Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I come from Nevada where these are plentiful and was feeling homesick, so I stopped here. I am happy that I got my fix. Food was consistent and service was ok (it's fast food, whatever). Minus one star because the fries felt microwaved and the cashier could have at least tried to pretend she likes her job.

Every time I'm in Michigan or the west coast, I have to hit up Del Taco! It's like Taco Bell but...only better. The food is better quality & they have much more variety. If you don't want tacos & burritos, you can always get a burger & fries. I really like their fish tacos. It comes in a soft corn tortilla filled with a freshly fried fish topped with shredded cabbage. I'm also a fan of their steak & chicken tacos al carbon. The sauce that they put in those tacos have quite the kick in the spicy department but, it's seriously a delicious taco. Their regular hard tacos aren't anything special but they are a step up from Taco Bell tacos. I really like come here for their speciality tacos & burritos.

Some of Del taco's stuff is not so great, but the stuff they do well, they nail. I am not a fan of their burritos or regular tacos, but I love their chicken soft tacos. If I'm trying to make a lower carb choice I will get three of them sans tortillas on a plate. SO GOOD. The first time they were like DUDEWUT, and then from then on it wasn't a big deal. Also, the caramel cheesecake bites, and the churros are awesome. Those are clearly days I get my tacos with tortillas. O_O The spicy shrimp tacos, when they have them, are SO good. I wish they were on the menu permanently, but it's probably good they aren't. Oh, and the carnitas ones, too. As an aside, I appreciate their being open even on holidays. I hope those working on them don't mind being there, of course, but they've helped me out on more than one night where I've come home very, very late from working some crazy emergency hours at some hospital a drive away AND on a holiday. (Contrary to popular belief, not all of us late-night people have just been out partying ;))

This place is waaaay better than Taco Bell. If you want fast food style Mexican food this is your choice. Best Items: Fish Tacos, 99-cent Bean and Cheese burritos (get the green sauce), Chicken soft tacos are delish, Tacos Al Carbon are decently authentic for a quick drivethru, 8-Layer Veggie burrito, Grilled Chicken burrito and the legendary Double Del burger round out my faves. The Strawberry Milkshake is also hella good.
(5)Guy D.
The Epic Grilled Chicken Fajita (Or big blob of mush as I like to call it) came at a epic price. 10 bucks with two soft tacos and a medium drink. Del Taco = nausea for me.

I could have written about any of the locations, but the service here is so friendly I decided to write about this one. It's like they are genuinely happy to see you. Love the fish tacos, and the fries are always piping hot and fresh. Wish they had the fried jalapeño slices more often, and this is one of the only fast food places where you can occasionally get pork. The lot is always clean and swept. I've never been inside, but the pictures online look really nice. Service is fast, but they still take the time to fry things fresh and the food is assembled nicely. A much better and freshers option than Taco Bell. In fact, they blow Taco Bell away.
(4)Debbie M.
Love the food but there is an annoying employee who works there later at night... Throwing puns and wisecracks.
(4)Eric K.
Horrible. Told me it was $9 at the drive thru speaker. I got to the window and it was $12 all of a sudden. I ordered/paid for fries and got no fries. Not my first bad experience here but my last as I will never go back.
(1)Delilah M.
Ben Cheshire is an amazing owner and does a wonderful job with the catering. We have had Taco Day in the office for over two years, and I have the pleasure of speaking with Ben about every two months. He brings all of our food in, sets it up and then leaves us to enjoy TACO DAY. If you are hosting a graduation, work party or perhaps considering a *cough* fourth meal at your wedding receptions, I recommed Del Taco a thousand times over.
(5)Hymae W.
When i was younger, dumber, and always drunker i lived down the street from here. I cant tell you how many time I tried to walk through the drive though. I even remember drinking until the Del Taco opened at 6am and trying to order everything on the menu. Any place that could put up with me during this period of time is amazing.
(5)Mitch S.
Gave me food posioning.Got a macho burrito I have been puking for the past 12 hours.
(1)Mike T.
Best fast food Mexican. Kills taco Bell by a mile. I remember them from California and this place never disappoints. Fresh fresh fresh and amazing. What else is there? A plus plus!! Try their Turkey taco and spicy chicken burritos. Even their burgers are good. Add their crinkled fries! Wow!
(5)Doug B.
Crinkle cut fries are extra tasty option. I always leave stuffed. Wide range of menu items. Blue collar lunch crowd. 80's music overhead. Breakfast 24 hours a day. New item - Bacon Ranch Grilled Chicken taco -yummy. They cater, which is a bit unusual for a fast food place.
(4)Steve T.
Better ingredients than most fast food places, but also a little more expensive. In an odd twist, it is a Mexican restaurant that also offers hamburgers and fries. Tastes pretty good, but also leaves you with the standard post-fast food guilt after a meal there. Other Mexican restaurants in the area, such as Zumba are comparably priced, with truly authentic Mexican food. A good place for a quick lunch or late night snack. Staff are quick and friendly, never had a bad experience going there.
(3)Kris C.
Very sad since I go here all the time. The girl manager Lisa who was working the night shift on Jan 3rd was obvious training and in a complete bad mood. Talking to the employees bad and in front of customers not caring what we were seeing or hearing. I work in the industry and I felt bad not only that I was a customer hearing it, but i wanted to tell her to stop it. It clearly was making the restaurant customers uncomfortable and I needed a breather. The new girl was great but I forgot to order extra onions and the manager was very upset and said we charge extra and I was happy to do it. She didn't look at me but did it for me. I told her it was ok I will pay for it and she made me feel I was so stupid. I'm sorry I forgot and you had a bad day. I can't come here anymore. The only reason why I do is I'm from Cali where it came from... Naugles... I will not be back.
(1)Jennifer H.
If I was to tweet about our first experience at Del Taco, it would be: OMG, where have you been all my life, Del Taco? And why anyone would ever go to Taco Bell when Del Taco is available is unfathomable. #yum Oh, who am I kidding, that IS what I tweeted after our lunch today. And I could just kick myself for waiting TWO DAMN YEARS before getting my butt over here for a meal. The place was clean and bright and they had high chairs! Everything on the menu board looked good, but hubby got his favorite (fish tacos) and I got one of my faves (del carbon tacos) and we also got the fries. I did have a momentary thought of "Why did I order a meal deal with french fries...at a MEXICAN place?" but damn those were good fries--hot, crispy, and salty bites of heaven. The tacos looked and tasted fresh with actual fresh onions and herbs. This is fast food? Whoa. That said, the actual tacos were a bit smaller than we had imagined so we wanted a little more--plus we wanted to try something else off the menu--so we got a combo burrito. That was delicious as well. We will DEFINITELY be going back here to make up for all the lost time. In fact, I'm already drooling just thinking about it.
(5)Erin W.
I first tried Del Taco in California and enjoyed it. A couple of years later, I tried the location in Dearborn and was pretty disgusted. But then they put this location in much closer to home, and I've been very satisfied. I still haven't tried much on the menu, but their bean burritos are good, the chicken burrito was great, and they also have a really good deal called "Del's Deal" where you get to bean and cheese burritos, a taco and a drink for like $2.99. The thing I like about this location, though, is that the staff is really into it and really nice, and the dining area is always very clean. The guy who (I'm guessing) is the franchise owner is often there and you can really tell he takes a lot of pride in his store. Also his license plate is "DL TACO". That's commitment. I don't feel like Del Taco will ever "outdo" Taco Bell, but they do do some things differently, and they do do some things better. They're filling a slightly different niche and it's a nice change of pace.
(4)Erik M.
The only real advantage Del Taco has is that it's open 24 hours. I've been there maybe 4 times and twice my order has been messed up. I'm not whining about not enough sauce, I'm whining about missing burritos and beans where there should be chicken. The burritos are good, and fill you up more than Taco Bell's, but I'm sick of rolling the dice hoping my order is right. Next time it's 3am and i'm hungry, I'll just get some pizza rolls at Meijer and make them myself.
(2)Melissa M.
Worst customer service. Had a coupon for buy one get one free chicken burrito. Placed my order, for up to the drive in window. Gal takes the coupon and hands it back. Expired a few days ago. Are you frickin kidding me? My work takes expired coupons all of the time to make customers happy. This large girl with no personality just made Del Taco lose my business. Not worth it.
(1)Anna S.
The food here is always fresh and I never have an issue with order accuracy - but the service ALWAYS leaves a LOT to be desired. In all honesty - I don't think I've ever been smiled at or told to have a "good day" in the twice per week I go there for pop (and occasional breakfast food) in the mornings. Never. They're just never thrilled to be there.
(3)Chad C.
This place never disappoints! Food is always fresh and tasty. I love hard shell tacos they are always crispy and tasty, unlike Taco Bell where you get chewy broken shell tacos.
(5)Shirley H.
Coming from Cali. I was sooooo ecstatic that I found a DT in Michigan. I think this may be only one in Michigan, but regardless I thank the high heavens for it! This used to be a favorite spot for my girl friends and I after a night of drinking in Cali and Michigan. And will occasionally order a chicken soft taco if and when I'm out here during the day time. I'm also a big fan of the chili cheese fries, which I'm not sure if I had since being out here. My friend and I spilt a churro last week and was slightly disappointed with it because it seemed like it had been sitting out for awhile and there was barely any sugar covering the churro.
(4)Michael B.
Four stars as far as fast food goes. Very clean. Very friendly and fast service. The turkey tacos are a hit. Plus, who doesn't want crinkle fries with their Mexican food? Not this kid, mmmmmm fries.
(4)Joe B.
I'm sorry but Del Taco is the jam....the fish tacos are killer. You were right Pauly!! And while the fish may not be the highest quality cut, they promote the fact that the Alaskan Pollock they use is sustainable. They do a nice job on these for sure. On top of that their regular tacos are great too. Perhaps a touch smaller than Taco Bell's but for $1.29 on Tuesdays you get three of these bad boys....Thursdays, 3 of their chicken soft tacos for $2.49...that's a deal no matter how you cut it. The drive-thru was clean and quick and the food is super fresh so it doesn't ever taste like someone emptied a bag of cheese or meat into a bin before serving it. I'm digging the Del.
(5)James C.
There's maybe three Del Tacos in Michigan, and this is one of them. I come here to binge on hard tacos cause they're only fifty cents a piece.
(4)Interstate C.
Make no mistake, this is not Baja Fresh or Chipotle. The food is very Americanized and it is catered to budget mind customers. But it is a better alternative to Taco Bell, both in quality and value.
(4)Rebecca B.
Yup, 4 stars is right in line with the meal! About 1000x better than taco bell. They have value meals that come with fries, and burgers so if you go with a friend that hates tacos they have something else they can get. The tacos are about the same price as taco bell, the portions seem bigger and fresher. I like that they have sauces on the tables and the sauces aren't just little packets of hot salt, they are actually seasoning. The burrito I got came with guac which was a nice surprise - at tb that would be an extra $1 or something... I hate when people grade the meal based on help since I go to yelp to figure out where there is tasty meals not off service... That said, our service was great.
(4)Jason M.
I love this place. It is so much nicer than other fast food options. The people are great and the food is fresh. One of the best things about Del Taco is the festive Atmosphere with the Mexican music playing at the appropriate volume. I would highly recommend this as a terrific fast food option. Enjoy Del Taco!!
(4)Liz B.
Great Food - But don't expect that the $1 coupon code you get after completing an online 60-question survey (regarding your previous purchase) will be easy to use - This Clawson store's management does not accept these coupons without first accusing you of "making up" your own code number that you got from the Del Taco corporate website!
(1)Heather J.
Tacos are soul fulfillment for me, an easy way to brighten a boring day and spice up dinner. Del Taco hardly makes the best tacos in town, but they do in a pinch where no one wants to cook, we're in a rush, and it's 11PM so no one else is open. The 24 hour outpost in Clawson will fit the trick for very little cost, and I'll pretend to ignore the damage to my waistline if you will. Del Taco has a pretty broad variety of burritos, soft and hard shell tacos, and variations between. The veggie burrito and the classic deluxe taco pack enough vegetables in to outweigh questionable ground beef, though the quality is head and shoulders above Taco Hell. I haven't once gotten sick or had disgusting fat drippings roll down my hand. The crispy shrimp taco doesn't live up to expectation, being too battered and not nearly enough actual seafood product. Really... the veggie burrito does it for me. So good. Ridiculous. Props to the employees hired here. Even in the dead of night, they are conversant, literate, prompt, and accurate. Orders are confirmed well and they deliver on any variations, like no sour cream or extra veggies, less meat. I appreciate the maturity of the staff and their quest to deliver a good product. It may be fast food, but getting my order correct every time or going out of your way to fix an error makes a difference. I'll wait the extra minute or two to get it right. I wish they checked their pop fountain more frequently because I feel the flavour is off; it's very carbon-heavy, sort of sour, more often than not. They can be heavy with the ice, good for some, but not to my tastes. These are minor details, though, and for fast food, it's definitely not a bad choice.
(4)Stephen H.
Always very clean and brightly decorated, meat quality is by far superior to Taco Bell. Ingredients are always fresh. Fish tacos are good. Carbon tacos are good. Menu is extensive. You find any cheesy gordita crunch wrap crap. You wont find any dorito tacos or double decker nonsense. I can do without the tall obnoxious brunette yelling out: NUMBER 45!!! NUMBER 93!!!! Otherwise, Del Taco is worth the trip. Look for their specials.
(4)Brandy A.
A taco place that's open 24/7? I love this place! I'm only giving it 4 stars though because they keep discontinuing my favorite item, the deep fried Mac N Cheese Bites. They seem to be a seasonal item but the staff never knows when they're going to have them or for how long when they do get them back in their restaurant. I usually get drive-thru since I go in the middle of the night most of the time. The staff is always super friendly, the food is priced decently and it's always hot. Rarely have they gotten an order wrong, which is a rarity anywhere. Good tacos, hearty servings and a decent selection. They also have a kids menu and burgers and fries. I didn't love the burger but the fries were thick and hot. Over all I totally recommend this as a late night stop over Taco Bell. Great place!
(4)Randy P.
Love this place at 4am. I still think they are better than taco bell. Staff is always friendly and the order is always correct. Try the chicken soft tacos to see how different they are from the dry chicken tacos from taco bell
(5)Pauly G.
This Del Taco Rocks! They let you do whatever you want to your nachos. I like no meat, sub the pico tomato salsa that's on the fish tacos. I used to sub fried jalapenos before they discontinued them, sad face. This store is owned by the same guy that owns the one at Universal at 12 & Dequindre. The service is always good and if you haven't stopped in to try a fish taco, chicken taco, cheese quesadilla or a bean burrito you don't know what you are missing. They cook the chicken to order, fry everything as they are ordered, they cook the beans for like 5 hours or something and hand grate all the cheese daily. Del taco is better then TB in every way. Del Taco doesn't feel like a fast food joint to me.

I am totally giving a fast food joint 5 stars. Right now. Whenever my boyfriend and I are feeling ravenous, we like to go and buy a shitload of tacos. We usually get 6+ each, and the bill is always under $10. It's so ridiculously cheap, but GOOD! I mean, REALLY GOOD! This place blows taco bell and a few other Mexican restaurants out of the water! I also suggest trying their fish tacos, hamburgers, tostadas and french fries (I ordered fries with sour cream, jalapenos, black olives and more once, they were fabulous).

Love this place! Milkshake with my taco? Coming right up! Has reduced my visits to Taco Bell by 90+%.

I hear this place is more numerous in other markets - it seems Detroit is a test market because we only have a few of them here. We should have more! This is a place with modest pricing and big taste! Maybe I'm rating this place on a curve in their favor because my poor taste buds have been trained (and victimized) to associate Mexican fast food with Taco Bell. Well - this place has a fresh, new and surprising approach to making Tex-Mex food with a little more soul and attention to detail - thereby not blaspheming Mexican cuisine as badly as chains like Taco Bell do. The Inferno Hot sauce complements anything on their menu! You can eat your heart out for about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost you would shell out at Taco Bell - for food that tastes more authentic/unique for the price. That sir, is something I'm a fan of. You can even order tacos in the Mexican style (with chopped onions and cilantro). I can sense that this is a place that I could get tired of if I overdo it - so I make sure to only visit every once in a while. All in all - if you are in the vicinity of Troy/Clawson/Royal Oak - and are thinking about a "run to the border" - think about getting a Del Taco visa stamped on your culinary passport. It's worth a try :-) Deal Alert: Recently, I had a great experience with the $1 for 3 tacos deal. You can only pick ground beef or beans and hard or soft shells - but at the price - they are very good! Me and 2 friends for 4 sets of these (12 tacos for $4) and we were all full and we each spent just a buck and some change. Amazing.

I love satisfying midnight fast food cravings, and the fact that this place is open 24 hrs just bumps it up in my book. As usual my boyfriend and I roam around after hours in search of good eats. If I am craving fast food it is a hamburger that I want, but my boyfriend always wants tacos! Del Taco makes a great compromise for us because the menu is not limited to tacos and burritos like Taco Bell. The menu has variety like hamburgers, crinkle cut fries, fish tacos and brownies. I like that the menu offers something for everybody at anytime! I actually tried a hamburger from here recently and it was pretty decent. I have also tried the fish taco before and it was different than what I thought it would be. The fish taco is a wrap with one thin piece of fried fish with pico de gallo and shredded cabbage...well actually it looked more like cole slaw. Anyhow when I read fish taco on the menu I was picturing a piece of fried fish with lettuce and tarter sauce! The cabbage and pico degallo through me off guard, but it was refreshing to see those ingredients from a fast food place! The prices are cheap here, and the tacos are not greasy! So better ingredients and cheaper prices than Taco Bell!

Amazing. The best part is, no trans fat! I love how fresh their chicken soft tacos taste! Their crinkly fries are really good too!!

first visit today-had two free chicken tacos and husband had the fish tacos. The chicken tacos are okay-they are made with chicken breast, some sauce that didn't seem very mexican, chopped greens and yellow cheese. I use a combination of the very hot sauce and the mild sauce and that jumped up the flavor. My husband said the fish was very "fresh tasting" and he was pleased. We will probably return because we both like fish tacos. The building is a converted "other" fast food location and given the temperature was 28 degrees outside, a coat was a necessity inside. It is clean and pleasantly decorated. A father with two sons was present and they went back a second time to order so they obviously felt the food was okay too. Two fish tacos cost $3.18 with tax. Not for a big appetite but a small refreshment mid day.

Del Taco... it's the cheapest, yet satisfying, Mexican food east of the Mississippi! Their prices are unbelievable.... it's almost like they're selling it at-cost, with their classic tacos for 49 cents everyday and their new tuesday taco special - 3 tacos for 99 cents! that's madness... but i'm not complaining! However, if you're going to venture out to one of the three Del Taco's in Michigan, you're gonna want to try the CARBONS - now these are as close to authentic Mexican you can get at a fast food joint, but they do a really good job... with shredded beef and some onion, cilantro, lemon.... although their current menu only showcases the steak and chicken. Oh and speaking of chicken, I wouldn't really recommend getting it... something just not right about it... but the rest of their stuff is good. And for you bean lovers, DT's beans are much better tasting than the hard lumps of refried beans that Taco Bell scoops out of cans and onto their tortillas. For a fast food place this place is all in all ALRIGHT :)

I try and stay away from fast food, but will go there on occasion. When I went to Del Taco the first time, I thought "french fries with tacos?!?" but it's a combination that is a successful one. On the rare occasion that I do crave fast food, I will usually end up at Del Taco over other places. Why? For their big fat chicken tacos! So good!

I figured this would just be a Taco Bell clone, but I am a convert. Love the fish taco, which is filled with crispy fish, fresh shredded cabbage, a tasty salsa with fresh cilantro, and a light sauce, and served with a slice of fresh lime. The fish taco was my favorite, but everything I have tried has been very tasty. The decor of the place is pretty dated, but don't let that scare you away. Very unique and fresh tasting for fast food. I recommend trying it out.

definitely much better than taco bell and other fast food mexican places. very cheap and yet really tastes great. the beans are so good and surpasses taco bell's. recommended for families with kids.

I went here for the first time last week. I ordered the fish taco, steak taco and the jalapeno rings. Overall, I was really pleased. The rings were SPICY. The sauce that came with it went in the trash. I couldn't figure out what was in it. The service was average. The tortillas could have been better. For some reason they seemed to be underdone. I was surprised at the freshness of the ingredients. It makes my wish they had more locations.
