Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Garlic shrimp was 5* stars. Nachos were great also. Good ambiance.

What a great find thanks to Yelp! I just had an awesome dish of fish tacos and one of the best bloody Mary's I've had. My husband enjoyed the chicken burrito. It wasn't huge but he said it was delicious. I saw too late that they have an adorable patio. Great place! Check it out!!

I'm giving this such a bad review because of the unbelievably insulting and rude service we received. I was absolutely appalled!!!! Our servers name was Brandy and we have never been so insulted when ordering a drink. For starters, my husband ordered a Bud Light and she insulted him by saying it was a horrible beer. Well....come to find out, she said she had some stupid ex-boyfriend that worked for Budweiser, so she found it necessary to insult anyone who ordered their product. I myself am in the service industry, and the first rule in the industry is to not insult anything anyone is ordering, or make any comments! DUH!!! so like I said...I'm in the industry myself, and well....my husband works for BUDWEISER!!!! She made a BIG mistake. She also doesn't know how deep his roots are with Budweiser. I'll leave that at that. I made it sound like I was joking, but I told her to her face "there goes your tip!" After she saw our reaction, she asked if we had ties to Budweiser. I said "yes!!! That pays our bills!!!!" What a complete idiot!!! I also said out loud that that was the 2nd time on our recent trip that we have been insulted by a server for our choice of beverage. Absolutely unbelievable!!! I ordered a vodka/soda with Titos vodka. Well...she took about 20 mins to bring my second drink and acted like they had to go find some Titos. Yeah right...she just forgot and couldn't be honest enough to admit it. Just the icing on the cake as to why I didn't tip her. As far as the food, the food was great! I had no complaints. My husband and I both had burgers, and my relatives had some of the Mexican items and a fish sandwich. Everybody liked the food. As far as Brandy the server is concerned, we also gave her a bumper sticker from our home town to hang up, and I can bet my life savings that it won't be put up. Really sad because that would have meant a lot to us. She needs to learn to put her personal issues aside in the work place and keep her loud & opinionated mouth to herself. She's screwing herself over, and the restaurant itself. I'd fire her in a heartbeat if I owned the place! She's a cancer to the establishment, and doesn't know the first thing about even decent service. It's a shame because this is a pretty neat place. They just need to pay more attention to the details of their service. If we had even decent service, I probably would have given it 4 stars. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because of the food.

Great time here with family. You can drive or boat here. Great atmosphere and good food....cold beer in the frosty glasses.

Thanks YELP for another great dinner. Saw that Hoppies was known for authentic Mexican food so we drove 20 minutes to a Tavern in the woods north of Indian River. As usual the reviews were correct. Nice bar and beer selection. Plenty of tasty mixed drinks on the menu for my wife, and great atmosphere. Place is rustic and all the Big 10 flags were prominently displayed. Also all the Armed Forces. We liked that. Menu has changed slightly since it has been on Yelp. No longer have the stuffed shrimp Jammers. Don't know what else has changed, but the bartender was concerned enough to have me show her what needed updated. We started with Irish Nachos. I was leery of that but the waitress suggested it. Normally these are served on potato skins and l think that Hoppies were also, but they took the time to cut them into bite sizes pieces and season them. That made a difference from others I've had because these were very good. Had the server bring me a bottle of Sriracha and liked them even better. The Mexican menu isn't as authentic as advertised but has very good choices. My wife got a seafood burrito and I got a beef burrito. The salsa is homemade and is delicious. Would go back often if we lived in the area. Just a very nice hidden gem that we would not have found without Yelp. There is no way that this is anything other than a hot spot for locals and that's the type of place I like to find. Thanks YELP

Anyplace that can do Mexican right is worth four stars. They also have a good beer selection and solid burgers. The restaurant feels very crowded at times and the service gets a little backed up because of it I think. Still, a good place to get an affordable dinner.

Yes, it was Friday night and hence, you should have to wait. And we did. For the table, and for the food. Once we got the food, it was excellent, or were we just that hungry? Remember, you are up north with very limited options and you are suppose to be relaxing.

We ate here on New Year's Eve, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The service is always friendly, the food is always great. The Bacon & Bleu cheese burger was amazing, but I have also had their amazing prime rib. Always leave happy.

many many yummy satisfying meals at the lakeside hoppies. Several blurry drunken nights as well, best when Mike Ridley is in the house. Great beers. Always cold. Really nice food. I've never had a disappointing meal here. Really enjoy their mexican food on their menu, especially their cheese enchiladas. The salsa is also homemade and very flavorful. Their green chili sauce is very nice as well the new airport location makes fantastic pizza. Not much mexican on that menu, but go for the meat lovers pizza. It's as good as you will find "up North" Lakeside is PACKED in the summer. I mean PACKED!!

Well worth the trip. A little out of the way but what is GPS for? To find Hoppies! Very good menu, friendly service and convenient hours. Cool display of college flags and great atmosphere. You'll be glad you stopped in, we were.

Yay!! Hoppie's burgers are back! They changed their beef supplier recently and the burgers are better than ever. We were so happy to have such a good meal there again. We'll be back. PS: I still would never go to Hoppie's for a salad, as I've seen others complain about. It's just not their thing. It's never been an issue for us, we just go elsewhere for salads.

Up north joint and great place. TexMex food is really good, Friday fish fry is the best. Getting there by water is a bid of a challenge.

Wow! I was very impressed with Hoppie's Tavern. It's a fun atmosphere (ceiling covered with college flags, log cabin looking) and a great place to eat. I ordered the whitefish dinner. It came with waffle fries and a salad. It was easily the best whitefish I had ever eaten. It tasted great and the breading was very crispy and fresh. The place was packed with people and our waitress, who was very, very busy, seemed to always have refills for us and anything else we needed. The service was impressive. We went to Hoppie's by boat. The only downside is the location. It is a somewhat difficult place to find. Also, there's only room for about 6 boats on their dock. However, you can moor in the shallow water just a few feet out. Price was very reasonable, around $15 for a meal and drink. I definitely recommend Hoppie's!

We made the trek up to Hoppies while on vacation. Wonderful food, exceptional service, and a great local beer selection. Worth the drive from our cabin an hour away.

Tasty olive burger and seafood. Not the greatest burger, but it hit the spot after a long day of travel. Decent beer selection compared to some other places in the area.

This is a great bar with cold draft beer and a 5 star Friday night fish fry. Hippies gets crowded in the summer so go early if you don't want to stand in line. The food and atmosphere make this a place to take up north guests.

A local sports bar, good for a night out. I had ribs and they were Awesome!!! Very well with kids as well. Right by Burt Lake! I would definitely recommend it!

I love love love hoppies! It's in the middle of nowhere, but completely worth the drive. Fish fry Friday's are amazing (and I love the terryaki white fish). They serve the best tex-mex in the area (not that there's much competition). Killer burgers and fries. Prices are cheap, atmosphere is bar-like and food is phenomenal. If you're very daring, you can also get there by boat (they've got a dock out front) but it's at the empty end of Burt Lake, so it can be quite a trip. Great if you're out for a ride and need a destination.

Come by land, air, or sea. Well I'm actually not to sure about the air part, but you can park a boat near here in the summer or drive your snowmobiles here in the winter. They have a good bar and a nice selection of food. I recommend the Chocolate Quesadilla for dessert!
