We stayed at Aaron's Windy Hill recently when there were very few vacancies we could find searching online. The B&B is in a location very close to Lake Michigan and just across the drawbridge from the quaint downtown. However, the house is located on the main highway through town, and the traffic noise is noticeable, especially when the drawbridge is up and the traffic backs up and idles in front of the house. We had a two-room suite on the first floor. One room had a double bed and a twin bed in it, and the other room had a double bed, 3 living room type chairs and a TV/VCR. We also had a small bathroom with a small shower. We were fortunate to have a window unit AC in our room because the weather was unseasonably warm. We noticed some of the upstairs rooms had box fans in the windows. Nancy the owner was very nice and helpful. She has owned and run the B&B for more than 40 years. She worked hard to make a nice breakfast each morning. Her special baked French toast with freshly sliced strawberries was pretty good. The fresh fruit was nice, too. However, there were several breakfast entrees that we did not care for. More options like bagels, scones or even toast would have been appreciated. The house was very pretty. As a historic preservationist, I love houses with architectural details - houses that really show off the original craftsmanship that was used when the house was built. Although it was very clean and had everything we needed, our room did not celebrate its historic character with its dropped ceilings, painted panel walls, miscellaneous contemporary furniture and teddy bear theme. The large wrap-around porch on the house made a very nice place to relax. It would have been nice to have an outside clothesline or rack to dry our beach garments. We thought Nancy was very nice and it seems like she may have many loyal B&B guests. It was much like staying at a favorite aunt's house, only with fairly high rental rates.
