As weird (and safe) as I feel in Chelsea, this has been an after-camping spot for me for a couple of years now. When I trudge in on a Sunday morning, smelling like campfire, cigarettes, and lack of shower, all I want is a bunch of coffee, a big breakfast, and some friendly service. Luckily, we are accepted at the Uptown Coney Island, and treated just as well as the non-stinky after church crowd that share the place with us. The menu is big, the staff is mostly young, and the managers are friendly. I don't remember the last time a manager has come over to ask me how things were, but he did at Uptown. You should expect high quality coney food here, which is exactly how it sounds. You can expect that there will also be a lot of others here looking for good prices and regular, comforting food. I expect that all of my trips to Chelsea in the future (which are once a year, tops) will include a stop at Uptown for some coffee, a greasy breakfast, and good service.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The outside looks a little rough but the inside is spectacular! Love the fiesta ware on the walls and the toaster/blender lights. The service was quick and the food was good. My wife and I left full and only spent $20. It's a Coney Island so you know that going in...if you want the ritz go to the ritz. This's quick and got the job done!

DO NOT ORDER CARRY OUT. The past 3 times we have ordered carry out, something has been left out or completely messed up, including tonight when they forgot 2 side salads, dressing for a main course salad, and completely messed up a burger. Our total came out to close to $50, I'm pretty sure we should have gotten what we payed for. However, the staff are very nice and eating inside is a completely different story. The food is also fresh and the atmosphere is very nice, and somewhat different for a coney island.

Good homemade food. One of my favorites. You can get in and out in about 30 minutes with their super fast service. I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant.

Stopped on the way to Detroit for lunch. DH had a cone and a coney special. I had a breakfast sandwich. The coneys were good, not fabulous but good. My breakfast sandwich was very good. I asked for it on grilled sourdough not toasted and there was no problem. They had a great varied menu. Would stop again

Decent food. Have had much better food at different coney's though. The chili cheese fries were not very good at all but the coney dogs were alright. If you're looking for some quick food this is a good spot for you. But of you have a little time on your hands there are much better places around to eat at.

Ordered Uptown burger medium with fries. Dinner time crowd full, couple open booths. Nice interior & decor. Burger was nice and juicy. Fries great.

A 3 star review for a coney from me is probably like most people's 4 star. I know, I have issues. I don't like family diners and coneys. So sue me. That being said, I liked my breakfast here. My eggs were done perfectly over medium, and the bacon was nice and crisp. Their American fries tasted more like butter than potatoes, but I'm not embarrassed to admit I liked that. The decor is kind of dated, but I really didn't care. Our server was nice, quick, and checked up on us a lot. My young dining companion was very happy with his Mickey Mouse pancakes. I would for sure come back for breakfast, and maybe could be persuaded to go for lunch or dinner if I was in the area.

A decent diner but the service is sub-par and the food is just average diner fare. It took over 90 to have a late lunch for three. The burger I had was tasty but it couldn't make up for the lackluster service. Overall, I probably wouldn't go there again and I wouldn't recommend it.

A good option from the fast food competitors in the area. Service is good and attentive. Coney and fries decent. Still not the level of a coney from Andy's in Jackson. Prices were fair. Thanks for letting me check you out.

In my opinion this is probably the best breakfast spot in Chelsea if you like a hearty style breakfast. I am not a fan of the coneys as they serve a runny Detroit style while I prefer the traditional thicker Jackson style. Other than that it's good food and without a doubt an excellent choice for breakfast.

Homemade soups, especially the clam chowder, are fantastic. The gyro salad was delicious. Our waitress was great too! If I travel through Chelsea again I know where to stop for a meal!

Much improved. Items tend to be a little salty but they are fast, friendly and fresh. My husband says the coffee isn't bad. Stay away from the soup if you are trying to watch your salt in-take.

Your rating of their coney depends on what your definition of a coney dog is. To me they serve a runny chili dog so I don't like their coneys because they don't use real coney meat like Andy's Pizza, Jackson Coney Island, Virginia Coney Island, and even the Wolverine serves. If you like chili dogs then you'll like their version of a coney though. Beyond that their breakfasts are quite good and the staff generally gives very good service. Their breakfast menu has quite a variety and although not very healthy they're quite good.

Good food, great service. They do hot tea correctly here! A selection of teas to choose, a cup of hot water, a small pot of hot water, AND really good honey. This is a rare find for a tea need in a world ruled by coffee drinkers!

I stopped in here on my way out of town for a long weekend since my power was out and I was hungry. I got eggs, toast, and hash browns and they came out as requested. In fact, their wheat toast was really good -- the thick kind where you can actually see little flecks of grains. Otherwise, the food was decent. It's hard to do eggs over medium and hash browns very far from average in either direction. The coffee was the really acidic kind that you know while drinking that you will regret in a few hours. So why two stars? Well, they claim to take credit cards, and I was armed only with a credit card. When I came in, they didn't say anything about not accepting them, or that there was a problem with the machine, or anything of that sort. When I went to pay, their credit card machine didn't work, so they asked if I had cash. No, I didn't have cash. So since I was leaving town, the guy wanted my money and I had to go to an ATM of a bank that was not mine and got socked with a $5 fee ($3 to use the ATM and $2 from my own bank). So my $6 breakfast of two eggs and crappy coffee ended up costing $11 plus tip, and when I told the guy (owner? manager?) about the charge, he said, "Maybe I can do something for you" and took off something like 15 cents from my bill. So for a coney, they certainly aren't the worst out there. The waitress was nice if not particularly attentive (likely just overextended since she was the only one there), and the food was OK. But I really didn't appreciate the way they handled their own computer glitch at my expense.

The whites of my eggs 'over easy' were raw. When I commented to the waitress, I was told "that's the way we do them". To make matters worse, I heard staff snickering about this after paying, as I left. Other friends in town have had similarly bad experiences, such as shell in their eggs. Also, for a coney island, their coney dogs are terrible. I wish this place were still an A & W, at least then I could get some chili fries and a root beer float. Upshot: if you need to have breakfast in Chelsea, you're better off at Big Boy. This place is terrible.

By far the worst french toast that I've ever eaten. The bread was stale and was very densely battered with a tasteless egg batter. I could only choke down a half a piece it was so bad. My husband had eggs over easy and they were way over cooked. On the upside, the american fries were pretty good and the waitress was very nice.

It's a Coney. So what, right? I think of Coneys as the Michigan version of a diner. When I was a kid, way back when dinosaurs roamed the section of southern Noo Yawk where I grew up, every diner was owned by a Greek family. When you went to a diner there were two things you knew you could always get that would taste yummy: Breakfast and Greek food. Here in MI, the Coneys are required (probably by some obscure law) to carry the MI Coney hot dog. Uptown Coney Island's menu had a serious Greek influence. But it was 9 am and we were not there for gyros or tube steaks. I had a spinach and feta omelet. It was the best omelet I've had in ages, really light and fluffy. The eggs were full of fresh spinach leaves, and tucked in between the folded omelet was a good cup (at least) of *good* feta cheese. The taste mix of spinach and egg and that briny feta flavor was just what I wanted. It came with a side of home fries ("american fries") which were the perfect mix of crunchy and starchy potatoey goodness, and toast, for which I picked the cinnamon raisin bread. An awesome choice. I added a side of bacon, four thick, perfectly cooked slices. One of my friends got the same raisin bread made as french toast. The serving was HUGE and half got taken home. Another friendgot a standard scrambled eggs/meat/toast, and while the eggs & meat were enjoyed they said the toast (whole wheat) was the favorite part of the meal. Coffee was good and plentiful, with servers regularly topping off the room. Big bowls of creamer tubs were on the table so they didn't have to keep running for them, but only sugar and The Pink Stuff were available. (I keep some Yellow stuff with me at all times just for places like that.) It cost the three of us about $35, with tax and tip, to get full of a tasty breakfast. Well worth every penny. Don't forget to take note of the lamps on the walls between the tables, made from old appliances. Way cool.

Decent service, as expected for a Coney. I asked for a plate of chili cheese fries. They were fantastic. I wish they had used fresher and more cheese, but overall great. We've been there a few times and have not been disappointed. Granted, we have only been there for breakfast. It was also nice to get the coloring paper and box of crayons for the little one to keep her busy so we can actually eat.

I frequent the place for breakfast, good food at a reasonable price. They do take visa, MasterCard and American Express cards so no worrys there. My favorite menu item super breakfast 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and ham, 2 sausage links, freshly made hash browns from fresh potatoes and not frozen or reused baked potatos and 2 pieces of toast for $6.95.
