauce-on-top style is known for tall, airy crusts and bread, with a smattering of delicious fresh toppings and sauce on top. I love their Hawaiian and Sicilian square pizzas. Their salads and breadsticks are great starters as well.

  • Daron D.

When you are talking about square pizza, there is no better place period than Buddy's pizza. Came here on a Saturday (be prepare for a hour wait, it was packed in there) and had their antipasto salad (really good, kind of reminds me of hungry Howie salad) to start. For pizza I had the meat deluxe (really good) and the Detroiter (probably my favorite of the two, it was pepperoni, motor city cheese bland, and spices, similar to a Sicilian pizza). They also have $3.50 tall domestic beers and $5 premium beers, which to me is pretty good for beer prices (not the best, but way ahead of a lot of places). Overall, if you call yourself a pizza lover or just want pizza, then Buddy is a must try and must have.

Service was friendly if inattentive, especially for a snowy Thursday night. Chicken tenders with the ribs sauce are very, very good. I had the Super Pizza, a bestseller. It was mediocre at best, not very flavorful considering the ingredients. They put the sauce on top of the cheese here, and if you like sauce, ask for extra as not much is on there.

I'm just the IT guy and taste tester. My wife writes all the cools stuff When we go visit my parents in Michigan, we usually try to go to Buddy's Pizza. Growing up, my family would go to Buddy's for special occasions. This "first of its kind" Detroit style pizza is deep-dish-like baked in rectangular pans and cut into square pieces. The crust is about ¾ inch thick, but has a wonderfully buttery flavor and is super moist, but not at all soggy. The edges get nice and crisp and the remainder of the pizza slice is soft and fluffy. The toppings are generally underneath the cheese, ensuring that they won't burn. When ordering meat toppings this also helps to add flavor to the crust, as the meat juices soak into the dough as the pizza bakes. Finally, the slightly spicy deep, tomato pizza sauce is drizzled over the cheese. When I say spicy, it's not super hot spicy, it's a pleasant tang that helps balance the richness of the cheese and crust. Buddy's Restaurant and Pizzeria first start serving their now famous and award winning pizza in 1946. They've received recognition from Food Network and Food And Wine Magazine, among many other publications. Even Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco has a Detroit style pizza option on the menu, which is quite close to the Buddy's original. Buddy's Restaurant and Pizzeria now has nine locations in the Detroit area. If you don't plan on being in the area anytime soon they will ship pizzas within the US, according to the website.

Honestly I don't know why they call it pizza. It's more like cheese bead with a little sauce on top. They're signature pizza comes in square but honestly jets pizza is better at it. Don't let me forget to mention that Buddy's Pizza gives you the shits for a couple days..I realize that's disgusting but...

A group of us Californians were traveling through the Midwest and had been eating for two days in hotel restaurants and corporate chains, and we needed a break! After checking in to the Dearborn Inn we Yelped up Buddy's and it seemed to fit the bill. A casual, local pizza joint that was easy to find and with plenty of free parking off the back alley. The hostesses lacked personality or any charm, and one young lady calmly led us to our table without a word and a quick fake smile. But our waiter made up for it with a friendly vibe and efficient pace. He explained they now serve locally brewed beer, which must be an exciting new development for Detroit although West Coast cities have been doing that for 15 years. We had a few of the local blonde ales and they were serviceable, if not fantastic. They were served in the bottle, but without a chilled pint glass to pour them in. When in Rome, as the saying goes, so we just smiled and drank the beer out of the bottle with the locals. The mozzarella sticks tasted a bit flat, but the pizzas we all had were absolutely delicious. I'd return for the pizza any day! The décor has lots of Dearborn/Detroit photos and references, which were fun to look at. The dining room is typical sports bar/pizzeria and is busy and with plenty of TV's tuned to local sports, but overall it was not deafeningly loud. The local residents are kind of an earthy bunch prone to modest living, but they are polite and reasonably friendly when approached. Buddy's seemed like a popular local hangout, and their pizza truly is fantastic.

I am sincerely surprised I haven't reviewed Buddy's yet! I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. High school dinners out with friends (I was going to say buddies--HEYO), college nights with beers and a pies, and more. So yes, I have a very sentimental attachment to this place. Luckily the pizza is delicious so it keeps me coming back regardless of nostalgia. First off the joint is really spacious and clean and I LOVE that patio. A nice summer night out there? Perfect. The staff has always been really friendly here and I love the little batch of dum dum suckers as you walk out. If you're looking for me you'll probably find me digging through there looking for a cream soda! They have a pretty extensive menu including sandwiches, tasty salads, appetizers, and then their awesome pizza. They've got basic toppings (pepperoni, sausage, plain cheese, etc) so you can make your own. They also have pre-designed pies that vary from traditional (margarita, veggie, BBQ chicken) but they've also rolled out some new varieties in honor of local landmarks that have more inventive toppings (like the Great Lakes collection which boasts toppings like pine nuts, spinach and artichokes, and more). They also have low fat and gluten free options to boot! Love the crust and the crunchy corners! I usually pass on crusts but I'll eat these all up they're so good. Also cool? You can find coupons, nutritional info, and more on their website! Save a few bucks or a few calories if you plan ahead! Yes, Buddy's and I have a past but we also have a very passionate present and an incredibly solid future!

It's very flavor full pizza. Great service. The only problem is the bathrooms could be a little cleaner. When your in town, make sure you go to Buddy's!

I never thought I would want my pizza fluffy. But that's exactly what I got at Buddy's, and daaaamn it was full of greasy goodness. Is it a gut bomb? Yes. Did I enjoy it nonetheless? Oh yes. Buddy's is low-key pizzeria that reminds me of a nicely put together Pizza Hut. I mean that in a good way. It has an ease about it - limited frills with tons of comfy booths, no-nonsense servers and plenty of space. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the much-heard-about patio, but the inside was cool and full of free smells, so that suited me just fine. As for the meal... My dining partner and I split a house salad and scarfed down said veggies with our choice of dressing. Simple, fresh and the perfect base for the pizza bomb to come. And then it arrived...a magnificent portion of cornered, cheesy goodness. I chose the margarita which would have put any (sad, thin) Italian pizza to shaaaaaame. With its overflowing amount of grease and cheese corralled by the crispy, buttery crust, this 'za would feed sate multiple peeps. Extra props for creative pizza options and low fat and gluten free options for those who are seeking such offerings. I was quite sad that I had to toss my leftovers as my hotel didn't have a mini fridge and I didn't feel like smelling Buddy's Pizza 6 hours after I came back to my hotel. I may have shed a little greasy, cheesy tear.

Best quality ingredients that makes this pizza taste great. The best way to really appreciate how exceptionally good this pizza is, to to compare it to any other. What a treasure in our backyard.

Calling this pizza is stretching the definition of what pizza is. They don't use dough in as in a normal pizza. Instead it is like a pre-made bread which they then apply the toppings to and then bake. The bread is light and good on it's own, but it is not like pizza. Plus it is an inch or so thick, far and away the main ingredient of the pizza. Onto this they put a normal amount of cheese, and it is good cheese. But I had mushrooms and peperoni for toppings. There was hardly any of either, and the peperoni had virtually no flavor. I guess that's how they make their money. What really killed it though, was that they put very little sauce on it. So what they served me was four slices of cheese bread with a dribble of tomato sauce. Making this even worse was that they charged $14 for this! I've seen this place show up on an internet listing of like the fifty best pizza places in the country. I've only been to two other places on those lists (one in Ann Arbor and one in Atlanta, both of which have incredibly good pizza), but this place being on that kind of list is laughable. Toledo alone has at least five places with decidedly better pizza than this is. In case you hadn't guessed, I won't be back.

Dearborn has very few good places that aren't mediterranean, and even less that offer quality outdoor seating. As far as pizza goes, Buddy's is at the top of the list. They know exactly how to put a pie together. Quality ingredients, perfectly cooked, and never too greasy. Buddy's isn't cool, hipster, trendy, or an undiscovered gem. After all the years they've been open, they're consistently good, and haven't managed to screw it up! Well done.

I want to love this place. I really do. But, it's just not happening. The pizza is the best thing this place has going for it. If you venture away from that, be prepared to be disappointed. Our first visit was about a month ago. I ordered a Robby burger, my boyfriend ordered a small pizza. I ordered a salad with my burger and when it came out, it had DIRT on it. When our waiter came back around, I asked him to take it off of our bill and showed him the (multiple) pieces that were obviously unwashed/had dirt on them and he offered me another, which I declined for obvious reasons. I ordered a side of fruit instead of fries, which ended up being 10 grapes and 3-4 pieces of cantaloupe. Again, disappointed. My burger was great though...I love that the Robby sauce is essentially thousand island, it was cooked perfectly, and it was the only part of my meal I actually was pleased with. The service was good, we sat on the patio, and it took awhile, but our waiter was on point. I decided to give this place another shot last week with my best friend. I again ordered a Robby burger because like I said, it was pretty good the first time around. We had a terribly slow waitress this time around, but I guess that's the nature of the beast, right? Anyways, I ordered fries this time around and well, I should have just stuck with the fruit. Our food took a long time to come out (I mean 20+ minutes...) and when it did, our burgers were so overdone that it took me forever to chew one bite and my fries were underdone; to the point where they weren't crispy at all...just raw and hardly cooked. Ugh, disappointment. So, stick with the pizza.

I'm not sure what all the hype is about, we were not impressed with Buddy's. We had a deluxe pizza and it wasn't any kind of special. The sauce was above the cheese but that made no difference. I do wish we would have had more sauce. We also got the zucchini chips and were completely disappointed. I don't think they dried them off at all, the breading was pretty much completely separated from the veggies. It actually tasted like chicken so I only tried one and gave up. The only saving grace to this meal was the breadsticks. Even the sauce for them left me dissatisfied. Sadly I just cannot agree with the hype and will not be trying buddy's again.

Uh, of course I love Buddy's. I'm a human Detroiter. Seriously, what can I say that hasn't been said? You can get any pizza vegan by ordering it with Daiya instead of cow cheese. That's pretty nice. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, even if you have a large party. The beer selection is good and reasonably priced. I've had probably every non-meat thing on the menu, and it's all been awesome. I always try to bring the uninitiated to Buddy's and the amazing Detroit-style pizza converts everyone into fans.

I'm kinda bummed I didn't try Buddy's sooner. I'm a "light sauce" pizza kinda gal and always felt their style of pizza would turn me off. Wrong. Even though the sauce is on top of the pizza, it's just perfect! There's not much about Buddy's I can report that hasn't already been said... The square pizza is full of flavor, their pillowy breadsticks are delicious and I'm in love with their crispy mac and cheese. The service has been good in my several visits. I'm quickly becoming a regular at this place. (Keep an eye out in your 2012 Entertainment books because there are some great Buddy's coupons in there!)

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed after eating a pizza. First off it is ridiculously overpriced. I had to pay $14 for eight very small slices with only one topping on them. That one topping was pepperoni and there were no more than two pepperonis on each slice, and the pepperoni was those little pepperonis that couldn't be more than half an inch in diameter. Some slices had one and a half pepperoni's because they would cut through the pepperoni when they cut the pizza. The worst part about it was the amount of sauce that they put on. They put two very thin lines of sauce (that didn't taste very good) on top of the pizza, and it wasn't nearly enough. I'm having a hard time understanding how this place is so popular, I guess it has its niche.

We went to Buddy's after going to the Henry Ford Museum. There was a 30 minute wait for a table so we sat at the bar instead. I ordered the 4 square combination pizza. Their crust is thicker like a pan pizza crust. The sauce was just okay and the toppings were good. To improve, they need to make a more flavorful sauce, add more sauce, and more toppings. A 4 square pizza is good for 1 healthy appetite (like mine!) or 2 smaller appetites. I would definitely consider returning during my next visit to Dearborn. (Overall grade: B+)

I'm a Detroit area native so being close to 40 and never having Buddy's pizza is almost unheard of in my area. Went to Buddy's with my family tonight. Unimpressed to say the least. The Pizza was not good at all. The antipasto salad was iceberg lettuce with a few bits of cheese and a few bits of salami. That's it! The only thing decent was the appetizer, we got the veggie combo I think it was called. I will not eat there again!

Fast and friendly service. Waitress observant of needs. Food quality excellent caesar salad and Meat Lovers Pizza with three refillable soft drinks all for $34. I would return again. Restaurant was about 90% full at 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon.

The food was great and my wait was not that long. Our server was very nice and drinks were always full. My only problem was where we sat. The drink station was right in front of me. It was like a meeting station for servers that had no work. A server with the first letter of the name t was on his cell phone half my meal and when he was not he was staring at me. It was very annoying. I hate being watched. Dude was lazy

Buddy's is easily in the top 5 for best pizza that I've had, and definitely the best pizza in Michigan. It's kind of like pizza hut pan pizza, but more awesome. The crust is crunchy and delicious, the cheese is chewy, and the sauce is sometimes the star. It's more tomato-y than most pizza sauces, which tastes more handmade. The Buddy bread is also delicious, basically just strips of baked pizza dough with garlic and parmesan. They come with sauce and ranch, which is a beautiful combination. It can get really busy at times and obviously it's a pizza place so loud kids are everywhere. But the pizza is worth it. Grab a dum dum on the way out as well.

Growing up down the street, I was spoiled with Buddy's. My friends and I hung out here consistently in high school and I took the food for granted. After moving away, I've eaten lots of other pizza, but Buddy's is still the best I've ever had (though Fellini's in Atlanta is very close!). It's unlike "normal" pizza because it has a thick crust and it's square...but it's not quite Chicago-style either. It's Detroit-Style: Thick crispy crust and the toppings are baked underneath the cheese with the sauce is on top. I like the Greek, but I also just like plain cheese. Look out for the freebies you can add like basil and the Buddy Spice Blend. Other must-order items include Buddy's Bread (with ranch) and broccoli soup. I used love Olga's for the broccoli soup, but decidedly never need to go there again, because Buddy's is better! Good shout, Mark S. with the free Dum-Dums on the way out!

Liked it. Neat location, outdoor seating, good salad, good pizza, good service. Was easy to get a tasty personal pizza with the exact toppings I wanted (pepperoni, olive, sausage, yellow pepper). Will go back next time I'm in town. The hot fudge on the sundae seems like a mix of hot fudge and caramel, which I liked.

Came here for an informal Family Christmas party and had an awesome experience fully helped along by our server Korey. She was one of the best ever. The food, as always, was fabulous and it was just great execution by the entire Buddy's staff. I recommend this legend for a quiet date or a family party any day of the week!

Buddy's is good. Great? No. The pizza is "Detroit Style", whatever that is, deep dish, square, I guess, and is decent. I find it is often under-sauced and over-hyped. A good place to take the family or for a pizza-outing where everyone can find something to make them happy. Is it the best pizza in Detroit. No. Is it worth a stop from time to time? Sure.

    (3)
  • Emily D.

I can appreciate the unique style of this pizza with the thick bread-like dough and the cheese on the bottom thought process, but it didn't knock my socks off like all of the Detroiters touted. Service was friendly and a bit delayed because of the Tigers game distracting everyone, Caesar salad was tasty. Probably won't be back, but only because of personal preference.

  • Rikki W.

Pizza is good. Décor is mediocre, service is mediocre. Cleanliness definitely needs some work here. The lamps are dirty and the flatware and dishes were not cleaned properly when I went. Also there is a "parking trap" outside...cops regularly ticket people who park in what is supposed to be "no parking" but the sign is not really visable. Ended up getting a parking ticket for a sign I didn't even see! Beware!

I like this place because they're consistent. The salad is always fresh. The pizza is always delicious. When my pizza was burnt once, they told me so and made me a second one right away. I can forgive a goof up when the effort is made to admit it and correct it. I like them and I always go back. The margherita pizza is FANTASTIC.

  • Angela C.

First of all the service was excellent. Shannon was thoughtful and attentive. They make their own sauces and salad dressings in house. The hot sauce for the wings was just right paired with the blue cheese dressing (wish they would bottle and sell it). The antipasti salad was wonderful with the house dressing. The pizza was good. We were not use to the sauce on top and the pepperoni under the cheese but we liked it. If we are ever back in town we will definitely come back!

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but yuk. I can't stand their pizza, my husband loves it so I am occasionally forced to partake and I am always displeased. Their pizza is swimming in grease and so is about everything else on their menu. I wouldn't mind this fat carnival if it was one of the best things I've ever eaten, but no, it's not even close. Let me off of this ride.

Its Buddy's. What can I say. When i first found out that dairy was my stomachs enemy, I figured at that point Good Pies outside of California might be very difficult to obtain, but thanks to places like Buddys and Amicis, im doing just fine. They are obviously welcome to trying a lot of different things to make everyone happy and at home in their establishments, from different types of crusts, and now offering Daiya cheese as an option to people like me. Ive never had a bad Pizza from Buddys, even before when i could tolerate dairy products, always great ingredients and great taste. Its really an institution around here, I just wish there was a Downriver location closer than Dearborn. The last few times i have gone there, I have gotten their new Tuscan Vegan Pizza and its amazing, the lemon wedge is a nice little kick of flavor. Usually I just build my own with whatever i am in the mood for in the moment, but there are plenty of options. Service is usually really good. Sometimes slower than normal, but other than that they are very concerned with you leaving full and happy. Prices are a little high, but its not flavored cardboard, and they always have very helpful coupons on their site.

We were in Detroit for a weekend for hockey and I think I ended up eating their pizza every day. We brought it back to the hotel after the games and it was tasty then, we ate at the restaurant in Dearborn as well and it was great too. We stuck with the pizza but the other dishes folks were eating looked great too. If you are in the Detroit area, get Buddy's pizza.

Buddy's has been voted best Pizza in Detroit over and over again. But who can argue? Buddy's has some of the best Pizza I have ever had. The Pizza just can't be beat. The Delicious squares of Pizza are just the right size to where you can get full with just a couple pieces. Depending on how much you eat. You'll want more though. I would recommend getting more Pizza than you need so you can take some of that goodness home. The crust is cooked to perfection and they give you lots of cheese and toppings. I also like how they have about half the sauce at the top of the pizza. Trust me this is the best Pizza you can get in the area. I enjoyed the Antipasto Salad as well. I would like to say Thank You to all the staff at buddy's as well. We were in a little bit of a hurry when we ate here a few days ago. We told our Waitress and we were in and out in less than 30 Minutes and we didn't rush or anything. We ordered our Food and Drinks at the same time. The Drinks were out in the next 2-3 Minutes, the salad a minute or two later and within 10 Minutes after we sat down the Pizza was at the table. Even though they were busy we were seated immediately. If you find yourself in Downtown Dearborn and want excellent Pizza Buddy's is the place to go.

Im an out of towner, this place looked like a homerun from these reviews. Maybe there is some hometown favoritism going on here, or maybe its a regional thing. I was with a large group, did the all you can eat for $12. What a ripoff. pizzas came out, most of us had 3 slices and that was it for the pizzas. Then it seemed to come as a suprise that we might want more. I swear the waiter rolled his eyes when we all raised our hands. We waited about an hour! I walked in at 11:30, I walked out at 12:45, they were just bringing more pizza as I left, unfortunately I couldnt wait any longer, had to get back to work. Guess thats the trick, take long enough and "all you can eat" turns into, "they have to get back to work eventually". In my world, All you can eat means there is pizza available on the table till I leave. I would say perhaps lunch crowd hit and they just couldnt cook them fast enough. Upon arriving back at work, I learned that the experience I had is not uncommon. In the end, I paid $12 for some boring salad and 3 slices of pizza. That is an insult. I could have gotten a whole 8 square pie for that money and taken home the leftovers. So thats a lesson learned for when I go back... but will I? why? The pizza vaguely reminded me of pizza hut, that thick oily crust, not that its bad, just that its... ordinary. If they invented it, pizza hut mastered it, and I am in no way a proponent of pizza hut... Calling this one of the best pizzas in the country seems laughable, I can get a pizza like this anywhere in the country... Bring out some hand tossed brick oven pizza with natural mozzarella and ample toppings cooked well, thats a 5 star pizza. That was my experience, maybe if I just walked into the place, set my expectations a notch above papa johns, didnt get jerked around on an "all you can eat" joke, Id say it was a decent pizza, 3 stars perhaps. But I had higher hopes for this place from all the hype I heard.

Probably more of a 3-1/2 star rating, but I'll round up. Anyway, stopped in as a result of the coupon on the back of the Henry Ford/Greenfield Plantantion ticket stub. We got a meat-laden D-style pizza which was a decent/solid pizza that I would go back for again. The place was PACKED, but we did not wait long to get a table. They have a lot of seating here and child-friendly booths (our preference with a young toddler, gives him a chance to 'roam' in a self-contained area). Another upside was the high-level noise factor and the decent supply of kids around. We like when we didn't have to worry about our spawn overly annoying anyone in the event he ever feels compelled to start cutting up. Service was friendly enough and we didn't wait long too be served and get refills on our soda. I really can't complain outside of the fact that they should probably think about installing larger toilet paper dispensers. They seemed slammed and my stall was running precariously low.

Very cute restaurant, and super fast service. I would love to give it 5 stars, but I found the pizza to be WAY too greasy! Appetizers were great though. The cheese sticks are awesome!

I think about their pizza all of the time. So good. Their square Greek pizza is amazing. We usually split a small salad (more than enough for two), their famous "Buddy Bread" and and 8-slice square pizza so we have a few pieces to take home. The only downside is that the place gets packed in the evenings and their waiting area is really small. Worth the wait, though!

7/2011 - Was up in Dearborn, and this place is close to the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village OK, I love pizza, and growing up in Chicago has crafted my opinion on this great topic, but I am a pizza snob and I do love different types of pizza too, although my 3 year tour of duty in Dallas was an adventure from a pizza perspective.... I have had square pan pizza before, just not at too many places. Buddy's serves the pizza from a square pan which has 4 square pieces inside. You can get them with normal/traditional ingredients. I never had Detroit Pizza before, but it was quite good. The difference is that the tomato based pizza sauce is really, very very sweet! Not sure what the sugar content was, but it was really sweet - and quite good. If I am back in Motown, I am definitely coming back here. Oh, they have other items on the menu here too, those look good from afar too, but we had to have the sweet square pizza of Detroit, which is pretty interesting considering that just down the street, a guy named Henry Ford made the 1st automobile assembly line using Round tires......

My family and I have been going to Buddy's ever since I can remember. Everything on their menu is excellent and we are NEVER disappointed. Dearborn is famous thanks to Buddy's and the delectable mouth-watering pizza they perfect! Their crust is the best part of the pizza and is cooked with precision every time; no piece is better than another. I am a big fan of the Marghertia pizza (asiago cheese, diced tomatoes, oregano, and basil). If you aren't in the mood for pizza, they offer a variety of salads, sandwiches, Italian staples (like spaghetti and lasagna), and hamburgers. Buddy's also has the world's greatest ranch dressing. Random I know, but it is to die for and tastes good with almost anything there! Numerous Detroit collectables and sports memorabilia adorn the walls, which provide guests something to converse about before their meals arrive. Buddy's is the perfect place for parties or large groups of people since a side room is available. Ask any local from Dearborn and they will automatically tell you Buddy's is the place to go for a meal. If you plan on going for dinner, you should arrive early because the restaurant fills up extremely fast. Enjoy!!

Detroit Style Pizza I have loved it since going in grade school with my best friends family to the original Buddy's in Detroit. This one's ambiance feels like a chain which scares me a bit but the pizza! Oh the Pizza HOT, saucy, cheesy puffy squares of heaven!

Service and food is ok. The worst thing is how loud it can be inside especially if more than 1/4 - 1/3 full with people. Loud music playing over speakers and people all shouting at each other to be heard a few feet across a table. Loud dish banging in the kitchen area. Definitely not a pleasant place to go if you want to have a peaceful conversation with someone. A little attention to the acoustics to quiet the room down could make it much much nicer dining experience.

This is your typical family style sports bar. Nothing really unique or special. Our waitress was especially friendly and attentive, but other than that the food was average. My salad was ok. However, my chicken Parmesan was cooked as if it was microwaved. It was super hot when I got it and the spaghetti was crispy along the edges and very dry. The chicken portion was tasty. It could have used quite a bit more sauce. The beer was good, but then again, you can't do too much wrong with that. All in all, enough to eat. If I were to go again I'd stick to pizza.

The Best Pizza in Metro Detroit...... Buddy's Pizza has been making awesome pizza pies in and around Detroit now for over 61 delicious years. I was in town visiting with family and we decided to visit for dinner. The Dearborn storeis located in the downtown business area off of Michigan Ave. It was festivley decorated with all the holiday trimmings to get everyone in the spirit. It was a Monday night and our group of eight was promptly seated. The youngsters/monsters were given clean booster seats and of course crayons and paper to draw with. You know how restless kids can get. Our server was fantastic. She took our drink orders and came back for the appetizers. We decided to go with Antipasto Salad and a couple of orders of Buddy's Bread to start. The Buddy's Bread is more like a loaf and baked hot & fresh and comes with both Ranch and Tomatoe dipping sauces. The antipasto salad comes out in a large round metal bowl and is the standard fare except the cheese and meat is in small square pieces. For the main course, of course, we went with a Hawaiian (Ham & Pinapple) and the Detroit (Pepperoni and Asaigo) pizza. You might not find the Detroit pizza on the menu since they just recently updated their menu inserts so be sure to ask for it. Both pizza are square deep dish and cooked perfectly. The prices were about average for a night out. The kids enjoyed a free dumdum lolipop on the way out. Ok I did too! If you are in the area and craving great pizza, terrific service and prices then definitely check out Buddy's!

i'm more of a fan of the round pizza but if someone mentions they want to go to Buddy's i'm game. the pizza is always good....do i think it's the best in Detroit?? No the service is great, atmosphere is fun, it's a fabulous place for groups. I don't feel like they put enough pepperonis on a pepperoni pizza:(

We ordered the Supreme and the Detroiter. The Supreme was loaded with toppings. The Detroiter was very good- but not enough sauce on some parts of the pizza - at times it felt like I was just eating a bread stick. I guess that is okay because the pizza crust has a good taste to it. Both pizzas were very good, however. Very family friendly restaraunt. Not too many parking spaces, so I might go to the Livonia location next time. Had to pay for parking and they don't validate. The waitress honored two $4 off coupons we had from the Henry Ford Village. That was a plus. Great customer service.

This Super specialty "Detroit Style Pizza" made a solid delivery being served in square slices. Wasn't greasy at all and the crust was cooked perfect (not razor thin and not overly soft). I would try some other pasta than the underperforming spaghetti pasta dish but the greek salad was a fabulous pairing with the pizza. I did a take out order so didn't get to see the inside of the restaurant but outside on an August Friday night, there was music playing outside and a nice sized crowd of people just enjoying the Dearborn evening. It would have been nice to join in on the festivities and eat some Buddy's pizza but family obligations had me running back home.

Good to great pizza. Nice, fun, casual place to have lunch or a birthday party or going away lunch. If you have 10 or more people, the "all you can eat" large party deal is the way to go...one flat price per person and they will bring out different pizzas as well as salads, etc. I personally like the Detroiter, the Hawaiian, and the Coney pizzas. I've had their sandwiches before...definitely not their strong suit but still OK. The pizza is much better. Staff has always been friendly. Be careful, if there are a couple large parties in the restaurant the kitchen will get backlogged and it will take a long time to get your pizzas. Best thing to do is get your pizza orders in early...better to have them sitting on the table getting cold than have a bunch of hungry, antsy people sitting at an empty table wondering where the heck the pizzas are. Not much else to say...it is Buddy's. To people who live in Detroit, unless you're going to the original Buddy's location the other locations are pretty much chains and expectations should be adjusted accordingly.

When I used to travel to Dearborn for work from Dallas, i used to love sitting in the outdoors area. Being born and raised in Detroit and then having to move, i can certainly tell you all how lucky you are to have pizza like this. Detroit style rules. I have to give a special call out to the Antipasto Salad. I have lived in CA, MN, FL, CO and TX and nowhere can you get an excellent lunch meat salad with this dressing. Nowhere I tells ya. Detroiters - enjoy what you have!

The pizza here is great, i was recommended Buddy's by some guy in the Biergarten one night.. he said "hey mayne, u tried NY pizza, you tried chicago pizza but that aint nothing compared to Detroit pizza" and i guess he was right, the pizza's awesome, the sides are great. I ordered a beer, waitress 10 min later noticed that it wasn't filled to the top so she gave another pint on the house..! I didn't even have to say anything.. So that makes the service top too! If you Dearborn then this place is a must for pizza fans..

Damn good pizza. I think the square pieces made it easy to eat and I liked that there wasn't an ass ton of tomato sauce on my pizza. The grease definitely made my day.

You really can't go wrong with Buddys Pizza..although i prefer the original location on Conant in the D, this location is ok. The margaritas were the best for 6.25..a Saturday special. Had a 8-square pizza with my fav..pep..it sau..& salami. Its a detroit tradition so lets support them.

It's been a great while; but if you are in Detroit; a pizza pit stop should be made here & if you wanna do it right; start with the Buddy Bread!! The Pizza is made from scratch daily; Wisconsin cheese; from what I could recall it's more of a Chicago style pizza; squared.. The sauce is light (in taste); loaded with flavour.. Ask for extra napkins; this one is a chin dripper!

We stopped in again and had another great dinner. I love Detroit style pizza and Buddies may be the source of my growing addiction. This time we bought a bottle of their wonderful vinaigrette salad dressing to take home with us. We had another top-notch server, Kim. I had to give up the coveted 5th star since Buddies not only has consistently good food at very reasonable prices, but they also have very good servers to boot. This is the complete package.

Went back here this past Sunday after a massive road trip to Birch Run and X-Mas utopia land. The chicken tortilla soup here was AWESOME! They should bottle and sell it by the truck load. I'm from Chicago but I've got a huge secret, I HATE DEEP DISH! The pizza here is more 'pan style' the crust is really something special and they have an impressive amount of toppings to choose from. You should definitely pay a visit and tip well (did I mention my Shorty works here, lol)

  • Buddy's Pizza is a very popular restaurant chain in the Detroit area, and it is known for it's award-winning Detroit-style square pizza. I've been to a couple of the locations, but the Dearborn location has always been my favorite. The popularity of the restuarant is quite clear because there is always a wait around dinner time. I suggest larger parties call ahead to make a reservation. Of course, the square pizza is great, and it is different from pizza you might pick up from take-away pizzerias like Little Caesars, Pizza Hut and Hungry Howie's. However, the restuarant does offer carry-out with a separate entrance and parking for carry-out. The other food on the menu is tasty and always great. I highly recommend the anitpasto salad, chicken fingers, minestrone soup and the buddy bread. It's a casual dining experience.... great for a casual date, a group of friends or a family. During the summer, the small outdoor seating area is open.

Best pizza in all of metro Detroit, hands down. My family has been coming here ever since I was born. My brother moved to NYC and every time he comes home he insists on going here. He claims he hasn't found anything in NYC that compares to Buddys...just sayin'. We always get the antipasto salad with extra brick cheese. Stick with their house dressing as it is phenomenal. Their garlic bread rolls are also pretty good. Great place for birthdays and for groups. Money saving advice: When you walk in make sure to ask for the free buddy card...it saves you like 4 bucks off each meal. Great deal.

Buddy's is a small chain with just half a dozen locations in Detroit and Detroit Metro. The one in Dearborn has a nice atmosphere. The outside is bright and eye-catching, and there's a shady patio for outdoor seating, though most diners were seeking the air conditioning inside on the hot summer day I visited for lunch. Inside, murals of the Detroit Tigers and other sports teams are painted on the walls, and sports are playing on a few TVs throughout. Buddy's has a nice bar with stools and a decent selection of beers and wines. The specialty of the house is pizza, but they also offer burgers, pasta, and wings. The lunch special is quite reasonable, and is served quickly enough to accommodate someone with just 30 minutes for her lunch break. You get a half order of one of a few different pasta selections, their "Buddy Bread," and soup or salad. It's really filling for $6.49. The Buddy Bread is puffy and soft, hot from the oven, drizzled with butter and sprinkled with Parmesan. The salad was unremarkable but fresh and crisp and pretty large for a side salad. The half order I had of mostaccioli was pretty generous, about the same size as a full order at other restaurants. Buddy's would be a good choice for a large group. When I visited, there were at least two long tables accommodating parties of eight or more. One table was seating about 12 people who appeared to be celebrating a birthday.

Fabulous pizza, and a great variety of unusual toppings. Their Buddy Bread is insane! You won't be able to stop eating it. Believe it or not, I almost always order the mac and cheese--used to be too much to eat and I ended up taking it home--now they have 1/2 portion, which I still take home. Incredible value--this and the other pastas come with salad and bread, too. Freshly made salad dressings, too--the creamy garlic is my personal favorite. Busy, busy, busy, but they move things along so you won't have to wait too long. Service is professional--most of the wait staff have been there as long as I can remember, so please remember to tip your wait staff properly. Good beer and drink specials all week long. Hubby loves the antipasto and getting his pasta with baked cheese on top. They actually serve your pasta in crocks which have been oven-baked--yummy! I do miss the great onion rings they used to have here, too, but there are other appetizer choices. For us veggies, they recently added veggie burgers to their menu; not too bad, so this is yet another option. Take your appetite and if you go home hungry, shame on you!

Best pizza place I've tried in the area. We got the Super 8-square pizza, and it was AWESOME. The ingredients were fresh and crisp, the sauce was tangy, the cheese was excellent, and it wasn't too greasy. It was a little pricey ($20), but it was worth it to get bell peppers and mushrooms that were NOT plopped out of a can, and cheese that WAS freshly grated and not frozen/processed! The crust was also excellent: soft on the inside and with a good crunch around the bottom and edges. Will definitely go back!!

For years, we've been devotees of Buddy's takeout. Their pizzas were wonderful. That has changed. We ordered two pizzas last night, both with pepperoni and green bell peppers, and one with black olives. They put on broccoli in place of black olives, and we had to search high and low to find any evidence of pepperoni or peppers on either one. This place has gone downhill fast.

I really like the pizza here and sometimes just have to go get a 4 square Sicilian deep dish for lunch with friends from work. It ain't Chicago style, it's just THICK. The Sicilian comes topped with cheese, pepperoni, green peppers, black olives, salami, diced tomato and a very fresh tasting crushed tomato/basil sauce. I used to try and eat healthier here and often ordered the Honey Dijon (grilled) Chicken sandwich. It was good, with a very tender full chicken breast, but once I had the Sicilian it's been pretty much all I eat there. Their breadsticks are deliciously soft and buttery as well. Service is usually prompt and polite and they have plenty of seating for large parties. Outdoor dining is also an option with a beautiful view of one of the WORST maintained roads in the country, Michigan Avenue Dearborn. It's fun to watch random cars drive into and out of the gigantic potholes leaving bits and pieces of metal from their oft-abused undercarriages. But I could get hit in the forehead with a stray hubcap and still wouldn't be distracted from my pizza.
